1001 Albums Summary

Relaxing with some nice bass lines. Great build up to the finale of blue rondo. As soon as the song “take five” came on I knew it straight away. Such a classic piece. I could see myself listening to something like this in a whiskey bar with a cigar. Feels more like background music. Overall the album drowned into the background and became mostly forgettable. Take five being the only track to remain in my memory. Overall, not a bad album but nothing great. I’d give it a 3/5 thanks to take five.

Some nice folky melodies going on. Quite psychedelic in areas with some good backing vocals. Nice blues kicks reminiscent of pink floyd In some areas for me personally. However, most of the songs were just ok. Decent album but was neither here or there for me.

Just hearing the opening beat of speak to me, wow, it pumps through me like a beating heart. The intricacy of the different sounds leading into breathe. Such a combination. THAT guitar slide in breathe. Amazing. The vocals - RUN, RABBIT RUN. Catchy lyrics. I love the sound of the clocks when Time begins. It always scare the hell out of me. Then the drums leading into the verse. The guitar work. The backing vocals make my hair stand on end. THAT SOLO. The piano piece in the great gig in the sky is heavenly. The build up makes me feel like im floating up to the sky. AND THEN, those vocals!!!! LIFT OFF. WAAAAAAAA WAAAA WAA WAAAAAAA. Amazing. Beautiful. Money - DAT BASS LINE. Great lyrics, such a catchy tune. DOO GOODY GOOD BULLSHIT. The Wah, the trumpet. Damn near perfect song possibly. Eclipse is such a epic finale. It feels like its been a huge build up to a massive battle and the end is near. I cant believe this was album number 3 out of 1001. It all feels downhill from here now.... DSOTM was never my favourite pink floyd album, but man, that has put a huge smile on my face. DSOTM is a perfect 5/5 album for me. Absolute classic. Bravo.

Lovely funk opening track with shining star. Very upbeat. Some good bass in "happy feelin". Listening to the lyrics, its all about love and the good things in the world. Very positive vibes all round. Some of the tracks could be in a 70's cop show for sure. Overall, nice funky sound but mostly forgettable tracks to me after a first listen. I wanted to like this only a single track clicked with me - shining star. Rating 2/5

Super chilled first song - la femme d'argent. Nice electronic sounds with a funky bass line. DAMN, as soon as sexy boy came on, i knew it. Absolute belter. i love the melody and keyboard work. The distortion, awesome. I have no idea what the lyrics are but they are very soothing and fitting for the song. Wow, straight into another banger with the track "all i need". love it. What a opening three songs to the album. FAAAARRRRKKKKK, kelly watch the stars, i know you too!! Again, a very bass driven track with some great keyboard work. A very good start to this album i feel. 2nd half of the album was a different beast. More chilled. Really good album. I enjoyed the first half particularly. Rating 4/5.

Nina has a wonderful deep voice. However, none of the songs really caught my attention on the first listen. Maybe Jazz isnt my thing. Ive never been the biggest jazz fan. The whole album kind of passed me by. A couple of tracks reminded me of amy winehouse. Quite a similar tone vocally in some aspects. Am i being harsh? Maybe. I recognised lilac wine from a jeff buckley cover straight away. The JB version of lilac wine is awesome, so i knew i had to give it another shot.I'll come back to it tomorrow. I came back for a second listen. Its definitely a grower for me. Nina, what a beautiful voice. Able to carry the entire album on its own practically. Lyrics are rather beautiful in several songs with lilac wine still being my favourite. I would give this album a 3.5 if i could with the view to giving it a 4 as it grows on me. I can see myself coming back to this in the near future and branching out into a few more of her albums. After all thats what the list is for! exploration and opening new doors! Admittedly, this is my first nina album. I had a quick check on her profile and immediately recognised more of her stuff. Wow, i cant wait to branch out into other tracks! Quite a funky bassline on the first few tracks. Same with the drums so i can see where the jazz references come from. Lyrically, hip hop and the like usually has quite meaningful words. But other than that it seems just a very average album from a first listen to me. Repetitive samples used throughout. None of them are particularly stand out either. although i do like the jazz feel on a few tracks. It wasnt a bad album but i struggle to see how this is a classic on a first listen. Maybe its more in the lyrics and commentary of the time. Because i thought it was an OK, and im unable to remember or think of a single stand out track, id give it a 2/5 based on a first listen. I know this album is well thought of so i will probably come back and give it another listen.

Good Album, i love how the album has a great mix of instruments. Driving bass lines, good piano, with a rock solo/rhythm led guitar. Good vocal range. Even the slow down of pace into soldiers poem was nice. The acoustic guitar picking was good, with harmonic backing vocals gave a slight sense of a queen track. I enjoy how the album has quite a fast pace to it. Makes me want to get up and rock it. the album starts and finishes strongly but does drop a level in the middle. rating 4/5.

My first ever listen to this album. Super intrigued by the album cover. Its brilliant tbh. Its an album cover you'll never forget. Wow, 21C schizoid man goes absolutely bonkers half way through. Cracking way to open the album. Great tune. An absolute banger to be precise. I really enjoyed how mellow "talk to the wind" went. That solo was beautiful. Could have listened to it for another 5 mins. Absolutely nailed the flute work. Epitah. Some real nice acoustic and slide guitar. Quite a euphoric track. I love how much the drum beats vary throughout the songs. Very different styles. Moon child really goes out there. I enjoy the start then it goes into a total mind fuck. Very experimental. Its like a bunch of mates tripping on LSD whilst having a little jam session not giving AF who listens. Court with the crimson king is a cracker. Its wild when it slows down and blasts out tones which remind me of the mario bro's on the NES. Its genuinely hard to believe this is a first album. I think it would be a near perfect album if it wasnt for the lull in moonchild. Nevertheless, excellent album. I'd give it a 4.5 but i cant. So it will have to be a 4/5. Not quite a full 5 for me because of moon child. Great stuff though. Definitely an album ill come back to.

Victoria, great tune. Nice rhythm and melody to the song. Theres some good lyrics. Lots of social commentary from the time. Lots of meaning behind each song. I listen to the lyrics of Australia and they are still very apparent today. i connected with those lyrics on a personal level. Shangri-La was a good tune. I like how it transitioned between different melodies. Some good guitar licks dashed throughout the songs. I enjoyed the change of pace in "Mr churchill" and "she bought a hat like princess marina." Overall a couple of good tunes. Lots of meaning behind the lyrics but only the one stand out tune for me - victoria. A good 3/5.

Great voice. No doubt about it. But this album aint my cup of tea. I found the album quite gloomy and boring. I guess jazz is really just hit and miss for me. Rating - 2/5

beautiful voice. I could see myself in a bar with a big fat cigar chillin to it. im not sure im in the right frame at home listening to jazz. no track really stood out but you can tell the band and sarah ooze quality. overall, its an ok album for me. 3/5.

roadhouse blues. Absolutely cracking song. Great way to open the album. Some great piano in You make me real. Could imagine the bar in full swing with a guy playing the piano to this. Absolutely rocking. Peace frog. Love the bass line and boards on this one. Great solo. Absolute tune. Good first side/half to the album. Drops in the middle and finishes off well with Maggie M'Gill. Overall, a good album i say with a few standout tracks. Rating 4/5.

Great opening song with "changes". Absolute classic. Pretty things is very beatle-esque to me. Good track. Heavily piano driven which i like with a catchy chorus. Life on mars? need i say. What a belter. Makes you want to get out of your chair and sing from the rooftops. Plus it always reminds me of the BBC TV show. Overall a solid album with a few 5/5 tracks. Rating 4/5.

Not a bad album. I quite liked the funk vibe at first. But its all blends into one. I do tend to find most s. american music very samey though. Their music seems to follow a repetitive pattern for me. Its almost like they sample some music and just put it on repeat for 4 mins. Some good guitar funk and licks going on at times. No particular stand out tracks to me though on a first listen. Some of it reminds me of that brazilian football tune " o bar, obar obar". Still not enough to save the rating for the album tho. Wow, so many 5/5 ratings for this album. Honestly, they must have been smoking crack. Maybe thats the secret to enjoying it. Rating 2/5.

Maybe im not built for hip hop. Maybe you need to be there or something. Do i need to be a gangbanger? It just doesnt do anything for me. Rating 1/5.

"Here we go" i thought, another fucking album which samples shit to hell and back. Just what i need after a few mediocre hip hop albums. Im not sure what it is, but sampling should be outlawed for many artists. Im not normally one for dance music albums either unless they are compilations. But this really hit the spot. Right here, right now. Absolute banger. Rockafeller skank, banger. Gangster tripping, banger. Praise you, absolute banger. Plenty of bangers on this album. The album starts really well, very strong and gets weaker as you go until you hit praise you. build it up, tear it down also good. Lots of stand out tracks. The samples are actually fun, catchy and make you wanna rock it a bit. Even if you didnt know who fatboy slim was, you will have heard many of these songs. Which i think is a testament to the quality. These songs have been used on adverts, TV, films, you name it. Theres at least 4 very strong singles on this album. Probably 5 imo with build it up, tear it down. The sampling on this is great. Very catchy lyrics throughout the main songs. The front cover is pretty iconic too. Overall, a very good album for me. Rating - 4/5

Based on a first pass i thought this album was a very average listen. Probably below average for me. A 2/5. I used to enjoy some of the white stripes stuff so thought i'd try again. It could be a grower. And it was. I appreciate Jack went a different way to his white stripe days. His voice is good. The keyboard solo in missing pieces was solid. I liked it. The influence of the white stripes returned in sixteen saltines. Decent track though. Freedom at 21 is probably one of the standard out tracks. Quite a catchy but basic guitar lead song. Love interruption is the stand out track on the album. The male/female vocals work very well as well as the melody. Personally i really liked weep themselves to sleep. Some great piano and vocals on the track. Shakin makes me wanna get up an erm, shake it. Is that a bit new york drawl in nerrrrvvvoousss? Overall, a solid album. I would not say it belongs on this list but i guess thats a different story. I would probably say that about hip hop! but thats a personal thing. The album Definitely requires a second (or more) listen. I enjoyed the different styles jack brought together for the album. It was a nice change of pace because its the first time ive listened to his solo stuff outside of TWS. Rating - i'd probably give this a 3.5 if i could. It doesnt reach the heights of a 4 for me. But alas, i cant so a 3/5 it will be.

Street life - a well known song. Nice opening Sax. Great female vocalist. Nice bass line. Great song. nice way to open the album. My lady - some decent sax, bass and wah pedal. SHame theres no vocals. Rodeo drive - some very nice lead guitar in this track. The rest of the album is pretty good jazz. Each song has some strong pieces whether its the sax, bass, lead guitar, you name it. However, its music that blends into the background for me. I would prefer more vocals if im honest. Rating 3/5.

Pretty Meh for me. Could easily pass me by as background music in a bar. I get what he is trying to achieve. But wasnt my thing.

Stand out tracks - Enjoyed boogie on woman. Nice piano and harmonica. You aint done nothing and they wont go when i go.

Pretty forgetful album. Another jazz album which blends into the background. Its nice music. Highly skilled musicians but it just doesnt catch my attention. Not a single track made me want to play it again. It reminds me of the hotel band in one of those fancy places. Good to relax to though. I'd give it a 2.5 if i could. I cant so a low 3 it is.

Good start with show girl and bailed out. But then the album went down from there. Shame really, i love brit pop, but this album was very plain and below average as it went on. Shame really. Maybe ill come back to it. But for now its a 2/5.

Airbag is a great intro. Love the distorted guitar. The drum beat is awesome. Paranoid android. Great song. I love the build up, then it just slows right down. God loves his children, yeaahhhhh. Then back up it comes before an epic finale. 6+ mins is not easy to pull off but this track does it so well. Karma police? need i say more. Banging track. Has traces of the bends in it with a merging towards the next installment of radiohead. Personally, i loved climbing up the walls. The vocals, the beat, the build up. Very dark, atmospheric. The scream at the end. No surprises. Great Melody. Very catchy. Almost like a nursery rhythm. Its something you play to a child lying in their cot trying to sleep. Lucky is a stand out track on the album. For some reason, i close my eyes and imagine being shot into outer space, flying through the galaxy, when i hear that lead guitar kick in. Amazing outro to this song. Overall, this album has aged so well. Its been years since ive heard it. Every track sounds fresh as the first time i listened to it. The lyrics on this album are immense. Ive always been torn with OK computer. Yes its a great album. Is this the best ever like many say? For me its not, but its definitely up there with the best. Iconic album. So many great tracks. Fantastic layering and engineering. Rating 5/5.

First steely dan album ever. Ricky dont lose that number was decent. The rest absolutely forgettable. Rating 2/5. Slightly below average for me.

Im not a hip hop/rap fan but remember this coming out as a kid. Unbelievable to think this was 20+ years ago. Several iconic tracks on this album. Even though it was quite long even the filler songs were decent. I still dont get these skits that they do. Good beats, lyrics and a few banging tunes. Overall id give it a low 4/5 with it having 3-4 massive songs on there.

Manish boy, what an absolutely banging tune. Theres such energy in this album. The music is great. Very upbeat. Every instrument is sprinkled with gold. the quality if THAT good. I could imagine sitting in a bar, watching these guys in the corner, slamming back a few old fashioned. Crosseyed cat, that piano! Quality tune. The guitar solo. belter. I have to say i really enjoyed this on a first listen. Its an album ill come back to for sure. Has an almost live feel to the recording which i like. Bravo to the person with the harmonica. Quality. Rating a high 4/5. The blues shits all over jazz.

The first half of CD1 (side1) is great stuff. Theres a fantastic run of songs on this side. All the way to goodbye blue skies. The 2nd half of CD1 (side 2) drops in quality. Im sure it adds to the story of the album. However, i feel its not necessary from a musical perspective. The tracks are average. It brings down the quality of the album overall very slightly id say. CD2 picks it up in terms of quality again with the fantastic hey you, comfortably numb and run like hell. A few amazing tracks right there. Comfortably numb is one of the best tracks of all time in my opinion. Great music and lyrics. Gilmours singing. Amazing. That solo. Got to be one of the most amazing pieces ever. It makes my hairs stand on edge every time i hear it! I'd give this a low 5/5 rating. Its a fantastic album. I just think the length isnt for everyone. Its not the best PF album imo but one of them. You could probably remove Side 2 completely and the last few tracks of Side 4 (cd2). If you were to cut the length of this album down 20-30 mins it would be a perfect 10/10 for me. Nevertheless, its still a cracker.

The only PS ive heard previously was screamadelica. And i really enjoyed it. So when this popped up i thought, great, this could be a good one. Sadly, i was wrong. What the fuck did i just listen too. Someone was definitely on acid or something when they wrote this. I cant think of any other way you'd enjoy it.

Great opener with speed king. Includes the classic "child in time". what a tune, the whole thing is like a stage play. The guitar solo is excellent. the vocals. I love how the song transitions through at different speeds. Slow build ups, fast drum beats, great guitar, that organ. Up and down she goes. Not many songs can pull off 10 minutes but this bad boy can. Shuv it up ya! Theres an incredibly amount of pace to flight of the rat. It makes you take note and listen. The use of the wah. Then that drum solo at the end. Cracking. The whole pace and quality of the musicians is excellent throughout the album. For a first listen i very much enjoyed it. I'll be coming back for another listen.

I remember when this came out. Went to see the guys on the tour and it cost me about 20 quid. Unreal compared to todays prices. I always put coldplay in the lovey dovey basket but i forget how good the early coldplay stuff was before they went all pop. This was a great album. Politik all the way through to clocks is great stuff. Plenty of great harmony, vocals and piano. Very good catchy tunes. The album finishes strongly on rush of blood and amsterdam. Smokin! I'd give it a low 5/5.

First listen to any springsteen album. Ever. Period. I have been looking forward to seeing what the boss is about. Ive heard singles, but never full albums. This is your time to shine springsteen. Parts of "nebraska" sounds a bit like surfin USA by the beach boys to me. Just a slowed down version of the melody. More harmonica. Other than that it was a sombre experience. Maybe it will relate to the folks with roots close to the lyrics but i couldnt relate to it. The music was OK but nothing really stuck out and wow'd me. The quality of the recording is also relatively poor. I get where that came from based on the wiki but still. Overall, it wasnt awful but wasnt good. I like acoustic sessions too. I'd say below average for a first listen. Maybe its something you have to come back when you get into springsteen. But im honestly disappointed by the boss.

this is the day is a good tune. uncertain smile. another good tune. great piano piece in this song. Apart from that the rest were bang average. A low 3/5 rating for me. The two good tunes just say brought it up from 2/5. its albums like this i wish we used a range out of 10.

First Nick drake album. Great voice. Suits his style of music well. I like the finger picking style of his playing. Not a bad album. I feel pretty neutral about this one. Didnt love it. Didnt hate it. Could be a grower. So I came back to this album whilst in the kitchen. Nicks style Of music is consistent but it’s definitely a grower. I ended up enjoying the album. Even the missus complimented it!

I quite liked the vocals on "international feel". Some of the music was a bit all over mind you. Honestly, it stopped right there. what the fuck was the next 4-5 songs. Mindless shit from a bloke off his face. Absolutely unbelievable drivel. Finally, zen archer. An attempt at a song rather than jamming off your face. Wasnt too bad. Just got further in and thought this isnt too bad. Then realised its international feel again. The first track i semi liked on the album. Sometimes i dont know what to feel. Thank god, another attempt at a proper song. Not bad. Just hit the long arse 10 minute medley. Quite surprised. Wasnt expecting it. Quite good actually. Some good vocals and melody. This album is a real mind bender. Some decent tracks ruined by several other experimental.

Good opening track with age of the understatement. Other than that it sounded to arctic monkeys to me. Just without their banging tunes. An ok album overall.

whats going on - an absolute classic. i love everything about this song. great bass, great lyrics, great harmonies. A real stand out on the album, no doubt. Theres a lot of heart and emotion in this album. You can feel the influence from the war and social issues coming through the lyrics. Overall theres some very nice soulful tunes on this album. However, only one stand out track for me, which means i cant give it a 5.

Not my thang.

Honestly, listening to this album makes me realise why i really dislike listening to dance albums from a single artist. This is not my kind of thing at all. None of the songs really gripped me at all. for a full 55 mins i thought i was in a shit bar listening to very average dance music. Then Halcyon and on and on came on. I know the song. Its one of the greatest dance songs ever imo. I absolutely love it. It was the shining light on a very dull album for me. An absolute belter. It dragged this sorry mess from a 1 to 2/5 as a result. The track as a standalone is a clear 5/5 in the genre though.

Huge influence of the acoustic guitar in this album. I do love rod's voice. There is something about it which is great. It really comes out on amazing grace. Maggie may is an absolute classic. Such a great song. THE standout track on the album. Others include im losing you and amazing grace. Overall, just an OK album for me.

I was looking forward to this album when it popped up. I remember when they released their singles from this album. Sadly, it didnt live up to the hype. There goes the fear, pounding and caught by the river are tremendous but the rest of the album was forgettable.

Way too long for my tastes. Could be 30-40 mins with 10 songs easily. It would be a lot more bearable. Most of the songs were background levels. Three very good tracks on here though - Rendezvous, red alert and bingo bango.

Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band is a great opener. followed by the fabulous A little help from my friends. if you cant sing a long to this song then you are missing out. big style. Then lucy. oh lucy in the sky of diamonds. A great mind fuck of a song. I love it. Getting better. always reminds me of the times ive seen McCartney live. Very fond memories. I love the indian influence in this track. ah Mr Kite. we meet again. Reminds me of the showground. A psychedelic trip to the showground! Within you without you - a very interesting song with a tonne of indian influence. A huge diversion in the sound of the album but actually fits well with all the different influences they have in this record. A day in the life. What a beautiful beautiful track. What a way to finish the album. Now Sgt Peppers isnt my fave beatles album, but i have to say its an absolute cracker.

A distinctively forgettable American indie album.

Promising start with dominion. Went down from there. Thankfully “this corrosion”, picked it back up. Other than that the rest of the album did not strike a chord with me.

Tremendous opening with jump. Followed swiftly by the great panama. Some impressive guitar solos and riffs in drop dead legs. Hot for teacher, an absolute banger. Great song. Love the opening riff and fast drum beat. The rest were hear nor there for me. Overall a pretty good album. I'd probably say a 3.5. I think a 3 is too low so ill have to give a 4.

Decent album. Some interesting sounds and different styles used throughout. Some good lyrics too. but i still dont get the whole rap gangbanger thing - THIS DICK AINT FREE. I'll have to come back to this one. And thats something i cant say about many rap albums...

Two weeks was the best song on the album. Rest seemed forgettable to me.

This is my first full iggy album. Its not what i was expecting. You can tell it has bowie written all over this. Which is not necessarily a bad thing, just not the style i associate iggy with. I enjoyed sister midnight. Nightclubbing was a standout. China girl was good too. Overall a pretty good album. I think its a grower, not a shower. Will take a few more listens for me to really appreciate it.

Enjoy the wah and licks during "up from the skies". Spanish castle definitely has more of a rock undertone to it. Its a cracker tune. Little wing. Absolute belter. 5/5 song. I wish it was double the length but its pretty damn perfect as it is. Castles made of sand <3 Some real good songs on this album. But theres also several average ones too. The musical abilities of the band is unquestioned though.

Wow, i havent heard the song ray of light in yonks. Quite good still even though it isnt peak madonna. couple of other good tunes like frozen, power of goodbye and nothing else matter. Remaining tunes are quite downbeat. Almost like zero7 vibes. You can really feel the electro vibe from william orbit. I much prefer early madonna if im honest. However, i do appreciate she tried a different direction. Couple of good tunes but overall this album is just way too long. If this was cut down to 30-40 mins it would be much better. Not bad overall. Low 3 from me.

Never heard of this band before. And i wish that remained the same to this day. The opening song started off promising but once it got into gang bang it went down hill from there. By "Next" it felt like i was listening to some kind of play. Whoever put this on the list should be bitch slapped.

Smack my bitch up, firestarter and breath are absolutely great tracks in the genre. The rest of the album was decent. Will probably give it another listen and come back round to it. Mindfields i enjoyed. I think i would have said this was a solid 3 or high 3. But ive heard some very crap or average albums on the list recently. It makes me think the 3 classics pull this album up to a low 4 in comparison to what ive had.

Standout tracks - sending me an angel, girl wants to be with the girls, im not in love and take me to the river. First listen was a bit hit and miss. It all blends into one and sounds very similar. A few more listens really started to open the album up. Very low 4 for me.

Paperhouse was a decent track to start with. I enjoyed it. The only problem i had was with the vocal levels. It felt like i could hardly hear the vocals. You whacked the volume up and the music would be too loud. Felt like the mixing was a bit off on the track as a result. The following tracks - mushroom and oh yeah were OK too. Then it kind of went off the boil after halleluwah. Aumgn was atrocious and unnecessary. It was offensive to my ears. A complete waste of time infact. Every single track on the album after that was the same. I would have kept tracks 1-4 and dumped the rest. It should just stop right there. I may just delete tracks 5-7 and pretend they never existed. I see people here saying its ahead of its time etc. But that doesnt mean its good. This kind of stuff could easily be released as a demo or B-sides album. A decent album was ruined in my opinion.

Immigrant song - absolute cracker. Undoubtedly the album starts off with its best song. The riff and drive of the song is brilliant. Everyone has heard it. This is what people think when they think zeppelin. Friends, celebration days and since ive been loving you are belters as well. Since ive been loving you is another top tune. 7 minutes of really good stuff. The finger picking in Gallows pole reminds me of a old folksong type tune. Tangerine. Its a real grower. I like it. Theres a good mix of electric driven songs and acoustics/strings. More towards the latter id say. Not something most people would think of when they think zeppelin. This album is a grower. I listened to it a few times. Loved it in the end.

Quite a raw album. Not on the same punk level as the pistols or clash mind you. Some decent rhythms though. I can see how some british bands of the noughties like franz ferdinand, futureheads etc could be inspired by something like this. Damaged goods is absolute tune. Great song. Couple of other decent ones like naturals not in it and not great man. Overall, one great song and the rest of the album was OK or not great. I can definitely feel the inspiration in bands i grew up with as a late teenager.

This was a hard album to track down. In the end i listened to it on YT. Not a bad album. Quite smooth sailing with some funky tunes. Was alright man. but then, WOW. am i glad i stuck it out to the end. Maggot brain (was the live 10 min version) was the shit! Helluva song. That guitar. Damn, hendrix would have been proud of that. 10/10 that song for the guitar alone. Ive since listened to the studio version of maggot brain and i think i prefer the live version. both really good versions though.

So far away, money for nothing and walk of life are amazing. Three brilliant tracks to open the album with. Kind of makes it hard and sets a very high bar for the rest of the album though. The album takes a turn in pace at this point and slows down considerably. I love the sax in your latest trick. Great slow mover this song. Why worry is another good slow mover. The album definitely lulls slightly in the middle section. However a great finish with brother in arms.

Trans Europe express is a good song. None of the rest really hit me. Im not sure what i was expecting out of this one. Maybe more 80's synth pop. This was not that. I would have rated this album a 2 if im honest. But the song TEE brought it back up a notch.

Was just OK. Maybe it's more of a grower. It didnt grab me on the first listen. I'll come back to it in the future for a 2nd listen but for now this would be a 2.5/3 for me.

Some very interesting sounds and samples. I've heard some of them before. I can see why it was ahead of its time. But it dont think its an album i would come back to often if at all. Maybe i should be trippin more, then maybe i would. It could be something i put on in the background to focus on work perhaps. Other than that, i cant say i enjoy it.

WOW, what an opening 4 tracks to the album. Yes, bennyyyyyyyy!!!! Absolutely top stuff. Gets a bit silly with jamaican jerk off. But not so bad. It does lull a tad in the middle. Few decent songs. Saturday night smashes it again. Despite the lull in th e middle of the album, not many artists can have FIVE TOP TOP class tunes on one album. The length of the album didnt bother me too much on this one surprisingly. But i do think if it was shorted into maybe 10-11 tracks it would be even better considering half of the album would be absolute belters. Top tunes: Da funk, around the world. This album thinks its the wall. Sadly, its not. Way tooooo long man. Really disappointed with my first album of daft punk. couple of really good songs but the length and reptitiveness just kills it. You need to be off your face and in the club to enjoy this one.

Stand out song: Know your product. Apart from that, the rest didnt stand out. However, i did like the overall feel and sound of the album so i think i will come back for another listen. Overall, just OK.

Great start with please forgive me and babylon. They really remind me of the early 00's. This years love and sail away are also good tunes. The rest of the album if very soft rock. Not bad for background music but its not something i would go back to often. i would probaby give it a 3.5 but this album had more songs i enjoyed compared to some other albums ive given a 3.

I really enjoyed this one. Great album length with multiple quality tracks. I can pretty much listen to the whole album and enjoy every song. Its hard to believe this was their first album. Feels very polished. The guitar solo in eruption is a classic. Great piece of work. The cover of the kinks was very well done.

This one really surprised me. I remember the cult from she sells sanctuary. which was a absolute cracking tune. That was blasted on many a nights out. The album really showed me how tight these guys are and musically talented. The individual songs were nothing out of the ordinary but it will make me come back round to them and listen to some other of their albums.

Enjoyed the opener - let the good times roll. It had good energy to it. The rest of the album was chilled, with a big band sound for the most part. Overall pretty good. More of a background album for me though.

First time listen. There are some real quality tracks on this album. Its a real stand out and speaks about the quality of Sir Paul. Band on the run, Jet, Mrs Vandebilt, let me roll it, Picassos last words, nineteen hundred and eighty five are all real quality tunes. These are songs i will cherish forever.

Never even knew noise rock existed until today. I wish it had stayed that way. I would rather have poked needles in my jap's eye. This album was utter dross. No way this should be on here. fucking awful.

Couple of decent songs like fishermans blues, strange boat and stolen child. Overall, the album was absolutely way too long. Ultimately making me lose interest and concentration. I wanted to come back to this one but the length really puts me off.

Stand out tracks - TTP, kids and electric feel. Three really good tunes. The rest were fillers.

low 3 from me. Was just OK. None of the songs stood out. I didnt hate any from memory though. So average all round.

Strong undertones of punk influence in this one. I enjoyed the strong drum presence throughout the album. Enjoyed bone machine and break my body to open the album. Gigantic and where is my mind are the standouts. The latter definitely the most polished song on the album without doubt. Head and shoulders over the rest. Overall a decent first album. I'll come back for another listen at some point.

Another one of Toure's albums. Too long and repetitive for my liking. I can tell theres a good voice and some decent licks lurking beneath but it just dragged on again. Shame really. Didnt hate it but definitely fell on the scoring due to the length and repetitiveness. I wont be coming back to this one.

He's just a rascal, dizzzzzyyyyy rascallllll. Enjoyed fix up look sharp and jus a rascal. The rest not so much. The rest wasnt really my bag it was just OK. Its albums like this i wish we had a 10 star rating.

Good album. A few tracks which i totally forgot about. Songs that stood out were date with the night, pin, Y control and maps. Some good releases right there. Length wise i felt the album was spot on. I would probably say this was a 3.5 for me so ill give it a 4 because it was much better than some of the 3's ive given recently.

stand outs / Good tracks - hard days night, should have known better, and i love her, cant buy me love. Overall a good album. Some classic early beatles tracks. Other half of the album is not so strong but this is them just getting started.

This is a grower not a show'er. Love the guitar and harmony work on Carry on. Good tunes - Carry on, almost cut my hair, helpless, deju vu, our house, 4+20, country girl and everybody i love you. This is a good listen. I wouldnt class it up there with my greatest of all time but its a really good album. I think a 4.5 would be ideal. This has been better than most 4's ive given.

NOt sure why this one is even on the list. Very average noise. First track is decent - up against the wall. The rest of it is like pissing up against the wall.

Brown sugar. That guitar riff. Amazing song. I love everything about it. Jaggers swagger really coming through on the vocals. Wild horses is tragically good. Love the melody and how this one moves. Cant you hear me knocking. That riff. Makes you want to get out your air guitar. Love it. Richards smashes this track. but damn son, that sax solo - Quality. Followed by the very bluesy solo. Absolutely banging tune. loved bitch. got a real set of balls to it. Then i loved how i got the blues slows this record down. Moving into sister morphine very nicely. The guitar on this track is great. Dead flowers is a belter. Take me down little suzie!! Cracker. But what a way to finish the album. Keeping with those slow soothing melodies in the last few tracks. Moonlight mile is so good. Bravo. A classic for me.

The first thing i noticed about joni is that excellent voice. Really nice. The album itself seems to start off on a level and remains on the same level throughout. I like the acoustic drive throughout the record. Makes it more of a chilled out album to me. Overall, a decent album, probably a 3.5 for me. Didnt really hit any high points though. This was distinctly average for me. No tracks really stood out. That meant i didnt love or hate any. Felt like a very safe one dimensional album. Wasnt offensive, it just didnt connect with me at all. I could happily put it on in the background but thats as far as i would go. I think a low 3 would be fair.

This is my first beefheart album. Im not sure if its just me but i could barely hear the vocals in some songs?! maybe thats the appeal....The music wasnt offensive. Not bad. Nothing to shout home about though either. 3 for me. Standout tracks - zig zag, nuff n yes, im glad, plastic factory

Duration - Comes in at 37 mins. Not a bad length. Album opens with an absolute classic - more than a feeling. Every man and his dog has heard this tune. Quality. Great vocals and a lovely solo. peace of mind - what a beauty of a solo. good track. loved the opening intro of foreplay. pretty wild. Then that transition into long time and the opening guitar lick. Damn nice. Another great solo in this track. These guys know how to play. Hitch a ride - banging! The organ work is immense. What a great song. Solo fits in superbly with the feel of this track. At first i didnt know what to think of the vocals, they almost felt TOO soft. But overall, the song works really well. WHAT A TUNE. I have never heard a slayer album before. I had heard of the band though. But damn this music. It just doesnt do it for me. The songs felt too high tempo. Like they were just fast for the sake of it, regardless of the melody. I think thats why i have always been drawn more towards bands like maiden, metallica etc than this kind of stuff. You can tell musically the band is talented. No doubt about it. They are good musicians. The drummer specifically is a bad ass. Theres some good guitar work too. However, that does not save the album. The track "jesus saves" could not even save this thing. Wow, 28 mins long i thought. Probably 28 mins too long after a reflection. For me personally, this was absolutely junk.

Krautrock may just be the longest single ive ever heard at nearly 12 mins. I cant say it was a particular standout either. It felt long just for the sake of being long. Very repetitive. Now it was quite a jump in style betweenh Krautrock and sad skinhead. One i wasnt prepared for. I think the change in style sums this album up. It didnt know what it wanted to be. Top tracks - The first 4.30 mins of jennifer before it goes whacky. Overall, this was a truly awful album in my honest opinion. Hopefully it inspired something better.

However, in its own right, its a song full of magic. So good. Same goes for passenger. The rhythm guitar is just iconic. The melody is amazing, the lyrics are spot on for it. Great tune. These two are iconic tracks. Love the Rhythm and drum beat on sixteen. Not so sure about those lyrics though... Some weird sin was a real grower for me. Great rhythm and dual vocals. The album struggles to hit the same heights as LFL and passenger. These two songs create a really high bar. However, most other tracks are real growers. It took a few listens to grip me. But im glad i stook with it. I like iggys style and vocals so it was worth it. # Top Tunes: lust for life and passenger. Other notable songs were sixteen, weird sin, tonight and fall in love with me. # Would I listen to it again? Definitely.

Then realised it was some remaster made of other tracks which were cut from the original album based on the Wiki info. Thankfully youtube saved me and it has the original 1991 album release in full. The album itself was interesting for me. Not something i would normally go for. It had some interesting beats and mixes with a twist of hip hop to it. I can see why people would enjoy this through the acid scene. Its crazy to think this is british because thats not the sound i associate with our shores. Theres a couple of catchy tracks. Decent i'd say but nothing great. Definitely nothing memorable. The album keeps at the same level throughout. This is one of those albums when you had to be there i think. # Top Tunes: What time is love / Make it rain / 3AM / Last train.. # Would I listen to it again? Meh, i wasnt offended. It was OK. But i dont think i would listen to it in its entirety. I might check out some more KLF tracks to see if they have anything decent though.

It feels like its all done at home on your mac. There wasnt any standout tracks. These could easily be background noise in your local H&M store. The album doesnt bring anything new to the table imo - unless its due to the mix of electronic and hip hop?! I honestly cant see why this is on the list. Rating this was very tough. I didnt hate it. Definitely didnt like it. was it ok? At a strong push maybe. Overall id say underwhelming and forgettable, a 1.5-2 would be a fair rating for me. # Top Tunes: None. # Would I listen to it again? I always enjoyed it if im honest. A very catchy song, good lyrics, great use of strings. Billys voice gets a bit whiney but its still a cracker. The drum beat suits the song to a T. This was the highlight of part 1 of the album for me. Which is a shame being so early on. The album (OG vinyl) started off very mellow. Acoustic driven. Then it hit "jellybelly" which turned it on its head and into more of a grunge sound. It was quite a 180 in sound and direction. I dont think it suited the flow of the album if im honest. The first disc followed this pattern flipping between an slower paced tune to a alt sound. Couple more decent songs on this part like 33, bodies and to forgive. Porcelina of vast ocean. Overall, lots of alright songs with one cracker but a strange mix of acoustic / alt / grunge. Not sure if it works that well for me. I had to take a break at this point. No way could i handle 2 hours in one sitting. Side 3 & 4: Bullet with butterfly wing, 1979, where boys fear to treat, we only come out at night and zero were the highlights of the 2nd side. Overall, this is a really long fucking album. Its the longest album ive ever heard. I found it quite infuriating. Why? Well because firstly, there is some genuinely good songs on here. Easily 5-6 that comes to mind straight away. But sadly there was just so many songs on the album which were average or should have been B-sides maybe. That plus the length brings the scoring down for me. If SP stripped most of the b-side material and kept the core songs from each album, maybe 10-12 tracks on the album, then this would have been a real classic. # Top Tunes: Tonight, tonight. Overall the album is a tad long for me but theres some really good songs and music on this album. I came back for a 2nd listen and it was more palatable. Just an alright average album imo. This probably shouldnt be on the list. What a tune. Great song even to this day. The scratching make it sound a tad dated but i love the tune. Same again with manchild. Its all flowing back. Manchild is interesting mix of pop, synth and abit hip hop. I liked it. The album is then followed by inner city mama and kisses in the wind. Two weaker singles imo. Unfortunately, the album starts with its strongest 3-4 songs and then tumbles quickly downhill. Next gen goes into full blown pop/rap mode. And from there it kinda continues on into a mellay of 80s pop/rap. Sounded very underwhelming and dated. I have no idea how she has been compared to prince. Its nowhere near the same level. Sadly the album goeeessssss wayyyy too long clocking in over an hour. I would never have guessed she was swedish though. I'd give this a 2. Its just a gem of a track. Down in the tube station at midnight is an absolute banger. Love this tune. Let the bells ring. Neat little guitar lick and a good chorus. Overall a decent sound with some good use of vocals and strings. No song really stood out as being really good on first listen though. I stand by my comment on double albums, i dont see the point. Never heard them before and it was excellent. So this one had a high bar to live up to. I had a big smile on my face when i saw the words - king crimson. Marvelous. Larks tongues - i think this is now my longest track ive ever listened to. Either way it was shite. It did not warrant 13 minutes of my life. The rest of the album failed to turn around. Overall this was a massive disappointment compared to In The Court Of The Crimson King. My dislike for prog rock has returned! Fantastic. Gimme three steps - very catchy. Love the guitar work on this one. Some great licks and solos. For some reason, some of the vocals remind me of the theme tune to only fools and horses. no idea why. Awww simple man. What a tune!!! The guitar riff again. Absolutely top notch. The vocals on the chorus is so powerful. fucking ace solo on this bad boy. The piano in things going on makes me think of the scenes of movies in the deep south where people walk into the bar and theres a honky tonk band banging out tunes on a piano. Sounds very cowboy to me. Quite catchy, i like it. Decent tune. Although the quality of the album dipped here from the very high standard set in the previous songs. This continues until free bird kicks in. What a finale to the album. Overall a very good album for me. His last two albums were good. For a first album this is a very dark and bleary album. Nick's voice is as expected throughout. Good use of strings in river man. Three hours, theres some great finger picking and bass in this one. Overall, a decent introduction to nick Drake. Definitely the weakest of his three albums imo but its a decent listen with some good melodies. Theres no doubt about the skill of Ananda Shankar either. Its a well put together album. But for me personally, i can only take 2-3 songs in one go. A full album was simply too much and it detracts from the quality. I got lost in it. And i dont mean in a good way. Ultimately it did not hold my attention. My hearing isnt the best so its annoying when i cant hear lyrics. I did come back to this album though and it is a grower. There's a lot of hurt, anger and energy in this album. Its definitely not for everyone. The first 6 tracks were the better part of the album. Thats been a common problem for any long album on this project, i do tend to get ear fatigue. This album beats the shit of most of the stuff on this project though. Nuff said. Its a banger in my eyes. A sleeping giant. Theres some other great tracks on here like change gonna come, shake, my girl, wonderful world, rock me baby, Satisfaction. These are all cracking versions. My major gripe with this album is the large majority are cover songs. For me, it brings the rating of the album down. No doubt about it. Overall, this is a very bluesy album with a lot of soul. It doesnt matter if you dont like indy, or that you are sick of brit pop, you just need to listen to the quirky lyrics, cracking music and feel the energy in this bad boy. The first two albums from the arctic monkeys were absolutely class before they went into that weird phase. This was at their peak imo, raw and full of spunk. Singing with that yorkshire accent like you were in your nana's bathroom. They were pretty tight. Not quite as polished as their later albums but thats one of the things i love about this album. Its gritty. This is one of the best albums from the 00's. I wouldnt put this album up there with the VERY best of all time but its a bloody good album. A three is too low for some of the tunes, a 4 too high for others. A 3.5 would be about right. I have never actually listened to this album in its entirety. Im not sure why. I think its because everyone told me i SHOULD. People telling me that i SHOULD love it. I hate that. Honestly, ive always felt RHCP were not suited to their funk roots. They have the musical ability but the sound and lyrics arent there. Thats where tracks like breaking the girl and UTB stand out. Under the bridge is an absolute classic. No doubt about it. Sadly, this album is simply too fucking long. Come on, nearly 80 mins? shit man. Theres 5 really good tunes on this thing. Cut the album to a total of 10, maybe 11 tracks at a push and it would have been an easy 4 for me. Sadly theres about 10+ tracks bringing this thing down. First time ive heard this in its entirety except a track or two. Its clearly an emotional time in his life. That becomes even more apparent when you read the history of the album. I appreciate how raw the album is. Its clearly a very emotional and personal piece of art. Theres a few good tracks scattered here and there too. I enjoyed the laid back melody of hold on. Its quite nice. I found out - the bass and drums really drive the song. Working class hero. A fantastic song. I was surprised to find out this track was not released as a single. Its clearly the best song on the album in my eyes. Well well well - well, that was a surprise. Could of been Cobain behind the mic if im honest!! The drive and raw emotion in lennons voice. Really reminds me of early grunge. Was this the start of it? Doubt it but the similarity is there in the vocals. Overall, if you strip back its emotional angle, the quality of songs arent at the highest levels you expect from a beatle. It pales in comparison to his beatles work or even later Lennon, Solo McCartney or even wings. Im really torn with this one. Initially i was thinking a 3 because its so far away from the "best version" of lennon i enjoy. However, its clear the quality, raw emotion and personal issues are deeply rooted in this album. And it still is banging to this day. The problem opening with this song is it sets such a high bar for the album and it quite frankly cant live up to that level. Which is a shame. I think they should have pushed it towards the back end if not the very last song. This song must have blew your tits off back in the day. Anyway, theres a few other good tracks on here like train of thought, high and low and sun always shines on tv. The latter two being strong singles in their own right. Overall, the album is a pretty good debut. Take on me being the absolute stand out with a few others mingled in. The problem is theres many average fillers on the album too. Im torn between a 3 and a low 4. Theres some good songs like got you under my skin and you make me feel so young. A negative about the album is the length. It feels way too long and samey after a while. Which is a shame. But overall a good album, however, not quite top tier for me. Its like someone is playing the record in the room down the hall and i can hear it from the distance. Thats a big miss and a big shame. This band could and should have a big fuck off sound. Shame it doesnt live up to its reputation. I have a soft spot for british punk but this misses the mark for me. # Album Name: Low # Artist: David Bowie # Rating: 5/5 # Comments: I love a bit of bowie, but i have to admit, i havent heard much of the berlin trilogy era before. My first listen of this album was, well, underwhelming. I think thats the best way to put it. Its a tale of two halves. First part of the album is vocal driven and the second half more electronic experimental/ambient. I decided to give it another listen. The first half has some good songs on it like Speed of life, breaking glass, sound & vision and be my wife. It was a good first half! Real grower. The latter half has Eno written all over it. It should be a Eno album almost. Pretty much from track 7 onwards. And Eno isnt someone who has struck me that well musically. You can feel the german influence. Im sure the electronics were well ahead of its time back in the day, and i can appreciate that, but its hard for me to grab on to. It doesnt connect with me musically. Its not how i know bowie either. However, patience is a virtue. It turns out a few of the tracks on the second half were pretty damn good. I could see how it inspired lots of other artists despite it not being my favourite version of bowie. Sound of vision and Be my wife are the standouts for me. # Album Name: Highway 61 # Artist: Bob Dylan # Rating: # Comments: I’m not sure what it is with Dylan. There’s a track which clicks here or there, yes he does have some great lyrics, but overall I just don’t see or feel the grand appeal of the man. Highway 61 is probably his best album ive heard to date. Its starts with the fantastic rolling stone but its hard for the rest of the album to live up to this track. Theres some good melodies and tunes but it feels more like a lazy sunday afternoon or something id stick on in the background. Theres just something missing which would take it to a 5. I enjoyed it but it wasnt great. I cant put it up there with the greatest albums or even a low 5. So a 4 it is. # Album Name: Hounds of Love # Artist: Kate Bush # Rating: 5/5 # Comments: Kate's vocals on this album are absolutely fantastic. Top drawer! The albums opens with the fantastic running up at hill and hounds of love. Both are great tracks. Thats a big test for the rest of the album to stand up too. The bass, vocals and guitar are wicked in Big sky. The use of strings dotted around the album are rather empowering and give the album a dark undertone in certain areas. I like it. The second half of the album takes a dark turn. Starting with under ice. Waking the witch is a bit of a mind fuck. I could imagine it backing a horror scene. I have to say for a first listen this album was POWERFUL. i really enjoyed the sounds, vocal and overall music. Great album. It kicks you in the balls. For me, this is an album of ballads with a few pop songs. There is a somber undertone of the album which does begin to take its toll. But the tracks are solid and enjoyable. There’s just something missing from the album which would take it to the next level. Adele definitely has the potential but i think she should try a more soulful approach in the future. I feel those may grow on me. It would take a few listens. But for now it wasnt too bad of a first listen. Im on the fence with this one. Its just too damn long. Maybe it would have been better to listen to it as two single albums. Initial impression is a 4. That was mainly due to the length of the album.I honestly think it may notch up to a 5 perhaps with a breakdown of the album or listened in smaller chunks. SO thats. what i did. I came back for another listen. This time in smaller chunks. And i have to say it was much better. way less song fatigue. Not as good as rumous but a very good album. Looking at the history of the album only the first 10 songs were on the original release. I always remember growing up in my teens and hitting the indie clubs. You could guarantee the mondays would have a few tunes absolutely belting out with people ripping up the dance floor. Usually off their face of course. But still, the mondays had some great tunes. I've seen them live and they were good! Sadly, this album is extremely flat. Theres a couple of good tunes like Mad cyril and WFL but the rest of the album doesnt hit the mark. But the length of the album plus the crap skits drag it down to a 2. # Album Name: In Utero # Artist: Nirvana # Rating: 5/5 # Comments: Honestly, for me this is a great album. It doesnt have the pop hits like nevermind but its a really good album. You can feel the rage in several songs. Then it completely changes tone and goes rather mellow in several tracks like PT, rape me and dumb. There's a slightly different direction on this album with the introduction of more strings. I would have loved to see where Cobain would have taken the band. The best track on the album for me is Radio unit friendly shifter. The lyrics and energy in the distortion is brilliant. The duet with Paul McCartney is a little corny, perhaps a bit cheesy but a nice pop cheesefest. Then the trifecta begins - thriller, beat it and billy jean. Wow. Theres things going off on all sides. Coming in at 28 mins this is a rather short album but suited for the style of music. Theres plenty of melodies, nice acoustics and vocals. An enjoyable album. # Album Name: Searching for the young soul rebels # Artist: Dexys midnight runners # Rating: 4/5 # Comments: For a debut album, the band is very tight musically. Theres a big jazz and SKA influence in many of the tracks. The sax in Meet in Caffs was absolutely banging. I think “Im just looking” was an attempt at a Ballard from the Dexys! The build up to the sax is sweet. Geno. Nuff said. What a classic tune. Everything about the song is A grade. Quite a fun album overall. I did find it got a bit too much by the end. Album Name: The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill # Artist: Lauren Hill # Rating: 4/5 # Comments: LH has a fantastic voice. That deep soul kind. Ex factor is a brill song. That guitar solo. feels like santana. Zion is with Santana! nice tune. Did not like the ending though. Not sure why they need to talk out the track. Good song apart from that. This talking thing happens way too often on the album. That thing - a classic song which everyone knows The first half of the album is very good! The problem i find with the rap/rnb from this era is there too much album. This goes on for nearly 1hr 20. The length detracts from the overall quality. When i look back at the number of songs ive saved - its a decent number. But theres a helluva lot filler too. Some is tedious. Some not bad. If they streamlined this album down to 10 tracks or so it would of been hugely effective. An easy 5. But the length detracts away from that 5. This album is probably a 4 or 4.5 tops for me.
