My first album and we’re off to a great start. The only reason I remember any of it is from how weird it is. Maybe it’s one of those things that only appeals if you’ve done some hard drugs
Love a lot of the beats on these tracks, but man the vocals are grating
Some decent hard rock but just kinda meh all around, none of the songs really stood out to me except for the stupid chant about the priests in the TWENTY MINUTE opening track. Never understood why bands would mash multiple songs into one track
A mix of songs you’d hear in a coffee shop or played live in a fancy restaurant. Easy listening, just nothing all that remarkable
I’ve already come back to this one a few times after listening to it. Reelin in the Years is an earworm for sure
This project has made me a big Stevie Wonder fan! Ashamed to say I hadn’t listened to his stuff before this. This was another great record, but I’d say that Songs in the Key of Life is better, hence the 4/5
Solid 80s rock, I just feel very neutral about it overall. King of pain and every breath you take were the only two tracks that really stood out to me
Album was cheeks. I felt more and more vaguely pissed off the more I listened
This album is a treasure in the same way that a colonoscopy is a pleasant experience
It’s Hendrix, of course it’s great
Wonderful, moving music. A fantastic experience from such an interesting artist
Wow this was great! Feels like a clear winter night where the stars and moon are super bright. Wonderful album
This was incredibly dull and repetitive
Couldn’t understand a word, but I was vibing
I wanna sniff some glue to forget that I listened to this. Fortunately, there’s a song for that.
Lovely jazz with a forever memorable album name
A respectable pop album that made me understand why Timberlake is popular, even if it’s not my thing
This is like elevator music. I can’t wait to reach my floor and get off.
Yeah this was written by some horny dudes alright. The beats and melody generally remind me of what I think a cheap strip club would be like. On this album you’ll enjoy brilliantly written lyrics such as: “I was born, one day I’ll die” and “sex dwarf (sex dwarf), mmmmm sex dwarf.” The post-nut clarity will go crazy
A weirdly unique concept album that I really liked. A crazy album name like that gets me imagining a story throughout the record, which I think was the goal
There’s a reason they called Sinatra “the voice” back in the day, his vocals are truly unmatched. However, the song quality on this album is pretty mediocre other than that. The heartbreak theme would be interesting if there was a progression throughout the record of healing and moving on, but as it is, this just feels like the same sad song sung several different ways
I don’t really get the Nick Cave fanboying. Some of this was good, other bits were meh. I don’t understand the need for the double-album here, both are fairly different and combining them doesn’t feel warranted
Kinda sounds like the Undertale soundtrack with lyrics. I was bopping
A little more forgettable than “Very,” which I had yesterday, but still solid
Beautiful singing and a timeless sound for 60s music
A very safe album. Nothing unappealing about it, but it doesn’t bring anything new to the table. It could also be about 20 minutes shorter and that would be a big improvement
Destroy boring electronica
Great stuff, Free Bird hits even harder when you listen to it as the conclusion of an epic album
Generally not a rap fan, but honestly a pretty solid album. Simz brings a unique perspective to the genre that I enjoyed. I also just listened to Kiwanuka’s album before this so it was fun hearing him again on the last track
I cannot stand Neil Young’s voice
This date was hardly worth the free meal. Also, I’m not into threesomes
I feel actively dumber having listened to this
Wow, both Stooges albums back to back for me. This one is more tolerable than the last one, but still not all that great
I understand that Mathers is a rap god, but I just cant divorce the bangers in this album from the absolutely disgusting and disturbing content interwoven in all the other lyrics. Genuinely some of the most vile and sophomoric stuff I’ve ever heard.
Some solid rock. I really don’t see why this is on here though. Present-day they hardly have 35K listeners on spotify
My friends are pretty into Kravitz, but I’m not terribly impressed by this album. Solid melodies but it just failed to keep my attention beyond the first half
Sweet, relaxing instrumentals, and Kiwanuka’s voice is nothing but incredible. Really a surprise album for me, never had heard of this one before, but man was it good
Really enjoyed this one! Solid album from a group I’ve never heard before. I kind of agree with the general consensus that it doesn’t belong on this list, but I enjoyed listening nonetheless
A fun record. Took me a minute to get into it but after I did, I enjoyed it! It does feel quite dated, though. The record scratching and lyric rhythms scream 80s rap
Some of Ye’s best. Sad to see where he’s at now
Enjoyable music, just nothing that stood out to me about the album
Great vibes, always fun to get surprised by a song you know already. That was “Our House,” on this one for me
Mmmm yes just what I wanted. Random noises for an extended period of time. There’s something funny about one of the lowest rated albums on here being called “Rock Bottom”
As a rock/metal fan, I’m ashamed to admit I had never listened to Iron Maiden before. This was a great album
Did not know Nigerian nationalist music could hit so hard
The melodies on this album are great for the most part, but I’ve never liked Bowie’s voice
Solid blues music, it was fun listening to all the concert dialogue with the audience.
Got a good chuckle out of Mothers Lament, but the rest of the songs blurred together. I actually listened to the album twice because I forgot where I left off and didn’t realize I was two songs from the end.
A solid album all around, but I liked their self-titled album more than this one
There’s something so epic about singing outlaw country live in a prison. Good stuff Johnny Cash
If I were to rate this album by the instrumentals, I would give it a 4 or 5. If I were to rate it by the vocals, I would give it a 1 or 2. Overall, it’s fine. Would be some great background music in a Starbucks.
An enjoyable listen, but didn’t particularly move me in any way.
Just kinda mid, all of the songs blended together after the first track, which was the best one
Beautiful. ABBA’s melodies never fail to take me to another place. There’s a reason they have so many classics that you still hear played
Enjoyed the melodies and instrumentals on this one. Lyrically, the album is trash. The main chorus of most songs consists of repeating the song title 2-5 times, and the verses and bridges aren’t much more interesting. I would have given this a 3, but after seeing all the glazing 5 star reviews, I decided to downgrade to a 2 for justice
I’m normally a metal fan, but good grief this is an atrocious album. I felt like I was listening to my goth neighbor’s band play demos for their songs through our shared apartment wall while her toddler-mauling pit-bull with Down syndrome occasionally barked in the background.
Where to begin? It’s poorly mixed, 90% of what you can hear are the drums (especially the cymbals, which they like to beat relentlessly). The lyrics are unintelligible for most songs - even with the lyrics next to me I couldn’t make some of them out. The lyrics were also misspelled a couple of times, which I think is indicative of the average IQ of someone who cares enough to listen to this slop. And yeah, they sound like a dog with Down syndrome. Even though this album is only 30 minutes long, the number of songs (and how bad they are) makes it feel like it’s 3 hours.
A calm, peaceful album that was very relaxing to listen to. It does a great job of being subdued without compromising on melody or vocal quality, which is often my issue with artists who try to capture a similar vibe.
Musically, this is undeniably a good album, but the gall Harrison had to make this OVER TWO HOURS LONG is crazy, especially when the last three tracks are all instrumental with an average length of 8 minutes each, and several tracks are different versions of songs already on the record. All that prevents me from giving it a 5 out of self-respect.
A fun little blues album. Reminds me of something you’d hear on a jukebox in a classy 60s pub.
Was kinda vibing with this at the start, but it really wore on me as the album went on. It’s not atrocious, but the most remarkable part of it was the cover art. Too freaky
I was completely unaware of the Kuti family before starting this project. Even though I’ve never heard of them, I completely understand why their albums made the list. This four-track, fifty-minute album is a great listen
A good chunk of the songs on this album sounds like the mother of modern lo-fi music. I’m from the United States of kiss my ass
An acceptable rock album, nothing that crazy here
A funky album with some raw lyrics. Just a little too funky for me
Not a bad album, just nothing special stood out to me about it
This album is about as odd as the cover art and name suggest. The interludes are silly goofy and very very very British. Musically, nothing to hate though, lots of solid melodies and lyrics
This is kind of like a Weezer album without the traits of Weezer music that make it endearing
I have a really hard time taking Brits who call themselves anarchists seriously. Your accent is far too goofy.
Thought I knew what I was getting from this one after the first song. Boy was I wrong- Nilsson takes things all over the place in terms of genre and style, making it a very interesting listen
I’ve heard better synth albums
The inflated sense of self-importance that these Brits have needs to be studied. This album sucked. So repetitive, so boring, and SO LONG.
Wow, this was great! Based on the reviewers, it sounds like I’ve just been living under a rock, but I signed up for this challenge to expose myself to new artists like this. Beautiful stuff
A mix of tolerable melodies, lyrics straight from an acid trip, and random noises. It was interesting to listen to mostly because I had no idea what nonsense was coming next, but you’re out of your mind if you think I’ll ever listen to this again
Man this is about a hundred times better than Murmur, but I’m still not an REM fan. Even when the melodies are bangers, the lyrics are soooooooo repetitive and that spoils it for me.
Also, REM has FOUR albums on this list??? That is a crime
It’s a huge day to be a white boy
Pretty alright I guess. I’m sure I’d enjoy it more if I knew some Portuguese or whatever
Yep, this is British 60s rock alright. I see why it’s a big deal for its time but it sounds dated today
Took me awhile to figure out that this is the guy who wrote Hey Ya, then everything made sense. A very good double-album, the two halves are very distinct. The album really goes downhill after Hey Ya, but oh well, all around it was solid
Favorites: Church, Hey Ya!
This album is getting far more hate on here than it deserves. I was expecting to really dislike this but honestly? It’s just some decent rock. A little bit ahead of its time in terms of sound for the 80s. I’d listen to this ten times over another repetitive Brit-pop album
I really enjoyed this, probably because I wasn’t a college frat boy in the early 2000s who heard it over and over back then
It’s pretty good blues, what more can I say?
Waiter! Waiter! More BritPop please!
There she goes carries the whole album for sure. I’m also vaguely pissed that they used an apostrophe in their name.
I’m not a huge country guy, but I can’t imagine liking a country album more than this one! Infinitely better than the modern Texas Roadhouse-grade country you hear today, a nice mix of country vibes with some solid rock. You all are so dramatic with your reviews 🤠
Listening to this album feels like listening to one two hour long song. This is in part because almost every song is 10-20 minutes long, and partly because all of it sounds the same without much distinction. There’s no “hook” or “groove” that distinguishes one song from another. Even so, it’s very pleasant and not at all unbearable. Mad respect to Davis for his musical talent, but this is album does not demonstrate it
Listened to this one twice and really enjoyed it both times! I’m still a little surprised it’s rated *this* high, but maybe nostalgia is a crazy drug? Can’t be too mad
A little jazzy, a little salsa-y, a pretty fine album
Sad campfire outlaw country
Got all three of the Kuti family albums within the first 100 days. Crazy stuff. Anyways this was pretty good, just like the other two were, better than britpop any day of the week
Shut up and take my 4, afrobeat
Some great 80s pop-rock with a neat African influence throughout! Very cool collaboration
Very dull country rock. I wanna shove his harmonica down his throat.
They actually called it Led Zeppelin III because they knew it was gonna be a 3/5 album
Too many beep boops. Genius of Love is endearing but the rest of the album sounds like listening to schoolhouse rock on LSD
Some tracks have a banger beat, others just sound overproduced. Never really been a big fan of interludes in albums either
This project has convinced me that the genre of “Rock” is far too broad to be meaningful. I think if you randomly plucked a guitar for 40 minutes the album would be labeled rock. If you used an acoustic guitar specifically it’d be called folk rock. Anyways this isn’t all that great either, I see the early indie influence but it’s just very underwhelming
Your typical 80s hair band rock-metal
Feels like listening to a stream of consciousness poetry with some light rock in the background. The lyrics rarely have any meaning, and her voice is so very whiny. Not good
