The album that brought rap to the mainstream and it sounds like it. Rapping over rock guitars on the title track, and King of Rock from previous album, is still awesome, and better than the more famous Walk this Way. Some of the boasting gets repetitive, and some songs lean a bit heavy on the misogyny.
Really enjoyable. Clear influence on all alternative music since.
Silver Raven really good and haunting. Lady of the North has really interesting function sections in otherwise standard country rock ballad. No Other is just good 70s rock. Strong, thoughtful lyrics throughout.
Mix of punk, new wave , and 60s rock. Driving baselines.
Very bluesy.
Much less “weird” than I previously thought. Reminiscent of Massive Attack and lo-fi. For the first time I feel like I “get” and like Bjork.
Not bad, but definitely not my thing.
Title track is annoying, but overall album is good.
Lovefool is still a complete ear worm. Rest of the album is pretty enjoyable
Good. Feel like I need multiple listens to form a full opinion
Mostly solid prog rock. Extensive use of piano/organ is interesting. Title track (really suite of 7 songs) is very good and similar to Dark Side. “The only way (hymn)” is weird.
Good lyrics, not my favorite delivery. Beats are okay, “softer” than most rap from the time.
Good blues
Outstanding folk rock. Woody Guthrie’s lyrics are funny, inspiring, depressing.
Undeniably fun to listen to
Unsettling swirling stereo mix on intro and some songs, otherwise as awesome as expected from Hendrix.
Very good musically, somewhat ruined by absurd levels of homophobia and misogyny.
Several masterpieces.
Good blues rock
90s indie/college rock. Power pop. Sounds like Elvis Costello
Samples some great funk beats, but I’d rather just listen to those original tracks. Most songs are way too long
