Man, guy was a performer. Jackson stood out, weird how it can stir up memories
Silly me, left it on shuffle. Still that rhythm guitar! Paired with the spacy vocals I can see how this album influenced so many artists
Bold to open with an 8 min song. Rest of album is fine, just not my vibe
Weird. First track was dope, I'm.just not a jazz boy
Eh fine. Rasta isn't my jam
Blues baby. Gave an audible "damn" on track one. Loved it
Funkin nucts
Great. Nin influence
Masterpiece
I think we need to get this album to the Ukraine as a WMD
Cool. Average 80s ish music, didn't pick up anything especially good or bad. Second track was notably good
Cool album. Could see her influencing Sleter Kinney. Loved the surprise Thom Yorke. I imagine she thought music was low on new ideas when writing this. Not sure where the thought came from but idk that made sense to me
Fuck yes. Was gonna hit 4 stars, then that first live track came in. Janis for prez
It's a masterpiece. Feel off giving two 5s in a row. RIP Kanye, we miss you
Maybe it's a marvel for drum & bass. Maybe this album redefined the genere. Maybe 9/11 unified the US.
Beatles meets Dandy Warholls. Good. Nothing too remarkable but I vibed with a lot of the songs
Absolute titan of an album. One of the first albums I loved as a kid. Dragged at times, but tons of gems and overall a great collection of modern blues songs with musical themes repeated throughout. 4/5
Would be 2 stars if released now, but seeing it's 45 years old shows this album made the list for innovation. Likely will not listen again but happy this influence is all over modern music. 3/5
Good lyrics, but not much else. Very surprised I didn't love Bob Dylan but may just not be for me
I really like 80s synths. Shout brings this album to 4
Might not be a fan of older edm based off my experience with this and Ronis album. It may have done something for the genera so I'll give it 2
Music was top tier. I was always keeping up with the bassist, attentive to the guitarist, and driven by the drummer. I don't think I like the classic metal tenor for the vocalist though. I'm between 3-4, but based on my past rankings we're going with 3
First album where multiple songs made it into my "holy cow" playlist. Easy 5/5. Absolutely stellar example of strong songwriting, production, and playing in one group
Dirty Springsteen. 2/5.
Some fantastic tracks, all good ones
Such mixed feelings. Spicy basslines, amazing music, but idk man. Def a product of it's time. The lyrics kept it from a 5 for me
Someday rocked
4. Very good album, saved Life in the City. Funky, fun, just slow at parts for my tastes
Okay conceptually cool. Musically good, just not for me
FUNKY
Perfectly fine album. Not my style but in no way is it bad.
Arguably the most influential album I've heard so far. It was good, and there were some stand out amazing tracks. Surprised my gut says 4/5, but I don't want to minimize how good this was. None of the songs made their way to my best of playlist which is a need for a star
Queen is underrated. I know what I typed.
Fine, good songwriter
Solid. Good pop 60s album
This album was a lot. A lot of good, and a lot of awesome innovation. Also a lot of styles/sounds I didn't love.
Hits every criteria of a 5 - Likely influential - At least one notable musician - I liked it - I saved a song - Cohesive Loved Gasoline Dreams and the hits (BOB, Ms. Jackson, So Fresh So Clean ect)
Really interesting. Likely won't listen again but it's good
I'd be happy to never hear these songs again. 2/5
Punk, glam, and r&r. Went down the rabbit hole to try and figure out if Turbonegro was racist. My conclusion isnt that they're racist, but careless. Therefore I'll keep Prince of the Rodeo on my best of list. This is pure rock. Audibly said goddamn multiple times while listening.
Might be a 5. This is right, electrifying, and a taproot for my favorite features in music. Kick Out the Jams was of course a stellar song but that intro, and every other song was blistering
Extremely mid
Wizard
Reminds me of the stuff my high school band made when we discovered the synth setting on an 80 key yamaha
Old school making whoopie music. Not my vibe
Literally all bangers. Polly is better than I remembered. Territorial Pissings is a perfect raw, play it in your basement with friends song. Kurt was off his rocker and the lyrics don't always make sense but who gives a glance when the band is this good.
Oof
So so good. Great hip hop, 4/5
3. It's fine. Nothing more nothing less
The percussionists got their day in the melodic sun. 2/5
Tough call between 4 and 5. Awesome album, no skips and a save
Remarkable, but misaligned with my general tastes. 4/5
Jazz is for decepticons. 1/5
Musicians are great. Style is not. 2/5
3/5. Feel like I'm supposed to like it more. Just didn't really click for me
Extremely good album.
It's good. Indie predecessor but no saves
3, it's both great and bad at times. Some good pop-rock songs.
2/5. Nothing notable in here for me
Great, hard album. Not my cuppa but good
Stellar vocalist
I can hear how this influenced Steve Aoki, Guetta, Glitch Mob. This album was a banger. Saved Jump n' Shout, many notable tracks including Red Alert as another stand out. Guess it's a 5!
Really surprised I liked thrash so much. The breakdowns were the most interesting part to me. It's a shame the bass is mixed so low
Less than mid. It's the worst halves of Bowie and The Eagles put together in a hybrid we don't need in 2023
Bass went off, wildly standout. 5+
2. Hate to say it but I didn't love the album.
Of course I love this album. Grew up on it, one of the first bands I liked on my own. Pieces of Want is a banger, Electric Feel is groovy, Kids of course. Didn't feel anything here justified the 5 but I love the songs on this album and am happy it came up
Woof. 1. Not listening again. It's cool, I guess, in the same way a banana taped to the wall is art. Not for me
2 not a steely fan
4-5 range. The R&B percussion, dark synth elements, and lofty airy vocals are a hell of a combo. Will be revisiting.
Eh. It's cool, but it's not good. 2
Somehow didn't really dig this one, like, at all. Wild horses was good. Brown sugar was racist and rapey. Idk man won't revisit
After listening i can only get hard while listening to the long version of Genius of Love. 2/5
Wild this is almost 40 years old. The wailing guitars are iconic. Wanted Dead or Alive is one of my favorite songs. There are bangers here. That being said, it felt like a collection of songs with a bunch of stand outs rather than a top-to-bottom killer. 4/5
1
Easy 5. Album is great while going all over the place with influences. Started a replay as soon as it ended and saved a bunch of tracks.
Phenomenal.
Damon Albarn must be protected at all costs
One of the hardest rock bands. Bummer they canceled their reunion in my city. This album is an easy 5
4. Satirical and well played. Saved a song, and its right up my alley. Pioneer for the stuff I like
This is one of the trippiest albums I've heard here so far. Feel this album stumbled barefoot through a field of legos so Kid A from Radiohead could run. 2
5. This is one of the albums that taught me what a bassist can bring to a band. It's quirky in the right amounts. It rocks.
3. There's some cool here, and a good amount of innovation. It's lacking the timelessness I was expecting given the infamy of Iggy Pop
Less than the sum of its parts. The bassist and singer go off. The rest of the band is good. The music is tight, it's interesting and new every song, but this still didn't click for me. I respect anyone who rated it high but my cap for this is a 3.
Gal got pipes. I wrote off Dolly because "country bad", but honestly this album slaps. There were no bad songs. Nothing overstayed its welcome, the lyrics told clear stories, and again gal got pipes. Likely wont enter my rotation due to religious themes on some tracks. Would love a gay punk version of Traveling Man. Stellar road trip music, 5
I mean, free bird. 3
Okay look. I thought this would be an instant 5. And some tracks certainly were. And it's a concept album. And the band goes off. And I like weird shit. But tbh, my problem with this album is that aside from Money there's nothing that stands on its own. This is good art, and I love it. And it earns a 4 from me
Pioneer for stuff I like. Singer is intolerable
Demos beat the tracks. 2/5
Pretty pretty pretty good. 4
Not for me. 3
Great classic rock album. 4/5
This is my favorite rap album. Top tracks include Backseat Freestyle, Money Trees, and The Art of Peer Pressure. There are no bad tracks, although some are meant to be listened to in the context of the album. 5/5, hands down
Cool album. Beck absolutely influenced the modern music I like. There were a few tracks I'll revisit. The only thing keeping it from a full 5 is that I don't love his vocals oddly enough.
The production on this is wacky, the singer is mid, but that bassist goes off. Giving it a 2. Probably won't ever think about this album again.
It'll get 4. Harmonies are clutch, song structures are interesting, Michelle is a great blsong
Saved Empty Pages. This is good, rooted, headbobbing rock and roll.
Maurice White can write songs. Each track is a composition, and each track is enjoyable. 5
Okay so I'm young enough for this to be nerdy. This album takes me back to middle school. In the Era of Panic! At the Disco and Eminem, my friends favorite artist was Def Leppard. Listened to this stuff constantly around him, and I think the personal connection gets it from a 3 to a 4 for me. RIP Daniel
Boy band music
Funky spy music. 4/5
It's neat. A bit too experimental for my tastes
Surprise bjork!
I don't get it. 2
Its good, just didn't really hold my attention. There's incredible funky songs and I'm happy to have listened. Just not as good as the other bowie I've heard
Slaps claps buns and baps. 5/5. Lyrics are where I want em, intensity is there, and I find it's well mixed. Good guitar/bass interplay
This album is satire that dances with satirizing itself. Meta humor gets to be too cyclical when it can't take itself seriously, and unfortunately this album continues to push that line. There's a lot here to like, but it feels like folks who stand for nothing bashing anyone with a stance.
My favorite from Stevie so far. This album has everything. It's got political commentary. It's got grooves. It's got whoopee makin music. Highly recommend
Pop album GOAT prove me wrong
Goth fuggin music hell yeah
3
Easy 5er. The reason he's called the boss is because his lyrics are incredible, his band is tight, and his music makes me feel like I'm on my first road trip
Fck mrrssy
It's the cure meets tears for fears. Not super impressed tbh
Incredible musician. Pioneer. Good album, sophomore is better
Not into hard drugs, so may have missed this one. 2
There's a lot of good here. It's the right balance of pop and boundary pushing, and viewed in the context of its time I get why Iggy has such a following. I really liked it. Not sure if we're looming at a 4 or a 5. Coin flip said 4
This is good country. I didn't know good country still got made. Not my style (slow burn is the opposite of the 170bpm punk tracks i normally listen to), but hot damn what a song writer. I'll probably revist at some point. This is a great album to keep in the back pocket for when the car can't decide what to listen to on a road trip
Track 1: 2 minutes in, and I will be amazed if this gets above a single star. Track 3: The singer thought "what would a high school rock band's take on The Downward Spiral sound like?", surrounded themselves with yes-men, and hit record. Track 4: This is noise. Track 6: There's a part of me that wonders if I'm missing something. It's the same irrational, depressed as fuck part that blames myself for 9/11 even though I was 5 years old at the time. Track 7: Fine. I don't like music any more. You win. Track 9: God is dead and is buried behind a Bob Evans
It's good basic R&R
odd vocalist paired with southern rock is not a recipe to make me happy.
Famous chef Gordon Ramsey mentions if a menu has too many options, it's a good sign the restaurant will do none of them excellently. This album embodies that concept. It's as if the album combines Dream Theater, Indigo Girls, and a dash of psychedelica. This album suffers because it can't commit.
I'd stop by her festival set if she wasn't in a contentious time slot. This is interesting, and I think live she could play with some of the tracks to make a hell of a show. This album creates the feeling of being on your phone in a beautiful, mountainous forest. Not sure when I'd want to feel that way. Won't end up in my rotation but I'm happy to have listened to it.
Bangers sprinkled among good dad rock. Gimme Shelter is a stupidly good song. Had a shot at 5, but the album sandwiches a bunch of mid between a killer opening and closing track. 4/5.
Surprisingly, 4
Punk and Shoegaze? Hellyeahbrother.
Lazarus is one of the best songs I've heard. Full stop. Interpreting this album with the context that this is Bowie's final hurrah is deep. I hope, when I age, I am as reflective and accepting as Bowie
5 hands down. It's NIN if they were sad instead of angry. Wildly interesting album
Love Nirvana. I must have missed the magic of this one. 3/5
Solid. 4, maybe 5 if it had more
This is the first Album I bailed on. Goddamn
Fucking yikes, but I guess that’s the point. He did what he wanted- make me think he’s unhinged. I get the anger. And it’s cool to rebel and stuff. But a white man dropping choice words is never kosher. Also fuck this guy. Rapist asshole. The music was fine. 3/5
a precursor for Justice. I liked it, but will probably never revisit. Added a song to a pool vibes playlist. 3/5
REM? REM inspired? Better than I expected. Not just a one hit wonder
Wish I wasn't drunk the whole age of my life where I listened to this stuff. It's astonishing. And I vastly misunderstood the nuance in the recordings. It's simple but not in a bad way. 4/5
Dreamy. Remember this guy got really into Moog synths. Love that he pushed the envelope for sound design in music. Going to give it 4 for it's influence but likely won't revisit
Mid
I wish I knew why his music was so good at summing up how I feel when depressed. 3.5, round to 3
