1001 Albums Summary

Nina Simone's voice and piano add strength to the content of her lyrics. Her song "Four Women" are still relevant in these times, especially given the right-wing blow back to any person of color assertion of their self identity.

Love this album! "Despite all my rage, I'm still just a rat in a cage!" Who hasn't felt that angst in their own life?

Being from Chicago I was fortunate to have WXRT as the radio on which I kept my dial set. This station to only played classic rock music from the 60's and 70's, but as the years went on, they would play new and emerging music. I became aware of the Pixies by listening to 'XRT and from the music my son liked as well.

What can I say that hasn't already be said? Jimi was the best rock and roll guitarist ever. This third album from Jimi Hendrix Experience is exceptional.

In my opinion, Elton John’s first 3 albums were the best! Every song on this classic piece of rock is terrific.

Although not usually a fan of country-western music, Marty Robbins iconic songs "El Paso" and "Cool Water" were popular when I was a child. This album was released when I was five years old, and although we weren't a musical family, the radio station my mom had on during the day would occasionally feature some of these songs.

Although this is a without a doubt a great album, this current lineup was not my favorite. I became a fan of Fleetwood Mac in 1971 when I heard "Future Games" when I was a junior in high school. This led me look back and learn about the original line-up with Peter Green and Jeremy Spencer. So for me, my favorite Fleetwood Mac albums are "Future Games, Bare Trees", and "Mystery to Me." And I think it's a shame that Bob Welsh was included when the group was inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

After 50 years, this album still holds up.

I thought the production of this album was good. However, I'm not a big fan of this genre. But for those who enjoy this music, this is something they would enjoy.

This first album from the Police came out when I was 25 years old. It is a classic and still holds up well.

This is one of the all-time greatest albums by The Who. I have had this album in my collection of vinyl and compact discs since it was released in 1971. It is a classic and every track of this album is fanatastic.

I had never heard of this group and I can't figure out why not. Eclectic and electric with unexpected lyrics. I found the very interesting.

I was a fan of R.E.M. during the 1980’s. The songs were catchy and the albums were well produced. I think of it now as pop music with a conscience.

I have always been a fan of ZZ Top. There’s something about a hard rocking, power trio that speaks to me. This is a great album.

This is the classic southern rock. Obviously, this LP got a lot radio play on AM and FM stations. "Give Me Three Steps," "Simple Man, " "Tuesday's Gone," and, of course, "Free Bird" still receive a lot of airplay on current Classic Rock stations. I own this LP and it still gets a lot of play!

In my opinion this is one of the worst Fleetwood Mac albums, produced by the most popular iteration of Fleetwood Mac. This 20 song LP is a complete abandonment of their blues origins.

Classic album by one of rock and roll's finest singers. I remember watching Jane appear and perform in the late 1960's and early 1970's on Dick Cavett. She was amazing.

The first Doors album. What an introduction to one of the best groups to come out of LA in the late 1960's. Every album the Doors released following their initial effort was an improvement on a perfect debut.

I was never a fan of Nico. She has an interesting voice, but her songs seemed to have been more spoken than actually sung. She seemed off-key, and if not for her association with Andy Warhol, I doubt she would have received any recognition for her musicianship.

Great album. Nirvana and Clapton appearing on MTV and doing their unplugged concerts was quality entertainment. The subsequent recordings were terrific!

This was a good LP. I enjoyed Bob Mould’s music ever since he started out with Hüsker Dü, so I was familiar with some of the tunes on this album. Very enjoyable in a punk, alt- rock way.

One of the first conception albums by the Kinks, one of the original “British Invasion” groups from the 1960’s. “Victoria” and “Shangri-La” were the 2 cuts that received the most airplay.A good, solid listen.

this was an interesting album. I was a little put off by the first track, but as the album progressed i came to appreciate the quirky lyrics, which were poetic than most popular lyrics, where the rhyme scheme seems more important than the actual message. Good album.

I’m not a fan of death/ thrash heavy metal. This album did not change that.

Although I could not understand the lyrics, the rhythm, melody, and overall tone of this music was quite appealing.

This was a classic example of the late 1970's punk that came out of New York. I have always enjoyed the Ramones, and listening again to this after many years, I still found it enjoyable.

This second album from Santa showed their second album lived up to the hype that was generated by the first album. This album had hits that played in regular commercial AM radio popular rock stations. The whole album slayed on the rising FM radio stations that utilized album formats. This is a classic album! And Carlos Santana has continued to get better!

Classic album by Steve Winwood, Chris Wood, and Jim Capaldi. When this album was released I wondered how the group would sound minus Dave Mason. The answer was - terrific!

This is a great album full of Harry Nilsson's quirky songs.

I really liked this album.

Miles Davis was a gift. He was not afraid to always experiment and grow. That's why he is the best trumpet player. I like this album more than "Bitches Brew," but "Kind of Blue" will forever be my favorite.

Classic Led Zeppelin, an album I still own on vinyl.

Not quite as good as "All Things Must Past," George Harrison first post-Beatles sole endeavor, but significantly better than Lennon's "Plastic Ono," and way better than Paul McCartney's "McCartney."

I've been a fan of Steve Winwood throughout his career; starting with The Spencer Davis Group, Traffic, Blind Faith, and his many solo projects. This is one of the many albums that are listed in this 1001 list that I own.

Ever since the release of this album, I have been all in on Elvis Costello.

Considering when this album was released, it was very prescient vis-à-vis punk rock in its tone and lyrics. Recorded in 1966, this group of U.S. service members stationed in Germany were obviously drafted and not volunteers.

First album released by the Rolling Stones wherein all but one of the songs were covers of previously released blues music by American artists.

This is a great album. although not as great as "What's Going On" (though very few albums are). It had a different vibe than "what's Going On," with "Let's Get It On" being more of a romantic album than one with the important social context of "What's Going On.:

I'm giving this album a 3 star rating strictly for the sake of nostalgia.
