REALLY wasn't expecting this, but not upset!
Not Bad, Not at all... Actually quite a lot of fun listening to it, lots of energy... Easily 4 stars, more like 4.5
Probably the best punk album I've ever heard.
Fav: The Age Of Pamparius Least Fav: Good Head Expected some sort of Norwegian death metal ala Napalm Death, got something that was so much better. More of this please
Sick nonstop punkrock fun and games. Sick guitars
Not gonna lie, I did not expect a Turbonegro album to end up on a list of the top 1,001 albums to hear before you die, but I’m here for it. This took me straight back to high school, just jamming out with no shame. I haven’t even bothered to check what the critics think. I can already tell this one probably gets some hate, but honestly, I loved it. “The Age of Pamparius” slapped, and “Don’t Say Motherfucker, Motherfucker” plus “Monkey On Your Back” are just solid, rowdy tracks all the way through. And let’s be real, who can hate on a song called “Good Head”? Isn’t that what everyone wants? Special shoutout to Pal Pot Pamparius and that tambourine, which was on point throughout the whole album. That’s an extremely underutilized instrument these days
Hmmmm this looks interesting.... A 6 headed cobra!? Damn! Was not expecting this. This shit rocks! 🤘🏽 I'll finish listening at the the gym. Finishing this up this morning and yeah man, this is a solid album!
Totally forgot about this band! Had a lot of fun revisiting!!
Glam rock and punk is such a great combination, and these guys pull it off perfectly. The album has big, anthemic choruses and a rock ‘n’ roll attitude, but with the rebellious energy of punk. There’s also a tongue-in-cheek element, which just adds to the fun.
>>>>> the Beatles Such a shame this is getting rated so low. It's so much better than half this damn list. Sorry the lyrics aren't as brilliant as "We all live in a yellow submarine A yellow submarine A yellow submarine"
One of the most surprising albums I've heard on this list, as this Norwegian hard rock band blew me away. One of the best hard rock albums I might've ever heard, and to top it off, they have a David Bowie cover in there as well.
Que Álbum! Não conhecia e adorei. Muita energia e divertimento. CVJ Vivian.
Track names get 6 stars. This one came out of nowhere but it's great. All bangers
Powerful melodic saturated punk rock I love it
Très sympa. Ça envoie !
I loved this album and the hard rock. I had never heard of this band until now, and the band isn't that old, either. I wish I listened to this earlier.
This was a really fun album to listen to. An interesting blend of some head-banging punk and badass hard rock. People clown on the lyrics but I think they're funny and the band is just having fun. Not every song has to be about heartbreak and failed relationships. I really enjoyed this album and saved some songs to revisit.

Fuck yeah, this is a masterpiece
Fucking brilliant. Eases you into it for a moment in the first track, and then you're off! I had a grin on my face from that moment and they never backed off from then on, which I'm thrilled about. Also fun Down with the Sickness ass drums in Dungaree High lol. An album and band I'd never heard before but an instant save!
Fun
Very good!
Cool!
The only actual rock-n-roll bands that've ever existed on Planet Earth are Poison Idea and Turbonegro
punk/hair metal album
MOTHER FUCKING PIZZA TONIGHT!
Classic college rock that I keep coming back to annually. Very surprised it ended up on this list
Wow. Intense, whimsical, punk as hell. This reminds me of the best of AC/DC, and just seems like they are just out here to have a great time. The band name, some of the historical context (ie playing in blackface) hasn't aged well, but I think some of that can be chalked up to them being a European band. Regardless, this feels like glam rock as it should be - fun as hell with absolutely killer guitar and drums.
Está cabron
cool
At first I wanted to say ''who the hell is Turbonegro and why is this album on the generator?" But, as soon as that came up, a wild series of memories came flooding back. They were somewhat familiar to me but only through snippets via Viva la Bam and Wildboyz and, as soon as those songs started, everything began to click. For me, it's not nostalgia, it is a full circle scenario hearing songs like The Age of Pamparius, Selfdestructo Bust and Prince of the Rodeo for the first time in a very long time, but in full. As for the other songs on here, there was a slight feeling of dread when it came to their titles (Rock Against Ass, Rendezvous With Anus, Don't Say Motherfucker, Motherfucker) but ultimately they caused no harm while guaranteeing a good time. A glamorous punk rock romp from beginning to end that ensures hooks that would stick inside ones head for a while. I'm glad to have reconnected with Turbonegro while hearing something new.
My friend Huw recommended this to me at least 15 years ago. Great stuff, punk, but melodic.
Excellent grungy punk. Loved it!
Amazing. The wildboyz theme. This album had it all
Whatever numbnut categorized this as "glam rock" needs to have their hearing checked or their critic card revoked. This is punk. It sits comfortably on the same part of the spectrum as The Clash and The Ramones even though it's decades younger. As such, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Maybe that's because my expectations were so low given the glam label or maybe it's just because I'm a punk kid who just gets off on guitars distorted to sandpaper roughness. Either way, this was a total joy ride for me and I'm here for it all day.
I mean wow. This is good if not great! What a suprise.
Yes yes yes
Bad Ass!
Mind Blown.
I absolutely love this album. It's this perfect mix of jackass style jokes (didn't hurt they were on the soundtrack to half of it), genuinely cool hard rock a la Motorhead, and peppered with guitar solos. It also makes me rub my fucking nipples with glee when I read reviews for metal/punk/whatever albums on here, and so many people have written that they didn't finish the album. "Ugh, too loud!" hahaha, fuck you. This is a legit 5/5 without even thinking.
Awesome.
Really good
me encanto
I think I had one turbonegro song on a Kerrang sampler one time - "No! I'm Alpha Male!" Thought it was weird, but cool! Honestly feel the same about this album. Feels like a cool Rocky-punk that clearly has some of than scandinavian metal influence in its darkness at times. Maybe a 4 or 4.5 in actuality, but I'm happy to have something new for my rotation - five stars! || Name felt weird coming from a Norwegian group, and I'm still not 100% sold on it, even with stated anti-racist beliefs and looking to call out racism in Nroway and Scandinavia. Maybe if they decide to change it they could go back to their other original name idea "Nazipenis"
Cool stuff! How have I never heard this before?
Good vibes right off the bat. I was expecting something Harder based on the name. oh shit I got chills.
This was surprisingly good, although I think that they could've sworn more. The music was "rocky" without being boring. Well worth a listen
was like wtf when i saw the band name but honestly had fun listening to this... so refreshing to see an album that doesn't take itself too seriously on this list
Well I didn’t expect to see Turbonegro pop up on the list but I’m very happy they did, it’s been years since I’ve listened to this in full. Gotta be honest I fully expected to give this five stars based on my memory of it. Obviously with a 4 I did really enjoy it but it did drag a wee bit in the middle before finishing strong. Top Track - The Age Of Pamparius or Humiliation Street
Ridiculous. I'd only vaguely heard of these guys if at all but joyful idiocy will always have a place in the rock and roll canon.
Terrible album name, awful lyrics, and almost certainly the worst band name on the entire list... I don't think Nevertheless, solid album, good tunes and I really enjoyed it when I managed to tune out the lyrics. Sounds a lot like something the rival band would be playing in a battle-of-the-bands movie. Or, actually, maybe something like Limozeen.
Good album. I have never heard of this band, but it is worth listening to.
Kuitenkin oikein kelpoa tavaraa tämmöseks rajun rokin rynkytykseks. Sikäli kyl vähän menee puuroks kun biisit on vähän samasta pakasta vedettyä ja saunditkin on hyvin pitkälti samaa koko matkalta. Ei oo tätä pumppua tullut pahemmin kuunneltua, niin en tiedä onko tää nyt heijän paras levynsä vai miten truu fänit suhtautuu. No, annetaan nyt kuitenkin vähän ekstraa räyheelle rokille.
Kinda the a peer to green day? Slightly more metal and less jokey? But only slightly. Also fun
We krijgen power-rock voorgeschoteld.
06/14 Pretty good
Would I ever play this album out in public? No. Would i ever play it for any of my friends? No. Would I ever be caught dead singing any of these lyrics? No. Are the lyrics my style? Absolutely not. Was this album fun to listen to? Absolutely. While this album is not my usual cup of tea, nor has it enticed to me to explore more of this band's discography, it was a fun listen. There's something about the guitar riffs and the band's catchy, but crude, lyrics that kept my head bopping all the way through. But I totally get why this album has a low rating, lol. Favorite track: Rendezvous with Anus
I don't really know what, or why this is but I found it to be punky, silly and good fun. I can't quite tell if they're being serious or taking the piss with the lyrical obsession with anuses and fucking. It feels like a 3-star serious album or a 4-star ironic one, so I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt here.
3.5 rounded up for a cool cover of Suffragette City.
This was a lot of dumb fun
Age of Pamparius a clairement volé l'interlude de guit du début à The Who (Won't get fooled again). Hier c'était Monkey in your soul, aujourd'hui c'est Monkey on your back (sans oublier Monkey Gone to Heaven et Everybody's got something to hide except for me and my monkey, les rockeurs aiment les singes): dans 3 jours ce sera du Bowie alors qu'on a ici une reprise avec Suffragette City.
So good. Love TN and this album.
Well this came out of nowhere. Yes, the lyrics are sophomoric. Who cares. The guitar rips. The songs are great. I'm here for this all day long.
Sweet record
this is gud - went down smoooth could easily be plopped into any tony hawk ost what's up with this band's politics btw? shilling crypto...obviously not a great name... but then you sign an anti-facist pledge to get in their fan club.
bizarrely racist top reviews for this one
Just a little wild this exists. Great energy if not a bit on the nose. Will definitely listen to this band more.
old school punk
Solid punk album, but couldn't get this to play on Spotify for some reason
Well didn't know what to expect but didn't think it would be a trip back to 70s punk. All I could hear the whole way through was the early Damned.
Never even heard of this band. Cheered up a Saturday morning!
Great Songs: Selfdestructo Bust, Rendezvouz With Anus Good Songs: The Age of Pamparius, Get It On, Rock Against Ass, Don't Say Motherfucker, Motherfucker, Zillion Dollar Sadist, Back To Dungaree High, Are You Ready (For Some Darkness), Humiliation Street, Good Head Mid Songs: Prince Of The Rodeo, Monkey On Your Back Bad Songs:
STUNNING Punk from NO copy of the Ramones but so well executed and fun
Derivative.
good album. gosh dang it it all refreshed and now the text is gone
I had a lot of friends in the early 2000s who were into Turbonegro. I never owned any albums myself but I heard them a lot, and I genuinely enjoy this. Still, there’s a part of me that suspects a large part of their appeal was that this band was a safe space to nominally straight punk boys and men to express their latent homoerotic tendencies. Rendezvous with anus, indeed.
Reminds me of The Hives
Listened in the car. A pleasant surprise! Great energy, good riffs and solos, and the jammier sections don't overstay their welcome. The lyrics are not great, and it's not the most groundbreaking sound in the world but it certainly was a fun listen!
I was surprised by this, coming in blind and with low expectations, and being hit by a wave of propulsive punk. An obvious, and superior, precursor to The Hives etc. Yeah, the lyrics are dumb, but it's only the sound and energy that matters.
40 minutes of very fun punk rock. The attitude is loose, but not the production or the performances, which are stellar. I look forward to looking further into this band- had no idea they were Scandinavian! Key track here was the immensely catchy "Zillion Dollar Sadist"
The Apocalypse Dudes is the collective noun that Len Houmous uses for his testicles 3.8 3/13 Get It On
Hahaha this is the thrash garage punk album I never expected to enjoy! The lyrics are sophomoric and barely make sense at times. But the energy level never drops. It’s just stupid fun. The album should be a bit shorter, as it certainly sticks to one style throughout, but I can’t deny that it’s a bop.
This was a fun deep dive into a band I was introduced to by Jackass, Wild Boyz, and Viva la Bam. It's irreverent punk played fast and fun and its held up well despite being almost 30 years old.
The guitars on this album are amazing! I can't remember the last time I headbanged so hard listening to a rock album. They sound like Motorhead meets Oasis. I loved it!
Loved this! Listened through I think 3 times as I was busy and wasn’t paying too much attention, but didn’t really need to, this was fun and not too serious. Overall 4.25/5 I’m sure I’ll be coming back to them
Super creative punk band
Is this as important, ground breaking, or well written as Highway 61 Revisited which I reviewed just the other day? Clearly not, but it's fun and its getting the same rating
me sorprendió
Starts of strong and quite fun
Fun album
This is a very enjoyable listen, such a fun album to listen too. The lyrics a bit suspect but that is part of the joy. I might upgrade this to a 5 after a few more listens.
This could have been an early THPS soundtrack
i listened to a few songs (not all the way through) and it would be fun at a concert venue or in a car with friends and a do like the sound a lot but it stresses me out to listen on my own
Great music… puerile lyrics. They sound like kids but their band profile pic on Spotify is recent so it looks like a bunch of biker bar leather daddy bears.
Banger after banger, just a good thrashin punk album
It was simple but enjoyable
7 - GOOD
That was fun! Big rock, lovely big rock.
Heavy post punk - polished but lotsa energy.
This gave me a greater appreciation for the Bam Margera extended universe
Quite liked it.
Bom álbum!
Who? A Norwegian hard rock band? Honestly, it was a lot of fun. I don’t even like hard/glam rock, but found myself enjoying it. Definitely not a fiver, as the style of music diverges too far from my preference, but it was a pleasant surprise. Also funny to get this right after Ziggy Stardust since it includes a bonus track version of “Suffragette City” (which rocks). 4/5
Pretty fun!
Meh
Really fun album today. Classic punk metal from the 90s. Enjoyed the full play through. Not rated higher though as nothing too stand out individually, but overall a great album.
Man this was awesome, will definitely revisit
A descendant of T-Rex and Ziggy Stardust-era Bowie and an ancestor of Cloud Nothings and Pup. Juvenile but fun.
I quite liked this album and will have to listen to their others. Yes it’s juvenile, but it’s also fun and irreverent. Not sure why it’s on this list though. 3.5/5
Ok, this wasnt the smartest album ive ever heard, but drunken me will love this. Sober me: 3 stars Drunken me: 5 stars
I know it might sound cheap, but personally, it was an album I really liked. I think it hits the sweet spot between punk and hard rock.
Goede gitaren
8/10 Favorites: The Age Of Pamparius Good Head
Electric guitars, pummelling drums and screaming vocals make for a non stop album that kicks you in the teeth from the opening song. The tempo continues throughout the whole record and is so much fun to listen too. Was a mistake to listen before bed
I had never heard of this band. I had no idea what to expect. This is an awesome album and the reason I started doing this project (to find hidden gems.) This is great punk rock music. The only negative is the lyrics... I'm not sure about some of these lyrics. I can't tell if they're trying to be funny, ironic or weird. I kinda feel like I'm someone that first listens to Ween. Great music but what the heck are they singing about? But if I listen to this more I will still like the music a lot and may begin to dig the lyrics. I really enjoyed this album.
I was really confused until I checked Wikipedia and realized the band is Norwegian. Straightforward high-energy Glam/Punk in 1998, guitarist who knows his classics, perfect technical execution, goofy and ironic but not performative, theatrical without patronizing the audience. In hindsight, Scandinavia should have been my immediate guess. The lyrics being undecipherable on first listen despite being sung pretty clearly also gives it away (and you just know they were so proud of their cool English lyrics). Overall, a very fun album. Is this stuff central to music history? No. Is it worth making and listening to? Ten times more so than another whiny Indie record.
A mimo to brzmi w jakiś sposób świeżo. Ma mnóstwo mocy i energii, czysty hard rock bez kompromisów.
Fun, energetic, incredible, explosive, enrapturing, and so much more! Big big fan of this. Weird band name, but I suppose I can let that slide? 8/10
Over the top, offensive, outlandish and ridiculous. Everything good punk music should be.
black
Never heard of these guys before. I dig it. ACDC, Norwegian punk rock.
Rokettirollia
Very much in thrall to the Dictators, and the Ramones. A refreshing change from the standard indie fare that is so prevalent across the books. It's not the future of anything but it rocks along pretty joyfully
Ja jävlar. Gick in med lätt skepsis. Najs!
A very strong 4.
Gostei. Não conhecia.
Not really my cuppa, but not a bad sound.
somewhere between glam metal and punk from norway. interesting listen.
I love this album. Just dumb punk that knows exactly what it is. Some great riffs here.
Really dumb rock n roll, but a lot of fun.
A band you don't hear about much anymore, for obvious and not so obvious reasons. Other bands like Green Day or Offspring had better success with a radio friendly sound, but this album is decent mindless fun. 3.5/5
Fucking fun. This was a good does of high I twin, balls to the wall punk rock. I will definitely be spinning this during my next meth binge.
I like it but why this album over any other punk album? I don't see why this one stands out.
I enjoyed their sound- I had never heard of this band before so I had no preconceived notions. I enjoyed the punk rock vibes.
Best album ever made, probably not. But I enjoyed the heck out of it. Had a pleasure of listening to some Turbonegro suggested in my algorithm. The album is solid from beginning to end, but lacks a bit of creativity here and there.
A surprisingly catchy album. Regularly found myself head-banging along and enjoying pretty much every song. Lyrics were a bit childish and crass for my taste, but musically there's a lot to love here. Very good hardcore punk album overall
I had never heard of this band nor this album. I loved it! Sounded like The Damned meet Cheap Trick!
Wish I had the earlier review I did. I said it’s a great fucking record from the period. I like Ass Cobra better than Apocalypse Dudes but they both cover the perfect mix of punk rock ala Danko Jones and Teenage Bottlerocket. No need to guess at the influences as they are easy to pick out with stooges and Dictators with some glam T.Rex moments. You’d be hard pressed to find a better record from Norway playing a record full of juvenile, obscene, potty humor with all of the seriousness of absolutely no one. Great fucking record. Great guitar tones and still sounds fresh today. Not perfect but still damn fucking good.
fan ändå gött!
I dug it. Sort of a punk/hard rock/metal-ish album. 4.5⭐️
Ramones and Black Flag influences
Pretty dope and fun
Enjoyed much more than I expected - decent
Surprisingly good, I'd give it a half star even more if I could. Could have used a bit more variety by the end, but still pretty awesome.
Rendezvous with Anus. What else is there to say? Music 5/5 Lyrics- make Placebo lyrics sound intellectual. 1/5
Don't say Motherfucker when you rendezvous with anus, motherfucking ass
Bad band name but solid-genre music
Hella rad. Loved Wildboyz.
This album is dumb and generic, but also fun as shit. Why would Green Day and Blink-182 get a pass when these guys get hated on for the same thing? (Speaking of which, where the hell is Blink on this list?!)
On of the band names of all time
It's DENIM ROCK!
Pretty fun, I like the groups guitar forward sound.
Some really excellent rock here, with some spots where I couldn’t handle a drone/repetitive guitar riff and clicked next. Overall pretty listenable.
Pretty enjoyable this one. Just a few dudes making loud blaring Punk Rock. This is a bit more accessible than most other Punk albums, but it doesn't really lose any appeal because of it. Prince of the Rodeo is a great song I've had saved for a while now, enjoyable listen overall.
90s-influenced punk sound 🔥🔥🔥 Extremely childish lyrics that sound like they're from 25 years before the album was released 👎👎👎
I'm really torn on this. On one hand, it's a style of music I really like, sort of a punk hair metal band, but on the other hand, a lot of the lyrics are stupid and juvenile. But Prince of the Rodeo kicks ass, so I'll bump it up to a very low 4.
3.6 Fun little listen, well produced, some good riffs and really dumb lyrics. Mix between ramones and the hives. For some reason, I likened this to the Dudesons (the Finnish stunt guy knockoff of Jackass stunt guys). Yeah, it's nothing terribly original but still manages to put a smile on my face. Maybe got a bit of a boost in the ratings as I have never heard it before and I was pleasantly surprised
Did not get the hype with this band when they were active, but I do now. This is just fun. Punk riffs, glam sensibilities, ridiculous lyrics, and, holy shit, just an irresponsible amount of pop hooks at every turn.
My Grampa always says: there is not enough anus in todays music. Now I know what he means. Fav: Get it on
Pretty Cool
Norwegian punk, ramones The age of pamparius Get it on Don't say mf-mfer
I liked this alot
I liked this. Didn't wanna listen too closely to the lyrics, but I enjoyed the energy. It had a 'Spinal Tap meet the Ramones' kinda vibe, I thought. I'll give it a 4, but really I felt it was a 3.75.
This one rocks \m/
Only heard one song before and went in thinking this would be hardcore punk. But growing up in Sweden listening to late 90s early 00s Scandinavian Rock like Hives, Hellacopter, etc; this would have been up my alley. It really has that specific vibe from just that short period. Is it a must hear, not really but it really is something i wished i'd listen to when i was young because it is really catchy Scandinavian hard rock(Even though its technically punk but i didn't really label it like that. more like garage rock) and i think i would have loved it. Being older it kinda just pass me by and i don't appreciate it as much as i would
punky, will listen again
Cool listen! I never heard of this band before. Definitely fun. Very punky. Lyrics were not impressive, but the music was great.
A bit like if Hanoi Rocks were a punk band. Cheesy. Dumb. Juvenile. Awesome.
Never heard them before. Enjoyable! ★★★★
i'm sick of acting like music can't just be a silly goofy time.
Very fun album – in your face, punky glam (glammy punk?). But if we’re going to have Norwegian bands wearing corpse paint on this list, why not have formative second wave black metal albums like Darkthrone’s “Transilvanian Hunger”, or Mayhem’s “De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas” (which should be on the list solely based on the bizarre story behind its creation). 3.5/5.0: Very Good
is this album great? no, not really. but it sure is a fun listen.
How had i never heard of this band before?
Good music and infectious riffs. This was fun.
This album is so enjoyable and intentionally stupid that makes it a funny and pleasant listening. The instrumentations are great. A really nice one, not perfect, but it doesn't have to be perfect or excellent to make you enjoy it a lot.
I typically never enjoy punk, nor post-punk albums - but this was on another level. Amazing production, great instrumentals, and an interesting band dynamic. As a person of color the band name was initially a turn off until I looked into the group. 4/5
Never listened to Turbonegro before, only saw them on other people's shirts. Must say it was a lot better than I thought. Punky, rocky, energetic and fun.
I was really surprised with how much I enjoyed this - I didn’t have the highest expectations going in as I haven’t liked the last few metal albums that have come my way but this was super fun and enjoyable. Really enjoyable rock music, a little tongue in cheek at times and very listenable.
A slab of glam-infused, punk fueled, rock 'n' roll from some Norwegian guys whose tongue is firmly planted in cheek. The album mostly maintains its momentum because no song overstays its welcome. They have a knack for understanding that a joke, a wink, or lyrical conceit should only last so long. Turbonegro seems to be doing The Darkness and The Donnas before either were out of diapers.
As much as I harp on punk, it goes really well with playing a video game about driving a train full of demons back to hell while fighting against heavenly creatures. Not sure how good this album would have been any other time, but it certainly hit me at the right moment.
Started off with some really exaggerated arena rock type music which I really liked and though t I was in for quite a wild start to a Monday morning. As the album dragged on it was still some heavy metalish punk which I liked more than normal. Some of the songs kind of started sounding the same. Went from a high 4 to still a lower 4
Finally a band that gets what punk is all about. An album that shows joy while embracing their inner trickster punks, and releasing their Id. No self pretension of self important political BS to ruin this album. Just a fast, dark, and grooving six headed hydra. The album is consistent and competent rock. Personally I enjoyed this more than the New York Dolls, The Stooges, and enjoyed on par with The Ramones. It also had some of the fun of Stormtroopers of Death without the political overtones. Favorites were "The Age of Pamparius", "Get It On", "Zillion Dollar Sadist", "Prince Of The Rodeo", "Are You Ready (For Some Darkness)". "Good Head" is hilarious. I was happy to learn, that while they broke up after this album for a variety of reasons, they have occasionally reunited. I am looking forward to checking out of some of their other discography. Now having said that, the album does rip, but it is not forward thinking and fairly derivative of the 70s glam and punk scene. I personally think if you are going to pick a rock band's album from 1998 that must be heard before you die I really think you have to go instead with a more forward looking album like VAST's VISUAL AUDIO SENSORY THEATER.
Some of the most fun punkrock I've ever heard.
Pretty solid album I’m digging it hard
Parhaat: The Age Of Pamparius, Selfdestructo Bust, Get It On, Prince Of The Rodeo, Humiliation Street
Before: interesting. No preconceptions. After: that's really cool. Straight up fun rock record. Can imagine returning to it like the datsuns, thin lizzy, the darkness as just a fun highly listenable rock out record Dated ofc. Interested to know what the band name is about. Then songs like good head feel a bit off. Prince of the rodeo and don't say motherfucker, motherfucker are both particularly brilliant
Daora demais esse aí
Pretty good
Solid punk
Why haven't I heard of these guys before! It's punk, and I like it!
I was really hoping for the album with "All My Friends are Dead" on it, but this will do I guess. Hovers between a 3 and a 4, but I'll round up as it's fun in places.
I had NO idea this is what Turbonegro sounded like, but I like it. Super high energy, and with heaps of wailing guitars across most of the record, which is very my scene. It's incredibly silly in places, but fuck it, I love that they're singing about pizza. I'm hearing parallels with bands like AC/DC and Kiss, but a bit punkier. They have that kind of fun edge to them. Maybe a hint of Ramones as others have said. All melted together in one high-octane, glam-punk-rock melting pot. It's maybe a BIT much all in one sitting, but I'll definitely check out more of these guys. Most likely this'll be an album I save, but won't return to much outside of a few tracks, but that's ok. I bet these guys were/are excellent live.
The most fun you can have with a punk album by a long shot.
I wrote a whole thing here and it didn’t get saved again not that it was gold, but I had a pretty good description of things anyways the gist of it was this band is hilarious. I had no idea what to think. Never heard of them before. Are goofy, but also pretty amazing musicians they hit all the fun tropes from punk and rock music. Definitely pulling from the stooges, New York dolls all the greats really interesting to hear this album and rocket from the crypt back to back. I feel like both bands are doing similar things. Maybe rocket is taking a more serious approach, but Turbos execution is just way better I would listen to this album Over and over again super fun to put on wall doing chores or driving with the windows down. Turbonergo you have a new fan.
This is good rock
Just fun punk rock. Some silly lyrics. Entertaining cover of suffragette city.
Got this back in April on another project. It was enjoyable then, it was enjoyable again. This time I picked out some different things, such as some influences. Definitely some Faith No More influence, maybe some Van Halen and obviously a variety of typical punk bands. They have their own sound somehow, whilst still sounding similar to others. Can't put my finger on that. Definitely worth a listen this.
Honestly banger hard rock
Findi rächt cool.
Yeah, the lyrics suck, but I'm not gonna pretend like I'd usually care a lot about lyrics. This is some fantastic guitar work.
A name I've heard many times yet never listened to. Turns out I really like it. It was a fun listen.
Good fun punk record - kind of like a proto-Hives - as in Scandinavian accents singing punk like clockwork arranged songs - yet of course varied enough to be quite cool and interesting.
Tons of fun!
Surprisingly enjoyed this, would listen again
I love it. I did not anticipate it but it was fantastic and terrible all at once. I might grow to hate this album if I keep listening to it, but for the time and place that it showed up on my playlist, fantastic. You think you had a decent pizza? Well, not like this.
This is the second album that has popped up so far that not only have I not listened to it, but it’s not on my radar whatsoever. I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised. As soon as I heard the opening riff of the first track of this record, I was down for the ride. Then I started reading the lyrics, reading about the title “The Age of Pamparius”… Where the FUCK has this record been all my life?! So you think you had an Opera? Well not like this! So you think you had a Napoli? Well not like this! So you think you had a decent pizza? Well not like this! So you think you had a real good pizza? Well not like this! [Chorus] You got nothing to lose at Pamparius Gonna wear them happy shoes tonight You got nothing to lose at Pamparius Gonna bake a motherfucking pizza tonight! If a cursory internet search is to be believed, the keyboard player owns a pizza parlour in a suburb of Oslo called Pamparius. Yes, Norwegian punk/metal/glam rock. Anthems for pizza like you’ve never fucking had before, rocking for and against Ass (aren’t we all pro-ass, yet anti-ass at the same time?), denim, and getting it on (whatever “it” it may be). Are you ready for some darkness? Yes you fucking are. Step into the night. That’s where the fun is. Put your denim jacket on, let’s go asshole.
Never heard of these guys before, but they sound a lot like the music I loved in high school. In fact I think high school me would give them an easy 5 stars. Hell 43 year old me is more than willing to give them 4.
Honestly I've heard much worse
I love these new discoveries for music - best part of this project.
4/5. Punky but also glam rock. A lot of fun. Opening song sets the tonr
Not bad. Terrible Bowie cover, but I'll forgive them for it.
Musically I found this enjoyable enough - it does a pretty good job of scratching a glam-punk itch - but the juvenile lyrics and the not-quite-correctly-used swearing really elevate it into something special. Phrases like "Rock Against Ass" and "Rendezvous with Anus" (?) are hilarious and somehow also endearing. I assume the band's in on the joke, but this works so much better for me than, say, Slipknot trying to convey "All Hope Is Gone." Several little moments that stuck with me the next day after listening... I like the guitar part that imitates a clock chime in "The Age of Pamparius." I like, "I got a headache in my pants" in "Back to Dungaree High." A selection of great track and album titles from elsewhere in Turbonegro's discography: Ass Cobra; "I Got Erection;" "Turbonegro Hate the Kids;" "The Midnight NAMBLA;" Hot Cars and Spent Contraceptives; "Shake Your Shit Machine;" "You Give Me Worms;" "Blow Me (Like the Wind);" and "Wipe It 'Til It Bleeds." And then there's this nugget from Wikipedia, "Initially, the band had two running ideas for band names: Nazipenis and Turbonegro. They were advised that a band named Nazipenis would never sell records, so they chose Turbonegro as a more consumer-friendly choice." Not sure I can safely go any further down the Turbonegro rabbit hole without reading something that makes it all fall apart, so I better leave things here.
Punk with a little bit of grunge, garage, and a lot of energy
This is pretty good. Never heard of them before. Some of the lyrics are bit _simple_ but sometimes that's okay. Musically pretty fun and well done, I can dig it.
My first inclination was to say this is a parody of American rock music, but honestly? I think this is an earnest tribute to it. Either way, these silly Norwegian guys made a great rock album. Get them some pizza already!
Feeling slightly more punk on this monday morning
Like others have said, if it weren't for the dog shit lyrics (that I hope are self aware and supposed to be funny?) this is a really fun album with a ton of great riffs.
4.5
kinda liked this one, happy to have had this one show up Will I listen to again: 90%
Great, took me by surprise, it's strong from start to finish. Though the lyrics aren't my favorite, at least the instrumental is better.
Solid album. Love punk energy and had some pretty sweet guitar solos. Nothing exactly revolutionary going on here, but it made my ears happy.
Big dumb fun
Looks like a rock and roll. Sounds like rock and roll. Must be rock and roll.
I am charmed by Apocalypse Dudes. Turbonegro did a great job combining hard rock of the eighties and glam rock of the seventies with some good old fashioned punk. And these songs are catchy! Every song is different and engaging--sometimes the title grabs your attention first, or the soft whispers opening the song, or the lyrics, or even the opening track's Apocalypse Dudes proclamation, and Turbonergo's love of denim. With all that out of the way, let's discuss these song titles. I'm obsessed. "Rendezvous with Anus"? Strong song titles have the potential to be off-putting, but with their catchy songs, I found myself admiring their daring attitudes. What's more punk rock than that? Regardless, I would love to have been a fly on the wall for these song writing sessions. 3.5, rounding up.
winner of the least serious album ever award. these guys can fucking play though, riffs and solos for days on this
It might be because I am norwegian, and understand the kind of layers of irony in the lyrics, and that my lack of english understanding makes the lyric a little less cringeworthy(because they are, and you might say that it is a kind of double standard that I have trouble listening to gangstarap with the same ethos). Anyways: this album is first and foremost fun, and 90 percent of this is because the guitarist is a fucking genius.
Ganske bra
I know the lyrics aren’t clever, but I enjoyed the general vibe of this. Reminds me a little of The Undertones and so on, which is my wheelhouse. Good length album and pretty straight down the line, but that works sometimes. I’d listen to this again.
Brainless fun
I really enjoyed this. Some of the lyrics and content were pretty juvenile, but it was pretty fun to listen to. 4.5/5
Nice and noisy!
Love the rock sound, to be honest. I liked the Bonus tracks a little more (I know they're not part of the album).
Rocks
I'm not gonna lie, this is a pretty cool album if you like punk rock infused with glam / Dictators / Stooges-adjacent tones. Just like The Hives, the Scandinavian act had all sorts of aces up its sleeves: efficient production, relentless energy, catchy riffs and sing-alongs (best exemplified by "Get It On" and infectious closer "Good Head", about looking for... blowjobs!), to which you must add a couple of timeless rock'n'roll moments where the band even reach the sky-high levels of The Who during their early-seventies apex (opener "The Age of Pamparius" ; the penultimate "Humiliation Street", with its epic climax and guitar solos, -- which you must absolutely listen to before leaving your impression about the whole album). Then, I'm not gonna lie either : the lustful, tongue-in-cheek lyrics (and tongue-on-other-body parts-as-well) might turn off some folks who would find that sort of lyrical content heavy-handed at times (or they might turn you on, conversely -- but only if you're sexually-obsessed, lol). Turbonegro's shtick as a faux-gay, leather-laced band redeems those flaws somehow -- sexual proclivities sound more transgressive as seen from the homosexual underdog lens. But that doesn't make the lyrics any brighter, just more ambiguous and open to interpretation than they really are. As usual, reception of the music and lyrical contents in this LP depends on your own horizon and expectations. And about the latter... are you catching or pitching? 3.5/5 for the purposes of this list of essential albums, rounded up to 4 8.5/10 for more general purposes (5 + 3.5) Number of albums left to review: around forty, as I've gone over the 1000 line and this generator is including albums from all editions of the book Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 455 Albums from the list I *might* include in mine later on: 271 (including this one) Albums from the list I won't include in mine: 328
Absolutely cracking. Rocks out without a care in the world, check it out.
3.6 It's rare to get a 'fun' album on this list, which is how I'd best describe this. A blend of glam/hard/punk rock, if I was 15 again I'd have been obsessed. Older and grumpier some of the songs don't land as well as they should, but on the whole it's an enjoyable album. The Stooges' sequel Humiliation Street a high point. Ending there might have helped the album, the last 3 tracks feel pointless. Might check out more from these guys now.
Surprisingly fun album. Instrumentation, tone and songwriting on this record are all tremendously superb and unique. Completely unexpected from initial reaction. Outro to Humiliation Street is a highlight. Would definitely listen again. Best tracks: - Get It On - Prince Of The Rodeo - Humiliation Street Worst tracks: N/A Rating: 8/10
Loved how this immediately took me back to the early 2000s. I wish more bands went for this sound nowadays
good record
This album fucking ruled.
Funny
I was really skeptical as soon as I heard the beginning of the first song of the album, and also this being from before the year 2000 (even slightly before that), I didn't have a lot of hope for the whole album, but I was bopping to the music by the third song. The fourth song's chore caught me off-guard and I had to double-check the name of the song just to see if I wasn't hearing things wrong. Overall, pretty nice album, and I am sad that I can't rate things out of 10, as this deserves a higher rating, but not necessarily a 4, but it is getting it because it is definitely not 3, but the instrumentals are great, the singing is alright.
I dug this.
These were a total unknown to me, so I was listening without any expectations. It’s fair to say that I enjoyed listening to this. There’s everything there I like. The sound melds elements of the Damned, Motörhead, Hawkwind, touch of the Sparks, with various other flourishes of psychedelia, hard rock, punk and glam. One I’ll be adding this to my library
Everything about this album, from the title and cover to the tracks about pizza and good head, sounds like it was AI-generated according to a prepubescent boy’s prompt…and I kind of love it?
I've recently been testing out a new strength workout for the upper body, old school HIT style... which is basically go to muscle failure where your arms are jello and you're quite possibly puking. Your brain doesn't want to let you go that far, of course, so you need to override it with some serious rocking aggression. Turns out Apocalypse Dudes was made for just this purpose.
This went way harder than I was expecting. Dudes who take their rocking so seriously that it almost seems like parody...but it's dead serious.
Amazing record. Ramones meets Judas Priest and Lynyrd Skynyrd
Wasn't sure I'd like it but I did, hurrah!
Blind album and artist. This is the stuff I hope to find exploring this project. Sounds like punk, but has some sick riffs and rhythms and the lyrics are goofy as hell but it sounds like these guys embrace it and it's just awesome! It even sounds like a blend of glam/Arena Rock with punk in a way and it goes hard.
Hysterical.
Possibly racist, probably homophobic, definitely exist. Yet the nod at the end to ripping off suffragette city is appreciated, it definitely rocks and I can't hate an album with a track called "rendezvous with anus"
Really liked this album, nice mix of punk and metal. 3.5 but I give this a bump up.
My favorite Norwegian punk band. Extra credit for having a song about a pizza place that also references calzone.
85% Best: The Age Of Pamparius; Get It On; Rendezvous With Anus; Prince Of The Rodeo; Humiliation Street Must-Hear? Sure
fast rock
How did turbonegro ever make it on to this list? One of those bands that were always on festival bills, playing O2 academies and on the cover of kerrang without me ever proper listening to them. They sound halfway between punk rock and hair metal, it's mostly fun stuff. As mentioned, some suspect song titles that seem to be filtered through a Scandinavian translation to English. I'm not sure if Id listen again but it's exactly the sort of band I want on this list, 3.5.
Some of it is a bit daft, but it doesn't sound like it was made in the 90s. Loud, fast, and fun. I listened to the album twice, Are You Ready (For Some Darkness) was my favourite track. A generous 4 stars, but I did enjoy it!
Never heard of these guys and I initially thought it was a bit silly, but after a few tracks I had fully bought into it. Really energetic kinda hardcore pop punk. Lots of "woahs" and "come ons" and power chords. Reminded me of the hives combined with pennywise..... Something felt very familiar anyway. Some nonsensical daft lyrics and song titles but I'm not sure I cared too much, as the energy was class. Spotify played some great tunes afterwards too. Reckon I'll be back. Can't quite give it a 5, but really enjoyed it. 4.5
I really wish the lyrics were better.
Surprised at this one. Gotta love Norse metal!
I kinda dug the garage rockin’ vibes of this one. They don’t seem to take themselves too seriously, which makes it more fun. However, they do seem to be confused about their relationship with the derrière. Are we rendezvousing with it or rocking against it? Either way, this was better than I expected!
Fast, heavy, dumb - 14 year old me and 27 year old me are head banging together right now - 4.5/5 So many NWOBHM elements in this, what a gem of an album. The lead guitar itself is 5/5 HOWEVER, some of the songs dragged a teeny bit (the ones without guitar solos) Also the band name is so sus it’s giving white people trying to be edgy YAWN Standout tracks: - Selfdestructo bust 5/5 - Prince of the rodeo 5/5
honestly this was pretty good. They r def trying way way too hard to be vulgar and shocking. Im getting kinda freaky Friday vibes, as in if this were a band in a movie id be like wow that was lowkey good. prolly unlikely to revisit this
7/10 - Why does good head sound like thunder from thunderstruck. I thought it was pretty good. It was just decent rock but an interesting choice for a band name.
Maybe a bit cheesy but it rocks, so I'll allow it.
My initial impression was “Jane’s Addiction doing Judas Priest covers.” That impression lasted, but in a fairly good way. Rounding up because this was a lot better than I expected.
Ok musically sometimes. Too long and annoying at the worst times. Why is this on the list? Did anyone get inspired by this, are they influential. I dont know
A surprise like! It was catchy and not too aggressive
Ok
Whoa. I don't know what I was expecting but it was not this. So-called deathpunk but I also hear that hard rocking, heavy guitar sound that Volbeat (another Scandinavian rock band) brings - maybe just not quite as much rockabilly as Volbeat later brought. Just listen to the start of The Age of Pamparius - soaring, glammy, and then with a bit of AC/DC plucking. Once they get into singing full-swing, yeah I hear the punk. But what a cool f'n opening song. Other songs I enjoyed for their uptempo, pulsing, rocking beats were Selfdestructo Bust, Get it On, Don't Say MotherF*, MotherF*, and Prince of the Rodeo. Almost like listening to Motorhead, reimagined for punk. Their lyrics are seriously demented, which also seems like a punk motif, but often they're witty. Admittedly at times they go overboard and are pure crass (Are Your Ready for Some Darkness) as you can likely tell from some of the song titles (Rendezvous with Anus, Good Head). But it's not all depravity all the time; there is a genre of rock/metal for that (wasn't sure if that was part of why these guys are on the 1,001 list). These guys are better musicians and songwriters than what is in that genre. All in all, this album was a pleasant surprise.
This album definitely RAWKS. Not super original, music-wise, but it's fun. Definitely some cringey lyrics ("Sperminator of the asshole"???) but I'd listen again. Favorite Tracks: The Age of Pamparius (I love that this rocker is about a pizzeria: "Gonna bake a motherfucking pizza tonight"), Get It On, Zillion Dollar Sadist, Prince of the Rodeo. Award for best song title of the 1001 albums so far: Don't Say Motherfucker, Motherfucker, closely followed by Rendezvous with Anus.
Had no idea what to expect by the name, but great 80's rock revival.
Surprisingly, I really liked this. Fast and furious, butmelodic and engaging. Not keen on thecover of Suffragette City, I preferred their own material
Loved this album! It's a fun rock album, very upbeat. Not the biggest fan of all the lyrics, but otherwise I think it was solid.
I mean for an album tagged with the 'Glam Punk' label - this is exactly what I'd expect it to sound like. It has a punk drive given its speed and vocal style, but it comes with all the flashy guitar solos and soaring phrases of a hair-metal band. While undeniably goofy at times with its themes, it's a pummeling experience that I'm surprised I enjoyed as much as I did - songs like 'Selfdestructo Bust', 'Prince Of The Rodeo', and 'Rock Against Ass' were genuinely such fun punk rock tracks. Its "crudeness" comes off childish, but it's just so damn catchy and dense sounding, I can't help but bob along to a song as stupidly titled as 'Rendevous With Anus'. Good stuff honestly - infectious energy all over this album.
Enjoyed it
It's butt punk! Attitude and power chords of punk, but with tons of meedlies and squeedlies and silly song titles. It's wild.
Nice find, liked this more than I expected. The punkier stuff was more fun than the glammier stuff, but it was all good
A good punk band with great marketing.
3.5
Never had heard of these norsefolk but I really liked it. I could have probably used just a little more hookiness to get me to 5 stars but I loved the sound and the energy!
very enjoyable
I have no clue why it clicked as much as it should've for me, it's probably the punk and hair metal influences digging into it, but I loved this album.
Enjoyed the album. Never heard it as an album only one or 2 song. Was surprised a lot of energy and kind of a post punk but organized and well written arrangements. Its like a step on the punk rock movement before pop punk came into the scene. The voice sounds like kids singing with some hatred inside but nothing like old school punk of abandoned or disturbed dudes just screamming and playing instruments they didnt knew how to play. Much more compex music than early punk. One of the better albums from that era. Unfortunately it didnt have a lot of airplay in USA as they were busy with hip-hop and skipped this solid LP. The 80s rock of motley crue and glam rock era mixed with hardcore punk is a great mix. Can totally see me playing tony hawk pro slater playing this album
This is a band that somehow missed me, but this is right up my alley. Very well done glam rock with attitude.
Some fine lyricism going on here. "Gimme teen machine, and i like it yes i do So young, firm and clean, and i like it, love it" "don't need no budget boob Don't need no funky lube" "Walk the streets, what do i see Shit on legs approaching me" "Eyeball ass - eyeball stuck!" "I tell you what you need, It's some hanky-action baby I wanna hear you scream in denim ecstasy" "Hi-ridin' daddy-o Spur-hump heyho let's go Fornicator of the lasso Sperminator of the asshole" "'Cause i got a headache in my pants" "Do you wanna suck the goat tonight" ""You claim the monkey shaved your balls" "Classy asses to the left and right Have you ever been laid, she said Fuck you. I'd rather have some good head" Started out thinking this was the dumbest shit I've heard but ended up enjoying it. It's fun.
