Another unknown band for me. It's rock, but it's boring. Nothing catchy, real catchy, nothing memorable or special. Mediocre.

So, basically, it's a cover album, because 8 of 12 songs are covers. I rarely admit that covers are better than originals and this album is no exception. Only "Have Love Will Travel" I find more interesting than the original, so I like it and it's basically the most popular song of the album. Psycho, which is an original song, is also very good.

It's definitely the most popular album by Bob Marley and maybe his best. I think about Marley's songs a couple of times per year, so it's great to hear this album today. The album is great, sounds very good and really contrasting. The album masterfully mixes songs about religion, politics, love. "Waiting In Vain" is one of the saddest reggae songs I've ever heard. Meanwhile "Three Little Birds" is one of the most optimistic classic reggae songs.

I prefer slightly more technical rap, here it's a bit funky, but that doesn't make it bad. It's fucking awesome — explosive, pretentious, and poetic.
I adore hip-hop for the freedom, the skill, the breaking of established rules. This album has all of that; it's a badass revolutionary record that people copied and looked up to. Still, with a heavy heart I gotta admit that listening to it today feels a bit tough and you can really feel it's aged.
This is only the first hip-hop album on the list. In every hip-hop review I'm gonna brutally confess my huge love for hip-hop and rap culture and the genre. Right now I wanna drop here a short piece of pizdatiy text from a pizdatiy Novosibirsk (originally) guy who absolutely destroys B2B sales in fucking London — Anton Gladkov:
I feel bad giving it 3/5, but it's not the kind of album I’m dying to come back to over and over
Second hip-hop album in a row. Fantastic. I listened to this album 1.5 month ago and here we go again. It's great. It's a modern classic and Kanye is a genius in his own way, I love that way, so I love the album too.
Kanye is another one of those "свободные ебанаты" who actually pushes the genre and the whole culture forward.
I like the quote "move culture or move with culture"
Kanye is one of the ones who move culture and it's wonderful.
He doesn't have the greatest lyrics, he doesn't have the best flow, but he has black balls.
"'Cause the same people that tried to blackball me
Forgot about two things, my Black balls"

It’s the first Bowie song I was obsessed with. I heard it in a SpaceX animation video (https://youtu.be/Tk338VXcb24?si=b7z1y9NqnQ5pYGzs) about the Falcon Heavy Launch in 2018 and it’s changed my life.
I love Bowie so much since then. Life on Mars is the №4 lifetime song in my Spotify and I streamed it over 80 times. So, yes, I admire this song.
The history of creating this song is mind-blowing. There was a French hit song “Comme d’habitude (https://youtu.be/w22haP4hgsQ?si=vPw4-18Xp7Ci9Mis)” by Claude François, Bowie wrote English lyrics for this song “Even a Fool Learns to Love (https://genius.com/David-bowie-even-a-fool-learns-to-love-lyrics)”, but Bowie didn’t like it and the publisher he worked for didn’t like it either, so English lyrics were later written by another dude - Paul Anka. And this song became the famous “My way (https://youtu.be/qQzdAsjWGPg?si=8PCya_GdjyTuk_Ha)” by Frank Sinatra.
Later, Bowie listened to it on the radio and wanted to create his own version. So, he created Life on Mars?

I really like Dead on Arrival, so fucking alienly weird and dangerous, it sounds like a space blaster war on the moon in the second part: green aliens protecting their underground moon bunkers while SpaceX colonizers attack them.
The album sounds like a perfect soundtrack for the "Outer Wilds" game too.

I started listening to this album and thought "wow, it's very similar to bjork, why did they make it so similar".
Later I got it...It's actually bjork in the band🤦♂
Not trash and not great. It's okay

Well, it’s epic, beautifully written and sometimes sounds interesting.
If it were shorter, I would like it more. It’s 54 minutes of depressing, boring music, which is way too much for me.
I already want to call Robert Dimery a jerk for including so many ordinary britpop albums. It’s exhausting.
It’s worse than Coldplay. And Coldplay is worse than Radiohead, so...

For me, it’s an almost perfect album for the last day of the year. Chill, jazzy, funky, unexpected British rap ahahahah. In a world full of New Year madness, it’s a piece of heaven, an island of the calm.
I’ll relisten to it later, it’s great. And I want to listen to their next album “Our Favourite Shop” too.
I added the first 7 songs to my playlist and then something happened. The first half of the album is 5 out of 5, the second half is worse, unfortunately. I added nothing to the playlist.
It was really nice to listen to every song, but A Gospel (the rap song) was a turning point song.
Firstly, wtf, it’s fucking strange, nigger rap style, but by a white dude. East Coast style, but British wrap. They’re copying Black East Coast style like Grandmaster Flash, Public Enemy or Run-DMC.
It’s not Bronx rap, it’s London rap that copies the Bronx, and it feels weird in a bad way. Well, at least Paul Weller has balls to do that and probably did it one of the first in the UK, respect+.
It’s a new band and an experimental album for Paul Weller after The Jam band is over. I think Cafe Bleu is a fantastic change of music style for Paul, this album is much better for me than Sound Affects by The Jam.
So, overall…

Honestly, it’s a perfect choice for today again. Only yacht-rock can gently fondle my ears after a sleepless night.
I love yacht-rock and Steely Dan sooo much. I’ve listened to Rikki Don’t Lose That Number over 10 times since 2019. And probably never listened to other songs from this album. Time to fix it.
I really want to write a big text about the album or Steely Dan in general, but I’m tired af. So, it has been postponed until their next album, glad we have 4 of them on the list.
Only one thing I can say, the album disappointed me. I hoped to add a lot of songs to my playlist, but no. It’s a small catch. There’s almost no fish in this album for me.

I'm not a fan of metal, but there are exceptions. And this is one of them. I love it. I had some of these songs in my playlist a long time ago.
You Really Got Me is a great cover of The Kinks. I don't know if it'll be bumped up to 5 out of 5 in the future, but for now it's solid...

Fourth great album in a row. Random in 2026 is crazy.
Love it. Maybe ‘cause I’m a mad man and this album is by Madness. Maybe it’s because of the name — “The Rise & Fall”. Like Ziggy Stardust, you know.
Well, this album is so good and so long that it brings me a little more madness, that's the truth. That’s why I like it.
It’s old and… not gold, but really good ska music. Sometimes boring and too similar and it’s okay.
What I like about the album is how it blends reflective, melancholic themes with nonsense and catchy hooks.
The National Anthem is a sick song, it’s art in the flesh.
Remember, tomorrow's just another day. Great song.

That's not nearly as bad as reviews and ratings make it look.
Time Becomes or Input Out are irritating, but there's a kind of junk beauty in it. It reminds me of donation messages to streamers with repititive sounds, lol.
Besides that, I had a great time with this album. Moreover, I listened to it twice!
I don't know electronic music very well. I guess it's not a masterpiece for the ages, but I like it, especially for background listening.

Prince makes sexy songs, alright. Better than Michael Jackson by the way.
My eyeballs popped out when I found out about the “Purple Rain” movie. The film and the album are one whole idea. I’ll watch it, I have to see it.
Why the fuck do we need The Weeknd’s Die For You when we already have I Would Die 4 U by Prince.
Prince is a master and innovator, The Weeknd is a copycat. (I’m being too harsh on The Weeknd, it’s just a trolling-roasting mood)
Wtf, The Weeknd even copied the idea of creating low-quality movies with his own acting, that’s such a shame for him.
I was writing it while listening Purple Rain and there’s a line “I never wanted to be your weekend lover”. Even Prince didn’t love The Weeknd.
Well, back to the album. Yeah, it’s impactful, well written, Prince made almost everything alone. He’s kind of the Kevin Parker of the 80s, but on a bigger scale.
That’s wow, because Michael Jackson is like Frank Sinatra — voice + performer. That’s all, not the author and musician. That’s not bad, just they’re living on different planets. And I rate it differently, I’m biased towards standalone authors.
Prince is everything everywhere all at once. That’s a huge respect to the dude. He was an author, a producer, a performer, a voice. He even made a whole soundtrack album for Batman by Tim Burton! What a legend. Genius.
I didn’t fully catch the vibe of the album, but I’ll update my review couple days later after watching the movie and maybe I’ll add more songs to my playlist.

It's quite original and there are so many styles on this album.
This album feels like a Tim Burton movie about a Caribbean drunk bum during Halloween.
The storytelling across these songs is fucking amazing.

I'D BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ALBUM.
I had already listened to Dire Straits Brother In Arms in December, but I really wanted to hear it!
I had 3 out of 9 songs in my playlist and very high expectations.
Honestly, it’s a tough call which one is better, both are great.
And yes, this is perfection, I don’t believe it’s a debut album.
Water of love is such a beautiful ballad, I'm shocked.
Southbound Again and In The Gallery are less enjoyable for me.
Everything else is phenomenal.

It’s an easy listen — kind of pop metal and very accessible, though not everyone enjoys it, and that's fine. I was shocked while reading reviews because there are so many snobby reviews with low ratings. Some people call it outdated or annoying, but I think it’s just a chill, fun and classic album.

I know Willie Nelson has a lot of music, but when I read it was his 22nd studio album….I mean, wtf. I asked Grok how many he has. He has fucking 104 studio albums (78 solo + 26 collaborative ones). Mind-blowing.
It’s a full cover album, all of the songs are American standards (Great American Songbook), but performed in Willie Nelson’s style.
Some facts:
- Stayed at #1 on the Billboard Country Albums chart for years (over a decade in total on the charts)
- Sold more than 5 million copies in the US alone
- Produced three #1 country hits: "Georgia on My Mind," "Blue Skies," and "All of Me"
Great.

I don't understand. It feels like a good album, nice music, but not enough in general. I think because it's a very transitional album.
I feel like it's influential, somewhere between one decade's sound and the next. Like the transition from glam rock in Bowie's style plus rock, but it's already a kind of synth-pop sound, but not really a synth-pop.
"You can't have your cake and eat it too"
It's really good technically and etc, but...Do I want to listen to it? Probably no. If it occurs on a radio, I'll be jovial to hear a Quiet Life or Fall In Love With Me, or Alien. It's all good music, I respect a try of mixing all of this, but I don't want it in my playlist.

It's a shame that The Papas & The Mamas (1968) isn't on the list, because I want to listen to it too.
I don't know why, maybe because it's dogshit in Dimery's opinion and he is a dick. I have at least two liked songs from that album in my playlist. Anyways, I'll listen to it outside the challenge.
If You Can Believe Your Eyes & Ears is an incredible album, very 60s. It's trying to copy everyone and be unique at the same time - and it works.
I'm a little biased. I love the band so much, their style and songs, even if they're not always perfect. I like how they work with vocals, mixing voices. Their vocal harmonies are fantastic.
Maybe it's not universally praised as a classic, but I enjoy these vibes so much. It's a classic for me.
Can you even imagine pushing a debut album with such a hit as California Dreamin'?
It's a fucking anthem. I've listened to it over 50 times and my target is 100 streams by 2030.

It has vibes of Bowie’s Blackstar album. It was also written right before his death, deep and dark topics and etc. Both were released in 2016.
But in general, I have difficulty listening to this now. It’s not the right kind of music for me right now. It’ll resonate better later.
However, I enjoy it. It’s like poetry with music, cool. Because he actually was a published poet before becoming a musician.

Album 86. Blackstar — David Bowie (2016)
Omg, I just mentioned this album a couple days ago in Leonard Cohen's review and here we go — Bowie's Blackstar ★
It was released on January 8th 2016. Bowie died on January 10th 2016. So, all this just hit its 10-year anniversary.
It's a phenomenon. Bowie transformed his death into art.
He created another experimental album just before his death. It's art rock with different styles of jazz.
Even Kendrick Lamar and Death grips influenced this. That's mind-blowing for me.
Bowie was cutting-edge to the end.
He created it looking into death's eyes. Each track can be interpreted at least as autobiographical, as fiction or as philosophical message.
And the album has all sorts of feelings and emotions: acceptance and rage; despair and hope; fear and irony. Everything.
It makes the album much more multilayered. It's one of the reasons why it's so hard to listen to for me.
Another reason, when playing this, you feel like you're in a cemetery. I have these associations. It's a cemetery record.
Blackstar is a death trip.
Blackstar is the death of his last persona — David Bowie.

French hip hop with a great flow? Viiiibeeesss
It’s so cool and unusual. I've heard maybe a couple French rap tracks ever.
French hip hop has exceptional sound and style.
Flow and rhythm are so smooth and easy to listen to.
It’s funky and jazzy. I love it, but I don’t understand it lol. I had to read lyrics translation of some songs later, it sucks.
I’m getting high when I hear a mix of hip hop and jazz. It conquers new frontiers of music sound for me. Blends like this simultaneously combine extremely chill sound and masterful rapping technique. It’s fucking brilliant.
It's like french A Tribe Called Quest, The Pharcyde, Gang Starr or something else.
Unfortunately, language barrier kills 50% of the album for me, I'd like to rate it even better. It would easily be 4 out of 5 if it were in English. Lyrics are crucial and critical in rap. I just can't understand his clever wordplay, puns, references in French.
Afterthought. Despite the language barrier, I want more French hip hop.

Lyrics are shallow, boring and plain. Voice and technique are shit. Beats are decent.
This album is about hypocrisy? Sure, it’s hypocritical leftist propaganda disguised as hip-hop, spreading an anti-capitalist message by using capitalist infrastructure. Fuck you dude.
