I listened to this a Dylan's Time out of Mind at the same time.
The contrast was amazing. One huge talent that had become boring and irrelevant, contrasting with largely unknown beginning to show the genius that bloom into Ziggy and Aladdin.
Life on Mars by far the best track. And Rik Wakeman's keyboards are out of this world.

I used to like Van Morrison. I liked Them, and his early stuff. Moondance is an absolute classic. Brown Eyed Girl is great. But after a few superlative albums he seemed to go to seed, and just stop trying. Like on this album. Some great songs, and a really good band. But VM just detracts from that. He mumbles. I couldn't listen to Here Comes the Night again. He murders it. Can't even get the tune right.

Blues rock from the late sixties. This should be my kind of music. Beck has always been hailed as a guitarists guitarist. So many of my favourites list him as a major influence. And Ron Wood and Rob Stewart before Rod really found hoarse.
But I hate it. I don't know if Beck is technically great, or innovative or what. But whatever his technical brilliance or innovations I wish he hadn't. They don't add anything for me.

I really liked CCR in the 60/70s. Great tunes, usually with much more drive, more bite, more excitement than so much of the bland stuff that was around.
Wasn't familiar with their albums - couldn't afford albums then. So familiar with a few tracks only. But what a disappointment. They attack each track like a dog savaging a slipper. The vocals are too intense. The guitar a sharp stabbing pain.
And it's so short. 34 minutes! Only 7 tracks! Keep on Chooglin and Draveyard Train are for tooo long. They say what they want to say, then say it again, and again, and again, and again. Any how could anyone think the world need another cover of Good Golly Miss Molly?
Proud Mary is a classic (I did know this was the original, and still the best).
What a disappointment. The greatest Rock n Roll Band ever! So should be great!! Opens with Sympathy for the Devil, one of the BEST tracks ever!!! Brilliant!!!! Follows that by bring us back down with the beautifully wistful No Expectations!!!!! Superlative!!!!!!
But then goes downhill from there. Street Fighting Man has a bit of oomph! Salt of the Earth is good. But the rest. Beautifully played, great production, but just a collection of mediocre country blues. They sound as if they aren't really trying.

The vast majority won't get this! Fantastic musicians playing superb music, far too sophistic for the average punter brought up on the modern pap they call music - "I got together the 100 best composers and arrangers and producers in the world and after a month they had written a song for me" stuff. Music where the video, the the costumes and the dancing are more important than the music stuff.
This is the real thing. You may have to listen to it more than once, but it is worth it.

Most people count get this. It's British, it's Prog, and it's King Crimson. This isn't poppy pap with young "ladies" strutting their stuff and wriggling their bums. This isn't stoned stoners who can barely stand never mind play. This isn't twee C&W. This is real music. Music you have to listen to.
Not music for the background, or while your washing dishes, hoovering or in the bath. Music you have to really listen to, and listen to again, and again. Only then, and only if you have the intelligence, will you appreciate the beauty.

I see a lot of reviews here fail to appreciate this album. More fool them. Its not the first ever instrumental album, or the first instrumental album featuring a single musician. It's not the first Prog album, nor the first prog album to have only a single suit. Nevertheless, t is an important album in the history of modern music. The time signatures, the instrumentation! Unclassifiable, but brilliant. And by a total unknown.

Funk ain't my thing, but this is good funk, particularly One Nation.
OK. I know she's good, but its not my kind of music.
But Natural Woman is a classic.
Hate the high voice. Love the music.

Was getting really bored of all the American keech on here.
Was expecting the Finnish Metal band who won Eurovision many years ago.
So this was a major disappointment.
Because the Night was a major part of my five years at Uni. This isn't quite as good.
