Amazing listen. Vocals, melody, lyrics. Emotional waves and one great song follows another.

Not my cuppa. I've been told if you play one note wrong it's a mistake, play two notes wrong and it's jazz. I guess I'm more of a Kind of Blue Miles Davis guy.
It certainly sounds like a Talking Heads album...
Well I don’t have to listen to that again.

Great overall album. Plenty of tracks you know and can vibe to, but several underrated tracks as well!
A great easy listen. Even though I am from the area I have never attended the Newport festivals. Tiger in Your Tank and Goodbye Newport stand out. Mellow sound and vibe overall
Nice album. I can fumble through Spanish and Portuguese, and these song are slow enough for me to pick out the main messages.
Start to finish a fabulous album. Rock. Simple, driving, boot stomping rock.
Really easy listen. Lo-fi. Even little hints of Nick Drake in there. Excellent background vibe music.
So funny to listen to know. This supposed album of darkness and terror, while still an interesting album, does not hold the fear of its initial release date.
Madonna's return to the limelight. Complete shift in look and sound. Some tracks are a little heavy on the Kabballah she is now into but some great dance numbers as always.
One of the absolute great albums in tone, musically, lyrically, it is just Billy at his best. The first 7 tracks should each be in the HOF for their own reasons.
Outstanding rock album. Blasts into you with Immigrant Song and doesn't let up.
Interesting listen. 60's electric vibe, but some different sounds. King is in his Counting House comes to mind. Get me to the World on Time has great beat
One of the great all time albums. I have listened over and over. The voice, the arrangements. Amazing.
Outstanding album. not only amazing "classics" but a few you should listen to again for the first time.
Barely listenable. A couple of passable tracks... Secretly... Mostly screaming and shock value
Essentially, if Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem met a cross between Randy Newman and the Guess Who... Good listen. Not memorable.
Great ZZ Top sound. Waitin' for the Bus is a fabulous 1st track. And La Grange is La Grange.
Excellent Live album. Originals and covers. Amazing drum solo.
Interesting 80's alternative / New Wave. Worth a listen.
One of the greats. Multiple 5 star tracks. Killing in the Name, Bullet in the Head, Know your Enemy...
Meh.
Something I would have played in college. Noise, spoken word... Otherwise unremarkable.
Smooth as silk. One of the easiest listens ever. Perfect mood music.
An absolute anthem of hope and love. A clear voice singing out for love and resilience. Your circumstances shape you but do not define you. Keep hope alive.
The absolute Queen. Yes, Chain of Fools, but People Get Ready but Good to Me and the incomparable Natural Woman. Just amazing.
Has all the hallmarks of a mid-late 90s club album. Great dance tunes "Brand New, You're Retro" lead right into make out mixes like "Suffocated Love". A better album than I expected. As was recommended on Apple Music, "play this late at night and loud". The next time you're looking for a background make out vibe album, give this a try
Fabulous example of live arena rock. Even though I only knew maybe 3-4 songs, the energy level carried the show. Definitely a 3+ so I'm voting 4.
Good disco vibe. Party album. Dancers and make out songs alike.
Mediocre beat poetry over a bad background from a Nick Drake style artist. I may look into future albums to see if there was growth.
Great flow and rhythm. You do not need to speak the language to capture the feel. Background party music. Top shelf!
Please let me start by saying, I am NOT a fan of The Cure. That being said, apart from the final track "Untitled", I don't know how much more you can do or get out of a sound, a feel, an ethos. The album is amazing. Full stop. I did not want to like it but could not help it. Truly a great overall album.
A storyteller of the highest order. Thoughtful, insightful, revolutionary. Sadly, I always get hung up on his voice. Otherwise 5 stars.
I will admit a soft spot for Janis. Her voice always evokes an image and this album has all the songs you know and a few I grew to love.
World class. HOF tracks.
VEEERY average College radio noise from the 90s. I played it a few times on the radio. more noise than substance. A couple of tracks are worth it. That's all.
Close your eyes and imagine the images. An album of feeling and grace. No notes... One of the great singer songwriters of her or any age.
Good vibe. Smooth. Background Jams
Some HOF 80s cuts. You know the ones, but don't sleep on Money Changes Everything...
Fabulous. Truly the 'king" and deserving of respect. The guitar work is immaculate. Best line on the album - I gave you seven children and now you tryin' to give them back...
Average collection of songs overall. A couple of great tracks but not enough to push it past 3 stars.
I had never heard of this album but a great listen!
Great easy listen jazz. Love the electric piano
Really enjoyed this album. Flashes of Mos Def. Good overall sound. Not every track a classic, but better than average as a whole.
Early Beach Boys. Good sound but not fully developed into the phenomenon they would become in Pet Sounds. Easy 50’s / 60’s sounds.
So many hits. Great 80s sound. Easy to listen to and groove out to.
Fabulous start to finish. Tomorrow Never Knows is my favorite Indian inspired track off any Beatles album. HOF tracks throughout.
Brilliant anti-establishment lyrics. I've slept on The Kinks. Knowing only their standards. This is an amazing example of pushing the envelope without rage or obvious anger. Mom & Dad beware. To borrow from The Who, the kids are not all right. They are fed up and want more.
Decent tracks. You'll know Bodhisattva and My Old School. Show Biz Kids is disgustingly repetitive... Average overall album.
Very gentle vibe. Come down album. Nick Drake + The Shins? John Wayne Gacy Jr. is creepy AF... Decatur - Historical soft pop? Would give a 3.5. Not really a 4.
Honestly... Childish sounding. Unimpressed.
Judy Collins / Joni Mitchell / Carole King / Decemberists? Interesting blend. Definitely worth a few more listens.
Don't let the camp of Randy get in the way of this album. The emotions are there. This is a better listen looking out the window with a drink. Technically 3.5 stars.
Three tracks in particular point the way, The Fairy Feller, Nevermore, and March of the Black Queen show you where this band is headed. Great album full of songs I had never heard.
Lots of great 80s sound. Much more than the hits you knew.
UGH... Someone bothered to produce this?
Interesting. Practically spoken word. Not my cuppa.
Meh... Electronica. Nothing earth shattering.
One of the great lyricists. But I always feel like I have to push through his voice...
Outstanding mood album. Nick Drake? The Shins? Beautiful sound. Will definitely help you figure some things out while questioning others.
An absolute showstopper of an album. Southern/Bar rock at it's finest
Queen coming into their full selves. Sounds, harmonies, and of course Bohemian Rhapsody.
Solid harmonies. Rockabilly influence. They have a "sound" and stick to it. The only way to distinguish the songs is by the track number. They all sound essentially the same. Definite tragedy in these mini-novellas. Some were very grim indeed and would have received the parental warning label today. Worth a listen, maybe not more than two.
Atrocious... Will never listen to again. I want to scrub this boring depressing repetitive nonsense from my memory banks... I would give it fewer than 1 star if I could.
Very interesting. Mood shifts from Pink Floyd, to dance tracks to lyrical voacl tracks.
A defining album in my musical education. Still my favorite Pearl Jam album.
Heavy College radio in the 90s. Lots of shouting but only so much to listen to.
Great album. Stellar guitar work. A perfect introduction to Santana and his version of Spanish electric guitar work.
Great intro to Bob Mould and the fuzzy guitar sound I believe he perfected in his band Sugar. Definitely a big influence in my college years.
Great smooth beats. Background cocktail party vibe .
Silky smooth 70's style indicative of the blacksploitation films of the era. Washes over you like the cream over ice in your White Russian. Heartbreaking realities masked in falsetto.
Fabulous 80's pop/metal. Hair band excellence. Apart from the known tracks, the others flow and fit nicely in the overall work.
Good album. Consistent Stephen Stills twang. Easy listen. Lyrics and tone work well. Otherwise unremarkable. but a good listen.
Not my cuppa. I've been told if you play one note wrong it's a mistake, play two notes wrong and it's jazz. I guess I'm more of a Kind of Blue Miles Davis guy.
Very good album. Not a Stones fan, but truly a very good album. growth beyond Satisfaction.
Sounds like School House Rock made a country album.
So many albums from one group and yet there is always one or two truly great tracks surrounded by an album you can't stop listening to.
Absolute classic. A dozen different sounds, all time beats and loops. You will dance, bop your head, and just rock or cool out to this album.
Not my jam.
Mostly sad.
Bad 80's background synth.
Noisy. Good noisy, not great noisy.
Great background vibe. Very 70's party
Such a better album than I would have thought! I had always heard The Monkees were the US Beatles, but never quite understood it with the songs I knew, and the TV show I grew up watching. Listen, it's no White Album, but definitely smoother and deeper than I would have given them credit for.
screaming. noise... Take Some Petrol is more than a track. It's advice.
Great album. Neil Young southern rock sound. Not every song comes out perfect, but the message is easy to hear and delivered well.
Another great listen. Smooth, cool, and classic. Another example of why I like Miles so much.
Amazing "80s" sound in 1979.
A little too weird for my tastes. But a good sound overall
Loved her voice. smoky 90s sound. Such a big voice from such a small woman.
Amazing listen. Vocals, melody, lyrics. Emotional waves and one great song follows another.
Not bad. Some very "The Hives" sounding songs. Some screeching. A few good tracks to pick off it, but not a complete album.
Great 70's album and sound. Various themes and types of sounds. from synth based keyboards. to the guitars of Mr. Blue Sky.
Not their best album by a long shot. Sure, Enter Sandman, The Unforgiven, and Nothing Else Matters can ramp you up, but that's 3 out of 12 They have MUCH better albums, Ride The Lightning, Master of Puppets...
"The new Beatles" lol
no. just no. like a bad mix of 70s and 80s R&B
If I have learned one thing, it is that I cannot possibly listen to another Joy Division album. Absolutely tiring. Exhausting and dreary are the kindest words I can even think of as the album has sucked all of my life force from me. Dementors and Ring Wraiths exhibit more cheer.
Harmless toe tappers. Nothing remarkable. You will know 1 or 2 songs...
I listened to it. There was music. I couldn't tell you a single thing about any of the songs. None of them struck me in a positive way and the ones that aggravated me are stuck in my head. I did the lesson. I won't repeat it.
An album that inspired a very 80's movie. Prince is a musician rivalled by few. the album is very good. Not 100% my taste, but a seminal 80's work.
Dated? Yes. Classic? Yes. A time capsule into the 80s you will happily trap yourself in.
Vibe
90s grunge royalty
Mediocre post-punk/rock of the 70s not worth much time
Some HOF tracks on this one. If you have any interest in Elton, this is a good a place as any to start.
He's fine. A strong voice if not a remarkable one. Clear notes with only a hint of emotion.
meh. 80s beats. nothing too remarkable.
The bad thing about Green Day songs, they are only two minutes. The bad thing about Green Day songs, they are only two minutes. Even still this is a classic and formative album for my generation. Always a good listen.
THE concept album from one of the greatest rock bands even to plug in an amp and break their instruments over it.
WOW. Just wow. beautiful haunting singing and guitar work. Torch singing of the highest order. Sweet Jane brought back memories.
This is not the sunny sound of 60s soul. This is gritty. Very different listen. Likely a new sound for me as a 52 year old white man, I never listened to the darker side of 60's Motown as they rarely played it on the stations my dad listened to. Give this a listen.
Middle of the road Prog rock. Some memorable tracks. Some...
60's rock... ish... Not The Doors, not The Who, easily forgettable.
The pinnacle of the Beatles British Pop sound. Crazy to hear how much they evolved...
Soft rock from the 70s.
Far better than I thought. Never a Morrissey fan, nor a Smiths fan. But this album did a lot. Still not making my top 100, but did a great job.
Fine easy listening. Nothing overly memorable but a decent listen.
Originality + Greatness = Icon. One of the true founders of Rock 'n Roll.
decent. nothing leaps out at you but gives a fair listen and tells a story.
Lyrical Master. Singer?
Amazing songwriting and storytelling. But the Bangles version of Hazy Shade of Winter will always be my favorite!
I am sure these are infinitely better with several pints in oneself. Sounds as if you asked AI to craft a prototypical Irish Pub band. Some good tracks, Pair of Brown Eyes, The Band Played Waltzing Matilda.
Forever a genius, musically & lyrically.
Solid Queen Album. Variety of sounds and themes. Freddie's voice is worth 2 stars on it's own.
nothing special
Like many 80's albums, it's somebody's jam. Pretty in Pink is the defining track. The rest blend into sameness for me.
Let me start with I am not a fan of Courtney Love. That has colored my opinion of both her and her music for decades. I wish I had listened to this album when it first came out. It's much better than it should be and would have been an amazing album at the time.
There's more to Supertramp than I had originally thought. Interesting album with a couple of classics on it. Definitely worth a listen.
Sounds like an album of early 90's sitcom themes. See "Real Man". Not worth a second listen.
This is a top 5 album of mine for a long time. The vibe is exquisite. Chill, contemplative. Take some time and learn about Nick and his life. Listen to his other two albums. This 3rd and final was his masterpiece.
Lightweight Nick Drake
My favorite Album by Johnny.
Sad Shins meets Beach Boys. Not in a great way...
I had never noticed how much of this album is a tribute to 50's doo wop... Couple of classic tracks bumps it up to a 4.
Not her best. her latest reinvention...
I wanted to like it more. Bob Dylan they ain't. Harmless listen, chill vibe.
90's noise
One of the great Side 1 Track 1 songs on a debut album of all time.
Makeout album
Pretty much everything you need to know about Steely Dan
I know there was an audience for this in the 90s. I don't feel it's aged particularly well. Was never really my sound even back then when I would have listened to it.
sleepy.
Groovy psychedelics.
Classic flow.
One of the all time greats
Excellent listen. Message, Sound. this had it all
Not their best. Disintegration was much better.
Some really amazing tracks. Some have not aged as well. But a very good album. A 3.5-3.75, but I'll round up.
noise
Yup. Sounds like Elvis Costello
Great party listen.
Decent Prog rock. No one will confuse it for Yes... but a reasonable listen. 2.5-3 stars
Magic. Joni Mitchell is one of the finest singer songwriters and this is a fabulous example.
Excellent Bowie sound. Rest in Peace Duke.
Love a Louis Prima Album. Loved him as King Louie in The Jungle Book. A unique sound in the swing era.
Similar to Green Day, The worst thing about the songs is they are 2-3 minutes. Conversely, that is also their strength. Fun slightly hyper pop punk.
Someone paid money to produce this. I would love to ask them why.
Just a fabulous voice. Power and emotion. I found her album 18 on iTunes when it gave away her Chasing Pavements song away as it's song of the week and I've been a huge fan ever since. "Someone Like You" is an all time break up song.
One of the great rock voices of all time in Brad Delp. I consider him with Freddie Mercury, Nate Ruess, and Steve Perry.
Interesting sound. Not my wavelength.
Decent vibe. Background music
Interesting listen Spanish / Arabic feel. Good dance vibes.
Decent album. Consistent AC/DC sound
I'd like to think that somewhere a foley artist working on an industrial dystopia film lost his master reel. This isn't it. It's worse.
Always a smooth listen.
Extremely average. Maybe less so.
Beautiful smooth Brazilian bossa nova. Perfect background music for a party or intimate dinner.
One of the absolutely iconic late 80's hair metal albums. So many Hall of Fame intros. One of the top 25 albums.
Sounds as delicious as a Cuban coffee and pastry
Yup. Late 70's angry punk. Nothing to spend much time listening to.
Better than I thought. Never heard of it before, but it deserves a solid 3.5. But it isn't a 4.
Soothing. Classic songwriting.
Once in a lifetime - Iconic. And a bunch of other songs.
very average to the point of boring
Pre-Nirvana / Pearl Jam when grunge wasn't just a style, it was a sound no one wanted.
Not my favorite Bowie Album...
Groovy Byrds sound.
Great album from a bygone era.
Better listen than I thought it would be. Easy sound. In the age of punk it isn't, but I don't know where to put it. 3.5
Feels like Ren Faire music. Easy listen.
80s Soundtrack style. Easy listen. Nothing remarkable.
Fabulous. Welcome to the guitar solo...
I have never understood the devotion to this atrocious band. Every song is too slow. Nothing is as angry as it should be. This band and album have lived off hype for too long. It's terrible.
Decent background music for a action movie sex scene.
Karaoke HOF with Mr. Brightside. Honorable mention to Somebody Told Me. Overall banger.
Interesting 80's sound effects, haunting Peter Gabriel lyrics. AN excellent introduction to his work.
I will confess to the heresy of not being the biggest fan of His Royal Purpleness, but this album is excellent. Mush better than I thought with several HOF tracks. Not all to be sure, but really worth a listen.
Interesting listen. Decent lyrics if not overwhelming. I'd listen to another album of it.
It's Joni Mitchell. The sound, the words. But not as magical as some of her other works.
Dated? Yes. Still one of the all time classics.
Good album? Yes. 100 Greatest of all time? Hard pass. Mot even the best Prince album
Trash
20 songs of lava lamps, swirling lights, and Austin Powers look-a-likes dancing on Shag carpet and spinning beds...
Lost her too soon. Overall a fabulous album that makes you feel. Too many others don't.
Noise. Background noise.
Completely enveloping. No notes.
Not my feel. But North American Scum and New York I Love You, But You're Bringing Me Down struck some chords.
Decent psychedelic album. Legendary Janis vocals.
Nah. Growly 60's rock
A Hall of Fame voice with the lyrics and music to match.
Growly nonsense
Great sound. Easy 70's singer songwriter vibe
While not sounding like any of his hits, it may be the most Van Morrison sounding album. Not every track lands, but overall a wonderful listen.
Nice 70s singer songwriter album. You'll know more than a couple of these. The others fit in nicely.
Banging "hold" music. Zero reason to listen to other than beats to sample.
meh. Not U2s finest, by far. It was a new sound and expanded them. Has a few hits (loosely defined), but did little for me.
Hippy fireside songs at a medieval tavern.
It certainly sounds like a Talking Heads album...
Good album worth a listen and take some time with. Not everything is worth the listen.
Very groovy album. Soft sounds that work in the air around you. While not overly majestic or demanding, its subtlety makes you want to listen again.
Easily one of the better albums of the 80s... released in 2009. Soft vocals, synths, it pretty much has it all.
Covers & early hits. An easy listen for fans. Nothing earth shattering, but as far as early 60s boy band pop goes, it's a winner.
70's album with the sounds of an 80s album
My mother always complained "he's just up there screaming" and most of it is James "screaming" in his signature style. The emotion comes through most of it and really his the right balance. While there is some performative howling, the emotion is unmistakable.
Goddess. No notes
90S college dorm groove music. Better than I expected and worth a listen for those so inclined to like this background.
If Taxi Driver, Midnight Cowboy, and Chinatown had an album. Gritty 70s meets (or predicts) synth 80s. There is an appeal, just none with me.
Very 90's college radio Indie. I'm sure I played them back in the day. Decent album the whole way through. Deserves to be in a regular listen rotation for sure.
One of the great albums. Lyrics. Style. Message.
Absolute breakout album. One of the top first albums and albums of the 90's. Most has aged well, like Alanis herself.
Standard 80s Hair Metal, turned up to 11. One of the better albums of the 80s.
Sit back and enjoy the ride. I don't know where you will end up, but the journey is the reason.
Take bad country music, trim it with spoken word style. The only way I could like this album less is if I were silver or Jewish...
The album has 2 HOF tracks from the 60s and yes you know them. While the rest of the album isn't cohesive as it plays from Mamas and the Papas type melodies to more obscure sounds, it warrants a thorough listen. I wish we could give half stars because this album is above a 3 but not quite a 4 for me.
Decent stereotypical 80's party movie soundtrack
Truly great all the way through as an album.
Decent but very standard rock album. Good for filler and backgrounds.
Despite my affection for rap and hip hop, I never followed the Tupac / Biggie feud. This album did not make me want to start.
An entire album of mediocre DJ beats to play under infinitely better songs.
Big De La Soul 90s vibes. Great sound overall.
Much better 90s album than you would think. Couple of great tracks on here. Overall angry sound you can get behind. Nothing stellar in the music or lyrics, gut a good overall effort.
60's groove with some HOF hits. Varying levels of composition and degrees of difficulty, but overall worthy of your time.
Mediocre medieval tavern fare
Really good 90s album. Really good. Start to finish very listenable. Easy vibe without too much grunge.
Up until Closer... Banger of an album. Then... noise, until a decent song in Hurt, turned into a triumph by Johnny Cash.
Absolutely first rate. Fast Car was highly overplayed in my opinion, but the album is fantastic. And with time, Fast Car has come back to be the hit it always was. Don't skip a track.
60's groove. Nothing overwhelming. Nice blend of forms and sounds. Solid 3.5, but not a 4.
SOOOOOOOOOO SLOOOOOOOOOOOW. One track is tolerable. Two gets you on a suicide watch list.
80s torch songs... should be part of any K-Tel love songs compilation.
A lot of 90s sound. not much of it worth repeating.
Holy cow. I have never heard an entire album of what sounds like 70's movie intro songs. This album either deserves 1 star or 5 and I can't tell which. The lyrics are trippier than any YES album. I am glad that I have heard this album. I will tell everyone I know to listen to it. Just to get their reactions...
Nice 60's guitar vibe. Yes, I know it's Eric Clapton.
You cant find a better opening 4 songs on an album. Track 5 is an old school throwback sound and then the title track. Great album overall.
I felt the "Crazy Diamond" guitar solos ran long, but the songs in between are all just first tier Floyd...
That voice...
Nice album for a summer party
My college years were filled with the grunge explosion. There was little in my eyes Nirvana or Pearl Jam could do wrong. Another album that has cemented itself in my memory.
Just a wonderful sound. such emotion.
Sounds that vary from Volkswagen commercial to a Tron movie style background music.
Track one is from the movie Robots. Listen to one song, it's a vibe. two songs, it's a tragedy.
Nice jazz vibe. Much easier sound than his 80s hit Rockit.
Wow. This album hits a lot of feels. I would be afraid to listen to this after a breakup. Or maybe that's the best time? Fabulous emotion.
I get it more now that I've listened to it. Honestly, this is the first time I've listened to this album in my life. In the 80s I held no love for Bruce. I still think he sounds and plays like he an his guitar are being strangled. But the anger and frustration is real. And if you think anything about this album is a patriotic paean, listen again...
Average 90s fare. Worth a listen or two.
One of their best. Lyrics and emotion well outside the normal punk pop range. Holiday - My fave.
You've heard one song off this album.
Fabulous rebirth of a legend. Thank you Rick Rubin!
Not for me...
Great background vibe. Late night drinks music.
While a little scattered in style, some absolutely beautiful torch songs. Unbelievable quality of voice. I only felt there were one or two songs out of place, but they were still good songs.
Meh. Whiny. Nothing I would listen to again.
This album is masterful. The only song that pulled my from amazement was "You Sure Love to Ball", too repetitive. Even with this, still an absolute classic.
I get it. It's a decent album, but I also now understand the statement I heard about Ozzy, which was his talent is memorable, if not great. Also, their toe dip into prog rock was just awful.
I really wanted to like this album as I have memories of playing their track "Leave Them All Behind" on college radio back in the day. This album is moaning punctuated by constant cymbals... A bad reminder of a poor 90's sound.
Great album with several of their greatest hits. Ramble Tamble is unnecessarily long and Ooby Dooby is a skip. But a great CCR album
I understand two things after listening to this album. 1. I realize this is a great example of house party music from the late 90s. 2. I never liked house party beats from the late 90s.
Great sound, lyrics, feel. Understandably one of the top 100 albums overall.
Quick lyrics. Good beats. Similar to Eminem in speed. Quality example of British Hip-Hop/Rap.
Decent album. Songs you know.
Rockabilly punk?
Yup. Sounds like Neil Young.
For fear of prosecution, no matter what I rate this album I shall leave no notes...
100% average to below average Elvis. Nothing to replay here. Not even his Fever rendition
Dance nonsense
Excellent harmonies and production. Really easy to listen to and I am not a Fleetwood Mac fan.
Very good example of soft 90's British alternative. Violins, expansive vocals, good production. I'm surprised more of these songs didn't hit the charts.
Somewhere in between an odd Aerosmith and The Rocky Horror Picture Show...
Loved the sound overall. Psychedelic Brazilian...Background music covering a range.
The Celtic Soul Brothers and the Jackie Wilson Said cover could have been easy follow ups to the seminal Come on Eileen. That track has all the production value for the album. Other than that, a fairly forgettable album of dancy bar music.
I'll start with top level production value. Not my jam. Good voice and feel.
You don't have to like the voice, but if you can't hear the message, that's on you.
nope...
Southern Rock staple. Some classics, some background filler. 3.5 overall
Lyrics of the time that echo today
Psychedelic pop weirdness
Shit human. Crazy energy. Would have been an excellent show. Little Richard would have done it better.
Production is top level. Clearly they have a broken heart and are working through it, but I'm not the audience for this at all... Ethereal. Angry. Pained. A good representation of emotion.
Fabulous album. I have only heard his hits and no albums all the way through as with this one, but I have to imagine one of his best.
Decent opening track. Mary Jane is too long, has a sort of Beatles sound to it (maybe it's just the subject). Some good hype video tracks. Slow stuff is meh.
A much better album than I expected. I'm going with 4 as I high rating. Sound and feel were excellent, especially the title track.
I am not sure how overall these years I’ve criminally underrated David Bowie. This is an outstanding album. Definitely worth your time.
If you had told me that every single one of these songs was on the soundtrack for any 80's teen hijinks rom-com, I would believe you. Nothing remarkable.
Smooth R&B. Fine to listen to but not my thing. It might be a 3 but I'm not the best judge on this.
Hanoi Sucks. 80's junk punk. Mediocre production value.
An excellent album overall. So many memorable songs. A few real clunkers, experimental type tracks, but on a double album that is to be expected.
Fabulous. The voice. The production. A complete listen.
So it turns out I like The Pretenders far more than the relentless playing of Brass In Pocket would have led me to believe. Very listenable.
Good REM album. Not my favorite but solid.
High quality production value. Reminds me of a funky Stevie Wonder sound. Good party vibe 3.5/5
Somewhere between German nightclub electronica and 80's fantasy movie soundtrack. Production is good, but I am not the audience.
New artist to me. Great 70's country. Slide guitar, twang, yodeling. Easy listen on a long road trip. Better than 3.5/5 so I went with 4.
I've heard many other forms of this sound, and better. It often drifted into The Guess Who. 2.5/5
Royalty
Good old school country from the balladeer.
Prog folk? No thanks
Eh, it sound like Talking Heads. Life During Wartime is a classic of theirs...
If you can make it through Track 1, it barely improves.
It's the Doors. Mid overall.
Great lyrics and sound. Southern twangy rock but not in a bad way.
Well I don’t have to listen to that again.
Gratuitous everything. Not worth a serious listen
A long album, but a beautiful sound and incredible effort overall. Wonderful vocals weaved throughout.
Only a couple of songs worth caring about.
So I clearly listened to the Bowie Mix. Awful. The Iggy mix is wildly better. Great sound and raw energy.
One of the great debut albums of all time. LA Rock at its finest. Eddie's skill is apparent from the get go.
Veeery 80's synth pop but gets more out of it than it should.
You know it's a punk album when it has 14 songs and is only 35 minutes long!
Not as good as the subsequent album Raw Power, but the sound and anger are there
2 great tracks, you'll know them. 2 good tracks. The rest are filler.
Classic 90s speed metal.
Excellent album. Great feel. Excellent production. Pop + feeling. Well worth several replays.
Has kind of a Shins vibe. Soft early 2000s sounds.
Very early “pop” Who. Some classics. Some easily skipped.
90% of the 80s tropes. 25% worth listening to.
Anything less than 5 stars is a lie. Full stop.
Wow. Never was a fan of Kanye, never listened to anything he had done before. I've been told since, there may be better albums of his. for that reason I will give this a 4. Not a perfect album but overwhelming in its production and ambition. It has become such a wild thing to have to separate artist from art and that is what I am doing here. I cannot support his views. there are a dozen such artists I could list here, black and white. The music is impeccable and that is what held me transfixed for the entirety of the album.
Good Doors album. Couple of classics. Traditional electric organ sound.
Excellent 90s vibe. Fast pop to slow, lamenting ballads. Great encapsulation of the decade in alternative.
I will give you the absolute brain bender of "Fruit Tree" is a bit much, but this is a sit by the rainy window with a mug of tea vibe. Still a solid 5.
80s lunacy from Track 1 on. Reasonable 80s sound. Not an album I’m going to listen to again. The stuff of background soundtracks.
It was okay. Not as good as I would have hoped. Only one or two with the trouble
Fun listen. Absolute slammer of an opening with Seven Nation Army.
Not my vibe. Sound and production is fine. Wildly average. I feel like this band is more of a vibe. No one casually likes them. You are all in or all out.
Always a fun ride. Strange? Yes. But so easy to listen to…
Really good alternative sound. I would definitely listen to another album by them. Not quite 4 stars but 3.5 easy.
One of their greats. Experimenting. Looking for new sounds. Going beyond the pop years
While not my general listening, this was an easy listen. Well produced. Strong lyrics, and a powerful music score.
Hold music.
Seminal 80s album. U2 has never been a favorite band, but with respect to first 3 tracks on an album, you have an excellent set here. Ill be generous and give 4 to a 3.5 album.
Fine. Good sound. Background patio drinking music. Just not my vibe.
Wow, just wow. Absolute Banger. Never listened to an entire album of theirs, but wild energy.
Felt like a very average alternative album
Better than average 90s alternative. Even few really good songs. not a 4 though. 3.5.
Another great album by one of the great singer songwriters.
Interesting. From prog rock to lo-fi to hold music. The spoken word didn’t add much for me but I’ve never seen the movie. I will now. Solid 3.5
Nice old school cowboy near yodeling album. Not my thing but a good representation.
A very poor example of whiny 80s synth emo.
Iconic 90s sound. They were not my grunge band though. Two or three HOF bangers. And the rest…
A couple of songs I liked and remembered. Some good guitar play but it won’t get another full listen from me.
Great emotion and voice. A lot of covers. Not my favorite album of his.
The shitty breathiness of the vocals is only surpassed by the general malaise it instills.
Interesting. More than I expected, but a little too much. Not my listen.
A very 80's attempt at a 90's album
Such a huge album at the time. At the time. Dre rapped about what he knew and what he knew worked. We all ate it up. A 5 star in 1992, a lot of the shine has worn off.
Easy going. Almost too much so. Another review described it as white women drinking wine, sitting in a circle around a campfire. Not a bad listen. Just done know I’ll return to it.
I've liked other stuff by Muse, this just wasn't it.
It’s giving opening act energy. I hate to dump on them as they have a produced album and I don’t. I’m saying I’m sure their parents are proud. I just don’t know what executive they convinced this would be the next big thing.
A truly great album. Coming to it late but will definitely give it more listens
A slice of David Byrne, a little Peter Gabriel, plus a whole lot of nondescript synth and moaning.
I was a DJ at my college radio station. Stuff like this was our bread and butter. Doesn’t age well. It may not have even been very good to start. This is what Boomers think Nirvana sounds like. Screaming. Wailing guitars. Distortion and feedback to a punishing level.
Party beats. DJ filler. But of a good quality
DJ beats or video game background tracks
Powerhouse of a debut album. Established the organ sound for the rest of their careers.
Why? Why did this make the list? 2 stars for production value. This doesn't need to be an album it's a passion project.
Beats…
I mean I love The Duke and all but this smells of a passion project more than an album. I'm devastated.
Started strong with the waltz number. Some easy songs to listen to but never fully delivers.
Honestly I’m debating between a 4 and 5 stars for this album and I’m going to shoot high. Fabulous.
Is it a Brian Wilson album? Yes. There are much better examples of his work.
Love the sound. Difficult to speak about it more.
License to Ill established the sound and vibe of the Beastie Boys. Paul's Boutique gave us the faintest hint of how far they were going. A tremendous album, classic.
Why. Why do you give us these speaker test albums. I can hear the highs and lows. I didn’t need an entire album of awful hold music. You can keep your “importance of this album nonsense”. The only reason this receives 2 stars is the obvious production value.
Iconic soul soundtrack. Isaac Hayes is a national treasure. You can feel the scenes through the music.
I would have sworn this was 80s female punk. I liked the sound more than I thought I would. Angry women with a message are so effective. A 3.5+. Happy to round up.
Wow. What a find. As someone who is a casual LOVER of The Shins, this hits as a twangy version of them. I can listen to this for hours.
My uncle introduced me to Yes in my formative music years and this is the Prog Rock band that opened my eyes to the genre. A host of others are in my rotation now, but this album showcases some of the true greats on their instruments.
One of the most heavily frontloaded albums of all time. It cannot be a 5
Prog jazz? Interesting. Not memorable.
Surprisingly good. Nice flow. Definitely over a 3. But I can’t quite give it a 4.
You can hear the beginnings of where they were going. But they didn’t get there until Machine Head.
Live albums RARELY live up to a live show. And the sound here is not worth the time invested. Some iconic songs wrapped up in terrible packaging.
An entire album at 33 1/3 that should be played at 45. Just ponderous.
Great easy hip hop sound. A true find!
There are few styles of music that translate in a live album. Even fewer better than Jazz, and Duke remains a king.
