Aretha on the top of her game. Enough said
Queen at their imperious best
Classic Classic rock. Not fully my cup of tea but can appreciate that's it's a good example of the genre
A bit patchy and a little too smooth for my tastes. Not as raw and funky as my favourite Sly & The Family Stone.
Only half available on Spotify.
Never listened all the way through before. Quite the historical artefact
Loved this when it first came out. Thought I still would be sounding a little bit dated now tbh. Still passable but maybe not 'classic'
Realised I'd never listened to this all the way through. Really enjoyed it, a pleasant surprise. Top notch cut and paste sampling
Weird how I don't think this is that good but it somehow draws you in
Not a fan of some of the crooning which hasn't aged well but the more upbeat stuff is 🔥
Just OK. Maybe I was just born a few years too late but I feel like a lot of the Madchester stuff is massively overrated.
Never really got past Portishead with Triphop. A bit more abrasive than that and this style does sounds a little dated now but I enjoyed it
Still OK but hasn't aged that well. There's better examples of the genre.
OK but not the best LCD Soundsystem record by a long way
I'll give it 2 stars for the production. It's very slickly produced but not my thing at all.
Pretty twee. Interesting to listed as historical artefact but can't say I actually enjoyed it.
Turns out twee 1960s folk is something I quite like. Who knew?
Somehow knowing the backstory makes this more powerful and poignant but still a great soul album regardless
Is it OK to like the music of U2 if you don't like U2? I hate that this is so slick and well produced and genuinely good...
Ignoring the questionable personality of the man involved this is one of the greatest Chirstmas albums of all time.
The first album I've got where I had genuinely NEVER heard of them before. Grungy and crunchy and surprisingly enjoyable.
Just couldn't stop thinking "This really sounds like the Rolling Stones". Which is good I suppose.
Trip hop that still holds up nearly 30 years later
I was dreading relistening to this having been quite into J5 when I was a teenager but this actually stood up better than I'd feared. Still pretty derivative but enjoyable nonetheless
Never fully listened to a Stooges album before. Love the drones mixed in with tight songwriting. Ahead of its time.
Only really familiar with Brothers in Arms from my Dad's record collection. Sultans of Swing the obvious highlight but it hangs togehter really well and passed the time much quicker than an album of 4-6 minute fairly self indulgent guitar noodling tracks has any right to. Recommended background listening for a chilled evening.
Right up my street. Catchy melodies, luscious synths, smart lyrics. The 80s in a single album.
OK but feels like it's here because it was his last rather than his greatest
Kind of washed over me Good production, Heroes obviously a classic, the rest was good, but not amazing? Maybe I've just got very high expectations for Bowie.
I can't quite pinpoint why but Ray charles just leaves me cold. I can appreciate that technically everything's very impressive and in the right place but for some reason it doesn't hit the spot emotionally. Weird.
Coincidentally got this the day after Paul's boutique. Nowhere near as good is it?
Landfill 80s jangly guitars. Couldn't finish it.
I'm biased because this is my teens but I love this mash up cut and paste style
Despite growing up in the 90s/00s I realised I'd never actually listened to Korn properly before. I liked it more than I thought I would, appreciate the tight production but it's still not really my thing.
I gave it a go but it turns out I'm severely allergic to country music ballads like this.
This was truly the sound of my teens. I completely wore this CD out back in the late 90s. Sadly it's showing its age now. Maybe it's because some of these tunes are still so ubiquitous. Still, I guess it's still the most pure embodiment of the genre of big beat. Enjoyed it but didn't blow me away like it did 25 years ago
Nope, still allergic to country music.
Yeah I knew about Apache and Bongo Rock but wasn't expecting to spot a famous sample in almost every single track on the whole album! An essential history lesson that also happens to be a great album in its own right.
I just can't relate to this sort of stuff. No idea if it's 'good' or not for the genre. For that reason it gets 2 instead of 1 stars but nope, sorry, not my cup of tea.
80s synth pop is my jam and this is a great example. Pass me the white sports jacket with the sleeves rolled up please!
Peak Prince. All killer. What more can I say?
Variable. Some ofthese are incredible but some less so. Worth it for the gold in here though - Hurt and I Hung My Head are the stand outs
