Orange Juice
3/5
Title track OK, the rest of the album is an also ran, a bit boring
2 likes
Iron Maiden
5/5
Fantastic debut album by one of the greatest hard rock bands.
Starts strong with Prowler, a great riff. Slow down with Remember tomorrow before punching into Running free followed quickly by another classic track Phantom of the opera. A couple of "album tracks" follow before the great Charlotte and finale with the title track.
A great album, well put together, it all flows smoothly. It was clear, with this album, in 1980 that Iron Maiden were going to be big.

Blondie
5/5
Fantastic album. It starts with a phone ring and then punches straight into Hanging on the telephone. One of the best "intros" of any album. The album continues with a mix of punk and new wave, fast and slow.
All in all, a very well put together album.

Malcolm McLaren
4/5
Funny album. Quite hard to decide if I like it or not but it's fairly pleasant to listen to.

Arcade Fire
3/5
A little Meh. There was nothing bad about the album, the tunes were pleasant enough but nothing inspired me to listen again. I found the vocals "whiney" on most tracks. Fine for background music
Public Enemy
4/5
Hip hop is not really my thing but the album was interesting to listen to. Plenty of attitude and each track is punchy.
AC/DC
5/5
Classic rock album, from the very first sound of the bell to the last not, it rocks throughout. The are no weak tracks.
Sufjan Stevens
2/5
Nothing good to say, parts of the album sounded like a children's musical.
Beatles
4/5
Good album, better than The Beatles' earlier stuff
Justice
3/5
I suppose this is OK for the genre, I found it a bit discordant - samples cut at the wrong point are uncomfortable to listen to.
The Cars
4/5
Not bad as a debut, a bit dated now but still quite listenable
Super Furry Animals
3/5
A bit boring really. Not sure why this is a "must listen" album. Perhaps it was more hard hitting 20 years ago?
Malcolm McLaren
4/5
Funny album. Quite hard to decide if I like it or not but it's fairly pleasant to listen to.
Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band
4/5

4/5
Soul is not really my thing but this was pleasant, some good tracks, strong vocals
The Smiths
3/5
Musically great, some very good tracks the whole album flows well.
However, I feel the whole thing is ruined by Morrissey's whiney vocals and inane lyrics. I couldn't see why the Smiths were popular at the time and still can't see it now.
Taylor Swift

Surprisingly good
Gotan Project
3/5
Not my thing, background noise only

4/5
Great rock n roll
It's a pity I heard the 2005 release which has the crowd cut back, lessening the live feel of the album but still rockin'
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
3/5
Naff
I can't stand Nice Cave's voice, the only redeeming features of this album are the tracks where someone else sings.

Roxy Music
3/5
A surprising find, Roxy music is before my time so I was only familiar with their later work.
This album starts strongly, great first side - edgy and new sounds
The second side really lets it down though, it seems to lose it's way a little
side 1 = 4* but side 2 only 3*
Blondie
5/5
Fantastic album. It starts with a phone ring and then punches straight into Hanging on the telephone. One of the best "intros" of any album. The album continues with a mix of punk and new wave, fast and slow.

Arctic Monkeys
3/5
Started strong but faded about half way. I really don't like the vocals and, other than the main single ("..dance floor..") nothing stood out at all
Charles Mingus
3/5
I'm sorry but I can't abide jazz
I'm sure this is a good example but, uurgh!
Prince
4/5
Great album from a pure genius. This is not really my favourite genre of music but I still fgind it easy to listen to with some good tracks and some great ones
Neil Young & Crazy Horse
4/5
Great album from a pure genius. This is not really my favourite genre of music but I still fgind it easy to listen to with some good tracks and some great ones
Gang Starr
3/5
Why?
I can't say why this album is in here
It's not bad, it's not good, it's just background noise
System Of A Down
3/5
An interesting band, whilst this might be where they started I found it lesser than Toxicity. It's fair enough but no tracks stood out at all
Isaac Hayes
3/5
Strange!
Nothing wrong with the actual music, Isaac does a good job of the covers but only 4 tracks? and 10 mins of pointless waffle before "By the time..."
Why would anyone want to listen to that?
Bob Dylan
4/5
Not bad, Dylan's a great songwriter (but awful singer). Like a rolling stone is the classic track from this album and the other cuts are fine, if not great
All in all, a good effort
Green Day
4/5
Great comeback album, hangs together well and all the tracks are good
The Clash
4/5
Great album, I had the US version so missed some fo the cuts here.
Johnny Cash
4/5
Great man, great album. Unlike the previous "live from a jail" album, this one actually adds something to the tracks with the banter, etc.
I do have to question why "San Quentin" was recorded twice back to back - there is little difference between the two and it seems a poor decision
Thelonious Monk
4/5
Pleasant but I just don't dig jazz
Mj Cole
3/5
Pretty middle of the road, not good or bad, just pop
De La Soul
3/5

Life is too short for this album
LCD Soundsystem
3/5
A bit dull
Harry Nilsson
4/5
Jolly, easy listening
Van Halen
5/5
Fantastic album. No rocket science, nothing ground breaking, just solid rock done well. A little dated now but still stands up
The Birthday Party
2/5
A bit crap!
I really don't like Nick Cave and this is just a dismal juvenile effort. It brings to mind a bunch of unwashed teenagers in their mom's basement
Run-D.M.C.
3/5
Hip hop not really my thing but run dmc are ok to listen to
Seems a bit basic, little depth to the music. Only one song popped out "Like that" and I've heard better versions

A bit weird, not bad but nothing special
The Velvet Underground
3/5
Not really my thing, a bit dull
Shivkumar Sharma
4/5
Beautiful peaceful album
Syd Barrett
3/5
Hmm
I've never been a fan of Syd Barret. The best thing that ever happened to Pink Floyd was his leaving.
Whilst this album is slightly better than the early PF work, it's still weird and not to my taste at all. I would place it in the genre of "drug addled". Probably sounds better if you're as off your head as Syd must have been at the time.
Grant Lee Buffalo

Einstürzende Neubauten
2/5
Another noise album
Hard to find any musical merit in this one, sounds like teenagers in a garage playing with Dad's instruments.

Dated

A bit so-so to be honest. This album may be a little more sophisticated that previous ones but lacks the power. Born To Run is full of great anthems and is just fun.
I found this album to be just background music, fine during dinner or at a club while you're busy doing something else but I wouldn't listen to it for itself
