Find it hard to stay engaged.
Can't see myself every returning to this.
'One' alone makes this a three star album, the rest of the tracks have enough to bring it up to a four.
Respect gets this three stars, and that's where it stays.
I've always loved how unhinged this album is
I had always had a bee in my bonnet about this album after Pitchfork rated B.O.B the best song of the 2000's (I used to care about those things). I didn't like that song then, and I don't particularly now, but the rest of the album is pretty great, and Ms. Jackson is a classic.
I was not familiar with this artist at all. Kinda why we do this right? It was an interesting listen, maybe a little too all over the place?
Really struggled with this one. I think the genre is just not for me. I enjoy a lot of post-rock, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Mogwai etc - agenre that was certainly influenced by this stuff.
Wow. I had completely forgot that this artist existed, but back in the late 90s 'More Bits and Pieces' made it into my winamp. It was fun then and this album is fun now (once i could find it)
I really enjoyed this, I know of Kraftwerk but hadn't sat and listened to an album. Fun fact - I didn't know 'The Model' was a Kraftwerk song, I only knew the Big Black version.
Wow. This is awful. Completely and utterly awful, from start to end. I had wondered if I would give any one star reviews to a list of supposed great albums, and on day 11 here we are. I can't believe how bad this was, in every single facet.
Hmmm. Maybe I am setting the bar too high, but this is meant to be a best albums ever list. I enjoy early Beta Band, I think I had lost interest in them by the time this record came out. I'm surprised it is on the list to be honest.
I really enjoyed the first track, probably the best discovery I've made doing this in these first dozen or so albums, but the rest of the album doesn't compare.
Ha. Look. Thrash metal isn't my thing, but I can appreciate what is going on here.
I already knew The Killing Moon but that was it. I think I enjoyed the rest of this, gave it a few spins, obviously not a record that reveals itself on the first listen, but left me wanting more.
Another one that is so hard to judge in one day, I feel there is a lot here, I'm keen to listen more. Obviously have heard of this band, but the couple of times I've tried to engage it hasn't stuck. Did enjoy this tho!
Ray Charles and Country and Western music. Two things that are relatively unknown to me. It is hard to know where one starts and the other ends. One thing I can say for sure is that I didn't need a double album of this, maybe I would have liked it a little more if it was just the first volume. That being said I didn't dislike it, it just dragged a little. And the lyrics, oh my god, get over it man, there's plenty more fish in the see. The one about being scared to go to sleep may be one of the worst things I've ever heard.
This is another one that I've not listened to for 25 years. In the same ball park as Coldcut, I think this probably made a bigger splash back in the day? Not sure how well it has aged - I feel music like this has more been incorporated into other genres than continues to exist as its own thing. Enjoyable to revisit, but won't make it any further than that.
I think I first found this album when I was about 10 years old. As a kid in suburban Australia I'm not sure how exactly, but I remember we were allowed to bring tapes in to class in sixth grade to play and I accidentally brought this in. It still sounds amazing now.
A double live album is a tough introduction to a band, they're really more for established fans.
At the end of the first song he says
"is there anybody here with any irish in them? is there any of the girls who would like a little more irish in them"
So there's that
Two stars
Look, I quite enjoyed this. Is 4 stars being a bit generous? Maybe. There's not many albums where I would happily say "oh just ignore the last twenty minutes", but there you go.
I really enjoyed the first half of this, to the point where I was asking myself if I was going to give five stars to an album I'd never heard before. I mean that's the dream right, that's why I'm here. But unfortunately the second half was nowhere near as good. I'm not even sure if the first half was on relisten. Who knows, but it did make me feel something and for that I am thankful.
I don't think you can get any more three stars than this.
I feel like I have had a lot of soul here in these first few weeks. I enjoyed this more than either Ray Charles or Aretha Franklin, tho I'm not sure I'm fully across the genre yet. All three albums have had a LOT of covers!
An easy 5 for me. Have listened to this pretty regularly since I first discovered them many years ago. Still sounds as fresh and exciting today.
Hey look, I have a soft spot for this kinda stuff. Haven't listened to this for a while but enjoyed revisiting it.
I have a very special connection to this album. I was living in Berlin in the second half of 2012. It was a ten minute walk from our apartment to the bar where my girlfriend worked. I used to listen to Pyramids on this walk. Putting this album on instantly takes me back there. Can't say I listen to it much anymore, but core memory = five stars.
I appreciated something different and new to me, but it didn't really grab me.
Sorry Frank, this is just not for me
Once of the songs is called 'any major dude will tell you' which may well be one of the best song titles I've ever heard. Unfortunately the song doesn't live up to the title, and the as album as a whole is a bit nothingy.
Brilliant album. I don't listen to it as much as I used to, but it is timeless. Iconic cover too!
Was quite disappointed by this. I loved The Basement Tapes, wanted to like it. Three stars is probably more than I actually feel right now.
Enjoyed more than I expected!
I thought this would be worse than it was. It was fine, but just probably not something I will come back to.
I like a lot of Talking Heads, but I don't have any albums that I love.
Hate to be an Alan Partridge, but if you asked me for my favourite Talking Heads album I'd have to say 'The Best of Talking Heads'
I really liked this album when it came out. I don't anymore, but will give it a bonus star for memories.
I knew the singles but not the album, the track Back to Black is just killer, but I enjoyed the whole thing. 4 stars.
Man these double albums are tough to get through. I guess these guys went on a long journey to end up where they ended up.
No complaints here, this was a lot of fun.
