First album on this list! Enjoyed hearing the guitars at different spots in the soundstage and being able to tell exactly where and how they interlocked. Sister Morphine is the standout for me.
Songwriting was interesting but not quite the range I was looking for.
not my usual cup of tea but they really said “land back” and i respect that
forever a slut for paul simon
sludgy guitar rock was nice but nothing special— the more experimental electronic bits take it from a 3 to a 4 for me
initially i was like “men yelling over weird guitars. 2” but then i found out they were one of the first to do it in this way?
quality power ballad guitar stuff here
HSB and the guitars in general are undeniable but i think maybe i just don’t like grunge that much???
standout: Cheapskate
otherwise not super exciting?
spark that bled was cool. overall not super into this one though
so much better than it has any business being
xylophone goes CRAZY here!!!!
not my thing but i respect the artistry
could not deal with the harmonica on this
points for ambition. probably won’t listen again for awhile though
I continue to be a slut for a tight harmony
I liked this way more than I thought I would—crazy good guitar work especially. I don’t know how widely sampled this was, but a few parts called to mind some more recent artists.
better than i remembered it. definitely gonna come back to this again and again
PG was apparently worried the long instrumentals would get boring, I think the long wacky lyrics are more of a concern. but everything else here is undeniable genius
once again good but not my thing
like springsteen with better guitar and worse writing
no live recorded audience has ever been hornier
i can see why ppl like this but nothing really stuck out here
every song starts out super strong but goes on just a bit too long. edit!
one of those albums that feels kind of meh but only because everyone else is standing on his shoulders
surprised at how much i enjoyed this— at least a dozen bands come to mind that borrowed from this one specifically too.
a few duds, but a few standouts too ("tusk", "storms", "beautiful child", "sisters of the moon"). appreciate that they really wanted to not make rumours all over again, though i think this is just a bit less successful.
gets better toward the middle but overall not that exciting
no standout moments but the hype is well deserved
oh wow a lot of people pulled from this.
so many bangers in so many different directions!
i remember being OBSESSED with this as a kid, and now, despite appreciating the music more, i don’t like it quite as much? still good though
as a pseudo-angeleno I am contractually obligated to give 5 stars
but actually this is too much fun
decent!
I liked “Metal Baby” for its goth gf yearning
This had me tapping out polyrhythms at my desk for a few hours after I finished listening.
Charmingly weird with unsurprisingly great guitar
just keeps getting better
never been my thing, but their style is undeniable. last song is a real heartstring-ripper.
swings from heartrending meditations on old age to whatever the hell “at the zoo” is. I love my kings from queens
a classic, and the sound is undeniable. not sure I feel the lyrics as hard as critics seem to, but whatever. funk forever
when he’s not too far up his own ass, he’s a genius
astrud I love you always but this is a snoozefest
these guys just never really do it for me
gorgeous gorgeous girls love gorgeous gorgeous guitar
surprised at how into this I was. first half better than second imo
riders on the storm is a perfect song, what a choice to end the album with it
2nd fav beatles album I think. the songs just go places
sure, why not weep on my walk to work
a folk album with several actual folk songs! british excellence
I think I just can’t do morrissey sorry
the guitar is impressive but eventually starts to feel gratuitous. edit! I will say for a live album the production is REALLY good.
Fun, but nothing showstopping.
