One of the worst albums I've ever heard

Their best album. Lost their way not long after this. Best tracks Clocks and Amsterdam

It's called Homework. So I'm marking it as a D Minus. Must do better

First side of this album is pure perfection. Loses its way a little on side 2. Exquisite production by Thomas Dolby

Similar to the Doors at times. Better than I expected.

I've been listening to this album for over fifty years. Still love it. Hopefully I'll get to listen for another fifty.

The track Sagar(The Ocean) ticked the boxes. The rest was largely forgettable

When this came up I expected to hate this however it wasn't quite as bad as expected. Nice production, ok songs, terrible singing.

Not usually what I would listen to however the back story of how it was made was intriguing. There is no denying the talent on display here.

First ever listen to this. None of the songs hang around too long. Will need to listen a few more times but enjoyed this

Not a bad album to start a career with but far better would follow. Psycho Killer is the best track by a mile

My first ever listen. Great guitar playing. Good production. There is some great stuff on this however it seems to lack focus on some tracks. At the minute I would rate this at 4.5 stars. Need to listen to again however I can see why it is loved.

Not for me. All tracks are too similar.

Beautiful voice. Really good production. It's a bit like eating cake. It really sweet at first but eventually you know you've eaten too much and don't want any more. 3 stars

The actual music was interesting. I loved it when the cinematic strings appeared. Felt more like a soundtrack than an album.

Probably their best album. The energy keeps going till the end. Lyrics are a bit naive but still a decent listen

This is my favourite album from one of my favourite bands. I have played this album for over forty years and it still gives me goosebumps. Probably the most gorgeous sounding record ever. 5 stars

This is really two solo albums marketed as a double. Prefer disc 2 but average at best

Strange one this. Great in places. Awful in other's. The lyrics are pretty poor however the ambition to try something different is be applauded. Probably needs a few more listens

Sweet sounding folk rock but with nothing much to say. Best track was the last one which had a bit of bite to it. Average. Nice enough but wouldn't listen to again

Not my kind of thing. Sounds lovely as background music however it starts to grate after a time. Deserves to be on the list

I'm sorry to rate this low but I have no interest whatsoever in country music. This does absolutely nothing for me.

Lovely production. Nice voice. No songs. This sounds great but is no substance whatsoever. Sounds like it was written by AI before it existed.

Starts of with a bang and slowly loses momentum. This is the type of music I like but in reality it's just another average album. Probably rates higher because of the lack of competition around at the time. Good but not great.

Haven't listened to this in 20 years. Obviously Take Me Out is a classic however I was surprised by how well this stood up. Better than I remembered. Not quite 5 stars but close

Like a rockabilly mix of Bahaus and PIL without the ideas or talents of either. Other than a couple of decent tracks sounded like a ramshackle band playing for the first time

Unbelievable that this was released in 1978. Years ahead of its time and probably one of the most influential albums of all time. Classic

What a lovely album this is. The simple production enhances the the songs to an extra level. Raw emotion through the whole album in Young's voice and playing elevates it further. A must listen

Add in elements of the Beatles, Stones, Slade and Sex Pistols. Mix together with loads of attitude and posture and this is what you get. Yes the lyrics are basic as is the playing but in the end all tat matters is the end result. Classic

Pleasantly pleased. It was bettter than expected. Needs a few listens to fully appreciate. Will investigate further. I like Steven Wilson and now I see where gets some inspiration from.

A band at the very top of their game

Bland bland bland. Everything that is wrong with pop music today. Playing at a local clothes shop near you now.

Not really my thing however the guitars are strong throughout. Songs unremarkable and vocals terrible.

Haven't played this in years. Adventurous but still accessible. Some really nice tunes mixed with some tracks that miss the mark.

My second Sonic Youth album in 3 days. What have I done to deserve this. Cannot understand the hype with this band. Unmeasurable and tuneless. Found this one to be quite boring with no standout tracks. Sounds like a band trying to make a more mainstream album and failing

Pleasant enough listen however far too repetitive and boring. Serious editing required on some of the tracks

Not as bad as I feared however it's not something I'll ever listen to again.

Very solid debut album. Listening to this you can see the sound of the band was already fully formed. Probably not their best however a pleasurable listen

Does it live up to the hype. Probably however this is not punk. It's more like storytelling with a tune.

This album starts of with a classic. Alone Again Or has always been a great song. However nothing else on the album comes close to matching. Most of the rest is pretty uninspiring with some of the worst lyrics ever put on record.

The singles are OK but the rest is nothing special. The album tails of badly near the end. Not one I will ever listen to again.

Beautiful voice and nice lazy vibe. However this is just background music. I can see why it was popular but it's hardly earth shattering. Does it deserve a place on this list. Probably not

Not a big lover of rap. The first couple of tracks were OK however it steadily got worse to the point of wishing it would end.

This was unexpected. The eighties was probably my favorite decade for music. Never heard this band before. Probably a mixture of Lloyd Cole, Waterboys and Icicle Works. Decent album. Some good tunes. Will need to investigate further.

Spellbound is a cracking start and the quality doesn't drop until the last two songs. Possibly their best album. Siouxsies voice oozes tension and all the band are on great form.

A fitting end to a magnificent career. Probably his best album since Outside. To make an album as bold and diverse as this at 68 and knowing this will be your last is truly remarkable. Genius

I bought a lot of albums in 1982. This was not one of them. Never heard it until today. The singles are OK however the rest is rather uninspiring jazz funk workouts. To be fair the band are tight and nice clean production. Just not my thing sorry.

My Back Pages is the clear standout track. Unfortunately none of the other tracks get close to it. Rather uneven and less cohesive than other Byrds albums

This was the first Prince album I ever bought on the strength of When Doves Cry. At first I wasn't sure but it has grown over the years. Maybe not his best album but close.

Don't see how this is on the list. Just wanted it to end. Last song was ok

Basically a Bowie album with Iggys lyrics and vocal. Probably on a par with Heroes album.

All over the place. Some ok tracks and some atrocious. Mix the Kinks, Doors and Love then add no originality whatsoever.

Another album that does nothing for me. Obviously a 62 year old white male in not the target audience.

Haven't heard this before but was aware of some of the singles. OK it not revolutionary however it has has cracking tunes and a great production. Rock music made for the charts. A guilty pleasure.

This is a band fully formed on its debut and knowing that they are already one of the greatest bands in the world at that time. So much confidence in the performance. Tracks are good but better will follow. Tails off a little towards the end

Hard one to rate. Unusual production and instrumentation. Way ahead of its time. God Only Knows is a classic. However it just doesn't click with me entirely. I can see why it's so highly rated and definitely needs to be on this list. One day I might give it 5 stars but not today

This illustrates exactly what is wrong with most music made today. Average at best songs. Slick production. Fake emotional vocals. All completely safe sterile no risk and no rewards for the listener. Adele clearly has talent but anything close to originality has been erased

Never heard of him before. When it started I thought "Oh this is different". However as it went on it just became more and more monotonous.

I enjoyed this. The vocals and harmonies worked well and the chimining guitars you can see have had a big influence elsewhere. Sometimes they vere to close to the Beatles and We'll Meet Again should never have made the record. Four stars

The two covers are the start are the best. It's loses its way after that. The band are good and it sounds almost like a live recording. I don't mind the production. I think it enhances the music. Would have scored higher if the bands composed songs were better quality.

I tried to like this. She has got a lovely voice and the production is spot on. Unfortunately it just doesn't click with me. Yes she has talent. Maybe I'm the issue

Punk music before it was invented. Iggy sounds great on this and the band sound good. My only issue is some songs overstay their welcome.

Well. I'm not the target audience for this. I'm an overweight 60 something male but to be honest it was OK. Production very inventive, songs slight but unoffensive. Probably 20 minutes over long.

Not a fan of reggae however Bob has a lot of talent. Side one is listenable while rhe second side is almost a greatest hits.

Probably one of the most overrated albums of all time

Another average album on this list. Decent songs but no real variety in style. The singer also lacks a distinctive voice. I know they are trying to create an eighties type sound but it lacks the spark of that decades music

It's a bit front heavy. It's probably overrated. But it is influential probably in the same way as sex pispols were 15 years earlier. It's not a great album but very good 9/10

That was a pleasant surprise. Jazz is not my go to in music. First track was OK however second track was far better and I felt I was getting into it. I'm more a fan of alternative rock and heard similarities with Radiohead and Talk Talk. Anyway must try is listen some more.

AOR it is however some of this is quite nice although some of the synth sounds have dated badly.

Not bad. A few interesting ideas here. Definitely influenced by British eighties indie with shades of cure, cocteaus, Mary chain and joy division running through these tracks. Must investigate further.

Almost like listening to a greatest hits album. Some lovely songs. Some are just average. You can see why it sold so well. Music for a Sunday afternoon

Not my thing.

If you watch 0certain types of movie this music is either liked by teenage boys or serial killers. Now I am neither of these but is was OK. Drumming was good.

I realise this was an important political album but it left me cold

Probably aware of half the songs on this. Higher Ground was my favorite as it's so damn funky. Some hits and a couple of misses. I look forward to hearing more Stevie

This is a guilty pleasure of mine. Been listening to this for 25 years and it still sounds good. A bit flabby in the middle but the first 3 and last 3 songs are fantastic including the Soft Cell cover.

Very raw. She has a lot of talent however the songs are a bit weak. 3 stars only.

Excellent album. Probably not quite as good as music for the masses. The production is clean and clinical and Enjoy the silence and personal jesus are two of their best. Unfortunately the quality tailed off after this

Relentless. Starts of with a banger and ends with one. Never really loses steam. Only downside is lyrically could be better. Great album to work out to.

I remember this got rave reviews upon release. This is my first listen however there's not much to get excited by. I'm aware of the hits and they are mostly good songs but some of the other tracks are very poor in comparison. Average at best

Not an expert on Black Sabbath but I quite enjoyed this. Not as heavy as I expected and some decent tunes.

A fan of Neil Young but less familiar with the other three. A decent collection of tracks with the first track and Young's contributions the highlights. Excellent but not essential.

OK but nothing special. I knew the singles and they are probably the best tracks. Why do so many of these albums have skits because the ones on this are embarrassing at best.

That was a strange listen. Some of this was very good. Some of it was awful. I can see that this must have had an influence on the Doors. Songs average at best however the music is way ahead of its time. Sitting on the fence here probably 6.5 out of 10

Very good album. Tracy has a distinctive voice and uses it to its full potential. Lyrics are very relatable to current issues. Is it a 5 star album. Not quite but highly recommended.

I have been listening to this since it's release. It's a unique record as deserves a place on this list. A beautiful dreamlike listen a Holes is a masterpiece.

Would be more entertaining if Mr Waits could sing. Like listening to Rod Stewart with laryngitis. Songs were OK however although the instrumental didn't seem to fit with the rest of the album

Mix the worst of Billy Joel and Barry Minilow and you end up with this.

I know a few of his songs. Some I like some I don't so this was a first time listen to a full album start to finish. I have to say it was bettter than expected. It's has a 70s fell about it. Good songs mostly. Good production and the band are tight. An American Elton John. Not quite but I did enjoy this and will investigate further

Tiny Dancer is a great track however nothing else on the album is the same quality. I think he is still finding his feet at this point. Production is spot on. Better is still to come

The first track is called Dirge. That kind of sums this one up. No variety. Every track sounds similar. Iggy Pop is the best thing on this album but in the end it's too monotonous and boring.

Solid collection of tracks bookended with hey hey my my. An enjoyable listen with some pre grunge sounds on side 2.

Pleasant collection of songs but nothing special. There is a comfortable old fashioned production on this. Like most long playing recordings from the early sixties more a collection of hits with filler rather than a proper album. On the plus side Solomon is a good singer but just let down by uninspiring material

Pointless waste of 45 minutes

This must have been mind blowing when it first came out. Unlike anything else at the time

This is one of the most influential albums of the late seventies. It predicts the rise of synthesiser music which came to dominate in the next decade. Although it is a full year after the Human League's Reproduction album this one captured the minds of the British public. The sound of the album is like a dystopian future and still sounds like nothing else to this day. 5 stars

The three singles are great but there is so much filler on this. A lot of the tracks are just reworkings of these three songs plus some less interesting stuff. Average at best

I have tried in the past to understand Steely Dan however their appeal still eludes me. Pleasant enough but nothing to warrant another listen. Maybe one day

There is a song called I've had enough. That sums ups how this one went. There are two types of music that I just can't relate to. One is country and the other is western. (Blues Brothers reference)

Two country albums in a row. This one just seemed to be the same song repeated over and over with slightly different lyrics and at different tempos. No originality whatsoever and probably one of the worst albums I've ever heard. Sorry

This is complicated. I loved the production, the sounds, the playfulness and the ambition however I am not a big fan of Bjork's voice. Unfortunately I can't remember any of the melodies. Great effort but falls on the final hurdle. 7 out of 10

Prabably the best Beatles album. Possibly the best album of all time. No words can convey how good this is.

Boring and monotonous. Not foe me

I bought this album when it came out. Played it probably 3 times then never listened to it again. Playing it now it's not as bad as I remember.

A bit patchy but there was some good stuff on this and I'm a white guy in his sixties

Average pop punk probably missing the boat by about 3 to 4 years. Pleasant listen but nothing to set the pulse racing

I always thought clapton was overrated as a guitarist and this has not changed my mind. Very average songwriting and even Layla goes on far too long.

I don't know much about Elliott but I believe he committed suicide shortly after this was released. He did have a talent judging by this but obviously he had issues. It's a pity as I believe hhe would have become a larger force in music in later years. Another one gone too soon.

What a strange album. It's contains one of the worst songs I've ever heard (The Stevie Wonder luv in) and one of the greatest rap songs of all time. Was going to give it 2 stars but because it contains The Message I'll add an extra star

An ok record. Nothing really special here however it was sunny and quiet yesterday and that sums up what this is about. Music to relax you.

Decent enough debut album. The band appear to be having fun and the production is spot on. Some of the Somes are a bit forgettable however Planet Claire and Rock Lobster are classics. 4 stars if you don't take your music too seriously

Bookended by the two best Duran songs ever. The is the band at the top of their game just before super stardom arrived. A good solid set of tracks with no clunkers.

That was lame and tame. The Sweet and Alice Cooper were so much better at this type of glam. At least it was only 35 minutes long

Unlike most reviews I heard all the 70s albums before any greatest hits. This is probably in the top three Queen albums although I don't think they made a truly great album. However what you will hear is loads of invention, four completely different styles of songwriting and immense production. They copied no one and nobody has come close to their sound although Muse do try sometimes. Unique

Not very thrilling to be fair. A decent collection of songs however the singer is very generic. Really just another faceless ppst millennium indie band.

The Police were never a great albums band. The singles are superb however and the band just gel so tightly. Should be 3 stars but Message In A Bottle is one of the greatest singles ever so an extra star given

4 classic Bowie songs, 1 strange little tune thats lots of fun and one of the greatest covers of all time. What's not to like. Its peak Bowie and that can only mean one thing. 5 stars

This is a very good album but I don't think its a classic. It may not even be the best album by the band. First half is strong however it gets a bit saggy in the middle before ending strong. Especially the last 2 tracks. 4 stars

I bought this when first released as I liked the single Money's Too Tight. Probably only played in two to three times in those 40 years as I wasn't that impressed. However I must be getting old or my tastes have changed because I quite enjoyed this. It shouldn't be on the list but 7/10 would be a fair score so a low 4 stars
