Reviews (page 8 of 8)

2/10 Dumb AF punky metal, but at least it is self-knowingly stupid and not self-serious. Kind of shocking this is considered top 1000 of all time Really not my thing, 2-3 songs in a row is ok, the whole album caused me a headache… Chugging riffs and driving drums, sounds metal, but the vocals are more representative of pop punk and emo bands, think Offspring or Green Day. Bit of a clash. Best: Don’t say Motherfucker, Motherfucker (but just because of the name, didn’t like any of the music)

Based on the guitars in the opening few seconds, I thought “why have I not heard of this band or album?” Well, now I know. Because it’s trash. Absolutely awful.

I would love to read why this is included on the list. I find it hard to believe anyone says let’s put on the wonderful Apocalypse Dudes album. First riff I thought ok this sounds pretty good, then the rest of the album happened.

No, no, no, no, and no. The most meaningless lyrics, with random obscenities thrown in for flavor. Their hit song, Age of Pamparius, and I kid you not, is about making a pizza and refers to pepperoni and calzones. This one feels like it was included as a joke. Another “hit,” per Spotify, Get it On, just repeats the same line over and over.

I feel dumber having listened to this

Not for me. 2/10

Nope nope nope

Did not care to listen

Is this a joke? Sorry.. I just don’t get it. The lyrics are awful and the production makes it hard to listen to.. overcompressed, way too much treble. Awful.

Extremely generic, extremely unoriginal, boring and bad. It’s got that problem where Europeans try to write in English, but their understanding of the connotations of certain words or phrases is off, so it really comes out sounding very amateurish, like a toddler trying to write a song. Add to that a teenaged sense of edge and danger, and we get some of the most gutless sounding punk rock I’ve ever heard. Not only are the lyrics extremely poorly written, the music is so deeply bland. It is by the book punk rock. Just total cookie cutter. No attempt to experiment or create anything, just repetition of well trod ground. The worst part of it is I know there’s a huge market for it. Dudes who think skeletons and the word ‘fuck’ are as cool as it gets, and there’s no need to examine anything further. There’s nothing actually ‘punk’ about this record, just a facade of it. It’s kind of like if the Disney channel made a DCOM called Punk Rock Musical. It’s just so bad and cringe and I understand why Bam Margera likes them so much.

Reminds me of like stuff they would play on Viva La Bam. Skater punk with lots of bad words to be cool. Certainly elements of things I like but not put together in a way I can get down with. Plus that band name is rough, very teenage-boy-pushing-boundaries. I know they’re like Norwegian but still. Honestly, was leaning 2 stars, but learning more about them and re-listening to Rendezvous With Anus, I talked myself down a bit.

Turbonegro's lyrics often attack political correctness, holy fck...brave... meikä antaa yhden tähden...snowflaikki heh... kun ei tykkää.... pricne of the rodeo (homoanalsex reference)

This might make sense on a cassette. But in a different place time and music system than mine. As the song by this band says "all my friends are dead" and "FTW" and "don't say motherfucker motherfucker" sum up their developmental advancement and contribution to the art.

This is all the usual cliches played out, I'm grateful there wasn't a song about snot. Completely unimaginative and straight out boring, there is nothing to do with greatness on this thing and I'm tired of these ridiculous entries to this process. There is a great Sopranos episode where Adriana talks Chris into managing and recording an awful band called Visiting Day. They have a song called Defiler, with lyrics such as "get out of our way, and dont be so gay, we're coming to defile, defile you". Listen Elizabeth Strout fans, if I was given a choice on the purgatory loop jukebox between that and whatever this utter rubbish is supposed to be, I'm going for "we're coming to defile, defile you"..

What the fuck is this doing on the list?

Not great as a rock/glam/punk album, and lost me with the “muther***£r” over and over again with “Rock Against Ass” track. Good artists don’t have to cuss their way to respect. Dylan, Beatles, Stones etc didn’t have to cuss to be great.

Played two songs and then turned it off. Wasn’t into it

This was embarrassing

Hahahahahahahahahaha this is fucking dreadful.

It is very one note and doesn't sustain its 47 minute runtime. It's generic at its best, but often it's just plain annoying for my ears. Were it up to me, it probably gets thrown in the recycle bin.

This was insufferable. They even tarnished David Bowie 😢

Why is this on here?

Amateur hour

Yikes!!! Hard to finish

Once again I have to wonder what the authors of 1001 were smoking when they compiled this list. Although they're Norwegian they sound like your average American metal group from the 90s. Inane lyrics and cliched guitar riffs. I think I would prefer Norwegian Death Metal to this.

Norwegian glam. I’ve heard it all. As empty as a North Sea facing fjord?

This album is garbage. Why is it on this list?

This is a joke, right? A very bad joke...

Haha, wat een rommel! Sorry voor mogelijke liefhebbers 🙂.

This was a perfectly fine and fun record but I definitely wouldn't consider it as one of the greatest of all time. Some of the songs would be alright on a lesser Tony Hawk game (one of the ones after Pro Skater)

I... didn't hate the music? As long as you don't listen to close. Because the closer you listen the worse it gets. I'm lookin' at you, "Rock Against Ass," "Don't Say Motherfucker, Motherfucker," and "Good Head." A lot of it is cringe-i-ly juvenile upon closer inspection. I don't get these dudes. The album cover looks like something from a metal band. They describe themselves as "deathpunk." They are neither of these things. Maybe on other albums? Then I looked up pictures. Hahahahahahaahahahahahaha... whew let me catch my breath... hahahahahahaaha. Happy-Tom's (cause that's his name) sailor schtick! But it's unfair to just target Happy-Tom, because the whole band's look is... somethin'. And the denim phase! I was feeling like giving them a generous 2 before finding out more about them and their aesthetic.

Lyrics are trash. 1 to 1.25

This album started out sounding like a bunch of college dudes who used their student loan money to buy ESP guitars, Marshall stacks, and an array of pedals. Then it just went down from there. They lost me with Rendezvous with Anus, if not even before. Beginning to question Dimery’s album selection.

This whole album confused me, I listened to a few songs but they all blended into one and my ears started to protest so I gave up.

not for me

Listened to one song. Just metal. Trash.

"They were advised that a band named Nazipenis would never sell records, so they chose Turbonegro as a more consumer-friendly choice." So it's like cheesy, punk skewed cock rock from Norway a decade too late? This sucks.

Bunch of power chords and screaming. Not very impressed.

What a tragedy

Abjectly beige. The passionless delivery of "Do anything you wanna do" seals the deal. The line with the title in it is similarly empty, but at least there's the lampshading inherent to "dude". The single version of the rodeo tune is strictly better, but listening to it twice was not worth the time.
