Bridges the gap between traditional american blues rock and the more typical tuareg music. Very cool. Good for anyone wanting to dip their toes into that sound.

Something I can listen to in bursts. A really cool sound. 1/2 hardcore punk, 1/2 freejazz.
3.5
Love how crazy but smooth this is.
Bridges the gap between traditional american blues rock and the more typical tuareg music. Very cool. Good for anyone wanting to dip their toes into that sound.
Yes I do like jazz Mr. Benson. What about it?

The Stones arguably at their best and most boisterous. Some of their best ballads and some of their best rockers. Bitch, Wild Horses, Knocking, Dead Flowers, and controversially, Brown Sugar. Regarding Brown Sugar, I want to give my two cents. I know a lot of people have written off this song and their minds can not be changed. If that is you, I don't wish to change your mind or belittle your feelings. The opinion that this song is offensive/fetish is valid and fair, and ultimately your gut feeling when listening to the lyrics is probably the most correct feeling for you. I just see it a bit differently. Its a long-held tradition in rock/metal/punk to write the lyrics to your song from the perspective of horrible, despicable people. For an example of this, just look at any number of anti-fascist punk songs that feature a fascist narrator to illustrate how disgusting the ideology is. Mick Jagger was no stranger to this, especially as his life stabilized throughout the 70's. I don't know if he ever stated it explicitly, but this song has always seemed to me as an example of that. Its always read to me as Mick calling out the hypocrisy of the racist white oppressors who also fetishize black women. The lyrics are despicable BECAUSE he is portraying a despicable person. This is Mick Jagger's Colonel Lockjaw. If you disagree, or the song still makes you sick to your stomach, that's fine. That's just how I see things.
A few too many songs. 3.5
Been a life long Lizzy fan so I'm biased. This plays like a greatest hits collection almost. My only complaint is that most songs are played straight with no cool interludes or jams, but other than that, the energy here is palpable. Put this on while driving a long curvy road and prepare to feel pure joy. Better than Kiss Alive and Frampton Comes Alive any day.
I liked Behaviour. This is more of the same.
I'm a Georgia native, so the history of Appalachia fascinates me. I was not excited to listen to this album but as soon as I put it on, I was blown away. The sound of this is bluegrass and country staples played fairly straight but with plenty of skill from people who very obviously cared about these songs and their cultural significance. Some of these players had been playing these songs for nearly 40 years. This is real southern history to be proud of. Populist, beautiful, and full of human spirit. As Georgia becomes more suburbanized and tainted by the stink of capitalism and faceless corporations, as more and more of our resources and land is gobbled up for data centers, mining, and other industries, its sad to see that most of this history is forgotten in the wake. I tell everyone I know to listen to the Allman Brothers, or Blackfoot, or Atlanta Rhythm Section. I tell them to learn about Georgia's heroes before the big boom period of the 90s and now. I tell them to learn more about Jimmy Carter and his legacy outside the White House. This album will absolutely be added to that cultural canon. A little long for sure, but I wouldn't cut a single song or dialogue part.

Devastating
A beautiful and atmospheric trip. Great album for a nature walk.
Solid enough folk album. Gillian has a great voice and the songs have plenty of emotion. Could have been a bit shorter. 3.5
Tons of fun.
3.5
Found this boring in a few places, but I appreciate its significance in the glam scene.
Solid enough dance pop. Missing some bangers
4.5. Nina may not have the largest range, but she has the rawness, the honesty, and emotion to elevate these songs.

Fun. Fast. Energetic. Wild in the Streets is better.
A few duds. There are better WS albums imo.
3.5
I'm sure when this came out it was probably quite revolutionary for this band. Nowadays it feels like the start of everything that went wrong with u2.
3.5. Enjoyable but a little bland.
A mixed bag, but probably the best document for showing who the Beatles were. Meme lords, pop-songwriting savants, experimental weirdos, and tender balladeers.
Johnny rules at crowd banter. You can tell he had fun here. Do people still do prison concerts? I feel like we should bring those back.
Some of the most fun, coked-up 80s pop bangers. Just enough oddity, abrasiveness, and sexuality to throw you off but not make you too uncomfortable. How can anyone hate this?
Cooler than your favorite side of the pillow.
Flows very well. Lots of highlights. 4.5
Endlessly catchy and fun. Could easily become a 5 with relistens. For fans of the Breeders, Buzzcock, Bikini Kill, etc...
I prefer the darkness of In The Flat Field, but this is still great.
Strange and fun, but time has really removed a lot of the relevance and oddity of this.
Liked this album way more as a kid.
Meh. 2.5
Least favorite of the classic run but still great.
3.5
Servicable early country record. Merle's live albums are bit more interesting and fun to listen to. For people that wish they liked this more, or people who loved it, try his 1985 live album Amber Waves of Grain.
Great vibe. 3.5

Already a huge fan of Ali and Ry so this was treat. Honestly all of Ry Cooder's collab albums are excellent (Meeting by the River, Buena Vista Social Club) because he walks a thin line between letting the featured artist showcase their unique abilities while also bringing enough western blues influence make it different from the original sound. The real highlight is the inclusion of drones in a lot of songs. Almost every track features a grounding note in the background that gives a very meditative and peaceful tone to all the tracks. Great stuff. And Ali Farka Toure really shines on this with his complex guitar lines. He's the king of Tuareg music for a reason.
Exists in a liminal space between all the britpop bands of that time period. Good but nothing special.
Classic hardcore punk for sure, but lacks some the elements that are key to the genre. Later Black Flag records are actually more emblematic of the genre than this imo.
Prine's lyrics are very interesting, but musically it all flows together. 3.5
This kind of raga/brit pop fusion could have been cool but the songwriting is just too weak imo.
