BANGER NO NOTES

This was a repeat album for me since I first heard it before the start of the group. It was also the first album I gave a 5. After ~450 albums and a much broader sample size, I was curious to relisten and see if I'd still rate it that highly. And to my surprise, it still holds up. All of the tracks were pretty catchy. And if it didn't have any interludes, it'd be even better.

This is a great album includes some absolute classics.

Yes. This album and videos were a great aide for puberty as well as great songs.

This album is too long but it contains some of the most formative RnB songs of my childhood. The confidence in these vocal performances is undeniable. This is sit up and listen music. Creep and Waterfalls are their biggest hits but Red Light Special is hands down my favorite TL song and the sexiest song of the very sexed up 90s.

This is more like it. This is one of the greatest albums of all time. You should give me artists I listen to more often than you do. Stop throwing crap at the wall to se what sticks. I'm incredibly picky about my music and won't listen to just anything, that's why most albums you shown me haven't been listened to, and won't be listened to.

I owned this CD when I was little. I have always like TLC. I’m not sure if I ever listened to the whole album before though. I’m sure I did, but probably only once or twice. I tended to just listen to the songs I liked. I knew quite a few songs on here though.

9/10 super fun R&B, really enjoyable stuff here

I have a few confessions about this album. First, I honestly thought it came out much later in the 90s. In my memory, “Waterfalls” was still all over the radio well into the second half of the decade. Second, I had no idea TLC was still an active group. And third, while this wouldn’t be a five-star album for me personally, it absolutely earns that rating when I step back and look at it objectively. The roster behind it is stacked. You have heavy hitters like Jermaine Dupri, Chuck Thompson, and Diddy (in his pre-scandal days) on production, plus guest spots from André 3000 and Busta Rhymes. TLC was one of the most dominant acts of the 90s, and this album shows why. The whole thing oozes nostalgia, with smooth, slow-burn tracks that feel tailor-made for late-night listening. “Red Light Special” makes its intentions crystal clear, and the closing stretch is a nice change of pace. “Switch” is pure fun, and “Sumthin Wicked This Way Comes” closes things out with some great guitar work that I could have sworn was sampled from somewhere, though I could never find proof. This is TLC at their peak, and even if it is not in my personal all-time top tier, it is a landmark album that deserves the recognition.

So good!! Idk how I have never listened to this

I’m about a decade too young to truly appreciate this record, especially as a young woman, but I did experience it in a lesser sense through the millions of 2000s girl groups and female R&B singers I saw on TRL in middle school and high school. I fully walked into this expecting to like it, but not love it. “There’s so many R&B albums I would put above Crazysexycool,” I said to myself, “It’s not even my favorite TLC album!” And then I pressed play. Hell, it wasn’t even actually listening to this album. It was how, for the next 24 hours, despite listening to other music, I kept humming these songs to myself, and not even the hits. I was humming the deep cuts!! That is how great this record is. It is just impeccable ‘90s R&B. The major hits rope you in, and the minor hits give it momentum, but it’s the detail in the tracks between that really make this record special. There’s such a diverse range of emotion expressed on Crazysexycool. You can feel how intentional that aspect is both in the lyrics and in the music itself. More importantly, this feels like an album especially targeted at the Female Experience™️: going from turned on to making fart jokes to piss off a man, bitching out fake friends to deep self-reflection about your own flaws, trying to be the hottest girl around (mentally, socially, and physically) to just trying to chill out and vibe. There’s so much depth here, you almost forget that it was also a hit-machine. I mean, hell, Left Eye’s verse on “Waterfalls” alone is kinda shocking in and of itself, showcase the dichotomy, and on ONE OF THE BIGGEST SONGS OF THE 90s, to boot?! Sprinkle in a Phife feature *and* an Andre 3000 feature, and you have an amazing record, even today. Honestly, the weakest thing about Crazysexycool is that Left Eye isn’t featured more on it. Sure, some quick research will make you realize that her vision and artistic direction are pretty much the main things driving this record, but her literal presence is still a notable absence. I could also see a critique about the interludes, but the more I think about it, they add texture to the themes; it was the CD era, interludes were made to be skipped if you’re just trying to vibe, but sometimes an artistic statement needs context, and I think the interludes provide that. Still not my favorite TLC record. Still would argue that there’s even better R&B albums from this era that should’ve made the cut. But neither of those things take anything away from how amazing Crazysexycool is.

Love it

I am a straight man in my 40's, so I almost skipped listening to this one just because I didn't think it was going to be for me. But in all honesty, this was a pretty good album! The beats were solid and the vocals were on point. TLC's radio hits don't do them justice.

This is SO MY VIBE today! This is exactly what I wanted to hear. This type of groovy r&b chill electronic 90s music is one of my forgotten passions. I listened to it all this morning, and it was so the vibe. I will now be listening to Creep on repeat for the rest of the day. Wow what a good one.

Banger after banger. Sequenced to perfection. A mid 90s hip hop-informed r&b treasure with so much spunk.

Classic RnB, love it

I like this album much more than I thought I would. The song with Andre 3000 is particularly great. Overall, it does stand up, and it has a lot of amazing songs. I'd maybe give it a 4 for my own personal taste, since I'm not so into R&B and some of the album falls flatter to me, for that reason. But, I'd bump it up to 4.5 to add a bit for the overall influence and impact. However, since we can't do half-stars here, I'll bump it up to 5.

A perfectly balanced no-skip R&B album. I’m slightly too young to have been a fan when it came out, but you still couldn’t escape Waterfalls. Still great!

Barely a track that doesn't hit hard. Could go without the interludes of 90s hip hop, but worth it for the main content!

So incredibly stellar, what a treat.

Just amazing perfect time capsule of a really awesome time in music.

Kick Your Game

CrazySexyCool is one of the sexiest records of all time and one of the very best albums of any genre of the 1990s. Read more about it: https://open.substack.com/pub/richcain/p/project-1001-crazysexycool-by-tlc?r=4ztyq&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=false

Why don’t all R&B albums Sounds like this? It’s perfect from front to back. Not a single mediocre track here.

As good as R&B could get in the 90s… maybe ever. A

I've never listened to this full album, and I can say this morning that it is fucking flawless. No skips, amazing production & hooks, the interludes and skits are short and funny, the singles are perfect, and it deservedly went diamond and changed the course of pop r&b.

Usually not a fan of this kind of thing, but TLC nailed it. It's both fun and heartbreaking ("Waterfalls" tackles hip-hop themes from a female perspective), but it never gets into the kind of watery, schmaltzy filler tracks that usually drag this genre down.

banger

That took me back. I hadn't listened to this album in years. It still sounds great even now, 30 years later. There are a few filler tracks that do let it down, but there are more than enough absolute classics that far outweigh the weaker tracks and elevate it. It was ground-breaking in many ways at the time, and led to a whole host of other female groups combining R&B and rap.

I LOVE TLC ICONIC FOREVER

Cooool, smooth.

More fabulous than I recalled.

I never knew phife was on the opening interlude track. A ton of good singles off of this

The album title says it all. Beautiful R&B from the finest to do it.

This album is beyond amazing.

Amazing. Such a fun listen. A classic.

How is the album not more highly rated? Y'all are scrubs. This album is classic.

I got this at the time off the back of Waterfalls and Creep. It only sounds better over time. It has Andre 3000, Busta and Phife as guests. And yet Left Eye's bars are the best on the album. It's soooo good.

I was nine years old when this album came out, and sadly, this is my first time listening to this from start to finish. R&B and Hip Hop were pretty much forbidden in my household when I was growing up (if you were to sneak up behind my parents and whisper "Antifa" at them, they'd probably drop dead of fright), but this album was so omnipresent in popular culture that even a sheltered kid like me knew "Waterfalls" and "Creep." It always blows my mind that this album came out in 1994, because "Waterfalls" was in heavy rotation on the radio for what felt like five years. R&B is probably one of my least favorite genres, but I thought this album was really good. It's incredibly well produced, features some great lyrics, and has some great arrangements. Not every track is a winner, but the songs that stand out are rich in sound; the arrangements are simple, but incredibly catchy and melodic. The horns on “Creep,” the guitar on “Red Light Special,” and the soulful synthesizers on “Diggin’ On You” are fantastic and set these songs apart as some of the best work on the album. As good as those songs are though, “Waterfalls” is easily the crowning achievement of this album. The wah-wah synthesizers, the horn interludes, and the incredibly catchy lyrics make this one of the best songs on the decade. The drums and bassline make this song an absolute delight to groove to, creating a stark contrast to the dark themes of the lyrics. This album is soulful, mature, and sexy, making it a standout of the decade. I was going to give this album four stars, because a few songs are duds, and I wasn’t wild about the vocals, but after sitting down to write this review, I’ve changed my mind, and I think that this album is worthy of five stars from me. I had a really fun time going through this, and it’s an album I’d put on again.

Day 11 of listening to 1001 albums one day at a time. Honestly this album lives up to its name. It’s crazy, it’s sexy, it’s cool. The album has a lot of classics like waterfalls or creep and I think with those being the most popular they probably say the most on the entire album. It has a great mix of hip hop infused into to some tracks, love the Andre 3000 feature at the end. You can definitely see this album laying down the frame work for other R&B groups to come and it’s very influential. It’s a fun and sexy album that I think does everything it set out to do.

This indeed made me feel crazysexycool. 10 of 10 would listen again.

sexy and good music. didn't know anything from them except no scrubs but def will give them another listen. really good music and fun!

Crazy, sexy, cool is right. Between the slow jams and the karaoke bangers (Waterfalls is my go-to), this album was amazing then, and it's amazing now! Plus points for a record where even the interludes are enjoyable.

Wow. One of the best RnB/Pop albums

All I knew about this album going in was that my kid has it on a tshirt and I don’t really like Waterfalls. (Not even the Weird Al version!) So when I told my wife this was the album of the day she said “Oooh, you’ll like it!” I was curious to see. And I really did! It really is crazy, sexy, and cool. Good beats, tight vocals, fun lyrics. I still don’t like Waterfalls though. Songs added to Spotify: 4

GREAT RnB album! grew up with a lot of thee songs without realizing it. stand outs are of course Creep and Waterfalls (also the music video with its time appropriate CGI), listened to this from start to finish and enjoyed the whole experience

One of the best ever!

I liked it.

Hits all three targets! I'd say 25% crazy, 35% sexy and 100% cool, showing that it is 160% as good as most albums. Two massive hits, up there with any 90s r&b pop, and a bunch of tracks way better than mere "filler". I'm still not a huge fan of skits and interludes, but they work well here. Also, so many very cool guests - which I didn't really know before. A great album.

Crazysexycool is an album that lives up to its name. I know that I have listened to this album before, but it's been a long time and there were many tracks that didn't ring a bell for me. It's really good!

I had Ooohhhhh...On the TLC Tip back in the day and enjoyed it well enough. Heard Waterfalls on the TV/radio a LOT and liked it well enough, too. But I don't think I ever listened to all of Crazysexycool so this was mostly new. Had a lot of fun grooving with T-Boz, Left-Eye, and Chilli today and look forward to doing it again. Crazy, sexy, and cool.

I did not think I was going to love this album. Sure I like Waterfalls well enough. But a whole album? Didn’t listen to it back in ‘94 and didn’t feel the need to do so today. It’s homework so here we go… The sound of this wasn’t any big surprise. Pretty much what I would expect (except maybe the yowling cat on Kick Your Game - who’d a thought THAT could work so well?!). What was a surprise was how much I enjoyed this! These ladies are… well… CrazySexyCool… as advertised. The vibe was laid back and hit me oh so right today. I love it when my old judgy self gets a little schooling… and class went down oh so well today.

I’ve always felt that tlc were either brilliant geniuses or untalented hacks. I’m still not sure. I picked in 1994 that they’d ripped off McCartney in waterfalls. Big fan of McCartney II. But then TLC groove. It’s a tragic tale of left eye. But a tragic death doesn’t mean you were air weren’t a genius. I’m giving this five. But if it turns out they are untalented hacks they get 1.

feels like 7th grade. Legends. Very fun listen. Classic R&B album. RIP Left Eye

This album is just pure gold (as a man who’s never listened to an RnB album before). I adore how “Switch” samples “Mr. Big Stuff” by Jean Knight, and of course “Waterfalls” is amazing. “Case of the Fake People” is probably my favorite song from the album due to its message.

A really well-polished 90s R&B record that warrants its extensive length with standout cuts and thoughtful deep cuts, with only a few slightly weak ones toward the end, but nevertheless enjoyable. Hearing a lot of Prince and contemporary trip hop in terms of laid-back soulful samples and harmonic vocals that illuminate each song with a unique presence, with songs like "Diggin For You" serving as a more focused result of what New Jack Swing from a few years back couldn't quite accomplish. It's consistent, with similar-sounding songs setting a nice even flow but never coming off as repetitive or exhausting. This is the type of music that dominated the 90s Billboard, but the vast majority of that is uninspired trash. And I feel like most of that is sourced from failed attempts at copying TLC's success.

As good as that type of music gets.

Sonzao muito bom, bgl mais sensual, muito bem produzido

So groovy, so beautiful

Just a solid, fun album front to back. Pulls a few insane guests (Andre 3000? Busta?). The TLC story is extremely sad, but the music is so fantastic. Favorite tracks: "Waterfalls", "Switch", "Diggin' On You"

This might be my favorite album we got yet. Pure 90s R&B goodness. No misses, just straight sexy vibes. S/O to TLC for being the only group to be able to cover a Prince song well. CAN WE GET SOME PRINCE PLEASE

Very cool. A masterclass in 90s production. Easy listening without falling into tired themes.

shockingly good, a really perfect distillation of the era. left eye is ofc great, and the production is perfect. i dont remember tlc being this horny but it vibes well honestly.

5 stars, no notes.

As the name says, certainly sexy and cool. It's not 100% my thing but it's certainly one of the best R&B albums I've heard, and Waterfalls is a chill classic. Favourite: Waterfalls

i love tlc they were my childhood

It is wild that in the years since a bunch of TLCs music has become a comedy punch line. I’m thinking of Michael Keatons character in The Other Guys, Bill Murray singing to Drew Barrymore during the SNL 25th anniversary show. I don’t think any of it was malicious, just part of the legacy. I haven’t heard Waterfalls in a long time and I think it’s one of the top songs of the 90s. I might even rank it #2 after Smells Like Teen Spirit. This album is so incredibly horny as well hahahah

Great record! Only hits on it

Eey real booty shaker!

Great R&B album, with a bit of hip hop, from the early 90s, contains a number of proper hit songs (Creep, Waterfall) but the rest of the material is very strong too. Clearly stands out from all the other R&B albums from that time.

Waterfalls is good enough to give this a 6/5

Perfect for the sunny sunday mornings with your partner

know it so well...

T-Boz, Left Eye and Chili demonstrate why they’re arguably the greatest girl group of the 90s. Covering subjects from unapologetic sexuality to bewilderment at the quickly-changing world of the new decade, it’s erotic, funny and brash all at once.

Top notch 90's ear candy. Yum!

Fun listen, good album.

Love it

Back in '94, I thought I was too cool for CrazySexyCool, no doubt making my way through the chaotic ruins of late-stage grunge. But damn this is a good album. Even though there are literally children today whose parents were conceived to this album, it still feels fresh. By mashing up pop, R&B, hip hop and edgy alt sounds, it is solidly the forebear of the hip alt R&B albums of the past decade.

Love TLC. 2nd favorite album behind "On the TLC Tip." Great album. God, they really love sex - xD Love it!

already heard it. one of my all time faves. very sexy and cool and a crazy good album

This is getting added to my playlist along side Lauryn Hill

Es de lo mejoooorr, realmente me encantó, es una obra de arte de principio a fin, simplemente no tiene un sólo skip y es perfecto, se siente muy actual a pesar de no ser reciente, lo recomiendo muchisimo.

Some of the best that 90s R&B has to offer

🚨 Top sexiest albums of all time

Loved this album! Brings back good memories!

One of my favorite albums of the ‘90’s

Listened to it like 3 times. Takes me back.

Let’s be honest, I’ve been chasing them waterfalls for a long while now. TLC will forever hold a special place in my heart

TLC for the win

Amazing

All of their best, some of the non-popular stuff isn't as great, but still a classic album.

The toilet interlude nearly made me deduct a point, but the rest of it is irresistible.

Finally, some women who aren't Joni Mitchell! R&B isn't a genre I gravitate towards but I enjoyed this. The three members sound great together and individually. There's a lot of filler but also a lot of personality. Catchy, naughty, vivacious fun.

I was skeptical about this album but MAN was I pleasantly surprised! I don’t think I would have appreciated it when it came out but it has aged well.

Still slaps

Still stand up 30 years later. Rarely a more apt album name

Looking at the writers on this album is insane

Great rnb

really enjoyable album if a little long

Impeccable vibes with a couple all time great tracks and too many interludes.

Creep dingue Kick your game dingueX10 Outro lourd des parties rap stylées RNB ClassicShit

Don’t be a Creep and give this album a listen. Can I Get a Witness??

Cheesy at parts between 3 and 4 but Def some bangers in there

I’ll round up to 4*

90s hip hop. Really smooth mix of r&b and hip hop.

If Tommy Wiseau would make a sequel to The Room he could use some of this music in the love making scenes.

I had no business listening to some of these songs in 5th grade.

Pretty decent R&B.

my loves highlights: creep, waterfalls

I mean.... this is R&B at it's finest. While I do think the album felt repetitive at times, it felt like a great piece to throw on in the background and groove to. Rating this a 3.5, feeling generous so I will round it up to a 4. Favorite tracks: Take Our Time Creep Case of the Fake People Waterfalls

A fun 90s time!

I liked it

While some albums on this list stand out because every one is different, others stand out because it's such a cohesive vibe. The trope inversion of having the men say sexy nothings into the mic while the actual women of the group sing the song is fantastic. I especially loved Red Light Special, Take Our Time, and (of course) Waterfalls.

4 stars for innovating music in their time. Waterfalls is beautifully performed and so pleasing.

Habia escuchado en alguna oportunidad a TLC, la verdad que tienen muy buena música, un disco de buen ritmo y buenas voces. Solo conozco Waterfall, muy buena canción!

Waterfalls r good. Interludes were insane

Soo good. Soo nostalgic

This was pretty crazy and sexy and cool.

Totally classic 90s r’n’b with some absolute stone cold hits. All the big name producers in evidence and the sound just takes you right there.

It was a lot of fun but also full of sex songs

Crazysexycool as the name says, hits all the marks! It's crazy sexy AND cool! The style of this album is so very 90s, from the lyrics to the production to the Busta Rhymes and Andre features! Each one of these girls have such unique and beautiful voices-- I just might have to look into more girl r&b groups bc the harmonies here were really the best part of this whole record. This one was very nostalgic to me despite it releasing before I was born, technically. Maybe it's the sound? It sounds warm and comforting... Highlights: Creep, Diggin' On You, Waterfalls, If I Was Your Girlfriend

pariu todos os girlgroups da coreia!!!!!! MÃES

This is definitely not what I was listening to in 1994 but it's certainly something I should have added to the mix.

Incroyable

That was a great snapshot of the car radio in the mid-late 90s. While some of these songs were pretty forgettable, I enjoyed the themes and the singles are incredible. 3.5/5 -> 4/5

Ese ya lo había escuchado, está buenardo

I could do without the interludes, but other than that, this was a very solid album you know big things happened with this music playing in the background. I’ll just leave it at that solid album, but I feel like the Interlude bring it down a little bit so I’m not gonna give it a five star solid four stars indeed.

I played this album so much back in the 90s. I definitely thought I was CrazySexyCool even though was a preteen. It holds up well. I almost have the whole rap from Waterfalls still memorized. lol

I was very surprised at how much I enjoyed this album. It's not perfect by any stretch, but it's well above average from start to finish. Hooks galore.

Sumthin’ wicked this way comes was a highlight for me. Enjoyed the album overall and may revisit some of TLC’s catalog in the future. Happy listening all!

Favorite Song: Waterfalls

Thought I'd get fed up but I kinda vibe with it

Get it girls!

Pretty good. Like the vibes.

loucasexylegal FAVS (top 3): kick your game, diggin on you, lets do it again mençoes honrosas: creep, red light special, waterfalls, if i was you girlfriend, take our time, switch, sumthin wicked this way como todo album de girlgroup daqui, MUITO BOM! um grande arraso e empoderamento, dei uma rachada no interlude sexy KKKKKKKKK oh mulheres bestas... mas mt bom! nota final: 4.5/5

The best from the house of LaFace.

Some pretty great R&B and lyrics to go along with it - production and mixing do sound noticeably dated at times

good, chill, but album, enjoyed all of the songs, the interludes also were interesting. 4

I didn’t like many TLC songs growing up. Listening to this album, though I realize that I was missing out on a number of good songs.

4 not 5

Oh boy, here we go, nostalgia. Very big record for me growing up. I remember its impact on music and society when this dropped and just how distinct it was, in addition to how crazy, sexy and cool it is. For today, it holds up pretty well. The songs I remember from it still resonate with me and it hasn’t lost its appeal. Not something I’d listen to regularly at this stage in my life, but it remains an important record that shaped where I am today. RIP Left Eye

It’s almost a 5, really great album, cohesive vibe, songs that are still popular.

Good R&B hiphop album. The singers are good and had a group of established songwriters and producers behind them.

I’m glad I got to listen to more of TLC ofc I know a few of these songs but the rest of this album was pretty good

Album #200. I was raised on country in the 90’s and I remember TLC were one of the first non-country artists I was exposed to. My nostalgia gives this a solid 4.

Since its opening day of baseball I’m going to use a metaphor that doesn’t fit this album at all. This album is like a good MLB pitcher with just one or two pitches. It does the R&B really well, it’s got its fastball. It’s even got a changeup with some of these rap features, but it’s just missing a 3rd or 4th pitch. It needs a curveball. Really good album, falls just shy of being a great one for me.

Waterfalls will live forever in grocery store playlists.

iconic, etwas einseitig

This album doesn’t kick in for until Red Light Special, but it gets pretty great for awhile there. Even outside of the Prince cover, his influence is all over this thing.

Le son d'une époque... J'ai l'impression d'avoir 7 ans et ouvrir la radio. Je sais pas si c'est crazy et cool, mais c'est définitivement sexy. Les tounes plus groovy sexy justement j'aime bien, Diggin' on you, Let's Do it again, take your time.

Sinon excellent r&b 90s!

Red light special is so soothing, and waterfalls a a classic. A blueprint for female groups at a time when boy bands dominated mainstream pop stations. They remind me of the Dixie Chicks for their impact on women in music.

Not expecting much here. Surprise, surprise! This is a great album. The only "song" I did not at all enjoy: Can I Get A Witness. That seemed like a throw-away. Otherwise, this album swayed, bopped, smoothed, just impressed throughout. Bravo. Not perfect by any means but based on my assumption that I'd hate most if not all of the songs. 4 bravo stars.

This is one of those moments where I have to take a step back and remember that the only reason why "Waterfalls" seems like such an obvious part of the cultural fabric to me at this point is because it's such a goddamn good song in the first place. And relistening to this album, it's even more remarkable how much it stands out in relief to the rest of the songs on this album, which are often so goddamn sexy in ways that I didn't remember. "Red Light Special" of course, but "Switch"? "Let's Do It Again"? That genderfuck cover of "If I Was Your Girlfriend"?? Goddamn wow. I think musically I still prefer the Y2K futurism of FanMail, but this remains a triumph on its own.

I never gave this a listen at the time because it was SO everywhere that I was sick of the radio hits. But listening to it now 30+ years later, man, there is so much great stuff on here in addition to the hits.

Sensual and slick

Is the best way to describe me!

I liked waterfalls and if i was your girlfrie nd

Beats Destiny’s Child. I still couldn’t tell you what exactly defines “New Jack Swing” R&B, but these three def had some catchy hooks and sweet but steely vocal harmonies

A bit weird but enjoyable

never crazy about all the interludes but TLC always makes smooth-ass r&b

Great to have an excuse to listen to this, as I've always loved hits like Waterfalls and No Scrubs. I'm pretty sure I've heard Fanmail in full, but never this earlier offering. What a gorgeous vibe. Warm and enticing, with some real tunes. The best kind of hip-hop, for me: "Peace in a groove on a Sunday afternoon," indeed, but with social realness and some spiky attitude. I did find it a tad long, due to the trad "interludes", but I really liked all the tracks. Lopes was a tragic loss, and any listen to this is tinged with some sadness; they went through a lot. PS were the Sugababes big fans of this or what? ❤️

This was good

Good solid album

very sexy, very cool (crazy)

Peak RnB

Well I didn't hate it. And this is probably the closest I'll get to liking a hip hop album. It kept me interested and never became background music.

TLC were massive in the pop charts, so I expected more of that here. However, this is a really well produced record with a lot of good beats and performances throughout. A surprisingly well-rounded album and worthy of a spot on the list. Horny AF, mind.

Top 3: 1. Sumthin' Wicked This Way Comes 2. Creep 3. Kick Your Game Least Favourite: Switch I really liked 'Sumthin' Wicked This Way Comes', the Andre intro and the chorus are amazing. The rest of the album is solid too, with some questionable rnb lyrics.

Very groovy, I normally hate RnB and rap but enjoyed this one

A calming soundtrack to the Oasis buying stress

Many unknown songs in this but I enjoyed the variety of influences. Red light special

Lot better than I expected. Some songs I recognized but not my favorite genre. Production and funky guitar impressed me and the ladies' vocals fit perfectly

Приятное, но не любимое Надо дослушать

TLC changed the game. Beautiful vocals, fantastic production, showing women can go just as hard as men and be just as sexual while staying smart. 3.5 album rounding up to 4 because they kept producing and speaking out.

Some R&B classics here, from a time when R&B was not annoying yet.

4 great tacks (creep, waterfall, the prince cover and the last track) and some solid R&B in between. Low 4/5

Despite knowing all the single, and this being a big hit, don;t think if I've ever heard the whole of this record before. The hits are UNDENIABLE, and most of the rest is really excellent, and the title is an apt description of the contents. A few forgettable bits, plus a couple of parts that feel a bit dated now, mean it's not quite a 5-star. Will definitely be coming back to this one.

never heard this before aside from maybe a couple popular tracks. rating will exclude interludes Intro-Lude - no rating Creep - 5/5 Kick Your Game - 4/5 Diggin' on You - 4/5 Case of the Fake People - 3/5 CrazySexyCool (Interlude) - no rating Red Light Special - 4/5 Waterfalls - 5/5 Intermission-Lude - no rating Let's Do It Again - 3/5 If I Was Your Girlfriend - 3/5 Sexy (Interlude) - no rating Take Our Time - 4/5 Can I Get a Witness (Interlude) - no rating Switch - 4/5 Sumthin' Wicked This Way Comes - 4/5 Average score: 3.9/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ initially, i was a little worried this would be another album that was horribly dated (it's like a 50/50 chance with this list so far in my listening journey). however, i was terribly mistaken it got that polished 90s rnb production while still managing to be timelessly enjoyed. and sure, it's pretty sensual and "horny" at times, but with just the right amount of class to not distract my overall enjoyment. i'm not even that mad at all these interludes either, which is super rare

I had forgotten how many singles came off this album. Mid 90s this album was everywhere.

Nice hip-hop + r&b album that sounds funky as hell. Better than the Destiny's Child album.

J'ai vraiment kiffé ! Je pourrais réécouter sans souci, vibe un peu R&B et tout c'était coooool

Having only previously heard No Scrubs, this album was really good. It’s such a vibe, and is a really fun album. My favorite tracks were Waterfalls and Diggin’ On You.

Going into this, I wasn't particularly excited: I don't particularly like No Scrubs, and this is nearly an hour long. But it turns out that this is pretty good. It's very much '90s R&B, with a cool hip hop/soul tilt. The beats are fun and funky and slick. And more importantly, Tionne Watkins, Lisa Lopes, and Rozonda Thomas have great vocal chemistry. They can sing, they can rap, and they are dynamic and fun to listen to throughout. I'd also like to say that ending with Sumthin' Wicked This Way Comes was a really cool choice. The vocal features throughout the album are few and, until this point, pretty much just spoken word/interlude things. So, when this track came up, I was *shocked* that (a very young) Andre 3000 is on it. It feels mean to say he probably has the best rap verse on the album, because he and TLC are kind of playing different ballgames (vocally), but he does. But even aside from this song, there are plenty of fun and memorable stand-outs here. I really enjoyed Creep, Kick Your Game, Red Light Special, Take Our Time, and the ultra hit Waterfalls. And I'd also like to shout out their extremely creative cover of Prince's If I Were Your Girlfriend, which they flip on its head in a really cool way. But honestly, I don't think any of the real songs on here are bad. The interludes are kind of a mixed bag on the other hand. But they're brief, infrequent, and usually entertaining enough. Like I said, I enjoyed this a lot more than I expected. The chemistry, consistency, and fun factor here are just undeniable.

Groundbreaking R&B record. Very good production and at least two amazingly catchy songs that are still sung today. Not usually my genre but this is a very very good record.

Really liked this one

It is indeed a cool album. Some really good R&B smattered with some really good classic hits. fav tracks: Waterfalls, Red Light Special, Creep

very nostalgic, and somewhat holds up in 2025. Actually it’s awesome after a second listen.

from a historical perspective its kind of revelatory to basically see the blueprint/torch that would be run with by destiny's child (and i think even fugees to a certain extent), its such a commanding statement that its easy to imagine that Everyone doing anything remotely similar just took immediate notice. often referred to as a "coming of age" album, i have no idea what the behind the scenes direction was like, but if the feeling that TLC themselves were the most authoritative forces behind the creative energy here is an illusion, its a HELL of an illusion...it just feels so bold, but somehow without overstepping itself...the way sex is talked about feels so grounded in lived-in emotional reality, and the delivery sells it even more. i dont think i ever felt like anything was contrived, which is kind of astounding. very cool production and tunes throughought as well...the singles are the obvious highlights, and are Quite a bit higher than everything else, but the other songs still hold together the total Statement as strongly as they need to

Smooth

Thought his would sound more dated but it still jams!! Liked it more than I thought!

CrazySexyCool established TLC as the preeminent female R&B group of the ’90s—and arguably one of the greatest of all time. “Creep” and “Waterfalls” retain their power and relevance three decades later, while nearly every track gives space for each member’s distinct personality to emerge. Alongside Salt-N-Pepa and En Vogue, TLC helped bring female R&B fully into the mainstream, reshaping expectations of what women in popular music could sing about and how they could say it, seamlessly blending social awareness with sensuality.

Very good

Cool indeed. Favorite track: Creep other picks: digging on you, waterfalls, i was your girlfriend

I can see why this was so iconic! Great vocals and harmonies, great vibes.

Också ett album där en låt är så bra (Waterfalls) så hela albumet blir bara overall bättre. Väldigt många interlude, inte alltid nödvändigt, men många väldigt svängiga låtar och nice vibes :)

I gotta admit I wasn't ready for the Sexy Interlude. Bring back albums with interludes! Don't listen to kids that say that interludes are unnecessary just because they're not used to it in these streaming music times where nobody listens to albums anymore.

ta weno

Album name checks out

That was a very good album, and the best from start to finish from that genre of R&B girl bands. Waterfalls is one of my favorite songs, but there were really no weak songs on this album.

TLC were *the* hip girl band in the 1990s - this album is the perfect balance of R'n'B, hip-hop, New Jack swing, pop and soul, with very nice production that doesn't sound dated at all (unlike so many other albums from that era). This album is smooth, and sexy but not overdone. They paved the path for so many other groups who followed. Waterfalls stands out and it's so catchy it often stucks in my head. I was into them in the late 90s and that time (especially No Scrubs) was as great as their mid 90-s stuff. Lisa Left eye's talent was special, may she rest in peace.

Ladies take a turn on sexy R&B from the 90’s

absolute classic with a few too many interludes. also why did one of them end with a twenty second poop joke.

Blast from the past! I listened to TLC in college, but never any of their whole albums. This will shake up my algorithm nicely!

one of the horniest albums ever. smash.

Got Waterfalls is such a banger. Few more of them and we’d have been in fiver territory. Simpsons: Yes

Really good vibes

Very funky and sensual album. This has a very strong flow and fun melodies throughout the whole album. TLC is said to be one of the best girl group albums of the ’90s, so I can definitely understand the influence. I wasn’t born yet to be the audience for it when it came out, so I don’t have any nostalgia attached to it but I really enjoyed it. I love the 90s R&B and hip-hop beats and grooves. The songs are smooth, soulful, and quite minimal, the blend of R&B, funk, hip hop, and a bit of soul is done very well. The production overall is very warm, silky, very groovy and punchy at the same time. Most songs revolve around sensuality, but the female rapping adds a nice touch to the album. There’s even a Prince cover and a feature from André 3000, which was a really cool. What stands out most to me though is their chemistry as a trio, every one of them bring a distinct voice and energy. Overall, I enjoyed this album, it’s laid back but not boring, fun yet emotional when it needs to be. If anything, the only downside for me is that it runs a bit long, 16 tracks is a lot for me. A few songs stood out. I already knew Waterfalls which is their main banger, apart from that I enjoyed Let's do it again, Creep, Kick your Game, Case of the Fake People, Red Light Special, If I was your Girlfriend and Sumthin' Wicked This Way Comes

Totally not my musical taste, but it's overall enjoyable start to finish, with Waterfalls obviously being a bona-fide classic. I feel it's very close to a 5, but to want to relisten to this I'd need a bit less filler.

8.5/10

Loved, great album

Classic

Oh lord, it’s my early teens coming back to haunt me! This album was so ubiquitous in the mid-90s that even a grunge-addled rural kid like me couldn’t avoid it. And guess what? It still, as the kids say, slaps.

Incredibly horny, Waterfalls is quite possibly the song I heard most in the '90s and I'm not mad at it. 4/5

This one is right up my alley as a big 90s hip hop fan. I loved the beats, and the rapping was excellent as well. Andre 3000 making an appearance at the end was a nice surprise as well. My main gripe is one that unfortunately plagues many rap records of this era, which is the skits. There were quite a few, and while funny on first listen, I think they will adversely affect my desire to listen through it in full again. Random sex noises in other songs were a distraction as well. Still, a killer album by one of the most iconic rap groups ever. I was glad to dig past the hits.

I liked it for the most part. It gets bumped up s a whole star as my wife sung me every song since she listened to it when she was younger.

- Happy to finally get an album by women - there needs to be many more on this list. - I didn’t have this album when I was growing up, but I knew Creep and Waterfalls. Really happy to hear the whole thing. The music is sexy, like everyone is saying; it is smooth and has nice melodies and harmonies. Lives up to it’s name.

Has a few cool songs 3.5

Much better than expected. Liked some of the deep cuts better than the hits.

I owe you an apology TLC, I wasn't really familiar with your game. Not that I was expecting this to be bad, but aside from liking No Scrubs (and mostly because its great for karaoke), I just was expecting to be ambivalent to this one. But there are some vibes/bops on this thing. Songs like Creep and Case of the Fake People. Obviously Waterfalls is a classic. Obviously there are tracks that I just am not into, such as Red Light Special. I think it was Todd in the Shadows in his review of Adina Howard's Freak Like Me (fantastic song, BTW. Break that out at karaoke too) where he said a lot of artists trying to be sexual felt like they were trying too hard and like it was work (which is the vibe I get from Red Light Special) whereas Freak Like Me sounds like Howard is having fun and being legitimately effortless about it. The interludes honestly could have been cut, especially Sexy - Interlude. I'm not going to hold them against the record in my rating, but if I were to, that one in particular would knock it down to a 3 by itself. Just horrid. Onto some more good though, I don't think they were directly or intentionally influenced by TLC, but honestly you can see the through-line from TLC to acts like Eminem and Kanye even. It's pretty impressive. But yeah, went into this expecting it to just be OK and I'd never touch it again, but found myself enjoying it quite a bit.

I wasn’t looking forward to listening to this album, it’s not my normal choice of genre. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. The album creates a mellow atmosphere that washes over the listener and leaves them feeling chilled and relaxed.

This is quite a bit hornier than I was expecting. And there's definitely some 90s production style going on in here, but I actually don't hate it for once. Which means, I'm either growing and developing as a 90s music listener, or this is actually a really good 90s album. I'm going with the latter. I'm really surprised at how much Waterfalls stands out in the album. I figured it would be the best song, but it fits really well in the context of the album, while also being kind of by far the best song on the album. It gets a low 4 from me, but hey, that's still a 4. Favorite Song(s): Kick Your Game, Waterfalls

Not that crazy, but did hit the sexy and cool. RIP Left Eye.

Even as someone who had moved away from R&B and Hip Hop when this came out, I still recognized how good the singles were. If nothing else, the theme and production values are strong--the vibes are great, even if the non-single songs themselves are a bit forgettable. Overall, it's more of a 3 for me, but bumping for importance.

R&B/Pop classic from the 90’s. What’s not like?

I thoroughly enjoyed this album, and it has absolutely NOTHING to do with my unhealthy teenage obsession with Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes.

Good that album that reminds you of the title every few minutes.

Needs more Left Eye. Very pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed this.

Prefect early to mid 90s R&B with rappy hooks, En Vogue, SWV, and even Salt & Pepa were massive and still didn't touch the rare air TLC were in when this came out. A soulful all girl trio who accentuate each other. Horny as all hell, as is their wont.

Siis hyvä mutta mitä ihmettä - Sexy-Interlude?? Yleisesti ottaen kivan menevä ja rento tunnelma. Interludet rytmitti albumia mielenkiintoisesti.

Creep and Waterfalls are major classics. I don't know how you can get tired of this kind of R&B. Not really feeling the interludes though.

This album is a whole vibe. I was instantly transported back to freshman year.

One of the best all-girl R&B albums I have ever heard. To be honest, there haven't been many, but I really liked this one. The hit song 'Waterfalls' was, in my opinion, one of the weaker songs. 4/5

CrazySexyCool – TLC (1994) | R&B / Hip-Hop Soul | Avg: 7.77 | Favorite Song: “Waterfalls” So with CrazySexyCool, what really struck me was how smooth and self-assured it feels, even thirty years later. The production is clean, warm, and consistently serves the group’s chemistry, which is probably the album’s biggest strength. “Waterfalls” was the clear standout for me; iconic for a reason. It’s not just catchy, it’s conceptually tight and emotionally grounded in a way that gives the whole record more weight. Most tracks fell within the 7 to 8.5 range for me, and that consistency speaks to how well the group managed to blend sensuality, confidence, and vulnerability throughout the project. From a reviewer’s standpoint, I think this album nails what a mainstream R&B record should be: accessible without being shallow, polished without losing its edge. Even the moments I didn’t score weren’t duds—they just felt more transitional or interlude-like. There’s a clarity of identity here that’s hard not to admire. TLC knew precisely what kind of album they were making, and they pulled it off with an effortless cool that’s still hard to replicate.

As great as I remember when I first bought it on CD

It doesn't deserve the rating I'm going to give it, but this album was so massive and still occupies a place in my brain that I gotta round up. 10 year old Eric jamming out to and totally understanding the meaning behind Creep, Waterfalls, and Red Light Special. Good stuff. My first time listening to the album all the way through and it's just ok outside of those songs. I did also enjoy Diggin' on You. Sexy (Interlude) is an all-time WTF did I just listen to. Lol. 3.25/5

Good collection of songs, but I was glad that it ended. It's one of those weird albums where I feel it misses something.

A few songs sound dated but otherwise I was pleasantly surprised! I remember a couple from my youth too so it was a good listen.

Great back-to-back listen with Prince’s Purple Rain.

Quite impressive for 1994. Has the neo-soul sound of much later. But in places also has that late 80s/early 90s hip hop sound. Some funk elements in there too. Best track - Creep, Sumthin Wicked This Way Comes Gonna say 4 stars as it's still a refreshing sound and would have been moreso when released

I didn’t appreciate this music when I was a kid but it’s actually pretty fun.

Canonically horny.

Absolutely iconic

Feeling grateful that we all have to lower our music critic shields occasionally to let these through - another example was Meat Loaf From Neil Diamond to Petey Pablo, we've all heard our fair share of DIRTY songs from a dude's point of view. The confident lady trio concept here is/was different and really turns the tables. This is the earliest example of that idea that I know of And on top of that, these songs aren't corny like the Backstreet Boys or Nsync were. Its a serious mix of baby making music and R&B worth sticking around for (and I mean that) The hits gave me goosebumps (Waterfalls - damn those horns). Sexy (Interlude) had me laughing out loud on my bike ride to work (that rug pull was FUCKING hilarious). There are 2 or 3 other deep cuts worth going back to and only a few skips (falls off a bit at the end). Music aside, these ladies have some extraordinary libidos. Great work

The sounds of these 90s albums is just something different man. Nostalgia maybe I don’t know, but it slaps.

One of the sexiest albums I've ever listened to.

Had only heard the singles and loved listening to the whole album. Last song is 🔥 and some great moments.

Great album for driving around on a summer Sunday. This is about as early as my memory of contemporary pop music gets, kids singing Waterfalls on the playground.

Creep is obviously the standout but so much of this is good groovy sexy summer music

fun 4/5

I'm not really a huge listener of R&B music, and even though this album is a bit dated in a few areas, it's fucking great. I loved it. I listened to it at least 5 times over the course of a few days, I can't believe I never sat down and listened to it. Very good sounding music. RIP Left. 4.5/5

9/10 -> 4/5 Me siento crazy, sexy y cool.

Nunca había oído hablar d este álbum y la vdd es q me sorprendió para bien. Todas las canciones me parecieron bastante buenas y me encantó la vibra en general del álbum.

Horniest album so far on this list. It feels like admitting to a guilty pleasure... But I enjoyed it surprisingly much. Great songwriting, with just enough diversity to keep it different and interesting. Groovy. Nice chords. And then again, also incredibly corny and too "90's" sometimes... Whatever, I enjoyed it more than I expected

Honestly, not really my kind of sound. It was better than your average album (hence the rating), but it just didn't click for me.

This morning I went out for a drive I listened to TLC. RnB is not my thing, but to be fair, the vocals were really good. Great instrumental arrangements, good balance on drums and percussion. It doesn’t get tiring. 4

Forget what real R&b sounds like

Good r&b, had some truly classic interludes, nothing crazy special but I enjoyed it as an r&b album

é uma energia muito urbana, um ritmo e uma lírica que se perdeu no tempo e se imortalizou pois ninguém fez nada igual. Não é a toa ter feito o sucesso que que fez. As vozes se mesclam e se sobressaem. Menção honrosa para Creep, Kick your Game, Red light special e Let's do your again Rest in Power Left Eye💕

Overall solid album, good rhythms, pretty steamy at times. Was “Sexy (interlude)” the mirror version of Dre’s “Deeez Nuuuts”?

Once again a record I put off for ages and turned out to be qualla. Maybe one of the best RNB records? Could do without the track where she has a big shit though, especially with Paedodiddy in the background.

I thought I would be familiar with more of this album than I was. I think I was just a little too young to have gotten into it when it came out, so really only knew the hits. Enjoyed the rest!

I’d probably give it 3.5. But I thoroughly enjoyed listening to it

As advertised.

This album was a nice surprise. Despite being a huge fan of A Tribe Called Quest and Outkast, I had never heard the opening and closing tracks with the verses from Phife Dawg and André 3000. It is a bit dated, but really nice early 90s vibe.

Crazy sexy and cool all at once

Crazysexycool is a pretty darn good album if i say so myself. This is a group i only ever knew for their really big single, that being Waterfalls, but the rest of this album is a pretty fun bop as well. The instrumentals were easily my favorite part of the album with some great compositions, super funky beats and some cool guitar sections as well. The lyrics also flowed really well and definitely helped the album keep it's pace which the vocals also do help with. I guess if i had one issue, it would be the intermission tracks as they are just way too weird for their own good especially Sexy-interlude, now that was mood whiplash if i had ever seen it. This is still a really good album and a fun listen. Best Song: If I Was Your Girlfriend Worst Song: Sexy-interlude

i loveeee TLC, this is my favorite one of their albums. i think that every song on it has great purpose, especially the placements of the interludes. im obsessed with how this album opens with the song: intro-lude. however, my favorite song is "kick your game", or "creep", OR "intro-lude". ugh this album was so so good i love it. also- ofc it is good because babyface produced it

Something a bit different, finally! I'm sure I subconsciously heard this album often when I was younger, since I'm sure my sisters played it a lot, and of course the very popular singles you would hear everywhere for years. I've definitely come to really appreciate and enjoy the 90s r&b sound, and I think I've probably even listened to this album once or twice on my own in my adult years given its significance. Now that I'm a big Prince fan, I realize that "If I Was Your Girlfriend" is actually a Prince cover, which is pretty sweet! Great song. "Creep" is an ear worm that I've definitely enjoyed hearing over the years, and of course "Waterfalls" is a classic. And now I realize that it was strongly influenced by a Paul McCartney song on his II album, pretty neat! While I don't seek out this style of music all that often, I will never complain when it's on. So much more interesting to my ears than most pop/r&b type stuff on the radio these days; as the years go on looking back on the 90's gets better and better, especially in comparison to today! It's refreshing to hear music of this style not entirely overproduced and over-processed.

Only rounding down because so many interludes, this would be a 5 without those. TLC was actually so crazysexycool

Honestly never listened to the album before. Sure, that Waterfalls video was played a million times on MTV, but I really liked the 90’s, horny chick, r&b vibe the rest of the album had. Maybe Andre Rison had that shit coming. Red Light Special, Diggin On You, and Sumthin Wicked This Way Comes were my favorites. 4.5 ⭐️

As someone who likes things that are sexy and cool, I was able to overlook the crazy. Except for the toilet-flushing “prank call” track, which almost spoiled the mood beyond the point that even “Waterfalls” couldn’t save it. Almost.

I liked this album quite a bit. If I'm in the mood for something a little frisky and Marvin's not tickling my fancy for some reason, Crazysexycool might be just the ticket.

Love TLC! I actually own this one so I listened to my own copy, which was fun. I laughed a lot seeing someone say that this was probably the "horniest" record on this list, and you know what? Who am I to argue? ha. I thought this was all I was going to write about this record, but I actually had more to say than I would have figured for an album that I own. TLC singing "Waterfalls" here and singing about the AIDS epidemic (without being super explicit that's what they're singing about), was really important at the time. There was even more stigma of having an AIDS diagnosis back in 1994 when this came out and coupled with their safe sex advocacy (left eye's condom, anyone?) is very impressive for the time. Additionally, and I could be really wrong about this but I think that it was great for them to sing about female sexuality explicitly and sort of had them being before their time. Even Madonna had not been this explicit. Also, I'm still sad about Left Eye.

Really solid album. TLC was getting radio play when I was a little kid, but I can't say I appreciated it much at the time based on my age and interests. I enjoyed this one and thought it was good all the way through. I would say it felt a little dated in some ways; it's hard to describe, but it's almost like you can hear the 90s in the music. I didn't hate that, though. Overall: 3.6/5

Great album start to finish. There's definitely a time and place aspect to this album. They were so ahead of their time and so many groups copied what they did afterwards. Enjoyable and re-playable.

Buttery smooth R&B, wonderfully seductive, and catchy. This shit was fire. Top 3 Favorites: Diggin' On You, Waterfalls, and Creep No bad songs 4.25-4.50/5

Classic

Smoother than I expected. They excuse 90s cool. I wonder why they faded away. (I know one of them died, but I thought was way beyond their success)
