We’re fragments of fiction!!! This was really up my alley. I hadn’t heard any of this and will revisit. I love that the songs all sound different and add to the overall listening experience. I want to say that it’s “proggy” but I don’t really know what that means. The musicians are talented. Thank you.

Beck
5/5
Hard to follow up to the very popular Maiden album. I suspect this one might not catch as much. This is one of my fav albums by this artist. I’ve listened to it a hundred times and there might be a spectrum of “growing on you” with repeated listenings. I had pirated a leak of it back in 2005 and listened to it a lot. When the final album dropped, it was enhanced by all sorts of production accents and small tweaks to the mix. Beck is good at finding cool sounding combinations of sounds and words (I love when he says “cliche wasted hate taste tested in Hell Yess). You may recognize the artwork on the album; it was done by winnipegger Marcel Dzama who also did the art for Reconstruction Site by the Weakerthans just a couple of years prior.
Musically, I think beck is at his best here imo. I really like when he goes the pop/rock route and this album has something for everyone. A lot of the songs are danceable. Epro has a badass riff that’s fun to jam along to. A good amount of nonsense lyrics which I respect beck for. I really like the song Missing because it is lovingly melancholy, something that Beck can do very well in previous records like Sea Change. I have a feeling we will be seeing a lot more beck on this list!!

The Rolling Stones
2/5
The Rolling Stones' "Exile On Main Street" has long been hailed as a classic rock album, but upon closer examination, it falls short of the lofty praise it often receives. Released in 1972, this double LP is often revered for its raw energy and supposed authenticity, but unfortunately, it fails to deliver a cohesive and memorable listening experience.
One of the major drawbacks of "Exile On Main Street" is its lack of focus. With 18 tracks spanning various genres such as rock, blues, country, and gospel, the album feels disjointed and unfocused. While variety can be a strength, in this case, it becomes a weakness as the songs struggle to form a coherent whole. The lack of a clear direction or thematic consistency leaves the listener feeling disconnected and unsure of what the album is trying to achieve.
Additionally, the production quality of "Exile On Main Street" has often been praised for its rawness and lo-fi aesthetic. However, the poor production values only serve to undermine the potential impact of the songs. The muddy mix and overall lack of clarity detract from the musicianship and make it difficult to fully appreciate the intricate details and nuances of the performances. It feels like a missed opportunity to fully showcase the talents of the band.
While there are a few standout tracks like "Rocks Off" and "Tumbling Dice," much of the album falls into a repetitive and uninspired pattern. The songwriting often lacks depth and originality, resulting in forgettable melodies and generic lyrics. Even Mick Jagger's usually charismatic vocals seem lackluster and uninspired throughout much of the record.
Furthermore, "Exile On Main Street" suffers from pacing issues. The length of the album, combined with the lack of strong hooks and memorable moments, makes it feel like a slog to get through. Tracks blend together in a monotonous haze, and the album becomes a background noise rather than a captivating musical experience. It fails to hold the listener's attention and lacks the dynamic shifts and surprises that make a great album truly engaging.
In conclusion, while "Exile On Main Street" may have achieved iconic status within the rock music canon, it ultimately falls short of its reputation. The lack of focus, poor production quality, and repetitive nature of the songs make it a forgettable and uninspiring listening experience. While it may hold nostalgic value for die-hard Rolling Stones fans, it fails to stand the test of time and does not live up to the grandiose claims made about its greatness. It is a mediocre effort from a band capable of so much more.

Black Sabbath

I’ve never heard this record before. It reminds me of satanic panic. First song, self title and the namesake of the band, it’s got a real sinister sound to it.
The Wizard is a lot more fun and almost has some precursor elements of War Pigs in the chord progression.
Some real good jams. Ozzy’s vocal layering kind of sounds like a goblin sometimes. I saw him perform once and he was reading his songs on the teleprompter. We are so used to hearing the same old stuff (two songs) by this band but you forget that the guy can sing!! Some awesome noodling too honestly
Dusty Springfield
3/5
She’s so cool. I guess there was a lot of soul music coming out of Memphis at that time. Son of a Preacher man has been in a lot of stuff like a Dr. Pepper commercial and also on the Pulp Fiction soundtrack. This isn’t going on my gym playlist but I would eat a grilled cheese and bowl of Campbell’s tomato while listening in the future.
Violent Femmes
3/5
I’ve heard this before. It’s aight, kinda fun. Blister in the son is pretty easy to play on guitar!!
Bobby Womack
3/5
I liked Bobby’s energy and his delivery in some songs, like If You Think You’re Lonely Now. Melodrama I find very funny sometimes and I respect. I can’t help but think there was a fair amount of cocaine involved with the making of this record. Thank you Mr. Womack for gifting us with your art
U2
5/5
C’mon man give these guys a break. These tracks rule. I kinda love how contrived they are lol.
Some history: I saw this band in 2004, we drove to Minneapolis with friends and my brother bought us beer because he was the only one who was 21. Dashboard Confessional opened. U2 played Vertigo once during the set and AGAIN for encore! no Mysterious Wayz? they did us dirty.
I genuinely enjoy Edge’s playing (even though it’s a bit delayed). I love to find contextual things in life so I can sing “even better than the real thing!”. I [illegitimately] used One in a scene of a movie that I made years ago and it never got copyright flagged bc it was only the part where he screams “LOVE IS A TEMPLE”. I have some memories tied to a lot of these songs so they’re good imo

Kanye West

Not all bangers. Comparing this to other rap records at the time was night and day. Kanye makes a point of steering away from the thug shit with a bit more vibrancy. The secret is that he hacks up old songs and pitch shifts the vocals!! Kanye also has an eye/ear for what is cool at the time and capitalizes on it. I would argue that most of his success has rode on the backs of his features, licensing, and ripping off other artists. I did listen to this album a lot in my formative years though!!
Primal Scream
3/5
The first song I had discovered couple of years ago and subsequently put it on other playlists. It sounds “not of” 1991 but the rest of the tracks do as Slip Inside This House starts up with the drum machine loops. Boom, it’s summertime, you’re playing Sega Genesis in your parents basement. Streets of Rage II. Why does the album open with a gospel song and then the rest is club Jamz dancemix ‘91? There are some tracks where the band finally does Come Together and there is a bit more uplifting music with singing and choir. Loaded is a pretty fun instrumental. You could probably put this album on as background music at a party if you didn’t want anyone to be distracted from conversation. Damaged is a straight up country song. Lots of musical range here and it kind of reminds me of MGMT a bit. I wonder if that band listened to Primal Screamadelica? I guess the album has some bookend songs such as the opener and I’m Comin’ Down. The songs between are a bit of a trip and I guess that’s the idea!
The Jesus And Mary Chain
2/5
Did someone swap out my coffee for decaf this morning? I am not super angsty today, might try this again another time!!
I think I get it though!! Some decent songwriting overall. When you think back to Tuesday this week, at least we can all say we listened to Darklands, right?
Cornershop
3/5
I actually like the drums in the first song! Super simple with the double step. I just saw that Dan the Automator helped produce this and that’s pretty damn awesome.
I recognize brimful of asha I’m not sure what it’s from. It’s either from an episode of Scrubs or Need For Speed Underground. This is a worldly album, is that a sitar that I hear??? I really like the musicianship but could pass on some of the filler songs that have some noise and drones going on. The sound mix is very rad though. Might serve better if I was in a cloudy room staring at the walls listening to this on final. Good shi(t)p is a good jam. A cool and interesting cross section between Eastern and western cultures here. A little more tongue in cheek with the wacky tobbacky references. Didn’t expect to enjoy this as much as I did! Need a bosom buddy? Just pull out your .45!
Iron Maiden
4/5
We just hit the lotto today apparently!! Yeah this album is awesome. The speed and temp kick you in the pants right off the hop. Some great musicianship all around and Bruce’s voice is some of the best in the biz. I admit I haven’t heard this record. I know many iron maiden songs but less so for albums in their entirety. So this is blank slate for me sage for the title track and run to the hills. They have some awesome energy, a metal band but it’s not super heavy! Prisoner was stand out to me and might be my song on this record. 22 Acacia avenue was a long track that tells a story of charolette the concubine. A lot of the subject matter seems to be about murder, marauding, and other devilish things. Hallowed be thy name’s intro reminded me of some straight Halloween shit.

Some feel good rock songs in here. Can’t feel bad listening to any of this, it has positive tone and energy. Some really awesome guitar playing all around.
Led Zeppelin
4/5
I have never given this one a full listen through. I am familiar with Kashmir of course. I didn't realize Trampled Under Foot was a Zeppelin song! Robert Plant makes a lot of "WHUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!" sounds on this record and I think it might be his trademark. Also a trademark of Zepplin: beautiful guitar parts. They have some really great range in sound. One detail that I especially enjoyed was Bonham playing the absolute shit out of his drums for most of these tracks. It's timeless. It's one of a kind. I look forward to more Led Zeppelin records on this list!!
Kraftwerk
3/5
I rewrote this entire review after my morning listen. Some of this was kind of uncomfortable on first listen. I revisited in the evening and it is charming. I feel like the first track is the meat and potatoes of the album and the rest is just bonus DLC. As you know, it is cheesy.
This is travel music! It's experimental and so the structure is off-putting. A lot of bleeps, bloops, warbles, and voice mods. Mitternacht goes to a dark dark place (it's a drag and probably kills the inertia) before the final track that is more uplifting. Put this on during a long drive or when gaming and say it's not lit! Wouldn't it be great to sing Autobahn in a 23 minute session of earnest karaoke?
I adjusted this from a 2 to a 3!!!
Sisters Of Mercy
3/5
Never heard any of this and I will be honest, (I might go to hell for this) I kinda like it. I hope my pastor doesn’t read this review.
AC/DC
2/5
This band is obnoxiously overplayed. The lead singer sounds like your favourite farm animal. Somebody get this drummer a crossword puzzle or something. I think I am heavily bias on this one, sorry to say. It might be different if I didn't already hear all of these songs in Pepsi, Call of Duty, and restaurant commercials for the last 30 years.
Front man and guitar man are front and center here. They are really loud with attitudes. It's naughty but is also as family friendly as Disney or Mcdonald's.
Listening to this album is like studying a sectional cut of American "flip the bird" culture. Turn it up for the neighbours to hear, fuck em!
I can respect that this music is just made to be fun. You don't need to listen too hard to process it and the lyrics are tongue-in-cheek. It's hard to take serious and I think that counts for something!
Cat Stevens
4/5
This was a wholesome album. A lot of really heart warming and blissful songs here. It's impressive that this is over 50 years old! He was 22 when he made this. I remember liking Wild World as a kid. I was glad to see that in the rest of the songs on this album, the artist (call him Cat) is imparting life lessons to kids and younger folks (Into White and Father and Son). There is some bittersweetness here in the Tea that the Tillerman is drinking and I'm okay with saying that I'm glad that I listened today!
Ryan Adams
1/5
Don’t really know much about this artist. I know him because of his covers and not because of this original songs. I’ve heard his (Taylor swift’s) album 1989, and his cover of Wonderwall.
Not super into this album today. Might just be the genre…
A Tribe Called Quest
4/5
I am familiar with these guys but not this album. This is dope. I was expecting some basically written hip hop lyrics here (hey it’s tribe called quest and I’m here to say, we like to rap in the old school way). Was pleasantly surprised by the flow in these tracks. Some boombap drums take the lead, as they should, and the emcees get all of the credit. Rappers that gain their notoriety in Queens tend to be pretty killer and these guys are no exception. Worth a listen!!
I can't get away from sharing a bit of music trivia if you have read any of my reviews on this site! Something that is worth discussing when studying hip hop music is the artist's vocabulary. These guys aren't dumb-dumbs. I enjoy looking at this site sometimes to see where certain rap artists stack up with their vocabulary against other artists. Just like that fighting game Def Jam but with their pure lyrical content. These guys have 4,550-5,000 unique words in their discography which puts them in the same category as artists like Beastie Boys and Nas. Lots of funny observations to be made with this graph, like if you have a Lil in your name, you are pretty much doomed to be a rapper with a lower vocabulary (2750-3200 unique words).

The Clash
2/5
Going in deaf here. First impression: the album is 35 minutes long. There are 14 tracks and so these are gonna be rapid fire. The songs don’t overstay their welcome if I may write colloquially.
White Riot, I had to look up the lyrics as I was having trouble understanding. I thought he was saying “ride the butthole”. These guys are not the Butthole Surfers lol!! Maybe I am ethnocentric. The accents are endearing
You can definitely hear the influence that they have had on other punk bands that came decades later. The delivery is crass. Songs are a bit repetitive and missing clever song writing (they follow verse chorus verse chorus/ end mostly) would have liked to hear a bit more variation. One song seemed to have some off-beats to it and reminded me a bit of reggae or ska.
I don’t have any strong memories tied to any of this other than making me wish I was listening to Rancid or NOFX. Ready for the next album
Gorillaz
4/5
Thank the lord for these California Raisins.
The Specials
3/5
Busy day! Gave a quick listen. Pretty fun album but not sure if I’ll revisit soon.
Brian Eno
4/5
I first listened to this when I was ~18 years old when a friend was showing me influential artists (including Roxy Music). I was not into Brian Eno on first listen. Boring Windows ME music.
The evolution of the Ipod and advent of Spotify and music streaming has been a pretty amazing one. I would not have thought of ever putting this on in my younger years and rather, felt like Eno was taking up valuable space on my hard drive.
I listen to this now as a 36 year old with an office job in a [psychiatry] office. I write reports all day and I listen to this exact type of music to focus my attention. I don't know how, but it will take my jumbled and turbulent brain waves and flatten them out like static guard. It's rad how we can use music as a tool to enrich our lives in so many ways.
It's also pretty blissful and relaxing. If you go to a nice spa, they are playing stuff like this. While I wouldn't want to put this on before I get amped up for a run through the a park or forest (downtempo), I do know that there is now space for something like this in my preferences.
k.d. lang

A very nice voice. I have seen this artist live before.
It’s not quite an aversion for me as I can find things to appreciate. However I think it’s just not for me!
Dr. John
2/5
Ahhhhhh this was a delirium.
The Chemical Brothers
4/5
This is pretty hype. I like it.
In my opinion, for this type of music, the closer it comes to the Mortal Kombat Motion Picture Soundtrack the better.
Shuggie Otis
2/5
Yea, not bad!
I was vibing to the first half of this but it was mostly forgettable!!!
a-ha
2/5
I probably would have liked this if I listened to it as a baby. My parents didn’t have the cassette and they apparently didn’t want to play any of this band’s music on the radio other than Take On Me.
Perhaps an under rated band???
Kendrick Lamar
4/5
I love so many parts of this album. I think the first time I heard Kendrick was when I was sent the music video for Swimming Pools. Cool track but I think I like some of the other songs better from this album. The bass and instrumental on Sherane is tight. It’s small, but I like the trappy snare in Bitch, Don’t Kill My Vibe. Kendrick’s story is in the periphery of the gangsta shit. I realize that he is coming out of Compton but this album is purposely juvenile. The skits are part of the overall vibe and experience of the album but I think they are skippable after hearing them.
Fav track is Backseat Freestyle because it’s RUDE. The track with Dr Dre, Compton has a BIG SOUND and reminds me of some of his old music from the 90s.
If it was up to me, I would have cut out some of the skits and perhaps a couple of slower songs (Real). I would have added a couple of Kendrick’s older songs from Section 80. I listened to these two albums a lot together and I find that they have a synergy but that’s just my own experience and perspective with them.
R.E.M.

WTF is happening in this album artwork. Am I seeing a glitch??? Is this a classified album?
I liked the album fine. Some decent Americana and classic songs served up here.
Gene Clark
3/5
Pleasantly surprised by this artist whose career was marred with far of flying.
Enjoyed overall but not sure if I’ll double back to listen to much of this.
No other is pretty great
Jefferson Airplane
3/5
Some good classics on this album. White rabbit is good!! I really like the little jam that is Embryonic Journey
Stan Getz
4/5
Enjoyed this for some background music today. I found the music uplifting and it made me wish I was on vacation!!
Skepta
3/5
First impression, the beats are pretty cool. The lyrics are a bit basic, like someone went on rhymezone and ran words through to exhaust the simplistic rhymes. Crime Riddem is like this and I TRIED to like it. I find some of the patterns in song writing is quite generic here… chippindale, male, cell, and got me biting all of my fingernails“ 💀
I have not heard of this artist. I personally think that Apple Music was ON ONE for saying this was the best album of 2016. I will not say who I thought was better.
Not that this has any bearing on the quality of the music… but Skepta has all of these albums out and sadly he is not on my rapper’s vocabulary graph… https://pudding.cool/projects/vocabulary/index.html
“I was in da club and a guy was mean mugging me. He made me spill my drink so we had an altercation”. The beat is lit, but he is not sure what to write the song about so he becomes British Freddie Gibbs. Personally tired of hearing more stories about adverse scenarios in the bar.
I liked Man and It Ain’t Safe the best. I guess I am now a bit familiar with Skepta. Not sure if better or worse, but cool to be exposed to another British rap artist to join the likes of The Streets and Dizzee Rascal.
Duran Duran

Eels

I was not a fan of all of the songs on this record. Many of the songs are cut from the cloth of great 90s alternative and I enjoyed it for that. Lots of dynamic and neat multi instrumental parts. I was not into this on initial listen but it has benefited from the virtue of being a Friday album. I like Rags to Rags the best on this album I think. Reminds me of Beck or even Ben Folds Five at times with the piano parts.
Lynyrd Skynyrd
4/5
These guys, the music that they play, it’s salt of the earth.
Tuesdays gone and FREEBIRD kick ass but the whole album is a safe pick for any BBQ, swim meet, commute to work, or etc.
Fiona Apple
3/5
Fiona Apple is kind of badass, right? Her voice is super smooth. Shadowboxer is a rad song, she's like a lounge singer! Her voice + piano takes center stage in her music. I read her bio and it is sad. Good art rarely comes from a nice place.
Impressive for a first album and overall I enjoyed the flow of the music.
Klaxons

It’s cheese 🧀 😬
Isaac Hayes
3/5
This wasn’t bad! Listened to it a couple of times over the weekend. Some of it is pretty epic, like a sweeping score to Shaft. Some other parts, he rambles for a long long time. Musically it’s pretty awesome though. Serves as good background or driving music!! Chocolate salty balls!
Judas Priest
3/5
Enjoyed this overall…. I knew breaking the law from watching beavis and butthead off of an old VHS in the 90s. Living after midnight is fun!! An obvious comparison to his music is be the "cousin" of Iron Maiden, lots of similarities to their sound. Significantly less shredding and noodling than Maiden but still some great leads and fun melodies.
Run-D.M.C.
2/5
You be Illin’ vs Tricky. Can you tell the difference? I’m sadly not feeling this one too much today. Falling a bit flat but I wish I could appreciate their hip hops a bit more. I can’t tell if it’s their writing pattern or the boombaps here. It might have also been the raspberries blown on Hit It Run. I know these guys are like protorappers so I gotta respect it. It is also a rapping style that has been parodied so many times that it’s like a meme. Maybe I’ll try it again another day! Maybe now that I’ve heard it once, I can buy their tee shirt from H&M.
Deep Purple
3/5
A couple of classic songs on here as well as some long as hell jams. It's a good sampler of what it might be like to be at a concert for Deep Purp. Would be great to watch this as a film to see the guys play in their prime!
Beatles
3/5
Really nice! Some good covers but these guys were a also supergroup from the start. I like their bluesy songs the most
Madonna
3/5
The two opening tracks are bangers. Cool to hear Prince on Love Song, never heard this full album before from front to back. Cherish is adorable.
Some of these songs are a bit longer than they need to be; I’m sure there’s radio edits (which I have heard for as long as I can remember). This pop music is ubiquitous. Dear Jessie’s lyrics are a bit of a trip but there are some cool layers in this song. Keep it Together has some rad guitar parts. I like when she says the thing about the computer in Act of Contrition
Pink Floyd
4/5
Enjoyed listening to this. These guys are super cinematic; it's part of their mystique. Some really crazy effects and synth. Welcome to the Machine is overall a good song but it really goes to some unpredictable places. Have a Cigar is a really fucking cool song and I haven't heard it as much as some of the other tracks by this band. Listened to the album a couple of times and will revisit
The Monks
2/5
I’m good on most of this one but then I got to the end of the bonus tracks and now it’s funny to me. Some of the songwriting is kind of low effort and then some of it is novel. Consistently MONKS.
The Roots
4/5
Great hip hop album and they are also talented musicians. The songs are awesome, Seed 2.0 is a classic and my fav but Quills is also dope
Milton Nascimento
4/5
Really enjoyed this. Was super chill. Very awesome grooves. It’s like going to a cool restaurant and they have 100 things on the menu. I’ll have to revisit
Sarah Vaughan
1/5
Not feeling it; she has a nice voice though. The audio quality is so clear for a recording in 1957. I have to wonder if my grandparents or their parents listened to this record? I will never know.
TV On The Radio
4/5
This is a great album. Some really cool tracks here with a big range in what their music sounds like. DLZ is still pretty awesome, a perfect soundtrack for when Walter White follows a meth dealer out of Home Depot to threaten him with a “stay out of my territory”. I wish Wolf Like Me was on this album as it’s probably my fav song by them. Saw them play the ‘Burt in 09 and I’m glad I did!!
Nas
5/5
This might be the perfect rap album. I am glad to see it after some of the other hip hop records as of late. This record is strong throughout and one hell of a debut album. It’s 40 minutes long so it is over before you know it. The skits are minimal. The drums and samples are very rad and pretty much archetypical to NY hiphop. Good times
Wild Beasts
3/5
Never heard of this. I enjoyed it overall. There was quite a few groovy bridges/transitions between the parts of the songs that were really exciting and kept me interested. It felt like a bit of a musical experimentation as it was a touch avant-garde with the instrumentation, production, and especially the vocals.

My fat fingers hit 4 yesterday instead of 3. Wish there was an “are you sure?”Prompt. Anyway: This album is okay. I like the little red corvette song. Prince is a great musician and has an iconic voice. His guitar solos and bass lines are fun. Some of his lyrics in this album, and his attitude, cleared my sinuses. He is sassy.
That said, there was some odd production decisions here. Some of the songs jam on and on with not much direction. Sometimes the listener is drawn to hear a woman yelling “Help me!!”, some very suggestive moaning, a child laughing, or an elephant noise. These small bits were obviously added after the fact and Prince probably put his foot down hard on these odd creative choices. All the critics love U in New York has Prince making a call over two-way radio about masturbating. Over and out!
David Bowie
3/5
This is an interesting one. Bowie was pretty hip for putting this out right before his passing. I liked the inclusion of the sax in some of the songs. The drums were kinda neat and I liked the synth in Blackstar. I wasn’t expecting Bowie to be singing about his cock in that one song and some of the other swearing he did. It was no Ziggy Stardust but also I respect that this was at the end of his career and he should get to work on what he wants!! During this era of Bowie, Arcade Fire also had him sing in Reflektor, and I was reminded of that track while I listened to some of this.
Elton John

This is a classic. I enjoyed it. I was singing it on Saturday, Saturday, Saturday!

Primal Scream
3/5
Cool mix of music. Not sure which primal scream I liked more. This one is based off of a movie that seems to be very popular among musicians. I’ll have to watch it.
Kid Rock
2/5
This has no reason for existing. I don’t get it. There is no purpose. I can’t believe this is on the list and also that it sold 15 million copies and went diamond. Kid rock now plays at county fairs and cancels shows for poor turnout (but blames covid policy to drum up the perfect demographic). I feel like he is just going for shock value mostly. He doesn’t have much to say other than “drink my beer and smoke my smoke”. His legacy is waging wars on marketing campaigns. His rapping is not very creative and kind of weak.
I will admit that I felt a tingle when I heard the record scratching in bawitaba. Is that… nu metal? Eminem’s verse in Fuck Off was cool. Instrumentals were okay and there is a range/blend of genres in this album. I am being charitable, would have rather listened to a lot of other stuff today.
My friend told me that Kid Rock was a character in the animated film Osmosis Jones. I looked it up and it is true…"Cool, Daddy Cool" features both Kid Rock and his late hype man and rapper Joe C., and the song appears during a scene where Osmosis Jones goes to what appears to be a club with exotic dancers. Rock is actually portrayed as a performer during the scene, and there's a sign on the wall of the club that says "Kidney Rock," which is obviously a play on the musician's name. But Rock's parts of the song are, er, a bit inappropriate for a kids movie.
"Young ladies, young ladies / I like 'em underage, see / Some say that's statutory," Rock says [via Genius (https://genius.com/Kid-rock-cool-daddy-cool-lyrics)], before Joe C. chimes in with "But I say it's mandatory."

This is a solid album. The drums and bass in Didn't Cha Know is sooooo good. It reminds me of a song by Logic that is a guilty pleasure. My Life has some cool strings in it. The lyrics in ...& On is really great songwriting, the bridge mixes the sound up quite a bit.

4/5
Enjoyed this overall. Many tracks I have heard before but never in the succession of the full (greyed out) album. Biggie's delivery is so good.

Some cool jams in the start of this record followed by some truly trippy and longform tracks. Another album that tries tries to emulate some kind of psychedelic experience. Reminded me of Dr. John's Gris Gris that we listened to a couple of months back.

5/5
Love this shit. Chester has such a cool voice. This music was so exciting when I first heard it. It felt like it was made for an angsty teen and that was me.
The layering of the different instruments and tracks is absolutely over-produced. They are among the nu metal bands that has a DJ to add in synthetic sounds like drums and other flourishes. It all sounds very artificial. But awesome. I have unfortunately never seen them live before and not sure what quality of show they can produce in-person. Sad about what happened to Chester, but I still like Mike Shinoda quite a lot as a producer and artist.

Weather Report

Green Day
4/5
Pretty much every song on this was squeezed dry on every radio station. I got tired of hearing them. If you listen to this with fresh ears, it might be their most accessible album. There is an irony in these successful musicians commentary on this capitalist hell while reaping all that they see as terrible in the world. What we end up with is something that is actually pretty pulpy. It is sold as a concept album but there isn't much indicating that other than the title track.
Public Enemy
3/5
Chuck has decent delivery for this old school style of rap. Flava is flava. One song I skipped because I heard "Yea boiiiiii" one too many times. There is so much music here it feels like they really left it all in. I gotta respect their craft here even though Flav is pretty much just a hype man.

Haven't heard this album in like 20 years... It's cool
R.E.M.
3/5
Hey man, I couldn't record an album half as good as this. I'm not sure why there is a subtle aversion to REM. Maybe I heard ITEOTWAWKIAIFF (It's The End of The World As We Know It And I Feel Fine) one too many times?
Goldie
3/5
There's a lot of blastbeat drums in this, damn. I thought this was gonna be some kind of "golden oldie" Nanci Griffith type album and was not expecting the jungle clinic.
The Stone Roses
4/5
This gets kinda trippy in some spots. Liked it!
Blue Cheer
3/5
Pretty cool
Nanci Griffith

Steven Tyler makes a pterodactyl sound in Monkey On My Back.
Dennis Wilson
3/5
Pretty nice. Good music, some of it got real melancholy which I don't mind.
Throwing Muses
2/5
Some okay stuff but a bit frenetic in the wrong ways for me. I thought that it sounded a bit loose but as the album progressed, I agree that the musicians knew what they were doing. Maybe a 2.5 for only being available via cassette tape from 1998
Queens of the Stone Age
4/5
Classic album. Some really cool guitar riffs and I dig the melodies in their choruses. Some if it is a bit droney and hypnotic which I guess is what "stoner" means?
Elvis Presley
3/5
Classic.
Jimi Hendrix
4/5
I've been listening to John Mayer cover these songs for years.
Justin Timberlake
3/5
Some good musicianship here. JT is pretty much doing his impression Michael Jackson here. Last handful of songs could have been cut from the album. The last song is sooooo sappy lol
Röyksopp
4/5
I like this one. Really good
Astor Piazzolla
3/5
Lovely
Jane's Addiction
2/5
I tried to like it. Something about the guy’s voice….
Stephen Stills
3/5
Not my fav but not awful.
The Offspring
5/5
I listened to this a lot at my cousin's house while playing Donkey Kong Country with Orange Crush and Old Dutch. I still think he's saying "DONKEY KONG... EVERY DAY" in Genocide. No skipz
The Jesus And Mary Chain
2/5
Might be slightly better than the last album that came up in 2023 but not by a big margin. Not a fan
3/5
We've all been there right fellas?? LMAO j/k
Anyways, I like her voice and some of the slide guitar in this. I like how she really doubles down on the shoe metaphors in The Shoe Goes On The Other Foot Tonight. "I thought that she was going to air some dirty laundry but it ended up just being a song about shoes!"
Fela Kuti
3/5
Zombie oh Zombie!! Nigerian party music!! Pretty fun
John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers
3/5
Nice blues rock. This guy Eric Clapton sure made a lot of music over the years!! Some tasty licks and noodling
The Black Crowes

Hahhhh! Hahhhh ta hanna naaaah! Oh yeah!
These guys are the real deal eh? Kinda reminds me of a more country Aerosmith.
The Replacements
4/5
GARY'S GOT A BONER! This was pretty good.
PJ Harvey
3/5
Not bad. The mix is weird but also sounds like grungey indy music from the 90s. This is also the fourth album by PJ on this list so far??
The Saints
3/5
It's dynamic alright and okay enough.
David Bowie
3/5
Not bad, pretty good!
Carpenters
3/5
It's cute as hell
Grizzly Bear
4/5
Some really great tracks on this album and also a few folk-indy that don't really do it for me. I remember listening to this many years ago and probably haven't touched this album in 15 years. I'll round up to a 4
Bauhaus
3/5
This wasn't that bad... they switched up their style a bit throughout the album. Lead singer kind of sounded like the guy from B52s and I kept wanting to hear him say "So hurry up and bring your JUKEBOX MONEY!".
Peter Gabriel
3/5
Enjoyed this one! Gets a bit heavier than expected.
Anita Baker
2/5
Not offensive but just fine I guess
Waylon Jennings
2/5
It didn’t all sound the same! Not my fav type of music
Maxwell

Frank black was always the highlight of the Pixies. This still holds true!
Peter Tosh

Ketchy shuby is a live changing song that has shaken the very foundations of what music is for me.
Afrika Bambaataa
3/5
I guess deep down, we are all renegades of our time and age. Poppinsockinrockinwithasideofhiphop!
The Modern Lovers
2/5
I would be disappointed if I bought this album in 1976 on a whim
Sonic Youth
2/5
Not my fav
TLC
2/5
Not a whole lot of variation here. At the end of the day, teen girls need hip hop too!
Ministry
4/5
Bless this noisy mess
Orbital
4/5
I really like Orbital and this type of sound in general. There is some nostalgia in this for me. Helped me keep focus while driving today!
Rahul Dev Burman

I'm sure there are tons of classics here, like Aaina Wohi Rehta Hai. Should I watch the movie?????
