Pearl Jam • 5/5
One of the greatest grunge/rock- bands of our time with their debut- milestone. Full of rock-classics lead by "Alive"! But especially in terms of a whole album and the talent of each single member of the band - simply outstanding! With this album Pearl Jam opened the door to the 90's for melodic, emotional, hard-rock using the key of grunge. And there where still a bunch of more great Pearl Jam albums to come! Ten stars out of five ;)

Tom Waits
3/5
His voice is really not my favour but somehow fits better to the bluesy style on this album than on his albums from this list I had prior.
Weak three stars and no heartattack for this.

Joni Mitchell

I'm sorry - but I can't stand her high voice. And there is not a single song on this album to hook me. No pleasure to listen to this one for me.

Led Zeppelin
3/5
Although I´m not a Led Zeppelin fan and I have heard it a thousand times, I can´t resit "Whole Lotta Love".
"Thank You" and "Ramble On" are good as well.
Overall a pretty good classic rock album but not exactly my jam.

Public Enemy

I appreciate their lyrical points but I simply can´t stand one hour of hip hop.
favourite: "Can't Do Nuttin' For Ya, Man!"

I like those beats combined with the guitar on "Rock Box".
"Hard Times" is ok. And "It´s Like That" is an classic!

Janis Joplin
3/5
iconic Bobby McGee and Mercedes Benz
overall I don´t like the voice
Living Colour
3/5
very solid 80´s (Funk-/Hard-)Rock with relevant lyrics
best-known: Cult of Personality and Glamour Boys
similar to the band Extreme
Common
2/5
Leaves me without any emotions
Kanye West
1/5
below average, boring and much too long
Paul Simon
4/5
I like the guitar-play.
Over all a very solid album without smashhits or fails.
Not an easy 4-star-rating but for sure better than average. Feels more like a 3.5.
Miles Davis
2/5
I´m really not into jazz.
Even if the album had influenced many musicians and might be instrumental brilliant, for me it´s just background music in a bar. Sorry for that.
3/5
nice to listen to.
I like the music and the musical concept of the album but
I dig it down one star because I don´t like the vocals.
LCD Soundsystem
4/5
Nice beats keep my feet moving.
Sounds a bit like an electronic version of "The Strokes".
Highlights: North American Scum, All My Friends, Watch The Tapes, New York,... - but also some weaker numbers.
Rufus Wainwright
1/5
It was hard to even stand the first song.
The rest of the album varies from an "Radiohead"-arrangement for either a church- or a cat- choir.
Beatles
4/5
Because it´s just the Beatles I had to listen to it several times.
At the date of release "Revolver" had sure been a 10 out of 5 stars.
But from todays perspective for me it´s just a very good, well aged album.
Aretha Franklin
3/5
nice and groovy but not really my favorite style of music
best known: chain of fools
David Ackles
2/5
Over all a well crafted, round album.
Instrumantally too much 60´s.
T. Rex
3/5
Besides the well known "Metal Guru" - that got me hooked the whole day - it´s just a solid classic rock album.
The xx
3/5
"The XX" created an unique sound that you identify directly when you hear it. Nothing I would like to listen on further albums. But anytime I pick this special one it works perfect for me as an album and I listen to it with pleasure.
By the way: The first generated album from the list I actually own. 😉
John Lennon
4/5
Of corse the song "Imagine" stands out.
"Jealous Guy", "Crippled Inside", "How Do You Sleep?" and "Gimme Some Truth" are not bad. Compared to his big name it didn´t fully match my expectations!
Robert Wyatt
1/5
Gave it a few tries but even as a Radiohead-fan I can´t get used to this.
I really can´t stand this vocals and had to rate it down further just because of the voice.
Kraftwerk
4/5
Timeless
MGMT
3/5
"Kids" blasts.
The rest sounds more like a wannabe.
Very ambitious - but failed for me.
Elliott Smith
2/5
Solid Indie-Folk-Rock-album.
Unfortunately not even a single song stands out and stood in my head.
2.5
Happy Mondays
2/5
80s (disco-)rock that not hooks me any more.
Not a single rememberable song.
Beatles
4/5
Just The Beatles! It seems they had not been able to do a bad or at least an average album.
favorite: Come Together
worst: Oh! Darling
4,5
Madonna
3/5
Even the hits "Ray of Light", "Frozen" and "Power of Goodbye" don´t convince me at all.
The rest is not remarkable and therefore the whole album is much too long.
Dolly Parton
3/5
Very nice, good-old-fashioned country-music.
Slightly aged.
Billy Bragg
3/5
Never heard of him before and I was quite surprised by this album.
Sounds like Bob Dylan and The Clash are having a pint together. 😉
3,5
The Go-Go's
4/5
Never heared of them before. Somehow the sound reminds me on "The Bangles" which I like. Musically a blast. Fun to listen to although the vocals are not my favorite. A tricky 3,5-stars-rating turned into a 4 by the cover-artwork.
The Human League
2/5
OK - there ist the hit-single "Don´t You Want Me".
But overall it´s not my thing.
Bad Brains
2/5
solid hard-rock with metal-touch but nothing remarkable.
GZA
2/5
I´m really not into Hip-Hop/Rap but this one sucks less than others.
The Young Gods
1/5
From the musical point of view worth listening, although it´s not my favorite gengre.
The stupid screaming in some songs destroys the whole thing a lot for me.
1,5
Gotan Project
3/5
For the first run it seems like background-music but it is better than that.
It has a nice groove and is instrumentally very good. A mixture between traditonal elements, jazz and club music.
Soft Cell
2/5
The hit-single "Tainted Love" stands out but the rest feels more or less like the title of the opening-track - "Frustation".
Miles Davis
2/5
For sure musically great but simply not my prefered gengre.
B.B. King
3/5
How would this one sound with modern live-recording-technology even it is already that good.
Caetano Veloso
2/5
Remembers me on some film-music from the sixties. A pleasant diversion from the recent albums. But sounds a bit too aged for my taste.
Funkadelic
2/5
The opener leaves me with the question why don´t switch directly to an Hendrix-album. The middle-section (tracks 2-6) is nice and groovy. The last song again quite weird...
After the first look at the cover and some reviews I had high expectations on this album. Unfortunately they were not matched. Definitely not my every-day-choise.
2,5
Belle & Sebastian
2/5
Nice brit-pop but nothing special. Especially the inexpressive voice don´t convinces me and messes up the whole album. 2,5
Christina Aguilera
3/5
Very listenable, well produced pop-album with the hit-single "Beautiful". Maybe little too long.
Billie Holiday
1/5
Sorry for that, but what the hell have a ruined voice with an uninspired orchestra to do on this list.
Thin Lizzy
3/5
Solid live-rock-album with the all their hits.
I generally question the significanse of that kind of a live-album for this list.
2,5
Prince
3/5
Nice, groovy beats the whole album long.
Most of the time I like the music more than the vocals and lyrics on this.
The additional songs on the double LP compared with the single vinyl edition cost him the fourth star. Sometimes less is more!
Favourite songs: "1999", "Free", "International Lover"
Soft Machine
1/5
Never heared of Jazz-Rock before. Musically not bad and after tracks 1 and 2 I´m on at least 2 stars for that. But the voice on track 3 is an imposition. And why is there over 4 minutes annoying noise on track 4 before the music starts. I really don´t like to be pissed of by an album.
Minor Threat
3/5
This one comes over like a thunderstorm. Short and heavy. Not my every-day pick. Nevertheless I like the sound and with less sreaming it would be an easy 3-stars-rate.
2,5
Robert Wyatt
1/5
Oh my god. I´m so sick of all that Robert Wyatt stuff!
Are there really no other remarkable albums in this world from someone who at least can sing?
Amy Winehouse
3/5
Nice beat, great voice. A pleasure to listen although there are no hit singles on it.
The Monks
4/5
Never heared of them before.
At the one hand sounds very much like 60´s and on the other hand very vital. Reminds me on various later bands that I love!
3,5
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
4/5
There it comes to light - the unique Tom-Petty-sound. And there are the first of his hits: "Breakdown", "Anything That´s Rock´n´Roll" and "American Girl".
Fleetwood Mac
2/5
Just OK. Not a single outstanding song and overall too long to be good :(
Lenny Kravitz
3/5
Lenny has the ability to play some nice guitar riffs. There are also some sparks like the well known songs "Let Love Rule", "I Build This Garden For Us" and first of all "Mr. Cab Driver". The rest of the album bores me or sucks most of the time.
2,5
Napalm Death
1/5
This one gives me headache.
If I want to hear speed-metal I pick a Metallica-album
and if I want to hear someone upchuck than I go out and have a party.
Tricky
2/5
Few nice and groovy elements, but overall it did nothing to me.
Too much downbeat.
Favourite: "Black Steel"
R.E.M.
4/5
Although I´m familiar with R.E.M. I have never heared this whole album before. And surprisingly one can already find all of their genius on this debut but not in the later perfection.
Favourite: "Radio Free Europe", "Pilgrimage", "Sitting Still"...
Mj Cole
2/5
Like the Album-Cover indicates - Buy this one and burn it immediatly.
Boring, repetitive, trivial and therefore way too long.
Neither I hate this album at all nor it sucks but I could´nt care less about it.
1,5
Richard Thompson
3/5
Very solid folk-album. I like the vocals and the music although it is not very diversified. Not a clear 3-stars-rating.
2,5
Ray Charles
2/5
Very listenable although it is not my favorite style of music.
Often reminds me on christmas songs. ;)
Jimi Hendrix
3/5
I´m always struggling with Jimi Hendrix.
Of course there is his outstanding, groundbreaking guitarplay. But at the other hand the music is too much sixties for me and his vocals are also not my favour.
The rating-task becomes even more confusing with all the different editions.
The Stone Roses
3/5
I liked it although it is missing some hits.
"Fools Of Gold" at the end messes it up a bit. 2,5
Stevie Wonder
3/5
I generally appreciate Stevie Wonder, especially his vocals and his harmonica-play.
"Superstition" stands out and I like "You Are The Sunshine Of My Life", "Big Brother" and "Believe" but this whole album don´t clicks for me.
Bon Jovi
4/5
There is a reason this one is Bon Jovi´s best selling album!
It contains nearly all of their all-time-smash-hits like "You Give Love A Bad Name", "Livin´ On A Prayer", "Wanted Dead Or Alive" and "Never Say Goodbye", it is slightly diversified and has only a few weaker numbers.
Pretty good stadium-rock 🎸 to make you feel good, your shirt wet and the floor slippery. 😉
A crystal-clear ⭐⭐⭐⭐-rating
Neil Young & Crazy Horse
4/5
Oh, how do I love that Neil Young acoustic guitar with harmonica shit on the A-side! "My My, Hey Hey (Out Of The Blue)" is an anthem.
And how do I love the energy of that grungy B-side! 🤘🎸
By the way - "It´s better to burn out than to fade away..."😉
Beyond that the recording-quality of this album is outstanding.
I only rate it down one star because I question any kind of live-recordings on this list.
CHIC
2/5
The well-known "le freak"-loop is very catchy and "i want your love" is ok. The rest of the album sonds not that "Chic" but very repetitive to me and don´t convinces me at all.
The Allman Brothers Band
3/5
"At Fillmore East" contains some wonderful blues-rock-jams, is musically great and has got a pretty good recording quality.
I rate it down because I generally question live-albums on this list knowing this is probably the only way to capture a jam session. And maybe two 20-minutes-songs are too much?!
Eminem
2/5
Eminem has got a signature-sound that I like in almost every single song.
Although "The Slim Shady LP" is - compared to other hip-hop/rap-albums - quite entertaining, one hour of hip-hop/rap bores me. Simply not my prefered gengre. 🤷♂️
2,5
Tom Waits
2/5
A real alternative listening-experience. Sometimes weired, sometimes interesting and always with a driving beat.
That´s why I´m doing this project - but definitive not a every day choice.
2,5
John Martyn
4/5
Neither heared of John Martyn nor this album before.
Because the album "solid air" seemed quite challenging to me, I had to give it a few tries. And it is growing with every try. Very diversified Folk-Rock-Jazz. Not a single weak or aged number. Definitely worth listening!
But very hard for me to decide between 3 or 4 stars!
Louis Prima
2/5
Funny mood throughout the whole album.
Musically not exactly my cup of tea and in addition too aged for my taste.
Bob Dylan
3/5
I really like Bob Dylans Voice, his lyrics, his guitar- and harmonica-play in almost every single song on this album but for a whole album I am missing something extra. 🤷♂️
Favourite songs: "Blowin´in the Wind", "Masters of War", "A Hard Rain´s A-Gonna fall"
3,5
Alice Cooper
3/5
From nowadays perspective I really can´t see the magic of Alice Cooper in general and this special album any more.
Ok - there are some nice songs like "Elected", "Billion Dollar Babie" or "No More Mr. Nice Guy" but for me it´s just another classic/hard-rock-album. 🤷♂️
John Cale
3/5
The first three songs are nice and smooth-flowing.
"Andalucia", "Antarctica Starts Here" and "Half Past France" are a bit lame.
"Macbeth" finally has a nice beat and much more energy.
Overall I don´t like his expressionless voice.
2,5
Stevie Wonder
2/5
I really like Stevie Wonders voice and I love his harmonica-play.
But this special album doesn´t hook me at all. I find not a single remarkable song on it.
2,5
CHIC
2/5
If you want to learn how to stretch a good hook or musically idea or frase out until it sucks - this album is a perfect lesson.
Even from songs like "Good Times" I´m longing for a much shorter single-version. Boring and repetitive.
Bring it to the dancefloor but it´s simply not the stuff for an album!
XTC
2/5
After the fist few review I was looking forward to this album.
But what can I say: I got disappointed. Really nothing special there.
Portishead
3/5
The whole album is too less diversified and too much downbeat.
Sounds more like lounge- or film-music to me.
favourite: "Sour Times", "Wandering Stars", "Glory Box"
2,5
Television
4/5
Oh my god. This is a damn good album. How could I miss them until now? There are so many things on this record that I love at other bands (The Strokes, U2, ....) - except one thing: I would love to like the voice more.
Michael Jackson
4/5
I can´t understand the hype about Michael Jackson now, hadn´t understood it than.
Ok - This is a well-produced, million-selling album. And with "Beat It" and "Billie Jean" it contains some of his all-time favourite songs and most popular pop-songs ever. "Wanna Be Startin Somthin", "Thriller" and "Human Nature" are ok too.
But that´s it for me - and I strictly rate the music on this album and do not rate his controversial personality.
3,5
Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark
2/5
"Maid Of Orleans" alone don´t makes it a good album for me.
(I rated the 9-tracks original album.)
2,5
Nas
2/5
It´s just rap - but it´s ok.
Neil Young
4/5
Neil Young is always a solid pick for me.
And "After The Gold Rush" is a very well crafted round album without fails.
Favourite songs: "Southern Man", "When You Dance I Can Really Love"
Cream
3/5
"Sunshine Of Your Love" alone makes it a 3-stars-rate.
The rest of the album is listenable but too much sixties for me.
2,5
Pulp
5/5
The album starts strong and never lowers the level.
On top it has got the hit-singles "Common People" and "Disco 2000".
Very diversified. Fun to listen to every single time.
Britpop at it´s best. Simply a "Different Class" ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
While I actually own this one as a CD I'd like to give extra credit to the Cover-Concept and Artwork with the picture frame and all the different fotos.
Dirty Projectors
4/5
Band and album had been all new to me. And this album seems to divide the reviewers in Lovers🥰 and Haters🤮. For me it is somewhere in between.
I hear many things that I like. But it´s - like the strange title indicates - also very weird. Partly sounds like someone singing in a room with both the TV and the radio on.🥴
Glad to discover this interesting, alternative-listening-experience. Definitely not an every-day choise but I get more and more used to it.😉
Favourite: "Cannibal Resource", "Temecula Sunrise", "Useful Chamber", "No Intention"
Worst: "Remade Horizon", "Fluorescent Half Dome"
3,5
Big Star
2/5
My first thoughts while listening to this: "Smokie - or what?"
Just ok. But nothing special or remarkable for me.
2,5
Run-D.M.C.
3/5
I like those beats combined with the guitar on "Rock Box".
"Hard Times" is ok. And "It´s Like That" is an classic!
2,5
Elton John
3/5
Sounds like Elton John sounds. Some ok numbers like "Tiny Dancer" but overall too many versions of "Candle In The Wind" 😉
Not really bad but without his charismatic voice and personality noone would talk about a single song from this album.
2,5
U2
4/5
Gunfire drums, screaming guitars, relavant lyrics and melodies that stay in your ear all day long. This is what the "WAR"-album is about and it´s why U2 became rock-superstars! With "Sunday Bloody Sunday" and "New Year´s Day" it contains two eternal rock-anthems! Some weaker numbers cost it the fifth star for me.
4,5
The B-52's
2/5
Nice, driving beat the entire album long.
But beyond that, not my cup of tea.
Eagles
3/5
The two well-known songs "Take It Easy" and "Peaceful Easy Feeling" are taking you on an endless highway. But the rest of this album sounds just ok and maybe a bit aged to me.
Dexys Midnight Runners
3/5
Good mood the whole album long. I like the punkish sound with all the brass instruments.🎺 Very entertaining and round album without any outstanding titles. Musically ⭐⭐⭐⭐ but the vocals sometimes can be annoying.
3,5
The Chemical Brothers
1/5
20 seconds of "Block Rockin' Beats" are worth listening from this album because there is nothing remarkable more to come! Repetitive, boring and too long to be enjoyable anyway. 🙉
Really can´t understand how this album could top the charts. 🤦♂️
Dig a hole for this!😉
1,5
Norah Jones
2/5
Smooth Jazz-Pop. Nice voice. Music for a bar or jazz-club.
But bit too lame for my taste. Especially for an album on fathers-day! 😉
2,5
David Bowie
5/5
His Bowieness 👑 with another masterpiece!
Although the time of Bowies hit-singles is long over, one can find here only great songs. Very diversified. Excellent production. High creativity. And what I especially like is the rockish note.🎸
Over 50 minutes of musical pleasure. You can hear this album the whole day long without getting bored - and continue "The Next Day" the same way. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Solange
2/5
Can someone please, please take their food off the cat-tail.🙉
Sorry, but I´m really not into this boring r&b stuff.
1,5
Slipknot
1/5
Consistently nice, hard, driving beats and guitars 🤘 but the screaming voice can be annoying and destroys it a lot for me. One or another track might be ok, but I definitly can´t stand a whole album of this sort of music on every day!
1,5
Nina Simone
2/5
What a musical contrast to yesterdays Slipknot 😉
Not exactly my prefered style of music, but this album does me no harm. Overall a bit too aged for my taste.
2,5
The Rolling Stones
4/5
Never heared this whole album before, but within the first few seconds I´m already familar with this sound. Just the Stones. Unique voice, nice guitar-riffs, bluesy songs, lovely saxophone. 👄👅 Some of their well-known songs "Brown Sugar", "Wild Horses" and "Dead Flowers". Very round album.
Favourite: "Bitch", "Sister Morphine"
X-Ray Spex
2/5
The music is straight foreward but the vocals are annoying.
1,5
Gene Clark
2/5
Nice folk-rock but nothing rememberable.
2,5
Deep Purple
2/5
A real good live performance but I generally question live-albums on this list because it´s nothing but the greatest hits with a lot of instrumental solos.
Brian Eno
3/5
There is a reason Brian Eno is the go-to-guy for so many artists when it comes to music production. He´s got a lot of musically talent. But he is lacking at least a remarkable voice for beeing a solo artist.
Favourite: "Backwater", "Kurt´s Rejoinder", "King´s Lead Hat"
2,5
Otis Redding
3/5
Mostly very well performed cover-versions of well-know titles. Nice voice.
A bit too aged for my taste.
2,5
Britney Spears
3/5
Not really my jam, but everyone knows the song "...Baby One More Time". And yes - it´s a million-selling album with a few more hit-singles. But none of the other tracks on this album reaches the quality of the title-track.
Dire Straits
4/5
I can´t resist Marc Knopflers guitar-play 🎸 and I like his voice and the nice groovy swinging sound. The album contains some of their greatest hit ("Down To The Waterline", "Water Of Love" and "Sultan´s Of Swing") and no real fails.
3,5
Elvis Costello & The Attractions
3/5
Consistently nice songs with not a single track to really stand out. But for me it is always something fundamental missing?! Maybe it´s his inexpressive voice. 🤷♂️
favourite: "Green Shirt", "Goon Squad"
worst: "Senior Service", "Moods For Moderns"
3,5
The Who
2/5
For The Who- fans this must be a worship.
But I´m not so convinced with their music in special and with live-albums in general. The harmonica on the last track secures this album the second star.
1,5
The Cardigans
2/5
I can´t stand the voice. Over all quite boring. Just because of "Love Fool" I give them the second star.
1,5
SAULT
2/5
Nothing but solid background-music for me.
I definetly prefer the black album from Metallica😉🤘
50 Cent
2/5
It´s just Hip Hop but it´s ok. Maybe a bit too long.
Ray Charles
2/5
Not my cup of tea.🤷
Charles Mingus
1/5
I´m not into jazz. And this album is even more overtwisted than others. 🤯
Some nice tunes but in general no pleasure to listen to for me.
1,5
Death In Vegas
3/5
Mixed emotions for this album. Some parts I really enjoy, but sometimes especially the guitar is almost on the edge to annoying. And I miss some (decent) vocals on most of the tracks.
Not an easy 3-stars vote for me but with a few more tries I might get more used to it?!
Favorite: "Aisha", "Lever Street"
2,5
Pretenders
3/5
Nice beats, nice guitar but for any reason the whole album doesn´t hook me at all. Except the well known "Brass In Pocket" nothing remarkable for me.
2,5
1/5
Nothing but maddening saxophone and drum noise🥴
Worst album until now. 0/5
Jane's Addiction
3/5
"Been Caught Stealing" I have already known.
I like the base lines, the guitar and drums on this album but in total it doesn´t click for me.
Favourite: "Three Days"
Elvis Costello & The Attractions
4/5
This album has got almost every facet I love within music, except a decent voice. 🤷♂️ Doesn´t sound much like 70´s. Very vital. And it´s astonishing how many songs do remind me on other artists/bands I know. "Chelsea" for example could easily be a Red Hot Chili Peppers classic! 😉 Give it another singer and a modern production and it surely would be a blast even more.
Favorite: "Lipstick Vogue", "This Year´s Girl", "The Beat", "Pump It Up", "Radio Radio"
Radiohead
5/5
The second Radiohead-album I bought and still one of my favorite.
I love the atmospheric, melodic and energetic sound on this album with electronic elements, driving drumbeats and basslines and nice guitars. Very diversified.
Favorite tracks: "2 + 2 = 5", "Where I End and You Begin", "The Gloaming", "There there", "A Punchup at a Wedding"
4,5
The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion
3/5
Never heared of JSBE before, but I got quite surprised by this album.
Always wild, sometimes hard to digest, sometimes on the edge to annoying. But if you forget about the starting scream and the last track it´s most of the time fun to listen to. A weird mixture of Stones, Hives, AC/DC and Lenny Kravitz. Not an every day pick.
Circle Jerks
2/5
Intense 15 minutes of Punk.
Exactly the amount of this kind of music one can digest.
But I wouldn´t consider that an album! It´s just an EP and therefor I give them only two stars. 🤷♂️
2,5
Keith Jarrett
3/5
I would never have been listened to stuff like this away from the list.
But I really appreciate what I´m hearing. One can hear the talent and although it´s only piano it doesn´t become boring.
2,5
Kraftwerk
2/5
Exept the "Autobahn"-theme nothing to convince me. Just because it is considered as influential I did really expect a lot more from this record.
Michael Kiwanuka
4/5
Never heared of him before.
Sounds very much like 60´s to me. I like the atmospheric, dark sound of his voice with orchestra and distorted guitar.
Surprisingly this one was growing on me with every listen from background music to a very solid album.
Favourite: "You Ain´t The Problem", "Living In Denail", "Hero", "Rolling", "Final Days"
3,5
Jack White
4/5
Never listened to any Jack White outside of the White Stripes before. And there it is again: the energetic White Stripes- sound. 🎸🥁 🎹 But it has widened and developed. Not reduced and pure any more. Much more diversified and even more listenable. No fails.
Probably a ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ album but therefor I need a few more listens.
Favourite: "Sixteen Saltines", "Weep Themselves To Sleep", "Take Me With You When You Go"
The Rolling Stones
3/5
Yes - The Rolling Stones are a great band! And they all are great musicians! And they love to play music - especially the blues! And this album contains their classics "Tumbling Dice", "Sweet Virginia" and "Shine A Light". But like so many others they failed to hold my attention high for the length of a full double album. Even there is not a single bad song. But too less of them really stand out. Often less would be more. 🤷♂️
3,5
Lorde
2/5
Does me no harm.
The most remarkable thing about this album for me is its coverdesign.
Pink Floyd
3/5
Pink Floyd has always been solid elevator music for me. Can't understand what makes this album one of the best rated ones🤷♂️
2,5
Led Zeppelin
3/5
Although I´m not a Led Zeppelin fan and I have heard it a thousand times, I can´t resit "Whole Lotta Love".
"Thank You" and "Ramble On" are good as well.
Overall a pretty good classic rock album but not exactly my jam.
Elvis Costello
2/5
For me with Elvis Costello it´s almost like that: voice - meh; music - good.
But this time even the music doesn´t convince me. Pretty below average!
I can't see any reason why this album is on the list, because there are already other and even better Costello albums listed.
3/5
Not exactly my jam but I love the harmonica-play on this album.
3,5
Suicide
1/5
First I thought it´s just ok, but "Frankie Teardrop" made it almost unlistenable for me.
Beatles
4/5
I find it difficult to rate "The Beatles" down because everyone is so used to their songs and sound. And all the songs are short so they don´t suck or bore.
The A-side contains the best known "Drive My Car", "Nowhere Man" and "Michelle". The whole B-side for me is not at that level.
3,5
John Lennon
3/5
I love "Working Class Hero". "I Found Out" and "Remember" are ok. And I like the music on "Well, Well, Well". But I really don´t need to hear John Lennon scream on a record. One star down!
2,5
Sonic Youth
4/5
"100%", "Sugar Kane", "Theresa´s Sound-World", "Orange Rolls, Angel´s Spit", "Youth Against Fascism", "On The Strip", "Chapel Hill", "Purr" - consistently pretty good grungy songs.
But especially on the fist half of the album also some weaker tracks.
Hard for me to decide between 3 and 4 stars!
Beck
2/5
lame🥱
Klaxons
2/5
Sometimes reminds me on "Franz Ferdinand" with additional elements of rave- or electronic music or "The Prodigy". But I prefer the original! 🤷♂️
Just o.k.
Syd Barrett
2/5
Sounds like "The Beatles" without "The Beatles". Just o.k.
Steely Dan
4/5
"Rikki Don't Lose That Number" is the well-known opener of this high-quality pop-rock-jazz-blues-album. Not a weak song but also not a single banger for me.
3,5
George Harrison
2/5
A few highlights like "My Sweet Lord" or "What Is Life" but over all quite boring.
Every single song is way too long and therefore the whole album is much too long!
2,5
Os Mutantes
2/5
Here and then some nice guitar-hints like on "A Minha Menina", "Baby".
Nice change from the other albums but not really my jam and over all it sounds a bit too aged for me.
favourite: "Ave Gengis Khan"
Dizzee Rascal
1/5
Quit after track 3🤢
Aretha Franklin
3/5
Great voice but not really my favorite style of music.
"Respect" secures her the third star.
2,5
Nick Drake
2/5
🥱
Joy Division
3/5
Until today I had known Joy Division only by name.
I love the music (⭐⭐⭐⭐) especially the drum and bass work.
But as soon the vocals start I don´t like it that much any more.
Favourite: "Passover", "A Means to an End", "Twenty Four Hours"
Al Green
3/5
The whole album is very easy listening.
Great voice. Soulful music.
And of course the outstanding "Let's Stay Together".
Not exacly my jam but nonetheless really good.
3,5
Pixies
3/5
"Where Is My Mind?" is an absolut banger!⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
And I already loved "Cactus" as a cover by David Bowie not knowing the original is by The Pixies. 🤘 In general I like the music on almost every track.
But sometimes for instance on "Something Against You", "River Euphrates" or "Broken Face" I can´t handle the voices. One star down.
3,5
Sufjan Stevens
2/5
Interesting change from the other albums. Not bad although it is not my prefered style of music. Some nice pieces but not enought to keep my attention for over 70 minutes.
"The World's Columbian Exposition Part II...", "Chicago", "The Man of Metropolis Steals Our Hearts" and "They Are Night Zombies!!..." are remarkable for me.
2,5
Taylor Swift
2/5
Can she sing - yes.
Sounds every song the same - yes.
Well arranged boredom. 🥱
little highlights: "no body, no crime", "long story short"
The Strokes
5/5
Unique sound! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
36 intense minutes of energetic guitars and driving rhythm. 🎸🥁
Not a single weak song. Very catchy. Fun to listen to every time.🔁
Marvin Gaye
3/5
"What´s Going On" and "Mercy, Mercy Me" are the best known songs from this album. Great voice. Soulful music. But not exacly my jam.
Favourite: "Right On"
3,5
Astrud Gilberto
2/5
Not my cup of tea. Background music. Too aged.
Johnny Cash
3/5
An album I heared of so many times but had´nt listened to before.
I can´t resist this iconic performance ⭐⭐⭐⭐ although it is not my prefered style of music!
Because I generally question live-albums on this list I rate it down one star.
Carole King
4/5
There are so many songs on this album like "I Feel the Earth Move", "Beautiful", "You've Got a Friend", "Will You Love Me Tomorrow?" and "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman" that have crossed my way serveral times, not knowing they are from Carole King‼ Unbelievable🤦♂️
I love her voice and I like every song on this album although it´s not my prefered style of music. Feels almost like a greatest hits album! Great achievement!
4,5
Carpenters
2/5
Bit too lame and bit too aged for me.
Even the hit-single "Close To You" doesn´t convince me at all.
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
2/5
"Papa Won't Leave You, Henry" and "Brother, My Cup Is Empty" are o.k.
But the whole album don´t catches me at all.
N.W.A.
2/5
"Parental Discretion Iz Advised" has a nice groove.
Because of the Beastie Boys samples on "8 Ball (Remix)" this one is o.k. too.
One of the better hip-hop albums but still not my prefered stuff.
2,5
Deee-Lite
2/5
A few nice electronic pieces like on "Groove Is In The Heart" but definitely nothing to come back for me.
Ghostface Killah
2/5
Some really nice grooves. More diversified and more listenable than other hip hop stuff. But a full hour of hip hop is still too much for me. 🤷♂️
The Stooges
3/5
Nice and intense half hour of punk-rock. Musically I´m completely into it.
Gave it a few tries, but maybe just because of the vocals or the production or what ever it doesn´t fully click for me. 🤷♂️
Favourite: "Search and Destroy", "Gimme Danger", "Raw Power", "I Need Somebody"
3,5
Talking Heads
2/5
Musically almost funky or groovy. Of course "Psycho Killer" stands out.
But even on that song the voice is just annoying! 🙉
Buena Vista Social Club
3/5
❤❤❤❤❤ for "Chan Chan"!
A pleasure to listen to although it´s not my prefered style of music.
3,5
Joan Baez
1/5
Can´t stand the voice. Quit after track 3.
Butthole Surfers
2/5
Really not easy to digest. A bit too wild/weird for me although I´m into grunge/rock. A few more tracks like "Human Cannonball" or "Graveyard Pt. 2" would please me. Weak two stars for this.
1,5
Stereo MC's
3/5
Besides the well-known title track "Connected" and "Step It Up" nothing remarkable for me. Just 90s electronic music.
2,5
Girls Against Boys
3/5
Never heared of them before.
Musically reminds me very much of "Placebo" which I love - except the vocals. Not a single outstanding song but also no complete fails.
3,5
Metallica
5/5
Metallica at their most accessible. An instant ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐‼ I own this album for years and it still bangs like at first time. 🤘 The album is packed with Metallicas all-time classics. And none of these songs sounds aged. One hour of excellent power-metal!
UB40
3/5
Nice reggae album with no hits or fails. I like the cover artwork!
Favourite: "Tyler"
2,5
Metallica
3/5
I really like the concept of the album - metal with orchestra 🤘🎼!
But I would love if they would have dived even more into the orchestra arrengements! Because some songs fit better in this concept than others I would rather condense it to one disc.
Nonetheless it is almost a greatest hits collection.
3,5
Fleet Foxes
2/5
Never heared of them before.
Nothing remarkable.
Sounds too much like a church choir to me.
favourite: "Your Protector"
2,5
Joe Ely
2/5
Listenable, but old fashioned country music is not really my jam.
2,5
Tom Waits
2/5
Except "Goin' Out West" nothing that holds my attention. I like the music much more than the voice!
1,5
The Cure
2/5
There is already the "The Cure"-sound but nothing remarkable. 🥱
2,5
Ali Farka Touré
2/5
Just o.k. Easy listening.
Rufus Wainwright
2/5
He wants one and gets two.
best: "Movies of Myself", "14th Street" and "Beautiful Child"
Run-D.M.C.
4/5
Although I´m not into Hip-Hop I can´t resist the Run D.M.C. sound on this.
The album contains the bangers "It's Tricky" and "Walk This Way" and some other good tracks like "Raising Hell", "You Be Illin'" and "Proud to Be Black".
A pretty solid pick!
3,5
Haircut 100
3/5
Not a single outstanding track but constantly nice funky tunes of guitar, rhythm and brass instruments.
Buoyantly through the day!
Leonard Cohen
2/5
I like his voice. But nothing I would listen to a whole album long. Simply not my prefered style of music. 🥱
2,5
Baaba Maal
2/5
O.K. but not my jam🤷♂️
David Bowie
4/5
His Bowieness👑 shows his creativity and talent and will to reinvent himself for the last time.
Not his best but still a pretty strong album.
"Sue..." costs him the ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ for me.
Beyond that it´s a great production.
4,5
Maxwell
2/5
George Michael or what?
Just solid background music for me🤷
2,5
Public Enemy
2/5
Another never ending hour of hip hop without anything remarkable.
Fela Kuti
3/5
Nice change from the other albums.
I like the afro-and-jazz-combination.
But it´s hard to rate! The original two track LP is only an EP and therefore I would give it only two stars. The 4 tracks CD reissue is ok.
2,5
Barry Adamson
2/5
Maybe the imaginary film would be great. The music album definitely isn´t for me. Gave it a few tries but I really can´t see the genius so many others see here. 🤷♂️
best: "Miles", "Achieved in the Valley in the Dolls", "The Sweetest Embrace"
2,5
Mariah Carey
3/5
Impressive voice. But not really my jam.
Weak three stars for this.
best known: "Honey", "My All"
The Triffids
3/5
Nice pop-rock the whole album long but nothing to stand out.
(Rated the 12 tracks original release disc)
favourite: "Unmade Love", "Vagabond Holes"
The Doors
4/5
The Doors introduced with this album their unique sound of vocals, keyboards, guitar and drums.
It has got two eternal rock anthems with "Break On Through" and "Light My Fire" and except "End Of The Night" and "The End" (that got a bit too long for my taste) only strong tracks. Great debut!
4,5
1/5
Sounds like a bootleg to me. I generally like this kind of music and I´m sure it was a hell of experience to attend this concert 🤘 but neighter the recording quality nor the quality of the performance of the singer and the band matches my nowadays demands.
Because I generally question live albums on this list I rate it down further one star.
1,5
3/5
I like the music and energy of this punk rock album.
But the vocals are not my favour.
2,5
Bob Marley & The Wailers
3/5
The album contains the song "No Woman, No Cry" but not in the well known version. The rest of the album is o.k. Weak three stars for that.
2,5
Massive Attack
3/5
Slightly diversified, chilling electronic record.
best known: "Unfinished Sympathy"
worst: "One Love" just because of the vocals
Coldcut
3/5
The album in total is not my cup of tea.
Just because of the really good hit single "People Hold On" (feat. Lisa Stansfield) I give it the three stars.
Worst: "In Deep"
2,5
Incubus
3/5
The well-known "Drive" stands out.
"Privilege" and "Pardon Me" are o.k. too.
The rest of the album is just good, hard alternative rock but nothing special and a bit too same same for my taste.
Dusty Springfield
3/5
I like her voice and really enjoyed this album although there isn´t a single hit on and it mostly contains cover-versions.
favourite: "You Don't Own Me", "Will You Love Me Tomorrow"
2,5
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
3/5
I like the music but sometimes the vocals are not my favour.
favourite: "Maps", "Y Control"
2,5
Radiohead
5/5
This album hits my sweet spot.🍯
An epic, groundbreaking sound. Only great songs built up an even better unit.
Guitar, vocals, drums, bass, production - all is top notch. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Johnny Cash
3/5
Johnny Cash had the ability to build this unique, reduced, atmospheric sound of dark voice and guitar, so even all these cover-versions sound like Johnny Cash. And just because of the different origins of the songs this album sounds more diversified than other Johnny Cash albums. Nontheless a whole album of these sad songs is too much for me.
favourite: "Hurt", "Personal Jesus"
3,5
PJ Harvey
4/5
Only good and mostly raw indie-rock-songs.
But I´m not 100% into her voice.
favourite: "Dress", "Hair", "Joe"
weak four stars for this album
3,5
Stevie Wonder
3/5
This album held a few surprises for me, because I had not known that the blueprint for "Gangsta’s Paradise" with "Pastime Paradise" is by Stevie Wonder and George Michaels "As" is originally by Stevie Wonder too.
In addition there are the well known hits "Sir Duke", "Isn't She Lovely" and "Another Star". But besides all these hits the album is too long for me and has too many songs that don´t catch me at all.
As often - less would be more 🤷♂️
As always his harmonica-play is great!
3,5
Christina Aguilera
3/5
Besides "Aint No Other Man" and "Oh Mother" Disc one is just o.k. for me.
Disc two alone would easy be a 3+ pop album.
But both discs together are way too much!
favourite: "Candyman", "Hurt"
2,5
Little Richard
3/5
Some well-known songs like "Tutti Frutti" but over all bit too aged and bit too same same for my taste.
2,5
Ryan Adams
4/5
Nice coutry-rock album. Easy on the ears but maybe a bit too long?!
I like him most on this, when he is more into rock.
favourite: " New York, New York", "Firecracker", "Nobody Girl", "Gonna Make You Love Me", "Touch, Feel & Lose", "Tina Toledo´s Street Wlakin' Blues"
3,5
Super Furry Animals
2/5
This album has an even too big variety of sounds for my taste. And nothing that hooks me. Only things I have heared before by other artists in an even better way.
favourite: "Sidewalk Serfer Girl"
2,5
Peter Gabriel
4/5
The album contains his megahits "Red Rain", "Sledgehammer", "Don't Give Up" and "Big Time"! The other weaker numbers in this cost him the five stars for me.
Except the weaker ones "Peace On Earth" and "Grace" I like every song on this album. And of course there are the hits "Beautiful Day", "Stuck In A Moment..." and "Elevation".
Not as iconic like "The Joshua Tree" or "Achtung Baby" but a really nice and homogenic album. Weak ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐.
4,5
Neil Young
4/5
Of course "Heart Of Gold" as an all time heavyweight stands out!
Except the two weaker numbers "There´s A World" and "Words" only great songs on this album.
4,5
Travis
4/5
While having this album pop up, I immediately had "Why Does It Always Rain On Me" in my ear. This says a lot - about this specific song!
But "Writing To Reach You", "Driftwood", "The Last Laugh Of The Laughter" and "Turn" are good as well. Over all a well crafted, very melodic and melancholic album. Weak four stars for that.
favourite: "Blue Flashing Light" (hidden track😉)
3,5
Willie Nelson
2/5
Besides the harp-play, old-fashioned country is not my jam.
Finley Quaye
2/5
This more electronic kind of reggae is a nice change from the recent albums.
Never heared of him before but I don´t think I´ll come back.
Nothing that really hooks me.🤷♂️
favourite: "Sunday Shining", "Your Love Gets Sweeter"
The Smashing Pumpkins
2/5
I like their sound. And with the hit-singles "Tonight, Tonight", "Bullet With Butterfly Wings" and especially "1979"‼ they had the basis for 40 mindblowing minutes. But a double album with almost two hours running time is a task much greater artists have already failed. And so have the Smashing Pumpkins for me too! One star down for not cutting it down to the (great) essence.
2,5
Jimmy Smith
2/5
For me it´s only very good backgroundmusic in a bar.🤷♂️
2,5
Emerson, Lake & Palmer
1/5
1. I don´t like the synthe and doodle-doodle-sound.
2. I question live-albums on this list.
positive: it has only 38 minutes running-time.
Elis Regina
2/5
o.k. but not my jam. 🤷♂️
The Verve
4/5
O.K. some songs on this album might be a bit too long but with the anthems "Bittersweet Symphony" and "The Drugs Don´t Work" and other great songs like "Sonnet" and "Lucky Man" there would be enough potential for a ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐album with about 45 minutes playing time.
Unfortunately there is also a forgettable rest that makes it in total 76 minutes. 😞
3,5
Meat Loaf
5/5
I know - Everything on this album is that bombastic and always on the edge to too much - but I love it! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Parliament
2/5
Nice funky mood the whole album long - but nothing that hooks me.
2,5
The Dictators
3/5
35 minutes of nice punk rock, although there is no outstanding track.
2,5
Public Enemy
1/5
I appreciate their lyrical points but I simply can´t stand one hour of hip hop.
favourite: "Can't Do Nuttin' For Ya, Man!"
1,5
Buck Owens
2/5
Some nice tunes but a bit too old fashioned for me.
The Lemonheads
3/5
The original version of this album got quite short and holds nothing remarkable for me although I like this kind of 90´s rock. The later added "Mrs. Robinson"- cover version secures them the three stars.
The Streets
2/5
Pretty o.k. and listenable for a hip-hop album. Strong two stars.
2,5
Beastie Boys
4/5
Two Banger "(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party)" and "No Sleep Till Brooklyn" plus some more solid tracks add up to a nice rockish🤘🎸 hip-hop album in best Run D.M.C. style. Hard for me to decide between three and four stars.
3,5
a-ha
3/5
The album holds the three mega hits "Take On Me", "Hunting High And Low" and "The Sun Always Shines On TV". But the rest of the album is a bit too lame for my taste and don´t matches the quality of those three anthems.
3,5
Randy Newman
3/5
What I´ve learned: The well known "You Can Leave Your Hat On" by Joe Cocker is only a cover version😉 Never heared of Randy Newman before but this album is definitely worth a listen!
3,5
The White Stripes
5/5
For me this sound is the essence of rock.🎙🎸🥁🎹
No song like the other. The 50 minutes of the album fly by. A perfect workout for your speakers 🔊 and a chance to get to know all your neighbors.😉
David Crosby
2/5
Musically a bit lame but just o.k.
Sometimes his whining voice can be annoying.
worst: "Music Is Love", "I'd Swear There Was Somebody Here"
Black Sabbath
3/5
Oh man do I love "Paranoid" and "Iron Man"🤘
But for me the whole album turned from revolutionary then to just a good one now. 🤷♂️
Jeru The Damaja
2/5
One Certainty: The sun rises in the east and this kind of hip-hop holds nothing for me!
Eminem
3/5
Eminem has got that unique sound. And he has got the hits "Stan" and "The Real Slim Shady" on this. Quite strong album for a hip-hop act, but way too long. And "Kim" is hard to stand for me!
2,5
Fever Ray
2/5
It sometimes reminds me of "Bjork" but nothing stunning or remarkable.
Massive Attack
2/5
From a band called "massive attack" I expect something totally different.
But what you get is well crafted lounge music.🤷♂️
(For messing up "Light My Fire" I had to rate them down to zero stars!)
Lou Reed
4/5
Maybe this is an album David Bowie had missed to record by his own.
There is the great "Walk on the Wild Side". And I like "Satellite of Love" since the U2 Zoo TV live performance. Not a single weak track. But I´m not 100% into his vocals.
3,5
Cat Stevens
4/5
Because it´s not exactly my jam I had to give it a few tries before it clicked for me. Some (even too) beautiful songs on this! I can feel why many declare it a masterpiece.
favourite: "Where Do The Children Play?", "Wild World", "Sad Lisa", "Longer Boats" and "Father And Son"
Red Hot Chili Peppers
5/5
I own this album for years and have heared it a thousand times - but not recently. So I was quite surprised that - within this project - what I thought is an instant ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ turned into a tricky desicion. But even though from nowadays perspective there are some weaker tracks on the B-side there are still enough bangers and is more than enough quality and energy (especially in the bass- and guitarplay) to rock every party!
most favourite: "Otherside"
4,5
Nirvana
5/5
The best album by the second best band from Seattle😉
Except "Endless, Nameless" (hidden track) only banger🤘
Instant ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - Masterpiece‼
The Dave Brubeck Quartet

I´m not really into jazz but it´s a nice listen and just because of "Take Five" I give it the three stars.
2,5
Khaled
2/5
I´m not used to this kind of music but it´s a nice change from the recent albums. Musically O.K. But the album is way too long.
2,5
The Police
3/5
Nice driving rhythm the whole album long plus the hits "Message In A Bottle" and "Walking On The Moon". But I´m not 100% into his vocals.
Strong three stars for this album.
3,5
My Bloody Valentine
2/5
Some nice tunes but too often on the edge to annoying.
1,5
The Cure
2/5
Really nothing remarkable for me.
1,5
Beyoncé
1/5
I had to skip even through the shorter standard edition because there was nothing to find for me. If the most remarkable thing about this album is the release strategy, why should I hear it before I die?
1,5
Neil Young & Crazy Horse
3/5
Besides the songs "Cinnamon Girl", "Down By the River" and "Cowgirl in the Sand" just a solid Neil Young record.
Gorillaz
2/5
The only little highlight is "Clint Eastwood".
The rest of the album are only filler or even sucker for me.
1,5
Dexys Midnight Runners
2/5
This album has too less of what characterises the dexys for me.
Too less brass, too less good mood.
The "Sweet Home Alabama"-ish "One Of Those Things" is o.k.
favourite: "Listen To This"
2,5
The Rolling Stones
3/5
Two banger: "Sympathy For The Devil" and "Street Fighting Man"
The rest of the album is just solid Rolling Stones.
3,5
Frank Ocean
2/5
Just. o.k. but nothing remarkable for me. Far too much howling!
Iron Maiden
3/5
It´s just real solid classic metal but I like it. 🤘
I listened to the original 8 tracks edition and for me the later on the remastered edition added "Sanctuary" is not missing.
favourite: "Prowler", " Remember Tomorrow", "Running Free"
Bobby Womack
3/5
Nice voice, soulfull mood. Maybe a bit aged. No outstandig track.
Sometimes feels like a soundtrack to a Tarantino movie.
Weak three stars for this album.
2,5
Kraftwerk
2/5
Iconic and groundbreaking but not my cup of tea.
As usual for Kraftwerk the cover artwork is great!
Public Enemy
1/5
Easy decision for me: The album starts with a sucker and consistently holds the level.
Kanye West
2/5
More pop than hip-hop and more diversified and therefore more listenable than other hip-hop/rap albums. But still not my prefered gengre and way too long.
Bruce Springsteen
4/5
I can sing along almost every song. Some strong numbers like the titletrack or "Waiting On A Sunny Day". A few weaker numbers cost him the ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ stars for me🤷♂️.
A Tribe Called Quest
2/5
Some nice samples but over all it´s just Hip-Hop🤷♂️
Yes
1/5
Some nice instrumental pieces but it sounds aged to me! I don´t like the voice and over all it's too much doodledoodle.

Fun listen but nothing special.
Favourite: "Scooby Snacks"
2,5
Steely Dan
4/5
An very harmonic album an a real nice listen although there is no specific hit on this and it´s way too popish for my taste. Furthermore I don´t like the vocals.
I´m not enought the music- nerd to rate the album only just because of the virtuosity of the serveral musicians. Therefore weak four stars for this album.
3,5
Beatles
4/5
Another pretty strong Beatles album. Maybe their closest to five stars until now! "A Hard Day's Night", "I Should Have Known Better", "Can't Buy Me Love", "Things We Said Today" plus some filler.
4,5
Pavement
2/5
Although it´s one of my prefered gengres, the album neither convinces me musically nor especially vocally. 🤷♂️
favourite: "Trigger Cut"
2,5
The Jesus And Mary Chain
3/5
Sounds like a mixture between "Sisters Of Mercy" and "Travis" to me😉
Nice listen but I´m missing at least one banger.
The Velvet Underground
3/5
The voice of Nico is even worse than the one of Lou Reed.
Some nice tracks like "Run Run Run" but also some sucker like "Heroin" and "European Son".
3,5
Blur
4/5
"Girls And Boys", "End Of A Century", "Parklife", "Badhead", "The End", "This Is A Low": Britpop at it´s almost best?!
worst: "Bank Holiday"
3,5
Count Basie & His Orchestra
2/5
O.K. but not my jam.
Stan Getz
3/5
Nice album with the well known song "The Girl From Ipanema".
Great saxophone but in total not exacly my jam.
2,5
LL Cool J
2/5
It´s just hip-hop.🤷♂️
M.I.A.
1/5
I skipped every track!
Cocteau Twins
2/5
Never heard of them before, but missed nothing!
Whimpering voice and boring music.
The Band
3/5
Altlhough I´ve never heared of them before it sounds very familiar to me. Nice country/folk-rock album.
favourite: "The Weight"
3,5
Goldfrapp
2/5
O.K. but over all a bit too lame for my taste and often I find her high voice hard to stand.
favourite: "Caravan Girl"
2,5
The Vines
3/5
Never heared of them before.
Straight foreward but nothing special or remarkable.
I personally prefer the other australian band "Jet" instead.
2,5
Dire Straits
4/5
The four well known hits: "So Far Away", "Money For Nothing", "Walk Of Life" and "Brothers In Arms" plus the unique guitar-play make it a really strong album. Some weaker numbers like "Why Worry?" and "One World" cost them the five stars for me.
Queen
4/5
Four gifted musicians in a band that will become one of the greatest Rock Bands of the 70's and 80's are still looking for her own signature-sound on this album and by the way creating a proper Rock album.
Not my favourite Queen album but still way ahead of so many other albums on this selection.
Jazmine Sullivan
2/5
O.K. R&B album but I don´t like all the dialogue-tracks.
The Kinks
3/5
Slightly aged but entertaining beatles like rock album. Weak three stars for this album. (Listened to the UK and US edition.)
favourite: "The Village Green Preservation Society", "Do You Remember Walter", "Last of the Steam Powered Trains"
2,5
My Bloody Valentine
1/5
Something between boring and annoying.
Everything sounds like a porridge of sound with a pillow covering the speaker.
1,5
Pulp
4/5
It´s hard to match the quality of a milestone like "Different Class". And this album definetly didn´t. It shows a quite different Pulp and I needed a few runs to get used to it, but I miss all the anthems and banger on it. Nontheless really solid britpop although some tracks got a little long.
Not an easy decision between three and four stars for me.
favourite: "Fear", "Help The Aged", "Glory Days", "Party Hard"
Radiohead
5/5
Because of "Pablo Honey" I've avoided Radiohead for a long time. Only to discover years later that so much that came out after their debut is simply great. And so is "the bends" ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Bauhaus
2/5
Band and album were all new to me.
Reminds me on "Sisters of Mercy".
favourite: "Harry"
2,5
Depeche Mode
3/5
The album contains the four hits "Never Let Me Down Again", "Straingelove", "Little 15" and "Behind The Wheels" and thats it basicly. 🤷♂️
3,5
Björk
4/5
This album is devided into two kind of songs for me.
I cant resist her unique sound - not only on the hits "Human Behaviour", "Venus As A Boy", "Big Time Sensuality" and "violently happy" but also on "Aeroplane" and "Come To Me". ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
But unfortunately I don´t like all the other tracks! 🤷♂️
Therefore weak four stars for her debut.
3,5
The Sensational Alex Harvey Band
4/5
I was not expecting such a diversified and entertaining rock album.
Fun listen. And a nice discovery.
Snoop Dogg
3/5
I´m not into hip-hop or rap but this one is quite catchy. Just because of that and of "Who Am I" I give it the three stars.
2,5
Paul McCartney and Wings
4/5
McCartney always has been able to write good and catchy melodies. So the title-track plus "Mrs. Vandebilt", "Let Me Roll It" and "Nineteen Hundred And Eighty Five" do their job in this case. But the rest of the album doesn´t convince me completely. Weak four stars for this.
3,5
R.E.M.
4/5
It turns out that R.E.M. wasn´t able to make a single bad record!
Another strong album with the hits "It´s The End Of The World As We Know It..." and "The One I Love" and only a few weaker songs.
Jefferson Airplane
3/5
Listened to the 11 tracks original release.
Besides the iconic "Somebody to Love" nothing remarkable on for me.
2,5
Blur
3/5
The two all-time banger "Beetlebum" and "Song 2" are standing out!
But although I´m into Britpop that´s it basically for me.
worst: "Theme from Retro", "Movin' On", "Essex Dogs"
2,5
Belle & Sebastian
2/5
I really like the music although there is no remarkable track. Easy on the ears. But I don´t like the vocals.
2,5
Various Artists
2/5
It´s just a nice christmas compilation. I wonder why it is on the list?
2,5
The Avalanches
1/5
I´m really surprised by all the high ratings for this album because for me it does nothing. Fits maybe perfect in a club but not on a record?! Skipped almost every track.
1,5
Air
3/5
I wasn´t sure what to expect from band and album, but with "Sexy Boy", the well known "All I Need" and "Kelly Watch The Stars" I got into the mood. A really nice and chilling listen.
The Prodigy
3/5
I like their energetic beats especially on the hits "Breath" and "Firestarter". But for a whole album it's much too repetitive.
2,5
Sade
3/5
Smooth and soulful album with the song "Smooth Operator" to stand out.
The Clash
4/5
One of the few albums that deserve to be a double album. Very diversified and entertaining with almost no fillers.
Worst: "Revolution Rock"
4,5
Malcolm McLaren
2/5
Never heared of him before. Nice change from the recent albums but overall not exactly my jam.
Isaac Hayes
3/5
Didn´t know what to expect but I really liked it.
Nice groove. Great musicianship. Although it´s not exactly my jam.
2,5
Red Hot Chili Peppers
3/5
Amazing energetic bass- and drum-play.
Right in the face.
Two outstanding tracks ("Under The Bridge", "Give It A Way") plus some more good ones ("Breaking The Girl", "Funky Monks"...) and pieces. Unfortunately the album can't hold that level consistently just because of it's lenght.
Worst: "Sir Psycho Sexy"
3,5
Aerosmith
3/5
An album that contains four hits ("Going Down/Love in an Elevator", "Water Song/Janie's Got a Gun", "The Other Side" and "What It Takes") should have at least four stars. But the other songs are more or less meh for me and so the whole album is only average.🤷♂️
Primal Scream
2/5
"Movin on up", "Loaded", "Damaged" are just o.k.
The Flaming Lips
2/5
I´ve heared band and album for the first time but really nothing remarkable for me.
Beastie Boys
1/5
Not the kind of Beastie Boys I like.
best: the cover photo
1,5
King Crimson
2/5
Not that worse kind of prog-rock that I was afraid of before.
Lloyd Cole And The Commotions
3/5
A very nice introduction.
The voice sometimes reminds me on Lou Reed?
Over all I like the music although there is no outstanding song.
Elliott Smith
2/5
I really like the music in almost every song. But his thin voice mostly destroys it for me. It´s a pity.
Drive-By Truckers
2/5
One and a half hour of just solid southern rock. Not a single remarkable track or piece except the bad vocals. Positive: it don´t sucks! But so dull that I don´t even want to rate it down just because of it´s lenght.
1,5
Kings of Leon
3/5
Something between fun songs and annoying vocals.
favourite: "Red Morning Light", "Molly's Chambers"
worst: "Trani"
Hüsker Dü
2/5
Never heard of them before. Now I know why! Nothing remarkable. Musically O.K. but every song sounds the same and therefore the whole album is much too long.
1,5
A Tribe Called Quest
2/5
It's quite o.k. but it's still hip hop🤷
Sepultura
1/5
A few nice musical pieces like on "Ratamahatta " or "Breed Apart" but the metal-typical screaming is annoying!
Brian Eno
1/5
I have only noticed Eno as a producer yet and appreciated his work a lot. But I got quite disappointed by this one. His vocals are often annoying and even the music sucks here and then. ("Driving Me Backwards", "Dead Finks Don't Talk"...)
1,5
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
2/5
I like the cover-foto but that's it basically. Nothing remarkable here.
The Modern Lovers
3/5
Another introduction to me. Sounds like a worse copy of "The Doors". I prefer the David Bowie version of "Pablo Picasso" but having the original version here plus a few more o.k. tracks ("She Cracked", "Modern World", "Dignified An Old") sums up to a weak three stars vote.
2,5
fIREHOSE
2/5
Another introduction to me.
Nice riffs ("In My Mind"...), nice basslines ("Whisperin While Hollerin"...), nice short tracks. But overall for me is something missing especially more remarkable vocals?! Strong two stars for this album.
2,5
The Clash
3/5
Nice short, straight-foreward tracks in best "The Clash"- manner with a weaker B-side.
favourite: "White Riot"
3,5
G. Love & Special Sauce
2/5
Never heared of them before. Here and then some nice tunes but in total nothing to convince me. Especially the vocals are not my favour.
Beastie Boys
3/5
Of course there is the well known banger "Sabotage" but in total the album is just o.k. for me.
2,5
David Bowie
3/5
I like "Young Americans" plus the nice saxophone tunes on this. But even the second well-known track "Fame" is not my favour. It is a shame to say - but this album from his Bowieness doesn´t convince me at all.
Van Halen
3/5
Half an hour of solid and fun guitar/hair-rock with the all-time-banger "Jump" to stand out. In terms of the guitar-work I like "Girl Gone Bad" best.
Sam Cooke
2/5
I really like his voice. And the mood of this record. And the song "Twistin The Night Away". But as always I rate it down one star just because it is a live album.
2,5
John Coltrane
2/5
For me it's just jazz.
Pink Floyd
3/5
Pink Floyd has always been more or less elevator-music for me.
I have to give it three stars only just because of the hits "Money" and "Brain Damage" and the iconic cover-artwork.
Rahul Dev Burman
2/5
Maybe a fun soundtrack but in terms of an album not my jam.
Radiohead
4/5
Very atmospheric record with some great songs ("The National Anthem", "Optimistic" and especially "Idioteque") but also some weaker tracks ("Treefingers", "In Limbo", "Motion Picture Soundtrack").
Definetly not my every-day-pick.
3,5
Grateful Dead
1/5
A few reasons for me to rate this album down:
first: it is a live-album :(
second: it is a double album :(
third: I like neighter the vocals nor the never ending instrumental parts:(
1,5
Alice Cooper
3/5
Of course the title track is an all-time-banger.
The rest of the album is o.k. but maybe sounds a bit aged to me.
Robbie Williams
3/5
Containing an anthem like "Angels" the other tracks on this album seem to me even weaker than they already are. (To be honest "Let Me Entertain You" is fun too.)
AC/DC
4/5
I had a grin on my face with this album popping up. Because with AC/DC you always know what you will get. High quality hard rock with an unique sound and energetic guitars. And on this particular album on top the two all-time-classics "Highway To Hell" and "Touch Too Much".
3,5
Pixies
3/5
On this album there is the very catchy "Here Comes Your Man". But overall I like the music much more than the vocals/screaming!
worst: "I Bleed"
Suede
3/5
I had already forgotten how I love the song "Animal Nitrate"! But the rest of the album can't hold this level although I really like the guitars on it.
Public Image Ltd.
1/5
I like the cover-artwork but the music sucks.
Guided By Voices
3/5
Interesting introduction and I needed a few runs to get used to it. I really like their musical style. But most of the tracks don't feel like complete songs. They feel kind of unfinished like on a demo-tape and a bit unambitious and therefore the whole album can sometimes be as annoying as tik-tok. It's a pity because there is enough potential on this for a proper album with 8 to 10 full songs and at least a four stars rating!
David Bowie
4/5
I have already known the three hits ("Golden Years", "TLC15", "Wild Is The Wind") but I had'nt listened to this whole album before. With 50% of the songs beeing hits (but not his biggest) and no fails this album is an easy four stars rating for me. And very little is missing for his bowieness to the five stars.
favourite musically: "Stay"
favourite vocally: "Wild Is The Wind"
4,5
The Sabres Of Paradise
1/5
I'm glad that at the time of release there was no stream available! Who knows - the album probably would not only use the full capcity of a CD but the full capacity of a server?! It constantly varies between something that I mostly would describe as noise and something that could become music and back to noise. Simply not my jam!
1,5
Muddy Waters
3/5
After yesterday's "Sabres of Paradise" I am glad to finally have real music here. The mojo works perfectly on this and I don't want to forget to mention the harmonica. But as always I rate it down one star just because it's a live album.
2,5
Talking Heads
3/5
Musically o.k. but on most of the songs the vocals are annoying. "Take Me To The River" secures them the very weak three stars for me.
2,5
Mercury Rev
2/5
Never heared of them before. There is the Bowieesk "Opus 40" and a few other o.k. songs ("Goddess on a Hiway", "The Funny Bird", "Delta Sun Bottleneck Stomp"), but especially the wha-wha doodle-doodle- sound on some tracks is hard to stand for me.
2,5
LTJ Bukem
2/5
Never ending Backgroundmusic.
1,5
Echo And The Bunnymen
3/5
Listened to the US-version.
Nothing bad and nothing outstanding. But I like it.
2,5
The Mamas & The Papas
3/5
There are the two mega-hits "Monday, Monday" and "California Dreamin" on the album. But in total it sounds a bit too aged to me.
Boards of Canada
2/5
70 minutes of nothing remarkable.
Just electronic background music.
1,5
Wilco
3/5
Cool album title and cover artwork.
I really wanted to like it more and gave it a few runs.
But the boring voice messes it up for me.
favourite: "Kamera", "War on War", "Heavy Metal Drummer"
Ms. Dynamite
2/5
Quite listenable/catchy for a R&B/HipHop- album.
2,5
The Only Ones
2/5
Fun music but vocals by someone who can at least sing would be highly welcome.
The Band
3/5
Although there are a few good songs on this album ("Rag Mama Rag", "Up On Cripple Creek") in total it sounds a bit aged to me. Especially because of "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" I give it the three stars.
2,5
Creedence Clearwater Revival
3/5
Besides the all-time classic "Bad Moon Rising" and "Lodi" it's just solid, good old (southern) rock for me.
Rod Stewart
2/5
One of the most prominent voices in music. But the music itself on this album doesn't convince me at all.
2,5
Supertramp
4/5
I really loved the three hits "School", "Bloody Well Right" and "Dreamer" right from the start. To get used to the rest of the album I needed a few runs. But unfortunately for me there are still a few weaker moments. (screaming on "Asylum", "Rudi"... , "If Everyone Was Listening", "Crime Of The Century")
3,5
Crosby, Stills & Nash
2/5
O.k. but too old fashioned for my taste.
John Grant
4/5
I've never heared of this guy before.
The album starts very calm but then holds enough tension to keep it interesting. And the more I get into this album the more I hear reminiscences to other artists (Beatles, Bowie, Stevens...?) Neither an outstanding nor a bad song on. So it's hard for me to decide between three and four stars.
3,5
Ladysmith Black Mambazo
2/5
This kind of vocal/acapella music is really not my favour.
The Yardbirds
3/5
I find this album quite catchy but not remarkable.
Weak three stars for this.
favourite: "What Do You Want", "He's Always There"
2,5
Depeche Mode
4/5
"World In My Eyes", "Personal Jesus", "Enjoy The Silence" and "Policy Of Truth" - what is more to say! The other songs on the album can't match the quality of these four banger.
3,5
Ella Fitzgerald
2/5
Oh my god. 3 hours 15 minutes! Just because of this length I will probably never listen to this album again. But despite that it's musically quite nice.
1,5
Gene Clark
3/5
I like it although there is nothing remarkable on. Very Neil Young-ish without the roughness. Weak three stars for this album.
2,5
Black Flag
1/5
35 minutes of maybe even too intense punk music with miserable vocals.
1,5
Willie Nelson
2/5
Again I like the harmonica-play more than his vocals.
Nonetheless a nice and easy listen.
2,5
Donovan
2/5
Way too lame vocally and way too old fashioned for me.
The Specials
2/5
Maybe I wasn't in the right mood for this?!
best known: "A Message To You Rudy"
2,5
Jean-Michel Jarre
2/5
Except the well known "Oxygene Part IV" it's just pretty good background-music for me.
2,5
Supergrass
3/5
Although there is nothing unique about this music or album I like it. In it for weak three stars.
2,5
Adele
3/5
Strong voice plus the smash-hits "Rolling in the Deep", "Set Fire to the Rain" and "Someone Like You" plus the "The Cure"-cover "Lovesong" sum up to a pretty solid and catchy pop-album. But still not exactly my jam.
3,5
Tim Buckley
2/5
Sounds a bit dated to me. And I'm not into his vocals.
Pantera
2/5
Nice hard and energetic listen. But a whole album of this kind is a bit too much for me.
The Smashing Pumpkins
3/5
I have warm memories of the "Smashing Pumpkins"- sound.
Unfortunately it is a bit repetitive and so the whole album becomes boring.
Nonetheless "Disarm" is a banger and "Today" is o.k. too.
Weak three stars for this album.
2,5
Pentangle
2/5
Interesting change from the recent albums but the female vocals sometimes can be annoying. Not exactly my jam.
JAY Z
2/5
Quite listenable for a hip-hop/rap-album.
The Residents
1/5
I've never heared of them before.
And there is no need for me to listen to them again.
The Smiths
3/5
Band an album where all new to me. But it turns out for me that the frase "one of the greatest albums of all times" is uses a bit inflationary. Nonetheless I really like this one although there is no outstanding track on.
favourite: "Cemetry Gates", "Bigmouth Strikes Again"
3,5
Boston
3/5
The all-time banger "More Than A Feeling" plus "Peace Of Mind" and "Long Time" are standards in classic rock. But for my taste the whole album is a bit too much classic?
3,5
Flamin' Groovies
3/5
Nice rock and roll album in best "Stones" manner. Fun listen.
worst: "Evil Hearted Ada"
3,5 (Rated the 9 tracks original album because the CD bonus tracks add nothing special or remarkable for me)
The Temptations
3/5
The album first increases track by track ("Funky Music Sho Nuff Turns Me On", "Run Charlie Run") and peakes with the great "Papa Was A Rolling Stone". But after that for me it again becomes lamer and lamer.
Tom Waits
3/5
His voice is really not my favour but somehow fits better to the bluesy style on this album than on his albums from this list I had prior.
Weak three stars and no heartattack for this.
2,5
Pixies
3/5
Again a hard decision between two and three stars for me.
Less screaming then on the two other Pixies-albums and therefore in total more listenable but I'm missing the hits.
2,5
The Isley Brothers
2/5
Nice and easy listen but nothing remarkable.
2,5
Shack
2/5
I've never heared anything of them before.
They sound like different other, more prominent britpop/britrock bands.
But in every facete they are always the worse copy of the originals for me.
Neither fish nor meat. La-la-la..........la-la-la..........
2,5
Herbie Hancock
2/5
Interesting change from the recent albums.
Very groovy - but not my every day jam.
De La Soul
2/5
quite o.k. for a hip-hop album - but it stays hip-hop for me.
Van Morrison
3/5
Overall a very homogeneous, catchy and relaxed (folk-)album.
And exactly the amount of jazz I'm fine with ;)
favourite: "Moondance"
3,5
Arctic Monkeys
5/5
My personal album of the year 2006.
Full of fresh, energetic, fun and in a best way kind of spewed out songs.
Arcade Fire
3/5
For any reasons I had higher expectations on this album?! But it turned out for me that it's just solid. Weak three stars for the Neon Bible.
favourite: "Intervention", "No Cars Go"
2,5
The Jam
4/5
Didn't knew anything from this album except the banger "That's Entertainment" not even knowing it is by The Jam! What a shame!
Great album that loses a bit quality within the last songs.
Echo And The Bunnymen
2/5
O.K. But they sound a bit too theatrical to me. Overall less remarkable.
2,5
Nick Drake
2/5
His unimpressive voice ruins all the nice, jazzy music for me.
2,5
The Mothers Of Invention
1/5
Random music pieces. Until track 9 just o.k. but beginning with "Flower Punk" too much annoying noice.
fun: "What's The Ugliest Part Of Your Body?"
1,5
The Who
2/5
Only average and dated songs plus stupid ads. Not for me.
Soundgarden
4/5
Great album containing banger like "Fell On Black Days", "Spoonman" and above all "Black Hole Sun". An absolute standard in grunge!
Unfortunately some weaker numbers here and then ("Limo Wreck", "4th Of July", "She Likes Surprises"...) blow it up to over 70 minutes.
The Byrds
2/5
A bit too old-fashioned for my taste. O.k. but nothing remarkable on.
Elvis Costello & The Attractions
2/5
It turns out that Elvis Costello is one of the most important artists to this list!
Far too many Elvis Costello albums on!!!
This album again is o.k. but nothing remarkable except his f***ing voice.
Kendrick Lamar
2/5
Way too long although it don't sucks like other hip-hop albums.
Everything But The Girl
2/5
Besides "Wrong" for me only 90's background music in a shopping mall.
Def Leppard
4/5
Their music don't catches me any more in the same way as a teenager. But it's still a pretty good (stadium-)rock album packed with banger. Fun to listen to every time.
3,5
The Pogues
2/5
o.k. but not really my jam.
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
4/5
I'm really not a big fan of Nick Cave! But this album is quite accessible to me compared to his other work. Even the fact, that it is a double album does no harm. Disc one is good from start to finish. And disc two is pretty solid too!
Elvis Presley
3/5
Great production with the well known hit "In The Ghetto".
(Rated the original release without the other hit "Suspicious Minds".)
Jane's Addiction
2/5
o.k. but nothing remarkable on.
The Icarus Line
2/5
Just solid alternative/garage rock.
But sometimes on the edge to annoying.
Scissor Sisters
3/5
O.k. but besides the well known "Take Your Mama" nothing really remarkable on. Weak three stars.
2,5
Sly & The Family Stone
2/5
"Everyday People" is quite o.k. but the rest of the album is not really my jam.
2,5
Sex Pistols
3/5
Nice, intense 38 minutes of punk-rock.
R.E.M.
5/5
R.E.M. at their peak. After "Out Of Time" a back-to-back masterpiece.
Metallica
4/5
I'm not a metal head but I love it.
4.5
Afrika Bambaataa
2/5
just hip hop.
FKA twigs
2/5
boring. nothing that hooks me.
The Thrills
3/5
Somehow feels like several versions of the hit-single "Big Sur" ;)
O.K. but a bit too lame and same same. And especially because of the thin vocals there are really no thrills on for me! Weak three stars.
2,5
The War On Drugs
2/5
A pleasant listen although most of the songs are a bit long.
But for three stars I'm missing at least one song to really stand out.
favourite: "Burning"
2,5
Kendrick Lamar
2/5
He should write a novel and quit making this far too long records!
The fact that it is hip hop makes it even worse for me!
most listenable: "I"
1,5
Spiritualized
1/5
I like the cover artwork more than the music! But it makes you aware too, that listening to this album probably will cause you headache. Far too much noise for my taste!
Justin Timberlake
3/5
Only just because of "Rock Your Body" I give it the three stars.
The rest of the album is almost forgettable.
2,5
Jamiroquai
2/5
A chilling and pleasant listen! There is his unique sound but I'm missing the big hits on this album. Not easy for me to decide between two and three stars.
Favourite: "Blow My Mind"
2,5
Nico
1/5
I really can't stand her voice! The song "Chelsea Girls" could be great but this version s*****.
1,5
Radiohead
4/5
Not my favourit Radiohead album.
But still a great atmospheric recording.
Top: "I Might Be Wrong", "Knives Out"

2/5
not really my jam.
George Michael
3/5
I like his voice more than his music.
most popular: "Freedom! 90"

The Style Council
3/5
Almost a pleasant listen with the two well known songs "You're The Best Thing" and "My Ever Changing Moods".

2/5
sounds a bit too aged to me and is not really my jam.
Fishbone
2/5
favourite: "Ma and Pa"
Joni Mitchell
2/5
A nice listen but not a single track that hooks me.
Furthermore I'm not 100% fine with her voice.
2,5
I like the music, I like his voice. But unfortunately there is not a single remarkable song on this album. Weak three stars for the Faces.
2,5
Bob Dylan
3/5
With Bob Dylan you know what you get. But a whole album is a bit too much of that. Just because of the great "Like A Rolling Stone" I give it the three stars.
Jeff Buckley
2/5
I like the music but sometimes his vocals can be annoying.
favourite: "Last Goodbye"
k.d. lang
2/5
Too lame or not really my jam? Anyway nothing remarkable for me.
Scott Walker
2/5
There is nothing to hate and nothing to love on this album. Just an o.k. listen.
2,5
Duran Duran
3/5
Just o.k. 80s pop. The three singles "Rio", "Hungry Like The Wolf" and "Save A Prayer" make it a weak three stars album for me.
2,5
Marvin Gaye
2/5
Smooth sounding record but nothing that hooks me and therefore way too long.
2,5
Leonard Cohen
3/5
Sounds like an album from a Bob Dylan twin but without a single hit.
favourite: "Story Of Isaac"
Weak three stars.
2,5
The Kinks
3/5
Although it sounds more like "Something Dated By The Kinks" to me - "Death Of A Clown" and "Waterloo Sunset" make it a weak three stars album for me.
2,5
Prince
2/5
The genius of Prince seems unaccessible for me. Besides the best know title-track simply not my cup of tea. And I rate it further down one star just because of its length.
1,5
Dagmar Krause
2/5
I was really surprised that this album is actually from the 80's! An interesting change from the recent albums with a serious topic. But musically not my cup of tea.
Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan
2/5
I'm not used to this kind of music but it's quite o.k. and I really like the cover artwork.
Leonard Cohen
4/5
I like his nice, smooth and dark voice. A relaxed listen with almost no fails and for me his best album from this list so far. Weak four stars.
favourite: "First We Take Manhattan"
worst: "Jazz Police"
3,5
Eagles
3/5
This accommodation holds only solid (dad rock-) numbers. Simply noone can escape the all-time-megahit "Hotel California" and the two other rock standards "New Kid In Town" and "Life In The Fast Lane". But the B-side can't hold this level.
And of course it must be said: "I hate the fucking Eagles" ;)
Not easy for me to decide between three and four stars.
3,5
Leftfield
2/5
I can imagine this works very well in a club. But simply not my cup of tea.
My Bloody Valentine
1/5
Not that boring like the previous mbv albums. But somehow they have the ability to turn a song, that contains every facet I love in music, into something annoying. I totally agree with the album title - isn't anything for me!
1,5
Gram Parsons
3/5
Except the entertaining "I Can't Dance" and "Ooh Las Vegas" almost good old-fashioned country.
Thanks to this list I surprisingly discovered the original version of "Love Hurts". But I still prefer the later "Nazareth"-version. Weak three stars.
2,5
Roxy Music
4/5
Nice groove on "The Thrill Of It All". Nice harp on "Three And Nine" and "If It Takes All Night". The Franz Ferdinand- like "Bitter-Sweet".
Nonetheless the album needed a few runs to grow on me from two to weak four stars.
3,5
Blue Cheer
2/5
Solid (Hard-)rock but nothing that would hook me anymore nowadays.
Cowboy Junkies
2/5
For my todays mood this album is way too quiet. Nonetheless I like the jazzy and chilly sound although the voice sometimes is a bit whining.
Strong two stars for the Trinity Session.
2,5
Bebel Gilberto
2/5
A pleasant listen, but more in context of a bar or club.
Does me no harm, but nothing I would listen to all day.
2,5
Talvin Singh
1/5
OK without Computer makes a one star album out of a five star album.
Astor Piazzolla
2/5
Skillful musicians with a great live performance but not my preferred style of music.
Julian Cope
3/5
I've never heared of him before and I got quite surprised in a positive way.
But although I listened to the standard edition the album is a bit too long.
worst: "If You Loved Me At All", "Hung Up And Hanging Out To Dry"
2,5
Madness
3/5
The well-known hit "Our House" stands far out of the rest of the album.
The Verve
2/5
I'm quite disappointed by this album. It lacks any hits and is full of tracks of the same kind that are the filler on Urban Hymns. O.K. but nothing that hooks me.
The Coral
3/5
I've never heard of them before. Nothing new. Nothing groundbreaking.
But almost a fun listen. Weak three stars.
worst: "Skeleton Key"
favourite: "Waiting for the Heartaches", "Wildfire"
2,5
Tim Buckley
3/5
Musically almost a pleasant listen. But I'm not 100% fine with his vocals.
weak three stars for this greetings.
2,5
Cheap Trick
2/5
It is o.k. but not a live-performance that thrills me.
And so I rate it down as always just because it is a live-album.
best known: "I Want You To Want Me", "Surrender"
Bob Marley & The Wailers
4/5
Five best-known hits ("Exodus", "Jamming", "Waiting In Vain", "Three Little Birds" and "One Love/People Get Ready") out of the ten tracks make it a four stars rating for me although it's not my preferred genre.
T. Rex
3/5
A fun listen with nice riffs and the well-known hit "Get It On".
Overall maybe a bit dated?! Strong three stars.
3,5
The Youngbloods
2/5
The album starts good with "Darkness, Darkness" but soon Turnschuhe into nice background-music for me.
2,5
Frank Sinatra
2/5
It's nice but nothing I would listen to away from this list.
Joni Mitchell
1/5
I'm sorry - but I can't stand her high voice. And there is not a single song on this album to hook me. No pleasure to listen to this one for me.
1,5
Todd Rundgren
1/5
Way too weird!!! Although the B-side has a few o.k. moments he already lost me with the first tracks.
The Killers
5/5
An album packed with Killer(s)-songs.
Every time a fun listen. Easy five stars for me.
The 13th Floor Elevators
2/5
Some nice tunes here and there but in total it sounds too dated to me. Not really my cup of tea.
Raekwon
2/5
It is hip-hop. And it is quite o.k. But way too long regarding the fact that nothing remarkable happens on.
The Everly Brothers
2/5
Is a total running time with less then half an hour already an album? And even the original version of the well-known "Love Hurts" does not convince me at all. Over all just 60's sound.
2,5
Django Django
3/5
I've never heard of them before but somehow I like it. Sounds very much like recorded as a soundtrack for several videogames. With some more runs I possibly would get used to it even more. Strong three stars for this one.
3,5
Wild Beasts
2/5
Now I know why I've never heard of them before.
Nothing remarkable on for me.
Simon & Garfunkel
3/5
I really prefer the Bangles version of "A Hazy Shade Of Winter" but the original here is o.k. too. And no doubt "Mrs. Robinson" is an all-time masterpiece.
An album containing only two remarkable songs is a disappointing effort for such a prominent duo!
2,5
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
3/5
A couple of decent songs on but none to stand out for me. The whole album is a bit too lame and same same for my taste. Not easy to decide between two or three stars for his very silent call.
Worst: "Green Eyes"
2,5
Guns N' Roses
5/5
Almost no fails because even the weaker tracks contain facettes I like. Plus the all-time banger "Sweet Child O'Mine", "Welcome To The Jungle" and "Paradise City". A fun listen even after years. Weak five stars just because of the moaning on "Rocket Queen".
4,5
Shuggie Otis
2/5
The album starts well and funky but then with further progression loses tension for me. (Rated the original release)
2,5
Dion
2/5
Easy on the ears. But really nothing remarkable on.
The Mothers Of Invention
1/5
Sometimes o.k. or even fun but often and especially on sides 3 and 4 way too weird to be listenable for me.
1,5
Bad Company
3/5
Pretty solid classic rock with the well known "Can't Get Enough" and "Rock Steady".
Black Sabbath
3/5
Groundbreaking then, still solid now.
But I simply don't like Ozzys voice. (Anyway R.I.P. Ozzy)
2,5
Femi Kuti
3/5
The driving rhythm brings me in a good mood. Definitely no background-music. Maybe a bit too long.
2,5
Kid Rock
3/5
I seem to have some kind of soft spot on Rap-Rock?
Nothing new or groundbreaking but not that bad like the global rating indicates. Sure too long.
best known: "Only God Knows Why", "Bawitdaba", "Cowboy"
2,5
Badly Drawn Boy
2/5
Another introduction to me. Nothing new or groundbreaking or remarkable. Musically almost in my corner but the unimpressive vocals harm a lot for me.
System Of A Down
3/5
I had been only familiar with their later albums but this one has already the unique sound and is good as well. Nonetheless not an every-day-pick.
2,5
Hugh Masekela
3/5
Quite catchy and entertaining for a jazz-album. Looses a bit tension at the end for me and therefor it is maybe too long. Weak three stars.
2,5
Ute Lemper
2/5
I entered this album quite biased. An artist I don't known is performing titles from artists I have more or less mixed emotions. And furthermore in a variety-show/musical-style?! But surprisingly it works here and then for me - basically because of the good production. Nonetheless not my preferred style of music.
favourite: "Split", "You Were Meant For Me"
2,5
Leonard Cohen
2/5
A whole album of this kind is a bit too quiet, too sad and too lame for my todays mood although the single songs are o.k.
2,5
Kings of Leon
3/5
I really like their sound and "Sex On Fire" is a banger. But on the other hand this is the only remarkable song for me on this album. Strong three stars.
3,5
The Beau Brummels
2/5
Quite short for an album. Nothing to love, nothing to hate on. Sounds dated to me.
Jeff Beck
2/5
Nothing to hook me. Despite the prominent rock staff.
Because of "Beck's Bolero" I give it the two stars.
1,5
Quicksilver Messenger Service
2/5
A-side is almost forgettable for me. "Mona" on the B-side grooves.
As always I rate it down just because it is a live album.
1,5
Marilyn Manson
2/5
Only remarkable/known track ist "The Beautiful People".
Way too same same and therefor too long. Weak two stars.
1,5
Miles Davis
2/5
o.k. but not my preferred style of music.
Dead Kennedys
3/5
Sex Pistols remastered or what?! But I like it.
Weak three stars for this one.
2,5
Queen
3/5
Because it is a Queen Album I'm tending to give it at least four stars! "Killer Queen" is already the essence of the later Queen-sound. "Now I'm Here" is one of the best earlier Queen-songs. "Stone Cold Crazy" is a underrated banger. And "In The Lap Of The Gods... revisited" is an anthem.
I also like how some songs float into each other!
But in the context of this list an just because the album in total don't convinces me at all, I can only argue strong three stars.
Worst: "In The Lap Of The Gods"
3,5
Funkadelic
2/5
o.k. but not exactly my jam.
Donald Fagen
3/5
Easy on the ears. Good production. Gifted musicians.
Anyway it don't really hooks me. Maybe too blend or quiet?
favourite: "New Frontier" just because of the harmonica
2,5
The Fall
3/5
I really like the music but the vocals aren't my favour. Weak three stars.
2,5
Screaming Trees
3/5
Another introduction to me. Although their sound is quite catchy and it is almost the same kind of music, this album is a good example for what separates a decent band from a great band like Pearl Jam. Not a single song to really stand out and to stay in my mind.
Little Simz
3/5
Finally a hip-hop album with less than one hour running-time. ;)
Nice drum-and-bass-lines. Surprisingly good.
The Go-Betweens
3/5
A very nice and easy listen without being too blend.
I totally agree with many of the other reviews - very "The Smiths"-ish.
favourite: "Streets Of Your Town", "Was There Anything I Could Do", "Love Goes On"
3,5
The White Stripes
3/5
Although there are already all the ingredients, this album don't sparks me in the same way the upcoming masterpiece "Elephant" does.
Brian Eno
2/5
It don't really sucks. But anyway nothing that hooks me or that I even enjoyed. Whether it has been influential or not.
Weak two stars for all those colorful, horizontal stripes.
1,5
Giant Sand
2/5
Now I know why I've never heard of them before.
Musically quite o.k. and here and then some sparks but the Cohen-like vocals are missing badly the quality of the original. Overall too lame.
Doves
2/5
Absolutely nothing remarkable about this album. Just o.k.
The Young Rascals
3/5
Sounds a bit dated to me.
Just because of "Find Somebody" and "Groovin'" I give it weak three stars.
2,5
The Dandy Warhols
2/5
Expected much more from this but got disappointed. Just o.k.
favourite: "Every Day Should Be A Holiday"
2,5
Cyndi Lauper
3/5
Four 80s banger ("Girls Just Want To Have Fun", "Time After Time", "She Bop", "All Through The Night") and an almost forgettable rest.
Nonetheless strong three stars for Cindy.
3,5
Lambchop
2/5
Thank god "The Butcher's Boy" at the end woke me up.
Another album with nothing remarkable on. Forgot it immediately.
1,5
The Electric Prunes
2/5
Here and than some nice tunes like on "I Had Too Much To Dream" but in total it sounds too dated to me.
Merle Haggard
2/5
A bit too old-fashioned. Not bad but not really my jam.
Grateful Dead
2/5
A bit too lame and old-fashioned and middle of the road for my taste. Expected much more from this popular name.
3/5
Yes - it is The Beatles and yes - it is a milestone in music.
But from my nowadays perspective it is an average album with only a few standout tracks and also a few sucker.
Sugar
3/5
I really like this kind of music. But at the other hand there is nothing remarkable on this album. Weak three stars.
2,5
Paul Revere & The Raiders
3/5
"Kicks" right from the start for me. ;)
A real pleasant listen although it is from the 60s.
James Taylor
3/5
Easy on the ears but nothing really remarkable on for me. Weak three stars.
favourite: "Country Road", "Suite for 20 G"
2,5
Peter Tosh
3/5
The title-track fulfills my concerns of another reggae-album with all sounding the same. But then it became an almost pleasant and diversified listen. Quite a positive surprise from the list.
2,5
Crowded House
3/5
First thoughts: Crowded House = "Weather With You"!
"It's Only Natural" is o.k. too. But the rest of this album is way too lame and unremarkable for my taste.
2,5
Fred Neil
2/5
o.k. but nothing that hooks me. Not even the harmonica-play.
Jungle Brothers
2/5
It's just hip-hop for me. Weak two stars.
1,5
The Hives
3/5
It rocks but also lacks a bit of the quality of their later albums like "Tyrannosaurus Hives". Besides that it got quite short and is only a compilation.
favourite: "Hate To Say I Told You So"
Lauryn Hill
2/5
Does me no harm. But far too long! Therefore weak two stars.
1,5
Big Black
2/5
Although I'm used to this kind of industrial rock/punk from the 80s both band and album were all new to me. Nonetheless it has never been my preferred genre.
2,5
Steve Winwood
3/5
Bores me to death. The well-known "While You See A Chance" secures him the weak three stars for me.
2,5
The Cult
3/5
Solid rock-album with nothing remarkable on.
Just because of "Love Removal Machine" I give it weak three stars.
2,5
The Charlatans
3/5
I've never heard of them before. Because I have some kind of soft spot for britrock I give them the weak three stars - although there is nothing remarkable with this album.
2,5
Serge Gainsbourg
2/5
Quite short for an album. Overall I really like the music but the spoken vocals aren't my favor.
AC/DC
4/5
This album contains a firework of guitar-riffs from start to finish plus a bunch of their greatest hits. A few weaker numbers cost them the five stars for me.
4,5
Sisters Of Mercy
3/5
"This Corrosion" has been a banger in my youth and "Dominion/Mother Russia", "Lucretia My Reflection" and "1959" are o.k. too. So I give it at least three stars although the rest of the album don't convinces me in the same way.
3,5
Electric Light Orchestra
3/5
Almost meh for me and way too long! Only just because of the well-known "Turn To Stone", "Sweet Talkin' Woman" and "Mr. Blue Sky" I give it the weak three stars.
2,5
Ramblin' Jack Elliott
2/5
Not really my jam. And his screaming in some songs is hard to stand for me.
1,5
Rush
4/5
I've already known "Tom Sawyer" and "Limelight". For the rest of the album I maybe need some more runs to get used to it. Nonetheless an interesting introduction and not an easy decision between three and four stars.
3,5
Pearl Jam
5/5
One of the greatest grunge/rock- bands of our time with their debut- milestone. Full of rock-classics lead by "Alive"! But especially in terms of a whole album and the talent of each single member of the band - simply outstanding!
With this album Pearl Jam opened the door to the 90's for melodic, emotional, hard-rock using the key of grunge. And there where still a bunch of more great Pearl Jam albums to come!
Ten stars out of five ;)
Ryan Adams
3/5
Since I have listened to his "Rock n Roll"- album (which I love!) I often feel I should like his other music more than I actually do. He doesn't break my heart with this one!
2,5
Earth, Wind & Fire
2/5
I don't like the high pitched vocals on some songs. Musically almost pleasant but not exactly my jam.
Ramones
4/5
Full of nice, short and catchy punk-tracks - each one a gem of the genre. I don't want to sit still with this sound. But like often with punk: a whole album becomes a bit repetitive. Weak four stars.
favourite: "Blitzkrieg Bop", "Beat On The Brat"
3,5
R.E.M.
4/5
At the one hand this album contains so many hits like "Pop Song 89", "Get Up", "Stand", "World Leader Pretend", "Orange Crush" and "Turn You Inside-Out". At the other hand for me there are also clear fails like "The Wrong Child" and "Hairshirt". Makes in total weak four stars for me.
3,5
Scott Walker
2/5
A bit too old-fashioned and bombastic for my taste.
The Slits
1/5
OMG!!!
Songhoy Blues
3/5
I quite enjoyed it although I'm not really used to this kind of music.
But it looses a bit tension to me with the second half of the album.
Weak three stars for their exile-debut.
favourite: "Nick", Sekou Oumarou", "Soubour"
2,5
Siouxsie And The Banshees
2/5
Musically almost o.k. but the vocals often on the edge to annoying!
Eels
2/5
Another introduction and I generally like the music. Here and then some really nice tunes but in total nothing special or remarkable on.
2,5
Genesis
2/5
I got quite disappointed from this album by those prominent musicians. Nothing to convince me. Or maybe too much of all for my todays mood?
best known: "I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe)"
Rush
3/5
I like the music but the screaming vocals in most of the songs are annoying.
The album generally can't match the quality of "Moving Pictures".
Calexico
2/5
I have heard their songs here and then on the radio but never listened to a whole album before. Quite o.k. but nothing that really hooks me. Expected much more mexicana.
2,5
The Rolling Stones
3/5
I was excited having this pop up in the morning. But somehow it turns out that I like their sound on live performances much more than on their studio recordings.
favourite: "Gimme Shelter", "Midnight Rambler", "You Can't Always Get What you Want"
worst: "Love In Vain", "Monkey Man"
Happy Mondays
2/5
Almost o.k. but also sometimes on the edge to annoying.
In total nothing remarkable on for me.
worst: "Grandbag's Funeral"
Adam & The Ants
1/5
Another album that makes me question this list.
Not only absolutely nothing remarkable on for me but especially on the b-side sometimes really annoying.
1,5
Grant Lee Buffalo
2/5
At the one hand I like this kind of music. But at the other hand there is nothing remarkable on this specific album.
favourite: the title track
2,5
Buzzcocks
2/5
Nothing remarkable. Just punk.
favourite: "Moving Away From The Pulsebeat"
2,5
Lupe Fiasco
2/5
Sometimes quite listenable for an hip-hop album.
But a full album of hip-hop is still too much for me.
2/5
I rate it down just because it is a double-album and because it is a live album. As always with Bob Dylan a whole album becomes a bit boring.
Aerosmith
3/5
No hits on, but the album rocks solid from start to finish. Weak three stars.
favourite: "Rats In The Cellar"
2,5
The Beach Boys
3/5
The Beach Boys with their signature-sound. But for me in total sounds a bit dated. Just because of "Help Me, Rhonda" I give it the weak three stars.
2,5
Orange Juice
2/5
Really not worth to listen to before you die.
Nothing remarkable on. Just la...la...la..!
1,5
Orbital
1/5
Sometimes just o.k. in term of background-music but also some annoying pieces. Plus way too long! Nonetheless I worked thru but nothing that pleases me!
1,5
Megadeth
3/5
I generally like the Megadeth-sound especially the basslines. And I like the cover artwork. But I prefer their two upfollowing albums big time compared to this.
favourite: "Take No Prisoners", "Dawn Patrol"
Gang Starr
2/5
Another "Greatest hip hop album of all time"? Big question sign for me! Nonetheless a well produced and quite listenable hip hop album.
favourite: "Here Today, Gone Tomorrow"
2,5
The Smiths
3/5
Musically great. Guitar, bass and drums all top notch.
But the sacral vocals aren't my favour.
favourite: "Barbarism Begins At Home", "Rusholme Ruffians"
The Auteurs
3/5
Another introduction. Nonetheless it sounds quite familiar to me. I really like this one and after a few runs it is potentially a four stars album. But the vocals aren't my favour.
3,5
Deerhunter
2/5
Never heard of them before. Some decent tunes on but also some annoying pieces. In total nothing really remarkable for me.
Taylor Swift
3/5
Even the hits from this album ("Blank Space", "Shake If Off") don't convince me at all. In total much too blend and same same for my taste. Really can't see a reason for the hype about her.
2,5
Lana Del Rey
1/5
I can hardly stand her high pitched, breathed and whining vocals.
Skipped nearly every track.
1,5
Simply Red
3/5
The album is almost a pleasant listen, also just because of his voice. But besides the three hits "Come To My Aid", "Money's Too Tight (To Mention)" and "Holding Back The Years" nothing really remarkable for me.
3,5
Throwing Muses
4/5
A real alternative introduction full of power and with unusual vocals.
Rocks from start to finish.
favourite: "Hate My Way", "America", "Soul Soldier"
3,5
3/5
"The Look Of Love" and an almost forgettable rest.
2,5
Paul Weller
4/5
I was entering this one without any expectations and really enjoyed it, although there are no hits on. Some weaker tracks ("Wild Wood", "Country", "Moon On Your Pyjamas"...) don't make it easy for me to decide between three and four stars.
favourite: "Sunflower", "Can You Heal Us", "5th Season", "The Weaver"
3,5
Joni Mitchell
2/5
Again her vocals don't convince me at all. Instrumentally nothing remarkable. Some might call this album atmospheric but I find it quite boring. Really can't see a reason for so many Joni Mitchell albums on this list!
1,5
ZZ Top
4/5
A real fun and bluesy, hard-rock album lead by the rock standard "La Grange" and driven by energetic guitar work. Other stand out tracks for me are "Waitin' For the Bus", "Masters of Sparks" and "Precious And Grace".
(ZZ)Top!!!
Jorge Ben Jor
3/5
Quite enjoyed it although it's not exactly my jam.
favourite: "Ponta De Lanca Africano", "Meus Filhos, Meu Tesouro", "Taj Mahal"
2,5
Tracy Chapman
4/5
Oh how much do I love her voice! A very strong (debut-)album with the three mega-hits "Talkin' Bout A Revolution", "Fast Car" and "Baby Can I Hold You" plus a bunch of pretty solid tracks.
Van Morrison
1/5
From a musical point I wanted to give this album at least two stars, but his vocals made it impossible for me.
1,5
Muddy Waters
3/5
A blues- album full of energy and great harmonica- play.
And "Mannish Boy" rocks ("Hard Again)"!
Not my every day choice. Nonetheless strong three stars!
3,5
Richard Hawley
2/5
Quite listenable but I agree with those who call it boring because I also can't find a single remarkable facet on this album.
Björk
1/5
If her "Debut" for me is divided into great songs and songs I don't like, this album is dominated by the second kind. Sad to say so, but all the vocal extravagance is too much for me.
Nonetheless an unique album with iconic cover artwork.
favourite: "Vökuro", "Who Is It"
worst: "Ancestors", "Midvikudags"
1,5
ABBA
4/5
Containing all those eternal pop anthems ("Dancing Queen", "Knowing Me, Knowing You", "Money, Money, Money", "Fernando") I expected an easy four stars album. But the rest of the songs aren't my favour.
3,5
Japan
2/5
Influential than, musically only just o.k. now.
And the vocals really aren't my favour.
Queen
5/5
Still a fan. "Bohemian Rhapsody" alone would make it a five stars album for me. But beyond that it is a very diversified album and every time a fun listen - especially on headphones.
Traffic
2/5
Started quite good ("You Can All Join In", "Pearly Queen") but soon lost tension.
worst: "Don't Be Sad"
The White Stripes
4/5
The opening hit "Blue Orchid" wakes one up for a fun and diversified album. Not that iconic as "Elephant" but in total much better than "White Blood Cells". Because of a few weaker songs it makes a weak four stars album for me.
3,5
Tom Waits
2/5
I get it. This list will challenge me. Some surprisingly o.k. tracks ("16 Shells From A Thirty-Ought Six", "Down, Down, Down"...) plus some shitty ones ("Dave The Butcher", "Frank's Wild Years"...). Again the noises from his mouth almost ruins it for me.
Green Day
5/5
This album proves, how political but catchy, fun and entertaining and (on top) successful a punk rock album can be - without being repetitive!
Masterpiece!
Pink Floyd
2/5
Not that much elevator music like usually comes from Pink Floyd. But anyway sounds dated to me and is sometimes on the edge to annoying.
Tina Turner
3/5
One of the most prominent voices in pop with some of her greatest hits. ("What's Love Got to Do with it", "I Can't Stand the Rain", "Private Dancer") The rest of the album (including the Al Green and Beatles- cover) don't convinces me completely.
3,5
Janelle Monáe
2/5
Some sparks ("Tightrope", "Come Alive") but in total not my jam and way too long.
Ozomatli
3/5
Another introduction to me. The album starts strong ("Believe", "Love And Hope", the Santana-like "Who discovered America?") but with further progress looses tension to me. Nonetheless I like the mood of this record and the brass instruments. I give it the weak three stars just because of the few sucker ("Saturday Night", ""...).

Metallica
4/5
The album contains "One"! What is more to say? The rest is solid metal - in the best way.

Elastica
3/5
Band and album where all new to me. Sometimes reminds me on the band "Garbage". With elements of grunge and punk. I enjoyed it. Not easy to decide between three and four stars.

The Associates
1/5
Musically could have been background music.
But the vocals make it unlistenable for me. Almost quit at track 3.
Morrissey
3/5
Sounds quite o.k. but exactly like "The Smiths" to me. I really don't know what is so remarkable with this album? Weak three stars.
2,5
Joy Division
2/5
The best of the album for me is the cover artwork. Musically not my jam.
Morrissey
3/5
The second Morrissey album within one week. I'm fully convinced other artists and albums deserve it much more to be on this list instead!!!!!!!!
Besides this fact it is an almost pleasant listen without a single song to really stand out.
btw: I prefer the David Bowie version of "I Know It's Gonna Happen Someday". Weak three stars.

Chicago
3/5
I entered this one quite sceptical. But it turned out that I really enjoyed most of the album! In total maybe a bit too long?! Without true fails ("Free Form Guitar", "Prologue", "Someday", Parts of "Liberation") it has clearly the potential of a four stars album for me.
Bob Dylan
3/5
Although I like most of the Bob Dylan songs a whole album is slightly too much for me. Nonetheless the album contains the well-known hits "Subterranean Homesick Blues", "She Belongs To Me", "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue" and above all "Mr. Tambourine Man".
Beck
3/5
The first half of the album is quite catchy and groovy but then it becomes more and more annoying. Weak three stars.
favourite: "E-Pro", "Qué Onda Guero", "Girl", "Earthquake Weather"

Turbonegro
3/5
Nothing special but it rocks and I like it.
2,5
Booker T. & The MG's
2/5
A pleasant listen although it sounds a bit old fashioned to me.
But I rate it down just because I'm missing at least some vocals.
2,5
Sinead O'Connor
3/5
The mega-hit "Nothing Compares 2 U" plus an o.k. rest.
Mainly carried by her fantastic voice.
Steely Dan
3/5
As always with Steely Dan - technically perfect. But maybe the one Steely Dan album too much for me? Because it don't hooks me in the same way like "Aja" or even more "Pretzel Logic". Weak three stars.
2,5
Moby Grape
2/5
o.k. but it sounds a bit dated to me.
Elvis Presley
2/5
Of course - it is the well-known Elvis-sound. But I'm quite disappointed because I miss at least one remarkable song or one of his hits. And maybe it is all too old-fashioned for me?
2,5
Bee Gees
2/5
It does me no harm. But regarding these prominent names it is only a decent or even dull album.
Judas Priest
3/5
An iconic cover artwork and three all-time-banger ("Breaking The Law", "United", "Living After Midnight") and a decent rest sum up to a strong three stars album for me.
3,5
Sebadoh
3/5
Band an album were all new to me. Although it is mainly the kind of music I like the most, I'm not 100% into the vocals. And just because here and then there are pieces that annoy me, I can only give it the weak three stars.
favourite: "Cliche", "Sacred Attention", "Emma Get Wild", Forced Love"
2,5
Deep Purple
3/5
Pretty fun classic rock album containing the hit "Highway Star" and the all-time-banger "Smoke On The Water". But in total a bit too classic for me.
3,5
Mylo
2/5
Maybe fits more into a club? But for me nothing but background music.
Except "Musclecar (Reform Reprise)" much too lame to destroys anything!
American Music Club
3/5
Another introduction to me. Nothing unique but solid in the best way.
I really enjoyed it.
Bonnie Raitt
3/5
The well produced album had to grow on me. And it has it's sparks when it releases some power ("Thing Called Love", "Love Letter", "Real Man", "I Will Not Be Denied", "The Road's My Middle Name").
Tori Amos
2/5
I've only known her from the radio single "Cornflake Girl".
Over all a decent album with songs full of tension.
But her high voice is not my favour ("Mother"...).
favourite: "Precious Things"
2,5
Neu!
2/5
Musically does me no harm. But the vocals are not my favour.
Def Leppard
4/5
Still a fun album packed with banger (seven singles!!!) although it don't hooks me the same way like then.
Joan Armatrading
3/5
It is almost a pleasant listen and I really like her voice.
But musically not exactly my jam. Strong three stars.
3,5
Machito
2/5
An interesting change from the recent albums but not really my jam.
Manu Chao
3/5
An almost pleasant listen although it is not my preferred style of music. Plus the hit "Bongo Bong - Je ne t'aime plus" aka "King of the Bongo".
