The Wildest!
Louis PrimaCool album Lots of twists and turns and mix of jazz rock n roll and blues
Cool album Lots of twists and turns and mix of jazz rock n roll and blues
Fun, bouncy listen Even though it’s 45 years old, this could easily find a home on the radio now. Simple beats and rhythms. Appeals to teenage me and my poppy punky leanings
Tried…..just couldn’t get into it
Good listen. Know a handful of songs from this band. After listening to this album I know where all the indie bands from the last couple decades have been cribbing from. Lots of good sounds and grooves
High energy record. Lots of cool baselines and guitar parts. I think based on this album, a Prince concert would be a lot of fun.
Cool album Lots of twists and turns and mix of jazz rock n roll and blues
Found myself getting a bit bored/uninterested while listening Had to remind myself that this album is 30+ years old and has influenced so many artists since
Nope. Listening to this makes me feel like I’m watching the credits from one of the Blade movies all the way to the end Reminds me of is bad haircuts, neck chains, and stupid rave clothes Wasn’t a fan when it came out and that remains true to this day
Fantastic album
A bit one note for me You’re angry. Check. You’re really clever and great with words/lyrics. Check. Great production. Check. Dated throwback from the early 00s where it was cool to be violent and casually misogynistic.
A very pleasant surprise Lots of interesting sounds and songs that take you on a journey. Wasn’t expecting anything from this album and really really enjoyed listening to it
Ooh boy. Boring music and introspective, esoteric lyrics. I felt like I was stuck in a tavern of olde, trapped listening to a travelling minstrel play, and the tavern was out of ale.
Brilliant album So many cool sounds and textures Just reeks of sin, filth, greed, shame and all of the other human vices/emotions Pretty Hate Machine is awesome and this album takes that aesthetic and makes it even darker
Tough Album Sparse and haunting Leaves you alone with your thoughts and feelings in between tones. Introspective and challenging. Don’t know if I’ll listen to it again but I enjoyed the challenges it presented
Mellow easy listen but didn’t get much beyond background music for me. Nice harmonies and music Reminiscent of Jim Croce, Gordon Lightfoot, and Neil Young
Middling listen Song 2 has been so overused by every Canadian sports franchise building that despite it being a great track, it makes me skip the tune. Death of a party and Essex Dogs were my favs. Some good dub/dancehall sounds and a fun listen. Rest of the album I was meh on
Average album Some interesting beats but generally not my kinda music Ahead of its time sound wise
Listened to this on family road trips as a kid. Doesn’t get any simpler that that. Enjoyed hearing this again
Listened to the deluxe remastered edition. I remember a lot of the big singles. Still hold up really well. Some of the other tracks are just kinda mediocre. Found myself liking more of the b sides and demos and live stuff. Showed a bit more levity and experimentation that the original album didn’t let shine because it was so focused on one kind of sound.
Had to listen to it twice to make an opinion Some really awesome sounds and arrangements I’m a huge fan of alt county and hear this band influencing a lot of bands I enjoy.
Classic Loud gloomy doomy listen Perfect album
Excellent listen. Rad album Nice harmonies and mélodies And can’t beat a little In My Life!
Super rad Forgot how good this album is
Goody white boy party rock. Some tracks aged well some didn’t No Sleep Til Brooklyn is still one of the best cock rock songs ever, even unintentionally
Ah Franz Ferdiepants Pretty easy listen Jangly poppy dancy guitar music that dominated the early aughts. Some interesting guitar parts and some cool grooves but not something I’d return to regularly. In the same vein as Futureheads, Razorlight, Modest Mouse.
Nice voice Easy listen Not sure I’d revisit it but was a decent listen
As someone else so eloquently said “music made by hobbits” Some neat arrangements and guitar work. A neither bad or good listen. Just not my style
Fun, bouncy listen Even though it’s 45 years old, this could easily find a home on the radio now. Simple beats and rhythms. Appeals to teenage me and my poppy punky leanings
Already had one Eminem album on here This is more of the same I get that it was innovative and edgy at the time, but it hasn’t aged well and is cringey
Fun Saturday morning listen Forgot how fun and mellow these guys are Good hooks and samples. Fun beats and positive messages Seeing them at Warped Tour one year in the early 00s was a highlight of an otherwise homogenous lineup.
Didn’t even have to listen to this one…..but I did! Loved this album and band since high school. Angry, brash, loud, and awesome. And some hidden melodic elements too, which made it different from some of the other bands of the era. This is the smart punk Henry Rollins wishes he could have come up with! Love Cashin’ In. Always thought it leaned towards what Fugazi would end up doing.
Love Ray Charles Cool premise, some songs were great, others seemed dated Born to Lose was a highlight!
Really enjoyed this album Too often forget that behind the loud cars, beards, and fuzzy-spinny guitars lies a really talented band. Solid listen end to end (even la grange which I often skip on the radio) Will have to dig into more of their back catalogue
Not my thing but some interesting and delicate melodies Voice gets a bit grating at times
Fun easy listening Made me wish I was near a beach and had a pair of white haviianas!
Wanted to dislike this album so much as I just never cared for her image or ethos Nice album. Good voice, good music, and she’s got swagger. If I’d heard this album not knowing who it was, and no preconceptions, I would have liked it without a doubt, glad I gave it a listen
Tried…..just couldn’t get into it
This was a weird middling listen Liked the 90s sound aesthetic. Parts reminded me of RHCP (bass lines), some REM, and a bit of seaweed. Album was a bit all over the place, almost like as if a drunk, depressed man couldn’t figure out what kind of music he wanted to mope to, so listened to all different kinds. Intriguing enough to merit a deeper look into their catologue.
Solid album Great interpretations of songs from an artist who owed the world nothing when he recorded them. Really enjoyed it
I wanted to hate this album so much based on my profound dislike of Morissey and his tired/predictable antics. Alas, not to be. Really liked it. Music and guitar work were spot on. And Morissey has a nice voice and lyrics were good. More Smiths back catalogue digging required! Solo stuff not so much!
Stellar just stellar First jazz record. Really dig it. Another genre I need to learn more about
Fun listen Good reminder 90s hip hop wasn’t all gangster murder violence music Found myself focusing more on the beats than the lyrics at times…..probably because yesterday was a John Coltrane album. Runnin’ is still one of my favorite songs of theirs (even though it’s not on this album)
Delicate harmonies and the singer has a nice voice. I found the album overall to be one note/tone and didn’t ever change tempo. Lots of wistful, melancholy ballads that weren’t inspiring at all. People at whatever folk fests this band plays at probably love them. Admittedly not my musical taste.
I tried….made it a few songs in Some songs sounded like AC/DC and others were power ballads Not my thing. Maybe I’ll give it another go later as I do like some of their other stuff
A honky tonk good time Nice voice. Good guitar. Some cool sounds - liked the zydeco esque parts on some songs. Very much enjoyed this record
Liked the music more than the voice. I never cared for Joni Mitchell’s voice growing up and that still stands. Very talented artist, just not my taste.1
It’s so easy to forget that before Flavor Flav became a reality tv show caricature (and the cringey later album titles), Public Enemy was an amazing band. Great lyrics, boom bap sound that rivalled any gangster rap of the day. Easy fun rowdy listen
In the club and heat. What more can you ask for. Sound and lyrics are dated af but it’s a great album
Super album Great voice. Awesome music. And lyrics that have good meaning and insight into the world.
You either love AC/DC or you’re like my friend Nathan and loathe them. If you love them, then you need to decide are you a Bon Scott or Brian Johnson fan. Loved this album. Love AC/DC and love Bon Scott. Grimy riffs. Good Tempo. Fun album all around Might have to go to the shop and get a sausage roll now!
Easy one! Great Album Love the foil/counterfoil songwriting duo of Hood and Cooley. Great stories and awesome one liners abound in this album. Zip City, Southern Thing, and Angels and Fuselage are killers. I read some of the criticisms of this album as “Southern Rock” and Skynrd comparisons. DBT was pretty transparent about where they were coming from. It’s also the great thing about this band….every album is different in style and approach. Early stuff was lots of storytelling and more about the South which evolved into modern commentary about the same kind of things happening in the world. Great Album Great Band. Highly recommend seeing them if you ever get the chance.
Interesting and polarizing album Some songs were incredible and others sounded like a wino ranting while playing a child’s xylophone Definitely deserves further exploration as an artist
Full disclosure….not a beck fan. No Hipster beck, no catchy radio song beck, and definitely no sad beck. No turntables and no microphones! Appreciate the music and arrangements in parts, but just not for me.
A classic. The sound created by this band in the 70s inspired and guided so many artists. A fun listen. Sidenote: My favorite Kraftwerk memory happened when they toured Canada in 2015. I went with my girlfriend (now wife) and brother in law (now ex). Show was mind blowing. Such a great visual experience and just fun all around. After the show, I asked my wife, who isn’t a huge music aficionado (she’s had the same 150-200 songs on her iTunes for the entirety of our relationship, and at least three of them are Shaggy) what she thought. She looked at me and said “what the hell did I just sit through?”. Rad album
Admittedly, I was predisposed to not liking this album based on knowing their track “War”. Pleasantly surprised. Lots of fun sounds and tempos and tones. City, Country, City was a highlight. Thumbs up to this record. Was a great listen.
Amazing album. Lots of grit and swagger and down n dirty guitar. Play this one loud as you can!
Slowhand….blues….what more needs to be said Really liked this album
Meh
Wasn’t really for me Lots of different sounds and textures but they never lined up for me
Was not a fan of this album as a teenager Didn’t get the whole craze around this band I appreciated this way more as a middle aged person. Caustic, Corrosive, distortion heavy goodness Singles from this album I never cared for. Still stands But songs like dumb and very ape and radio friendly unit shifter are amazing Not often a band eschews further polish and refinement in favor of less production and more grit
This one’s a nope
White English guys do black musicians songs. Nuff said. Not a bad album and I see why it got them attention but it’s a bit middling today
