A lot of complaints about “too much dadrock” only to give this album 2.5 stars on average

Noisy with bad vocal performance. I could live without this album

Verg good. There is a reason rappers still make songs about Otis.

Some Ibiza-type club music after a lot of rock and blues. There was some variation in the songs but overall it felt a bit long.

Excellent road trip tune as an opening. Stereotypical rock music with not much experimentation.
Tame guitar solo on second tune with the same rock and roadtrip sound.
Same sound, solo starts off strong but tapers down. General note is that the lyrics are incomprehensible.
Now the guitar shines! With a more ballad-like sound and slower rythm. Smooth track.
More roadtrip vibes with fuzzy lyrics. Not that it matters because they sound great.
Now experimentation starts with a rythmic synth throughout this more 80s track!
First song were lyrics are understandable is about a tv dinner.
Synth rythm with great guitar is back.
Bad girl has great vocals!
Curtis Mayfield
3/5
Little Child Runnin' Wild has an exciting ensemble of instrumentals that feel underused. The strings, trumpet and sax show a lot of promise and are not fully developed (yet?).
Pusherman dials these instrumentals further back but adds a very fun drum line.
Freddie's Dead comes back stronger but as with all tracks on this record it feels like something, like a solo, is missing.
Junkie Chase has amazing instrumentals but is not fully developed as a full song.
Give Me Your Love is a nice enough song that sounds like background music (which it is for a movie?).
The next songs are nothing special until one of the hits on the album "Superfly". This song is lacking something extra as well but is probably the strongest track on this record.
The entire project feels like it was held back by being used for a movie.
3/5
Jeff Buckley
4/5
Mojo Pin is a beautifull crescendo of a song. A perfect album starter.
Grace is an even more powerfull crescendo with screams like Led Zeppelin.
Last Goodbye is quieter song. Almost an album filler.
Lilac Wine is even quieter, but is a very nice ballad-like track.
So Real is a double crescendo with a mid-song guitar sound I wish was expanded on.
Hallelujah is a beautifull cover of the popular song.
Love, You Should Come Over is the strongest track on this record, weaving a beautifull soundscape of a song.
On Corpus Christi Carol Jeff shows excellent control of his falsetto voice on this dreamy lullaby.
In contrast to the previous track, Eternal Life starts off with howling guitars that made me check if the album had already ended and Spotify started playing random stuff. A nice wake-me-up of a rock song.
Dream Brother has oriental inspired guitar sounds that remind me of 60s psych rock (what’s in a name?).
Forget Her is what now feels like a typical Jeff Buckley song. A strong ending to the album.
4/5
Gorillaz
4/5
Re-Hash shows signs of the sonic identity of Gorillaz whereas not fully developed. Lyrics are weak too.
5/4 experiments with time signatures in a very interesting way but is vocally weak as well.
Tomorrow Comes Today is the first strong tune on this record.
New Genius (Brother) is weak.
Clint Eastwood is their biggest hit by far on this album and it combines the Gorillaz sound very nicely with rap. It's easy to see why the Gorillaz-style with decent lyricism becomes a hit.
Man Research has nice instrumentals ruined by the ya-ya-ya.
On Punk they do a punk song very well but infuse it with Gorillaz-elements.
Sound Check (Gravity) is sonically very good but with weak lyrics.
Double Bass has nice bass.
Rock the House again shows the versatility of Gorillaz and how they are comfortable in many styles.
19-2000 is very fun, bubbly (literally) track.
Latin Simone (Que Pasa Contigo) is a good track.
Starshine manages to weave a spacey-soundscape.
Slow Country is good. The instrumentals are as good as any on this album but this track is lyrically stronger.
M1 A1 is a strong end to the album.
Very strong debut album, shows amazing versatility but some filler songs.
4/5
OutKast
4/5
Rought start to the record that gasn’t held up at all.
First decently aged song is Bowtie, with that fun Outkast style.
The Way You Move sounds like a 2000s club banger of a club I’d stay far away from. I wish they developed the hushed rap further.
Love the maximalist beat on The Rooster.
Outkast got on the Rock-Rap train with Bust. I’m not a fan of the genre but this was executed well.
War is an amazing song with amazing lyricism. Best song so far, sadly still relevant.
Church is an okay song. Gospel addition is good.
Tomb of the Boom is very 2000s as well but is not a bad track.
Knowing has a dark, gangster beat with good lyricism.
Flip Flop Rock has very good Andre 3K lyrics that outshine Jay-Z on this track.
Reset is a smooth song with good rap over it. It just is not my style of song.
Last Call has Lil Jon screaming all over the 200s beat. Not the best song.
Second half of the album has aged better.
Love Hater is okay.
Happy Valentines Day lacks rap.
Spread features better rap and is a better song overall.
Interludes are mega cringe.
Prototype sounds like music to a porn movie.
She Live in my Lap is also not the best.
Heya and Roses are so good they give the whole album +1. Literally.
Back to mid songs with Behold a Lady.
Pink & Blue manages to weave a very pleasing soundscape.
Love In War is a decent song as well.
She’s Alive is a slower, mellow song, with a weak falsetto.
Dracula’s Wedding has a fun and funky beat with good rap in a theme.
My Favourite Things speeds up and adds nice drums to the famous song. Very jazzy, amazing song.
Take Off Your Cool is an amazing song. I’m loving the experimentation they are doing.
Vibrate is a very strong song as well.
Albums ends strongly with A Life In The Day Of Benjamin Andre.
Not a bad album, first half has aged poorly. Not Oukasts strongest record but some absolute pelters save it. Second half is definitely stronger.
4/5
Alice In Chains
1/5
Them Bones is a bit droning.
Dam That River has the same problem. Droooning Lyyyriiiics.
Rain When I Die is the worst culpris (so far?), especially the ending.
Down In A Hole combines this horrible sound with slower emo music.
Sickman is the same. I am the sickman sick of this.
On Rooster even the guitar is infected with lethargy.
Angry Chair has a mini guitar solo that is not developed.
Finally it is over.
I understand that they are decent musicians but this is not my thing. No epic guitars make up for this horrible “singing”. Terrible lyricism.
1/5
Van Halen
4/5
Strong opening song in Runnin’ With The Devil. Excellent instrumentals with a nice chorus.
Followed by an absolutely mint solo.
You Really Got Me is just an amazing track.
Ain’t Talking Bout Love is also really strong.
I'm the One is a bit weaker in the vocals. Sounds slightly messy.
Slightly slower song in Jamie's Cryin'. Still quite good.
Atomic Punk still has amazing instrumentals.
Feel Your Love Tonight has the same problem as some of these songs on the second half. Somewhat weaker vocally.
Little Dreamer is slower again and features a very good guitar riff. Good track.
Real pallet cleanser with Ice Cream Man. Unexpectedly fun song!
On Fire is on fire!
4/5
John Lennon
3/5
Not a fan of the vocal performance on Mother.
Hold On is better and has fun instrumentals. Not the best track either.
I Found Out is okay.
Working Class Hero is an excellent track.
Remember is quite fun.
Love is unremarkable.
Well Well Well is ruined by Yoko Ono-esque screaming.
Ending of the album is mid as is the rest.
3/5
Christina Aguilera
3/5
Excellent vocal performance by Christina and it is an easy listen. Not hard to understand why this style was so popular at the time even though it is not my thing.
3/5
Louis Prima
4/5
Amazing and influential album with excellent musicians tearing up their solo’s. Very fun!
A few tracks are duds though, holding this album back at times.
4/5
The Beach Boys
5/5
Influential, experimental and yet angelic.
Absolute gem, 5/5.
Barry Adamson
3/5
Very experimental, at times brilliant and at times hard to listen to.
Touches of jazz, blues, even Stravinsky.
3/5
The Police
2/5
The high is high (Every Breath You Take) and the lows are very low (Mother, Miss Gradenko, Tea In The Sahara).
One huge hit does not carry this album.
2/5
T. Rex
4/5
Experimentak, excellent album. Jazz, blue, rock and even some hits!
Fleetwood Mac
5/5
Dreamy, lovely, excellent music and filled with hits. What more do you want?
The Verve
4/5
Beatles
5/5
One of the albums I give 5 stars before listening to (again).
Black Sabbath
5/5
I never listened to a lot of Black Sabbath, but this was an amazing experience. Listened to it multiple times and enjoyed it a lot. The album also had huge influence on the metal scene.
5/5
The Monkees
3/5
Music is okay, songs are same-y. This album came out in the same year as Sgt. Pepper, so it isn’t very experimental either.
Stevie Wonder
3/5
Not my thing
Redux review: I was too harsh on this album, on relistening it is still not my favourite genre but the musicality is there. Upgrading to 3/5
Radiohead
4/5
Sticking the name "Radiohead" on something increases expectations massively. I am now using the edit mode to give this 4*, which feels like a better score inside the Radiohead discography. This puts it on par with Amnesiac for example, whereas I will reserve the 5* for OK Computer, Kid A and In Rainbows.
The Mothers Of Invention
4/5
The project developed some good songs under Zappa’s guidance. Very strong record that also does not take itself serious.
4/5
Michael Kiwanuka
5/5
Only bangers on this experimental record. Smooth music with choirs, strings, the whole orchestra is here for it!
5/5
The Specials
3/5
A-side is the studio side, so I am reviewing that.
The tracks on this record sound very same-y. Some of them are quite fun, but I feel like this band is a better live experience.
Record feels lacking.
Kate Bush
4/5
A very interesting listening experience that is presented as one single sound with variations. Kate Bush's haunting voice beams over this record as it starts with one of her biggest hits; "Running Up That Hill".
This album should definitely be included and is very good, but not in my personal top ~100. Therefore 4/5.
Ministry
1/5
Sub-par album with cringeworthy lyrics.
1/5
Eric Clapton
3/5
461 Ocean Boulevard by Eric Clapton features everything you'd expect from a Clapton record. I Shot The Sheriff became a hit but this is a cover. I feel that, considering Clapton is one of the best guitar players ever, this album is a bit lacking in that regard. The songs are fun and are a real american road trip vibe, but the album is not the most experimental or guitar-heavy.
3/5
A Tribe Called Quest
4/5
Tribe has one of those sounds that makes it hard to stand still. Overall an excellent and funky album.
Rage Against The Machine
5/5
Experimental, political, filled with bangers from back to front and, to me personally, nostalgic.
5/5
Pet Shop Boys
2/5
Pretty forgettable, elevator music.
The Rolling Stones
4/5
Very good album overall. Sympathy is SUCH an amazing start to an album. Experimental instrumentation really shines!
Shuggie Otis
1/5
Having to restart an album multiple times during the day is a bad sign.
The beginning of the album sounds like elevator music or being on hold with your health insurance. The ending (last two songs) are stronger but jeez, before you even get there…
1/5
James Taylor
3/5
Easy listen, mellow sound but also not that special.
New York Dolls
4/5
Excellent album with a huge influence. Very varied instrumentals that create an interesting sound. If only the band could have developed further.
The Clash
5/5
Excellent album.
Coming back in with the new edit mode to upgrade this to 5*
The Offspring
3/5
Although this album was a big success for the band, it sounds lacking. A mediocre vocal performance by the lead singer and instrumentals that are not creative. The band surfed the wave of grunge and punk and only took from the genre, not adding to it.
Besides this the album is an alright listening experience.
3/5
N.W.A.
5/5
Album so good they made a movie about it.
Singlehandedly made west coast hip hop huge and defined gangsta rap up untill this day.
5/5
Prince
2/5
This album is not for me. It was quite boring and I have no interest in returning to it.
2/5
The Youngbloods
3/5
The opening sounded so promising. I was half expecting a folk rock mix album. But alas this was not developed enough.
There are some great songs on this album, like Sham, but not enough to make it a top album.
3/5
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
1/5
When does the music start?
1/5
Grateful Dead
3/5
The album is definitely not as good as some people and critics hype it up to be.
3/5
5/5
Perfect album front to back. All songs are bangers and its influence is beyond comprehension.
5/5
Holger Czukay
2/5
On multiple listens the album became somewhat listenable but I cannot shake the thought of a 5-year-old with a soundpad.
2/5
Stereolab
3/5
Enjoyable background music.
3/5
Nas
5/5
I don’t know how to start this shit
Nas made the mistake of releasing Illmatic too early in his career.
In fact, this being your debut album at 20 is insane.
Sometimes artists just catch lightning in a bottle.
Absolutely 5/5
John Lee Hooker
3/5
What to rate an album that is carried by the guest musicians?
The songs where John Lee Hooker plays alone are much weaker.
Overall not bad.
3/5
Bee Gees
2/5
An unfinished concept album, without concept, that tries really hard to be a Beatles album.
2/5
Joan Armatrading
3/5
The music is nice but it also did not blow my socks off.
3/5
Tracy Chapman
4/5
During multiple listens the album really grew on me. There are really nice songs on this that have a really clear political message as well!
4/5
Leonard Cohen
4/5
This album has the sound of a chill friday night pub where some bloke is playing excellent music in a corner but noone is paying attention. I might put this on on a slightly hungover sunday brunch.
So Long, Marianne is my favourite track of the album.
4/5
Brian Eno
2/5
It is honestly genius how you can copy paste 8 bars to make a song.
2/5
Little Richard
4/5
This album took me back to the very well designed world of Mafia 2.
I would give this album 5 stars for influence but I feel that this sounds more like a “Greatest Hits” album where some songs sound alike a little too much.
4/5
Carole King
4/5
Excellent album
4/5
Dinosaur Jr.
2/5
The instrumentals are decent but the vocal performance is horrible.
A slight plus of the album is how it slowly lures the listener into accepting more and more noise. It starts off quite tame but at the end, it becomes very noisy.
2/5
Burning Spear
3/5
Enjoyable
Dr. Dre
4/5
Hugely influencial project with classic songs. Not exactly my type of hip-hop though.
Still hate skits in an album.
4/5
Soul II Soul
2/5
In my 1-5 star rating system I use 2 stars for music that is not bad, but just not my thing. Therefore 2/5
Dr. John
3/5
Album is very experimental, to the point where making random noises to be “edgy”. Music is good though.
3/5
Dusty Springfield
4/5
I really enjoy Dusty’s music. The only downside to this album is that is just a collection of songs. While that is not bad, concept albums really raised the bar.
4/5
The Undertones
4/5
Very enjoyable punk record
Traffic
4/5
I was pleasently surprised when I hit play. With this album cover, title and artist name I was expecting metal, but I was hit with groovy jazz tunes.
Albums like this is why I love this website.
4/5
The Who
4/5
This album really taught me the importance of reading the wiki. Upon first listen I thought it was a Beatles-inspired double album, but it is actually a rock opera! Really made me appreciate the album more.
4/5
Cat Stevens
3/5
Enjoyable album with two huge hite. Rest is kinda mid.
3/5
The Louvin Brothers
2/5
The songs sound all the same and the vocal performance is not quite there, very nasal.
2/5
Crowded House
3/5
Nice album, some boring songs, some hits.
Kendrick Lamar
4/5
Ofcourse the comparison to TPAB is made. I do think TPAB is better, therefore a very high 4 stars.
4/5
Buena Vista Social Club
5/5
Without some silly coincidences, this album never would have been and with that the sound of a country would have been lost. These amazing musicians and their music would have never been saves for us to enjoy.
Amazing album front to back. It’s even better with translated lyrics next to it.
PJ Harvey
3/5
Nice album but some cringe on it.
The Temptations
3/5
Very solid and groovy album. The songs are a bit same-y and the album is rather short. Enjoyable though.
3/5
Simon & Garfunkel
5/5
Beautifull songs, extremely catchy and an amazing vocal performance.
5/5
R.E.M.
3/5
Mid
Tim Buckley
4/5
I got the perfect sunday morning album on a perfect sunny sunday morning.
4/5
Led Zeppelin
4/5
Very good album, I just think Led Zeppelin has even better ones.
4/5
Bebel Gilberto
4/5
Solid bossa nova record. I love getting international stuff.
4/5
Leonard Cohen
3/5
Second Cohen album and this one is weaker than the first. The album does not really get going. The instrumentals are very good but I feel like Leonard Cohan is breathing, not singing, into my brain.
3/5
The Prodigy
4/5
Excellent electrionic album
Bon Jovi
3/5
This album is both very mid and huge. Songs are super famous and everybody knows them, but the quality is not the highest. No experiments, just safe pop metal music.
3/5
Joanna Newsom
3/5
That was a very interesting experience! Very nice music and lyricism. Only dislike is the timbre of her voice.
4/5
CHVRCHES
2/5
Edgy 2010s hipster music with edgy spelling. They even dare to say “fuck”.
Album has not aged well.
2/5
Beatles
4/5
Solid Beatles album from before their more experimental projects.
4/5
Dusty Springfield
4/5
Second Dusty album. I feel like “Dusty in Memphis” is better but this album is nice as well.
4/5
Simon & Garfunkel
4/5
Second Simon and Garfunkel album. This one is not as good as Bridge but shows signs of their greatness.
4/5
Ryan Adams
2/5
Album os pretty mid. Never heard of Ryan Adams and will not be returning.
2/5
Frank Zappa
4/5
Very nice album with howling solo’s.
4/5
Joe Ely
3/5
Okay country album. Starts off promising.
3/5
Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark
3/5
The first song is SUCH a banger that it makes me sad the rest of the album is not more like it.
3/5
Aretha Franklin
5/5
Voice like a bazooka and songs to go with it.
5/5
Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band
4/5
Wacky album with blues and rock inspirations. Not as unhinged as trout mask yet.
4/5
Pulp
3/5
The tracks are fun but forgettable like one of those cooking videos.
I will not return to this record.
3/5
Genesis
3/5
I understand what they were trying to do. A lot of rythm switches and experimental time signatures, but it also has to sound good.
3/5
B.B. King
4/5
Very solid for a live album.
4/5
Kanye West
5/5
Amazing album that still sounds futuristic! Hugely influential, sparking a new genre!
5/5
3/5
I understand what they were trying to do. A lot of rythm switches and experimental time signatures, but it also has to sound good.
3/5
Elvis Costello
3/5
I understand what they were trying to do. A lot of rythm switches and experimental time signatures, but it also has to sound good.
3/5
Pantera

Not my usual thing but I cannot give it a 1. I understand this albums place in music.
2/5
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
4/5
So much better than Ghosteen.
4/5
Eagles
3/5
I understand what they were trying to do. A lot of rythm switches and experimental time signatures, but it also has to sound good.
3/5
Blondie
4/5
Really good pop album! Not all songs bang as much as Blondie’s biggest hits off this record, therefore 4/5.
Air
3/5
You can really tell it is music for a movie. I was missing sonething in every song.
3/5
Sinead O'Connor
2/5
Not really my thing. Takes a while tto get going.
2/5
The Clash
4/5
I regret giving London Calling only 4/5 and this should be lower. But it’s still 4/5 for me.
The Black Crowes
3/5
Pretty mid rock album.
3/5
Spiritualized
5/5
Really blown away by this album.
Amazing!

3/5
Air
4/5
Really enjoyed this! A lot better than the previous Air album I got.
4/5
The United States Of America
4/5
This is what you get when you turn psychedelia up to 11. Very good album with just one downside: it is a bit incoherent.
4/5
The Stranglers
3/5
Okay rock album
Stevie Wonder
3/5
Not my favourite style, but still some bangers on this album.
3/5
The Band
4/5
Decent album with one huge hit. Enjoyable listening experience
Common
4/5
Very refreshing to get some hip hop.
Produced by a prime Kanye and decent rap.
4/5
The Verve
4/5
Really enjoyed this album! I will have to return to the 3 hour deluxe version some other time, but this album sounds like more.
4/5
George Harrison
4/5
Probably the best solo album to come out of the Beatles.
4/5
Björk
2/5
I know Bjork gets hyped up by music fans but this ain’t it.
Genesis
3/5
Kinda mid album, some bangers bring it up to 3/5
Duke Ellington
4/5
Makes me wish I was there. Amazing musicians!
Using the edit mode to give this 4* which is a better score in the grand scheme of things.
Magazine
3/5
Okay album
Madness
3/5
Huge hit in Our House. They added like 5 versions of this song to the album. The rest of the songs sound very similar.
Okay listen but will not return.
3/5
The Thrills
3/5
Kinda folky, but very mid.
3/5
Stan Getz
4/5
Very good jazz album. Loved the theme.
4/5
The Style Council
3/5
It’s quite fun listen but stays very safe.
3/5
Kinda enjoyable but will not return. Album tries to be a bunch of things at once.
Pixies
4/5
Very nice album, kinda punky/grungy.
Mj Cole
3/5
Some Ibiza-type club music after a lot of rock and blues. There was some variation in the songs but overall it felt a bit long.
Thelonious Monk
4/5
Excellent jazz album.
Röyksopp
3/5
Music for a spy thriller, enjoyable though.
3/5
Paul Simon
4/5
Excellent album. Paul Simon is great.
Sarah Vaughan
4/5
Very enjoyable. I'm always a big fan of live albums that are this good.
4/5
The Jesus And Mary Chain
3/5
That was decent enough. A lot of big sounds from the guitar and distortion. Reminds me of a tuned up Joy Division.
3/5
Nine Inch Nails
3/5
Oof, in the way I listened to this album, that is, catching up after a vacation, this came in RAW. I do not dislike it but I will probably not return to it.
The Beach Boys
3/5
This album is a lot weaker than Pet Sounds. Very decent but boring poppy music for girls to scream to.
3/5
Elvis Presley
3/5
Not his strongest record. Some covers and all that.
3/5
2/5
Not for me, a lot of boring songs...
2/5
Arcade Fire
4/5
Really enjoyed this! Very good.
4/5
Elis Regina
3/5
Very fun album! Not something I would find on my own, but similarly something I will probably not return to.
3/5
Joni Mitchell
2/5
This album had some nice songs but most of them were quite boring to me. Not my thing.
2/5
The Go-Go's
4/5
Reading up on this album I now know why I never heard of them; they sadly never became big in Europe. I like the punky/wave sound they have going on.
3/5
Funkadelic

The music is not bad, comparable to an easy pasta; something everyone is okay with but it will not get any Michelin stars. I do feel like these songs are outdated for 2002, but okay, give the boomers something to jam to.

There are some very good songs on this album; Me Against The World and Dear Mama, but also so many filler and poorly aged songs
3/5
Kanye West
5/5
As a review from 2021 put it; Classic. Sadly, he’s crazy now
If only they knew how bad it would get.
The same man who created one of my favourite albums of all time is now a swastika touting twat, to the point I rarely return to his older work. That is a real shame, because I love MBDTF and TLOP.

Metallica
4/5
About what you’d expect. High energy!
4/5
U2
3/5
Quite generic U2 album. One nice song and the rest okay.
3/5
Robert Wyatt
2/5
You can tell it is made and produced by drummers. There seems to be a lack of melody where the songs are merely a collection of rythms.
+1 for the novelty I guess
2/5
The Jam
4/5
About as British as it gets. I was unfamiliar with them and I’m glad I discovered them.
4/5
Randy Newman
3/5
A nice album. I kept waiting for “A Friend in Me”
3/5
The Mamas & The Papas
3/5
I was only exposed to the bangers on this album, being “Monday, Monday” and “California Dreamin’”. However, the album does have some duds.
3/5
Billie Holiday
4/5
Amazong voice, but the songs do blend in a little.
4/5
Simon & Garfunkel
4/5
Very good album, if a bit short. Excellent preamble to “Bridge”
4/5
Public Image Ltd.
2/5
Eh not my thing
2/5
TV On The Radio
3/5
TV On The Radio has a unique sound. The album starts off with a low static drumming sound. This style returns several times on the album but I feel it is never developed to the full potential.
Decent listen but some songs are lacking.
3/5
Stephen Stills
3/5
I’m on a bit of a roll with “okay” albums. I don’t hate that de website recommended them to me, but to say they are absolute must hears - no.
Stills and his other work with Crosby & co. is always pleasant on the ear and this album is no different. Just a good folky rocky record, with not too many standouts.
3/5
Adam & The Ants
3/5
Wacky stuff, not very good but entrancing at times.
Just about mid because it stands out
3/5
3/5
Instrumentals are nice but vocals are lacking. Songs have a new wave sound that is unpolished.
3/5
The Strokes
5/5
Wiffs of velvet underground and joy division, what an amazing debut album to skyrocket to fame with…
Features very highly on “music connoisseurs” list and in many topster but never got further than a few of their hits.
Even though the song structure is not always very complex and the album is only 35 mins long, this was an amazing listening experience. The music that “liberated” millenials.
Absolute banger
5/5
Yes
3/5
They try some experimental stuff that does feel very after the fact. They attempt some dreamlike socal hippie songs but are too late for the summer of love.
3/5
Santana
4/5
Very good album, experimental while creating actually enjoyable songs
4/5
The Kinks
4/5
Decent Beatlecore album! Quite enjoyable for the 60s!
Tom Waits
4/5
Very enjoyable album. Slightly weaker than Rain Dogs but still good.
4/5
Public Enemy
4/5
Oof, this has not really aged well… but a lot of the music I love would not exist without this. 4* on account of the influence.
4/5
Jack White
3/5
It’s a decent rock record but it is also forgettable.
3/5
Lou Reed
3/5
The music is by no means bad, but is not a stand-out album either. Just some good tunes with an oddity mixed in here and there.
Looking forward to Transformer
3/5
Os Mutantes
3/5
This album is just “out there” enough to remain interesting. Though I feel they are trying too hard sometimes, it is overall an enjoyable listen.
3/5
New Order
3/5
Decent synth-pop dance record. Not much more to say.
3/5
Morrissey
3/5
The music is okay, I hear he is a cunt but I don't really know his personal stuff.
3/5
Mott The Hoople
3/5
Decent album
3/5
Violent Femmes
3/5
Another okay album.
Nothing too crazy…
3/5
Sigur Rós
5/5
Banger. They weave musical dreamscapes. Not understanding the language really helps in appreciating the music more abstractly.
5/5
Eurythmics
4/5
Classic album with a banger of a lead single!
4/5
The Bees
2/5
Really quite forgettable and I am unsure of its place on the list
2/5
Earth, Wind & Fire
3/5
It’s a decent disco album. I feel they have better music out there.
3/5
Beck
3/5
Ecclectic mix of styles that meanders everywhere, yet goes nowhere. Nothing really stands out and I will probably forget this album soon. The songs themselves are not horrible.
3/5
The Coral
3/5
Yeah it’s not groundbreaking, but it’s an ecclectic mix of music that did quite well on a friday afternoon on the beach.
3/5
Dolly Parton
3/5
I thank the generator for giving me something outside of my comfort zone, but this was not for me. The vocal harmonies of these three singers are very good though, I am just not a country fan. 3 stars on account of the vocals.
3/5
Brian Eno
3/5
I guess the music is revolutionary, I wasn’t alive to witness it. The music doesn’t really stand on its own and it feels like they are being experimental for the sake of it…
3/5
The Byrds
3/5
It’s a decent, dreamy, 60’s album. The unique sound of The Byrds with their dual voices of which one is falsetto was born.
3/5
Travis
2/5
Weird how the secret song at the end of the album is probably the best song. Very bland and background musicy.
2/5 could’ve done without
Scissor Sisters
2/5
The falsetto does get old rather quickly. Without that quirk, not a lot is ledt. Ironically the extra songs on the UK album are better than the album itself.
2/5
10cc
3/5
That was an okay experience. Album is all over the place.
3/5
Marvin Gaye
4/5
Just a very good album!
4/5
R.E.M.
4/5
Very good album with one obvious mega hit.
4/5
Songhoy Blues
4/5
Amazing album with a sad story. The music is really good and I thank the algorithm for giving me this. A very high 4 stars and if I find myself returning to the album, I will come back to give it 5*.
4/5
David Bowie
4/5
RIP Bowie, you went out with a banger
4/5
Ozomatli
4/5
A score below 3 is not deserved for this. Too many "not on spotify" reviews. Like, yeah of course I would rather listen to the studio version than to a drum cover version on youtube. The music is fun but not groundbreaking and some songs are lacking. Overall very good
4/5
The Afghan Whigs
3/5
One of these “not really a must listen”.
3/5
Cowboy Junkies
2/5
Very slow burn, not my thing
2/5
Everything But The Girl
2/5
Last dance at the high school prom type music
2/5
Alanis Morissette
4/5
Absolute banger! It formed a generation of angsty girls. Decade-defining.
4/5
Simply Red
2/5
Started off interesting and dropped off quite a lot.
2/5
Bobby Womack
4/5
Banger! Whirling music fron to back
4/5
3/5
A very raw and industrial record. I wouldn't have found this on my own, so that's what the list is for!
3/5
The Black Keys
3/5
Featured in playlists such as "Music to walk like a badass to"
3/5
Gram Parsons
3/5
By no means bad, just not for me
3/5
The Byrds
4/5
A very good album for it’s time. Wuite enjoyed this!
4/5
Supertramp
4/5
Good album! Very symphonic at times.
4/5
Kid Rock
1/5
I always knew this would happen someday and I was quite prejudiced towards this album, but it really is that bad.
1/5
Maxwell
2/5
Elevator porno music
2/5
Prince
3/5
There is some nice experimentation on this album and it's overall not bad.
Enjoyable listen. 3/5
Randy Newman
3/5
The music is fine and has a jazzy sound to it. Vocals are decent as well. A nice album that doesn't stand out too much.
3/5
Talking Heads
4/5
An excellent debut album for the Talking Heads. This band never had the strongest vocals and that becomes evident on this album as well. I feel like on later projects they figured out how to hide this flaw better, almost using the vocals as percussion. You can definitely hear some of the Punk influences while adding that New Wave synth sound on top.
4/5
CHIC
4/5
Good instrumentals and good vocals. What more do you want? Interesting how their weakest song intrumentally became their biggest hit: Le Freak. The follow up song, Savoir Faire, is a lot more interesting. I like the tubular bells on I Want Your Love. Overall very good!
4/5
Neil Young
4/5
Quite enjoyable! I love the small parts of brass instruments. Not a fan of his vocals though.
4/5
fIREHOSE
3/5
The album features some nice instrumentals, vocals are slightly lacking. Overall, not bad. I would not have found this on my own but will not return to it.
3/5
Pink Floyd
5/5
Another album that got a visceral reaction out of me when it came out of the algorithm.
Thanks for making me listen to this again.
5/5
Ooh now I get why I got it today :(
ZZ Top
3/5
Separate the art from the artist. The whole aesthetic is very cringe to me, but the music is good. Who cares, I listen to them so I didn’t have to see them. There is a lul in the quality, album goes up and down.
3/5
Drive Like Jehu
3/5
Energetic and raw. Music for a mood, not my usual mood though. Allright for a while but went on too long.
3/5
Donovan
4/5
Excellent psych rock album. Season of the Witch is a huge banger of course. Weaves amazong soundscapes while alluding to Hades, Arthur and other esoterics. Very enjoyable!
4/5
Blur
3/5
It was okay
3/5
Bauhaus
4/5
Decent 80’s album. I hear some Joy Division through it all. Instrumentals are good and all over the place.
4/5
Jane's Addiction
3/5
Instrumentally good, vocally weak. There is a certain energy to it all though, not bad.
3/5
The Cars
3/5
Fun but forgettable, not too many things that stand out or shock
3/5
Harry Nilsson
4/5
I have the sneaking suspicion this whole album was included because of “Without You”… and rightly so! What a banger. The rest of the album is good as well.
4/5
Suicide
3/5
Quite a futuristic sound for 1977. Not all songs on the album are strong, "Girl" had vocals that are too moany. Incoherent shouting on "Frankie Teardrop", really wastes a decent instrumental.
Overall not bad.
3/5
Korn
1/5
My first exposure to Korn was a collab with Notorious BIG of all people. I hated it. Now I get to listen to over an hour of it.
It's for edgy teens who do poorly in school. Any high reviews are of those edgy teens that are now adults.
It really is horrible.
1/5
Heaven 17
3/5
The song eponymous with the album is the stand-out song. Rest is mid.
3/5
Culture Club
3/5
For me, the question that always arises with these albums is if the huge hit song on it merits its inclusion. In this case, probably yes, as this style had its moment and influence.
As an album, it's okay.
3/5
Metallica
3/5
It's an interesting idea, combining metal with a symphony orchestra, but my god does it drag on. I really think it would be improved when cut back to 1 cd.
3/5
Machito
4/5
Yes! Exactly what I use this project for!
Hugely influential and a joy to listen to.
4/5
Miriam Makeba
4/5
Christ the generetor is on fire. The Afro-Cuban album “Kenya” yesterday and today it’s straight to Africa with Miriam Makeba.
As said yesterday; this is what the generator is for. Lovely album. “One More Dance” is a very weird song though…
4/5
Robbie Williams
3/5
That was okay. Robbie Williams was huge in Europe and I was surprised he wasn’t as well-known in the States. There are some huge hits here but overall it’s just okay.
3/5
Elvis Costello & The Attractions
2/5
More Costello. It wouldn't be as bad if this was the first album, but why is he so overrepresented on this list. This is another utterly forgettable album which I will never return to.
2/5
Joni Mitchell
4/5
Enjoyed this way more than the previous Joni album.
4/5
Deee-Lite
4/5
That was an unexpectedly nice and groovy album! Quite enjoyed that!
4/5
Hanoi Rocks
3/5
Okay album, didn't stand out too much
Public Enemy
3/5
Very sample driven, to the point of sounding messy. Not nearly as good as Nation of Millions.
3/5
Kings of Leon
3/5
Decent album, some crunchy guitars and a squeaky voice. I wonder how his voice lasted this long, perhaps he did learn to sing at some point.
3/5
The Psychedelic Furs
3/5
Decent 80s album.
3/5
The Boo Radleys
4/5
Actually quite enjoyable if a bit on the long side. I hear some elements of later bands (Radiohead, MBV)
4/5
The Associates
2/5
Quite a forgettable record. Not sure about its placement.
2/5
Pentangle
3/5
Decent folk album. Started not good and picked up from there
3/5
The Roots
4/5
Amazong hip hop album. Way ahead of its time! Thoroughly enjoyed this. I was already a fan of The Roots, Black Thought specifically, and this just cemented that.
4/5
Emerson, Lake & Palmer
2/5
Just trying to be psychedelic for the sake of it. Not really good or enjoyable.
2/5
Tortoise
3/5
Quite an interesting listen! This is what this project is for.
3/5
Tangerine Dream
2/5
Incomplete version on spotify… what I did hear was not very good…
2/5
Michael Jackson
4/5
Excellent album, though not as strong as “Thriller”. If Thriller is a high 4*, I feel this is a low 4*
4/5
Franz Ferdinand
4/5
Enjoyable en quite influential in the early 2000's. A bit repetitive musically but a good listening experience.
4/5
Love
5/5
Excellent psych-rock album. Really quit enjoyed this. I was familiar with some tracks but never listened to the whole album.
5/5
Don McLean
4/5
A nice singer-songwritery album full of americana. 38 minutes of chill tunes.
4/5
Pere Ubu
1/5
Wow that is some opening…
The first two songs are instrumentally identical with bad vocals. Then the ear rape continues on “Laughing”. I am not laughing.
No redeeming qualities on this album and very hard to finish.
1/5
Boards of Canada
4/5
Actually quite decent!
4/5
Wilco
3/5
Lovely, dreamy album. Yes it’s long and some of it sounds similar, but still, very nice.
It does fade into the background though.
3/5
Booker T. & The MG's
3/5
Decent album, it is just a jam sessions of which one became a huge hit.
3/5
Erykah Badu
3/5
Decent album, musically good. I just never got into the R&B sound.
3/5 not for me I guess
3/5
The album comes in raw and unlubed. If you get past the initial friction you can actually start to somewhat enjoy it.
3/5 no i won't return to it
The Magnetic Fields
3/5
Oh god it finally happened to me. So he set out to write 100 love songs but got stuck at 69. Honestly I wish he limited himself to a lower number. Just writing funny number amount of songs for the sake of it, is not good.
The songs that do stand out could be condensed to a 4 or 5 star album.
For now 3/5
Al Green
4/5
Lovely album, very good instrumentals and nice vocals
4/5
Fatboy Slim
3/5
Decent electronic album, honestly not enough on this list
3/5
The Crusaders
4/5
The lead single is amazing. Overall very good.
4/5
Dennis Wilson
4/5
The chorus work is quite nice. Overall quite decent!
4/5
Ray Charles
3/5
Decent project, expansive and quite enjoyable
3/5
Richard Hawley
4/5
Surprisingly nice album!
4/5
Skepta
4/5
Ladies Hit Squad is a horrible Drake-impression. Overall a very good ajd i fluential album and as with all hip hop albums, underrated on this list.
4/5
Lucinda Williams
4/5
Enjoyable folky album.
4/5
Joy Division
5/5
Absolute banger!
5/5
Iron Butterfly
4/5
Excellent psych rock album with an expansive title track to close it off.
Very good 4/5
Wu-Tang Clan
5/5
Amazing album. Wu forever
5/5
Dexys Midnight Runners
3/5
Decent album, banger in Come On Eileen.
Frank Sinatra
3/5
Overall quite nice, one of these old school albums that is basically a collection of songs.
3/5
Dexys Midnight Runners
4/5
Quite enjoyed this! Lovely brass, always a good addition.
4/5
Suede
3/5
Decent album
3/5
The Undertones
3/5
Yeah it's okay, nothing horrible but fades into the background
3/5
Sparks
2/5
Not very enjoyable
2/5
Japan
2/5
Meh this was too slow and brooding for me
2/5
Dead Kennedys
4/5
High energy album with extremely based lyrics. However it is still lacking something...
4/5
Sly & The Family Stone
3/5
Okay album, kinda forgettable
3/5
Traffic
3/5
Decently enjoyable album
3/5
Serge Gainsbourg
3/5
Instrumentals are very interesting but the french bloke wispering in my ear does get tiring.
3/5
Marty Robbins
4/5
Overall banger and an easy listen. Don't look for deeper meaning here.
4/5
Public Image Ltd.
2/5
It was allright. Musically was marginally better than the vocals, which were bad.
2/5
Slipknot
2/5
Physically cringed when I pulled this. Physically cringed when I listened to it.
2/5
John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers
4/5
This is very good. I expected nothing less from Clapton.
High 4*
Dizzee Rascal
3/5
This was supposed be right up my alley. I like rap and I think grime is very undervalued... but this is just not that good of an album.
3/5
Neneh Cherry
2/5
This R&B is not for me. Not bad music to say but not my thing.
2/5
Guided By Voices
3/5
Like leaving the radio on while in a dream.
Small Faces
3/5
Decent tunes probably most famous for GTAV
3/5
Deep Purple
3/5
Yeah it's good... but the songs are already good. There are better albums, heck, there's even better live albums.
3/5
Boston
4/5
Actually quite enjoyed this! High on the americana-score but very good.
4/5
Lightning Bolt
2/5
Almost couldn't finish this, very rough listen. Not good en never return.
2/5
3/5
Decent album
3/5
Bob Dylan
4/5
Good album, Bob is an excellent songwriter.
4/5
Rocket From The Crypt
2/5
This album pretends to be a high-octane energy album but falls short.
2/5
Ice Cube
3/5
Decent album, "It Was A Good Day" is a banger. Leans heavily on (un)sampled interviews as skits, which, regardless of message, distracts.
3/5
Cypress Hill
3/5
Black Sunday would have been a better inclusion. The lyrics are never very strong with Cypress Hill (haha weed, get it?) but at least that album is catchier and better production.
3/5
Roni Size
5/5
Really loved this! Right up my DnB alley.
5/5
Janis Joplin
4/5
That was actually quite decent, if a bit shouty.
4/5
Raekwon
3/5
A decent rap album, not really a standout but nice to hear from the Wu.
3/5
Primal Scream
3/5
Eh it's okay. Very forgettable but a nice enough listen.
3/5
Deep Purple
4/5
Excellent album, rock icon
4/5
The White Stripes
3/5
So I gave "Elephant" a 3 and this is worse... Scraping through to another 3, but barely.
3/5
Pere Ubu
2/5
Yeah this is not very good. Too much gibberish
2/5
Badly Drawn Boy
4/5
Never judge an album by its cover, or its title for that matter. This was very good and I enjoyed it, contrary to my expectation when I got it.
4/5
GZA
4/5
A very good album. Shadowboxin’ is an amazing song. Very high 4*
Fairport Convention
4/5
Legendary sunday morning album pull. Went on a nature walk with this album and it was an amazing experience. Might return for the 5th star but for now high 4*/5
The Divine Comedy
3/5
Decent enough
3/5
Johnny Cash
3/5
It's nice if a bit short. If you remove all the talking you are left with very little music. It's cool that it's in a jail but if you'd have paid for 20 minutes then you'd feel miffed.
3/5
Sisters Of Mercy
3/5
Decent dark and broody album
3/5
Frank Sinatra
4/5
Lovely album!
4/5
Minutemen
3/5
Yeah that was both expansive and forgettable
2/5
3/5
Decent album
3/5
Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
3/5
That’s quite enough banjo and fiddle for one lifetime.
3/5
The Pogues
4/5
Love a bit of Irish tunes
4/5
Television
4/5
Actually quite enjoyed that.
4/5
Fleet Foxes
4/5
Food album, folky.
4/5
Run-D.M.C.
3/5
It's a nice album but maybe hasn't aged the best.
3/5
Coldplay
4/5
Very good, very popular
4/5
XTC
3/5
Quite enjoyable but not very noteworthy
3/5
Nirvana
4/5
Quite enjoyable and very influential
4/5
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
3/5
Decent, nothing bad nothing amazing
3/5
The Beta Band
4/5
Shitty album cover, good music. Lovely
4/5
Guns N' Roses
4/5
Insane for a debut. If i liked hard rock more it would be 5* for sure
4/5
Hot Chip
3/5
That was okay, not a stand out
3/5
Ryan Adams
3/5
Quite fun but forgettable
3/5
Gillian Welch
2/5
Yeah this got old about two songs in. Not my thing
2/5
