Reviews (page 3 of 7)
Shades of both the Ramones and the Hives in this glammy Norwegian band. Crude but a lot of fun.
rad
It goes on and on with a fat and fast sound, a great pleasure to listen to.
4-
Apparently I like death punk. Who knew?
Childish but good punk
This album features some fascinating lyrical choices, such as: “Merging Zeus and Spartacus In ren-ren-ren-ren-rendezvous with anus” Nonetheless, if you ignore the lyrics you get some pretty cool rock to listen to in the background. Should it be an album to listen to before you die, perhaps not… Did I have a fun time listening to it? Yes. Shockingly….. tempted to give it a 3.5 … it feels wrong to round it up to 4 and yet,,,,,,,,,,,,, I’m going to
Cool, but not immediately attention-grabbing. Any one of these songs would fit in well on pretty much any of my playlists, but I don't think anyone would feel the need to search out who the artist was. Very good, but not great. I will listen to their other stuff when I get a chance though.
Initially I wasn't sure what this album was in the top 1001 albums, especially as I'd never heard of the band before today and assumed that they were only included because they're Norwegian. But the album is solid rock and is actually quite good.
I had never heard this record before. In general punk isn’t my favorite genre, but I love top-tier punk when I listen to it in the right setting. I just so happened to listen to this in the gym and it was awesome. I love the guitar tones and musicianship on this album. The guitars sound great and there’s more solos than expected on a punk record. There are hints of early Weezer in several songs (Rock Against Ass is a good example). Lots of melody for punk. Loved it
First listen: I love these guys. Garage rock / punk. Very fun.
That was fun to listen, although I think the album started out really strong with the first song, then none of the other ones really lived up to it
Didn’t think I would like this one at first but turns out I did. Definitely punk but with some metal guitar tones. Some of the guitar riffs and solos are reminiscent of KISS and I even caught a whiff of some Mötorhead vibes on occasion. For sure not all-ages appropriate 😂
Almost a 5! Great energy and an honest presentation.
Really cool energetic punk rock!
Good shit. B
Solid as fuck rock band. Objectively good. It’s not gonna change your whole life or anything, but it definitely falls under the “good shit” banner. Think Motörhead or Lucero without the twang.
Made me smile
This album fucking ROCKED. As an Electric Callboy fan, I can totally see how these guys blazed the path for them. Great production, full sound and blazing guitars. Favorite tracks: Age of Pamparius, Monkey on Your Back
Definitely in my ballpark.
Great new discovery! Gives off some Rollins and Offspring vibes with a mix of humor and high energy songs.
AJ: 🤘🏻 🍕
This is what plays in the brain of a child when you say the term heavy metal and honestly that's sort of super endearing lol. Lost one star because the name made me think this would be an early all-black hardcore punk band and it was disappointing finding that wasn't the case
Well that was brash, loud and in your face. It was also infectiously catchy and I found myself enjoying it a lot more than I would have expected to
Never heard of them, but they are definitely entering my rotation. This album was exactly what I needed yesterday.
Never listened to Turbonegro before this. Pretty good Punk Rock. Not as extreme as I expected.
This is the type of thing that is perfect on the list. It's not a well-known album, but it's truly fun from the top to bottom of the tracklist. It's not perfect, but it's really enjoyable.
This is a gem I'd never heard of.
I've met a few of the Turbojugend at rock festivals in Europe, and I say this with love - they were some of the biggest scumbags I ever met. Great music though! A mash-up of the Stooges, the Hives and the so-dumb-it's-fun brawling punk of the Dictators. The song titles are some of the best encountered yet.
nice rock/punk
Never heard of this band but I really liked the blend of post-punk and semi-metal rock and roll. The various guitar solos were the highlight for me.
Nice finding!
they definitely get a good 4 solely based on the song titles
I hadn’t thought about these guys in 20 years, and I suppose I never face them a chance back in the day. This is a really solid album, though. Punk rock with a fair amount of hard rock thrown in.
Straight shot of adrenaline for much of the album! Stays true to punk roots while adding wit and musicality.
I liked this one! Never heard of this band before but they were good.
Nice
Guitar riffs were great. A very enjoyable listen.
Immensely immature, but incredibly entertaining.
Not my first time listening to Turbonegro. It's very cheery punk if you could call it that. Maybe it's more glam rock. Apocalypse Dudes is a fun album.
A little schticky at times, but on the whole, their style of rock n roll is irresistible.
Good, straight forward rock and/or roll. There's really nothing groundbreaking about it. It sounds like the vast majority of early 90s rock. I can see how they might have been an influence to the pop punk bands of the early '00s. It's still fun, rockin' music and I'd for sure listen again.
This album rocks! Very first song I knew this album would be killer. This reminds me of drinking beer, watching jackass as a teenager, and shredding anything on wheels.
A lot more fun than I expected, 4/5 stars
fast and dark
Strong 8 to light 9.
Interesting background, +1 star for St.Pauli, listenable music.
How do you not love a band with a song "rock against ass", "don't say motherfucker, motherfucker" and " rendezvous with anus" all in a row!? This album is perfect teenage boy rediculousness. It's high energy, in your face fun. It definitely makes me want to go get into shenanigans.
Awesome high energy hard rock. Really enjoyed while at the gym.
Really cool
Weird lyrics but cool riffs
Punk, glam, and r&r. Went down the rabbit hole to try and figure out if Turbonegro was racist. My conclusion isnt that they're racist, but careless. Therefore I'll keep Prince of the Rodeo on my best of list. This is pure rock. Audibly said goddamn multiple times while listening.
I really loved this. It got boring at the end but it’s funny and gritty and I love it. i would listen to this whole album again.
Brings me right back to my childhood. Some of these songs have most definitely been used on Jackass. Great opening in The Age of Pamparius. Prince of the Rodeo is a BANGER. I fuck with this hard.
Hard rock.
Wonderfully stupid.
Such a good album with very interesting and danceable rythms and nice melodies: pretty incredible.
This is an enjoyable album. Well put together. Keeps going.
Surprisingly awesome.
What a whole bunch of fun!
Ok, this is dumb, but also very fun - gave it three playthroughs on different days to be sure it fell squarely on the "fun" side of the line. Spinal Tap does punk vibes. Fave track - "The Age of Pamparius" does an excellent job of being a pompous and portentous album opener, as is the custom. "Are You Ready (For Some Darkness)" also grabbed my attention. I think if I'd have been familiar with this at the time the nostalgia bump woulda taken this to 5....
Glam punk. Me ha gustado. Un 4.
4-5
A lot of fun. Just dirty, dirty rock n roll. I was kind of surprised to see this album here. I would not have expected it being included. Rock Against Ass has been a staple of playlists for me since I was about 16. It's not quite a 5, but it is a rock solid 4. Nothing to do with the album, but I hate that I now associate this band so much with Bam Margera. That dude was insufferable. Worst Jackass cast member hands down.
pretty good I liked the british-style punk songs in this album more than the metal songs but still, mostly enjoyable album 7/10
Never heard of this before, and didn’t read anything about it before listening. This was a bit of a surprise… the opening song about baking a motherfucking pizza tonight? With catchy music like this oh yeah… I have a motherfucking pizza! The rest of the album did not disappoint. Rodeos, sadism, monkeys, humiliation. Loads of anal references. Talented, highly entertaining and fun!
Tämä on niitä levyjä, joita kuunnellessa tulee hetken ajatelleeksi, että melkein kaikki muu musiikki on naurettavaa näpertelyä. "Selfdestructo bust" ja "Are you ready for some darkness" ovat mestariteoksia, ja biisimateriaali on muutenkin vahvaa.
seems gug
riotous fun, very silly, fast and aggressive
This is good. Need more of it!
This album was a lot more rocking than I thought it would be. I was pretty discouraged by it upon initially looking in to what it was when I saw it pop up, but I had a great time listening to it. It's out of my usual wheelhouse so there isn't a ton to say about it for me.
If you are looking for raw, dirty, sleazy, filthy, sticky, hard rock... you really can't get much better than this
Put this album on to ROCK. THE. FUCK. OUT!! It's high octane, head-banging, air guitar-ing goodness all around. Musically, it's powerful, pulse pumping stuff but lyrically there's this very self-deprecating and tongue in cheek underbelly to the seemingly raw and unapologetic cock rock veneer. I love that about it, these guys send up the egotistical self-absorbed rock star character so well. But most importantly of all, it's just so fucking FUN!
Glam punk. Me ha gustado. Un 4.
This was much better than I expected! I was expecting something darker and gothy, but it was hard hitting, punky and fun! Kind of a 70's hard rock Norwegian "Dictators" sound/vibe with a touch of glam. I quite enjoyed it!
As I said in chat... if I could make music it would sound like this. 4 stars for Norway's finest cultural export.
I do not know how to properly say this, but let's be frank: They are a punk act who knows what the fuck they are doing with this name. While I really enjoyed the album, the tone-deaf name (yes, I understand it was the past, but I know they haven't changed their name, so fuck off If you feel you need to defend it) and maybe a hair of bloat do bring it down to a 4.
This is so raucous and fun
More fun than I expected - will listen again, good noisy guitar grooves
Intro molto molto moooolto bella.
Mad decent, pretty fun
Pretty solid
Good, grungy fun. Production may be a bit anaemic - I bet these guys tear it up live!
Rocking! Loved them for years and good to see them on here.

Turbonegro was a stand out album for me for me. I had never heard of them and don't listen to punk or metal much but their brand of deathpunk I found ridiculously engaging and made me want to jump around and drive fast. In fairness, i listened to most of it while on the highway. But then reading about them, socially, so peculiar. First the bad, definitely racist. I know they say they are anti racist but I've always found the "we're sarcastically racist" argument as convincing as punching someone in the face and saying you were just being sarcastic to point out how dumb violence is - it's just not helpful. But the super homoerotic faux gay thing was fascinating. On the one hand, faux gay by presumably heterosexual people is in itself homophobic and appropriating. On the other hand, bringing loud and proud gay themes, lyrics and behaviors, even in a caricature way, into a super homophobic music scene worked at getting men in that scene to explore the idea that maybe gayness is cool and fine and acceptable. So, unlike the racism thing, it does seem they managed to use homophobia to counter homophobia and make several arguments against homophobia . So, it seem the net effect might actually be less homophobia in a homophobic sphere? Who knows. Anyway, super catchy, energetic, and original music. Not sure I'll listen again, still not my style, and the second half of the album lost steam, but I'll still give a 4 for the boldness, technique, and execution. And one of them actually owns a pizza shop they sing about. That helps too.
Never heard of this band, but it was fun! The lyrics are not the best, but the music is rocking and it sounds like they are having fun with it and not taking it too seriously. Production sounds great too.
High energy rock & roll with occasionally ridiculous lyrics. It was fun, I enjoyed listening to it, but I probably won't listen to it again. I'm rounding this up to 4 stars because Turbonegro is a surprisingly influential and popular band for some reason.
Noni vittu huh huh! Kaasu pohjaan ja täysillä seinään tai jotain. Aivan älytön skandinaavirokkipläjäys! Hank Von Helvetehän kuoli viimevuoden lopulla joten muisteleminen on syytä aloittaa viimeistään nyt. Onhan tää törkee levy! Ai että! Taitaa olla koko yhtyeen paras tuotos. Miten täältä generaattorista nyt koko ajan tulee omia suosikkilevyjä? 4/5
Kaiken kaikkiaan 4/5
This was incredible. Never heard of them before but they have everything - cool riffs, high energy, driving beats, catchy tunes, funny lyrics. I bet this would be a great live show. Really makes it worth it when I get a album like this from this list.
p823. 1998. 4 stars Came cold to this, knew nothing about the band or their music. Pleasantly surprised. Vaguely pretentious hybrid of punk and glam rock with ridiculous song titles, but doesn't take itself too seriously. All sorts of echoes in here - Ramones, The Who, Queen, Oasis. I liked this more than I was expecting to :)
Not what I was expecting
good punk 4
Liked it
Nie viel gehört, aber lustig!
Never heard of them before. Really solid album.
Sweet
Fun album. I discovered this band because of Wildboyz (Jackass spin-off) and never expected them to be on this list.
3.5
It’s very good. Like you took David Bowie, iggy pop, the ramones, black flag, and the whole glam/punk sound and put it in a Norwegian blender. Pretty sweet
Now this is a fun album, I was pleasantly surprised! Offspring meets Bowie on the stage with the Ramones? Giving it a 4 after several listens, but given age I might consider a 5!
only bored by one song! this album starts and it doesn't stop :)
A really good album with a terrific sound and a lot of metal feels to it. I’ll definitely listen to this again.
Norwegian glam punk??? hell yes
Super interesting album. This self-named genre Deathpunk is way more thought out that than the punk label would suggest. The arrangement is complex and is able to keep the listeners attention through over 40 minutes of music. The lyrics and the name of the band are transgressive, but again, very interesting.
Rating: 7/10 Best songs: The age of pamparius, Are you ready, Suffragette city
Wall of sound punk rock with meedly meedly guitar solos! What's not to like? Good mosh pit music. I will say that I felt like I had enough by about 5 or 6 songs in and started skipping around looking for something more interesting.
A really slammin' glam metal album! Turbonegro wears their influences on their sleeves in this one, which I appreciate.
better than i expected. can see where the hives got their idea from.
A great listen 👍🏼
Apocalypse Dudes!... Got nothin to Lose!!
Stevig album!
A solid 3.5 but I'm marking it up to 4 on the basis of their live show ass fireworks.
Had a fun time with this. Made me nostalgic for Viva La Bam.
Enjoyable but not something I would likely seek out. Sounds like something Tom would put on and I would be pleasantly surprised by liking. Slightly disappointed when I learned it was "Selfdestructo Bust" not "Selfdestructo Bus" and a song about the movie Speed
Biggest disappointment was that this was the first time I’ve ever heard this album - I like it! Certainly hear the influences of Black Flag and the Ramones. Good hard rock with some interesting/ridiculous lyrics. I’ll listen again.
Highlights: Age of Pamparius, SelfDestructo Bust, Probably, Zillion Dollar Sadist, Are You Ready, Prince of the Rodeo On the surface, you'd think TN is just vulgar, trashy, rude, offensive shock-rock or garage punk...If not for the well-crafted licks, aggressive progressions, and the exquisite execution of every track here. The lyrics are silly, and they don't even matter, they're just a distraction. It'd be a shame to miss out just because the track listing contains words. like "mfer" and "anus", because every track on Apocalypse Dudes is worthy of your attention.
Guitarrero e intenso.
Wildboyz, cool album and interesting themes punk as hell
Fun hair metal
Wild Boyz theme song is on here This album is super fun and high energy - need to come back to this for running/workout playlists.
Me gustó la canción “Prince of the Rodeo”.
Good shit, truly. I didn't know what to expect but the first few songs really hit. They have a good punk vibe but really non-punk lyrics and melodies.
I liked it more than I thought I would. A few songs I'd come back to, but I would definitely give the whole album another listen.
didn't know what to expect from the first track, this album was an unexpectedly **fun** listen, bowie cover of suffragette city is great
I listened to the original release (no bonus tracks). The music is rock/hard rock, and could be from the 1970s or 1980s based on the music. I was impressed with this Norwegian band’s English - they could be American based on their lyrics. Overall just good enough for three stars.
Creativity, adventurousness, and rebellion all in one album. Very basic, and entry-level. Nothing too complicated.
An odd little metal/punk hybrid
I am surprised I never heard this album or these guys. I figured someone in my friend group would have talked about them.
3/4
Liked it. Sounds like “Power Ranger” music.
The Age of Pamparius - 4/5 Selfdestructo Bust - 4/5 Get It On - 4/5 Rock Against Ass - 3/5 Don't Say Motherfucker, Motherfucker - 3/5 Rendezvous With Anus - 2/5 Zillion Dollar Sadist - 3/5 Prince of the Rodeo - 4/5 Back to Dungaree High - 3/5 Are You Ready (For Some Darkness) - 2/5 Monkey on Your Back - 2/5 Humiliation Street - 3/5 Good Head - 3/5 Average score: 3.1/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️ i'll be honest, i did not one lick of research before listening. so when i saw an album by a group called Turbonegro, i thought i would be listening to some sort of hip-hop project. i couldn't have been further off lol i'm not that big of a fan of glam rock to begin with, so i didn't find an album like this anything to write home about aside from a few tracks. the lyrics and innuendos in the song titles are a little raunchy and immature, but it's not all that shocking when you compare it to some other rock acts
Norwegian punk band with glam rock flavours. it's tight, angry and quite intense. Not sure you'd get away with that name these days lads.
This entire album just has the vibe of a random band I would catch at a festival and get drunk while absolutely throwing down to, definitely don't look at the lyrics too closely though Was also not expecting Bowie's Suffragette City as the last song of the album!
Tääki aika tasapaksua rätinää. Pari ihan ok parempaa biisiä joukossa
Ihan kivaa autotalliräminää, mutta vähän ehkä jää piippuun verrattuna vaikka Hellakoptereihin ja muihin genren airueisiin. Oikein mielelläni silti tämänkin pitkästä pitkästä aikaa kuuntelin.
Pretty ok. Weird band name.
The metal of this album is dragged down some by the flavor of punk. Still, it rocks pretty hard and has some funny/fun familiar tracks.
it was fine...
I am totally charmed by ESL Europeans who want to make coolguy music, whether it’s these Norwegian dudes or any Eastern European dj from the eurodance era. Couple that with the fact that this album doesn’t exist in a universe where musical nuance is a thing and you just have to put down your critical arms and give in to the hilarity. Saying this album is maximal implies that there’s some sense of minimalism these guys are aware of - and I don’t think that’s the case. Even the mastering of this project is so compressed and LOUD. “Rock Against Ass” is surely enjoyable to anyone younger than late millennial age, as they are a group that grew up with enough ESL MC’s to find the “DJ Crazy Times” parody endearing. About halfway through the album at “Zillion Dollar Sadist” you have the hilarious realization that literally every hook, be it vocal or instrumental, is so quantized and based on counting to 4. By far the best (aka the funniest) song is “Are You Ready For Some Darkness”. The broken English and heavy accents are most prevalent and the lyrics are laughable with each new stanza. Not sure if this was meant to be funny when it was included in this list but it’s sooooo funny 3/5
*1998. Norwegian punk rock. *Pretty standard punk rock, which I normally like, but 54 minutes is way too long. *Wouldn't revisit, but wouldn't be upset if someone played it. RATING - 6.5/10
Decent 3
Punky rock
Oh my god hell yeah, another one I did not expect to see on this list. Much like, uh, Night of the Comet, it's a perfect B-movie. Much like a Tom Clancy novel, it's a perfect airport book. Much like AC/DC's output, this is a 5-star 3 star album. Stupid as hell, totally empty, and a lot of fun.
very cool norwegian punk rock! Rating:3.5./5 (05.06.2026)
Correcto
Another Scandinavian rock album (we had The Hives a few days ago). I actually saw these guys live at a festival not that long ago, and they rocked! This album is quite poppy, and the band name and imagery make them sound a lot more hardcore than they actually are. At times, it's more glam rock than anything else. The album starts off very strongly with "Age of Pamparius" and "Get It On." It's just the right amount of punk and rock. It's not as heavy as I was hoping for at times, though. After the first few tracks, I was expecting a 4-star album, but I think the second half lacked any really strong hits. It also became slightly samey. A strong 3 stars.
More punk, intro on The Age of Pamparius got me going, very punk sounding vocals which aren’t my favorite, album feels very stereotypical punk with a little twang from the guitar thrown in, more I listen more I like guitar and riffs but still can’t do the vocals Favorite: Selfdestructo Bust
This album started off decently enjoyable, but about halfway through I got kind of tired of it. It’s just good enough that about 30 minutes is the limit. Going almost an hour really made the imperfections stand out more. 2.5 / 5
Overall the VORP for the vocals is actively a demerit. Which is too bad because musically this is all pretty great. But the juvenility of the words is terrible .
OK. 3/5
The Age of Pamparius 3.7 Selfdestructo Bust 3.5 Get It On 3.5 Rock Against Ass 3.4 Don't Say Motherfucker, Motherfucker 3.3 Rendezvous with Anus 3.2 Zillion Dollar Sadist 3.5 Prince of the Rodeo 3.6 Back to Dungaree High 3.4 Are You Ready (for Some Darkness) 3.2 Monkey on Your Back 3.4 Humiliation Street 3.6 Good Head 3.7 Score: 3.461538462
I think if the production/mix was better, I would go higher. The writing, vocals, and instrumentation all seemed well done.
Not the best punk album out there, but definitely a good one. It's an interesting band too.
First two songs
This is unspectacular. The guitar riffs and solo are solid, nothing groundbreaking, but good. The lyrics, though, are boring. Swearing for swearing's sake. This is basically what high school garage bands aspire to become. That's not a bad thing, but that isn't reason enough to include it on a list of 1,001 albums to listen to before leaving this mortal plane. Maybe the actual book provides some context as to why this album is here, but without that I have no reason to rate this particularly highly. Okay, but actually the guitar playing is really good. This came out after an age of some really excellent guitar players, so it's not trailblazing or groundbreaking, but it is still very good. Favorite Song(s): Prince of the Rodeo
Some good stuff in here. Probably not enough to justify it on this list but a nice change of pace.
some interesting lyrics
This one caught me by surprise. Punk adjacent, and there's more than a few moments where they nail a groove or land a face melting guitar solo, or it might be a moment of the percussion dropping a bongo where my ears perked up and a smile crept across my face as my head started to bob. Pretty good stuff overall, even if there is no mistaking from song to song that they are definitely sticking to their sound and their lyrics could have been written by 13 year olds who want to holler swear words a loud as they can.
Nice album, The Age of Pamparius, Selfdestructo Bust and Suffraggette City were cool
Based on the band and album names I was expecting much worse. The pizza-themed lyrics notwithstanding, it has a kind of hair metal vibe that I like. These guys seem like goofballs, the Westminster Quarters part is confirmation of the pizza lyric suspicion. The music gets a 4, the lyrics get a 1. It's like dirty Norwegian Offspring. That's not fair, these guys are 100% better than Offspring. Back to Dungaree High is like a Ramones tribute band song. They're like the male Donnas.
Mica male
These guys are like a slightly harder, rocking Hives. I’m into it.
i dont know what to think cus its a metal album and i dont love it to much but is ok
Sound and energy were great, the lyrics not so much
This was very fun and silly.
Doesn’t really do it for me. Pretty average album. Probably goes hard on a skateboard.
It’s fine but unmemorable. I probably won’t listen to this again
A rock album with rocks in its head. It's super stupid, and also super fun. Can't say I'm obsessed with it, but I enjoyed my time with it.
# Album Name: Apocalypse Dudes # Artist: Turbonegro # Rating: 3/5 # Comments: Mid. Didnt love or hate it. # Top Tunes: # Would I listen to it again? nah
Musically good and entertaining. Lyrically meh.
Undirhaldandi fløga, ikki akkurát mín yndisstílur, men all good fun
This album was real dumb, perfect for the Wildboyz theme, a bit much for a whole album. 2.6.
It's not my favorite, but they way they combine genres of music is very talented.
Good silly fun. I've never repeatedly gone back to the rock 'n' roll well and find it a bit boring on repeat listens. This album won't change my views, but find this album at the right age and I could see them being the kind of band that could define your youth. Not all good albums need to be earnest, some just need songs about pizza or anus.
Over the top and fun Favorite Song: Are You Ready (For Some Darkness)
copado pero normal
Ta bien
This is a pretty bizarre record really, tho it's superficially digestible. These Norwegians combine three basic aesthetics: American punk vis-a-vis the Ramones thru The Replacements, pop-rock a la Oasis, & dense hard rock via AC/DC. Turbonegro probably think of themselves as punk in essence - 'Gimme deathpunk baby, & I like it' - but they're basically just a rock band - 'That rock is such a gift so make it last.' I don't really go for the whole just-a-rock-band-vision, mostly b/c I don't know what rock music is at bottom, but that's what this is, for good & for bad. Not enuf variety here to keep me invested for nearly an hour, but it rocks out, & for that reason I can get down. I'd just take other rockin' albums over this, ahem, Definitely Maybe.
Visai nieko, geros gitaros.
Entertaining but got a bit repetitive
a bit gimmicky but I didnt mind it
Eh. This wasn't bad, and it gets points for their dedication to rocking out, but it's missing that je ne sais quoi. I wish I could have as much fun with this album as it sounds like they're having. 3.3
Honestly this was a fun listen for a music genre I don't normally listen to. Band name a bit suss however Fave track: Prince of the Rodeo
Unhinged band name. Has sections that rip. 3/5
Kind of generic punk with iffy lyrics. I like their sound, but nothing groundbreaking. 2.5/5 rounding to 3.
It’s catchy and fun - but it doesn’t sound like something from 1998 at all. Maybe if they had released it ten years earlier or ten years later it would have made sense
Not my style but the energy was there. 2.5/5
This was fun and loud, but not a repeat listen for me. The lyrics sound like someone that doesn't speak English as their primary language.
Solid.
This is a rock smorgasbord
woof. where to begin. not a fan of the band name despite their "reasoning" but i'll concede that it IS better than their original name idea: nazipenis. the music itself is fine but nothing groundbreaking, and if you've heard 2 or 3 tracks, you've heard them all. it's just a late 90s punk rock sound with constant guitar solos on top. cool at first, then quickly outstays its welcome. their whole edgy schtick falls flat on its face when they don't have the sound to back it up. also i don't like how weirdly into crypto these guys are now? nothing says PUNK like being an insufferable fintech bro favorites: the age of pamparius, selfdestructo bust, get it on
The Hives, but a Poundshop, Norwegian version. I've never encountered this band before, which I find odd. It's OK...if a little obvious, contrived and lyrically naive in places, but I wouldn't turn it off, equally it's not making the 'buy' list. I would question it's inclusion in the process; there's nothing original or outstanding here. Heard before ❌️ Listened this time ✅️ Revisit 🫳 ★★★☆☆ (6/10) Total reviewed : 269 Already owned : 62 Purchased : 15 To buy : 1 Nope : 191
with the name I wasnt expecting much but damn there are some hitters on this
Imagine the Hives, but as well as playing semi pastiche stooges songs also throw in a line of Motley Crue riffs and woah-woah choruses and possibly the most ridiculous lyrics ever. It’s as stupid as it sounds, but in a good way
This is pretty great rock. Raucous, messy rock. Is it parody, is it serious? rock. It will work on you. 3.5/5. Does it belong on a list of 100? nope, but 1000? it's a long list.
This was a weird one to rate. Musically this would probably be a 3 or even a 4, cause it's got some extremely solid hard rock jamming. On the other hand, the lyrics are goofy and even childish at times (though never as infantile as, say, Limp Bizkit), and apparently a lot of the riffs are outright ripped off from earlier hard rock acts. So I'm gonna have to settle it out at a 6/10, or just barely a 3-star.
Some of the most cringeworthy lyrics I’ve had the displeasure of hearing but if you ignore that and just rock out then it was pretty cool
Cautious 3? Was not a fan of this on the first listen but was really rocking out on the second so if I ever feel the urge to listen to this again it's probably a 4.
(69/100)
This was a lot of fun. Melt ya face off!
I am sorry?? Pizza?? What is happening?? Okay, so the instrumentals slap. We can all agree on that 100%. Those lyrics tho omg i cannot look past that hahahah
I wonder what qualifies some of these hardcore punk albums to make this list. As a punk fan, I've always been familiar with Turbonegro, but their music never really stood out that much to me. It's a fun record all the same, but not one that I feel really fits the whole "must hear before you die" narrative
Some solid alternative hard rocking. The war between Rock and Ass was a victory. Top tracks: "The Age of Pamparius," "Good Head," "Rock Against Ass"
This kinda rocked. Here for it.
-Fun rock opener. This probably rips live -\m/ -This is tons of fun but not sure they can keep my interest in this for ten tracks. Great fastball, but does this group have a curveball? -I have nothing against ass -Meh -Do they like or hate butts? -I’m thinking these guys don’t have a curveball and we’re only half way through -at least this one has more a southern rock vibe. Just when I thought I was out… -not interesting until the end -Going a little goth -This LP probably would’ve made a fantastic EP. Pretty much every song is fun but it’s too samey -Checking my watch now -What does everybody want
Fine. Just good rock. Nothing exciting here for me.
Solide 3
This was decent, didn't love it, didn't hate it.
Not bad
Never heard of this band before, but was honestly expecting either Euro electronica or European death metal based on the band/album name and album cover. Pleasantly surprised to find it's just generic rock. It was fine. I wasn't blown away, and I think I could have died without hearing it though.
Turdo
Nineteen-year-old me probably would have loved this a lot more than my current self. This is fine, but mostly forgettable punk from the 90s.
Fun shock rock from the era of Jackass, not a detractor in my mind. However I felt the track length a bit self indulgent, take 30 seconds off every track or make it a 35-40 minute album and packs more punch.
Nah, I’m good, thanks Stand-outs - Zillion Dollar Sadist - Humiliation Street
Solid fun rock, but holy goofy lyrics. "Rock against ass" ??
Feels kind of reheated, but its fun.
Complètement con mais pas désagréable.
Nothing too groundbreaking, but seeing these reviews... some of y'all need to loosen up. Sometimes music is fun.
Interesting - new for me, thx!
Kinda edgy just for the sake of being edgy, but there’s a couple good songs on there that made it worth listening to. Not something I’d put on a playlist of my own, but I don’t regret listening to it.
Basic
It's amazing when you can hear music you've never heard before and pinpoint almost the exact year it came out.
meh
3.5
3.5. First listen. Was surprised in a good way. This might be better than the initial review. Its a keeper, no doubt
Inoffensive but nothing special. Standard-issue 90s punk-lite? 2.5?
Not my favorite, but did enjoy the 90s version of punk that wasn't pop punk.
Eh, it was alright.
Different than I expected when I saw the song titles. Didn't expect the glam rock sound. Liked it but didn't love it.
On season 2, episode 3 of WildBoyz, Chris and Steve-O visit the Aghori, a monastic order who believe that the path to enlightenment is ego death via nasty, anti-social behaviour. Throughout the segment, the Boyz become increasingly uncomfortable as the Aghori become increasingly fucked up on homemade booze and do increasingly disturbing things. It’s a tough watch. The last shot of the segment features Chris and Steve-O looking at the camera while one of the Aghori hangs off of them, trying to bite them, and Steve-O says, “If you think this was bad, imagine the stuff we WON’T be allowed to show you!” I give that line delivery: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Also I actually liked this album more than I expected. It was dumb and kind of fun.
Sound like the male Donna’s
90’s Punk ⭐️Are You Ready (For Some Darkness)
Kinda cool but not a very special punky rock album. Some songs like the first couple are great but in the middle to the end it gets a little boring. Has a nice energy though
It’s pretty clear that you’re not supposed to take this music seriously. It’s just a bunch of Norwegian dudes making stupid punk rock music with pretty terrible lyrics. It was kind of fun, but I have no desire to listen to this again. Overall, I don’t hate it, but I definitely don’t love it either.
While being fun with its punk energy, energetic guitars and vocals, this album has some corniness and cheesiness (while endearing to an extent) to it. It’s alright, just not the most compelling or substantial listen.
Had some fun vibes and it surprised me but mid, 5/10
Fun glam punk that doesn't take itself too seriously - although they could have taken another leaf out of the Ramones book and kept it a bit shorter.
Hyvää tykitystä. 3,5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Ihan menevää, hieman itseään toisti kylläkin. ⭐⭐⭐
Not my thing but good fun.
Not sure what to make of this one - sort of metal, sort of rock, sort of punk.
Aivan energistä meininkiä, prince of the rodeo hyvä esimerkki
I appreciate a generic “rock” band that isn’t pretentious about what they do. The sheer simple honesty of this makes it so much more appealing than so many other generic “rock” albums that have been on this list. I also appreciate the levity in the lyrics.
The world needs as many "pretty fun at 4PM at a festival" bands as it can get.
I was not previously familiar with the artist or album. This is some hard, distorted rock. While ultimately mostly forgettable, I did enjoy while listening. I would listen again I suppose but would not go out of my way to do so.
eh
I don’t mind this, but there are problems to my ears. It’s like when you blur a picture to make it "better". Its lost the punk grit and gained a cartoonish rock polish. I have no issue with a silly edge, but I’m just not sure the worlds have aligned here to add anything. The "Across the Pond problem" dogged me their cover of "Suffragette City" was nothing special, and it highlighted a recurring theme for me, the distinct difference between British and American punk (yet not what it seemed). It’s not that I like British and hate American. I enjoy most mainstream US stuff including stuff like Green Day or Blink-182. But this is different. British punk typically sounds like exactly what it is, a gritty reflection of the place it comes from. The American style is often more exaggerated, theatrical, and driven by a specific type of direct humor. I was so confused by my thinking that I looked the band up, only to find they are actually Norwegian. This explains why it feels like a US-style "show" but with an odd, detached viewpoint. It sounds like a "bad accent" or a simulated version of Americana. It feels like a band taking its cues from the US and performing a sound to appeal to an audience, rather than actually feeling it. Sorry this is a waffle fest but I do like the band but didnt want to take a stab at American punk as I didnt beleive that so the only way to redeem myself was go deeeeeeeep. Anyway wow that was a hard one to wrap my head around! On balance I had to chuck it in the middle of the road.
Given the name and the Wikipedia article, I went into this with high hopes of hearing some off-the-wall, outrageous punk, perhaps with some Norwegian heavy metal elements thrown in. I ended up being slightly underwhelmed. It does have some cool metallic guitar solos but otherwise it's a fairly standard Americanised punk style. This is a solid punk record and it's a fun listen, but I think they promise something they don't quite deliver.
Pretty fun album. Elements of metal and punk with some pretty killer guitar riffs. Good melodies. Stand out songs: - The Age of Pamparius - Prince of the Rodeo - Humiliation Street
When I signed up for this project, I did not expect this album to be here. To me, it's such a specific core memory for me of spending my early 20s in Copenhagen. Turbonegro was one of the bands that'd play punk clubs like Stengade 30 and antifa HQ Ungdomshuset. My on-off girlfriend's baby brother liked them. I must've heard this album during one of our parties, because I got goosebumps a couple of times. It's really weird to have this slice of 90s Scandi subculture here. I live somewhere else, the on-off girlfriend ended up marrying a guy who wasn't good to her, and her baby brother is no longer with us. But this album, man. It just takes me back to a specific time in my life. And it's so incredibly local Scandi glam-punk. It's fine if you don't like it or get it, but I'm glad Apocalypse Dudes caught me this morning.
Interesting
OK. I see, Scandi-Spinal-Tap. I'm getting echoes of Cheap Trick, The Ramones, Hair Metal and Enya. OK, not Enya. It's alright, but I'm not itching to relisten.
Helt okej!
yay jackass
It was alright
Warm, lightly chaotic rock ’n’ roll excess built from blown-out guitars, swaggering bass lines, stomping drums, glam-punk flourishes, and sneering, theatrical vocals folded straight into the racket pushes this punk-rock album forward like a beer-soaked parade float barreling downhill—loud, trashy, and irresistibly gaudy, yet so over-the-top and jokey that much of its impact splashes by before it can really land.
not bad, nice sound
Norwegian punk rock sounds about how you think it sounds
𝘈𝘱𝘰𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘺𝘱𝘴𝘦 𝘋𝘶𝘥𝘦𝘴 delivers a loud, swaggering mix of glam, punk and hard-rock attitude, built around big riffs and an exaggerated sense of theatrical excess. The album has solid energy and a few catchy, over-the-top moments, but it doesn’t push far beyond its own formula. Once the initial shock-value humor and stylized bravado settle in, the songs start to feel interchangeable, relying more on attitude than strong writing. Entertaining in bursts, but nothing particularly striking or memorable.
This was really fun. It did get a bit long for me, maybe because its not my preferred genre. If it was a little shorter, 4.
Pretty rocking! Never heard of these guys but this wasn’t bad at all.
With a name like "Apocalypse Dudes", you gotta know you're going into an album that doesn't take itself seriously. Starts strong with a satisfying combination of punk, rock'n'roll, and lighthearted songwriting, but kind of goes downhill. The album is mostly front-loaded. The mixing is lacking, it sounds quite flat and too compressed, even for a heavy music. Sounds nitpicky, but the mixing makes it impossible for me to listen to more than a few songs in a row.
In a way, it sounds older than it is, but not that bad. The lyrics though, they are just soooo stupid and hilarious somehow. That's what we were saying and laughing in 5th grade.
I think 13-year-olds thought they had made a great album. Parts of it sound quite funny, but overall it's boring and not enjoyable. 3/5
Nothing special but it rocks and I like it. 2,5
the age of pamparius- 4. i was not expecting this band to be white. i understand theyre from norway but bro... selfdestructo bust- 4 get it on- 4 rock against ass- 4 dont say motherfucker, motherfucker- 4 rendezvous with anus- 4 zillion dollar sadist- 4 prince of the rodeo- 4 buck to dungaree high- 4 are you ready- 4 no more incredibly dull
I'd probaby have loved this if had come out when I was considerably younger but, listening to it as a grumpy older bloke, it's not as interesting.
Another band I'd never even heard of! It was fun for a lot of it... not totally my scene, but props to the quite good Suffragette City cover at the end.
Not bad. "Prince of the rodeo is a fun one (I think I liked the bonus track more). Lots of good shredding. Surprised to find a Suffragette City cover.
I loved the music, enjoyed it overall, but I'm not gonna put this into the rotation or anything. 3.5/5
A throwback to a sound that this list is making dislike immensely. At least it is a Norwegian band! And it's very listenable. The dumb lyrics are kind of endearing. 3 Heard before? A couple Owned: No: 32/127 (25%) Will I get? No
Some of it was definitely catchy and fun, but throughout the whole album the only vibe I could get through the whole thing was "This is what a group of writers for a Disney Channel sitcom would create as punk music" lol. Gets 3 stars, but only just barely. 3⭐️
you can't really argue with the riffs and grooves here, especially for the time period (this is why i like non-American and British bands, they don't feel as beholden to the trends etc of the anglo world) but the juvenile lyrics definitely hold it back for me. and while i think the music is well executed, it's not exactly to my taste in the first place. glad i heard it though!
This was better than I expected, given the band’s name, history, track titles, and the fact that it came out in 1998. Definitely pretty one-note, though. After a pretty exciting opening, the majority of the songs settle into the same kind of tempo, tone, sound. Odd lyrics, but I can forgive that since they’re Norse and seem to be just taking the piss. It’s all some ripping, loud, heavy punk. They’re good players but in service to somewhat lame songs. I wouldn’t call this a must-listen, but it’s not bad.
It's decent. Reading on Wikipedia that the genre was "glam punk" got my hopes up, so I was a little disappointed. Still might spin this again or check out more of these dudes' stuff.
While it features strangely juvenile and homoerotic lyrics, this album clearly rocks. After the opening track it was a bit hit or miss with me, but the last two on the original release, "Humiliation Street," and "Good Head" righted the ship at the end and are definitely worth the price of admission. Solid 3.5 record here.
This was an ok rock album.
Sounds good and aggressive. Good for gym and running. It looks like lyrics are shit, but I don’t care. Nothing extraordinary to attract my attention, so 3 out of 5.
Guitar was great, riff-wise and solo-wise especially on humiliation street for the latter, it honestly would have been so much better if the whole album was more of this. It’s a high energy album which again is mostly created by the great guitar and I guess the drums, although the mix doesn’t sound like it’s from the late 90’s more like the 80’s or something. The vocals were decent but the lyrics were pretty awful, it’s way better to just ignore them as they’re so bad, very immature and not in a good way at all. Although they’re a Norwegian band so maybe some slack is fair. When there’s no lyrics and just guitar though it’s pretty awesome. Favourites: Selfdestructo Bust and humiliation street. Overall, 6/10 (maybe a bit generous).
Rockig laut 3/5
i do NOT know these folk. should be fun. edit: lol jk. from the first song, i was like "these guys sound EXACTLY like a group that'd be in the Skate games' soundtrack." lo and behold that come that last song, 'Suffragette City' comes on and i'm like "uhp".
Punk rock! Transgressive!
Apocalypse Dudes got nothing to lose Gonna bake some motherfucking magic tonight
great fun
FAVO: Dont say motherfucker motherfucker, Good Head
Decent rock but not too memorable
It was fine, music makes up for the lyrics. 3/5.
It's fine. Sounds like the soundtrack to some skateboarding video game you don't want to play but you're at your friend's house and he thinks it's the greatest. It goes on entirely too long, and the not-at-all subtle dick sucking lyrics are a bit much. 6th grade Corey Mayne would have loved it, and he was a scumbag. I bet he's in jail by now.
Struggling to review this one. Sonically, this banged but lyrically it teetered between sophomoric and fun. I could see myself enjoying it in the right mood maybe but today it had be rolling my eyes. If these guys stopped acting like they were 12 then I think they really had something here. 5/10
