No Other
Gene ClarkExcellent, and brand new to me as well. This is what this 1001 album experience is all about, what a gem!
Excellent, and brand new to me as well. This is what this 1001 album experience is all about, what a gem!
Never listened to these guys before, and to my surprise I'm impressed. I had a brief flirtation with heavy rock back in the 80s, but I like this more. Will continue to explore this unexpectedly rich vein of entertainment.
Legendary.
Yeah I was pretty bummed when this came up. Terrible.
This is a gem! I'm slightly embarrassed to have never even heard of the band or album before, but grateful for the tip, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Pure class.
Not the first time I've listened to this album. I didn't disenjoy it, but I don't really get it. It sounds alright. Flamenco Sketches was the best bit. On the whole though, it sounds like elevator music to me, inoffensive, mild, not unpleasant... but it doesn't move me. Again I wonder if I'm perhaps just not smart enough for jazz?
Not my first experience of this album, it's a classic and deservedly so. I like it very much.
I'd never even heard of this guy before this morning! Lol. I understand he's big in the States... I love the album. Added to my portable music player before I'd even finished listening to it, and will definitely check out more of his stuff.
Not really a fan of the Beach Boys, but I recognise there's genius in this album.
Familiar with the two singles and didn't really expect to enjoy this album as much as I did.
I did not enjoy listening to this album, although I might have had it not been for Stewart's voice, which grates on me.
This was a surprise, I didn't expect to find much I liked here but actually I enjoyed it quite a lot.
Wow this is a loooong album. I didn't hate it, but it's not really ticking my boxes. I like my prog a bit more melodic and less droney.
Well, it's better than Rod Stewart, I'll give it that much.
Excellent, that's the good stuff.
I was pleasantly surprised. Big fan of Dylan's earlier stuff, I didn't have very high expectations, but actually, this is a really solid album. I'm now a big fan of his more recent stuff too.
This is a stone cold classic, fully worth 5/5. Nevertheless, I'm giving it 4.
This is a gem! I'm slightly embarrassed to have never even heard of the band or album before, but grateful for the tip, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Pure class.
It's alright, bit overrated.
I quite like some of Neil Young's stuff. This one was new to me and it was ok.
Paul Weller at his creative best. Personally I prefer his Jam days, but this is still an excellent album.
Not her best album, or even her second best imo, but still bloody good.
Didn't expect too much from this, but it's actually [retty good
I prefer 'Can't Buy a Thrill', but this is still a very good album, doesn't sound dated at all.
Dreadful
This was better than I expected, but then I didn't expect much.
I did not enjoy this aural experience.
I prefer both of his other albums, but I still like this one very much.
Excellent album.
I used to love this album, but it sounds a bit tired and dated now.
Terrible noise, I'm surprised anybody likes them.
A bit third-reichy, not to my taste at all but still head and shoulders above yesterdays terrible album (Manic Street Preachers) and so by comparison to that I've given it three stars.
Never listened to these guys before, and to my surprise I'm impressed. I had a brief flirtation with heavy rock back in the 80s, but I like this more. Will continue to explore this unexpectedly rich vein of entertainment.
Pretty uninteresting
Firm favourite.
I couldn't get all the way through this. Not to my taste at all and I struggled to find anything to recommend it.
No thank you. I've heard as much of this band as I ever care to.
Fabulous, always happy to listen to these guys
I can see how this might appeal to some, but it's not really doing it for me.
I didn't enjoy it then and I didn't think I'd enjoy it now. But actually it's not terrible.
Oh come on. There are a lot more than 1001 albums that are more worth listening to than this. Not good.
Are you kidding me? How is this an album I "must" listen to before I die? Dreadful. I'm going to listen Yugoslavian jazz-funk instead.
decent
This one's pretty good, bit surprised not to have encountered it before tbh.
Hmm, I daresay it was better at the time.
It's alright I suppose.
Hmm this could be a 5
Yeah, excellent
Oh good grief no, I'd give this a zero but the thing won't let me.
Never heard of her before this, rather enjoyed it.
Can't get much better than this
Entirely forgettable, and best forgotten.
She was better with the Velvet Underground. Interesting voice but a bit of a dull album.
I used to quite like this album, but it hasn't aged well.
Yeah pretty good
Meh
I found this quite boring.
Yeah pretty good, nothing earth-shaking
New one on me, I quite enjoyed it but not to the degree that I'd ever listen to it again.
Excellent, and brand new to me as well. This is what this 1001 album experience is all about, what a gem!
Awesome album
Who doesn't love Pixies?
Meh
Prog at it's best
Overrated.
Yeah I was pretty bummed when this came up. Terrible.
Another one I'd never heard of before. It's is a bit up and down, got some very good tracks on it, but on the whole probably best left in the 60s.
This is pretty good. I nearly gave it a fourth star. There should be ten stars, this is clearly a 3.5 star album.
Man this complicated jazz thing again. I really want to like it, but half the time I think it's emperor's new clothes and they're having a laugh at everyone who says they like it. I'll keep trying though. I hate being out of the loop.
I liked it at the time, but now it sounds pretty dated and somewhat boring.
Not his best, but essential anyway.
How lovely, this is a long standing favourite.
Man I played this to the death way back when. Great album.
Overrated.
Awesome and beautiful.
Loved it at the time, not sure it stands up these days.
To my surprise I rather enjoyed this. I've listened to it a few times and not been particularly impressed, but this time it kind of worked for me. I might even like it.
Unique and brilliantly inventive, MIA is a treasure.
It's alright, but extremely overrated.
Seriously? How did this make the list?
Thanks, I hate it. Zero stars should be an option.
This is awful, I didn't listen to much
Well it's not terrible
Good background music, ideal to fall asleep with.
Terrible.
I want to like it, but it's a bit too energetic for my brain.
Nah.
It's alright, but not really my cup of tea.
Well that's more like it, this is a beautiful album. All of Fiona Apple's stuff is great.
This has gone a long way towards rekindling my long lost love of heavier rock. I like this a lot.
Boring, derivative, annoying voice.
This was a new one on me. Jazz is still mysterious to me, but I did quite enjoy this.
This is a bit too try-hard for my taste. Almost like a parody of heavy rock.
There are some truly memorable parts to this album, and some entirely forgettable parts. Great and rubbish in equal measure.
Never heard this before, I like it.
I'm getting very strong "surely-there-are-1001-better-albums-than-this" vibes from this one.
It's alright, bit overrated.
What a great band. This is not even their best album.
Ethereal beauty for the ears.
Terrible.
Better than I expected.
Hmmm nah. I mean, there's something there sure but I'd need to listen to it a few times and I don't feel like it.
This is pretty good. Surprised i've not listened to it before, I suppose back in then it wasn't so easy to listen to all of the music as it is today.
Ok, when I saw this come up I thought "ugh more country", but I played it anyway and I'm very glad I did. This is a decent album.
I enjoyed this years ago. Today it sounds a bit old and weak. Not unlike me.
I used to like this, now it just sounds dated.
Stunning album.
Very pleasant
Nope
A favourite once upon a time. It hasn't aged so well, but then who has?
I wasn't goint to listen to this one. I was a big fan for a while back in the 80s, but I grew to hate them with a passion and haven't heard any for aaaages. But I put it on anyway. I guess any album that gets overplayed as much as this has to be considered something special.
I did not enjoy this at all.
I do not like the Ramones.
Not for me.
Thanks, I hate it.
This was good.
This one takes me back.
I think this is the fourth or even fifth listen through of this one, and suddenly I like it, I like it a lot.
This was a surprise, I thought I hated these guys but it turns out I was wrong.
This was alright. I think I could get to like it if I played it a few times.
This was a revelation. I'm familiar with Pet Sounds, and to be honest, not that mad for it. This one's a far more interesting piece of work. Apart from the Student Protest song, which is terrible.
Well, it's not terrible or offensive, but it's pretty bland. I'm quite prepared to believe it's his best work.
Never listened to The Fall before. I probably never will again.
I'd like this album, but for the Marley cover.
Never listened to this one before, I should listen to more of his stuff, it's always good.
Great, but surprisingly dated already.
I didn't expect to enjoy this one, but actually it's pretty great. Sounds like the 60s.
This I did not like
Great!
It's alright
I really want to like this, but I don't.
Beautiful album, easily the best of Prefab Sprout
Better than I expected
I just don't like his voice
Brilliant, love it to bits.
This is not something I'd generally play, but it's a great piece of work
I don't really like this at all, but there was a time when i did.
I never really 'got' PJ previously, but having listened through this one I'm going to put a bit of effort into doing so. I think this may be a great album.
Interesting! Never heard of before, I think i would have loved this a decade or two ago
Well, I'll say this much; my mother loves him. Personally I can't bear him.
Beautiful, as always, this never gets old
Their best work imo
Very underrated band and album. Excellent.
Didn't expect much, actually it's bloody brilliant.
I loved these a long time ago, now, they sound like a long time ago.
Getting a bit tired of these old punk 'golds' tbqh. I know there's a legacy thing, but they're all sounding quite stale these days.
I thought I'd love this one, but actually, what I'm thinking is that it's self-indulgent and a bit boring.
Hmm. Not my thing, but I don't hate it.
I didn't want to like this, I wanted to be able to say it's terrible. Can't help but enjoy it though, even the atrociously worded 'Dum dum Diddle'. Silly, lovely Swedes.
Never liked 'em. Still don't.
Awesome album, nice to be reminded of this one.
It's a hard choice, but I've always picked this as the best Led Zep album. Pretty much perfect.
For some reason I've never listened to Pavement before, although obviously I was aware of them. Strange really, as they're certainly the sort of band I like. Great album, wonder why it took so long to get around to hearing it...
New one on me, pretty good
Honestly, I usually don't find much of value in the sixties tips I've had from this project, but I'm enjoying this one.
Yes alright, this is a good album.
Legendary.
Oh my gosh I did not like this one bit.
Yes that's great, excellent album, but it still doesn't make up for making me listen to that execrable garbage by 'Missy Elliot' yesterday.
Great, one of the best rock albums ever made.
I loved this when it came out, now though, it sounds a bit bland.
I didn't enjoy this. Dated and messy.
Overplayed but still great
Catchy, but I find it rather annoying. Sounds like advert music.
Yeah ok Rob, I agree, Tricky are alright.
No.
Yeah great brilliant album, overplayed to death and beyond but I guess I shouldn't hold that against 'em.
Always a pleasure
I would like it if it wasn't for all the covers. Like sitars, hate covers.
Now that's an awesome album.
I liked this much better than 'Under Construction'. I don't think it's right that Missy Elliot has two albums in the 1001 albums you 'must hear' before you die though.
I like this. One of the eyebrow-raising things I've found with this exercise is that I like heavier rock more than I thought I did.
Who composed this list anyway? I mean, I don't hate this album, but I could happily live my life without listening to it.
This didn't talk to me.
It's not terrible.
Bit too twangy/country for my tastes, but some catchy tunes there.
Ugh.
Yeah that's alright
Exceptional
Goddamn Prince was good. This is a superb album, obviously.
Did not expect to enjoy this one, was again surprised. Don't think they'll be a regular play for me, but I have new respect for Venom.
Beautiful album
Can't imagine why I've never listened to this before, I guess I got into the band on their second release and just never got round to chasing this up. Great album.
I guess I missed these guys when they were current, but it's decent.
Not rubbish, but not for me.
At the time I'd have given it four stars. Couldn't say why now though!
Such a good album. I've played it three times today, including the demos.
I found this boring.
This is a six stars album.
I always want to like Nick Cave, but usually I can't find much to like. This one is alright though.
Still sounds great.
Nah too shouty
Awful
I don't like 'em much
It's one of their best, if you like that sort of thing.
Respect but not enjoy.
Bored
I enjoyed this more than I wanted to and more than I expected.
Actually not as good as I remembered. Huh.
Just about perfect.
The last time I listened to these guys I found nothing to interest me. That was in 1985. This time they sound great!
I just don't like 'em.
I like Eels, but I'm still not convinced about the many worlds paradigm.
Well that's interesting. Previously I've never enjoyed Patti Smith's work, but this time round I like it enough to add to my library. I might even like this a lot now.
Yeah I could get into this. Three and a half really.
This is a boring album.
Not as good as i'd like it to be
Not for me. That 80s synth pop still grates.
Not a band I'd ever really listened to before, but yeah, this sounds good on first listen. I am inclined to add it to my playlist and investigate more of their stuff.
I do like it, but it's all a bit samey.
Expected to hate it, actually it's not bad at all.
I'm not a fan of Morrisey or the Smiths, but if I was I probably would enjoy this as it sounds very much like everything else he and they have done.
I don't know how these guys dropped out of my library, they're great. Love this album.
Classic
This was ok.
Yeah, belter.
It's alright, doesn't seem like anything particularly special to me though.
It's not terrible.
Never really liked these guys, and they still don't do much for me.
An excellent album
I can get how other people could like this, but I really didn't.
I moderately enjoyed this. Bit samey.
This is great, I'd only ever heard his hits before this.
This is a fantastic album. I didn't really take to it at first, it being such a departure from the previous output, but it doesn't take many playthroughs before it's beauty begins to become apparent. A long-standing favourite.
A solid gold epic of an album
I enjoyed this more than I expected to.
Of it's time. Doesn't do much for me.
