1001 Albums Summary

Not for me, but I can understand the appeal.

Wish I liked it more, tbh. Some cool storytelling in the lyrics of some songs. I think I would enjoy it more if I were in a different mood.

This is so 80’s in a way that is difficult to articulate (derogatory and non-derogatory). I would never expect songs with names and lyrics like this today… for whatever that is worth lol. Did not expect a song named “Allergies” to be a banger.

Hell yeah. I didn’t know some of their most iconic songs were on this album, so it was exciting to hear them. There was a lot more instrumental music than I was expecting, which was fun… but wasn’t as exciting to me.

I can imagine listening to this at the cusp of Y2K in a dingy, sweaty club. Fun, dance-y vibes. Why that one song sound like an orgy though.

Meh! Will need to try again another time.

Very British 90s.

Ehhh. “Greenman” was super exciting for the first bit and then the lyrics kicked in. I think this would be a fun album if I was blitzed out of my gourd. I am unfortunately not. “Your Dictionary” was… cringey. Only didn’t skip because I needed to know how bad it would get. Had to start skipping songs after that.

I enjoyed the energy of the first few tracks and he lost me a bit in the middle when it became more rap (but that’s because of my preferences).

More fun version of 90s British rock than I expected. Yay!

I actually already had one of their songs saved as one I liked but didn’t know it until I got to that point of the album, haha. Really interesting and electric album.

The way this album had society in a chokehold back in the day still reverberates in me because I am extremely susceptible to a lady who can absolutely belt it. Ilu Adele.

Fun! I can see how The Arctic Monkeys were maybe influenced by them.

Enjoying more than I thought! Has such a familiar feel despite not having listened to Phair’s work before, which I guess goes to show what an influence she has had!

Wow. Reminded me of Glass Animals + Tom Cardy + absurdism. Felt like I needed to be on a fair amount of drugs to really appreciate this.

I am a self-proclaimed not-a-country fan, but like Americana and folksy music… because I like to be contradictory or something, I guess. This is the soft kind of Americana/country I can get behind. Great for a soft evening.

Liked more than I thought, but many also just ran together in my brain.

Saddest soft boy. Classic example of a beautiful song that when you really pay attention to the lyrics you go, “Oh no.” Enjoyed the last instrumental a lot!

Start off strong, and then gets a little boring. The shoutout “ilu friends and also god” track was funny(?).

These were fun, with a few standout tracks. Mixing was a bit wonky over car stereo.

These songs are LONG but fun jams. (Fela seems to have a very impressive but complex history…)

Some of the songs are a little too wild lyrics-wise for me. But the songs instrumentally were good!

I enjoyed this even if it felt a little silly at times.

Had some fun, but mostly bored.

Very late 60’s jamming trippy guitar musics. Nice to have on in the background, but I’m not overly wild about it. Kind of boring after a while for me. Enjoyed the xylophone in “Hunting Song” between the interweaving voices.

I did find some elements grating, but overall enjoyed the atmospheric vibes.

I can appreciate the lyrics and samples but I just don’t vibe with most of their sound… just not my style.

This was really fun. Very much enjoyed, it felt like a cleaner (like crispy and exciting) and more fun sound than other albums of the era we’ve been served up.

I like his sound a lot (heard some of his other work), but I didn’t find this live album the best for the majority of the songs. But DANG he’s got talent.

Late night sad boy musics. Not as great in the middle of the day and you don’t want to feel in a doldrum.

I have never heard this famous singer’s music before, I don’t think. I understand why this British Monkey Movie Man’s music has captured a lot of hearts. Clear voice, fun beats! Enjoyable fun.

I don’t think this links to the correct “album”, though and is instead a compilation playlist. Of which half the songs are not on Sp0tify… but found his eponymous album and enjoyed. Short, sweet, and fun.

I mean it was a banger starting off with Birdland soooo… (pep band nostalgia sorry lol). I really enjoyed a handful of these for late evening jamming. Others were v boring 80s hold music style tracks that made me feel like I was working at the garden store again, wanting to bash my head in. 3.5 stars. ❤️

I was ready to bounce off this, but ended up grooving instead.

Why am I a little salty that Linda isn’t listed as one of the album artists? Anyway - opening track felt so familiar… like a predecessor, a less indie-whinging version of a band I’m having trouble naming. (The Decemberists????)

Queen is always fun. Not sure I knew any of these except Killer Queen beforehand, but still fun.

I think if they stripped out some of the extra grating backing sounds it would have been a real set of bangers for me. But still enjoyable!

So far I am not drowning in harmonica, which I appreciate it. Dylan is such an amazing lyricist. Very enjoyable. (3.5, rounded up)
