Back to Mystery City by Hanoi Rocks

Pretty good! Great production on this one for the 80's

Ys by Joanna Newsom

Stunning. Have loved this one forever but, as it's not available on Spotify, I rarely come back to it. It was a reminder how amazing this artist is and this album is her highpoint. Production on this album is perfect. I truly can't think of anyone or anything that sounds like her and that's pretty awesome in my book

Such beautiful harmonies. Big Americana fan and this is right in that wheel house 👍👍

Africa Brasil by Jorge Ben Jor

I enjoyed this. The first song was covered by Soulfly years ago so I loved hearing that one. A nice relaxed production, top stuff

Jan 07 2026

A classic. The songs blend together so well, and there's so many more beautiful harmonies on there then just the known, Love of my life and Bohemian Rhapsody. Loved it!

A beautiful voice but the songs never really grabbed me I'm afraid

Jan 12 2026

Absolute classic! Love this one

Stand! by Sly & The Family Stone

Actually was really good! It reminds me a lot of Everclears Sparkle and Fade album, one of my faves

All Mod Cons by The Jam
Jan 15 2026

This was really good. The production sounds awesome. Will listen again

Electric Warrior by T. Rex

I Against I by Bad Brains
Feb 11 2026

It was really good. Can see for its time that it was a forerunner of a lot of great music.

Heartattack And Vine by Tom Waits
Feb 12 2026

I tried to not give it five stars, cos it's not my favorite Waits album. But by the time I got through Jersey girl and on the nickel I have to put it down as an absolute classic.

Feb 13 2026

Actually really enjoyed this! I was thinking it'd be two start at best going in but I was proven wrong. A great vibe and real Outkast big boi vibes throughout, which I love

Hot Rats by Frank Zappa
Feb 16 2026

Love Zappa. This album is amazing, Peaches en Regalia is one of the great opening songs for an album

Buena Vista Social Club by Buena Vista Social Club
Feb 17 2026

Beautiful music but not really my cup of tea. All the songs started to sound a bit the same after a while

White Light / White Heat by The Velvet Underground
Feb 19 2026

This one really grew on me. Some amazing storytelling. Sister Ray is a big highlight. Amazing song. Here she comes now also a classic

Disintegration by The Cure
Feb 20 2026

A beautiful album. Love everything about this one.

Odelay by Beck
Feb 23 2026

This album is amazing! It sounds so great, so ahead of its time. A real unique sound

Violator by Depeche Mode
Feb 24 2026

Actually a really great record. Really cool sounds. Personal Jesus obviously a classic

The Man Who by Travis
Feb 25 2026

It's perfectly fine, but gives me a whole "yes, we have Radiohead at home" vibes

Ray Of Light by Madonna
Feb 26 2026

This feels like she heard sneaker pimps and portishead and wanted to cash in on their popularity. Some nice sounds but nothing here that those other bands haven't done better

Californication by Red Hot Chili Peppers
Feb 27 2026

This album is crazy good! I think about ten of these songs have been radio staples in Australia for a long time. Ten hit singles is unheard of right!! Couldn't give it five stars cos I'm not a truly massive fan of the peppers but this album is extraordinary

Horses by Patti Smith
Mar 02 2026

Amazing! I'm a massive pj harvey fan but I've never checked out Patti Smith. Who knew they were so similar. Also some great Dylan vibes here. Loved it

Getz/Gilberto by Stan Getz
Mar 03 2026

Not really my vibe. Can see how it might be pivotal in the shape of jazz music but just a bit boring for mind

No Other by Gene Clark
Mar 04 2026

This was really good. A really great edition to the classic albums of that era.

Trafalgar by Bee Gees
Mar 05 2026

It was ok. Beautiful sounds but it felt a little dull. I do like a lot of Bee Gees stuff but this one got a little too orchestral. Lyrically it wasnt too bad, less saccharine then their other records

The Trinity Session by Cowboy Junkies
Mar 06 2026

This was quite good. Similar to Patti Smiths Horses, this album has a definite PJ Harvey vibe to it. Really great

Bitches Brew by Miles Davis
Mar 09 2026

I didn't get in to it at all. An incredible amount of ideas and great players, but as a musical piece, it bored me

Licensed To Ill by Beastie Boys
Mar 10 2026

I do like moments of the beastie boys. But I think their voices grate on me and a whole album is a bit too much. Similar to bitches brew, I can see how influential it is but not really my cup of tea

Ágætis Byrjun by Sigur Rós
Mar 11 2026

Love sigur ros sooo much!! Was gonna keep my five starts just for their parentheses album, but listening again to this one it's too amazing! If you haven't taken some kind of transport and put a sigur ros record on while u do it then do it! Amazing experience

Hot Shots II by The Beta Band
Mar 12 2026

It was pretty good. Nothing earth shattering here though. Reminded me of pavement a bit in parts, but not as good

Abbey Road by Beatles
Mar 13 2026

I need to go back and redo some of my earlier ratings. Cos I have some 5 stars in there but this stands above. Can I give it 6?? I am a beatles fanatic and will give most of their albums 5 for sure, but even for their catalogue, this one captures them at an amazing moment. Georges contributions are unbelievable, Johns are unbelievable, they're all unbelievable! Truly an all time top 5 album in the history of music

Mar 16 2026

Love muse! This isn't my favourite of theirs, but it has some incredible tunes. This was the last record before they headed a bit too far down the over the top pop road IMO

Head Hunters by Herbie Hancock
Mar 17 2026

Really great record. Watermelon song is a classic. The 41 minutes for 4 songs is very prog, which I love!

Doggystyle by Snoop Dogg
Mar 18 2026

Really enjoyed it. Some great sounds. Lyrically it's often a bit silly

Mar 19 2026

Great record! I love prog rock and this is certainly that! Really goes all over the place in the best way

Ys by Joanna Newsom
Mar 20 2026

Stunning. Have loved this one forever but, as it's not available on Spotify, I rarely come back to it. It was a reminder how amazing this artist is and this album is her highpoint. Production on this album is perfect. I truly can't think of anyone or anything that sounds like her and that's pretty awesome in my book

Live And Dangerous by Thin Lizzy
Mar 23 2026

Great sounding live record. Some great tunes in there but it all got a bit same same for me. Still, they must've been great as a live band

Let's Stay Together by Al Green
Mar 24 2026

Amazing voice and great recording. Title track is an all time classic but the whole album is really great 👍

The Rolling Stones by The Rolling Stones
Mar 25 2026

This doesn't have any of my favourite tunes from the stones. I'm not a great fan of all the cover versions people used to do back in the day. This was great though as you could hear the craziness of keith richards guitar playing and the incredible range of mick jaggers vocals which is what went on to help them create so many classic tunes

Two Dancers by Wild Beasts
Mar 26 2026

It was pretty good. One of the first pieces of music around my era that I hadn't heard of. Has a great sound reminiscent of passion pit/ walkmen/ lcd sound system kind of vibes

Solid Air by John Martyn
Mar 27 2026

It's a nice sounding record, but didn't strike me as anything amazing

Hounds Of Love by Kate Bush
Mar 30 2026

Beautiful record. Running up that hill is a classic but the proggy second half of the record is sooooo cool!!! Really enjoyed it

Sticky Fingers by The Rolling Stones
Mar 31 2026

Wow, this is popular for a reason! Some amazing tunes here with some great instrumentation!

Honky Tonk Heroes by Waylon Jennings
Apr 01 2026

It's a nice country record. Well played but I didn't feel it was especially significant

Unknown Pleasures by Joy Division
Apr 02 2026

Not really my thing. All the songs sounded very similar with little for me to get in to

Everything Must Go by Manic Street Preachers
Apr 03 2026

Sounded really great. Some great tunes in here. They had a similar sound to foo fighters back in that time so surprised I never took time to listen to it. Will have another listen again soon!

Guero by Beck
Apr 07 2026

It's a great beck record, but not my fav. He tries a few different things here, some are good, some not so much

Apr 08 2026

Eh not my favourite. Some cool sounds probably not heard a lot back in 95 but today it doesn't feel as revolutionary

Highway 61 Revisited by Bob Dylan
Apr 09 2026

This could be another 6 star one for me. I'm a Dylan nut so the whole story of this time in Dylan's career makes this album extra special. The bravery to move to electric guitar after being held up as the greatest acoustic folk player is amazing. The band are on another level and Dylan's lyrics are at the peak of anything ever recorded. Stunning from start to finish

Felt Mountain by Goldfrapp
Apr 10 2026

Really enjoyed this! I'll listen again. Influences by portishead and the like but still completely unique

Physical Graffiti by Led Zeppelin
Apr 14 2026

Soooo good! Hadn't listened through to this one before, it's awesome! It's Robert Plants voice at its absolute peak. Songwriting is awesome, playing is awesome...it's awesome

Let It Bleed by The Rolling Stones
Apr 15 2026

Great record. Preferred the last stones one I heard, but again, awesome experimentation here

Elephant by The White Stripes
Apr 16 2026

I love this album!! They really condense the songs down to such an elemental level. His guitar playing is unbelievable and his voice is the same. These songs are one of the strongest set of songs you'll hear!

Repeater by Fugazi
Apr 17 2026

This was really good! I'm a big At The Drive In fan and I can see the influences of this all over it. Will definitely listen again

Document by R.E.M.
Apr 20 2026

I do like REM. They have some amazing songs, but for me a lot are kinda forgettable. This album has "the one I love" which is awesome, but a lot of the rest of it I'm not massive on

Different Class by Pulp
Apr 21 2026

I did enjoy this, even though his Jarvis voice isn't all too exciting for me. The two hits were great, disco 2000 is an all time classic. But I also enjoyed a couple of the tunes on the back half of the record. Live bed show and sorted for e's and wizz were cheeky unique songs too

Apr 22 2026

Ah not really my kinda thing. The misogyny is a bit off putting for me. He has a lot a presence though and I love the story telling with the spoken word pieces

Seventh Tree by Goldfrapp
Apr 23 2026

I loved Felt Mountain but this one didn't grab me as much

Odessey And Oracle by The Zombies
Apr 27 2026

Yeh this was a great sixties album. I knew a couple of tunes but the whole record has a really cool sound.

Fragile by Yes
Apr 28 2026

Some cool sounds, but to be honest, I couldn't get through the first record. The idea of a four hour album is only for the most devoted of fans...which I am not

The Slider by T. Rex
Apr 29 2026

Some cool old rock sounds, pretty good album. Wasn't mad for it though. I think it's his voice isn't quite my thing

evermore by Taylor Swift
Apr 30 2026

It's very pretty, but its missing some bite. The songs have that pop sheen that takes away from it for me

Live At The Star Club, Hamburg by Jerry Lee Lewis
May 01 2026

This is amazing!! Only reason I didn't give it five stars was because he didn't write a lot of these songs. But man, this is an amazing document of someone who was obviously an incredible live performer. I would've loved to be in the room to see this!

To Pimp A Butterfly by Kendrick Lamar
May 04 2026

Unbelievable. This is one of my all time favs. I love a concept record and this one has it all. Captivating storytelling, production that moves in several directions at once. It's ahead of its time, it's poetry. It's a classic

Sea Change by Beck
May 05 2026

Beautiful record. I love Beck, he's such a chameleon. This acoustic laid back style of his is my personal fave and this album has some classics

May 06 2026

I'm a metalhead, but pantera has never been my favourite. This album though, is a classic and has had such a massive impact on metal music. All of the performances are insanely good and the tracks are full blown classics. So yeh...I loved it!

Sister by Sonic Youth
May 07 2026

Really great album. Sonic youth are such an important band, laying the groundwork for so much of the nineties alternative stuff I love. This one has some great tracks, none of my favourite sonic youth tunes, but solid nonetheless

Fever To Tell by Yeah Yeah Yeahs
May 08 2026

This is great! Had another album from Yeah Yeah Yeahs already but this one is better. A rawer sound that reminds me of early white stripes who were around at the same time. Also has a couple of their best tunes, including maps, which is a classic

Paul's Boutique by Beastie Boys
May 11 2026

Some great sounds in here. But I just don't like they're rapping. The voices annoy me on almost all of their songs. A couple of exceptions but not on this record

Thriller by Michael Jackson
May 12 2026

Amazing!! I don't think there's a three song run in an album any better than Thriller, Beat It and Billie Jean. The only reason I took a star off is because it's not a personal love of mine and a couple of the other tracks aren't as strong. But the high points are amazing

Fever Ray by Fever Ray
May 13 2026

I wasn't too excited about this, the vocals and stuff weren't my sorta thing. But definitely some interesting sounds. The second half of the album really brought me around to it

At Folsom Prison by Johnny Cash
May 14 2026

Great record! What an amazing document, the crowd noises and the way Johnny communicates with them is a special thing to hear. Dropped a couple of stars cos, for me, his songs have a very same same quality to them that I don't find too engaging. Still an amazing record tho

Kollaps by Einstürzende Neubauten
May 15 2026

Nah not my bag.

Led Zeppelin III by Led Zeppelin
May 18 2026

Great record! Zepplin 2 thru 4 is a great run of albums. This one is probably weaker than the other two but still, a record with immigrant song on it can't be bad at all

Crime Of The Century by Supertramp
May 19 2026

Pretty great record. Love this seventies sound. Dreamer obviously a highlight. I actually gave it more stars cos their song the logical song came on after and that really is an all time classic. Not on this record, but still

Back to Mystery City by Hanoi Rocks
May 20 2026

Pretty good! Great production on this one for the 80's

Siamese Dream by The Smashing Pumpkins
May 21 2026

Unbelievable. The guitar sound so crisp, Billy's voice and lyrics so raw, Jimmy's drums as thundering as anything you'll hear on a record. And the balance between softer songs and heavy ones is perfect. I love it

I'm Your Man by Leonard Cohen
May 22 2026

Not a fan of Leonard Cohen and this didn't change my mind

Bad by Michael Jackson
May 25 2026

Another great album! MJ's run of these three albums is top tier. This one has Man in the Mirror and Smooth Criminal as personal faves.

Nebraska by Bruce Springsteen
May 26 2026

It's nice sounding, but a bit dull and repetitive for me. I prefer some of Bruce's later work with a bit more instrumentation

Close To You by Carpenters
May 27 2026

A sweet voice but as an album I found it pretty dull

Fifth Dimension by The Byrds
May 28 2026

Overall, the album is pretty hot and cold. But I couldn't give it any lower than three stars cos the opening tune, 5th dimension, is one my dad has been playing me since I can remember. And it's beautiful and I love it so so so much!!

Locust Abortion Technician by Butthole Surfers
May 29 2026

Pretty great. Can't believe it was an 86 release. Pretty ahead of its time in a lot of respects

Hot Fuss by The Killers
Jun 01 2026

Such a great album! Loved it when it first came out. Great live act too!

Purple Rain by Prince
Jun 02 2026

To be honest, I wasn't too captured by this. Having said that, purple rain is a classic tune and I love it. Just overall, the album was a bit flat for me. Maybe it's the weight of expectation.

The Genius Of Ray Charles by Ray Charles
Jun 04 2026

Beautiful songs, and the man is an amazing performer. But overall, there wasn't anything groundbreaking in here for me

My Aim Is True by Elvis Costello
Jun 05 2026

Yeh pretty good, a cool side of elvis costello I hadn't seen before

All Directions by The Temptations
Jun 08 2026

This was really good! I didn't realize the temptations had such a controversial style. But I really loved it

Aqualung by Jethro Tull
Jun 09 2026

This was awesome! Jazz flute was a great addition but just beautiful songwriting all round. Locomotive breath is a classic that I'll listen to many times again!

Elvis Is Back by Elvis Presley
Jun 10 2026

It didn't capture me all that much as a record, but I gave it three stars because that voice is as silky smooth as anything you'll here on some of these tracks! Pretty amazing

Rejoicing In The Hands by Devendra Banhart
Jun 11 2026

This was really great! Kind of like sufjan stevens and cat power who were around at this time. I really enjoyed it

In Our Heads by Hot Chip
Jun 12 2026

This was really good! Look at where we are is such a great tune! Will revisit this one!

Home Is Where The Music Is by Hugh Masekela
Jun 15 2026

This was pretty good. A lot of this kind of jazz can be too self indulgent, and this was in parts. But there was some really nice stuff in there too

Brothers by The Black Keys
Jun 16 2026

Love this one! Thickfreakness is my favourite of theirs, but this one is maybe their songwriting peak. Dont think there's a dud track at all here. Classic

Morrison Hotel by The Doors
Jun 17 2026

I'm not a massive doors fan, a lot of times it strolls along aimlessly too long I feel. This record is different though, feels really focused. Strong songs all throughout, a classic 70's record

Manassas by Stephen Stills
Jun 18 2026

This one was perfectly nice, but nothing groundbreaking for me. I love a lot of his stuff with CSN&Y but this one wasn't a standout

Vivid by Living Colour
Jun 19 2026

Great record! These guys kill it live. Cult of personality a cracker tune. But plenty of other bangers here!

Born To Run by Bruce Springsteen
Jun 22 2026

Pretty awesome record. Born to run the song is an absolute classic for sure. Love it so much. The rest of the album is also solid

Catch A Fire by Bob Marley & The Wailers
Jun 23 2026

Great record! Has all the best of those Marley vibes. The first couple of tunes are lyrically awesome as well

Blue Lines by Massive Attack
Jun 24 2026

Absolute classic record! Unfinished sympathy is an all time classic. The whole record has an awesome vibe. Iconic

Truth by Jeff Beck
Jun 25 2026

Some really great tracks here kicked it up to three stars. There was some self indulgent blues mixed in there which threatened to drag it down, but in all some pretty solid songs. First half probably the pick of it

B-52's by The B-52's
Jun 26 2026

Pretty great album. Rock lobster is obviously the standout, what an amazing song it is. The extended mix here goes in many weirder directions. I think the production on this record is what makes rock lobster so great, also the band seems really tight.

Jun 29 2026

I love this album! I was a big fan of the first two Coldplay records. This came out at a time when everyone was talking about Radiohead, and I think on this one they really tried to chase that Radiohead sound, which is always a good thing.

Appetite For Destruction by Guns N' Roses
Jun 30 2026

Really not a big guns and roses fan, but when they get it right, its awesome! So for sweet child of mine, paradise city and welcome to the jungle I'll give em three stars 😆😆

Blur by Blur
Jul 01 2026

Man this is great! I always loved Beetlebum and MOR but haven't listened to the whole record. Song 2 is great too, but it's been so overdone in my life that it's kinda annoying now. But this whole album is awesome, I'll listen again

Jul 02 2026

Another great old live album. The energy this guy had performing sounds awesome. It gives you a great idea why Sam Cooke is such a legendary name in music

The Dreaming by Kate Bush
Jul 03 2026

This was amazing! A real creative record, it shows where Fiona Apple, PJ Harvey and a million others were being inspired from. Loved it

Play by Moby
Jul 22 2026

Pretty good record. A lot of hits in there. I enjoyed it

Crosby, Stills & Nash by Crosby, Stills & Nash
Jul 23 2026

Beautiful acoustic songs. This one didn't grab me as much as other CSN albums but still a lovely listen

Live! by Fela Kuti
Jul 27 2026

Wow! This one surprised me! It's got so much energy and the musos are all so terrific. I read up about the back story, recording it in abbey road and ginger bakers history, it all just adds to this absolute classic. I will revisit!

Five Leaves Left by Nick Drake
Jul 28 2026

A nice album, but he just doesn't excite me with the way he performs. Kinda boring

Jul 29 2026

Actually a pretty good record! Don't know how I didn't hear a lot of it at the time. Some great electronic sounds

Swordfishtrombones by Tom Waits
Jul 30 2026

Another beautiful Waits album. I love everything he does. This is a sweet spot where he was really getting in to his more weird, challenging stuff. But there's still a tonne of heart as always

Don't Stand Me Down by Dexys Midnight Runners
Jul 31 2026

Some interesting sounds, but it's not really my kinda thing

Natty Dread by Bob Marley & The Wailers
Aug 04 2026

Something about Bob Marley is just effortlessly cool and comfortable to listen to. Great playing and just this awesome vibe. This album is definitely one of those. Always enjoy it

Songs Of Love And Hate by Leonard Cohen
Aug 05 2026

I tried, there's some nice moments here, but overall his voice and his schtick just kinda grate on me

The Hissing Of Summer Lawns by Joni Mitchell
Aug 06 2026

It's a very creative record, but similar to Leonard Cohen, I don't find her vocal style pleasant unfortunately

Aug 07 2026

This was pretty good! I didn't know what Brian Eno would be like but was pleasantly surprised. It's a lot less electronic than I thought and had a great amount of unique sounds and lyrics.

So by Peter Gabriel
Aug 10 2026

Really great record. His voice is awesome, the one two punch of sledgehammer and don't give up is up there with the best!

Vol. 4 by Black Sabbath
Aug 11 2026

Great record. Awesome band and just some killer jams. Always love Changes as well, really sticks out on this record.

Heavy Weather by Weather Report
Aug 13 2026

Amazing playing, and some beautiful moments. But it doesn't really capture my attention long enough

Aug 14 2026

This was pretty nice. Some influences that can be heard in the Kendricks and the like that came later

Moondance by Van Morrison
Aug 17 2026

Not bad. Moondance in to crazy love is a pretty good one two. Astral weeks is my all time fav from him tho

Bryter Layter by Nick Drake
Aug 18 2026

I haven't been a fan of the Nick Drake records I've heard so far, but this one I quite enjoyed. It had a bit more stuff going on musically
