Amazing listen. Vocals, melody, lyrics. Emotional waves and one great song follows another.

Miles Davis
1/5
Not my cuppa. I've been told if you play one note wrong it's a mistake, play two notes wrong and it's jazz. I guess I'm more of a Kind of Blue Miles Davis guy.

Led Zeppelin
4/5
Great overall album. Plenty of tracks you know and can vibe to, but several underrated tracks as well!
Muddy Waters
4/5
A great easy listen. Even though I am from the area I have never attended the Newport festivals. Tiger in Your Tank and Goodbye Newport stand out. Mellow sound and vibe overall
Manu Chao
2/5
Nice album. I can fumble through Spanish and Portuguese, and these song are slow enough for me to pick out the main messages.
The White Stripes
5/5
Start to finish a fabulous album. Rock. Simple, driving, boot stomping rock.
Air
4/5
Really easy listen. Lo-fi. Even little hints of Nick Drake in there. Excellent background vibe music.
Black Sabbath
3/5
So funny to listen to know. This supposed album of darkness and terror, while still an interesting album, does not hold the fear of its initial release date.
Madonna
4/5
Madonna's return to the limelight. Complete shift in look and sound. Some tracks are a little heavy on the Kabballah she is now into but some great dance numbers as always.
Stereolab
2/5
Billy Joel
5/5
One of the absolute great albums in tone, musically, lyrically, it is just Billy at his best. The first 7 tracks should each be in the HOF for their own reasons.
Led Zeppelin
4/5
Outstanding rock album. Blasts into you with Immigrant Song and doesn't let up.
The Electric Prunes
3/5
Interesting listen. 60's electric vibe, but some different sounds. King is in his Counting House comes to mind. Get me to the World on Time has great beat
Ray Charles
5/5
One of the great all time albums. I have listened over and over. The voice, the arrangements. Amazing.
The Smashing Pumpkins
4/5
Outstanding album. not only amazing "classics" but a few you should listen to again for the first time.
Skunk Anansie
1/5
Barely listenable. A couple of passable tracks... Secretly... Mostly screaming and shock value
Dr. John
2/5
Essentially, if Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem met a cross between Randy Newman and the Guess Who... Good listen. Not memorable.
ZZ Top
4/5
Great ZZ Top sound. Waitin' for the Bus is a fabulous 1st track. And La Grange is La Grange.
Deep Purple
4/5
Excellent Live album. Originals and covers. Amazing drum solo.
XTC

Stan Getz
5/5
Smooth as silk. One of the easiest listens ever. Perfect mood music.
Dolly Parton
5/5
An absolute anthem of hope and love. A clear voice singing out for love and resilience. Your circumstances shape you but do not define you. Keep hope alive.
Aretha Franklin
5/5
The absolute Queen. Yes, Chain of Fools, but People Get Ready but Good to Me and the incomparable Natural Woman. Just amazing.
Tricky
4/5
Has all the hallmarks of a mid-late 90s club album. Great dance tunes "Brand New, You're Retro" lead right into make out mixes like "Suffocated Love". A better album than I expected. As was recommended on Apple Music, "play this late at night and loud". The next time you're looking for a background make out vibe album, give this a try
Thin Lizzy
4/5
Fabulous example of live arena rock. Even though I only knew maybe 3-4 songs, the energy level carried the show. Definitely a 3+ so I'm voting 4.
CHIC
3/5
Good disco vibe. Party album. Dancers and make out songs alike.
Nico
2/5
Mediocre beat poetry over a bad background from a Nick Drake style artist. I may look into future albums to see if there was growth.
Caetano Veloso
4/5
Great flow and rhythm. You do not need to speak the language to capture the feel. Background party music. Top shelf!
The Cure
5/5
Please let me start by saying, I am NOT a fan of The Cure. That being said, apart from the final track "Untitled", I don't know how much more you can do or get out of a sound, a feel, an ethos. The album is amazing. Full stop. I did not want to like it but could not help it. Truly a great overall album.
Bob Dylan
4/5
A storyteller of the highest order. Thoughtful, insightful, revolutionary. Sadly, I always get hung up on his voice. Otherwise 5 stars.
Janis Joplin
4/5
I will admit a soft spot for Janis. Her voice always evokes an image and this album has all the songs you know and a few I grew to love.
Run-D.M.C.
5/5
World class. HOF tracks.
Pixies
2/5
VEEERY average College radio noise from the 90s. I played it a few times on the radio. more noise than substance. A couple of tracks are worth it. That's all.

Van Halen
5/5
The Mothers Of Invention
1/5
Cyndi Lauper
4/5
Some HOF 80s cuts. You know the ones, but don't sleep on Money Changes Everything...
B.B. King
5/5
Fabulous. Truly the 'king" and deserving of respect. The guitar work is immaculate. Best line on the album - I gave you seven children and now you tryin' to give them back...

Paul Simon
4/5
I had never heard of this album but a great listen!
Jimmy Smith

Lupe Fiasco
4/5
Really enjoyed this album. Flashes of Mos Def. Good overall sound. Not every track a classic, but better than average as a whole.
The Beach Boys
3/5
Early Beach Boys. Good sound but not fully developed into the phenomenon they would become in Pet Sounds. Easy 50’s / 60’s sounds.
Taylor Swift
5/5
So many hits. Great 80s sound. Easy to listen to and groove out to.
Bee Gees
2/5
Beatles
5/5
Fabulous start to finish. Tomorrow Never Knows is my favorite Indian inspired track off any Beatles album. HOF tracks throughout.
The Verve
3/5
4/5
Brilliant anti-establishment lyrics. I've slept on The Kinks. Knowing only their standards. This is an amazing example of pushing the envelope without rage or obvious anger. Mom & Dad beware. To borrow from The Who, the kids are not all right. They are fed up and want more.
Steely Dan
3/5
Decent tracks. You'll know Bodhisattva and My Old School. Show Biz Kids is disgustingly repetitive... Average overall album.
Sufjan Stevens
3/5
Very gentle vibe. Come down album. Nick Drake + The Shins? John Wayne Gacy Jr. is creepy AF... Decatur - Historical soft pop? Would give a 3.5. Not really a 4.
Blur
2/5
Honestly... Childish sounding. Unimpressed.
Fairport Convention
4/5
Judy Collins / Joni Mitchell / Carole King / Decemberists? Interesting blend. Definitely worth a few more listens.
Randy Newman
3/5
Don't let the camp of Randy get in the way of this album. The emotions are there. This is a better listen looking out the window with a drink. Technically 3.5 stars.
Queen
4/5
Three tracks in particular point the way, The Fairy Feller, Nevermore, and March of the Black Queen show you where this band is headed. Great album full of songs I had never heard.

1/5
Meh... Electronica. Nothing earth shattering.
Bob Dylan
4/5
One of the great lyricists. But I always feel like I have to push through his voice...
Elliott Smith
5/5
Outstanding mood album. Nick Drake? The Shins? Beautiful sound. Will definitely help you figure some things out while questioning others.
The Black Crowes
5/5
An absolute showstopper of an album. Southern/Bar rock at it's finest
Michael Jackson
4/5
Queen
4/5
Queen coming into their full selves. Sounds, harmonies, and of course Bohemian Rhapsody.
The Louvin Brothers
3/5
Solid harmonies. Rockabilly influence. They have a "sound" and stick to it. The only way to distinguish the songs is by the track number. They all sound essentially the same. Definite tragedy in these mini-novellas. Some were very grim indeed and would have received the parental warning label today. Worth a listen, maybe not more than two.
Deerhunter
2/5
Joy Division
1/5
Atrocious... Will never listen to again. I want to scrub this boring depressing repetitive nonsense from my memory banks... I would give it fewer than 1 star if I could.

4/5
Very interesting. Mood shifts from Pink Floyd, to dance tracks to lyrical voacl tracks.
Pearl Jam
5/5
A defining album in my musical education. Still my favorite Pearl Jam album.
Black Flag
2/5
Heavy College radio in the 90s. Lots of shouting but only so much to listen to.
Santana
4/5
Great album. Stellar guitar work. A perfect introduction to Santana and his version of Spanish electric guitar work.

Great intro to Bob Mould and the fuzzy guitar sound I believe he perfected in his band Sugar. Definitely a big influence in my college years.
Machito
4/5
Great smooth beats. Background cocktail party vibe .
Curtis Mayfield
4/5
Silky smooth 70's style indicative of the blacksploitation films of the era. Washes over you like the cream over ice in your White Russian. Heartbreaking realities masked in falsetto.
Def Leppard
4/5
Fabulous 80's pop/metal. Hair band excellence. Apart from the known tracks, the others flow and fit nicely in the overall work.
Stephen Stills
3/5
Good album. Consistent Stephen Stills twang. Easy listen. Lyrics and tone work well. Otherwise unremarkable. but a good listen.
Beastie Boys
4/5

The Monkees
3/5
Such a better album than I would have thought! I had always heard The Monkees were the US Beatles, but never quite understood it with the songs I knew, and the TV show I grew up watching. Listen, it's no White Album, but definitely smoother and deeper than I would have given them credit for.
The Sugarcubes
1/5
screaming. noise... Take Some Petrol is more than a track. It's advice.
Neil Young & Crazy Horse
4/5
Great album. Neil Young southern rock sound. Not every song comes out perfect, but the message is easy to hear and delivered well.

Electric Light Orchestra
4/5
Great 70's album and sound. Various themes and types of sounds. from synth based keyboards. to the guitars of Mr. Blue Sky.
Metallica
2/5
Not their best album by a long shot. Sure, Enter Sandman, The Unforgiven, and Nothing Else Matters can ramp you up, but that's 3 out of 12 They have MUCH better albums, Ride The Lightning, Master of Puppets...
2/5
"The new Beatles" lol
Janelle Monáe
2/5
no. just no. like a bad mix of 70s and 80s R&B
Joy Division
1/5
If I have learned one thing, it is that I cannot possibly listen to another Joy Division album. Absolutely tiring. Exhausting and dreary are the kindest words I can even think of as the album has sucked all of my life force from me. Dementors and Ring Wraiths exhibit more cheer.
Moby
2/5
Harmless toe tappers. Nothing remarkable. You will know 1 or 2 songs...
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
2/5
I listened to it. There was music. I couldn't tell you a single thing about any of the songs. None of them struck me in a positive way and the ones that aggravated me are stuck in my head. I did the lesson. I won't repeat it.
Prince
4/5
An album that inspired a very 80's movie. Prince is a musician rivalled by few. the album is very good. Not 100% my taste, but a seminal 80's work.

This is not the sunny sound of 60s soul. This is gritty. Very different listen. Likely a new sound for me as a 52 year old white man, I never listened to the darker side of 60's Motown as they rarely played it on the stations my dad listened to. Give this a listen.

Like many 80's albums, it's somebody's jam. Pretty in Pink is the defining track. The rest blend into sameness for me.
Hole

1/5
Growly nonsense
Joan Armatrading
3/5
Great sound. Easy 70's singer songwriter vibe
Van Morrison
4/5
While not sounding like any of his hits, it may be the most Van Morrison sounding album. Not every track lands, but overall a wonderful listen.
Harry Nilsson
3/5
Nice 70s singer songwriter album. You'll know more than a couple of these. The others fit in nicely.
Aphex Twin
1/5
Banging "hold" music. Zero reason to listen to other than beats to sample.
U2
2/5
meh. Not U2s finest, by far. It was a new sound and expanded them. Has a few hits (loosely defined), but did little for me.
Fairport Convention
1/5
Hippy fireside songs at a medieval tavern.
Talking Heads
2/5
It certainly sounds like a Talking Heads album...
David Bowie
3/5
Good album worth a listen and take some time with. Not everything is worth the listen.
Beach House
4/5
Very groovy album. Soft sounds that work in the air around you. While not overly majestic or demanding, its subtlety makes you want to listen again.
Wild Beasts
4/5
Easily one of the better albums of the 80s... released in 2009. Soft vocals, synths, it pretty much has it all.
Beatles
4/5
Covers & early hits. An easy listen for fans. Nothing earth shattering, but as far as early 60s boy band pop goes, it's a winner.
Brian Eno
3/5
70's album with the sounds of an 80s album
James Brown
4/5
My mother always complained "he's just up there screaming" and most of it is James "screaming" in his signature style. The emotion comes through most of it and really his the right balance. While there is some performative howling, the emotion is unmistakable.
Adele
5/5
Goddess. No notes
The Boo Radleys
4/5
90S college dorm groove music. Better than I expected and worth a listen for those so inclined to like this background.
Suicide
1/5
If Taxi Driver, Midnight Cowboy, and Chinatown had an album. Gritty 70s meets (or predicts) synth 80s. There is an appeal, just none with me.
The Dandy Warhols
4/5
Very 90's college radio Indie. I'm sure I played them back in the day. Decent album the whole way through. Deserves to be in a regular listen rotation for sure.
Bob Marley & The Wailers
5/5
One of the great albums. Lyrics. Style. Message.
Alanis Morissette
5/5
Absolute breakout album. One of the top first albums and albums of the 90's. Most has aged well, like Alanis herself.
Def Leppard
4/5
Standard 80s Hair Metal, turned up to 11. One of the better albums of the 80s.
Pink Floyd
4/5
Sit back and enjoy the ride. I don't know where you will end up, but the journey is the reason.
Silver Jews
1/5
Take bad country music, trim it with spoken word style. The only way I could like this album less is if I were silver or Jewish...
Jefferson Airplane
3/5
The album has 2 HOF tracks from the 60s and yes you know them. While the rest of the album isn't cohesive as it plays from Mamas and the Papas type melodies to more obscure sounds, it warrants a thorough listen. I wish we could give half stars because this album is above a 3 but not quite a 4 for me.
Bauhaus
3/5
Decent stereotypical 80's party movie soundtrack
R.E.M.
5/5
Truly great all the way through as an album.
T. Rex
3/5
Decent but very standard rock album. Good for filler and backgrounds.
2Pac
2/5
Despite my affection for rap and hip hop, I never followed the Tupac / Biggie feud. This album did not make me want to start.
Les Rythmes Digitales
2/5
An entire album of mediocre DJ beats to play under infinitely better songs.
A Tribe Called Quest
5/5
Big De La Soul 90s vibes. Great sound overall.
Linkin Park
3/5
Much better 90s album than you would think. Couple of great tracks on here. Overall angry sound you can get behind. Nothing stellar in the music or lyrics, gut a good overall effort.
The Mamas & The Papas
3/5
60's groove with some HOF hits. Varying levels of composition and degrees of difficulty, but overall worthy of your time.
The War On Drugs
2/5
Pentangle
2/5
Mediocre medieval tavern fare
Teenage Fanclub
4/5
Really good 90s album. Really good. Start to finish very listenable. Easy vibe without too much grunge.
Nine Inch Nails
3/5
Up until Closer... Banger of an album. Then... noise, until a decent song in Hurt, turned into a triumph by Johnny Cash.
Tracy Chapman
5/5
Absolutely first rate. Fast Car was highly overplayed in my opinion, but the album is fantastic. And with time, Fast Car has come back to be the hit it always was. Don't skip a track.
The Young Rascals
3/5
60's groove. Nothing overwhelming. Nice blend of forms and sounds. Solid 3.5, but not a 4.
Beck
1/5
SOOOOOOOOOO SLOOOOOOOOOOOW. One track is tolerable. Two gets you on a suicide watch list.
Simply Red
3/5
80s torch songs... should be part of any K-Tel love songs compilation.
Supergrass
2/5
A lot of 90s sound. not much of it worth repeating.
Scott Walker
3/5
Holy cow. I have never heard an entire album of what sounds like 70's movie intro songs. This album either deserves 1 star or 5 and I can't tell which. The lyrics are trippier than any YES album. I am glad that I have heard this album. I will tell everyone I know to listen to it. Just to get their reactions...
Derek & The Dominos
3/5
Nice 60's guitar vibe. Yes, I know it's Eric Clapton.
Red Hot Chili Peppers
4/5
You cant find a better opening 4 songs on an album. Track 5 is an old school throwback sound and then the title track. Great album overall.
Pink Floyd
4/5
I felt the "Crazy Diamond" guitar solos ran long, but the songs in between are all just first tier Floyd...
Emmylou Harris
5/5
That voice...
Milton Nascimento
3/5
Nice album for a summer party
Nirvana
5/5
My college years were filled with the grunge explosion. There was little in my eyes Nirvana or Pearl Jam could do wrong. Another album that has cemented itself in my memory.
Cat Stevens
4/5
Just a wonderful sound. such emotion.
Kraftwerk
1/5
Sounds that vary from Volkswagen commercial to a Tron movie style background music.
Tom Waits
1/5
Track one is from the movie Robots. Listen to one song, it's a vibe. two songs, it's a tragedy.
Herbie Hancock
3/5
Nice jazz vibe. Much easier sound than his 80s hit Rockit.
Neil Young
5/5
Wow. This album hits a lot of feels. I would be afraid to listen to this after a breakup. Or maybe that's the best time? Fabulous emotion.
Bruce Springsteen
3/5
I get it more now that I've listened to it. Honestly, this is the first time I've listened to this album in my life. In the 80s I held no love for Bruce. I still think he sounds and plays like he an his guitar are being strangled. But the anger and frustration is real. And if you think anything about this album is a patriotic paean, listen again...
The Jesus And Mary Chain
3/5
Average 90s fare. Worth a listen or two.
Green Day
5/5
One of their best. Lyrics and emotion well outside the normal punk pop range. Holiday - My fave.
Talking Heads
2/5
You've heard one song off this album.
Johnny Cash
4/5
Fabulous rebirth of a legend. Thank you Rick Rubin!
SZA
2/5
Not for me...
Bill Evans Trio
3/5
Great background vibe. Late night drinks music.
Erykah Badu
4/5
While a little scattered in style, some absolutely beautiful torch songs. Unbelievable quality of voice. I only felt there were one or two songs out of place, but they were still good songs.
Marianne Faithfull
2/5
Meh. Whiny. Nothing I would listen to again.
Marvin Gaye
5/5
This album is masterful. The only song that pulled my from amazement was "You Sure Love to Ball", too repetitive. Even with this, still an absolute classic.
Black Sabbath
3/5
I get it. It's a decent album, but I also now understand the statement I heard about Ozzy, which was his talent is memorable, if not great. Also, their toe dip into prog rock was just awful.
Ride
2/5
I really wanted to like this album as I have memories of playing their track "Leave Them All Behind" on college radio back in the day. This album is moaning punctuated by constant cymbals... A bad reminder of a poor 90's sound.
Creedence Clearwater Revival
4/5
Great album with several of their greatest hits. Ramble Tamble is unnecessarily long and Ooby Dooby is a skip. But a great CCR album
Basement Jaxx
2/5
I understand two things after listening to this album. 1. I realize this is a great example of house party music from the late 90s. 2. I never liked house party beats from the late 90s.
Steely Dan
5/5
Great sound, lyrics, feel. Understandably one of the top 100 albums overall.
Little Simz
3/5
Quick lyrics. Good beats. Similar to Eminem in speed. Quality example of British Hip-Hop/Rap.
Coldplay
3/5
Decent album. Songs you know.
The Cramps
2/5
Rockabilly punk?
Neil Young & Crazy Horse
2/5
Yup. Sounds like Neil Young.
Pink Floyd
4/5
For fear of prosecution, no matter what I rate this album I shall leave no notes...
Elvis Presley
2/5
100% average to below average Elvis. Nothing to replay here. Not even his Fever rendition
Mj Cole
2/5
Dance nonsense
Fleetwood Mac
3/5
Excellent harmonies and production. Really easy to listen to and I am not a Fleetwood Mac fan.
The Verve
4/5
Very good example of soft 90's British alternative. Violins, expansive vocals, good production. I'm surprised more of these songs didn't hit the charts.
The Sensational Alex Harvey Band
2/5
Somewhere in between an odd Aerosmith and The Rocky Horror Picture Show...
Os Mutantes
3/5
Loved the sound overall. Psychedelic Brazilian...Background music covering a range.
Dexys Midnight Runners
2/5
The Celtic Soul Brothers and the Jackie Wilson Said cover could have been easy follow ups to the seminal Come on Eileen. That track has all the production value for the album. Other than that, a fairly forgettable album of dancy bar music.
Beyoncé
3/5
I'll start with top level production value. Not my jam. Good voice and feel.
Bob Dylan
5/5
You don't have to like the voice, but if you can't hear the message, that's on you.
The Style Council
2/5
nope...
Lynyrd Skynyrd
3/5
Southern Rock staple. Some classics, some background filler. 3.5 overall
Curtis Mayfield
4/5
Lyrics of the time that echo today
Small Faces
2/5
Psychedelic pop weirdness
Jerry Lee Lewis
4/5
Shit human. Crazy energy. Would have been an excellent show. Little Richard would have done it better.
Björk
3/5
Production is top level. Clearly they have a broken heart and are working through it, but I'm not the audience for this at all... Ethereal. Angry. Pained. A good representation of emotion.
David Bowie
5/5
Fabulous album. I have only heard his hits and no albums all the way through as with this one, but I have to imagine one of his best.
The Vines
3/5
Decent opening track. Mary Jane is too long, has a sort of Beatles sound to it (maybe it's just the subject). Some good hype video tracks. Slow stuff is meh.
Lenny Kravitz
4/5
A much better album than I expected. I'm going with 4 as I high rating. Sound and feel were excellent, especially the title track.
David Bowie
4/5
I am not sure how overall these years I’ve criminally underrated David Bowie. This is an outstanding album. Definitely worth your time.
Lloyd Cole And The Commotions
2/5
If you had told me that every single one of these songs was on the soundtrack for any 80's teen hijinks rom-com, I would believe you. Nothing remarkable.
Ms. Dynamite
2/5
Smooth R&B. Fine to listen to but not my thing. It might be a 3 but I'm not the best judge on this.
Hanoi Rocks
1/5
Hanoi Sucks. 80's junk punk. Mediocre production value.
