1001 Albums Summary

pure magic and nostalgia

my first reggae album and okay cool now it won’t be my last

was a bit too excited for this to be over. yawn

big fan of this form of yearning

real good i just would not listen in full again

blissfully simple

who the hell gave this guy a mic. i cannot stand him. bassist slapped tho

yes yes yes yes yes for the ones that truly bop but not a no skip

fun funky elements

gee i quite like it. it being live took off a star, but honestly would’ve been so enjoyable in person Lost Someone pissed me off bc my ex texted me today… leave me alone

this could’ve been an email first many songs are killer, obviously.

a masterpiece. haven’t listened through the whole thing in years, and was surprised by the variety.

i am a fan

kinda just fine

really enjoyed and excited by the first song, but a bit downhill from there

i’m having fun and then i start listening to the lyrics

pleasantly surprised, even knew 2 of them well.

DNF after about half. i’m so bored by it, and don’t feel the need to listen to it in full. you’d think it would work semi well at the gym but every track just drags

first half is great because of the nostalgia. second to last song started strong, has some Portishead vibes in the instrumental that I enjoyed. but the vocals destroyed that vibe. last song is horrific im sorry

can i get a glass of water?

this actually physically hurt to listen to, in particular the screeching guitar. i used to looove the velvet underground but this has me really questioning my taste. almost gave it a 2 for the moments of solace in Here She Comes Now and parts of Sister Ray.

i can’t get past the singers voice. otherwise just feels so lacking depth, anything interesting really.

her voice is tantalizing, and the sound overall is so crisp and clean. love

easy listening but very blah, nothing really stood out

i can’t explain why i fuck with this but somehow, i do. was previously very familiar with Road Runner, Pablo Picasso, and Hospital but nothing else. maybe it’s the crisp sound quality w lazy vocals (not derogatory)? expected this to be an early 2000s album tbh but maybe that’s aging me. he just gets it. i do go to bakeries all day long. okay after Modern World i’m getting real sick of the lyrics men write about women. not on this particular album, compared to other albums on this list, just got reminded of it. alright now that i’m through Dance With Me, this is too long. but the alternative ones slap! maybe 3.5. can’t decide how much i enjoy.

great variety of sound and pace in here. certainly not for all but certainly for me. will be revisiting, can’t believe i hadn’t heard of them before. favorites are probably laughingstock, jenny, last harbor

fuck yeah dude

oh this isn’t presley? first few instrumental notes were good then his voice made me immediately angry about being subjugated to 56 min of it. i’ve gotten to 20% amnesia and holy shit this is terrible!! why is it in this list!!

i love lentils, beans, seaweed and rice. not for me at all. i’m not sure it’s for anyone, so many other albums could’ve taken its place on the list.

tired of misogyny being our culture

solid 3.5

kinda disappointed, he didn’t come close to capturing the agony of allergies. rash is nothing, try anaphylaxis. similarly, cars are cars could’ve been a deep critique of our car dependent hell hole. maybe i should get into songwriting, im feeling inspired. otherwise really enjoyed a couple of songs, while some drifted by without my noticing. standouts include Song About the Moon, Train in the Distance

always will rock w this

nah dude. was gonna be nice with a 2 bc it’s better than the first one i got from him but nah can’t do this.

i really feel like he didn’t need to abandon his son for these albums. but i suppose we wouldn’t have had jeff if we knew him otherwise. none of my favorites from tim are on this, and it’s all very Okay. cool to hear some potential influence on jeff. can understand people not enjoying this, but it works well enough for me. and there ya have it, my entire review ended up being about jeff buckley and not his fathers album. whoops

this makes me gag update: omg why do we need to use the n word?? we dont!

oh my god .. this BANGER?! immediate 5 after the first measure of bitter sweet symphony.

snore. he’s obviously so talented but nothing stood out, and got tired of sad yearning boy lyrics.

WHO TOOK THE BOMP?

wow i did not realize every song ever written was on this album. many lyrics that continue to be ever meaningful in our hellish developed world.

i hate men. beats good👍

yeah this sucks

lyrics are

really surprised by how many i knew

i love talk heads

bell bottom blues underrated. this went on far too long and then i learned about eric clapton from the reviews sooo yeah. boo

unremarkable but one i enjoyed. 2.5

at no point could i have predicted what was coming next. some really strong instrumentals, and i loved the female vocalist. ofc, as many have alluded, some songs are a bit challenging

did not expect The Model to pop up in the middle of this, but yes of course!

cringey af i haven’t finished it yet update - a dnf

forgot how good this was

no stand outs, pretty forgettable, but can see it being a big deal fr the time. while i can’t remember much, i know i enjoyed it

listened to two rounds of this during a long ceramics session, which probably biased me to be a bit more positive

dnf so it’s a 1 i guess

this pmo

oh yeah

splendid

pretty great. i’ll never be able to give so much harmonica a five tho. it’s not easy listening and well worth the effort, typical bob. still prefer joan baez’s versions of most of his songs, but giving credit where it’s due.

i love a sing along

dragged a bit tho obviously good

i did not hate this just mildly long hm

3.5????

women kinda peak but oh wait it’s dude so less peak. still gud

had a breakdown while listening in traffic so prob not fair. didn’t really standout from folsom prison

i can’t stand this. not sure why, i like similar albums/artists. but this feels like there’s nothing interesting to say - simply annoying

nothing really stood out but it was fairly enjoyable at the same time

would be a 3.5 but CTA makes me so physically uncomfortable that it’s a 2.5. otherwise enjoyed

she’s got range ok

some people will never understand the peace from this kind of music or noise, which just emulates the inner anxiety perfectly. thanks to some of the reviews that provide historical content for the album, and perhaps why the feelings are relevant to this day.

I might have to implement The Rule for this one. so sick of Elvis Costello. nostalgia of Allison brought this to a 2. Waiting for the End of the World? I am begging for the end of this record. and yet I’ll only be halfway through the SIX (?!) Elvis Costello albums on this list.

i’m shocked at the year this came out, really set the 70s up for success.

Some of the most interesting and undoubtably talented vocals I’ve come across on this list so far. Extra special shoutout to the “how can I” build up on Ain’t No Way. I love this.

I hate this. I cannot focus on anything else as it plays, so good job there guys. The mixing/levels are just horrible, sounds like seven unrelated tracks playing at the same time. Lacks musicality.

yeah that was fantastic. i usually can’t stand overly religious themes, but the message here was a great reflection on how we’re treating the world, and some must cling to gods i guess

Where Is The Line had been a great test of my openness and i believe i’ve passed. somewhere between 2 and 3 for me, i appreciate the acapella and creativity but after a bit it’s repetitive and falls flat.

quite liked this. it reeks of early 2000s in the best way

couldn’t do it not even a pity 2

easiest five yet

all three of them are so incredible. really appreciated the harmonies, and the featuring of each one in different songs

couldn’t stand this

just a dreary version of the smiths that i know

far better with repeated listens. never quite hit me the way other songs by The National do

i’m not convinced that this isn’t tim buckley

wonderful songwriting but i can’t help but wish i was listened to joan baez’s versions

wonderful listening at a bus stop in the soft fall drizzle

nothing pisses me off like the sexist, boomer men haunting this site and these reviews. i do think pure heroine is more deserving of this spot, but a phenomenal record in its own way - particularly the first half. the songs do become to monotonous and repetitive after that. went to this tour nearly ten years ago now and really fell for the album then

every single song is far too repetitive and uninteresting

dnf

the list really brought this out of left field and i loved it

this did nothing for me. this list would be so much more impactful if it was cut in half or more, but instead we find ourselves wasting years

don’t go near the water is an incredible beginning. this album was just short of the 5 because it isn’t memorable enough as a whole, but fantastic regardless. i was so surprised by the depth

did not meet expectations

i can’t even remember if i finished this tbh it really went on too long
