Fragile by Yes

Had this one on regular repeat in my teen years. Spent a huge amount of time learning to play Mood for a Day (badly) on guitar. Still a personal favorite album decades later.

Deja Vu by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young
Feb 18 2022

I know and love this album well, but I'm always struck by the vocal harmonies of CSN/CSNY, and this album is a great example.

School's Out by Alice Cooper
Feb 19 2022

Better than I was expecting. The only song I was familiar with was the title track, which got radio play in the 70s. Blue Turk was a nice surprise.

Since I Left You by The Avalanches
Feb 21 2022

This is pretty tedious and I'm just wanting it to be done. At least ETOH was basically tolerable.

Horses by Patti Smith
Feb 24 2022

My go-to Patti Smith albums for enjoyable listening are Wave and Gone Again; Horses was new to me and I found it a harder listen. It's just so raw, so visceral. Which is true of the albums I know as well, and maybe it's just a result of being better acquainted with them idk, but Horses was a less melodic listen somehow. Ultimately, like others have said Patti is more edgy poet than musician, especially here, and some level of discomfort is perhaps the point. The standout tracks for me were Free Money and Birdland. I'll definitely listen to this one again.

Bug by Dinosaur Jr.
Feb 27 2022
Arc Of A Diver by Steve Winwood
Feb 28 2022

Hey, late 70s/early 80s was my era, so I don't hate the 80s sound like so many of the reviewers here. Still, this probably doesn't quite manage a 3.5 for me, despite the comforting familiarity of While You See a Chance, Arc of a Diver and Night Train.

Except for Everyday People I thought this was mostly forgettable, having aged poorly. 2.5

Ghosteen by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds

Songs Of Love And Hate by Leonard Cohen
Mar 10 2022

I like to think that so many of his songs have been covered by other artists because they said to themselves, "I think I can sing this song better than that."

On The Beach by Neil Young
Mar 12 2022

I've only heard this one once or twice before, and didn't know any of the tracks well enough to sing along, but it's solid. 4.5, rounded up

Psychocandy by The Jesus And Mary Chain
Mar 13 2022

Why is adding white noise to music desirable? Mostly simple, uninteresting tunes that just faded into the background for me.

Picture Book by Simply Red
Mar 17 2022

The Talking Heads cover (Heaven) just doesn't approach David Byrne's tongue-in-cheek delivery, and frankly doesn't work for me, but overall it's a nice album. Anyone not moved by Holding Back the Years simply has no soul, in my opinion.

Best song: "Hate to Say I Told You So" but it still doesn't bump this album up to a 3 for me.

What was interesting as counter to Paul Simon just fades to humdrum on its own.
