Haven't heard of this before. A Serbian man making Brazillian music on paper sounds fascinating and I wish I liked it but it's so deeply mediocre.

Peter Gabriel

Heard it before a million times. ONE OF THE BEST ALBUMS EVER. Peter Gabriel's voice is like a hug when you're sad. There's not a single bad song on this album. I love it so much.

Heard some songs from it before. And as somebody who was really into 90s British music when I was a teen I can just TELL that the author of this list must've been a teen/young adult in the 90s in the UK because there's no other explanation for why somebody would think this album a must-listen for everybody around the world. The tracks I like from it I do like, but as a whole it isn't exceptional in any way.

Kings of Leon
1/5
Only heard their most popular singles so it was funny listening to their first album that has a different sound. Don't know if I'm a fan of this sound tho, just your regular boring garage rock revival. Molly's Chambers sounds almost exactly like Dress by PJ Harvey, she should sue. Hardly a revolutionary or original album.

The Cars

It's alright, nothing revolutionary. It feels no different from other similar artists from the same era. Actually, the other artists were doing it way better. Doesn't really feel like an album that is a must listen.
2/5
Jurassic 5
3/5
Haven't heard of them before (I'm not too knowledgeable when it comes to hip hop) so I had no expectations for this one. I was pleasantly surprised! Really good instrumentals and the rap had a nice flow (will read the lyrics later, my non-native ears are bad at understanding rap in English). It was fun to hear Nelly Furtado on one song too. My only complaint is that the album is a bit too long, it could've been 5 songs shorter.
3/5
Elton John
3/5
Heard it before. Tiny Dancer is an absolute classic and makes me emotional, one of my favourite songs by Elton. The title track is another highlight of the album. Overall a nice album.
3/5
The Flaming Lips
1/5
I've heard of The Flaming Lips before but never checked them out. Let's just say after this album I will need another 20+ years to listen to them again. I like indie/alternative but this album is an example of alt rock that I hate. No interesting melodies, no interesting moments, the album dragged on and I was already waiting for it to end after the 3rd song.
1/5
Eagles
2/5
I've only heard one song from this album before (you can guess which one) so I knew what sort of vibe it will have. The album was alright but also nothing stood out to me. Didn't have a bad time listening to it though, so I can't say it was bad. Just not spectacular.
2/5
A Tribe Called Quest
2/5
According to my Last.fm stats I've heard the first song from this album some time ago but it was my first time listening to the album in full. While I do enjoy the general vibe the album failed to make me pay attention to individual songs, they kind of blended together for me and started sounding samey after a while. I get that it's an important and influential album but it's... just not for me.
2/5
Stevie Wonder
2/5
Nothing but respect for Stevie but most of the albums generated for me thus far have been rather slow paced and this is yet another one. At least the instrumentals are interesting in this one and there's a bigger variety between songs. Not really good for a rainy lazy day like today though, I need something more energetic.
2/5
Suede
4/5
Heard it before. The Asphalt World used to be my song to look at the wall and be sad to. This Hollywood Life is another track I love. The overall mood of the album is quite gloomy but I think I like it better than their first album. Feeling generous today so I'm giving it 4/5
2Pac
2/5
The generator is generating a lot of hip hop albums for me for some reason. I've heard some 2pac tracks before but this is my first time listening to a full album. Eh, sorry but not my thing. I think I'm coming to the realization that I'm a music over lyrics person and hip hop is a genre where lyrics are the main and most important part. So that means I just don't really care about any particular track on this album because I just don't pay attention to any lyrics when the instrumentals are quite samey.
2/5
Elvis Costello & The Attractions
1/5
Heard it before and don't remember liking it. Elvis Costello is just so lame to me I can't force myself to like him. I keep forgetting he's from the UK so listening to him I feel as if I'm listening to an American doing an imitation of British rock from the 70s. The vibes are just off. Allegedly the 1001 list has a bunch of his albums and I don't think I'm gonna survive this.
1/5
Portishead
5/5
Heard it before, multiple times. One of the best trip hop albums ever, the vibe is unmatched. Period.
5/5
AC/DC
2/5
I'm pretty sure I must've heard this album before because my dad is a fan. Meh? It's not the most terrible thing I've ever heard but their signature sound makes all the songs sound the same basically. And I just don't like AC/DC in general.
2/5
Barry Adamson
2/5
Heard some songs from it before. And as somebody who was really into 90s British music when I was a teen I can just TELL that the author of this list must've been a teen/young adult in the 90s in the UK because there's no other explanation for why somebody would think this album a must-listen for everybody around the world. The tracks I like from it I do like, but as a whole it isn't exceptional in any way.
2/5
The Rolling Stones
2/5
This is my punishment for saying that all Rolling Stones tracks sound like nothing to me yesterday. This album doesn't help. The songs are fine but I still have no idea how people recognize that it's The Stones before Mick starts singing. I feel like I could've heard the same songs on different artists' albums. What a nothingburger.
2/5
Queen Latifah
1/5
Oh, late 80s rap is not my thing I guess. This type of beat and flow just feels a bit silly to me.
1/5
Peter Gabriel
5/5
Heard it before a million times. ONE OF THE BEST ALBUMS EVER. Peter Gabriel's voice is like a hug when you're sad. There's not a single bad song on this album. I love it so much.
5/5
The Dictators
1/5
Never heard of them and for a good reason it seems. On principle I'm skeptical of American bands from the 70s that are called punk because I think The Ramones are one of the most embarrassing bands ever. This band here? About as proto-punk as Cher whose cover is on this album for god knows what reason. The Stooges were 10 times more proto-punk 6 years earlier. The Dictators clearly haven't heard of them.
1/5
Supergrass
3/5
Heard it before. It's a fine album but once again hard to call it an essential album to listen to when they weren't even one of the major bands during the britpop era. But all that aside it's still quite ok.
3/5
Giant Sand
3/5
Never heard of them. I was a bit scared when I saw that on Spotify most songs from this album have under 100k streams but I didn't have a terrible time listening to this. Doesn't sound like a groundbreaking album but I needed some calming music so that's nice. Giving it a generous score.
3/5
Blur
4/5
Heard it before. The first album where they tried dropping their goofy britpop shtick (but still some songs are goofy-ish). What can I say, I have some nostalgia for Blur. 13 is better though.
4/5
R.E.M.
3/5
Heard it before. Not my favourite R.E.M. album but it's R.E.M. so I cannot say a bad thing about them, it's still a good album.
3/5
Kendrick Lamar
3/5
Heard it before. Not massively into Kendrick but this album is the best I've heard from him I think. The instrumentals on this one are interesting, especially Wesley's Theory. But the album is toooo loooong.
3/5
The Chemical Brothers
2/5
Heard other Chemical Brothers albums before and sadly this one lacks something. Or maybe it's just because I'm in a different mood today. But there are no real bangers on the album.
2/5
Emerson, Lake & Palmer
3/5
First time listening to a full album of their original material (heard Pictures at an Exhibition before). The first prog track was a bit lacklustre but the other songs were quite fun. I'm generous so let's give them 3/5
Oasis
4/5
Heard it before. First two Oasis albums are really solid. But I think I like Morning Glory more than Definitely Maybe. Still, some great songs on this one and a nice time.
4/5
Röyksopp
2/5
Haven't heard of them before. A really chill album, even too chill I'd say. Good as background music but not much else
2/5
Motörhead
3/5
When it comes to Motorhead I probably only know Ace of Spades. I didn't know what to expect from a live album but this album was a surprise. It was enjoyable, even if none of the songs made a strong impression on me. Bonus points for having a song titled Capricorn (RIP Lemmy, a fellow Cap).
3/5
Sister Sledge
3/5
Heard two songs from it before. What a nice album, equally chill but also making me want to dance.
3/5
Tracy Chapman
4/5
SO I REMEMBER WHEN WE WERE DRIVING, DRIVING IN YOUR CAR SPEED SO FAST IT FELT LIKE I WAS DRUNK CITY LIGHTS LAY OUT BEFORE US AND YOUR ARM FELT NICE WRAPPED 'ROUND MY SHOULDER AND I-I HAD A FEELING THAT I BELONGED I-I HAD A FEELING I COULD BE SOMEONE
(Heard it before. Wonderful album. 4/5)
Nitin Sawhney
1/5
Haven't heard of this before. A chill, background music-esque album about nuclear weapons doesn't seem appropriate to me. The concept of this album aside, purely musically it isn't interesting either. Actually after a while the sound of the album started to be annoying. Another strange pick from the author of the original book.
1/5
Adam & The Ants
3/5
I've heard some Adam Ant songs before but never a full album. For some reason I've always thought he's goofy and kinda avoided him. But the album is quite alright, cannot say no to 80s music.
3/5
3/5
Heard it before. I think I need to preface it by saying that I don't like U2 except for a couple of songs. The most popular songs from this album, With Or Without You especially, are aaaawfuuul. On the other hand Bullet The Blue Sky is a MASSIVE banger. I don't think I will ever become a fan of U2 but at the same time I don't hate the album? It's hard to articulate my feelings.
3/5
Fatboy Slim
2/5
Heard a different Fatboy Slim album before and my conclusion is that I don't like his style. His biggest hits are really good but everything else is just kinda meh? It's not terrible, just not memorable
2/5
Beatles
3/5
Heard it before. I know it's regarded as one of Beatles's best albums (or even the best album) but... I will be real with you I never understood it. It might be where they started experimenting with different things but I don't vibe with it. It still has great songs though
3/5
AC/DC
2/5
Probably heard it before because my dad is a fan. This is the 2nd AC/DC album I got from the generator and honestly wouldn't be able to tell them apart. Their signature sound really makes everything sound the same.
2/5
Taylor Swift
1/5
Only heard two most recent Taylor albums in full but never this one except for the singles. The title of the album is so funny considering how 2014 it sounds (and looks when it comes to the album cover). This particular brand of pop music is not something I like, it just sounds so juvenile. I don't want it to look like I hate the album just because it's Taylor (hell, I thought Midnights was an OK album) but she really just doesn't make music that appeals to me in any way
1/5
Kings of Leon
1/5
Only heard their most popular singles so it was funny listening to their first album that has a different sound. Don't know if I'm a fan of this sound tho, just your regular boring garage rock revival. Molly's Chambers sounds almost exactly like Dress by PJ Harvey, she should sue. Hardly a revolutionary or original album.
1/5
Sigur Rós
2/5
Heard it before. In general it's not my vibe but I can appreciate the calmness of the album
2/5
Dr. Dre
1/5
Only heard some Dr. Dre hits before. What I'm finding out from my listening journey is that g-funk is not my thing. Like, totally not my thing. Not a single song on this album that I even vaguely enjoyed.
1/5
Elliott Smith
3/5
Heard it before. Not my favourite Elliott album, I think I prefer him without a band. But it's a nice album anyway.
3/5
Yes
4/5
Heard it before. I think it's one of the more accessible prog albums, the tracks are really dynamic and interesting.
4/5
Iron Maiden
3/5
Obviously I've heard some Iron Maiden songs before but never a full album. A solid metal album, what can I say
3/5
The Only Ones
2/5
According to my lastfm stats I've heard one song from this album before but I genuinely don't remember it and was dead sure I don't know them. Well, after listening to the album I can say I didn't miss out on much. Not awful but also there was nothing truly interesting on the album either.
2/5
Nirvana
5/5
Heard it before god knows how many times. For nostalgic reasons Nirvana has a very calming effect on me. Make them play acoustic and now it's extreme calmness to me. I love everything about this album. Surprisingly the songs I like the most on this album are the Meat Puppets covers, they just work so well.
5/5
Minutemen
1/5
Heard of the band but haven't listened to their music (although according to lastfm I listened to one song from the album aaages ago). This album is so messy and not in a good way. As we say in Polish, every song "is from a different parish". It just sounds so... random and has way too many tracks. And it's not a type of punk I enjoy. The only surprising thing from this album is the Jackass intro song?? I had no idea it's their song
1/5
Norah Jones
2/5
Heard of her but never heard her music. It sounds like something they'd play as background music at a cafe which in general is not good. But I'm single on Valentine's Day so this jazzy sad music works for me today. Still, not something I'd listen to often really
2/5
Def Leppard
3/5
Heard songs for it before. When it comes to the genre that's one of the more quality bands. But (bestie don't kill me) I'm not a big fan of the genre. Giving it a good score because the album does sound nice.
3/5
Steely Dan
3/5
Heard a different Steely Dan album before. With this one I'm conflicted. On the one hand no songs really stood out to me. On the other I kinda liked the album? Something intriguing about it
3/5
Moby
3/5
Heard it before. It's a really good album, honestly. One of those things you listen to when you need to chill. But I'd remove a couple of songs because it's a bittttt too long
3/5
Black Sabbath
2/5
Heard it before. Honestly seeing the release year is a little crazy, truly an influential album. That said, I don't have any strong feelings when it comes to the songs
2/5
Orbital
3/5
Was dead sure I've heard some Orbital album before but turns out not. I was skeptical at first but turned out that it's quite an intriguing album. Some other electronic/instrumental albums that I got thus far were quite underwhelming but this one has this special something that I enjoyed
3/5
Spiritualized
3/5
Heard a different Spiritualized album before. Surprisingly quite nice. Got a little bored towards the end but overall I enjoyed the album.
3/5
Amy Winehouse
3/5
Heard it before. It's a sweet album but I prefer Back to Black
3/5
White Denim
2/5
Haven't heard of the band before. Honestly, there are some quite interesting ideas on this album but ultimately not something I'd go back to or enjoy casually
2/5
Red Hot Chili Peppers
4/5
Heard it before. Dang dong dang dong dang dong ding deng
4/5
David Bowie
4/5
Heard it before. A classic, it includes one of my favourite Bowie songs (Cracked Actor).
4/5
The Offspring
2/5
Only heard some singles before. Genuinely just not my thing but Dexter Holland is my birthday buddy so I cannot say a bad thing about him
2/5
The Cardigans
3/5
Heard a different Cardigans album before in full (and of course I know Lovefool). What a coincidence, I was thinking about Nina Persson yesterday. The album is really lovely. The Iron Man cover took me by surprise, quite unexpected.
3/5
The Mars Volta
2/5
Heard it before. Just not my thing, honestly. It's boring prog to me
2/5
Sam Cooke
3/5
Heard some Sam Cooke songs before. What a sweet, heartwarming album
3/5
Curtis Mayfield
4/5
Heard some Curtis Mayfield songs before. Wow what a great album
4/5
The Kinks
3/5
Only heard Village Green in full before, and from this album Sunny Afternoon. Face to Face is a good album but I'm a Village Green girl
3/5
Paul Simon
3/5
Only heard 2 songs from this album before. And honestly? It is quite a good album but a mixed bag. Graceland is miles better.
3/5
Big Star
1/5
Heard of the band before but somehow never listened to them. Oh boy, this album is just background music. Literally nothing interesting or exciting going on musically
1/5
Steve Winwood
2/5
Heard some of Steve's songs before (thank you for your accidental contribution to electronic music). This album is quite boring though. It's like somebody tried recreating Peter Gabriel's music from memory
2/5
Nanci Griffith
2/5
Haven't heard of her before. Can't say I know a lot about country but it was a pleasant album
2/5
Talking Heads
3/5
Heard it before. Never thought of it as an essential Talking Heads album so it's a bit strange to see it on the list. But anyway, still quite a good album
3/5
2/5
Haven't heard of this before. A Serbian man making Brazillian music on paper sounds fascinating and I wish I liked it but it's so deeply mediocre.
2/5
Bruce Springsteen
5/5
Heard it before, in fact Bruce is smiling at me from a vinyl record on my shelf as I write this. One of the best albums of all time, the album that made me fall in love with Bruce's music. Each song is a spiritual experience
5/5
The Temptations
2/5
Heard some Temptations songs before. While I can tell it's a good, well made album it just was background music to me for some reason. I just couldn't pay attention to any of the tracks
2/5
Peter Gabriel
4/5
Heard it before. Don't know how many of his albums are on the list (already got So before) but they're all gonna get a good score. Love you, Peter
4/5
Talk Talk
2/5
Heard a different Talk Talk album before. They do have some nice songs but eh, this album doesn't really have any
2/5
T. Rex
3/5
Heard it before. T. Rex makes such sweet music, it puts me in a good mood and inevitably makes me think about Billy Elliot
3/5
Pixies
3/5
Heard it before. I have a complicated relationship with Pixies because in theory it should be something I like. But I just don't. I think something about Black Francis' vocals pisses me off? The music is quality tho so I will still give it a good score
3/5
X-Ray Spex
3/5
Heard it before. Sex Pistols wish they were X Ray Spex
3/5
James Brown
2/5
Heard various James Brown songs before but never an album. Quite fun but at the same time nothing special
2/5
Elvis Presley
3/5
Heard it before. It's a charming little album.
3/5
Jimi Hendrix
2/5
Heard bits of it before. I do respect Jimi (fellow leftie) but this album just doesn't click for me
2/5
Kanye West
1/5
I heard some Kanye songs throughout my life. Decided to listen to a rip of this album on Youtube instead. I will be honest with you, I never understood why music bros put Kanye's albums on their best albums of all time lists. Listening to this one feels like this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-SRiVWYrnNo
Also, "I keep it 300 like the Romans"? They weren't even Romans
1/5
Soft Cell
5/5
Heard it before. 80s synth masterclass. Sex Dwarf one of the songs of all time
5/5
The Who
2/5
Heard various Who songs here and there. I will be honest with you, after just 6 songs it felt as if I've been listening to the album for an hour. I'm just not interested in the concept of this concept album.
2/5
Heaven 17
2/5
Heard some Heaven 17 songs before. I really like
(We Don't Need This) Fascist Groove Thang from this album. But the rest is? Eh really unimpressive.
2/5
William Orbit
2/5
Haven't heard of this before. It's not bad but it's just background music.
2/5
5/5
Heard it before. Truly a classic
5/5
Jeff Beck
3/5
Heard of Jeff Beck before but for some reason never got round to listening to his music. The album didn't have any tracks that stood out to me but I appreciate the overall experience
3/5
Eric Clapton
1/5
Everything from Clapton that I've heard in my life was against my will. Including this album. He contributed maybe 2 original songs to the history of rock music and neither are on this album. He's like a background character nobody gives a damn about, I've never met an Eric Clapton fan. He's neither good at anything nor recognizable for anything in particular. This album is a good example of that.
1/5
Van Halen
3/5
Heard some songs from it before. Fun 80s music
3/5
Marvin Gaye
4/5
Heard it before. Listening to this album is always a pleasure
4/5
Lauryn Hill
3/5
Heard it before. It's a really nice album, if only it wasn't so long for no reason
3/5
Wilco
2/5
Heard of this album but never listened to it. Worst kind of indie, after just 3 songs it felt like an hour. It did have one or two ok songs though
2/5
Buddy Holly & The Crickets
3/5
Somehow haven't heard a full Buddy Holly album before (though I do know some big hits). It's a really sweet and charming album
3/5
Iggy Pop
3/5
Heard it before. You can really feel Bowie on every single song of this album
3/5
Neil Young
3/5
Haven't heard this album by Neil before. I was pleasantly surprised, I didn't expect to like the album as much as I did
3/5
Fiona Apple
4/5
Heard it before. It seems like her most recent album became THE Fiona album for lots of people but to me nothing beats her first two records
4/5
The Smiths
5/5
Heard it before. Best Smiths album and one of my personal favourites as well
5/5
Frank Sinatra
3/5
Never heard a Sinatra album in full before. Doesn't "wee" already mean small?
3/5
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
3/5
Heard it before. I have an interesting relationship with this album because while it's ok I never think about it. But at the same time for some reason I can't explain Heads Will Roll is one of my favourite songs ever. For that reason alone I will give the album a good score
3/5
Linkin Park
3/5
Hear a different Linkin Park album before. Honestly? They make quite enjoyable music
3/5
Les Rythmes Digitales
1/5
Never heard of this and honestly, has anybody? After listening to this album I don't think anybody should listen to it. This is some low quality electronic music.
1/5
Doves
2/5
Wikipedia calls this the best debut album since Definitely Maybe but I swear I've never heard of this band. At the same time some of the songs here felt quite familiar, I'm not sure if I'd heard them somewhere before or they just remind me of other songs from the era. It's a deeply inoffensive and uninspired album, can I listen to Oasis instead?
2/5
Fugazi
4/5
Heard it before. Fugazi were my number 1 artist last year so listening to this album again just felt like any other day. My 2nd or 3rd fave album from them
4/5
Wu-Tang Clan
2/5
Only heard the biggest hit from it before. Not my kind of hip hop, honestly. But C.R.E.A.M. is on the album at least
2/5
The Smiths
3/5
Heard it before. I know for lots of people this is their favourite Smiths album but it's my least fave </3 Still, it's The Smiths and Barbarism Begins At Home is on this album so I can't complain
3/5
Sheryl Crow
2/5
Only heard the big single from before. For the first couple of songs I actually quite enjoyed it. But as it went on I became bored of it and wanted it to end
2/5
The Beach Boys
1/5
Heard it before 2 times and the 3rd time now hasn't changed how I feel about it. I might get stoned for this opinion but I just don't get this album at all. I don't hear what's so supposedly groundbreaking about it. Maybe 2 songs on the album are enjoyable on their own
1/5
Rufus Wainwright
1/5
Heard of Rufus but never listened to him before. Dude thinks he's Radiohead
1/5
The Temptations
2/5
Heard a different album from them before (also from the generator). It's a charming album but ultimately nothing special
2/5
Dusty Springfield
2/5
Heard some songs from Dusty before. This album though? Eh not really interesting to me
2/5
Led Zeppelin
2/5
Heard it before. I have a massive nostalgia for Immigrant Song because of School of Rock. But as I get older I realize that I'd enjoy Led Zep's music more if it wasn't Robert Plant's vocals. I know he's regarded as one of the best rock singers ever but... something slightly annoying about his vocals to me
2/5
Saint Etienne
2/5
Only heard one song from it before. It's nice but other than the big hit I just didn't really pay attention to the rest
2/5
The Prodigy
3/5
Heard it before. Party music. The random L7 cover at the end has always been really fascinating to me
3/5
The Doors
3/5
Heard it before. My mom used Peace Frog as her ringtone for years and to this day the song gives me anxiety and makes me look around the room looking for the phone
3/5
Leonard Cohen
4/5
Heard it before. What a strange thing, today I got the news that one of my old uni professors died and I remember how years ago during one class he made us listen to this album and analyze the lyrics. Feels like a fitting tribute to listen to it today
4/5
The Cramps
2/5
Heard some Cramps songs before. I'm afraid I will never really get them. But I respect whatever the hell they have going on
2/5
Morrissey
3/5
Heard different Morrissey albums before and was convinced I'm not the biggest fan of his solo stuff. But this album? It surprised me, I actually enjoyed it. The first half is slightly better than the second but still enjoyable
3/5
Pearl Jam
5/5
Heard it before. Oh I've heard it so many times. A truly life-changing album for me and I'm forever grateful I met my best friend in the world thanks to Pearl Jam
5/5
Sex Pistols
3/5
Heard it before. For a classic punk album it's a bit mid, isn't it
3/5
Ella Fitzgerald
2/5
Heard Ella before but never a full album. And boy was this thing overwhelming. I'd have enjoyed it much more if it was just 12 songs long instead of 3 hours...
2/5
Funkadelic
4/5
Heard it before. It's nice to go back to it after some time
4/5
Flamin' Groovies
3/5
Haven't heard of the band before. I was ready to go "what is this and what is it doing here" but turns out the album is quite alright actually
3/5
10cc
4/5
Heard of 10cc before but this is my first time listening to them and wow! Right up my alley
4/5
Cee Lo Green
2/5
Heard Fuck You before and once again I'm not sure what this album is doing here. It's a well produced early 00s music but really subpar overall. Cee Lo sounds kind of annoying on some songs. And the album is way too long
2/5
Aretha Franklin
3/5
Heard it before. It's so nice to hear some good soothing music
3/5
Air
3/5
Heard it before. For some reason I didn't remember anything from the album except for Sexy Boy. But oh man, was it worth listening to the album again. I definitely didn't appreciate it enough the first time round
3/5
1/5
I've heard of John Zorn before in the context of him collaborating with Mike Patton so I knew I'm going to hear some absolutely fucked up music. And I wasn't wrong. I do think this is something people should hear to experience how weird music can get. While it didn't give me a headache I'm still only going to give it 1/5
Garbage
4/5
Heard it before. I dyed my hair ginger back in high school because of Shirley
4/5
The White Stripes
2/5
Heard it before. Can't say I'm really into White Stripes so listening to this album was rather meeeh
2/5
Christina Aguilera
2/5
I've heard of Christina obviously but (I don't know what happened to me in the early 00s) I just completely missed her entire career. If you asked me about her biggest hits I wouldn't be able to name even a single song. Listening to this album I think I got the answer to that, I just generally don't vibe with this kind of early 00s R&B. Steve Winwood being a feature on one of the songs was lowkey wild though
2/5
The War On Drugs
2/5
Heard it before. I really like Under The Pressure but overall the album is just not really for me
2/5
Michael Kiwanuka
2/5
Heard it before. It's quite alright but lacks something special that'd make me appreciate it more
2/5
Tom Tom Club
3/5
Heard Genius of Love before. I believe this album wasn't available on Spotify in my region not so long ago? But it's here now and it's quite good, I sometimes felt that the songs were ragging on a bit though
3/5
Silver Jews
1/5
Haven't heard of the band but when I saw on Wikipedia that people from Pavement are involved in this I knew it's gonna be shit. And it was! Worst kind of indie bullshit
1/5
Nick Drake
3/5
Heard it before. I thought I'm not in a very Nick Drake mood today but after hitting play it seems I AM in a Nick Drake mood. Hard to say no to this album
3/5
Pentangle
2/5
Haven't heard of them before. The album was really pretty but sadly just not something I'm usually into
2/5
Nico
2/5
I've never heard Nico's solo music before. I read the "Personal life" section of her Wikipedia page once and now I roll my eyes whenever I see Nico anywhere. It's a good thing that I don't really like her music either, a match made in heaven
2/5
Dexys Midnight Runners
1/5
I've only heard two songs from them before. What the hell was this album
1/5
David Bowie
3/5
Heard it before. Something happened on the day he died, truly
3/5
Sepultura
2/5
I think I've heard something from the album before. The album is quite cool but way too long
2/5
Nightmares On Wax
1/5
Haven't heard of this before. Nothingburger
1/5
The Doors
4/5
Heard it before. What a great album
4/5
New Order
2/5
Heard it before. Might be a controversial opinion but I don't think this album is That good. Elegia on the other hand is a true masterpiece and makes me cry so I cannot be completely negative here
2/5
The Young Rascals
1/5
Haven't heard of them before. Huh, that was a whole bunch of nothing
1/5
Gene Clark
2/5
Haven't heard his solo work before. At first I thought this album isn't great but the 2nd half had some nice songs. Still, pretty underwhelming
2/5
Prince
3/5
Heard it before. It's a really good album although a bit too long. What I find hilarious is that my favourite song from the album (Strange Relationship) is the least streamed one
3/5
Gary Numan
4/5
Heard it before. Cars is one of the songs of all time, for sure
4/5
a-ha
3/5
Heard it before. I hate when people call a-ha a one hit wonder. The Sun Always Shines On TV is literally right there?? Not to mention my beloved The Blue Sky which might be one of my favourite 80s songs ever
3/5
Kate Bush
5/5
Heard it before. What can I say about it that hasn't been said before. I guess Under Ice and Jig Of Life being my favourites from the album is quite unusual
5/5
Massive Attack
4/5
Heard it before. The title track is like a warm hug. Overall I do love this album but it just ain't as good as Mezzanine
4/5
Janet Jackson
2/5
Heard the title track before (banger). I think I just find late 80s sound boring because listening to this I can tell it's a well produced album but... nah. I think the fact that there was an interlude between almost every song didn't help
2/5
Nirvana
5/5
Heard it before, god knows how many times. This is a very important album for me and the best Nirvana album in general
5/5
R.E.M.
4/5
Heard it before. What can I say, it's nice to listen to R.E.M.
4/5
Deep Purple
2/5
Heard Smoke on the Water before, obviously. Not gonna lie, it wasn't the most groundbreaking album ever but it was just ok
2/5
Primal Scream
2/5
Heard it before. Honestly I could never understand why it's such a popular album and listening to it again didn't answer my questions. It's fine but doesn't have anything "wow" about it
2/5
De La Soul
2/5
Heard of the group before. I might go to hell for this but I really don't vibe with most of 80s/90s hip hop. In my defense I'm a music over lyrics girl so hip hop is the literal opposite of what I'm looking for and the instrumentals of early hip hip have quite a same-y beat throughout the entire song
2/5
Queens of the Stone Age
2/5
Heard it before. I'm not the biggest QotSA fan but I do really enjoy them whenever I listen to their albums. This album though really suffers from being so long. I kinda got bored of all the filler material halfway through
2/5
The Byrds
2/5
Heard some songs from The Byrds before. Bob Dylan covers album
2/5
The Mothers Of Invention
2/5
Heard of the band but it's my first time listening to them. It did give me a bit of a headache but then at times I was amazed how they managed to create this shitpost of an album back in the 60s. So even though I didn't enjoy the music I do appreciate it
2/5
Dire Straits
3/5
Heard songs from it before. I think I'm turning into a middle aged dad because I really used to think that Dire Straits are a bit cringe but listening to the album now it felt like I finally Get It
3/5
Spiritualized
2/5
Heard it before. Other than the title track the album is kinda boring as hell
2/5
Ian Dury
1/5
Heard of the guy but never heard his music. God, this album is absolute ass. Quite literally, there even were some shitting synth sounds
1/5
Foo Fighters
3/5
Heard it before. Best Foo Fighters album, they went downhill after this. This one is good because you can still hear a bit of a Nirvana influence here and there. Dave became deeply uncool not long after that
3/5
The Afghan Whigs
2/5
Heard of the band before. Subpar grunge-adjacent music with bad lyrics and bad vocals. Its only saving grace are the instrumentals
2/5
Buzzcocks
3/5
Heard a different Buzzcocks album before. Honestly, I really liked it! Buzzcocks made some fun music
3/5
Brian Wilson
2/5
Never heard Brian's solo music. I can see why the generator gave me his album now (RIP)
2/5
Crosby, Stills & Nash
4/5
Only heard Judy Blue Eyes from this album before. Oh yesssss, perfect soundtrack for a sunny day
4/5
Ash
3/5
Heard of the band before. I had no idea what to expect but I just like 90s alternative rock music so I enjoyed this quite a bit. Altho it lacked stronger songs towards the end
3/5
Alice Cooper
2/5
Heard the title track before. Not gonna lie, didn't know what to expect and yet I was a bit surprised suddenly hearing something a big jazzy on one song. Not bad
2/5
Neil Young & Crazy Horse
4/5
Haven't heard this album before and I'm wondering why because wow I really enjoyed listening to it. The generator is making me realize I like Neil Young more than I thought
4/5
Jethro Tull
3/5
Heard some songs from them before. I've always loved the flute on Jethro Tull songs, it makes everything so much more fun
3/5
Nick Drake
2/5
Haven't heard this Nick Drake album before. I do like Nick but this album wasn't very interesting to me. After 2 songs I forgot I even was listening to music. Background noise
2/5
Jungle Brothers
3/5
Haven't heard of the group before. I've had some mixed feelings about the 80s/90s rap albums the generator gave me before but this one was nicer. The beats were more varied and less monotonous with some cool samples sprinkled throughout
3/5
Talking Heads
2/5
Heard it before. I will be honest, this album is kinda boring except for 3 songs (No Compassion, Psycho Killer, Pulled Up)
2/5
Michael Jackson
3/5
Heard some songs from it before. A really funky disco album. Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough is a massive banger
3/5
4/5
Heard it before. This is such a goofy album, it's always fun to listen to it
4/5
Bill Evans Trio
2/5
Haven't heard of Bill Evans before. I don't really listen to jazz though I do find the music quite cool. But this album? Didn't really do anything for me
2/5
Django Django
2/5
Haven't heard of the band which I find surprising. Well, the albums started a bit interesting but very quickly turned into your average indie shit
2/5
New York Dolls
1/5
Everything I've ever heard from the New York Dolls always made me feel like they're deeply lame. Listening to the album now just confirmed that for me. Such a boring punk-ish album. Not a single memorable song
1/5
Dexys Midnight Runners
2/5
Second Dexys album the generator has given me and I'm starting to understand the haters. This album was literally nothing special, the other one I've listened was even worse. Why are there so many Dexys albums here
2/5
Lynyrd Skynyrd
2/5
Only heard their biggest hits before. An unremarkable album, I even forgot how long Free Bird is before it gets to the interesting part
2/5
Bebel Gilberto
2/5
Haven't heard of her before. A sweet bossa nova album but nothing crazy
2/5
The Gun Club
1/5
Heard some Gun Club songs before. Sadly I didn't care for this album at all. The songs were one big nothing. I'm looking forward to listening to their other albums though
1/5
The Verve
2/5
Heard it before. Sadly, they peaked with their Rolling Stones rip off and did nothing too interesting otherwise
2/5
The Cure
3/5
Heard it before. One of Cure's gothiest albums and I really appreciate it
3/5
Nina Simone
4/5
Heard a different album from Nina before. Gorgeous, absolutely gorgeous
4/5
1/5
Heard a different XTC album before. The first song felt like like David Byrne singing over demo tunes on a Casio keyboard. It got a bit better later on but still I was absolutely baffled
1/5
Fleet Foxes
2/5
Heard of the band but haven't heard their music. This album was just boring. Not awful but boring. Literally nothing interesting going on
2/5
Arctic Monkeys
5/5
Heard it before. This album is the true sound of early 00s indie which could make it terribly dated nowadays but for some reason it sounds as fresh as ever. Every single song is a banger. Timeless classic
5/5
The The
3/5
Only heard This Is The Day before so this album was a complete surprise. And a nice surprise! Really enjoyed the overall vibe of the album
3/5
Alanis Morissette
2/5
Heard it before. This album is aggressively 90s in a nice way. Sadly, I've never enjoyed Alanis' voice, the only songs I like on the album are the ones where she sings more softly
2/5
The Rolling Stones
2/5
Heard the US version of the album before and the UK version's main problem is that Paint It Black (my favourite Rolling Stones song) isn't on it. The album is a mixed bag really, some nice tunes and others I completely don't care for or straight up dislike
2/5
Miles Davis
3/5
First time properly listening to Miles David and what a great experience! I find lots of jazz albums to be a bit too long/boring but this one is just the right length and has some exciting things going on
3/5
Simon & Garfunkel
4/5
Heard it before. Not a single bad song on this album, the right mix of serious and a bit more fun
4/5
Creedence Clearwater Revival
2/5
Haven't heard this album before. I felt like it had potential to be interesting but I just didn't care about any of the songs at all
2/5
The White Stripes
2/5
Heard it before. I never really understood why The White Stripes are such a big thing and Jack White gets treated like the second coming of Christ. The guy makes some average ass music. There are just two good songs on this whole album
2/5
The Teardrop Explodes
2/5
Heard Treason before. I was mildly annoyed by the fact that some songs from the album weren't available on Spotify and maybe that's why I found the album underwhelming or it's just not that great in general. It's ok but eh?
2/5
R.E.M.
4/5
Heard it before. I probably have a very normie taste but this is one of my favourites from R.E.M.
4/5
The Stooges
3/5
Heard it before. What an album, you really can see why it became so influential. My only problem with it is the random 10 minute track in the middle
3/5
Haircut 100
3/5
Heard a couple of songs from the album before but completely forgot about them. The album is quite interesting, doesn't sound like yet another copy of the same 80s new wave vibe. That said it isn't groundbreaking either and no songs really stood out to me
3/5
Tangerine Dream
3/5
Haven't listened to any of their music before. It was a really interesting, moody album.
3/5
The Rolling Stones
2/5
3rd Rolling Stones album from the generator and I'm starting to realize I probably won't ever like their music fully. No matter the era Mick's voice pisses me off and the catchy tunes are few and far between. Arguably there's nothing wrong with this album and it's not bad music but I just don't care
2/5
XTC
2/5
Heard it before. The problem with this album is that while it is kind of interesting it also basically has no songs that you can go back to other than Dear God. It stands out from the rest and feels like it belongs on a different album
2/5
Paul Revere & The Raiders
2/5
Haven't heard of them before. This American take on the British Invasion doesn't sound good at all. Deeply mid. The only good track here is I'm Not Your Stepping Stone but I'd heard the Monkees version before and prefer it over this one.
2/5
The Allman Brothers Band
1/5
My first time listening to The Allman Bros and boy was it a bad idea to start with a live album. I'm not the biggest fan of bluesy stuff in general but having to sit through songs that are a 10+ minutes long guitar solo is a torture for me
1/5
Scott Walker
3/5
Haven't heard any music from Scott before. I had no idea what to expect and was pleasantly surprised. It sounded really grand in an intriguing way
3/5
Black Sabbath
4/5
Heard it before. RIP Ozzy, he really was one of the rock greats and those figures that you just know about whether you listen to rock or not, so losing him is really sad. Paranoid is one hell of an influential and interesting album
4/5
Country Joe & The Fish
2/5
Haven't heard of them before. Can't say I was very excited listening to the album but it had some interesting moments and it definitely wasn't your "yet another copy of the Beatles" album. The guys really tried to be a bit edgy
2/5
Big Brother & The Holding Company
3/5
Heard it before. My mom being a Janis fan, I'm kinda bound to like her too. But just in general it's a great album
3/5
Sebadoh
2/5
Heard it before. Not my favourite from Sebadoh but it's still pretty cool albeit a bit too long
2/5
Roxy Music
4/5
Heard it before. I think there isn't a Roxy Music album that I dislike. Great album
4/5
The Band
2/5
Finally my first time listening to The Band. I know they have some pretty devoted fans but this album didn't do anything for me...
2/5
Jerry Lee Lewis
1/5
One of those people I know the name of but wouldn't be able to tell you one song by them. Genuinely knew nothing about the guy so I looked at the reviews and his Wikipedia page and hoo boy did I learn a lot. Well he seems to be shitty at music too because he managed to make every single song sound exactly the same: boring
1/5
The Triffids
2/5
Haven't heard of them and I thought I know all the most important 80s bands that could be featured on the list. Listening to the album didn't help me understand why it's here. There were so many better bands in Australia in the 80s that'd deserve this spot more
2/5
Elvis Costello
2/5
Haven't heard this album before. Second album I've ever heard from Costello and I'm convinced he's incapable of creating engaging music. He's like if somebody gave Billy Joel a guitar instead of a piano and took away all his creative variety. Most songs on this album sound nearly identical
2/5
Beck
2/5
Haven't heard this album before. I do like Beck but ouch, not when he makes chill music. This almost put me to sleep, I'm used to him making more fun tunes
2/5
Daft Punk
2/5
Heard it before. Da Funk and Around the World are massive bangers but I don't know how it feel about the rest. Meh?
2/5
Depeche Mode
5/5
Heard it before. A perfect synth album that never gets old no matter how much time has passed. Each song is just so unique. Not just compared to other albums from the era but compared to the rest of DM's discography as well
5/5
Alice In Chains
5/5
Heard it before. One of the most important bands from my early teen years. Their self titled album is probably my favourite in their discography but this one also gets 5/5 for being so iconic
5/5
The Undertones
2/5
Heard Teenage Kicks before and after listening to the full album can I just say it was one of the most boring songs on it? There were other more interesting tracks but overall it wasn't that great
2/5
Public Image Ltd.
1/5
Heard some PiL before but I wasn't ready for this album. It gave me a headache. It was just random sounds
1/5
Elvis Costello & The Attractions
2/5
Yet another album from Costello and I still don't like his music. He's boring
2/5
The Police
2/5
Hear it before. Truly a mixed bag, some songs were cool and some really damn confusing. But overall rather forgettable
2/5
Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark
2/5
Heard some OMD hits before. I do love synthpop but this album felt kind of like one long song without much variety or catchy tunes
2/5
The Beach Boys
2/5
Haven't heard this Beach Boys album before. I'm starting to realize most of their songs are just one phrase repeated ad nauseam with somebody going "woooo eee woooo" in the background
2/5
Queen
5/5
Heard it before. Queen is one of the bands of my childhood so they have a special place in my heart
5/5
Hugh Masekela
3/5
Haven't heard of Hugh before. Pleasantly surprised. Jazz albums are a hit or miss but this one actually did have something that made it stand out and be a bit "catchy"
3/5
Kanye West
2/5
Second Kanye album from the generator and I'm starting to realize all the music dudes online lied about this album being one of the best albums of all time. It's not even one of the best rap albums of all time. The samples on some songs were really cool but the rest was meh. If it wasn't Kanye, the album would've been cooler but sadly it is him
2/5
The Cure
3/5
Heard it before. A Forest is my favourite Cure song, it just literally feels like running through a forest
3/5
Jimmy Smith
2/5
Haven't heard of Jimmy Smith before. The first track was promising but the rest of the album was just some standard jazzy stuff
2/5
Deerhunter
1/5
Somehow haven't heard of them? But I didn't miss out on anything. Worst type of indie bullshit, some sad boy strumming his guitar with shit vocals that make it hard to understand what language he's even singing in. God, what a bad album
1/5
Leonard Cohen
2/5
Haven't heard this album before. I do like some Cohen but this album simply bored me. Couldn't even tell when one song ended and another one started
2/5
Michael Jackson
4/5
Heard almost every single song from it before but never listened to the album from start to finish. Usually I dislike late 80s pop because towards the end of the decade it began to sound like a parody of itself. But that's not the case here, oh no. The production on this album is insane and polished as hell. And it's MJ, come on. Of course it's a good album
4/5
Bad Company
2/5
One of those albums I've been meaning to listen but never got round to it. It's a perfectly fine album but didn't blow my socks off
2/5
Jorge Ben Jor
3/5
Haven't heard of Jorge before. Quite a nice album! And very Brazilian
3/5
Ms. Dynamite
3/5
Surprisingly I haven't heard of Ms. Dynamite before. The album has the best kind of early 00s vibe. Though as with many rap-adjacent albums my complaint is that it's a bit too long
3/5
The Specials
2/5
Heard A Message to You Rudy before and it will remain my favourite from the album. The vibe overall was really fun but no other song felt Special (get it?) to me
2/5
Pere Ubu
1/5
Heard the name of the band here and there but never really knew what sort of music they do. It was quite a weird experience, not an enjoyable one
1/5
Fishbone
3/5
Heard some songs from this album before. I really do enjoy the fun energy of the whole album and it's a really pleasant listen
3/5
Radiohead
2/5
Heard it before. No matter how many tries I give Radiohead I just don't get their music other than the first 3 albums. Everything after OK Computer is just a bunch of incoherent sounds to me. Creep is genuinely better than this whole album (shoutout to Knives Out tho because it's the only song on this album that sounds like a song and it's one of my favourites from Radiohead)
2/5
The Dandy Warhols
3/5
Once again one of those bands I know the name of but have never listened to. I'm really surprised they're American because something about their sound is so late 90s post-britpop British. And I guess that's why even though not too many songs on the album were memorable I still enjoyed it quite a bit
3/5
The Residents
1/5
Checked my stats and it seems I've heard some song from them before but safe to say I don't remember it. Nothing could've prepared me for this album. I do appreciate early experimental music for daring to be different but... this album made me physically say "Oh, shut up" out loud. Not a good sign. Longest 35 minutes of my life
1/5
Napalm Death
3/5
First time listening to a Napalm Death album. I am disappointed with the adoration this website's users have for boring classic rock (cough cough Led Zep) and the disdain for more extreme/experimental stuff so I'm bumping up my ranking of this album slightly. I usually listen to "calmer" metal but I still think this album is pretty cool
3/5
The Smashing Pumpkins
4/5
Heard it before. Fantastic album, makes me forget William "Billy" Corgan is kinda annoying as a person. Part of this album's charm is that it's a double album but I feel like I'd give it a perfect score if it was shorter because the big hits here are really big and good. In general I prefer the rockier songs here than the more mellow acoustic ones
4/5
Venom
3/5
Heard some songs from it before. You gotta respect them for inspiring whole new subgenres of metal. And it's just a good album in general
3/5
ZZ Top
2/5
Heard some songs from it. Their hit songs are ok and it's a well produced album. But the problem is that the rest of the songs sound like one long song. No variety
2/5
ABBA
2/5
First time listening to this album in full. The older I get the more I realize that ABBA is a greatest hits type of band. The popular songs from this album are great but the rest is so mid and silly. No "hidden gems" or anything like that. I'd already known all the best songs from it before I even hit play. Eh
2/5
James Taylor
3/5
Heard some James Taylor songs before. I expected to like this album more but? I didn't care much for most of the songs. Still, something in my brain is telling me to give it 3/5
The KLF
3/5
Only heard their remix of the Doctor Who theme song before. You know what, the album wasn't revolutionary in any way but it still was quite fun? Way more fun than some other random electronic albums I've had so far from the generator that sounded worse than background music
3/5
The Divine Comedy
3/5
Haven't listened to their music before. The top review called it a Pulp parody album and I thought they're exaggerating but it really does to a degree feel like a mix of Pulp and Scott Walker. Can't complain though, I quite enjoyed it
3/5
Beastie Boys
3/5
Heard it before. I'm so basic but I do like Beastie Boys. It's a quality album though I think I have some different favourites from them. Sampling music from Psycho is so iconic tho
3/5
Manic Street Preachers
5/5
Genuinely one of my favourite albums of all time. I found Manics completely randomly while compiling a list of artists to check out ages ago and The Holy Bible was the album I chose to listen to first from them. I was definitely intrigued after the first listen. Came back to it maybe just two years later and got properly obsessed with Manics and love them to this day. What a bittersweet album. On the one hand it's truly genius in a disturbing way. On the other I can't stop thinking about Richey and what he was going through. Hope you feel better now wherever you are, Richey
5/5
2/5
Hear it before. I appreciate how fun Devo are. But this album just didn't really have any bangers to me
2/5
Parliament
3/5
Heard of Parliament but never actually listened to their music before. Can't say no to funk, it was fun to listen to
3/5
Joni Mitchell
3/5
Heard it before. Not my favourite from Joni tbh. But hey, it's Joni
3/5
Bob Marley & The Wailers
3/5
Haven't heard a Bob Marley album in full before. Honestly, I think I needed this kind of sound today. It was nice
3/5
Public Image Ltd.
2/5
Second PiL album from the generator. Better than Metal Box but still, it just shows that John Lydon isn't that interesting as a person and 50% of Sex Pistols success was just good marketing and shock value. Still, this album has the song Public Image by the band Public Image Ltd. from their album Public Image: First Issue and I quite like this one
2/5
Franz Ferdinand
3/5
Heard it before. I have a soft spot for early 00s indie rock from the UK. Also Michael > Take Me Out
3/5
Lambchop
3/5
Haven't heard of them before. I was a bit skeptical when I read what genre the album is. But honestly it was quite good. I think I'm not immute to chill sounding music lately
3/5
Dead Kennedys
3/5
Heard it before. A classic punk album. Holiday in Cambodia is such a banger
3/5
Al Green
3/5
Somehow my first time listening to Al Green. But oh what a great album that was
3/5
Thundercat
2/5
Previously I'd only heard Thundercat on To Pimp A Butterfly. Not my thing, nothing felt like a banger that'd stay with you. The album felt too long even though it was more or less regular length
2/5
Amy Winehouse
4/5
Heard it before. Oh Amy, Amy, Amy. One of the greatest voices of this century. She's probably the first celebrity death I remember well and it felt so weird losing a popular singer who came to prominence in my lifetime. I was just a teen and she was way too young too. This album is so great at mimicking past decades and styles but making them fit modern times
4/5
The Louvin Brothers
3/5
Haven't heard of the band before. I will risk a controversial statement: I don't think country music is something important to any place other than the US so I don't think this album is something absolutely everybody should listen to before they die? I did have fun listening to the album though
3/5
Elliott Smith
5/5
Heard it before. Oh what a fantastic album. Very powerful despite the very lofi instrumentation
5/5
Genesis
4/5
Heard it before. Peter Gabriel could sing me the phonebook and I'd love it
4/5
Aretha Franklin
4/5
Second Aretha album from the generator and once again she proved she's the queen
4/5
The Kinks
3/5
Heard it before. It's really interesting musically and makes the album stand out among other more standard 60s rock albums
3/5
Big Black
5/5
Heard it before. God, I adore Big Black. Confused why this is the album chosen for the list and not Songs About Fucking (which is better in my opinion) but can't complain, this album still has some bangers. And since this is my only opportunity to rate Big Black on this list this goes straight to my favourites
5/5
Prince
5/5
Heard it before. Genuinely one of the best albums ever made and 100% an album everybody should hear before they die. A true masterpiece and if you purify yourself in the waters of Lake Minnetonka you will also appreciate the movie
5/5
David Bowie
4/5
Heard it before. This album really takes you to Berlin in the 70s (I say although it's something I've never experienced). Call me weird but Sense of Doubt is one of my favourites from the album
4/5
Kanye West
2/5
Oh my god, how many Kanye albums are on here. It's my 3rd Kanye album from the generator and the previous two (even his views aside) weren't good enough to deserve a spot on the list. The album itself is fine I guess? But like many rap albums: waaaay too long, I thought an hour had passed after just 30 minutes. Worth noting that Jay-Z mentions JP2 on one song? I guess that's the only reference to my country I will find on this whole albums list
2/5
Raekwon
2/5
I have listened Enter the Wu-Tang before but never solo work of any of the Wu-Tang members. Sadly, this is exactly the type of 90s rap I don't like. Very monotonous beats that sound almost identical on every single song
2/5
Beck
3/5
Heard it before. I do like Beck and it's a fun album so, what can I say
3/5
The Rolling Stones
3/5
Yet another Rolling Stones album from the generator. Probably my favourite from them so far but I still don't Get them. Maybe one day at 40 I will wake up as a Rolling Stones fan, who knows. But for now I still don't get them
3/5
Green Day
2/5
Haven't listened to any Green Day albums in full before. When it comes to pop punk Green Day does it in a way that's not too obnoxious and quite pleasant. But most songs on this album sound quite samey. I enjoyed the vibe of this album but it's also rather meh
2/5
PJ Harvey
4/5
Heard it before. Oh Polly Jean, how I love you. I adore this album but I've always had one major gripe with it. And it saddens me to say it because I love the guy's music: Steve Albini buried PJ's vocals in the mix so hard that you can barely hear her on some songs
4/5
TV On The Radio
2/5
Haven't heard their music before. It had something intriguing about it at the beginning but then it became quite boring
2/5
Bob Dylan
4/5
Heard it before. I'm a massive normie when it comes to Dylan but I do love this album. Playing Don't Think Twice, It's All Right anywhere near me should be illegal because it makes me too sad
4/5
David Bowie
4/5
Heard it before. A sax heavy funky album which I love. And somehow The Beatles are involved too
4/5
John Martyn
4/5
Haven't heard of him before and I'm wondering how because this album is absolutely fantastic?? Like, wow. The jazzy, folky instrumentals are perfect for shit autumn weather
4/5
Sarah Vaughan
2/5
Haven't heard of Sarah before. It's a perfectly fine album but sadly I'm not a big fan of this jazzy style. It makes me sleepy
2/5
Love
3/5
Heard some songs from it before. It's such a wonderful and creative album for its time. Truly worth a listen
3/5
The Sensational Alex Harvey Band
1/5
I've never heard of them and it's surprising because based on just the Wikipedia article alone some people I listen to say they were influential. Well... I don't see what's so "sensational" about the band. The guy's vocals actively pissed me off
1/5
Solange
2/5
Heard a lot about the album but it's my first time listening to it. It's fine but way too chill for me. No songs really stood out
2/5
Iron Maiden
3/5
Only heard two songs from it before and honestly, it's such a fun album. A slightly less "heavy" version of metal
3/5
Marilyn Manson
1/5
Dear god, this weirdo is on the list? Gave up listening halfway through because this is literally just music for people who desperately want to be edgy but they're not edgy in a genuine way. His covers of Tainted Love and Sweet Dreams (thankfully not on the album) are the worst thing in the world and have always pissed me off, turns out his original music is no better
1/5
Billy Bragg
2/5
Ok I had no idea Billy Bragg and Wilco did a Woody Guthrie album? And my main takeaway from it is that Bragg and Merchant > Wilco. Bragg makes perfect sense for the album but Wilco just doesn't fit here, they make the songs they sing on sound goofy. Maybe this album deserves even a 3/5 but something about Wilco pisses me off so, lower rating
2/5
The Go-Go's
3/5
Heard it before. Tbh I completely forgot what a fun album it is! Nothing too crazy but also a nice listen
3/5
Willie Nelson
3/5
First time listening to Willie Nelson. I know it's just a covers album but what a sweet little album it was. I'm glad I waited till evening to listen to it, it was the right mood for it
3/5
Bobby Womack
3/5
Only heard Bobby's cover of California Dreamin' before (and a Gorillaz collab). Daaaamn wow, this album goes hard. Could tell the vibe is gonna be good just from the album cover alone
3/5
Dr. Octagon
3/5
Haven't heard of the guy before but the title and cover art made me sceptical... I gained some confidence when I saw that Dan the Automator produced it and yeah, the beats on this are really good. But the guy's rapping and lyrics are not good, hilarious even. The lyrics feel like somebody's rapping an Uncyclopedia article to me (shoutout for mentioning Copernicus randomly). It's comedy rap to me. And yet I can't hate it, "so bad it's good" type of thing. Gotta appreciate the weird theme that's never been done before and hasn't been done since
3/5
Adele
3/5
Heard it before. I think I've heard the big hits from this album too many times and they annoy me just a bit but because of nostalgia I still like the album quite a bit. Definitely Adele's best album
3/5
Mudhoney
2/5
Heard it before. I feel like a traitor saying this but I'm not sure what this album is doing here. I was heavily into grunge as a teen but this Mudhoney album was never my favourite, Piece of Cake would've been a better choice. But I don't think the average person needs to hear more from them than Superfuzz Bigmuff anyway when it comes to a list like this (and it's on this list already)
2/5
Jack White
2/5
Heard it before. Everything this guy does sounds almost exactly the same, this album is just White Stripes but with more instruments. Freedom at 21 is watered down Seven Nation Army. The album sounds perfectly fine but I'm tired of people praising Jack for doing the most basic stuff over and over again
2/5
The Isley Brothers
3/5
Not my first time listening to The Isley Brothers but probably the best so far. 5 seconds into the album I realized Beastie Boys sampled them (and the sample is so good I'm glad I now know the original song)
3/5
Travis
2/5
Only heard their big hit from this album before. Uh, once again a very random post-britpop era pick on this list. Feels like a watered down version of more famous bands of similar genre. It wasn't bad, just alright. But on one song I fully thought they're gonna start singing The Universal by Blur
2/5
Madness
2/5
Heard their big hits before. Sadly it's only their big hits I cared about here. The other songs just didn't have anything special about them, they were still fun and playful but not memorable
2/5
Can
3/5
My first time listening to Can. And it was fun! Could be considered background music but one that you actually notice and dance a little to
3/5
Nick Drake
3/5
Heard it before. Sweet, sweet album <3
3/5
Tori Amos
5/5
Heard it before. Great album both when it comes to music and lyrics. I love Tori
5/5
Stevie Wonder
3/5
Heard some songs from it before. Gorgeous album with rich instrumentation. Groovy and danceable
3/5
Beastie Boys
3/5
Heard it before. I love how goofy Beastie Boys are. It may not be peak of rap but I just can't help but love them
3/5
The Magnetic Fields
3/5
Heard it before. And I'm not gonna listen to it in full again for my review because it's just way too long. I did relisten to more than half of it and it is a good album, you just need to pick your favourite songs and compose your own standard length album out of it. Pretty impressive to make an album that's so sonically cohesive while also not making every song sound identical
3/5
The Lemonheads
1/5
Haven't heard of them before. Literally the most pointless lacklustre nothingburger 90s alternative music. What is this doing on the list
1/5
Brian Eno
3/5
The only collab I've heard from them were the Talking Heads albums. And you can really feel that vibe on the very first track. The rest to me is more Eno than Byrne. The album was 50/50 but ultimately rather interesting
3/5
David Bowie
5/5
Heard it before. Probably my favourite from the Berlin trilogy. Most importantly the album contains Warszawa, inspired by Poland and Polish folk music <3
5/5
Fleetwood Mac
3/5
Heard it before. It's a charming record but it has a very "unfinished" feeling to it. The closest we get to a full song is the title track which I love a lot
3/5
Ramones
1/5
Heard it before. In fact I've heard it multiple times because each time I thought "I've never listened to any Ramones albums" before checking my stats and realizing I have, in fact, listened to this very album already. Nothingburger of an album and the most overrated punk band ever
1/5
Paul Simon
5/5
Heard it before. Coincidentally I've been listening to this album non stop for the past couple of days so I would've listened to it today anyway. This is such a sweet album and has some serious bangers too. I think we need musicians to get obsessed with African music again
5/5
The Sonics
2/5
Heard their cover of Have Love Will Travel before. And I do like it but honestly it's just a covers album. I know album making used to look a bit different in the 60s but write your own damn music
2/5
Johnny Cash
2/5
Heard some Johnny Cash songs before. Can't say that I care about this album though. I just don't care for most live albums on this list in general, this one was even worse because it included lots of talking in between. No disrespect to Johnny Cash but I'd prefer to listen to a studio album from him, this live feels chaotic. No idea why two of his prison albums are on the list but not Stop Making Sense which is one of the best live albums ever
2/5
The Adverts
2/5
Heard of them but it's my first time listening to them. Sounds fine but nothing too crazy
2/5
Billy Joel
5/5
Heard it before. I do like Billy's music quite a bit. This is my 2nd favourite album from him and since my beloved Glass Houses aren't on the list then The Stranger gets a perfect score
5/5
Supergrass
2/5
Haven't heard this album from them before. Dear god, I already thought that including Supergrass's most popular album on the list is a bit much (even though I do like it) but now turns out there's a second one? Somebody should've seriously looked at the author's britpop era picks and removed like 10 albums before publishing the book. This is not even a britpop must listen, let alone a must listen from the entire history of music
2/5
Joni Mitchell
3/5
Heard it before. I love the jazzy vibes from Joni. Trouble Child is soooo good
3/5
John Lennon
3/5
Heard songs from it before. My mom is #teamlennon so liking John is kind of a default for me. The album is actually cool, early Beatles solo albums are funny because you can hear what each member contributed to the band's sound. How Do You Sleep feels a bit uncomfortable, like listening to your divorced parents fighting or something
3/5
Marianne Faithfull
3/5
Heard it before. Yesterday my album was Imagine and now I get an album with a cover of Working Class Hero? What a streak. Marianne's voice getting raspier made this album sound very powerful. But most importantly she is my birthday buddy
3/5
The Saints
3/5
Haven't heard of them before. Honestly they sound quite cool. Not amazing or groundbreaking but I had fun
3/5
The Hives
2/5
Heard Hate To Say I Told You So before. And I'm glad it was on this album because the rest was eeeh. The vocals are too shouty, the music is nothing special. And I think you can tell it's a compilation of two different albums because something feels off about it
2/5
Marty Robbins
2/5
Haven't heard of Marty before. I was hoping for some fun cowboy stuff but after couple of songs it started sounding quite repetitive and boring. I will go back to listening to Townes Van Zandt instead
2/5
The Band
3/5
Second Band album from the generator. A really sweet record. I didn't like the other one much but this one is actually quite good
3/5
Fairport Convention
3/5
Heard some song from them before. What a great album of folk music. This is exactly what I expect from a folk album. And at no point did it get boring or repetetive
3/5
Rush
4/5
Heard it before. Whenever I listen to this album I think about that guy on Last.fm who used to listen to the title track multiple times a day, just this one song and nothing else, neither from Rush nor other artists. It's a fantastic album and a truly creative one
4/5
Screaming Trees
3/5
Heard it before. Surprised this album made the list and not Sweet Oblivion. I do like Screaming Trees quite a lot, Mark Lanegan is one of my favourite voices ever (RIP)
3/5
Buck Owens
2/5
Haven't heard of him before. A couple of songs were fun but I find the overall vibe of some country albums overwhelming. This music is not popular here so listening to a whole album in this genre feels like I'm listening to a parody album and I can't shake that feeling off
2/5
Super Furry Animals
1/5
Heard of them but god, I had no idea they make such terrible music. This is the worst britpop-adjacent album I've heard so far. Not a single good track on this thing
1/5
Frank Ocean
3/5
Heard it before. This is a million times better than Blonde, I think people are hallucinating Blonde being good because it's deeply boring. Meanwhile Channel Orange has a nice vibe and variety, including essentially a pop/r&b prog track (Pyramids)
3/5
The Pogues
3/5
Heard Fairytale of New York before. Knew what sort of vibe this album is going to have but I was surprised anyway! Irish folk music really makes you want to dance
3/5
Johnny Cash
2/5
2nd Cash prison album from the generator. It was way better than the other one but I still just don't care. I had fun for like 1/3rd of the album and then I got bored
2/5
LCD Soundsystem
3/5
Heard it before. It's quite alright but I guess it probably hit harder back in 2007. I'm just wondering why there are 3 whole meh songs on this album that have more streams than my favourite one (North American Scum)
3/5
Goldfrapp
2/5
Heard the name before but for some reason I assumed they're a rock/metal band? Well, I'm in a bad mood today and this album isn't helping. It's barely music. And the only song that has something interesting going on is the least streamed one. Huh
2/5
Booker T. & The MG's
3/5
Heard the title track before. What a bunch of really fun tunes
3/5
Doves
2/5
2nd Doves album from the generator and I'm wondering why they got a 2nd album when the other one wasn't great. Suffering listening to more bullshit British music when I could've been listening to an album from some non-English speaking country instead. I'm just wondering why multiple tracks on the album have less than 1 million streams but there are 3 separate tracks with over 10 million. Where do people know these tracks from wtf
2/5
