Super fun party record
Music is ok. I’ve been listening to these songs my whole life. Can’t wait until Gary Glitter pops up here
Tremendous voice. Gives you chills!
this is good but not my thing
1-Star Albums (32)
All Ratings
Tremendous voice. Gives you chills!
I like this but only in small doses
Killer Album. Two stand outs in When Doves Cry and Let’s Go Crazy. Consistently good.
Ok album. Some good stuff but woof some of these lyrics
Drag queens to the front
Tremendous band. Powerful stuff.
Best song: She’s so heavy
Not for me
Maybe three good songs on this.
Prefer live at Folsom
Kinda not my thing
Great album. Not in my top 5 Bad Seeds albums though
Even when you don’t feel like it, you can’t help but be moved by the words and different chords
Obviously some excellent songs here but geez a lot of this album is boring
Doesn’t even have West End Girls on it. Not an album I can say I enjoyed. Jealousy is probably the one I’d rate highest
Genius album. Still powerful 60 years later
An all time classic
Pretty good album but if I hadn’t heard it before I died, I probably wouldn’t have cared
Fairly pleasant Sunday morning music
Not my thing
I can appreciate why this is interesting but not my thing
I can appreciate why this is interesting but not my thing
Great album! Took a while to grow on me but I like it on a summer Sunday afternoon
I can see how this was influenced by sounds that I do like, Trip-Hop, for instance. But this isn't for me.
This is actually some good Dylan-esque song writing and playing. Not bad at all.
Handful of ok songs, handful of godawful songs
Great riffs. Somehow not hitting the same heights as Back in Black for me
Why this one and not Fat of the Land?
Fuck this guy. This might be good, but I'll never listen to it.
Every note of this is burned into my cortex.
Have to be in the mood for this
Yeah boi!
Great album
This is not bad. Some great songs
Handful of songs that are alright. Really not my thing
Better than I expected. Never really like What’s Golden. I think I didn’t really like Charli 2na’s voice but on some of these tracks, he’s great.
Fairly anodyne jazz.
Classic album. A statement of intent.
This is still good. Prescient observations.
Excellent album!
This is not very good
Great voice. Not really my thing though
Dig
Great album. Solid 8.5 out of 10. Clear highlights with Cinnamon Girl and Down by the River but also Everybody Knows this is Nowhere and Running Dry are excellent.
Zappa-esque. Funny in parts. Not my thing
Solid album.
Somehow these songs are part of my DNA from my early 20’s even though I do not recall being particularly taken with this album. It was just part of the background, a cassette in the car, a CD in the bedroom, in a way that defies explicit listening.
Songs aren’t great here
Not my thing
This rocks. Pretty Things are awesome.
Weird and dark album, but great songs
This is not great. Some of the Latin stuff is cool but I dislike the party hip hop stuff intermixed with it.
Mediocre power pop. About two or three decent songs.
Surprising and compelling album.
I can only appreciate this intellectually
This is goofy shit
This is ok. I can see why Radiohead are a great band but geez they bore me. One thing that was interesting was how much The Drones and TFS were influenced by this album
This is great for the first 2/3rds and sorted if loses steam a bit at the end
South side starts alright but that bass tone is farty as hell and makes me feel bad. The song also gets hell goofy. Roundabout - a meme punchline - what can you say. Oh and then I realised there are more than 4 songs on this. Are they all 10 minutes long? Thankfully no. 5% of nothing is sort of Zappa-esque I hate this
Not a fan of this album
This is an ok album. I prefer their earlier stuff
This is actually excellent
Ok yes I get it
Looking for the future, the world is my aim
Definitely digging this
Not bad when it’s riffing out
This is pretty good
Better than i expected
This was cool. Some great classic rock
Then Belly Full is great as is the rest
I dug this
Excellent album
This starts so strong it blows through the slightly weaker section halfway straight through to the killer end
Great North African album
Not as good as it thinks it is
Fantastic album. This is one I didn’t like as much when it came out because it didn’t pack the punch of Let Love In. But in time it’s revealed itself to have some lovely songs
I actually dig this a bit
I actually dislike this album even though I was a huge Nirvana fan at 14. This album was flogged to death after Kurt’s suicide and for as interesting as it is, it suffers by not being the full force of the band. Some great covers here
Not my fave Bowie but it’s still Bowie. And it would have been impossible to follow up Ziggy Stardust so this is pretty good
Great album
This is trash
Starts strong. Some stone cold classics here but ends fairly proggy and weak
This is weird and strange, fitting for an ex genesis member. Fucking hate the song Solsbury Hill. Don’t really enjoy many of the rest
Fairly excellent album
I was surprised I hadn’t listened to this before but then when I did, I understood why. It’s morrisseys voice but doesn’t have the magic of the smiths.
Pretty hippy. Guinevere is a good song
Radiohead lite
Not for me
One of the best
Definitely a classic. For some reason, this wasn’t on my radar back in when I was listening to tons of wu. But this is rightfully one of the best
This is pretty cool.
Not a fan
Fantastic album. Hadn’t heard this before
Great albums mostly good songs
Not bad national album
Got some hits on here but the rest doesn’t hold up
This is probably one of my least fave Bad Seeds albums. Good but not in comparison to the others
I have tried to get into this album so many times but here I am a sunny day, feeling quite happy and this album is brilliant, like everyone says. Love it
Great album. You can hear the influence of this on Queens of the Stone Age for instance and countless other bands
Good stuff
Some of this is great
Nice background music
In the goal of constant reinvention, they forgot to write good songs
I guess this is new wave?
Not my thing but bonus cause 7/11 is a banger
Ok...probably thinks too highly of itself
Good stuff but some of this is damn goofy
This is laid back and good. Lyrics on Beyond Comprehension are solid
Sound of my childhood
This is far from the best doors album so I can only hope that the other doors albums are on this list somewhere. There are maybe three great songs here and a handful of filler.
I've never listened to this. Now I know why
This is ok. Can’t really get into it
This is good.
Great album
Great album. Not my fave sonic youth but has White Cross which is a 10/10 song
This is not good
Stevie is good. I like Stevie, but not all the damn time.
Some decent rockabilly here
This is not my fave Nick Cave but you can’t help being moved and that’s enough
Great album. Not a fan of the cure cover surprisingly
An ok album. Handful of great songs but few standouts
Five stars for Masters of War but the other tracks are great as well
Over rated
Now this is the stuff
Masters at work
Good reggae
Great album
Somehow I’ve heard this a lot at very periods in my life. It’s good
This pretty good but definitely of its time and this album is missing some absolute classics
Sublime
Obvious 5 star classic
Not as good as Gish
A few good highlights here but some pretty mediocre stuff
Very cool album
Lame
Not into it
I dig this
Love this stuff
This is all ok but Summertime is the one
Pretty sleepy supermarket music
I truly dislike this band
This album is pretty good. Especially the first two tracks
Classic rock to me
Power pop classic
Look, this ain't my fave; the songs have too much of a gospel/crooner influence and there's not need for the Beatles cover, but goddamn, it's Bowie. It's good. Worth it for Fame alone.
This jams. Never heard this when it came out (except for Girls From Mars) but I would have liked it.
Not my favourite thing
Classic collection of great songs. Not all perfect but damn, Guns of Brixton alone
Good album. Couple of classics but not my fave
Perfect album
Not terrible
Rawk! I do remember this being more interesting
This is ok but I never liked this as much as people seem to think I should
Classic album. There's some hits on here, some real weirdness too
Used to have this on vinyl
An ok U2 album
Hardcore yes
A lot of this sounds the same to me, but there’s an earnestness that I appreciate and lyrics like this blow me away And the cities of Europe have burned before And they may yet burn again And if they do I hope you understand That Washington will burn with them
Let's get funked up
I'm not a huge Brucey fan. Some good songs on here.
Sick album. Love this.
Great album! Really original stuff
I liked this much better than i expected
Bit of filler on this
Pretty fun; some classics here
I find this music very very dull
I should like this more than I do. The britishness of it gets to me after a while. The songs themselves have great parts but jump around a bit too much.
Nice
Incredible harmonies. Really great voice and a tragic loss.
Pretty good if somewhat forgettable album
Starts super strong but is then a bit too trad
Ok overall
Some solid gold classics but not as good as violator
Great album. Some real classics. Not one I’ve listened to alot
Much better than 90% of other Zappa I have heard
Pretty solid overall.
Ok not my fave thing in the world. Sometimes the lyrics are touching
Pretty great album. Classic new wave
Ooh nihilistic. Still ok but the abrasiveness is less interesting as I get older.
Not the best doors album but there’s a few great songs
Superb
Love this album but there’s some lesser songs on side b. First two songs are great though
Fantastic album! Bonus points for the title track
Not bad
Wonderful album
Hmm this aged ok
Not a huge fan of this beyond the two songs I know
This ok but this sort of lover boy music makes me want to punch the singer in the face
Music is ok. I’ve been listening to these songs my whole life. Can’t wait until Gary Glitter pops up here
This is so good. 4 songs of greatness. Recognised Walk on By from the Wu-Tang album The W.
Love creedence! Almost a 5 star album
Uh no thanks
Some songs are sort of standard bluegrass if not better than average but some songs hit you in the soul. The chords and voice coming on like KD Lang or Cortez the Killer, Parting Glass, Mykonos. Just perfect
Woo
In the right mood, this is pretty good
Couple nostalgia hits but pretty repetitive
Gloriously ramshackle but more genius hits than misses and an extra star for Flood
Beautiful album
No
This is an ok album. Sort of background dinner music. Not something I'm super keen on but ok.
Great fun album
1/3 genius, 2/3rds children’s music
There are maybe two good songs on this
Great album
Didn’t like this as much as I thought I would
Listenable but the novelty wears thin
Really not a fan of this
Fela still king
Great classic album that I sort of ignored back in the day but deserves attention
Classic influential, still rips
This slaps. The bass tone on 21st century schizoid man is so good
Some great classic songs here. Grinder could be Big Black
This is really not my thing
Know nothing about this artist. Sick dub on the first song but the voice is not hitting me. The lyrics are not great. Nothing really sticking out to me
Clearly some innovative guitar rock. But there are some very weird choices on otherwise good jams here. And then there are just stone cold classics. So good but not perfect
Love the song Octopus. The other songs are ok
This ain’t that good. Hotel California is standout
Not a single bad song on here
This album is killer but Mannish Boy, goddamn
This was better than I expected. Laid back sort of psychedelic. A few skippable tracks but yeah good
Excellent album
Add this to written on my brain forever albums
An ok if forgettable baroque pop album. I just can’t get into Alex Turner but this is ok background music
It’s good but I’m still unconvinced
This is good but not something I’d seek out and I honestly wished it would finish sooner.
For as twee as this is, I really love a lot of the songs on it
Pretty good folk rock
Some of this is throwaway but some of this slams
This is not in the same calibre as the first three albums despite having 3-4 good songs
This is ok but…not super memorable
Fantastic album. Some absolute classics
This is all of culture now so…
One of the few ska albums that is really really great
This album rips
I like a lot of this but it’s a bit overwrought
Probably my fave stones album. Not a bad song and an above average number of outstanding tracks
Not even my fave but still 5/5
Gorgeous album. Never really appreciated it until recently
This is ok. Did not wow me but I liked it
This reminds me of being 14 so much
This is ok
Classic
Some affecting songs
This is quite good.
Baroque country pop not really catching my ear
Kick ass
Very cool
Some great fun songs
Some ok songs
Three great songs, highly produced, not hitting the spot for me
Pretty cool psychedelia
Not a bad song on this album
this is good but not my thing
Not as good as Rumours
This is ok country rock. The Band has never really been my thing.
Bullshit
Wonderful album. Part IV!!
Good
Wasn’t into this one
This is pretty good. I would need to be in the mood for it.
Classic
One of the best albums ever made. Wire are pop genius
Lots of great ideas here. Very influential. Borderline unlistenable in parts
Production on this has always been janky but it’s the Stooges. Not as good as Raw Power but damn it’s the Stooges
I don’t rate this. Bit dull for me
Surprised that I like this
Dull sub radiohead
Ok never a big fan
Lovely album
No
So good
This must be an acquired taste that I have not acquired
Pretty average
I dig this alot
This is just ok
I didn’t really gel with this
This is energetic and fun but I heard this once years ago and don’t need to hear it again
Whipping post is ok
Liked this better than expected
Makes me wonder how many Neil Young albums are on this list because this one isn’t even in the top 5
Sort of ok
Their singles are better than their albums
Always thought there were a handful of ok songs on this album
Classic
Great album
I like this but the next album is better
Not really my thing
Kinda fun but a bit annoying
Really great album clearly paving the way for ideas that come out in Bitches Brew. Or not. What do I know?
Nice
Pretty good synth pop album
Great album
This rocks
Classic
I had assumed that I hadn't ever heard this before, but it turns out that I knew a bunch of the catchier songs. I'm not a huge fan. It is ok. Sort of a one trick pony.
This isn't really for me and even though it's good, I just wouldn't listen to it
Not my thing
This is sort of interesting world music vibes crossed with early hip hop
Lovely lovely album. Wish I was in a mood to listen to jazz more often
Digging this a lot
Ok country stuff. Not my thing
I dig this and it holds up, but Franti’s a bit dubious now no?
Amazing album
This is kind of good but hits like an Austin Power’s novelty album
Not bad. Humpty Dance has nostalgic appeal and is still fun
Some great tunes on this one but some filler also
Interesting electronics/trip-hop
Expected to hate this. Was better than I thought. A bit repetitive
This ok. Not really my thing
Brilliant album for the most part
Contender for best grunge album
While there is nothing immediately offensive about this, I don’t dig it. It doesn’t move me
Somewhat mediocre Sabbath album with some real standouts on it. Supernaut again presaging doom/stoner rock. All hail
I’m not a Radiohead fan but this album is very very good
Pretty good! I’ll give it a 3
Wonderful albun
Some exceptional songs and some songs which are merely pretty good
This is ok. A little rough in places
Wow really not my thing
Some stinkers on here but some classics as well. The following albums are better
Bonus point for Sad Skinhead but great album overall
Funny little album
This album is ok
Oddly maudlin for me
Really enjoyed their first album and avoided this one because I was ho hum on the single and then they go in a different direction after this album, but I dig this. It’s pretty good for the most part
Classic jazz album.
No
Ew
Love this one
I do have a soft spot for this and This Years Model. Phenomenal bass playing
Classic
Lovely album
Very of its time but I could see listening to this had I been born 30 years earlier
Good album. Jimi is fantastic when he’s fantastic and then there’s the other stuff
This is pretty good garage rock. A little dated but good in small doses
I liked this less than I expected
Lovely album. Not quite as memorable as some other albums
Lovely album
I liked this less than I expected
Classic album. The first four tracks are perfect
Almost perfect
Beautiful album
This is really good
Some great songs here
I like this better than the Arctic Monkeys but it’s generally the same thing
Once upon a time it would have been perfect but I see some cracks now but only just
Great but not the best
Impeccable album
This is pretty good; Robert Wyatt’s voice is an acquired taste. The longer instrumental jams are better
This is great
Lovely
Not bad but not my thing
Not bad overall
Not my thing
Really great voice. Title track clearly a highlight
The first track is surprisingly good. When the singer comes in the album gets a little locked into a certain time frame and is ok but not my thing
Great punk album. Nothing standing out as particularly memorable but I dig this
Some of this is great and some of it is a little goofy
This album slaps
It took a long time for me to understand what was going on here but I’ve developed a deep appreciation of pavement and this is one of the best
Pretty good. Less catchy than some contemporaries
Classic, strange, moody
Last good US album. Lots of good songs here some forgettable
Classic album.
Wonderful. Loved it
Very enjoyable
Love theme and the consistency. This is something I might listen to once a decade
Love the specials
Great album
Great album with some great songs
Not bad if a little overwrought
Side 1 is great. Side 2 is two very sappy filler songs and then one classic.
Fantastic country and western album! Timeless
Perfect album no notes
This really isn’t for me
Kick ass album
This was cool
I can understand why this is good but the voice is not one that resonates with me
Pretty good album. Freebird is a killer song
4 just for the title track and Mercy Mercy Me. Rest of the album is good but not quite up to those singles
This is pretty sick overall. There are some clear highlights. I’m not a huge fan of this sort of literal story telling in music but I dig this
Super fun party record
Quite a good album
Great album. Some songs scratch that Leonard Cohen itch. Accidentally had Cripple Creek on repeat and didn’t even notice it had been playing for 20 minutes
Love this outlaw country stuff
Brilliant weird menacing plus some cool riffs
Bleak, excellent
The master at work
Much better than i expected but very samey
First off, I have heard and like some of these songs but I expected to hate this album. First track, not off to a great start. Yes meets Radiohead…second song pretty lame. Supermassive Black Hole I kind of dig. Next song is video game music. Then blah and blah. I skipped to Knights of Cydonia which is alright
This is awful
Incredibly dull music
Very cool stuff. Gets better as the album goes on
This is a great album but only about 70% of the songs really soar. The rest are just ok, highlights are Nighttrain, Rocket Queen, and then the obvious iconic singles
Very boring
Superb
This is ok but every song sounds the same
Few really good track here.
Oh this rocks
Pretty boring peppered with a few solid gold classics.
Good album with some great songs. Bargain is a real revelation here
Great album. Track 3 a clear highlight. And the drumming on every track is outstanding
This is ok. Why did it get so much praise though?
Simultaneously sounds like parts of Eno and probably more so Byrne (Talking Heads) without being as compelling as either
This starts really strong and then descends into cabaret
Fairly dull singer song writer stuff
Thought I’d find this more interesting and compelling than I did
This was so much fresher when it came out. The next couple of albums were better and MIA has since gone off the deep end
One of the worst albums so far
I love this music
This is perfectly ok as an album. I would have loved this in the late 90's
This is great
Not really moving me
Totally ok album but borderline filler here
Not super memorable but generally good
Fantastic album. Almost perfect
Pretty country album
She’s ever so good but this one isn’t my fave, despite having a high quantity of 10/10 songs
In the years since, I find this to be pretty diminished (even though I was only passingly familiar with it at the time). Stomp Clap Hey for the art crowd, skewed by sex allegations, and general monotony of the songs here. There are still a couple that make the grade.
So far ahead of its time and out of time. Just insanely creative and outstanding.
This is ok, better than I thought it would be.
Boring MOR rock.
Didn’t mind this. Echoes of Leonard Cohen surprisingly in the first song
Cool stuff
Three stars for the three classics on this album. The rest is filler and sounds massively dated
This is great actually. I prefer the tracks I hadn’t heard before. The mix of PE/James Brown breaks and 90’s rap is cool.
This is really good. Shades of Echo and the Bunnymen, moodists, teardrop explodes, early U2.
Classic album
Not a spectacular Bowie album but a couple of great tunes
Always wanted to like this on principle but it’s not for me
Fell asleep. Admittedly I was a bit tired but this is pretty monotonous
This is fine. Definitely “happy” sounding. Not incredibly compelling music though
Some good Sunday morning stuff here
Not my thing
This was a very dull lisen
Not my thing
All-timer
Sick
Hey Daddio
Sweet sort of Kate Bush-reminiscent songs that sometimes go on a touch too long
Pretty grating. Not for me
Good stuff
This is ok
Surprisingly good.
I want to like this more just because it's the Bad Brains
Very not my thing
Never heard this. Very much enjoyed it
Better than I expected by a mile
Great album
A fave
Great album
60's Baroque Pop; heavy Beatles-influence. Not bad, but somewhat forgettable.
Very much not my thing
Pretty fun
Too good!
Not a particularly compelling album but some really good songs and great production
Consistently great
This slaps. No notes
Pretty funny to list this next to the Stooges as this is fairly of its time and dull and the Stooges is everything this isn’t
Great first shot across the bow
Yeah great jazz album from this era
Pretty cool album with an obvious classic
Love Sinead
Simultaneously maybe too baroque but also very emotionally touching lyrics.
This kind of sucks. Ain't Talking Bout Love is sick becuase the Minutemen covered it and demolished it! Obviously his band starts writing better songs but yeah, this is kind of a snooze. Jamie's Cryin bops.
Not my thing
This is good in the way Elvis Costello is usually pretty interesting but not exceptional
Pretty great, original album even if it’s not my first pick to give a spin
Not a huge fan of this but he's a talented dude for sure
Generally I think the Smiths work better as a singles band than an album band but this is a good one
This slaps for the most part
Didn’t do it for me though some of the songs have a twinkling of an influence on war on drugs maybe
I like this better thank anything else they’ve ever done but some of this is not great. Still some cool songs tho
Classic all-timer!
This was pretty dull. There’s got to be better choices than this
Cute renfair folk. Not bad
I dug this.
Not bad at all
Love missy. Lot of filler on this album
Cool experimental music
This stinks
Brilliant
Takes about three songs to kick in with Fuzzy, which has a great melody and some surprisinly cool minor key chord changes. Great song that unlocks the rest of the album. Wish You Well has a great verse but backs off in the chorus. The Hook is a great song in the vein of the Rolling Stones; maybe a b-side off of Sticky Fingers. Definite shades of influence on The Verve and later bands. Great vocal on Stars N'Stripes. Dixie Snoring interpolates Sweet Home Alabama is sort of ho hum. But then Grace is fantastic. Really enjoyed this once it got going. I'd love to pin down who they remind me of. I can hear the link to REM and Wilco but that's not really it...
Really thought I wasn’t going to like this but it grew on me.
Seriously compelling if you can give it the time
Sort of not my thing. Maybe in a different mood
A rare top tier album that I never heard of and never would have heard of without this list.
This one hurts as I dig this track and this album but AB is a problem
Lots of classics here
The man’s got it
This is great
Side A of this is pretty good. Side B less so (still good but doesn't reach the heights of there coming albums)
Ok but pretentious
Love the album but I feel like they were still finding their feet on some of these tracks
Beautiful album. I must have downloaded this without written on the forehead. I find that song slightly out of place as a result hut still can’t be faulted
Hell yeah
Great album with some classic tracks
I like this album but there are a lot of prison rape references that don’t sit well
Maybe two good songs here
Pretty dated sounding. Nothing particularly standout
Middle of the road snooze rock
Not my thing but ok
This is nice country album before country went up its own ass
Fun sounds
I don’t know. XTC clearly have written some great pop songs but they’re not on this album, which sounds like Bo Burnham signing Elvis Costello. There are some standouts but does Dear God warrant inclusion on this list? Earn Enough For Us is also good
Killer albun
Really have a hard time getting into this sort of thing
This is a bit too House of Blues for me
I like this better than some of the other albums. Intruder is an interesting song.
