Popular Reviews

Aqualung by Jethro Tull

It's pretty easy to listen to, but a bit weird. Feels like Zeppelin with less Muddy Waters and more Tolkien - or like the progrock side of Zep. Title track slaps but it's played out; I really liked some of the grooves like "up to me", but a lot of it just feels like Jimmy Page b-sides, and the flute never stops feeling out of place, which is weird.

Not a big jam band guy, but this is decent. A little weird, though. I recommend psychedelics.

Dec 29 2024

I'm sure this was groundbreaking at the time, but it's a worse version of huey lewis/peter gabriel/paul simon. Spanish dancer sounds like an SNL skit.

When I was like 10, my father told me "Papa Was a Rollin' Stone" was one of the greatest songs ever written. I accepted it as a child often does, unquestioningly. It went in all of my greatest hits mixes, and I occasionally would bring it out around my friends, to show off my musical acumen, as I am a child of the 80s and many of them were unfamiliar. Now, with the wisdom of decades, and my own children becoming teenagers, my belief in the truth of that statement is stronger. Great song. Incredible engineering. As a recording, as a performance, I don't think I could come up with a GOAT list that didn't include it. Rest of the album slaps too.

I really liked these songs musically, but Jesus the lyrics are cringe. Problem with calling out specific politics is that it doesn't age well.
