Some very fun tracks like Maggie’s Farm and Bob Dylan’s 115th Dream and the classic Mr. Tambourine Man
Very solid album through and through but not a ton I would personally listen to over and over on my own playlist. Potentially closer to a 3.5 but earned a 4 for me on the strength of the whole album.
A really solid and beautiful album overall but no standouts to me
Rock Lobster is always a jam, but most of the album is a bit difficult to listen to just because of how odd it is. Granted, I can definitely see how this was a very influential album.
One of the most depressing and miserable things I’ve ever listened to. Some of the songs sounded like animals were being strangled.
A really solid album overall that feels weirdly nostalgic. A few favorites were Sprawl II, City with No Children, and Half Light II. Would listen again.
Really cool hip hop album. Favorites were Freedom, What’s Golden, and High Fidelity.
Good album that gets better the more you listen to it. I don’t personally listen to a ton of reggae but I definitely vibed with the whole album as it grooved along. Favorite is probably High Tide Low Tide.
Very political and cool album but no individual song standouts for me
Awesome concept album that was super fun to listen to all the way through. Has classics like Another Brick in the Wall and Comfortably Numb. A real experience to hear every song back-to-back.
Who’s that Lady is a classic and the rest of the album was pleasant to listen to. Really a 3.5 in my book but I enjoyed it overall so a 4.
Once I got through the first couple songs, I immediately thought these guys sounded similar enough to the Clash to have influenced them. Turns out this band was quite influential, but nothing really stood out to me for a relisten moving forward.
Very eastern-feeling folksy album. Some songs I didn’t like and some I did.
Good lord in heaven. This was… something. It reminded me of that scene in friends where Ross plays his “soundscapes” on the keyboard. Some of this was almost passable to listen to but a good portion was absolutely atrocious with heavy doses of sounds that could only be the band’s interpretation of what a UFO sounds like.
A Ramones feeling album that I didn’t mind. Nothing stands out except maybe Ether.
Very fun pop album with some classics (We Got The Beat). Would listen again.
Sounded like impressive jazz but definitely background music for me
An absolute favorite that grooves the entire album. It’s funky and soulful and has inspired so much of the music that I love listening to today. Had multiple songs I liked for future listening.
Multiple classic rock songs with Runnin with the Devil and Ain’t Talking Bout Love, an impressive display of guitar on Eruption, and a nice change of pace with the potential favorite of the album in Little Dreamer. It was packed with energy and fun to listen to.
Somewhere between a 3 and a 4 for me. Somewhat enjoyable background music but definitely background music. Very easy listening jazz.
Another great one from Pink Floyd filled with beautiful guitar and lots of meaning. I’ve loved the song Wish You Were Here for a while now and enjoyed getting to hear the whole album.
Well-crafted lyrics and solid rap but not my cup of tea
Pretty standard generic indie pop. Don’t really see what’s so special about this that it needed to be on this list.
Solid enjoyable album with songs filled with feeling.
Great album with multiple classics
Classic 80’s rock music, which really isn’t my cup of tea. It’s fine to have on though. Favorite song was Pour Some Sugar On Me.
Soft and easy listening. There wasn’t a song I absolutely LOVED so I’m going with a 3.5, rounding down to 3.
Just because this has Girls Just Want to Have Fun and Time After Time, I have this a 4. Money Changes Everywthing would probably be the other good song, but the rest of the album was strange and I didn’t like it too much.
A very funky and enjoyable album
It was a very fun listen all the way through. Different songs felt like the Beatles and others felt like Bob Dylan and others felt like something completely different. Would listen to the album again.
This album had three really famous songs from Run DMC and was a decent listen all the way through. It’ll get a 4 based on the merit of those songs and the overall listenability of the album, but not a 5 since I didn’t LOVE anything.
Felt very modern-day Bob Dylan vibes. Would listen again.
Smooth and easy listening but a bit repetitive
An iconic rap album. Already had CREAM on my playlists.
Very fun listen all the way through. Really enjoyed No Dancing and Alison.
Southern rock/country-feeling album. Cool historical subject matter for a good part of the album. Three Great Alabama Icons was very interesting to listen to. The music itself just wasn’t that great, making this one not a huge desire to listen to over and over.
Just flat out odd and depressing.
I feel bad for not liking this but it’s just so depressing and dark
Relaxing and pleasant listen with the classic Mrs. Robinson on there.
Very unique and Cajun feeling album. Favorite song was probably Jump Sturdy.
A truly eclectic album with so many different instruments and styles. A number of classics with Bohemian Rhapsody (potentially the greatest song of all time) along with You’re My Best Friend and Love of My Life. A very solid 5.
Weird, dark, and dude doesn’t really have a great voice. It was interesting at points but overall don’t really want to go out of my way to listen to this again.
Very moody music. Sounds like it influenced a lot of chill/trip hop today. My favorite song (and the only one I think I’d heard before) is Glory Box.
An album with so many certifiable bangers. It’s so strong all the way through I just had to give it a 5
It was alright. I expected more.
Bob Dylan showcases how good of a storyteller he is once again in this album, even if he gets a tad too preachy at times.
Couple of classic pop punk songs but the rest of the album sounds pretty similar to each other
Very interesting 70’s album. I’ll probably say 3 rather than 4 just because a lot of the music is a bit lengthy for me to listen to again and didn’t love love it. Fun to listen to once though.
This was a fantastic folksy, country and Americana-feeling album that is a good listen all the way through. Couldn’t get California Stars out of my head for multiple days.
It was meh. Didn’t really love anything. Even What’s Love Got to Do With It wasn’t that amazing.
Unnecessarily weird album
Everything else other than alright was fine
A nice, enjoyable, and relaxing album all the way through. Would definitely throw on again, even though it doesn’t necessarily have any of the hits that I know.
Pretty solid rap album but I just won’t go out of my way to listen to most of this
The two songs with ukulele were the only almost half-decent songs. The rest was just atrocious.
Even though the album suffers overall from multiple songs that sound like each other (not a massive surprise with this band), this album has two loved hits in Come Out and Play and Self Esteem. That brought my total from 3 to 4.
Weird trip hop that’s the definition of background
I enjoyed several songs on this album and it was super pleasant to listen to! I really liked Crazy Love, Caravan, and It Stoned Me.
The two best songs were Band On the Run and Jet, but it takes almost the whole song to get to the actually enjoyable part of Band on the Run. The album was fine overall
Doo Wop and Ex-Factor are total bops. Listenable all the way through the album with the fun classroom recordings in the background throughout.
Wow I did not enjoy this. Really moany, discordant alt music. Going with a 2 just because I’ve heard worse.
Very unique and good indie album with songs I already enjoy. White Winter Hymnal and Ragged Wood are the faves. Strength of the album with some favorites pushes it from a 4.5 to a 5.
The Weight is far and away the best song on the album (conveniently it’s also this band’s most popular song) the rest of the album was kind of meh though so I’m giving it a 3 since I can’t give a 3.5.
It was alright I guess. The voice can be a bit much at times. Biggest disappointment is Come On Eileen isn’t on this album.
Bob Dylan continues to be a phenomenal storyteller throughout the album. He has some absolute hits in Desolation Row and Like a Rolling Stone.
Solid disco background music. Favorite song was Good Times.
Chill and classic indie album with several good songs (Intro, Islands, etc.). 4.5 that’s up to a 5 just because of how many songs I have on my playlist already!
This is probably one of the weaker Zeppelin albums but it still has Immigrant Song which is a classic.
Really vacuous British voice + cheesy 80’s synth throughout made for a mediocre album at best. Don’t You Love Me is the classic on here and clearly the best song.
Favorite song was probably Champagne Problems. The album starts really strong, gets a little forgettable in the middle , but ends with a bang with Bon Iver.
The two best songs are the ones I already knew going in: Heavy Metal Drummer and Jesus Etc. The rest of the album is alright and generally easy to listen to.
The album is filled with solid 50’s rock and crooner-style music. Very easy to listen to. My favorite was Blue Suede Shoes.
Very enjoyable soft rock. Favorites were When the Stars Go Blue and Firecracker
Solid rock album. Nothing too standout.
Really odd and dark storytelling that was quite colorful. I wouldn’t really listen to this for the music itself. It was really just more of a narrative with a score.
Well this was the epitome of an album I would never like. Horrible throat singing, mashed up noise, and over the top lyrics. Wasn’t a death metal guy before and can confirm I’m still not.
A very enjoyable 60’s rock album. Best song was Kicks.
The lyrics were pretty odd and the music itself was meh.
Solid rap album. Good background music
More death metal. Didn’t hate quite as much as Slayer.
One of the greatest rock albums of the 20th century. So strong from beginning to end with multiple modern classics. So hard to pick between Last Nite and Someday for favorite tune, but I’ll give the edge to Someday.
The precursor to modern day indie music in the 80’s. An enjoyable and quick album to listen through. Favorite song I think was I Want the One I Can’t Have.
Good album with some all-time classics by Bob Marley towards the end (Three Little, Birds, Jammin), but the start of the album was just okay. Would give a 4.5 if possible but going with a 4.
Favorite song is Green Onions, without question. Absolute classic from the Sandlot. Unfortunately, the rest of the album is pretty much just blues covers and background music.
A nice old-timey country album. Still probably background music for me, but I’d give it a 3.5 if I could.
Eclectic album. Favorite was Changes.
A dark album that had songs that were angry or weird.
Real folksy and slow. Nice to listen to
Solid album with strong start. Favorite songs were Break on Through and Soul Kitchen.
One of the greatest rock albums of all time. Favorite songs are Black Dog and Stairway if I HAD to narrow it to two.
Nice background music. Would give a 3.5
Like a more aggressive Offspring. It was alright but I wouldn’t go out of my to listen to it.
Beautiful music but too sad for my personal taste
Nice jazz that I’d throw on in the background again.
Decent pink influencing music
Tom Waits’ voice sounds like if the insect guy in the first Men in Black movie was singing. The actual music was nice.
Our House is an absolute classic, and this was a good album overall. My next favorite was probably Almost Cut My Hair, with its wailing guitar solos.
A bit depressing but it’s the Smiths so what are ya gonna do? The music was still good so a 3. Favorite song was probably I Won’t Share You.
Really good album overall with blues/folksy feelings throughout. Sympathy for the Devil is the easy choice for best song.
Good old-fashioned blues album. Would listen in the background again.
Cheesy and funny 90’s rap. Fine to listen to
An up and down album with some really good songs on it like Debaser. My favorite was Here Comes Your Man.
Unsettling indie album. I could tell it was inventive, but I really didn’t like it.
Very pleasant and soothing. Would listen again. Favorite was probably Oh What a World.
So many hits on this album. An all time great.
I wanted to like this album a lot more but there’s definitely some weird filler throughout. Around the World is such a jam though.
You Can Call Me Al is the best song and a classic. Overall a decent album to throw on in the background
Talk singy and lacking an enjoyable melody. It’s also really long.
Some classic guitar riffs that kick butt. Favorite song is Paranoid.
I got to learn where the Black Keys heard some of their initial cover songs from. The music was interesting with lots of range and good to have in the background.
Very moody, Arcade Fire feeling album. I liked listening to the whole thing.
Best song was Something 4 the Weekend. Album was a bit chaotic sounding at times but overall could listen to fine.
Favorites were Mr. Tambourine Man and I’ll Feel a Whole Lot Better. Very pleasant album to listen to that felt very 50’s/60’s
Between a 3 and 4 for me. It was fine overall.
Favorites were Cemetry Gates and There is a Light That Never Goes Out. Well crafted but depressing in Smiths fashion.
There’s a reason The Scientist is so popular
Feels like an adult alternative album. Very easy listening.
Tom Sawyer is still my favorite song by them but I was surprised how much I recognized of this album. Rush is a bit weird but not too weird, which I like.
Very great to listen to all the way through. Definitely some indie vibes before indie music was really a thing. Pale Blue Eyes was the best song.
I hated this a lot. Made me feel anxious. Just bad.
This remains an extremely cool album to listen to all the way through, even with some really weird songs throughout. Since I Left You is still one of my favorite songs.
Easy to listen to and quite folksy. I actually liked the title track the least. Favorite was Homeward Bound.
Pretty good for metal. Master of Puppets was probably the favorite
Every song makes you want to dance in place. Gotta love the classic WE ARE FAMILY
Good singer songwriter stuff that sounded interesting. Would listen again.
So many good songs and riffs. I think my favorite is Wind Cries Mary, but so many good so songs…
This is actually not the first time I’ve heard Penguin Cafe Orchestra, as I already have a song by them in my liked songs. My favorite off this album was The Sound of Someone You Love Who’s Going Away And It Doesn’t Matter, but some of the album was a bit too weird.
This album is fricken awesome
Some disco-y Motown that’s fine to have on in the background
This album almost feels like the inspiration for most midwest emo music today. Best song is definitely Blister in the Sun.
Nice oldie rock and roll. Tutti Frutti is a jam. 3.5/5
Once in a lifetime is by far the best song. The rest of the album is a bit weird but fine to listen to I guess
Background acoustic guitar music
Didn’t really enjoy this type of electronic, moody music
Filled with classic soul songs and a phenomenal voice
Bowie is greatness but I didn’t like a lot of the discordant out there parts of the album
Surprisingly enjoyable to listen to. Liked Apache the most. Didn’t think I’d like the bongos so much!
Really odd album that felt a bit too artistic for the sake of being artistic.
A lot of weird sounds used. The best songs were Movin On Up and Loaded
Enjoyed the beginning of the album the most. I like the peak of the cure a lot but some of their stuff just gets too weird and dark
Did not appreciate the raw vocals very much.
Very enjoyable music that felt like it had heart
Very soft rock. It’s fine to have on.
Sweet Emotion still rocks. Album is great in general. A 4.5 if I could give it.
Folksy super unknown indie predecessor from across the pond. Some stuff was a tad too experimental for me but I thought it was interesting to listen to. Chivalry was the best song. 3.5.
Solid and enjoyable throughout. Upbeat music from Elvis with the classic Such a Night.
A 3.5 for me. Definitely a very interesting listen with some songs I definitely know. I think Honey, Find My Baby, and Natural Blues were my favorites.
Let’s Go Crazy and Purple Rain are obviously great but the rest of the album is a little too packed with cheesy 80’s-feeling music. 3.5.
Just a good classic rock album the whole way
Maps is the best song and just so different from the rest of the album.
Very good rock album. Favorite song is still You Shook Me All Night Long. Didn’t realize how many hits were on this one album!
Too avant-garde for my tastes
The only reading this album barely makes a 3 is Where Is My Mind? I did not like the rest of the discordant, loud music.
Paper Planes is the only redeeming song on this album. The rest is very weird and loud to the point where it feels more like an art statement than something that’s actually listenable.
I really liked this album. Oasis can rock pretty hard. Fav song was Live Forever.
Very loud and raw with some songs that were fine but some that were just absolute noise. 2.5.
Sounded like standard Latin jazz I’d hear in the background somewhere
3.5. It’s good classic rock for the background.
Great album. Yellow is awesome. Very chill throughout.
Classic anthemic and iconic rock music. Beautiful Day and Walk On are the best songs. 4.5.
Phenomenal rap album front to back. Gimme the Loot, Juicy, Big Poppa are all classics.
I like The Band and this was enjoyable to listen to. 3.5.
One of my more interesting 5s. I grew up hearing Norah Jones played throughout my house and she definitely holds up. Come Away With Me and Don’t Know Why are just gorgeous songs. Great album throughout.
I’d say a 3.5 over a 3 just because it’s a bit of a good twist on British punk with the weird keyboards.
One of the strongest 5/5s I can possible give. This album has potentially one of the greatest stretches of songs in history, with Dreams going into Never Going Back Again into Don’t Stop into Go Your Own Way. One of the best albums of all time for sure.
Ella is the epitome of classy music. This album reminded me of the movies I’d watch with my dad on TCM as a kid.
There was a nostalgia with every song, as if I had heard almost all of them at some point a while ago. I really liked listening to this and feel like you could just let the album roll in the background all the way through to set the vibe.
3.75. I learned my favorite song from the Axis of Awesome actually
Potentially my favorite Led Zeppelin album. So many great riffs on the album. My favorite song is still Ramble On.
Not as good as his album containing Hight Tide Low Tide and Stir it Up, but nice to have on in the background
Very genre bending and interesting enough to listen to where I would again
As are all Led Zeppelin albums, this was a good one. Communication Breakdown is my favorite on this one. It’s just tough to compete with II and IV.
Fairly polished grunge music. 3.5.
Pretty odd and very cockney
Some solid garage rock. Hate to Say I Told You So is a hit. Barely makes a 4 for me.
Very eclectic. Would listen again. Rounding my 3.5 up to a 4 since the whole album was an experience.
Nice little folksy/country album
One and Ultraviolet Light are my favorites. U2 did a good job.
Like a Prayer was really the only song I was a big fan of. 2.5.
Pretty darn sad album. I can understand the guy’s talent with both musicality and lyric-writing, but nothing is quite catchy or ear wormy enough for me to want to listen to something this depressing. I guess my favorite would be Somebody that I Used To Know since it’s a bit like Simon and Garfunkel.
Smooth Operator is a classic and I loved Cherry Pie. Sade is always great for some smooth R&B background music and is really easy to listen to.
Album is a bit of a beating to listen to with how ballad-y the whole thing is, but K.D. Lang does have a great voice. There’s some interesting inclusions of different genres in her music but a lot of the songs kind of just ran together. If I had to pick a favorite track, I’d go with Outside Myself.
Great album with two absolute classics on there with Sunshine of Your Love and Tales of Brave Ulysses. Very easy to listen to with some interesting riffs.
Decent background rock music that definitely sounds of the time period, but nothing really stood out too much. Route 66 was maybe the favorite?
Love the energy and raw feeling of RATM, even if the music isn’t my particularly cup of tea. I’d give the album a 3.5 and Bombtrack is probably the favorite.
What a phenomenal album throughout. Enjoyed some of my existing favorites from Stevie with Sir Duke and Isn’t She Lovely, but also got to hear some other great songs in Knocks Me Off My Feet and Pastime Paradise. It’s such a joyful listen and I can see why Apple and other sites agree it’s a top 50 album of all time.
Impressive live performances but 2 hours is just too long (makes sense since it was an actual show). Favorite is highway star. 3.5.
In lieu of a standard critical review, I’d thought I’d just share some random thoughts that occurred to me while listening to this so-called “album”.
- I wish I had the self confidence that these people had to record this, call it music, put their names on it and release it to the public.
- I have to assume this is what they played in Guantanamo Bay to force prisoners to confess to crimes.
- I also have to assume this group of people got in a room and asked themselves how they could make an album without using a single musical instrument.
- My ears hurt. No really, they hurt.
Favorite song: AB/7something was the closest thing to a melody found in the entire album
