XTC
2/5
For there to be above average music some music must be below average. This band makes the normal distribution work. Not bad music, but the singer sounds like being rick rolled for 49 minutes, the instruments, especially the piano have some fun riffs, but its not enough to save it.

Miles Davis
2/5
I think this might be too jazz. This whole album left me somewhere between lost and confused, I'm not sure if any of the songs had a beginning, middle, or end. Maybe I will come back in 2 decades and see if it grows on me.

Amy Winehouse
3/5
One of the all time great voices. The album's topics didn't really land with me, I just don't think I have ever been that crazy about a guy. Also what was that 'its fine that I cheated' song?
Favorite track was in my bed.

Big Brother & The Holding Company
4/5
Love the guitar, especially in the first few songs, but it is outshined by Janice's iconic voice. The album starts much stronger than it finishes, though the two live performances at the end bring it up a bit. 2nd song was my favorite.
The Police
1/5
This album was not for me. It's creative, and each song brings something different, but none of it captured me. While each song was different, within the song they were flat and repetitive. No favorite song from this one.
Stevie Wonder
4/5
I mean, it's Stevie. The vocals, the funk guitar, the driving rhythms, there's nothing not to love. I particularly always love how much individual voice the bass has in every song. The one thing keeping thus from 5 stars is that the album doesn't play to me like its meant to be listened as one piece. Favorite song is of course living for the city, the music and the message.
Beatles
5/5
Maybe I am a little basic, but I love this album. It's just so fun to listen to, and you want to sing along to every song. This is the band that defined the music of the next half century. No skips. 5 stars. Favorite song is please mister postman.
Fugees
4/5
This feels like it could be my favorite rappers favorite album. So many later artists have a sound that reminds me of the fugees sound. The rhyme schemes are layered and equal to any modern rapper. Mant of the tracks remind me of MF Doom. I cannot believe I didn't find this album sooner. Favorite track was Zealots
Jeff Buckley
3/5
This album is ok. Jeff has an incredible voice and listening to it is a treat. It's very moody though, and I rarely seek the kind of melancholy this album emotes. Also the electric guitar often enters songs in a way I feel very jarring. Favorite track was hallelujah.
Deep Purple
3/5
I only knew this band from Smoke on the Water, so this album surprised me in a good way. It is the exact sound I think of when someone says classic rock n roll. If you love guitar riffs you will love this album. Outside of the guitar though this album didn't stand out to me. My favorite track was child in time.
Stan Getz
5/5
I was given this album on a quiet weekend in fall. There could have been no better time. This album embodies the quiet morning of contemplation. Soft sweet voices, incredible saxophone, immaculate vibes. I will be returning to this one many times. My favorite track was the girl from impanema, the first version.
Brian Eno
3/5
This album feels cinematic, like each track should be playing during a shot in an award winning film. This also means that the album can fade to the background though, which made it less engaging for a stand alone listen. It also felt like many of the songs ended before they should be done, which was unsatisfying. Favorite track was st elmos fire.
Air
2/5
This album is right at the edge of synthetic and electronic, but it also has two almost acoustic track. They give a lot of the same energy as daft punk but ... worse? Less? The whole thing was just a little forgettable. Favorite track was Kelly watch the stars.
The Isley Brothers
3/5
This was a creative and artistic set of songs, while still being a fun listen. I think I have heard multiple other songs sample this tracks. The melodies felt familiar. I don't think you should have 2 or 3 versions of a song on the same album though. It kind of took away from the back half of it. Favorite track was the highways of my life
Willie Nelson
2/5
This is classic folk music, and Willie has the perfect voice for it. This is a beautifully stripped down album, mostly guitar and voice. If you don't like folk or country though, this album will probably fall pretty flat. I just feel like there is better Willie Nelson out there. Favorite track was remember me.
Billy Bragg
3/5
What genre is this? Because I am lost. Folk-country-rock I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ The album is pretty and has some good tracks with especially pleasant harmonies. I do feel like I am missing some key piece of info to 'get it' though. Favorite track was hoodoo voodoo
Isaac Hayes
3/5
The music here is top notch, but the 10 minute wandering one-person conversation that occurs in the middle of the album really brings it down. My favorite track was walk on by, original version.
Depeche Mode
3/5
Dark and ethereal, this album feels like David bowie looks in the Labyrinth. Not a standout for me, but no strong criticisms either. Favorite track was strangelove.
John Prine
3/5
This album deserves better than the rating I am going to give it. It's a heartfelt reflection and critique of American culture and society, especially war culture, perfect for the American counter culture 1970s. The lyrics are poetic and occasionally darkly humorous. I just really don't like slow country. Favorite track was Sam stone
Aerosmith
5/5
Maybe I shouldn't be surprised because it's Aerosmith, but this album is straight bangers start to finish. Toys in the attic and you see me crying are IMO a perfect opening anx closing track. While this isn't my favorite genre of rock, I cannot find a reason to give this less than a perfect score. Truly the best of Aerosmith. My favorite track was Uncle salty
New York Dolls
3/5
Some bands make their name by having a singer with a non traditional voice. Aerosmith, queen, etc. These guys/girls don't have it. I think they're just bad at singing. It really holds the album back because the rest of their sound is great rock and roll. Just get a new singer I advise a half century late. Favorite track was trash.
The Who
3/5
This album was pretty unremarkable to me, good band, but nothing special. I don't even have a favorite track that stood out.
Beastie Boys
5/5
This was a surprise in the best way. I like beastie boys, but I mostly know them for the shouting. This album is far more diverse, with great guest rappers and numerous instrumental tracks. The tracks flow seamlessly between each other, and the mix of voice and instrumental tracks makes you feel like you are listening to an underground radio station. This album listened to as a whole is more than the sum of its parts, and I believe listening to it entirely is the best way to experience it. Favorite track was Do It
The Cure
3/5
This album seems to be in the same vein as depeche mode. Ethereal, but not quite as dark. The album is a bit too long and too slow for me, with no stand out tracks. Best track was their untitled track I guess
Elvis Costello & The Attractions
1/5
Truly no aspect of this album seems great to me. The vocals, the band, the lyrics were all adequate I guess, but how this is on a list of greats, even a list 1000 long is beyond me. It is saved from a 1 star score only because the music isn't actively bad, but at least 1 star albums are memorable, this one I will forget as soon as I finish. No favorite track. Ok I actually changed my mind, the music is bad, 1 star.
Iggy Pop
3/5
Kinda zoned out while listening, so no notes. Favorite track was lust for life.
Arcade Fire
4/5
I miss 2000s music. Arcade fire has a sound i associate with both modern indie rock and alt rock, twi genres I really love. This album is heartfelt and musically pretty simple, maybe it's getting a bit of a rating boost because it's the first album from the 2000s I have had, but I think its pretty good. Best played during late night cars drives, my favorite track was Neighborhood power out.
Wild Beasts
2/5
I think this is an album that if I gave fans my review, they would tell me I just don't get it. And I don't get it. The singer has incredible range and can change their timbre as well as their pitch, but they switch these aspects without warning which stresses me out. It's also just more horny than I am, like, ever. Favorite track was through the iron gate
Miles Davis
2/5
I think this might be too jazz. This whole album left me somewhere between lost and confused, I'm not sure if any of the songs had a beginning, middle, or end. Maybe I will come back in 2 decades and see if it grows on me.
Joanna Newsom
4/5
So this is damn good, it sucks it is not on Spotify. The album has lyrics like Bob Dylan and a singer like Joan Baez. Clever metaphors and rhyme schemes wander over a relaxing musical background that you would expect in a Renaissance tavern. A real hidden gem that deserves more listens. Our skin was my favorite track
3/5
This album starts as epic rock with almost synthetic undertones, sounding like a cyberpunk soundtrack. It then switches to alternating ballads and more traditional hard rock tracks. I liked the cyberpunk, I am sad the didn't stay in that space for the whole album. Shoutout to then for one of the best album openings i have heard though. Favorite track was map of the problematique.
Brian Eno
3/5
Adele
4/5
The Who
3/5
This is really fun, a little bit less pop version of the Beatles classic rock sound. It feels like young American summer life in the late sixties, which is weird to say of a band that is British I think. Still, can't fault a classic sound. Favorite song is please please please.
The Stooges
1/5
This feels like bro rock from another era. The singer to me is pretty mid and the album is horny in a cringy way. I think someone who wanted to be edgy and say they knew real rock might point toward this album, then tell you that actually men are really the more oppressed gender. Guitar was good though.
Primal Scream
3/5
How did this band get away with a name like primal scream? So, not what I expected, but not bad. This was easy to listen to, which had not been true of many other instrument dominant albums. I think you could give me an edible and this album and entertain me for a whole afternoon. Favorite track was slip inside the house.
Talking Heads
3/5
Paul McCartney and Wings
4/5
Great classic rock, Paul doesn't miss. Favorite track was let me roll it.
XTC
2/5
For there to be above average music some music must be below average. This band makes the normal distribution work. Not bad music, but the singer sounds like being rick rolled for 49 minutes, the instruments, especially the piano have some fun riffs, but its not enough to save it.
Elton John
4/5
Elton has one of the great iconic voices, up there with Freddie and Michael. I would listen to this even if it was fully acapella. I think Indian sunset might be a song that has aged out in the modern era, especially when sung by a British man. Still overall a great album. Favorite track was the titular madman across the water.
Jorge Ben Jor
3/5
The album starts better than it ends. It's not bad, but it's too much sound. The instruments overwhelm my brain and leave me anxious as I listen. Favorite song was meus filhos, meu tessoro.
Primal Scream
3/5
This album really felt like it might be 4 stars at the start, but it just didn't have a consistent feel. There are some great tracks in the first half. Also, I know I said this on the other album, but a band called primal scream should be contractually obligated to have one primal scream in each album. Favorite track was Get Duffy
Public Enemy
2/5
Nirvana
4/5
Arctic Monkeys
3/5
Favorite track was from the Ritz to the rubble
Fishbone
3/5
Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young
2/5
Hmmm about half this album is missing from Spotify, so its not getting a fair shake. Still what I heard did not impress. For being a supergroup this outing felt distinctly average, maybe the best if the content is missing ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Favorite track was almost cut my hair
Deep Purple
2/5
Look, this album doesn't deserve 2 stars, the music is pretty good. But 2 HOURS? Come one, I have a job, I have things to do, you got to work with me here. The track Lazy is a banger though, I would listen to that for 2 hours for sure.
Hole
3/5
This specificly sounds like it should be the soundtrack to a 2000s coming of age teen movie. Its pretty good, and nice to see more female led groups in this list. The lead singer has a bit of grunginess in her voice that i like. That said the album felt good but generic. Favorite track was reasons to be beautiful.
The Byrds
2/5
I guess not all of the music from the 60s was good. The breakup songs on this album have big incel energy. Chimes of freedom was the best track, but only by merit of ots message, not music
R.E.M.
3/5
Are REM ok? Who hurt them? This was melancholy but beautiful, I think basically all tracks were in a minor key. Favorite track was everybody hurts.
Tina Turner
3/5
Tina sounds like my aunt who smokes too much doing karaoke. That doesn't mean it was bad, but that is how it sounded. Favorite track was 1984.
The Gun Club
1/5
This might be the worst album I have ever heard. Definitely the worst on this list so far. It sounds like a band you would see in a house basement concert in the worst way possible. Worst track was cool drink of water blues
JAY Z
4/5
Man sometimes I forget how much beef there used to be in the rap world. A great album by one of the all time greats, Jay Z comes in with a chip on his shoulder and delivers. This isn't 5 stars just because I feel that he surpasses this work in his later releases. Favorite track I ain't know love.
The Allman Brothers Band
3/5
A little bit of rock, blues and jazz, this was a solid album. It probably deserves a higher rating, but sometimes you need to experience something live to really appreciate it, that was the case here, I would have preferred the radio edits I think. Favorite track was done somebody wrong.
Violent Femmes
3/5
Sounds like a precursor to punk or maybe grunge. Favorite track was gone daddy gone
Orange Juice
2/5
The person who wrote this book must have grown up in the 80s. Nostalgia has to be the explanation for so many middling albums from this decade making the list. Best track was hokoyo
Jefferson Airplane
4/5
Damn these guys have range. Some tracks were classic rock, some were blues, some were something softer with pretty vocal harmonies. The variety made the fairly long album pass enjoyably. Favorite track was white rabbit
Aimee Mann
3/5
I definitely expected something grungier based on the album cover. But this was a nice series of ballads about love, loss and the passage of time. Favorite track was could've been anyone
Public Enemy
4/5
One of the iconic protests albums, this album embodies the frustration of living in black communities in America. The industrial, siren-like samples throughout build your anxiety as a listener, helping you connect with the stress of everyday black life that public enemy wants you to feel. It's a battle, and you are in the trenches. This is not my style of music, but it is must listen. Best track is by the time I get to Arizona.
Thin Lizzy
3/5
Sadly most of this album was missing from Spotify. It seemed pretty cool. The boys are back in town was the best track
The Smashing Pumpkins
4/5
A complete rock album, I did not expect to like it this much. It generates a nostalgia for my teenage years despite releasing a decade and a half before I was a teen. I especially love their use of guitar as an almost drone tone, very calming. Favorite track was rocket
The Triffids
2/5
So this was a decent album with a couple tracks I really liked, though the song about the cromagnon mummy gave big indie basement band energy. Still, 2 hours is too long for any album to be. Favorite track was vagabond holes
Beach House
3/5
Nice soft rock album, they remind me alot of monsters and men. Then again, I also think monsters and men captured this sound better. Favorite track was 10 mile stereo
Jurassic 5
4/5
I am trying to be picky with my 5 star awards, but I think I might regret not giving one to J5 here. They just don't miss. Favorite track was day at the races
Ice T
3/5
This has the same unpolished urban feel of an NWA album, its too bad Ice T isn't a better lyricist
Moby Grape
3/5
Various Artists
2/5
I get that its a classic, but I don't know if it really deserves to be among all these greats... holiday music will always be low hanging fruit to me.
DJ Shadow
3/5
Some great instrumental soundtracks I am certain have been sampled in other artists I like. The more industrial tracks were a bit too intense for me though, bringing the rating down. Favorite track was what does your soul look like part one
Gary Numan
3/5
Alanis Morissette
3/5
I little whiny in a good way, really emotes that grungier rock of the 90s.
Dire Straits
3/5
Ok this was different, but not bad by any means. What genre is this? Soft rock? Groove rock? It wasn't the best workout track, which is when listened to it, but it was a vibe. Favorite track was the man's too strong.
Skunk Anansie
3/5
This album started so punk, it was awesome. I have no idea why they changed the 5 in the latter part of the album, it really could have been 5 stars if it kept the form of the first 5 songs. Favorite track was we don't need who you think you are.
Super Furry Animals
2/5
Pretty mid album. Boring enough that I have nothing good or bad to say about it, and no favorite track
Pretenders
3/5
This was the most 'rock' album I think I have ever heard. Not the best necessarily, but in my head this is what the classic rock genre sounds like. These would make great soundtracks to 80s films. Favorite track was the wait
Faust
2/5
I think this must be where you go when you're bored of jazz. Not bad music per se, but too out there for me to enjoy. It was difficult to follow the structure of the songs, and many of them approached sounding more like noise.
Meat Loaf
3/5
Decent classic rock album, a little too horny. Bat out of hell was my favorite track
The Beach Boys
2/5
It seems like the beach boys followed the Beatles into more experimental albums in the 70s, but less successfully. Favorite track was student demonstration time.
Run-D.M.C.
5/5
Damn this is a good album. Every track has a beat that is interesting and engaging, and the lyrics are clever and well crafted whether they are about big macs or black rights. Run-DMC are known as some of the best to ever do it, and for good reason, no notes. Favorite track was ItsTricky.
Shuggie Otis
2/5
There were a couple good tracks in this, but most of it bored me. I also feel like the tone was inconsistent. Favorite track was not available
Milton Nascimento
2/5
This felt like movie background music. Not bad, but too slow for me and not my style.
Aretha Franklin
4/5
Damn what a voice, this album is timeless. It loses a few points because alot of the songs sound the same, but that same song is pretty good. Favorite track was I never loved a man.
Led Zeppelin
3/5
Kinda expected to like this album more given the legendary status led zeppelin holds in rock. It's good, but there weren't alot of tracks that stood out to me. Favorite track was trampled under foot.
The Temptations
4/5
They sure can sing. Pretty groovy. Favorite track was I heard it through the grapevine.
Dirty Projectors
4/5
They have a bit of a Beatles in the modern era vibe. A bit eclectic, but I liked it. Favorite track was useful chamber.
Foo Fighters
5/5
So 5 out of 5, it's the fucking foo fighters. The definition of a rock band, just a pic of them in the old Oxford. Favorite track was weenie beenie
Nitin Sawhney
4/5
Damn what was this album? A mix of modern and what i think is Indian music came together in a really cohesive experience. Favorite track was tides.
Elvis Costello & The Attractions
4/5
This album is credit to just how much a singer can give a simple song life. The ballads slap from beginning to end. Favorite song is battered old bird
Björk
3/5
This album is all vibes. Favorite track was violently happy.
Paul Simon
3/5
Ok honestly better than I expected him to be as a solo act. It does sound a little like a guitar playing singer in some church retreat camp though. Graceland was my favorite track
Snoop Dogg
3/5
Snoop is unquestionably a generational star, but he isn't one of the greatest wordsmiths. Dre's producing does a lot to carry this album, which is decent, if a little misogynistic for modern times. Favorite track was Gz and hustlers
My Bloody Valentine
4/5
There is something grainy about this that will speak to any kid who grew up in the 90s. Perfect for a late night walk when you want to be feel like the protagonist of an indie drama. Has a bit of radiohead in it. Favorite track was blown a wish
Creedence Clearwater Revival
4/5
I did not realize how many songs I knew were from this album. Great classic rock, favorite track was travelin band.
Nick Drake
4/5
I didn't think I would like an album this quiet and introspective. However, there is simply so much going on in each peaceful track that it still captures your full attention. Favorite track was the titular bryter layter
Kacey Musgraves
3/5
A sweet album, Kacey has a wonderful voice. A little country for me. Favorite track was slow burn
Metallica
3/5
I dont listen to alot of metal, but I expected this to be... more metal? It was decent, but not quite the headband energy I thought Metallica would bring. Favorite track was dryers eve
Radiohead
3/5
Sly & The Family Stone
3/5
Leonard Cohen
2/5
I think Leonard might have depression. He has an incredible double bass voice, but that is really all the album has going for it. I hope he gets therapy, favorite track was make it darker.
Merle Haggard
1/5
So I think my mom might like Merle Haggard, but this guy is not for me. I think I would have been kinder if this album was from the late 70s or 80s, but this releasedin 2001. It's attitudes seem dated, and it's music is average.
Pixies
2/5
A bit grungy, but nothing about it stands out. Being forgettable is almost worse than being bad. Hang wire was my favorite track
Suede
3/5
Soft Machine
2/5
Why is jazzso weird man
Motörhead
2/5
This is music for people who wear wrap around sunglasses and leather jackets unironically, and it's 2 hours long.
Common
3/5
Kanye West
4/5
The Monkees
2/5
Sometimes I forget how bad pop music was during the early Beatles era. Luckily I have the monkeys to remind me.
k.d. lang
3/5
This album took a while to grow on me. It's a bit country for my tastes, but Langs blue vocals eventually win me over. Favorite track was black coffee.
Ramones
3/5
The Ramones have pick me girl energy, they aren't bad though. Favorite track was Now I wanna sniff some glue.
Booker T. & The MG's
3/5
I swear I already had this album.
Lynyrd Skynyrd
4/5
Damn I expected these guys to be overhyped, I was wrong. I expected the guitar, but the piano player here was also top notch. Great classic rock. Favorite track was poison whiskey
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
4/5
This sounds like a,musical theater score. I like it. Favorite track is cannibal hymn
Pink Floyd
4/5
It's pretty damn good, but not even pink Floyd can live up to the hype this album holds in its 'legendary' status. I wish someone had told me it influenced cowboy beebops soundtrack alot, I might have listened sooner. Favorite track was the great gig in the sky
The Slits
2/5
Off-key and offbeat by design, I couldn't really get into it though. Favorite track was typical girl
Girls Against Boys
1/5
This album being on the list has to be a joke. It's fuck boy wanna be metal. I sounds like an incels high-school band, it quality and content.
Solomon Burke
3/5
Kinda forgettable, not bad not great. Sounds like my grandparents music
Linkin Park
5/5
I grew up on this album. Early internet days of over the top music videos and amvs to the sound of Chester's iconic voice. I miss Linkin Park. Favorite track is crawling.
Tim Buckley
5/5
Damn what a bard. I can't think of any better way to describe Tim Buckley or this album. Great lyrics, an achingly emotional voice and instrumental backing that makes the whole album just a little mystical, this feels like a singer plucked from a fantasy tavern. Favorite track is Once I Was
Animal Collective
3/5
Aretha Franklin
4/5
I'm not sure Aretha has bad songs, like any of them.
The Zutons
4/5
Just really fun alt rock i think? It's bouncy and groovy. Also I think alt j stole the opening pressure point. Favorite track was you will you won't
Arcade Fire
3/5
808 State
2/5
Not really my taste for sure. The songs feel unfinished, like they are supposed to have lyrics or a melody come in eventually, but they never do. Great beats though. Favorite track was magic dream
The Go-Go's
3/5
Solid album, nothing that really stands out as exceptional though. Just good rock. Favorite track was we got the beat
Lorde
3/5
T swift for people who say they are " too cool" for T swift. This album embodies the highs and lows of a young summer relationship. Very standard pop though, I kinda expected better from lord. Favorite track was Sober
Q-Tip
3/5
This album has a sound from before its time in a good way. If you grew up on 90s hip hop this will be a nice throwback to that sound. Not quite as good as the MCs it pays homage to though. Favorite track was life is better
Steve Winwood
2/5
I just do not get along with the 80s. There's nothing terrible here, but it just feels like they forgot how to make good music for a decade.
Alexander 'Skip' Spence
3/5
Ok this album feels 'cool' on a way I can't quite identify. I want to get a beer with skip. Not quite my style, but probably better than the 3 stars I'm giving it. Favorite track was books of moses
ZZ Top
5/5
This is the platonic ideal of electric guitar. 5 stars, no skips, no notes. Favorite track was La Grange LIVE
The United States Of America
1/5
Somehow this falls into a music uncanny valley. It almost sounds like music, but it isn't.
Joni Mitchell
2/5
Beautiful singing, pretty mediocre songwriting. This flight tonight was my favorite track
Neil Young
3/5
Nirvana
5/5
The local radio station in my hometown used to invite bands to do an all acoustic cover of one of their hits, and play it only on our station. These were almost always my favorite version of all of the songs I heard there. This whole album captures that same stripped down, pure feeling. Favorite new track was lake of fire
Nina Simone
5/5
One could argue that it is impossible to truly know who was the greatest singer to ever live, history is simply too long. One could also argue that it is Nine Simone, and they would be right.
Muddy Waters
3/5
A fun album that sounds like a southern swanky club. All of the songs do sound the same though. Favorite track was crosseyed cat
The Electric Prunes
2/5
I am reminded of the many basement concerts listening to my friend's great new band. There's nothing wrong with this album, I just dont think they're very good at music...
The Beach Boys
2/5
Black Flag
2/5
A bit too hard on the punk and scream for me. Cool album, just too rough. Rise above was my favorite track.
Ananda Shankar
1/5
Not my jam, the sitar cadence makes me anxious, and I don't like religious music.
Talking Heads
3/5
I guess its 50 years too late to find a new lead singer. I really like the band, but the lead singer just does not vibe with me. Could be 4 stars with different vocals. Favorite track is no compassion.
Grant Lee Buffalo
3/5
Not a bad ballad rock album, but nothing really stood out. Favorite track was America is Snoring
Sleater-Kinney
5/5
This album rocks. It has begs for a live performance, authentic, driving and hair shaking. Great guitar, drums and an incredible lead vocalist. Could not pick a favorite track, but dig me out, buy her candy and turn it on are all great.
The Incredible String Band
1/5
I feel like I am being pranked. This is bad music; like, objectively bad music. Dont tell me itw 'experimental', it doesnt sound good. I am lost on how this was ever allowed on this list. It's not even good religious music. Do not lose 40 minutes of your life here like I did. Skip this one. Trust me.
Amy Winehouse
3/5
One of the all time great voices. The album's topics didn't really land with me, I just don't think I have ever been that crazy about a guy. Also what was that 'its fine that I cheated' song?
Favorite track was in my bed.
Lou Reed
3/5
Is Lou ok? This album feels more like sad poetry set to music. He's clearly working through some stuff. Favorite track iw men of good fortune
Bruce Springsteen
3/5
A great country rock album from before the genre was quite so... country rock. A surprisingly melancholy album, speaking to a small town image of the country that was on the decline, noticeable even 40 years ago. Favorite track was Bobby Jean
Fatboy Slim
3/5
This is a fun album, it a bit of a brain rot kind of way. Incredible mixing from a largely pre digital time. The beats are funky and fun. Electronic has never been my favorite genre though. Favorite track is the titular you've come a long way
Kelela
2/5
Paul Simon
2/5
A day in the life of Paul Simon, this album seems like an honest accounting of his authentic life. However, his life isn't really interesting enough to make a compelling album... favorite track was Duncan, the demo version
Sugar
3/5
This feels like every sitcom from the 90s. Not necessarily a bad thing. Favorite track was Changes.
Simon & Garfunkel
4/5
Simon and Garfunkels greatest hits was the first CD I ever bought myself, so I'm not going to be able to ignore nostalgia on this one. I think I can sing every track from memory. Favorite track is baby driver
D'Angelo
3/5
Im more here for the instruments than the vocalist. A decent love album, though the "caught them cheating" song still sounding like a sex ballad was hilarious. Favorite track was Crusin
Deee-Lite
3/5
U2
3/5
Mid rock album, not bad, not great. Favorite track was One
The Teardrop Explodes
1/5
So this album started as mediocre 80s music, and it really went down from there. Definitely not my favorite decade, and the 2nd half of this album was truly ass.
Frank Sinatra
2/5
Not bad, but it didn't capture me. My favorite track they did was a cover of the original... never a good sign
Ryan Adams
4/5
There's real mileage in doing the simple things well. A little country, a little folk, little rock, this album may not define a genre, but it does a great job of being a great breakup album. It will get in your ear, even the harmonica. Favorite track was Amy
Neil Young
4/5
I was not familiar with you game Neil, I apologize. At times soulful, at times orchestral, this album captures a unique melancholy of lost friends, and lost time. Favorite track was Alabama
Duran Duran
3/5
This is what i imagine everything in the 80s sounded like. Synths and hypermasculine action films. Favorite track was hold back the rain
The xx
4/5
This album doesn't have a message, it has a mood. Im not sure what it is they captured, but i remember it. The early summer night was warm, and the stars were very bright. Favorite track was Stars
Franz Ferdinand
3/5
A solid alt rock album. Really straight down the middle for the genre, head bobbing fun.
Favorite track was Cheating On You, even if the subject matter is not great
Jimi Hendrix
3/5
Sadly, there are definitely better Hendrix albums. Luckily, its still Hendrix
Beatles
3/5
To me, this really does not hold up against the Beatles other work. Outside of the well know hits, the album is just very forgettable pop. Luckily the least interesting Beatles album is still decent. Favorite track was For No One
The Verve
2/5
This was lackluster alt rock for me. Nothing terrible, but you have to bring something special when you are on a list like this. Favorite track was weeping willow
Todd Rundgren
3/5
Herbie Hancock
3/5
Surprisingly approachable for such an iconic jazz album. The song length would take getting used to, but they were easy to listen to. Favorite track was watermelon man
Raekwon
4/5
How is everyone from wu tang so talented? This is an iconic rap album. What really stands out are the sample selections for each track, each gives a unique flavor and sound. The lyrics are face paced and dense so its hard to listen to in the background though. Favorite track was Wu-gambinos
The Flaming Lips
2/5
Eh, this fell flat for me. I feel like I would need a little drugs, not much, just a touch, to really vibe with it.
Baaba Maal
3/5
Not bad, very easy to just casually listen to in the background. Favorite track was Djam Leelii
The Temptations
3/5
Butter smooth, great for a chill listen on an easy day. Favorite track was mother nature
The White Stripes
3/5
Jerry Lee Lewis
3/5
I think this is the definition of boogie, the piano is the stand out performer. Favorite track was Money
Red Hot Chili Peppers
4/5
There are no bad tracks in this album. More than an experience with really high highs, this stands out by having raised the floor. A great alt rock experience, though I gravitate to their quieter tracks. Favorite track was Otherside, or maybe Porcelain
John Lennon
2/5
Im not sure this guy can really write songs without help. This definitely fell short of my expectations for such an iconic artist. The lyrics in particular stood out as particularly below par, and just a bit amateur
The Clash
3/5
Somehow this is the most British band I have ever heard. Just a straight shooting rock album, pretty fun. Favorite track was Londons Burning
Eminem
4/5
Very intentionally Eminem's most provocative album. In this he struggles with his newfound status as a superstar. In particular, he questions the public discourse that accused his music of creating violent shooters on schools. Ultimately however, he points toward the media landscape as the primary culprit, saying their obsession with the hypermasculine homophobic caricature of slim shady, rather than the real artist, is to blame. He then proves his own point by turning that caricature up to 11 fir the whole album, and still having it go platinum. Favorite track is Stan
Janis Joplin
3/5
Normally I adore powerful singers, but this album was very average to me, I am not quite sure what it is missing, but there are better options
my favorite track was half moon.
Love
3/5
Favorite track was live and let live
Minor Threat
2/5
Electric Light Orchestra
3/5
Epic, operatic, probably better than i have rated it. Favorite track was big sky
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
1/5
So this isn't musically terrible, I just kind of hate it.
Frank Black
2/5
MC Solaar
3/5
Favorite track was a temps partiel
Black Sabbath
