There once was a time when I could have gotten into this. But life’s too short, and this had its chance to grab me (in the very early 90s, from where it sounds firmly rooted). I can’t be doing with moody, floor-gazing, lolloping head mumbly singing over generic indie guitars today - I’ve got more modern stuff to do.
No thanks, very mid. Good music but weak vocals. Undeserving of it's place on this list. There must be better examples of this genre. To be honest, I'd rather just stare at my shoes all day.
If rolling stone calls it a masterpiece rest assured it is not…
Hate having to search for album when not on Apple (I'm lazy) but listened to this on YouTube - and glad I did - sort of. Not bad - has a a 90's vibe of when rock tried meshing with other genres (like grunge, Hip Hop, etc) this tried to move toward an alt slant. Creative. Some songs remind me of "Yo La Tango" but not as good.
Was hoping this lived up to the hype but it didn't really click with me. Rather forgettable indie with a couple of decent songs. Average at best
For en åpning! Meget bra album.
Hell no
5/10… shoegaze / indie / *1990
very bland and repetitive
didn't like the singer, rest was ok mostly
Ok for an alternative album. I'm just not sure that I would listen again.
Good
A less profane version of Buckcherry. Not great but okay enough.
Album 349. Nowhere (https://open.spotify.com/album/3cmIjwBG498X6AURxoVEnQ?si=lDeyNoGvSEiGH0TgyxYRQw&utm_source=copy-link) — Ride (1990) Terrible shoegaze alternative shit that took away 1 hour 11 minutes of my life 1/5 No liked songs
Ah yes, the distinctive guitar-distorting soundscape of angst-ridden shoegazers.
Nowhere near good enough. Flat, interminable, depressing.
Lovely music, terrible vocals
Didn't know shoe gaze could be so interesting.
Falling Like Feathers To The Floor 1001 Albums Generator 371 (10/14/2026) This is some gorgeous shoegaze, these guitar tones are just perfect and the totally reverbed out drums are special. I think that I like this more than Loveless even. I really wish it was on Spotify. 4/5. Favs: Seagull In A Different Place Drums Burn Down Least Fav: Decay
I like it!!
At the time of this review Nowhere is not currently on my streaming service. Luckily, I’ve own it and have listened to it so many times because it’s one of my favorites. Just a warm, fuzzy listen.
Gives me The Cure and Oasis vibes. I liked the drumming. There were some interesting loud, noisy parts in there. 2.5/5
This was a Kaleidoscope of sounds that will put you In a Different Place.
Never really knew what “shoe gaze” was. Turns out don’t like “shoe gaze.”
Couldn’t find on Spotify so listened to Machine head, Kate’s album
I love Ride. Those early EPs were brilliant. This album, however doesn’t hit the same heights and is ‘nowhere’ near as good as the follow-up, Going Blank Again. I’ll still give it 4 cos the band made a big impression on indie rock. One of the pillars of shoegaze alongside MBV and Swervedriver.
I'm always suspicious when an album is from a band I've never heard of and it isn't available on Apple Music, but this was a pleasant surprise. A nice shoegaze album, a genre I didn't even know was a thing until a couple of years ago, but it turns out I've listened to since the 80's. I'm glad it was available on YouTube so I could enjoy it.
If Oasis were good, and gazed at shoes they would sound like this.
was nervous to get another shoegazing album, but this one was fine. didn't feel like it was just going to go on forever.
Probably the best of the shoegaze albums we’ve had so far, still not quite my favorite genre though. Wouldn’t mind listening to more of their work but it’ll be once the list is over.
Way better than I was expecting from a shoegaze band. Not sure if I would even classify them as shoegaze. I enjoyed it the whole way through. Giving it a four feels a little overhyped, but if three feels too low
I thought I really wasn't going to like this but it's alright. It's not as shoegazy as other stuff that came out in the early 90. I had the displeasure to see Slowdive in 1991 playing in the bar at university and I'm afraid I tarred all music of that genre with the same brush. This album is alright though.
Out of 25 tracks on the Expanded version I started on, the first 8 are the actual album, then 3 bonus tracks. Then the 2001 release added another 4 tracks. Seeing a Shoegaze album from a band I have never heard of makes me immediately nervous, especially when it then opens with feedback guitar noises.. but it then drops into this sick drum beat and the feedback becomes a messy but interesting melody in Seagull. I enjoyed Kaleidoscope as well. Polar Bear is fantastic! To me there is a fine line in Shoegaze between something that sounds really good and just directionless noise. Most bands don't get it right, but Nowhere gets the balance right. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
decent
The sound of my youth. Nowhere playing incessantly while I studied. Flawless shoegaze ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I mean, this is fine and I'm happy enough to listen to this. But is this special enough to listen to before I die? I don't agree. I think the sound becomes very muddy at points and it ends up sounding very similar across the album. Fav Track: Semen
Could only find on YouTube.
Not bad
It is.
nooch Will I listen to again: 5%
Considering the year of release, I would say this band is most like Sonic Youth. But where that group was breaking new ground, this one seemed more like it was trying to revive 60s psychedelic rock.
This is shoegaze? Uneven, but the cacophony of sounds on several songs sounds like they are picking up where the Beatles left off.
To be fair, only half of this record is available to stream on Spotify. What I did get was musically solid if not terribly memorable.
Couldn't find this on Tidal or Apple Music, their other work showed up but not this. Had to find it on Youtube, and it's a shame. Because this is actually a very enjoyable album. I'm apparently pretty in to shoegaze as a style. Who knew? It's such an incredibly full wall of sound. The heavy effects, the amazing drummer (the absolute star of this whole album), the generally depressing lyrics. It all makes a kind of visceral experience that really lends itself to the clinically depressed. It's a fine album, but I do have to knock it down a bit for its unavailability to a high three/ low four.
Didn't really move the needle for me.
A bit drab, some atmospheric songs but nothing stand out
I couldn’t find this album on apple music, so I guess it was really nowhere to be found. Bad jokes aside, this is probably some of the best shoegaze out there. I absolutely love all of the hazy guitars, soft, echoing vocals, mixed with incredible drumming as well. Gentle, yet super overpowering with its overwhelming bursts of guitar static, especially on songs like Dreams Burn Down. This record really reminded me that I’m a total sucker for shoegaze and all of its glorious reverb.
I really like the music. I wish I liked the vocals a little more but this was a pleasant surprise.
Another band I've never heard of that scratched that last 90's alt rock itch from my high school years.
I liked this a lot more than the My Bloody Valentine Albums I've had to date, just more substance. Still a little bit like background noise at times though. Rating: 4/10 Favorite Song: In a Different Place
Very cool, shoegazey music.
This just builds on top of My Bloody Valentine - Vapour Trail is such a sick closer! 🫰🏻🫰🏻🫰🏻
90s shoegaze, alt rock.
Angenehm rockig, gut zu hören. 3/5
I had never heard of shoegaze before this project and I hope I'll never hear about it again. It's boring but not interesting enough to be a 1/5
Shoegaze Classic.. I’m just not convinced shoegaze was invented to be listened to. I did enjoy it but I didn’t love it. Jesus and Mary chain probably do it better for me but this was very good. 3 stars.
I love this underrated album, bought it in 1990 when it was released, I think I’d only heard vapour trail, got to see them live many years later, they were so loud - I still play this album nowadays, and I’m in my sixties, just fucking excellent
2.6 out of 5 stars for this album. It's like Ride got together with some really good hooks and just decided, we don't want to change, we just want to repeat the same guitar hook over and over for 6 minutes and sing meloncholy, muddled lyrics. I appreciate some of the music on this, but it's forgettable, and boring after a while. I initially gave this a 2.4 star rating, but bumped it up 0.2 because I would totally want to surf that wave on the cover.
The drums for Vapour Trail (ugly British U included) is nearly identical to I Miss You by Blink182 during live performances without the flair
Really nice wall of guitars. The melodies still come through it well.
This feels like a transition point between shoegaze and BritPop. Lots of quirky choices. Distinctive.
Britpop-ish. But late night, hardcore John Peel britpop. I was never a fan of bands like The Jesus & Mary Chain even back in the day, so this is a tough ask for me.
Not my favorite, not enough variation. BUT Vapour Trail is an amazing song and more than enough for a 3
Excellent album, albeit mildly disappointing at the time after the wonderful first few EPs, but I still played it to death when it came out. The soundtrack to my miserable bedsit circa 1990. I call this "effects pedal rock", as that's what they're staring at - not their monkey boots. Still brilliant live if you get the chance to see them!
Love it.
This was class, like a precursor to the stone roses
Ride’s Nowhere lands as a split decision — the shimmering, ’80s‑leaning tracks like Taste absolutely glow, giving you that warm, melodic rush I lock onto. But the deeper you go, the more a few songs drift into a haze that never quite connects.
Loud, fuzzy and melodic
No private session used for Spotify. I couldn't listen to this entire album on Spotify, which probably helped out this rating because 76 minutes of shoe gaze is a bit much.
I loved this
This one slid past me. Nothing to dislike. the guitars are beautiful and the drumming has more drive than I expected from this kind of record. but nothing stuck either. I suspect that's on me rather than the album; it seems built for repeated listening, the kind of thing that opens up slowly. I'd give it another chance.
Easy one. In the mix for favorite album of all time.
Sympa
Remove the vocals and I could see this being 4 stars.
Enjoyable in the background. Never strays too far into the "just noise" category. But don't think I would ever search it out for another listen.
Not available on streaming apps. Giving review on incomplete listen.
Love the smashed, noisy drums all over this. They do that soft and loud, melodic and discordant at the same thing so well. Polar Bear is one of my favorite songs everrr. Dreams Burn Down is fuckin' great too. Whole thing's fantastic. One of the best from the era and genre.
Just ok "shoegaze". Not very memorable but not horrible. 2.8/5 -> 3/5
I think I love this
Spotify had five songs available to listen to, the other 10 were greyed out, or hidden. I had to go to YouTube. For me, it wasn't worth the effort.
Sounds like one of those bands that blend into "Shoegaze Classics" but maybe that's kinda the point
gregg araki's nowhere is one of (if not THE one) favourite films where the director is not ashamed of pretty much making a film for showing off his (pretty cool) music taste including through cheesy dialogue. nowhere by ride, perhaps inspired the name, and would absolute play in it (we have it on another of his movies tho) and it is in fact such a nice ride to (re)visit. as much as i am bored of classic rock and same oldey guitar riffs, this is THE rock music i love. it has its sappy element, it has its inciting riffs, it leaves me wandering in what feels like wave rides back and forth of feelings, sensations and eras. i think things really get started in the third track ("in a different place"), with such sweet sounding guitar, the actual sort of music to instantly cause huge dopamine rushes and love for life. for the longest time, a long time ago, "in my place" by coldplay was my favourite song. i can also pay a visit to it in "dreams burn down"s drums and the two songs actually evoke similar feelings in me (all good). it feels rewarding and like unraveling a ball of treasures (?), for this specific order, to actually enjoy inspiration-source and inspired pieces. "vapour trail" (thankfully later followed by the beautifully longing "taste"), originally the album's closer, is lovely, romantic and paints the bluest sky in my mind to look up to in search for airplane's vapour trails with a a soulmate on grass. even tho i love this a lot, and it's pretty much an auto happiness inducing album, AND makes a hamornica sound good (probably because it's swallowed in "here and now"s beauty), it's not an all time favourite or most heard of mine, but it has to be a five star here so i escape my 2's ratings streak and average, and convince myself i LOVE music through numbers even in this biased list that doesn't meet my biased taste most of the time, making gems like this glow even harder
1053 - "Here's your juice box and orange slice. Thanks for coming."
Found this real tough going
One of the pillars of Shoegaze... and as this genre has finally started to see it's long overdue time in the spotlight over the past few years, I am happy to say This Album Is Really Good.
Brilliant
An interesting little album, but felt more like background music than anything I'd want to actively listen to.
Not really deep into shoegaze, but this album has quite a good vibe. I like the heaviness on the drums. Decent album
Okay, this was new to me and kinda interesting, I may have to revisit this. Not immediately taken, but definitely interesting.
Somehow I never heard of the shoegaze genre before.
This is what I hoped shoegaze would sound like - walls of guitar (more sustained than thrashed), with actual melodies in the singing. If this album was played by a local band, I’d be thrilled, tell my friends, go and see them again, and maybe over time I’d get to know particular songs. But listening to the album at home - it is a weakness that no songs stand out as memorable. It seems like a long listen - a full CD. It’s kinda Good, for being thoroughly shoegaze, 7/10.
So it turns out I like shoegaze.
Very good, The songs are emotional and well written with cool shoegazey guitar stuff
