The final side is unnecessary. The first three sides are phenomenal.

Very dodgy middle but brilliant maximalist pop either side

The faster songs are brilliant, dreamy new ordery style. The slow ones are like mud.

Surprisingly good

Awash with sound but it's only when the band pick up the tempo and create a sense of urgency that it really delivers

DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS IF IT'S LIGHT OUTSIDE. This album made no sense to me, in fact I found Nick Cave to be quite boring until I went out into the wet and windy night. As soon as I stepped out, this became a rich and rewarding listen. Dark music for dark times.

Demonstrably awful

So not my bag but three stars for effort. 28 songs in 33 mins.

Disappointed I didn't like this more but I just don't think I get Damon Albarn

Not as many hits as you'd expect but still a joyous album

Full force kaleidoscope of sounds

Brilliantly of it's time to the extent that the only way to fully appreciate it would be to listen whilst on an acid trip.

34 minutes of dreary music punctuated by one good song, "A Forest".

Brilliant. So ahead of it's time. Stella liked this one.

Possibly the best pop album ever?? Their absolute peak.

Having never listened to an Elvis album I didn't know what the expect. What I got was a while bunch of ideas masquerading as songs. Each one undeveloped as if it didn't really matter whether the song went anywhere because that's not what he was really about.

Really liked this, just not sure when I'd listen to it, it's so moody!

Mad as a box of frogs but brilliant anyway

Very glam, very musical/music hall

Sad. Really sad. Not sure why an album recorded in these circumstances and so obviously the product of someone deeply unwell (and therefore not very good at all) made it onto this list.

Music to feel desperately sad to but everybody needs that once in a while
