Grew on me and understand where Nick Cave got a lot of his influence now.
Great set of 50s 2 minute songs, absolutely brilliant.
Yes? Yes! Proving that a track less than 8 minute long just isn't worth the bother.
Kept coming back to this album, got better each time.
Loved it, especially the well known tracks.
Ended up listening a few times, really grew on me.
So many great songs, loved it.
Amazing such a unique sound. Always feels like a few mates getting together to enjoy themselves.
New album to me, but really enjoyed it. Will listen again.
Body count higher than a Quentin Tarentino film.
The quintessential 5* album against which others are measured!
I like Astrud a lot but maybe not her best album!
I listened to this while in a room on my own and had to take a cold shower to calm myself down.
Ok but quite an odd collection of tracks that doesn't seem that cohesive as an album. A few good classics metal tracks but interspersed with some quite average tracks.
Cranked it up and drove around Goring-by-Sea with the windows wound down in my Vauxhall Cavalier SRi. This offered a great opportunity to pretend I was in a real life version of Grand Theft Auto trying to avoid getting a cap in my ass and to not come across one of the many hoes I had wronged.
Other than that, some great music, album far too long and could have done without the sex noises creating an awkward moment while I was waiting for an old lady to shuffle across the road at the belisha beacons.
Loved it, super smooth and really enjoyed the variety of vocalists and instrumentals in this. Took me back to being 20 again, and chillin with my mates.
Tub thumping swamp music. Never really heard them before, but worth listening to twice on the same day.
I'm a big Who fan and play quite a few of their tracks in my covers band but had never actually listened to this album. I sort of enjoyed this but felt like a massive self indulgence punctuated by a few decent tracks. I've never worked out how they were such an amazing live band, possibly one of that best of all time, but they failed to get that raw brilliance down in much of their studio recordings.
Screaming guitars, screaming vocals. Belter.
Good songs, but a lot of talking. Not sure this list needs two Johnny Cash prison gigs though.
I've heard OutKast described as Hip Hop for people that don't like Hip Hop and on listening to this, I can sort of hear why. I thought there were some great songs on here and the production level was really high. But.... at over two hours they could afford to pick some winners and put out a more concise and higher quality album. Couldn't quite manage all of it but will probably return and finish it off at the weekend.
Never really got The Smiths. And still don't. The instrumental band is pretty amazing and I hadn't appreciated just how good they are. I find Morrisseys tunes a bit samey and struggle to relate to what he's on about. Maybe will try them again, guess there will be other Smiths albums on the list...
Never heard of Lucinda Williams before, and enjoyed this enough to have it on a few times.
Sensational! Ability to switch between beautiful ballads and full on swing is amazing and such an amazing level of one take musician ship.
Smashed this up loud for my morning commute. Listened to Brighton Rock as I drove through Brighton. Perfect.
I loved Metallica in the 90s. I played in an orchestra in the 90s, even toured into Europe. have been meaning to listen to this album for over 25 years. Loved it, enormous in its ambition and execution.
Loved the simplicity and beauty of this album. Was a lovely surprise on my commute to work in the dark on a cold winter morning!
Not really my bag, but appreciate it's beautifully made.
1* so many clichés
5* they were first to quite a few of those cliches
3* overall
Mind expanding, so much going on in the detail, the grooves, the evolution of tracks. My kind of thing.
Loved it on the whole. The stuff about the pervy old train driver hasn't aged well.
Don't think live albums should be on here at all, but guess it's not my list!
Ok I suppose for that 80s kind of synth pop. think there are better examples out there, but there is some pretty great playing on here all the same.
Sound of my teenage years. Loved it.
Moany moany morrisey. Never really got the Smiths but appreciate for some they are the most amazing band of all time. Maybe one day someone can help me get there....
Tracks before Revelations- quite enjoyed, especially Orange Skies ****
Revelation- if you have run out of ideas, just stop and call it there. *
If I was a football pundit that spoke only in cliches, I would be reaching for 'bang average' after listening to this. Nothing objectively wrong, but never really piqued my interest.
Been enjoying this album for years, and nice to dust it off again. Fuck the flute haters, sounds great!
Grew up with this album but have always struggled to relate to it. Some objectively great songs though...
My first metal gig was Iron Maiden at Wembley arena and a certain Anthrax were supporting. They absolutely rocked and this was a pivotal day in my enjoyment of music, never looked back and its bands like this that sewed that seed. Cracking album even if the production is a bit thin at times.
Belter. Loved every minute of it. Dark, edgy, moving, intriguing. Some truly amazing lyrics.
Who knows, can't work out if I love or hate this. Some ok tunes but never felt like it was made with any real passion.
Super cool, loved the vibes, no idea what they were really on about although I know enough French to recognise a few words and keep the intrigue up.
Had this on a double cassette with Saucerful of Secrets as a teenager and played it to death. Loved hearing something out of this world and it blew my mind. I'm not sure if I heard for the first time now whether I would be as enthusuastic, but top marks for the memories!
Some great tracks and some average tracks
Disturbing, intriguing and worth a m other listen.
Disturbing, intriguing and worth a m other listen.
One good hit, a couple of catchy numbers and a load of filler.
I'd sort of forgotten about Stereolab, a band beloved to my flatmate in 1999 who played this album back then. Never did much for me. However 27 years later turns out I absolutely love this now and it was lovely to be transported back to a different time in a way only music can!
Liked this more than I expected. Generally quite simple songs telling tales.
Love the chilled out vibe of this album.
I had really low expectations for this album by reputation, but really enjoyed it. Just a set solid songs well played. Definitely will be listening to it again.
Normally live White Stripes / Jack White, but couldn't get into this.
Liked this back in the day, but found this a bit dull - plenty of big beat better than this out there.
Too long but loved it all the same.
Got this on a Sunday which is the perfect day to delve into the stories on this amazing album. Adore Jaco Pastorius bass lines that weave in and out of the vocal lines.
Just back to back brilliant songs.
My mate who has significant musical overlap with me says The Fall are his favourite band. So I've tried them a few times before, but never managed a whole album.
And I at I still just don't get it.
Maybe the ramblings of a mad man, a work of genius, both or neither - I'm still not sure.
Not really for me although loved them back in the day
An album of any contradictions, from outright blues to more expansive long tracks. 4 for now but may revisit after listening again.
It was 1984. I was on the school French exchange. My mate Gary had got hold of some magic mushrooms. After, I returned to my host family who insisted I joined them for a glass of red wine and a selection of cheeses. I retired to bed and had some strange almost fever dreams as I dropped off to sleep.
And that is the closest thing I have experienced to relate to this album.
5/5 will listen again.
The incredible dog on a string bamd more like. You can still smell the wood smoke, lentil stew and B.O. wafting through the decades.
2/5. Would have been 1/5 but for the whimsical idea of riding a giraffe backwards.
Sensational is probably overstating it, but quite an enjoyable blast.
Not a fan of live albums, but would have absolutely loved to have been at this gig.
Amazing. I normally dislike any album this long but loved it all the way through
Undeniably a great singer and a well produced album, just not my kind of thing
So many great tracks, quite a few of which I'd never heard before. Worth going back to.
I quite like Hot Chip but not much outstanding about this album really.
Amazing range of songs and surprised how much of this I already knew despite never having played the whole thing before.
Amazing range of songs and surprised how much of this I already knew despite never having played the whole thing before.
So many great tracks performed so well. Loved it from start to finish.
As my Gran used to say. Swearing is not big, its not clever and its not funny. By all means pepper your songs with swearing, but when it gets to the point that most your words are that, they lose any impact whatsoever.
I felt from beginning to end that this was just dreadful. And what he did to Parliament's P-Funk was a war crime.
Most of all, this album was soulless.
Apart from the out of tune piano, it being a live album and the tuneless way he sings it was shit.
Well made and an interesting album, but probably not something id listen to again.
Objectively a great album from a talented singer but one I owned back in the day and always struggled to warm to.
Never really listened to the Stones before this project beyond their really well known hits. Amazing to discover how much I love their albums. This was a high energy better.
One of the albums I grew up with, love it.
