Adored this. Haven't actually sat down and listened to The White Stripes prior to this and they're phenomenal. Picked up a couple new favorite songs.
Not the biggest fan here. I've no problems with it from a production standpoint but it's just not doing anything for me in any other way. I'm disappointed, I wanted to like it more.
I feel it's cheating to rate this one higher than the Lou Reed album, its simply more approachable. That said I did end up listening through it twice. I've heard more of these songs, I think it pops up on classic radio sometimes.
Very interesting album. I think this might be the first true funk album I've ever heard. It was a fun listen, but just didn't quite click for me. Somewhere in the "I'd listen to it if it was on but wouldn't put it on myself" category. Might try to listen to more of this artist though.
Was not expecting this to be what the band that made Creep sounds like, somehow. I really liked it, though it was much more melancholy than I typically enjoy.
Pretty good album. Fun listen the whole way through, and its obvious why they call MJ the King of Pop. That said it sort of blended together, I didn't even realize I'd finished it until it started repeating.
The songs were really well crafted in this album. Enjoyed listening all the way through, though it made me feel really sad. The mix of genres blended together really well.
This one felt a lot like a breakup album. It seemed good but I just couldn't get over that vibe.
Very strange album, but in a good way. I got a strong background music/soundtrack vibe. I love genres that blend modern musical ideas with folk tradition and this seemed to be in that same vein. Definitely keeping this one for later.
This one was just okay. I found some of it a little interesting but I don't have many thoughts on it. Probably wouldn't listen to it again.
Also found this album underwhelming. There was nothing in particular I could point to that was wrong with it, but I didn't care for it. I think maybe I don't care much for love songs/albums perhaps.
Excellent album. Had a great time listening to it, I think I ended up going through the whole thing around 3-4 times. I'd heard some of the songs before but the whole thing as an experience was even better.
Found this one pretty interesting. Not entirely sure what to make of it. It almost sort of clicks with stuff I normally listen to, but it's just not quite the same wheelhouse. Might look into this artist more some other time.
I tried to not let my preconceptions about country effect me too much here but I don't think I did a good job. It wasn't quite a "I never want to hear this again" but I just wasn't into it.
This one was okay. Freebird and Three Steps are classics but rue rest was sort of forgettable for me.
Hard pass here. It wasn't so bad I had to turn it off but I spent the whole time feeling it was long and wishing it was over.
Some albums almost feel like cheating rating them well because the artist in question is just good. This is one of them lmao. The first song, Around The World, pulls a Crazy Train on you by promising a completely different song with its opening before delivering something else entirely.
I used to listen to a bunch of Buddy Holly with my father as a kid. He had a best of collection. Hearing a whole album that might be the only decent way to listen to Buddy, the end of the album became somewhat forgettable. I think some kind of nostalgia is softening my opinion of the music but I did still enjoy it.
No. Just no.
Pretty good. Reminded me of some songs off of the Cyberpunk anime sound track.
I sort of knew I liked Run-D.M.C. but this album was a surprise to listem to. Had a great time.
First album I've intentionally not finished. I swear the guitarist only learned opening riffs to songs, not the whole song.
Pretty good. I've heard Springsteem before and this didn't feel like his finest work but I mostly enjoyed it.
Didn't manage to get all the way through it, may adjust my rating if I get back to it and finish. Not my favourite of Elvis, but it was still good.
Very interesting album, I really like folk music combined with more modern styles. A little weird in places but that was a plus to me.
Not entirely sure how to feel about this one. I've never had an album fluctuate so wildly between grating and interesting. Maybe there was a sound quality issue with the version I listened to, I'm unsure.
Pretty good album. I've got no particular thoughts on it but it was a nice listen.
Billy Joel feels like cheating to rate highly, he's just consistently good.
System of a Down is always a very sometimes band for me and this was no exception. It was fine, sure, but I wasn't over the moon about it.
Solidly meh. Not grating or bad and I didn't want to quit listening but I wasn't excited either.
Such a mess of an album. Half the songs are interesting and weird. The other half are boring and weird. A few of these are going to be repeat listens of mine.
Not quite as good as Elephant, but damn do I love Jack White on guitar.
A good album for Eleanor Rigby alone. Not entirely crazy about the whole album though but overall I had no major complaints.
I like this artist a lot, I've heard her before on the Fallout soundtracks. This album was enjoyable but I didn't find myself particularly hooked into it or anything.
I mean, duh. Its QUEEN. In all seriousness I think this album is absolutely fantastic and the art for it is iconic for a reason.
This one just felt alright. For some reason reminds me of the Beatles. Not something I'm going to be looking into more.
Really funny to get this right after an album that sort of reminded me of the Beatles. It was alright but I didn't find myself particularly blown away or engaged. Easy listen.
Liked this one more than I expected. Not my normal style of music but was worth hearing at least once.
Absolutely phenomenonal album. Waits is really funny on MC, the music is incredible, and I love the atmosphere. Makes me want to sit in a poorly lit, smoky jazz club, sip a cocktail, and hear this live.
Had a good time with this one. It felt like there were a few genre shifts but they blended together very well.
Pretty good. I understand why most of the songs on this album aren't radio popular, even the ones I really liked could feel like they dragged on a bit. That said Tears for Fears has a sound I really love.
The album was pretty good but I was in a bad mood for it.
This one was super interesting but I had mixed feelings. Some of the choices in the production were kind of obnoxious but the genre and style were right up my alley.
I'm not sure what I was expecting from the album but that wasn't it. It was weird, but I mean that as a compliment here.
Really liked most of this album. The instrumentals were incredibly well done and the singing was great. Felt like the last couple songs dragged but otherwise a phenomenal experience.
I love Metallica, and Enter Sandman may be one of the best songs they've ever made. This album does not disappoint.
A nice, sort of funky feel to this album. I don't have a lot of thoughts on it but the listening experience was enjoyable.
Weird and experimental and I loved it.
Pretty interesting album. Has a distinctly 90s feel that I was struggling to quantify.
I don't listen to much R&B, but this was a pretty solid album.
It was okay. I didn't have many thoughts on this one.
A fine album. Didnt find myself over the moon but it was a fun listen.
Pretty easy listen but not really my jam. As a funny anecdote I never new that the Beach Boys covered one of these songs until I listened to it here.
Very fun listen. Was surprised by the range, some of the music had a really decent base presence.
This album was just fine? Wasn't really enthused.
I don't really know what to say. It was an okay listen but I wasn't incredibly interested for most of it.
I liked the first half much more than the second half, the up beat songs were my jam. Still a very good album all the way through.
So utterly forgettable I couldn't remember much about the songs only a few hours after I'd listened to it.
I was somewhat interested at the start of the album but it lost me pretty quick. Not a huge fan of some of the mixing choices.
Interesting album. I didn't even notice how long the songs were because I was enjoying the music.
Good album, really enjoyed it. Zeppelin is always good time and this hit the spot.
The instrumentals were fine I suppose, but the singing was grating and I disliked the pacing.
More fun to listen to than some others, but I didn't find it anything special. Vaguely reminded me of Skynyrd weirdly enough.
It wasn't so bad I wanted to shut it off, but I really did not like this album. Just noise, didn't like how almost any of the lyrics sounded, the instruments were fine sometimes? Something about Sonic Youth just bothers me.
I really liked this album and it's vibe. Some of the songs felt a bit long, but the music was on point.
Felt really good to listen to, though not particularly special. Not many other notes I can make here honestly.
I've always gotten a very melancholy feel from the song Hotel California, and the album sort of delivers the same vibe. I liked it, but I'm not sure I could listen to it all the time.
Some of the songs here delve into that long, repetitive feeling I've started to be less tolerant of. That said, I really like them for the most part. The guitar and drum work is very well done imo.
Had a good time with this one. Very chill, super nice sound and rhythm.
Quite a few of the songs on this album made me stop and go "damn." Wonderful instrumentals and overall vibe.
I enjoyed this one. I somehow was not expecting it to get into the more experimental music at the end, but I blame that on my unfamiliarity with Bowie.
I like Van Halen too much to even pretend this was an unbiased listen. Not every song on the album is a banger but they're damn close.
Fantastic album. Rap has always been a genre I've struggled to get into but this album was approachable without feeling like it was too simple. The beats and verses seemed good too, though I'm not familiar enough with the genre to know how good it is on a grander scale.
I started out thrilled by this album but enjoyed it less and less as it went on for some reason. I don't think the music was actually any different throughout but I liked the first song the most.
Ray Charles is one of those artists I've heard of a lot without having really heard much of their music. This album was pretty good, but I didn't find myself blown away by it. Perhaps I need to listen to it again sometime, but for now I'm rating it off my first impression.
This turned surprisingly atmospheric in the middle. Not a bad thing by any means but my limited knowledge of Dire Straits hadn't prepared me for it. Pretty decent album if nothing ground breaking.
Aretha Franklin's voice is fantastic and the songs are catchy, I see why she has the rep she does. That said I wasn't in particularly blown away by this album? A fun listen but no wow factor here.
The only thing I can think of to say about this particular album is "eh? That was okay." Some good songs, some pretty mid songs.
Not sure how I felt about this one. Some very well made songs, but didn't particularly resonate with me or keep me interested. I think I have to give it sort of a low rating but it's entirely entirely subjective thing.
Man, surf rock. I have a soft spot for the Beach Boys in particular because I grew up listening to them. At the same time it's so... Boring? I think that's the word. Very little interesting or complex or even unique happening. But I can't pretend I didn't really enjoy it.
Eh? There were some neat songs on this album but it just generally wasn't very memorable to me. Might relisten at some point to see if I was wrong but I'm unsure.
I'm a little surprised. Zeppelin felt like a band that should have been my thing but I ended up feeling pretty ambivalent to the album.
Not normally my style but I liked this a lot. Very well made, interesting songs. Had a lot of fun listening to this one.
At first I really didn't like this one, and by the end of it I ended up listening to the whole thing twice. I'm still not entirely sure how I feel about i either. The background of the production is kind of horrible. It feels pretentious and avantgarde just for the sake of it at times. But there's something oddly compelling about it. I think I'm giving this a 5, but at the same time I'm not sure if it's earned it.
It was fine? I didn't have much else to say about it really.
At best this one was just okay. I spent most of the album wishing I was listening to something else unfortunately.
My final thoughts can sort of be summed up as "Eh?" I think. There's some things I really like here, good guitar riffs and drums, some songs I like more than others. But overall this is not an album I want to be listening to frequently.
Had a lot of fun listening to this one. Felt generally upbeat and exciting, didn't wear out its welcome.
Absolutely fascinating album. While the music itself was technically probably similar to quite a few things, I was still left with the impression that I've never heard anything quite like this. Loved it.
This was a weird experience for me. I know I listened to this album, and even know I enjoyed it. Yet I can't remember anything about it. Not being very memorable isn't a bad thing but it is sort of a disappointment.
This was a good listen. I always forget how dark Eminem's work can be until I hear it again. Not going to be something I pick up listening to often.
I just felt like this album was pretty forgettable.
I've been getting more and more into the experimental stuff as I listen to more of these albums, but this just didn't hit right. I had a few moments I really liked, and a few that I really wanted to stop listening.
