Reviews (page 3 of 7)

Really fun album. Great beats

Silky smooth production with a great blend of R&B, Rap, and Pop.

Really enjoyed this album despite not having listened to this before.

Liked this album a whole lot more than I expected to. Waterfalls was the only song I had heard before and I didn't really care about it. I had never really listened to it. I heard it in We're the Millers and didn't recognize it, for context. Amazing learning this was where R&B evolved, bringing hip hop attitude and beats into R&B vocals and instrumentation for the first time. And it sounds really cool. It's also very clearly put together for an album experience, with "crazysexycool" incorporated throughout.

TLC (These Ladies are Cool)

Funny, also! (Along with those other adjectives)

so fun and nice!! TLC rocks :)

I was not expecting so many popular features, but even beyond those this was a pretty damn fine album. Waterfalls was my favorite TLC song for a while, so I naturally loved that, but other tunes like Creep, Kick Your Cool, Case of the Fake People, and Sumthin Wicked This Way Comes hit as well. There was a little slump in the middle for me, but overall I got a kick out of this one. Definitely gonna come back to it.

Pretty good. I enjoyed this album more than I thought I would. Creep and Waterfalls are still amazing songs, and people will still be listening to those in 100 years. At its best this album sounds of its time but not dated, if that makes any sense.

Just like the album's title, this is Crazysexycool. TLC was a force of nature, and its passing has left a void that will never be filled.

4.4/5: Really good and phenomenal length. Perfect balance of music vs interludes and perfect length for its style. Just a really good female RNB album.

This rocked. "Waterfalls" and "Creep" were the standouts. I wonder if The Lonely Island's "Do the Creep" was influenced by this and I just never knew it.

Better than you would initially think. Love Red Light Special. Waterfalls is a bit overplayed, but overall a pretty solid album. 3.5/5

this was so refreshing after like a week of lyricless 70s rock. thank you TLC. there was a lot of interludes but I felt like they all contributed to the vibe of the album. my favorite song was lets do it again

me lo aspettavo un po' più potente, ma ci sono "Creep" e "Waterfalls". Anche "Switch" molto carina.

Enjoyable listen. Waterfalls brings back a lot of memories. For me, not something I will revisit too often.

solid 4

This was a surprise! Seeing a hip-hop record from the 90s usually makes me sigh but this has a nice vibe. Felt a bit weird between all the prog metal that was fuelling my work day but this is absolutely something I would like to revisit when the time is right.

Hop hop bien fuerte y técnicamente bien soportado, voces fantásticas, pero tristes vidas de lujo y droga. No es mi música ni mis héroes, pero respeto su calidad.

I liked their first album much better

wasn't looking forward to it but really enjoyed it actually

This was the album that all the white girls suburban who thought they were hood played in High School. Waterfalls is a great song and creep was playing everywhere .. outside of that it is more nostalgia than actually good. Still, when I saw the cover I was "automatic 5" and it lost a star after actually listening to the whole thing.

I like it fine. Heard it for so many years it’s hard to get excited about it.

CrazySexyCool is the second studio album from TLC, a trio from Atlanta that made music combining R&B, soul, and rap. They made catchy, melodic songs that appealed to pop audiences, with danceable, hip-hop based beats, which helped make some of their songs club classics. Their work has a confidence - a swagger - that show it's connection with rap and hip hop. CrazySexyCool incredibly successful, becoming the best-selling album by a "American girl group" of all time. The album includes "Waterfalls," one of the group's biggest hit singles. The song's positive spin on a cautionary message was part of its universal appeal. It also includes "Creep," a song that has been remixed dozens of times by a range of DJs and producers.

very catchy and fun 90s rnb. that’s all i gotta say. it’s good lol

Awesome beats, better production, catchy melodies, great vocals and vibes. A peak intersection between 90s hip-hop, R&B, and pop. Best song: Waterfalls

Favorite Track: Creep

A fun throwback listen. Very much of its time - so some parts of the album have aged better than others. On a whole - there’s a lot here to like. Creep and Waterfalls are 90s R&B Classics.

Diggin' on this for an entire generation. Still wonderful.

super cool, very solid

In the 90's the singles from this album were played to death, and I haven't purposefully listened to any TLC since then. Listening now though, I liked this album quite a bit, even the old popular singles. The singing and songwriting are just great, so I'm glad I had the time away to appreciate it now.

Haven't heard this since I was a kid. This was like the first CD I bought myself. Still lots of fun but a bit long and my tastes have changed. Still, was a good time. 3.5/5

Classic 90’s R&B

In the midst of such turmoil, T-Boz, Left Eye and Chilli transform from rappers with attires scribbled with crayon on the tip to sensual yet serious songstresses keen on shaking off any preconceived notions on what they should be and what they were meant to be. Crazysexycool is an appropriate title for such an undertaking and is ultimately a success given what came out of it. Outside of the "ludes" (which were fine in their own right), Crazysexycool has a consistency that would surprise any first time listener into feeling that this album warrants another listen. Favorites: Creep, Kick Your Game, Diggin' on You, Red Light Special, Waterfalls, If I Was Your Girlfriend, Take Our Time, Switch, Sumthin' Wicked This Way Comes.

What a record. This came out in 94 when I was 4 and I remember really for the first time paying attention to the radio and starting to form memories around music. Since then I feel like I've specifically had some of these songs on repeat in my head. Which I find kind of funny, because this type of R&B Pop isn't necessarily my favorite style of music. I love "Waterfalls" and nothing could ever stop me from being able to remember that chorus. In my house if you start to hear someone hum that part you better not let them sing it alone. It's great hearing this one through nice speakers for probably the first time in my life (after thousands of listens)- the bass is amazing! I love the short intermezzo track "Intermission-lude". I was actually just driving yesterday for Thanksgiving and was listening to a more modern R&B album and it had this same little fade-in, loop4x, fade-out type track right in the middle of the album and I found it to be interesting. I wonder if it was inspired by the one on this album? Great album cover. They're obviously supposed to be looking sexy, cool (and crazy?), but to me they look cute and wide-eyed.

I knew I was going to enjoy this, but didn’t realize how much. Lots of great tracks. The whole thing has that mid-90s Babyface production sound. Lots of fun. Creep is 30 years old and it’s still one of the best songs. Everyone of a certain age can sing every word. Half can pull a full lip sync battle. Gen X geriatric centers are going to be a trip.

I'm not typically an R&B lover but this album was great and I would listen again. Obviously I know their hits so it was a pleasant surprise to enjoy more of their music.

Waterfalls is a good song

Solid, Andre 3000 verse a nice surprise

Funny how these things line up sometimes. This album turns 30 years old in exactly a week. Although I’ve personally never heard of TLC before today. I’m more familiar with the TV program of the same name than this group. And I’ll take the blame for this one. Because clearly I needed to educate myself. This may be some of smoothest and most seamless R&B music I’ve ever heard. In the 90s, R&B definitely reigned supreme over many different genres. But records were more focused on vibes than anything. Brown Sugar is a perfect example. Few people create a buttery smooth vibe like D'Angelo does. This album feels more in line with the pop rap side of things, while also bringing late 20th century soul music into the mix. And while these three might not be as renowned for their talents as something like Destiny's Child, but I find them equally as enjoyable to listen to. Aside from the closing track, the subject matter of most of these songs is generally pretty simple-minded and in line with the music of the time. But their delivery just oozes so much charisma that I don’t really care. They have good voices, good chemistry, and good energy on every song. Initially I didn’t know what to expect from this, but once I saw the admittedly brief, but stacked list of features, my interest was piqued. Anybody that can get André 3000 on a song has my respect. And man, the production is so awesome. How could it not be, considering many of these songs have Organized Noize credited on them. They do an amazing job too. Unfortunately, another name that can be found in the list of credits is P. Diddy. Which might be a first for me on the list. The weird thing to remember is that for as horrible of a person as he is, the impact he had on hip-hop in the 90s was pretty massive. But his very minor presence doesn’t bring this down much at all. I love when something I’m unfamiliar with is as fun as this is. Good stuff. Rating: 7/10

Waterfalls will always get me pumped

God, what a joy that was to listen to. I loved it as a 13 year old. I still love it now. The mood is perfect, TLC have such a cool balance between the members. I am just such a fan of this

Хороший альбом, приятный флоу

yep sexy and cool, sometimes crazy

Very solid album with a lot of great tracks but man am i glad that there aren’t pointless interludes on albums anymore 4/5

Easy 7.5 - 8 album. It funk, it flow it smooth. The type of music you'd listen to getting a manicure done, ladies gossiping on the side, you leaving the place extra fine, and yo fingers with a shine.

Pre-listening thoughts: DONT GO CHASING WATERFALLS Post/during listening thoughts: well… hmm. It’s really good at some parts and then other parts I feel like I’m walking in on something. It also gets weaker in the back half imo. Going to give this 4 stars because like out of context a lot of these songs eat so hard but idk if I’d revisit this as a full album (especially cause I'm not a fan of interludes) 8/10 DID I NEED TO HEAR THIS BEFORE I DIE: not as an album no Fav tracks: Creep, Kick Your Game, Diggin on You, Case of the Fake People, Red Light Special, Waterfalls

Typical 90s goodness 😋

It ended up being too long, but the good songs hold up pretty well 30 years later (including a couple of all time classics). 3.9

An immaculately vibey album. These are some of the most interesting beats and flows I've heard in a while. I absolutely loved the N64-ass stuff they used on "Diggin' on You". Intermission-lude and Sexy-Interlude were definitely not needed, but I adored the other ones. Favorite songs were Creep, Diggin' On You, Waterfalls, and Sumthin' Wicked This Way Comes.

Fun enough 3.5 rounded up since I let it play most of the work day

this is more my vibe! Best tracks: diggin on you, waterfalls

Loved this album when I was younger

This album is goated when it comes to 90s rnb/pop. This album always feels so nostalgic and still has the charm and awe that it did when I was young. I thought tboz was the shit when I was little and I still do. This album brought back good times.

I actually like this a lot. Maybe went on a little bit too long for me. But good beats. I think it aged pretty well too.

It's really hard to separate this album as a work from my memories of how big it was when I was 14. The harmonies are beautiful, and the production on this album is great. I didn't feel bored during any of the songs, and the hits were definitely hits for a reason 4/5

p731. 1994. 4 stars. Classy 90s US R&B done right, and the source of a host of mostly poor imitations (Spice Girls, All Saints, Destiny's Child, Sugababes). To what heights could they have aspired if they hadn't gone bust and burnt down their boyfriend's house?

I’m enjoying this way more than I thought I would considering this isn’t my genre at all. Honestly the only stuff I know about TLC is from VH1 retrospectives. I know Left Eye burns a house down around this time. I also agree with the opening track she was FINE. One issue with the format of the album a day thing. Somedays I’m not prepared for a song like Red Light Special, which is incredibly sexual. I’m driving to work and someone is talking about pussy. Like god DAMN. My sympathies to anyone who listens to these albums with family members lol. Other than that, very surprised by how much I liked this. It really does deserve the hype VH1 gives it. Since it isn’t my genre there are parts I was a little bored or underwhelmed by but over all? Thumbs up.

Surprisingly good. I hate hiphop, but this... maybe its because I just came from holidays 😅

So good!

An of the time classic, that has a several classic tracks, and a fun listen. Maybe not the one skit (iykyk)

Lots of memories with this one. Things that stand out? The hits were played everywhere, the video for “Waterfalls” was iconic and sadly, despite being the biggest selling girl group since the Supremes the group went bankrupt about a year or so after this was released. Turns out it was another example of the decades long tradition in the music industry of screwing over young, ignorant talent especially if they come from the hood. The headlines that each member was basically paid $55K annually despite being one of the biggest music acts in the world at the time was pretty shocking. Fuck music executives. Always shitting on the actual golden geese that produce the art, instead of nurturing it as the core of their whole business that artists obviously are. The album isn’t perfect: a lot of the production (especially the drums) is dated, the interludes are a bit juvenile and played out, and T-Boz isn’t likely to make anyone’s best singers of the 90s list. But no matter, it’s a clear example of each member bringing something unique and making the whole special. Their mixing of R&B, Pop, and Rap seamlessly definitely set the tone for the rest of the 90s and even up to today. R.I.P. Left-Eye, my personal crush amongst the three. TLC was basically over once she was gone, though they tried to go on with a new member.

I was pretty familiar with this album, but haven’t heard it in decades. It was such a nostalgia trip to go back and enjoy it. The songs, the subject matter, it all still holds up decades later. I enjoyed it a lot.

CrazySexyCool vocal performances meet SoulfulFunkySmooth production in this pop R&B benchmark.

very horny but good

Always on these long lists. I’ve listened to it at least twice while doing these. Not my style and Waterfalls still traumatizes me from when it first came out and was everywhere. But it is a worthy record of being on this list.

En vrai, c'étais bel et bien crazysexycool

Poptastic

A good album, loved the famous Don't Go Chasing Waterfalls song.

Tää oli kans kova! Hyvää ysäriä, niin letkeetä ettei rajaa.

it is indeed crazysexycool

Not my usual music, but not unpleasant. Waterfalls is superb

This album is so close to being phenomenal, but it just slightly lags for a bit right after Waterfalls, and that lag really highlights how long this album actually is--another unfortunate side effect of the CD era. It's nearly there though, but this album in general is great and a true classic.

Great R&B record. The production is conventional while still being interesting, vocals are smooth and the rapping is suprisingly very engaging! No complaints from me

Dooope!

The beats remind me of Hypnospace Outlaw a bit. The singing and overlaying harmonies are great, lots of strong songs. This would have been a 5 star, but it should have ended at the Prince cover. Because everything after that, besides André 3000 and Busta Rhymes surprise appearance, was just weak

the deeper i get into this list, the more i realise i could do a 1001 90's RnB albums to hear before you die and be very happy. smooth af, and Creep/Waterfalls are just a chefs kiss

Great car ride listen.

Classic. The name of the album is perfect. These ladies are queens.

Waterfalls is pretty good and the rest was fun. Not really my style, but I love what T-boz Left eye and Chilli stand for

Sweet sounds, not really my thing but easy to listen to

Exactly what it says on the tin

This was everywhere when it released. Being a middle school boy I had no interest as Iwas focused on alt-rock type stuff but every girl had this album. There's some serious bangers and some meh stuff. Way too many interludes too. Yeesh. Overall I'm bumping this to a 4 for subverting my expectations, obviously being important, and because Creep will be in my head for the rest of the damn day.

Yay women, yay not British rock. Very enjoyable and fun. I appreciate how they say the album name in every song they can. Favourites: intro-lude, creep, kick your game, red light special. 4/5

I was expecting it to be a girl group from the album cover, was disappointed by Intro-lude, but then pleasantly surprised when they started singing. I liked the hip-hop style instrumentals on similar levels of vibiness as The Chronic, but with chiller lyrics and singing (and they said the n word less). Quite well produced; I found the bass to be a little strong, though that may have been an issue with my earbuds. It did drown out the lyrics a little so I can't comment on them (also I'm terrible at processing audio). The instrumentals were a vibe and unique, although again the bass was a little too strong, so the beat got a little repetitive by the end. Still an extremely well produced and enjoyable album, 4/5. Favourites: Creep (interestingly, the song was written by their songwriter Dallas Austin, who wrote about the member T-Boz's former boyfriend who cheated on her, but later it turned out it was also based on Austin cheating on his at-the-time girlfriend), Kick Your Game, Waterfalls

Hooray, our second all female group !!!!! I really need to start writing the review or at least take notes while I listen because then I come back and forget what it sounded like as well as literally every single thought or opinion I had about it so then I have to relisten. Anyways, this ate. I liked the blend of hip-hop, R&B, and pop, it's just some cool stuff with some smooth instrumentals. Favourite tracks were Diggin' On You, Case of the Fake People, Red Light Special, and Let's Do It Again. Also I think they were trying to convey some sort of message... something about being controlled, undesirable, and lame? Not sure, they didn't repeat it enough times. Another 4

Not sure if the title of the album is supposed to be individually reflective of any specific member of the group but it is definitely appropriate for the sound and vibe if the album.

I loved this album when it came out. I listened to my copy all the time. It doesn't quite hold up - not as brilliant and classic as I remember - but it's still pretty great.

Not the kind of music I usually listen to, but enjoyed it from a nostalgic POV. Definitely sounds unique to the 90s!

that was a pretty fun time. great 90s r&b. not anything particularly mindblowing for me, but still a fun enough time. i felt the album was consistently good, and the andre 3000 feature on the last track was a pleasant surprise. overall, i enjoyed this one.

I had a good time

Such a good r&b album would go 4.5

I enjoyed that more than I should’ve. Was in a good mood and on a long road trip so pumped it up loud in the car and really enjoyed it. Knew more of it than I thought I would. Silly segue nonsense but that didn’t spoil my fun. I’ll give it a 4. Not sure whether that’s because I was I a good mood, or whether the album was good. I’ll listen again once my grumpiness returns.

Lol I had Janet Jackson yesterday with all the interludes and here we are again. Creep is great obviously. I really didn't like 90s RnB but some songs stand out with their quality. For that reason though I reckon the rest of this record is going to struggle with me. Oh apart from Waterfalls. Superb track, that, obviously (not sure about the rap though). So we are starting from a 2 minimum. Ha, why is there a cat singing on the next track. They do that under our living room windowsill at night when we're trying to watch TV, its really annoying. I really enjoyed Diggin on You. Just a really nice slice of RnB, who knew. Oddly I'm enjoying less the more obviously Prince-fluenced tracks like Kick Your Game and Fake People (honestly some of the vocals here I almost had to check he wasn't guesting), I would have thought the reverse would be true. Although the actual Prince cover If I was Your Girlfriend, is, as the book says, outstanding. Let's Do it Again is fair's fair, a toe tapper. Absolutely not the sort of thing I would stick on ordinarily. I am edging towards a 4 here - even though there's 3 or 4 tracks I don't care for, mainly because I enjoyed this a lot more than I expected to, especially considering it's almost an hour of RnB.

Good album

This album is everything it promises to be..crazy, sexy, and cool. I love the hip hop and soul mix! Obviously Waterfalls and Creep are classics, but the album has other songs I enjoyed. My only complaint is too many interludes…I enjoyed them, but theres no need for 5.

The “Leonardo decaprio in ‘The Revanant’ award for really good award winning performance and I thoroughly enjoyed it while watching but despite that, I will probably never rewatch/relisten to it again” goes to this album. A little bit of a low four for me but gosh darn those funky beats in waterfalls, shooo boy.

The first true peer to 1989. A mix of anthems and ballads. Romance, infidelity, drama, and ending it out with an uncredited Andre 3000 verse. This album is oozing with talent - P Diddy, Dupri, Babyface, and even Prince all have production looks. This album actually carries all the way through and doesn’t slow down. The main hit is midway through and they creatively use interludes to provide levity and keep the album from dragging in the second half. I really thought the last song had to be a throwaway, and then they kick it off with a verse from one of the greatest rappers of all time. It’s tempting to make this a 5 star, especially considering I only knew creep and waterfalls prior to listening. However, while this album was more consistent throughout, 1989 had significantly more hits front loaded. A strong 4 star performance.

Loved this album. Waterfalls is the GOAT

This album is way sexier than I remember. The guest appearances are consistently surprising and enjoyable. Maybe not a mind blowing album, but definitely one worth listening to.

What, really? I mean, it's better than I thought it was going to be.

This album still crushes it!

I love women's R&B. "Waterfalls" is great.

This album immediately went to the top of my sex playlist. Every song was super horny but I especially liked creep and red light special.

Am I not from the 90s?

No one says creep creep without quoting TLC. This group has had a huge cultural and it’s not too shocking why. They have made pop hit bangers in every album they made in the 90s. The pop R&B hits were a genre that TLC had ultimate control over as they did it so well. This album had several good ones and it’s awesome. Also the andre3k feature was a surprise, never heard that song before. This album is very solid and deserves more praise than it gets. 7.7/10

Whole album is a vibe

I don’t know why I would enjoy this album at all, but I do. ‘Waterfalls’ is a great song, and I did not know Andre 3000 was on the last track (this early in his career?). Anyway pretty good.

I enjoyed this more than I thought I would, so it gets the pleasant surprise bonus. It’s some good stuff!

Here's another 90's classic! A great hip hop album by a trio, before Destiny's Child existed. Creep and Waterfalls are both staples, and always remind me of The Other Guys now. Some songs were better than others, and it falls prey to the interludes, but overall great album.

Crazy? Not really. Sexy? Arguable. Cool? Most definitely. I know TLC, of course, for their timeless banger "Waterfalls," and that's here, so we're in business. They're in a nice sweet spot between hip hop and R&B, as opposed to many rappers today who sing, this strikes me as singers who like to rap. It's a good sound, definitely of the era, but it works well. Also really enjoyed the Andre 3000 contribution at the end, he's a master of that lane as well. Favorite tracks: Waterfalls, Sumthin' Wicked, Creep, Red Light Special, Switch. Album art: The three ladies lined up, just barely standing out from the red hue engulfing them. Are we to believe this is like a Three Stooges bit? Is one Crazy, one Sexy, and one Cool? No idea. 4/5

Some records are so of their time that they’re timeless documents of the decade, the era, and the genre. TLC manages that on their second album, slickly produced with a mix of funky ear worms and Hip-Hop adjacent attitude. “Creep” and “Waterfalls” together justify this record’s existence as a smash, and they still earn their place as R&B staples of the ‘90s and beyond.

Smooth R&B

I really didn’t want to be one of those people that just vaguely says that it’s not for them. They tried and it’s just not their type of music. So I wasn’t that kind of person. And it turns out it’s a fantastic album! No denying it. Loved it!

The only thing keeping this from being a 5 star album to me is a little letdown on a couple of songs post Waterfalls. The album finishes strong, though. Overall, this is a fantastic album with excellent songs and incredible production.

Great album! Was not expecting to like it this much. Will need to revisit again.

very horny album.. sexy-interlude is a personal highlight, i think. all seriousness tho, pretty good

A really good album that stands the test of time and also at the same time a snapshot of the era it is from. A keeper.

3.7 - Really good, was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. great 90's

Creep, Diggin' On You, Red Light Special - good tracks. Waterfalls is a bit too radio friendly for me, but hard to deny its a catchy iconic track. I'm not a big fan of the interludes, mainly because the Crazy Sexy Cool motif just seems really lame. I think this is a pretty solid R&B/Pop album. Fave Tracks: Diggin' On You, Let's Do It Again 3.8/5

I only knew TLC from some of their hits, prior to today's selection. I knew this was their big hit album, and it's easy to see why it made waves. Right off the bat, Phife Dawg being on the intro brought a smile to my face. I would have loved a guest rap from him, but this was still good. The rest of the album is good. The skits are kind of fun although I imagine they'd get old after many repeat listens. I really enjoy this era of hip-hop and R&B, and I liked the production on this album. The first appearances worked well and were infrequent enough that they never overshadowed the group themselves (modern albums often have guests on almost every track, so this is a nice change of pace). This was still early in Busta Rhymes' career. I always enjoy him showing up on a first spot, even if it's a skit like this. Now I need to go listen to Scenario again.

- this album was absolutely crazy, sexy and cool - couple of all-timers like Waterfalls - really enjoyed the voices

This is a really terrific album, and I really enjoyed hearing some relatively contemporary pop music by black female artists, rather than yet another 60s garage psych band as is so typical of Dimery's list. And this album actually sold! People liked it (not universally true of the 1001 albums list)! The production is ahead of its time (although still steeped in New Jack Swing). Singing is great, fantastic songs (especially Creep and Waterfalls). I love the cover of "If I Was Your Girlfriend" - it's a big stretch to cover Prince, especially at the height of his powers. I love the confidence of the group, although I really don't think we needed the interludes, which dilute the power of the powerful female presence on this record. Other than that, perfect.

Perfect 90s sound, well made, a couple classics. Top shelf 90s r&b. 4 flat.

tough to rate - a couple songs are great but the rest are kinda lame. I can imagine liking this a lot when it came out

Et j'ai bien aimé ! Ça m'a donné d'onduler comme les grands bonhommes en papier devant les marchands de voiture.

The beats and melodies (and of course, the vocal performances). Make this a really great album. I’ll definitely refer back to it for 90s beats inspiration.

I was pleasantly surprised how pretty and cozy these songs are. I know I’m late to the party but this is the album you want to put on when it’s just you and your special someone when no one else is around.

R+B classic right here, loved it, lots of recognizable songs on it

Very sexy (explicit in some songs!), funky and cool. Lots of singing and a little bit of rapping, so very much like a forerunner to Lauryn Hills amazing album. Really enjoyable sexy fun with a straight cover of Prince’s If I Was Your Girlfriend.

So good. So smooth

First listen to any TLC that wasn't in the charts. Some nice beats here. Will definitely listen to some more

The line ‘Three letters took him to his final resting place’ gives me chills every time. The prince cover was fun.

Great group sound, unique mixing and instrumentation

Lots of personality, lots of smooth grooves. I am honestly a bit of a prude (and ace), so sometimes I felt like I was intruding on something private haha. But sonically, this was pretty cool. 3.5, bumping it to a 4 because I am in a good mood today.

One of the first female rap groups paved the way for other to follow

Still sounds fresh and fun (even if some jokes are overdone). "Creep" and "Waterfalls" and "Girlfriend" are best cuts, but the cool-chill vibe holds throughout. One appreciates this record much more now than one did at the time, when one lived in the ATL and found all the Left-Eye/Rison stuff to be tiresome. Plus, one's tastes have expanded and deepened. It's pop music (R&B division) but with just enough heft and depth to go with the fun and sweetness. There's plenty of relatable (if often easy) emotion. A worthy Grammy winner and one wishes all 11-million-records possessed such merit.

It’s been years since I’ve attempted a full listen to this album. I’m familiar with all of the singles, but the R&B music on this entire album is just fantastic. Great groove and the lyrics are awesome. Powerful singing by all 3 singers , T-Boz Left Eye and Chili.

Always liked this album

Sultry vibe.

CrazyDanceyCool, 4 stars.

Listened Before? N Awesome record and undeniably nostalgic for anyone who lived through the 90s. Really enjoyed it. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: Creep

Really good!!

"CrazySexyCool" is the second album by American girl band TLC. TLC is Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins, Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes and Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas. A decent description of the music is hip hop beats, funk, deep grooves, propulsion rhythms and smooth production. The lyrics are cited as coming-of-age with themes of sexuality, romance and youthful optimism. There were personal issues during the recording with Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes' struggles with alcoholism and her relationship with football player Andre Rison. Multiple producers were used in the album including Sean "Puffy" Combs. The album was widely acclaimed, hit #3 on the US charts and has sold over 15 million copies. A hip hop beat and siren-sounding synth open "Intro-lude." A Tribe Call Quest's Phife rapping with TLC whispering. The first single "Creep" has a synth melody and is smooth R&B. A hip hop beat with some scratching. Nice multiple vocals. About infidelity. The last single "Diggin' on You" is a pop ballad. It's slower with a guitar, synth and drum machine. String sounds. "Red Light Special" continues the R&B ballad vibe. Some more strings. This reminds me of more of a 80's R&B song. Steamy lust..yeah! A drum beat, a wah -wah guitar and horns build the slow groove in their great "Waterfalls." It's funky with great vocal harmonies and choruses. Definitely, one of the best songs of the 90's. It's written about the illegal drug trade, promiscuity and HIV/Aids. The last song "Sumthin' Wicked This Way Comes" is a very good deep cut. Outkast's Andre 3000 starts rapping and he's coming for TLC. TLC answers with their confusion of love and how it's supposed to work. Groovy with the guitar. Great, soulful harmonization from everybody. Each of the four singles are bona-fined pop hits and great songs. They're sultry and sexy with great catchy choruses. The overall album is solid with high-end production. If you're looking to go back to the 90's for some good sounding R&B/pop, this would be it.

Excellent classic R n B Only ruined slightly by ass wiping interlude....

Mid 90s RnB was definitely the best!

I didn't love this as much as I thought I would, but I also am not a huge R&B fan.

Surprised I kinda liked this one

An Andre verse to boot. Good recommendation.

Fantastic album

Good and Groovy and "Waterfalls" is an all time classic.

Pretty apt title tbh, sums the whole thing up very well. It's aggressively horny but in a way that doesn't come across as too leery. Interludes and length are a classic problems of albums of this era and style, and definitely impact my enjoyment. But otherwise its a great listen. Possibly a bedroom album, but could also be a 90s club album. 27/06/23

-TLC!!!!! -icons. legends. the moment. -creep is a bouncy fun song -but we all know which song im waiting for -loooove kick your game -favorites: kick your game, waterfalls -WATERFALLLLLSSSSS -we all already know this album is getting four stars i mean come on now -the interludes really help make this album

They do their genre so well. Basically an all female version of Boyz II Men. I could have done without some of the voice interludes that I didn’t think added anything, but it’s smooth, rhythmic, and lyrical.

definitely a vibe - you can see how it shaped music that came after!

Got better with age. Voices that worked well together

Kinda more like 3.5 maybe but then the hits are very good and theres a few other wow moments so here it is 4.

Effortlessly cool in a way that almost makes me mad. These girls are the best. Minus one star for the toilet flushing sound which is so gross. Glad I didn't have this on headphones.

Respect for what TLC did for women in music and especially R&B The whole album just exudes a horny teenage energy Waterfalls is iconic 3.5/5

First of all, I loooooved TLC. Second, this is just a straight up fantastic album. Excellent production, just the right mix of R'n'B, pop, and hip hop for crossover appeal. Certified banger. 4/5

Oh hell yeah. This is fire. 90s R&B at its finest. Loved it, very enjoyable except for the interludes, which I almost never enjoy. A tad repetitive, but I didn’t really mind. 4/5

Often emulated but never matched. Not usually on my playlist but I had fun revisiting this album.

Better than atomic kitten worse all saints

Super fun!

Excellent 90’s R&B Album

As a whole this is not for me but it’s really well executed and there was some excellent rapping on this. The Andre appearance and Waterfalls gets it to a light 4.

Prime time 90's R&B. Not always right, but hits when it does

Grooves for days. A hell of a lot of fun. Crazysexycool is more than a title, it’s an ideal state of being, and a unifying concept for the record. Most songs hit the mark in peeling back the layers of crazysexycoolism. Some of the lyrics leave something to be desired, and some of the songs don’t feel as essential as others. But this is a landmark album for hip-hop and R&B, and it still holds up.

Waterfalls is a monumental song. Not everything on the album can reach that peak, but the album is solid overall and as good as 90s new jack swing/R&B got. Extra points for the exceptional Prince cover.

Liked this more than I expected. I thought it was going to be filled with commercial pop but it was actually very good R&B.

This album was a fun change of pace and I had never heard the whole thing before today. It was a nice fusion of hip-hop and R&B, and "case of the Fake People" confirms my suspicion that it influenced Drake, one of the most important artists of the 2010s. The hits (Creep and Waterfalls) are really great, but there is filler (like the Busta Rhymes interlude) that I would have cut. I was thrilled by the surprise Andre 3000 feature on the last track. Hopefully some Outkast is on this list.

just enjoyed ngl

Laid-back sound, excellent vocals.

Thought this would just be early '90s silliness but the vibe is very chill and cool, indeed. The "Girlfriend" Prince cover is a winner and "Waterfalls" barely cracks the top 5 on this record. Has held up well, for the most part, though a few jokes try to hard and don't land, for which an R&B record nearly three decades old can be forgiven.

4/5. Honestly not a bad song on here but some okay songs that could be removed for a nice tight album.

Really nice.

A great time. Loved the sounds, lyrics were only ok but the singing was fantastic. Just the right length for this type of album and perfectly sequenced. Only other issue was most of the interludes were unnecessary, but it wasn't really a major issue. A great record

90s RnB that was ahead of its time Still sounds fresh.

"Creep" and "Waterfalls" are the two most known songs on the album. Thought it was pretty good but do think it was a bit too long. 7/10.

Absolutely balls to the walls horniness and I respect that.

CrazySexyCool is the second album by American hip hop/R&B girl group TLC. The album was seen as a coming-of-age project for the group and it was met with critical acclaim and commercial success. It spent over two years on the Billboard 200 chart - peaking at number 3 - it has been certified 12 times platinum - which means TLC was the first girl group to be awarded diamond certification - and the album won the 1996 Grammy award for Best R&B Album. The four singles from this album all reached the top 5 of the Billboard Hot 100 - two of them reached number 1. The popular single "Waterfalls" is known around the world, even if the individual listener isn't aware that the artist is TLC. The group had lessened their use of rap in this album and decided to spice things up with more R&B and soul elements. This gave the album a smooth, seductive sound that appealed to mainstream audiences. This album still has influence on the hip hop and R&B genres of today, and it's been argued that TLC's blending of these two genres for this album is what keeps the genres so connected to this day. I'm glad I finally got to listen to this awesome album in its entirety!

Great vibes, wasn’t expecting such a fun album

Classic old school RnB, smooth beats, beautiful vocals and hypnotic harmonies. I wasn’t even born when this album came out but it makes me feel nostalgic. Great vibes all round!

I got the greatest compliment in 1994 while standing in line waiting to get in to a downtown bar in Lincoln, Nebraska. An attractive black woman looked at me with elevator eyes and said, "Damn, look at that ass. I bet you could fry an egg on that ass." I don't even know what that means. I never really thought I had much of an ass. But I love eggs, especially fried ones. I should have tried picking up that sassy woman. I bet she would have rocked my world, and you're goddamn right we would have fried eggs in the morning. Such was the mood in 1994. We were all as horny as this album. Hell, maybe this album is the reason we were all horny (it was literally playing everywhere, the thing is loaded with bangers, including a horny cover of a horny Prince song). Maybe I thought that fried egg loving black girl was out of my league. Maybe I was taking TLC's advice: I didn't go chasing waterfalls; I stuck with the easy putts. I remember taking a woman named Kimber to see The Specialist starring Sylvester Stallone and Sharon Stone. We went and had wild sex on her kitchen floor afterwards while "Digging on You" played on her stereo. I never saw her again. But "Digging on You" will always be our song.

I would have a hard time sticking with an album that was 56 minutes of hip-hop. Ditto an album that was 56 minutes of R&B. The variety is what makes this album special. Mixing in the hip-hop makes the R&B better and the R&B makes the hip-hop better. Other variety factors that keep it interesting and exciting are having a male and female rappers in the same song and having duets on the R&B segments. There are some traditional full on soul girl group songs such as Diggin' On You and Take our Time where they show how well they sing and harmonize. Also, society's declining ability to censor allows for much more provocative lyrics (eg Red Light Special) than those sung by the more famous soul girl groups from preceding decades. Finally, Waterfall is an excellent song. (RIP Left Eye)

While I was never a big fan of "R&B", I think that this trio, pumping out their hits in the genre's golden era is about as good as it gets. The three vocalists keep it fresh, as do the few dozen backup vocalists, plus the guitar and bass players who give it a Sly Stone/Isley Brothers vibe - without samples. My co-judge says it's catchy. I'm disappointed "No Scrubs" isn't on it but I'll listen to that one next!

I knew I would enjoy this one! We own the CD from back in the day. Great album from top to bottom. I think my least favorite song was the biggest hit off the album, Waterfalls. But even my least favorite is a good song. Cover of Prince's, if I was your girlfriend, was bonus. Crazysexycool is the perfect name, for a great album. Have listened many times and will listen again. 4 out of 5

4 This one surprised me. Don't get me wrong, No Scrubs and Waterfalls are bangers, but I never thought a 90s pop girl group album would be amongst my favorites so far... yet here we are. Just about every song on this album is a banger. Admittedly, it did start losing me a bit after Waterfalls, but it pulled me back in with Switch, and then finally with an absolute killer finale in Sumthin' Wicked This Way Comes. While I don't think this could ever crack the status of being a "top album" for me, I would listen again in a heartbeat. Favorite songs: Waterfalls, Sumthin' Wicked This Way Comes, Creep, Diggin' on You

I was familiar with TLC. Overall it was good and a lot of the songs were recognizable. The most surprising song was the cover of Prince's "If I was Your Girlfriend." I didn't know that they covered that song, it is a good cover. Not sure why they needed to keep saying the name of the album in multiple songs. The album was just under an hour and it felt a little long.

creep, diggin on you, waterfalls, if I was

Surprised at how nostalgic this made me feel. This has a generally uplifting vibe that I really miss in more modern pop music. The beat production and sampling technology had reached a place where the hop influence could be incorporated into the songs very fluidly. I think it holds up really well. The Prince cover was a nice touch and the Andre 3000 appearance at the end made me turn my head to check and see if Spotify hadn't gone on shuffle.

Enjoyed this and immediately listened to their next album too :)

very good, can sound samey as product of its time but the highs are high. 7/10

some amazing tracks. Listened to this a ton of times because its peak 90s nostalgia for my wife. not a perfect album by any means but it definitely answers the question "what did make-out music sound like in the second half of the 90s

Surprisingly good. I was too young to appreciate this when it came out.

4.1 - I was expecting a bubblegum teeny record but I couldn't have been more wrong. This is full-on grownfolks music, i.e. people be fucking to this. I like the big hits, "Creep" and "Waterfalls" - terrific production on both songs. "Red Light Special", maybe my favorite track on the album, is sexy AF, especially with the bridge that leads to a guitar solo. I even like their cover of "If I Was Your Girlfriend", though not as much as Prince's original. And as far as skits go, "Sexy-Interlude" is actually pretty hilarious.

Rating: 8/10 Best songs: Creep, Diggin on you, Red light special, Waterfalls

It’s weird that the song everyone knows from this album (“Waterfalls”) knows a little antithetical to the album. The album itself felt more hip-hop than R&B. I have to wonder what would have happened if they had continued. Anyway, most of the songs were pretty good, even the interludes were enjoyable (probably because they were music and not skits). I would have liked to have known the guest vocals, that made it more hip-hop to me, having Busta Rhymes and whoever else there. Overall there were one or two songs I might say meh to, but a strong outing.

What a great varied album. Some phenomenal tracks in there and even if there is a lack of No Scrubs on this one, it more than makes up for it

of course i know waterfalls but i’ve never heard another song by them but i actually really enjoyed it. it was super groovy and catchy, especially switch!

A great sounding groovy R&B album - was not in my wheelhouse when it came out although the great singles "Creep" and "Waterfalls" were unavoidable. Glad to give this a full listen as I appreciate it way more today - good songwriting and musicianship (noted: guitar solo on "Red Light Special") and even if it's not my preferred genre this is a great album with top-notch catchy songs and fantastic production especially for 1994. Recommended. 7/10 4 stars.

Classic bit of 90s.

Really enjoyed that.

- slows jams definitely scream the 90s - many many ludes??? fav was the sexy one tho - rap in waterfalls SO good - if i was your girlfriend <3 - intro to sumthin wicked this way comes was speaking truths

I really didn't notice any tracks that stood out other than the singles. Good though.

Exactly as the title of the album says

3.5/5. Pretty good, better than average. I liked the general vibe of this album, 90s RnB. The track that I liked the most was 'Diggin' On You'.

This is the reason they are one of the formative girl groups of the 90s

Класный олдскульный r'n'b. Альбом 1994 года, получается это прародитель всего засилья, что было на Mtv в 2000х. Послушал с огромым удовольствием, хоть это и не мой жанр.

Please stick to the rivers and the lakes that you're used to. Best track: Creep

Not really my thing but this is about as prototypical mid-90s R&B as you can get. Solid album. Worth listening to.

8/10, real nice introduction to soul and r&b, sex sounds were great too.

Very saucy

Yea, this is an important album

False advertising, wanted more soul.

Pretty good album but it has too many intermissions that bloat the runtime

This is quintessential 90s listening, from T-Boz's sultry voice, down to the ridiculous interludes before the songs. Love it.

Although I was familiar with TLC - difficult to miss them in the 90s, they were everywhere - but had not really listened to their music. Listened to this album and it's great. Really nice mix of R&B groove, hip-hop, and some fantastic vocals (those voices, wow!). Enjoyed this one.

Eine meiner Lieblingsgruppen, eins meiner Lieblingsalben, sehr sexlastig lol

Good shit

THE BEGINNING AND THE CHORUS OF DIGGIN ON YOU!!!! EXACTLY!!!!!! shooby doooo if i was your girlfriend exactly this album is so good it's the pinnacle of the word sexy and lisa's rapping voice is something else the way her words bounce off is the best the instrumentals here are so catchy i loveeee it

Not bad some good tracks

Never forget Left Eye!

It was crazysexycool

wa. ter. falls.

7/10. this definitely has some jams, but it got a little samey and i think the lyrics were very predictable/cliche

Groovy but samey. 7

TLC is good. Definitely didn’t expect to listen to this all the way through. That’s probably on me though because many people seem to like them.

8/10. Got better as I went. The sexy interlude almost made me want to give it a 9, because it was amusing.

Pretty good R&B but a little slow and boring in parts. 7

Bit too many sex interludes

Iconic songs and features great sounds love me some good rnb 4.2

This is some of the best female R&B - Interlude.

These ladies talk about sexytimes a lot.

Water falls is my jam 🥵

Yes, yes, yes!!

Nostalgia for me

Hell yea 90s r&b. Two great singles off this one “Creep” and “Waterfalls” and all the cameos were awesome- Andre 3000, Busta Rhymes, Black Thought maybe?

Cool. TLC, they the ones...

Lækkert R&B album. Fede numre og de har altså noget glimt i øjet og sex i stemmen. En del fyld.

Unexpected track about taking a dump gains this album an extra star

really good beats

ATL represent! Great songs with slick, polished production and the right mix of R&B/hip hop, soul and pop ensuring massive crossover appeal. All star guest cast cameos. The blueprint for many female groups that followed in their footsteps! 3.5⭐️

TLC really really want to let us know that they are crazy, sexy and cool. Oh and they know you’re looking at them, they can see you watching and they are really horny ladies. This is pretty much the vibe of the entire album. It’s not for me, I have no fond memories of this record although I would say TLC would have been far too cool for me at the time (I think this was the era I was really into ABBA). It must have been quite unusual for a group of women to be so vocal and open about their sexuality so for that I can appreciate them. Also Waterfalls is a banger.

It feels like half this album is people explaining the title to you. I love Busta Rhymes but he was the 23rd person to tell me that a woman has got to be not only crazy, but sexy when she needs to be, and you know, why not also a bit cool, too? I get it, it’s fine, stop telling me. Anyway, this album was more fun than I thought it would be, relentlessly horny (and crazy and cool don’t forget!!) to the point of absurdity, and there’s a lot catchy choruses on here - and mercifully very few skits. And of course Waterfalls is one of the greatest pop songs ever.

Crazysexycool. Let’s hope it is. Introlude: an intro and a fun play on words. I thought it had a bit of a bop to it. Going into Creep, it was ok but took all the energy the intro had and threw it away. Parts of Kick your game had that energy when the female vocalist rapped. Those were the only bits I liked. Case of the fake people had a nice drumbeat to it. OH, this is the album with Waterfalls on it. Well, I’d be a fool to disparage Waterfalls. I did end up quite enjoying the interludes! Sexy-interlude was probably the first time this album tried to live up to the sexy part of its name, but then it completely derailed at the end with the toilet. Take our time was actually quite pretty. Can I get a witness name-dropping the album title was sort of funny. Switch was quite fun! To close, Sumthin Wicked was probably one of the best tracks on this album! 3.5/5 ⭐️, just for waterfalls and sumthin wicked. I barely thought there was anything crazy, sexy, or cool about this album. 174/1089

I've got high hope for this one going into it. I really like the sexy energy on this one. "Let's Do It Again" is ultra horny. The songs I really find myself liking the most are all of the interludes/-ludes. At the end of the day, I cannot really see myself coming back to this album though. I probably would only ever play it if I was trying to seduce someone.

Crazy and sexy… was it cool. Eh

It’s a beautifully structured album - the use of interludes here makes it feel like a proper mixtape - but the music is extremely ordinary, and for that reason it sits squarely at a 3.

Hip Hop Soul/R&B Favorite Songs: Creep, Diggin’ On You, Waterfalls, If I Was Your Girlfriend Least Favorite Song: I feel like I would be cheating if I choose Sexy (Interlude), so I’ll go with Take Our Time While I don’t have an outright non-interlude song that I hate, and there’s a few good gems in this album (with Waterfalls being my personal favorite due to this song charting the billboard charts on the week of my birth), I wouldn’t say that I crave on wanting to relisten to the entire album again. That’s not to say that it’s terrible or that it’s boring, but it’s more so that I’m not sure if this album is made for me. It’s a good album, but I don’t think that I want most of it in my personal music collection. 7/10

Very good album

This genre just isn’t for me. Generally the hits are great but even they haven’t really stood the test of time and my faves (No Scrubs and Unpretty) aren’t on here, maybe Fanmail should be the pick from them. And the skits are hugely cringeworthy and unfunny, half a star knocked off for them. 2.5

Absolutely not my genre, but it came out in my youth and I liked Creep and Waterfalls back then and it's kind of nice hearing them again. The rest does hold up and it's definitely very sexy and cool.

Wow what amazing woman

A solid R&B album with some really high peaks but also some very mid lows. The smoother songs vibe really well with me whilst the more hip-hop centric songs aren't really my favorites. Interlude parts on a track is also something I don't really vibe with since it takes me out of the moment. I can appreciate artist telling a story but those tracks are an instant skip for me if I come across them at any other time while listening to music.

A milestone album for female empowerment.

Truly classic ‘90s R&B—scratches that itch if it’s what you’re looking for.

“But all the praying just ain't helping at all 'Cause he can't seem to keep himself out of trouble So he goes out and he makes his money the best way he knows how Another body laying cold in the _______” Any sane person would choose rubble to complete the rhyme scheme here but these maniacs chose gutter??? What the fuck. How did they get away with this?

Cool songs. Overall the album was ok.

1001 Albums Generator 306 (6/4/2026) Here's one that surprised me. Nothing comes close to touching Waterfalls, but there are some good tunes here. 3/5. Favs: Creep Case of the Fake People Waterfalls Least Fav: Sexy-Interlude

i really like waterfalls but the other songs are just ok. 3.5/5

Been thinking a lot about the skit that plays it up like its gonna be a sex but shes actually taking a shit. I didnt like hearing it at the time, but the more I think about it, the more I think its genuine genius. If its meant as a piss take of those self indulgent skits on countless early 90s albums, its great. If its just someone taking a shit, who knows The album is good apart from that. Good songs, done well, good features.

Okay overall. I think there may have been too many interlude tracks, but not a bad album by any a stretch.

Just a weird album. Some really high moments, but also a lot of lows. The interludes are not interesting enough for me to warrant their existence (as is the case for most interludes).

I thought they were an unknown band to me, until I heard Waterfalls. At least, I knew them. Good music, by the way.

2026.06.01.

Its fine, enjoyable listen, nice summer album, drags a bit near the end

Favorite Track: Waterfalls

I really wanted to love this more you know but it does have some iconic songs

круто музыка для секса плотные биты и ненадоедающий вокал коллектив хороший переслушивать буду 3.5

The soundtrack for Pony Club teen girls getting edgy.

Wel funky old school, maar beetje t zelfde altijd

1. Was okay, favorite songs were Waterfalls (no surprise there) and Sumthin' Wicked This Way Comes.

Good album a anthem for feminisim in music. Few bangers but a lot of the other songs feel like the same exact beat. Last two songs were the best and the different one of the pthers was waterfalls. Definitively aimed for women not my thing. Sone good interludes even sone are better than actual songs.

A weak 3, but still had enough good songs to make it. Having 5 interludes is crazy.

Legendary trio who I haven’t listened to until now. I always liked Left Eye Lopez’s eye black. Points for that.

Everyone knows creep and waterfalls but most of this album is pretty good.

Quintessential 90s RNB . Waterfalls is an all time favourite of mine . polished production and the great mix of R&B/hip hop, soul and even pop resulting in massive crossover appeal. Still sounds great today

Perfectly respectable

The three hits are still fantastic. As always, skits/interludes are a damn waste of time.

Felt the quality dipped after Waterfalls a little bit but I still really enjoyed a lot of what was on this.

Look. I love TLC. I really do. They're innovative, groundbreaking, EXTEMELY talented, and worthy of ALL the praise they've received over their career (RIP Lisa!)... I didn't love this album. I LIKED it, I just didn't LOVE it. It's likely not their fault, but much of it is repetitive; it just starts to sound like the same song over and over. The hits are FANTASTIC (hence the description). Whoever chose those to be singles was right on the money... but the rest of the record just falls a little flat for me.

Not really my choice of music, but I was cruising along in intending to give it a four until I got to the asswipe lyric which cost it a star

you know it aint bad but it aint amazing, girlypop music you go but its not so impressing that i would rate it any higher
