Album Summary
CrazySexyCool is the second studio album by American girl group TLC. It was released on November 15, 1994, by LaFace and Arista Records. Following the group's record deal, they released their debut album Ooooooohhh... On the TLC Tip in 1992 to positive reviews and commercial success. The following year the group began working on a follow-up with an unproductive recording process due to personal struggles, notably those of member Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes who was involved in a volatile romantic relationship and struggling with alcoholism. The album's recording lasted until September 1994, with Lopes' role diminished because she was in rehab. The album saw the group reunite with producers Dallas Austin, Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds and Jermaine Dupri as well as new collaborators Organized Noize and Chucky Thompson, and also featured contributions from Sean "Puffy" Combs who helped with the notable hip hop soul sound. CrazySexyCool featured hip hop beats, funk, deep grooves, propulsive rhythms and smooth production. The album's lyrical content was seen as a departure from the group's debut and was seen as a coming-of-age project which explored themes such as sexuality, romanticism, inexperience, and youthful optimism. CrazySexyCool was met with critical acclaim and commercial success, peaking at number three on the Billboard 200, where it spent over two years. It has been certified 12-times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), making TLC the first girl group in history to be awarded diamond status. CrazySexyCool has since sold over 15 million copies worldwide, becoming the best-selling album by an American girl group. The album has since been featured on Rolling Stone magazine's list of The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, included in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die and was listed as a "New Classic" by Entertainment Weekly in 2008. The album was also ranked as the seventh best diamond-certified album of all time by Billboard.

The repetitive drumming (?) sound on Waterfalls is so annoying. It’s like the triangle on Yeah by Usher. Not sure how it took me this long to get irritated by it. The album has a lot of jams. Most of the obligatory 90s r&b album interludes are fine. Of course, the stupid toilet one had to have Diddy in it. Solid album, but not the best representation of the genre. Fav song: Let’s Do It Again
Not listened to before. I knew a couple of songs which were ok
Tengo sentimientos encontrados, por un lado entiendo que este álbum puede estar en esta lista pero no le veo la relevancia honestamente.
Good music released by people that take their record label hostage. What’s not to like.
Not usually into this type of music but this slaps
Never in my life did i think i’d be listening to waterfalls outside of a supermarket. I also never thought I would enjoy the album Waterfalls is on. Very fun and it gets straight to the point. You can tell that this group had influence on people like Beyonce and Alicia Keys
Amazing album
Good album, a little too slow sometimes for my liking.
Seems like everyone had a copy of this when it was new. Iconic singles that still sound great. The other tracks are up and down.
I enjoyed it. Reminds me of the stuff my dad used to play when I was a kid. I liked the Outkast feature on the last song
What if I want to chase waterfalls
You heard her.. dont chase waterfalls!! Just dont, she wrote that song for a reason.
mid
I mean I remember this from my youth. Great R&B album, but a surprising listen 32 years later. Hard to believe I listened to this as a teen! Great album tho.
Hip hop
Мне не слишком понравилось. Хип-хоп это точно не мое и я не дослушала.
I’m sure it’s got its place, but hopefully wherever that is, it’s as far away from my ears as possible. 2
This grooves
-2 just for the skits tbh
Well I guess I must give this a 3 expected to give a 2 but forgot how many songs on here I know and embarrassingly enjoy.
Solid album, especially by 90s pop standards
Not even through the lens of '90s nostalgia am I able to enjoy this.
To say TLC was everywhere in the I’d 90’s would be a massive understatement. And this album is why. “Creep”, “Waterfalls”, “Red Light District” and “Diggin’ on you” were all over radio and MTV. Plus they collaborated with all the big names in southern hip hop. It was a true cultural phenomenon.
meh
Without the attatched tn of lived experiences I don’t feel too moved one way or another about this album. The trio is super talented and has enough to say, but it stops short of being amazing. “Diggin On You” was the first stand out track to me, as it had some really interesting production choices that sound right out of Donkeykong Country. “Red Light Special” was an ideal intimacy track, just the right amount going on in the instrumental and some laser-sharp vocals. I’m big on interludes and little ideas being used as immersive techniques but the interludes were a few too many for no good reason. Andre3000 at the end was a jumpscare 3/5 very mixed feelings. Does some things really well, also has a few too many gimmicks
First things first: "Creep" and "Waterfalls" are the best songs on here because they're indisputable bangers. TLC might not have had the huge overpowering voices of their R&B girl group contemporaries, namely Destiny's Child, but they more than made up for it with all the personality they showed on this, their signature outing. You won't find anything necessarily considered "groundbreaking" on this album as it borrows mostly from the R&B of the early 2000s it came up in. What sets it apart is the boom-bap influence - between the drums and the rapping from TLC's members, you could consider this a hip hop soul album at some points. "Waterfalls" is a song firmly planted in that genre. Again, this album doesn't have anything really mind-blowing per se, but it is a good document of where R&B was going as the world entered the new millennium. Like many of the most commercial releases before and after it, the best songs with the most invested in them are the singles. The deep cuts don't do much in the way of introducing new concepts, and the interludes - another symptom of its hip-hop influence - are just kind of...there. I think a listener will get a lot out of this album if they're big fans of 2000s R&B and its whispery, airy production that betrays just how damn horny it is, because this album is a prime example of that sound. Key Tracks: Creep, Diggin' on You, Waterfalls, Take Our Time
They're better than destiny's Child and one my wife's favourite groups.
This is one of those albums that’s just a product of its time the songs that are trying to be sexy and edgy just come across kind of boring and a little bit corny…it’s very dated 90’s R&B
There were some huge hits on this album, but revisiting them 30 years later was no fun. The beats are weak and the vocals don’t sound great. I’m not an R&B fan but I can appreciate great vocals and funky beats. This album was a chore to get through.
Not impressed. Waterfalls and creep did it for me. And I was pleasantly surprised by sexy-interlude. 2 rats
Overproduced, generic, derivative, nasal. 90s hip hop white girls who wore Fubu listen to.
Got some soulful grooves, just not really my thang
Did not do much for me. It was a pop album without much surprises, I will not be listening again.
Yeah, I could go for some TLC, the R&B girl group of Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins, Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes, and Rozonda "Chili" Thomas. They certainly had a successful run during the 1990s, hitting their stride with their second album, CrazySexyCool. Of course, the big hits like "Creep" and "Waterfalls" still work wonders, but even deeper cuts like "Kick Your Game", "Case of the Fake People", and "Switch" are still remarkable in their well-produced, vicious dismissals of backstabbing men, while still looking for that lasting relationship on songs like "Let's Do It Again" and "Take Our Time". Along the way, each member got to shine in addition to the harmonious vocals, with special praise given to Left Eye for her distinctive rap flow on the aforementioned "Kick Your Game" and "Switch", which was amazing given her limited input on the record as a result of her rehab at the time. It all culminates well in the closing track "Sumthin' Wicked This Way Comes", as the three women and André 3000 of OutKast come together amidst the crunchy guitars, looking for that time to heal after being wronged for so long. I'm not going to say this album's perfect. Besides the unevenness of the three women's involvement on the record and the loss of the androgynous subtext in covering Prince's "If I Was Your Girlfriend", I just didn't care much for the interludes here. Aside from the staged crank call of "Sexy-Interlude", they didn't offer much other than repeating the name of the album and generalized hype coming from the likes of Phife Dawg of A Tribe Called Quest, producer Jermaine Dupri, rapper Busta Rhymes, and... ughhh, Sean "Diddy" Combs. Yeah, he had a hand in writing and producing a few of the interlude tracks and the cover of "If I Was Your Girlfriend", as he was making a name for himself as a producer around this time with the likes of this album, Notorious B.I.G.'s Ready to Die and Mary J. Blige's My Life. At best, his involvement here has made his record age weirdly, given the prevalent sexual themes throughout and what we would later know the man for. Still, I had a good time with Crazysexycool. I do think the actual songs more than make up for any gripes I had with the interludes. Of course, TLC would enjoy more commercial success with their following record, FanMail, with its lead single, "No Scrubs". But sadly, Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes died tragically in a car crash, and the group would never be the same again.
Jeg syntes egentligt, at den holdt et ret godt niveau, og der var også en vis nostalgi både i den generelle lyd og hits, der trak op. Men ak, for lang og for mange interludes. Så vi ender på en stor 2'er.
If they didn't chase waterfalls in the first place, they would have never made an album this good. Favorite Track: "Waterfalls".
Wasn't my thing in 1994 and still isn't. I'm not an R&B family and from what I gather from "Creep" (250M listens), they were all looks and no vocals. It's no surprise none of them had a solo career after TLC folded. Again, she can't sing a lick in that low register, but the hook on "Waterfalls" (606M) is undeniable, it's a good pop song. It sounds so dated and forgotten from the start. Vanilla from top to bottom! Not impressed. 2 stars.
Incredible
TLC held a large space in the 90s soundtrack. This album laid out new girl group territory that only En Vogue matched in any way. Baby Face and Lisa Lopes provide some great music and lyrics. “Creep”, “Waterfalls”, “Kick your Game all have the elements of the title of the album. Their cover of Prince is derivative and doesn’t add anything to the song. And the toilet joke interlude after sucks.
A massive album way back when whose title really kind of does it justice. Three distinct, harmonious voices, killer singles, and production that’s warm and lush. I was unfamiliar with it beyond its singles, which I love, until yesterday but it’s a really excellent example of 90s r&b.
Made me a little horny at times not going to lie. It has some filthy lyrics and walking around the park listening to a girl climax and then implying she is on the bog threw me. Lets be honest though aside from Waterfalls which is a classic and Creep that is also very good. It has some really good bass lines and the mix of Mr Big stuff was good too. However it lacked it lyrically it wasn't that strong and it was a little thrown away. Nothing stayed with me it also felt dated and a lot of other artists such as Lauren Hill, Destiny Child and Missy Elliott and Brandy were doing it so much better. Some nice elements but just something to pop on in the background with the missus and I'm single
6/10
Decent
Great production. One of the biggest singles of the 90s. Not a great album though
Don't go chasing waterfalls. Not bad album. The whole thing has a strange tone I can't put my finger on. But it was very enjoyable
Good r&b. I liked this. Diddy is pretty annoying though. He should just shut up on these tracks.
I grew up hearing the three big hits on this album and even heard the Weird Al parody of Waterfalls (“Phony Calls”) a hundred times. I had never purposely sat down and listened to this entire album though. Crazysexycool is a very mid-90’s R&B album with jazz horn and choruses that are repeated over and over. The name of the album is very accurate though, as Lisa Lopes was a bit crazy at times. TLC grew up a lot between their 1992 album and this one. The progress in their sound is obvious over the two years between albums. 5 of the 16 songs are interludes, which is also a very 90's thing to do. The interludes almost become more frequent than the actual songs. The album tapers off a bit towards the end into more generic sounding R&B, but overall, this album probably deserves inclusion as an artifact from the 90's R&B girl group sound. My favorite songs: Creep Diggin' on You Red Light Special Waterfalls If I Was Your Girlfriend
Det får en fyra på grund av några ikoniska låtar, men över lag är det mest helt okej.

Like almost all the hip-hop records on this list, it's longer than it need be but they definitely had something and Waterfalls has always been a fantastic song.
Wanted to like this more than I actually did. It ended up being a very 3 album, uneven. I blame Puffy. 3
Back in 1994, I was a 9-year-old and lacked interest in TLC. That's why I'd say I had only heard their biggest hits before (Waterfalls and Creep). Based on one listen, CrazySexyCool is a solid album, though it is marred by inconsistency and unnecessary interludes
don't go chasing waterfalls baby. de rest is eigenlijk te weinig zeggend.
I remembered that TLC was crazy, sexy, and cool back in 1994. What I hadn’t remembered was that they had a pretty good funk band backing them up, which shaped their soul-hip-hop sound. When I saw the cover, I expected that “CrazySexyCool” would have aged pretty badly, but the opposite is true. The only thing I find a bit unnecessary are the intros that were common in the ’90s; from today’s perspective, it’s a bit jarring that TLC apparently needed a male colleague for that. It’s not really my kind of music, but it’s still an album that, in retrospect, turns out to be a milestone.
Creep is a banger. Waterfalls still a classic tune. Prince cover is unexpected but a good version. Smooth 90s RnB production throughout, Diggin' On You is the only track that sounds a bit shit production wise, but it's a bit of a drag of a song anyway. The theme of the album is we like sex, let's sing songs about sex. Skits/interludes, always a curse on an album, are uniformly terrible here also, album would be better if all 5 (!) were just jettisoned. It's ok enough if the skits weren't there. 6/10
292.
I remember liking this a lot more when it first came out. Waterfalls is still a great track, but the rest of the album just passed me by in the background without really letting me know it was there. Shame, as I’d not hear this is years and quite fancied hearing it again. Suspect it may be another 20 years plus before I do so again, if ever.
Kind of slipped by. Not sure the Prince cover works.
This had less TLC on it than I expected - which was a shame
Unfortunately much of the album is not super memorable or interesting outside of Waterfalls and Creep. I guess the skits are memorable too but they're not very good. The songs are also often held back by feeling pretty dated.
Solid album. Suffers from the corny skits that plague albums from this era, but overall good.
This feels really basic in a lot of ways. Some of these beats honestly feel like I could've learned to play them with a week of training. I get that this is going for a vibe but there's almost nothing here. Waterfalls is catchy. This should've been a couple of singles instead of an album.
As pop songs, I like Waterfalls and don't mind Creep. I might not understand it yet, but for me there is no soul in this style of production. As an album aside from it's singles it's forgettable.
I TLCouldn't be bothered.
feels outdated
I'm just not a fan of pop R&B, but this might be as good as it gets.
Great vocal sound. The relaxed beats work really well with it.
My era. Good to listen to
6.4/10
Pure ‘90s nostalgia. I don’t listen to R&B, but as a teen when this came out, there was no escaping it. Still not a bad listen, and more enjoyable than a lot of R&B, but still not something I’m going to choose to listen to.
Bra.
What an unexpectedly not great album...
1. "Kick Your Game" 2. "Creep" 3. "Waterfalls"
2 - Waterfalls is good
There are parts of this album that I like but I really don’t like the whispering in the interludes. A few songs I already knew pretty well, and a couple I didn’t know that I liked. Then there were a few that weren't really for me. And I didn't like the interludes. Probably not one I'll come back to, but it did have some good moments. Fav song: Waterfalls Least fav: Kick Your Game
Quite like the vibe throughout the whole album , although it has the classic 90s 2000s skits which I don’t like. Some hidden gems in here though. Specific rating - 4.0 Fav song - waterfalls Least fav - take our time
Just because you keep saying it's crazy, sexy and cool doesn't make it so. Other than waterfalls the whole album was fairly underwhelming and occasionally a bit annoying. And I hate an interlude. Favourite song: Waterfalls Least: Red Light Special
Pretty solid album but not quite a 5er
Just didn't really connect with it. I know it's supposed to be smooth and chill, but to me it was a bit boring.
I respect this even though I do not like it.
Quite liked a number of the tracks. Can do without the male rappers and various interludes
Some of this was good, some was bad. Waterfalls is great. Not how I expected it to sound.
Nah. 2/5
Fun and sexy vibe throughout makes this a fun album to listen to, especially during intimate moments. Waterfall is a keeper for all times.
Waterfalls is still perfect, last track is great, but overall 2.5
good
Naw
Enjoyed the big hitters on this but got creeped out when i heard Diddy's voice and smelled the baby lotion
1994 R&B, hip-hop soul Me gusta mucho la mezcla del instrumental y la voz especialmente, en las canciones menos hip-hop
Interesting production. Why does the one girl sound weirder than the rest
I would like to formally apologize for my rating of purple rain at 3 stars, I was not fully concentrated on listening and missed the masterpiece of music the album has to offer. 5 stars. This one’s pretty good.
Pretty decent listen overall, no complaints.
The first thing I noticed while listening to this album is that it is so carbonated to the mid-90s. They may have hit on the sound a little early on than most but this is 95 R&B to a T. That being said that's not necessarily my favorite R&B era but they are better at it than most of the groups that were running around. The two biggest hits "Creep" and especially "Waterfalls" we're a couple of the biggest highlights but I probably think my favorite section of the album overall was the final three songs, "Can I Get A Witness", "Switch", and "Sumthin' Wicked This Way Comes", and off the album on a really high note. Most of the interludes though on this album were less than stellar, consisting mainly of them repeating the name of the album ad nauseam. I don't even want to talk about the sexy interlude. On all there is enough good material on this album to actually say that I like it though I think the five songs that I highlight were pretty much all I ever really want to listen to this album again 7.34 ★★★½
Okay rnb. 3 stars
This album was okay. I think it's kind of interesting as far as 90s R&B goes, with its inclusion of hip-hop influences (Phife Dawg and Andre 3000 make appearances!). But as is the problem with a lot of R&B from this era, it relies way to heavily on the slow jam, for which my tolerance is low. Still, there's some good stuff here, particularly "Waterfalls". 3 stars.
Tasty something somethings that’s for sure. Really slinky sensuous sexy cool smooth jams. Very horny. Can sense the waterfalls gushing from their southern hemispheres (waterfalls in heaven in the case of Lisa Left Eye Lopez. “Would you know my name, if you creeped me in heaven? Would it be the same, sticking to the rivers and the lakes in heaven?). A pair nice number one hits. A load of other super nice sexy jams in the first two thirds of the record including a smexy chill cool Prince jam. Album goes to toilet with the toilet interlude - didn’t work for Mille Jackson in terms of look, doesn’t work here in terms of interlude. Some real dross boring jams shoved near the end and last song is polluted by Andre 3000 but the record deserves a 4 on the strength of the first two thirds.
An incredible album
oh absolutely
