Very skilled, not my style of content, a little bored by all the killing threats
A few really good songs - still don't love them but enjoy the weird vibes and trippy music
Lots of great song - band had a big effect and it still has lots of powerful and funny songs
I didn't quite get it but I could with more listens i think
This is not for me. All the same tunes for the most part and endless verses. Positives: I did Suzzane and Marianne. The production value is really good.
So chill and cool and atmospheric and peaceful. Even cooler when you look up the translations and meanings of the songs.
Wow, so awesome. The soundscape is so complex, the words wonderful, the tunes catchy, and they become more so the more you listen. A masterpiece!
Meh, kinda boring. Grooving was OK. Not my style. PS - Search for "The Rascals" on Spotify not "The Young Rascals" to see the full discography.
Deep lyrics, good music, great voice, interesting vibe.
It's got some great grooves and music. Really funky. Don't enjoy love songs enough to give it 5 stars but it's a 5 star production.
Mercifully short generic dull "rock" that picks a line and repeated it 1000x. I get it, you are "ready for love." Blah.
Liked: Everyday is Like Sunday, Late Night Maudlin street, Suedehead, and the music behind the singing is really great. Pretty dang good overall! I hear the tides have turned against Morrisey though.
Hard driving music, Child in Time is especially good. Really enjoyed but -2 stars for the horrible keyboards/ organs.
I'd give it a 4.5 but I'll round down to a 4. Easy listening and strong lyrics and acoustics. Strong tracks throughout with my standouts being Love Goes On, Streets, and Was There Anything I Could Do with Anything being my favorite.
Funky, good lyrics, lots of varied musical styles, Shangri-La is a masterpiece.
2.5 rounding up to 3. Unique music, some good tracks like Grandpa. Def a Manchester vibe. Oakenfold did a great job producing and this is a really funky album with beats, strings, brass, rapping, singing, and all sorts of interesting sounds and layers.
Great songs and sounds. Strong start with "Legalize It." "Ketchy Shuby" bumps and "Brand New Second Hand" is a great diss track. The bits of piano really enhance the musical layering. Tosh singing on "Till Your Well Runs Dry" rather than reggae styling is really interesting. Only track I didn't really like was Igziabeher.
Good stuff. Esp like Happy When It Rains
5/5 why not. Funky! Pretty damn good. I would get down to this.
Love Waits voice... Take a bit of listening to understand him and then the words start popping out. Some of my favorites were Earth Died Screaming, All Stripped Down, Who Are You This Time, Murder in the Red Barn, and of course, I Don't Wanna Grow Up
Some amazing all time classics for the young homo sapiens on any planet
Couple of slapping songs, didn't get enough listens in to truly enjoy
Hmmm well I appreciate the subversion
Three words... Boring, formulaic, bland.
Awesome will listen to more Funkadelica. The guitar work is stellar.
Maxwell wants to have sex. Watch out crack of dawn.
Needs more bass. I want to listen to this while drinking in a cement basement club wearing all black.
Yup, this is my type of music. Especially like Disappearer. It might have the best album art so far.
H to the Izzo! Got to love all the strings. Did you know this and "Is This It" by the Strokes both released on 9/11? Both NYC releases and I learned a lot of people listen to this on the anniversary as a light spot in the dark.
Girls has weird racial stuff but other than that it's solid
Hard to rate this one... It's for sure music for an art installation at a modern art museum. A dark room, weird video, crazy dancing, or maybe a mechanical clock shortly turning as someone fixes a lift. +1 for the band name.
Huh, I don't know what to think. I feel like I should like this more than I did.
Ps. I had no idea Dave Grohl was the drummer for the last four years of Nirvana. Also, Sonic Youth was friends with them and recommended a new record label when they blew up.
Pour me a cup of mud, friend. The perfect album to listen to if the world has turned black and white and you are alone, solving the mystery of why your ex left you, why you drink alone, and what's for breakfast.
Tom's gravel and silk voice carries on - not near as serious as the previous album of his that was generated. I don't think I'll listen to this one as much but I did like "better off", "warm beer", "big joe" and a couple others.
I can't deny Stevie Wonder's talent (though this album didn't blow me away too much). He plays almost every instrument on all the songs. His obsessive and driven musical creation process results in great sounding music (but I hear he was hard to work with). He'd work for 12 hours on a song and then call back the studio musician at 2 AM to rework a song.
Boogie on Reggie Woman is lovely. As a Phish fan I was so happy to hear the original, what a fun surprise. "You Haven't Done Nothin" is also a great hit piece on Regan.
It sounds good (he's got a pretty voice) but it doesn't move me. Meh dad rock. I did like a couple of the songs but probably will never spin this again. Maybe if I was from the East Coast and had a deeper connection to 9/11.
Huh, an album that discusses the greatness of trees, water, and feet. Surfs down!
What? You really need headphones to listen this one. Boring except for all the chimes.
This one bops. Feels nice to give a good rating.
Always been a big fan of 10cc. Love the first-half of the album.
High notes on mailmen are superb. Chris Cornell has a powerful voice. Like this more than the Nirvana alblum we listened to. Black Hole Sun is such a classic. Spoonman spoons.
Amazing voice, amazing guitar player, A Case of You is so good
Great! Such a cool electric techno sample gasm.
It was good but was it 1001 good? No.
Didn't think I liked Rod Stewart, turns out I do! The bluegrass, piano, guitar, funky number shoot it up in stars, the plain rock sends it down. Hobo and Lady day are at the top for me but plenty to like on this one.
It wasn't bad, wasn't great, but I did really like Girls Love Me
I listened but not enough to get a real feel so 3 stars it is. Let's get it on.
Full of good and sad songs
Not as good as the previous one
Enjoyed this one but some of the love songs were a little much for me. Really really liked Cosmic Dancer, a brilliant song for the ages.
Huh turns out I don't like Led Zeppelin
First jazz, I enjoyed this short two track album. Would be fun to own on vinyl.
Aqualung is such a weird song. I listed to this album a lot in my teens.
JJ has such a great voice. Great guitar work, psychedelic and hard rock. Modern and timeless sound
Another great 90s album. I especially liked Susan's House but lots of good selections and it all followed a theme
No, just no. I don't care how many copies it sold. I don't care if it is Britney bitch.
Can't say I've ever listened to a full Madonna album before, this is really good! Great dance music, lush soundscapes, great voice, great beats, I'm impressed. No wonder people like her so much. It's a little too long though.
Liked the last song best, can't quite get over his voice
I love everything about this album, perfection! One of my favorite albums of all time by one of the greatest bands of all time.
I forgot I listened to this a lot in highschool!
A great, deep, meaningful album. Great cover art. Angry, sad, funny, all rolled into one.
Just not good... Made it halfway in
Some really good stuff! Enjoyed the variety of blues, bluegrass, and vocals.
Starts great but then just goes on for so long! Cut 10 songs and I would love this one.
Some great songs, worth more listen with headphones and weed.
Sex packets is not near as cool if a concept as these guys think it is. Cringe rap.
It was good but I thought I would like it more. I bet I would with more listens or if I had listened to it when it came out.
A gem! This is why we 1001
I thought I would hate it and I didn't!
Nice to have some classic country.
A bit boring and love focused. I bet he would be cool live.
Really takes me back. I think I knew every track on this one. 2009... KC radio and 96.5. Great cover art.
Good career inspiration! Want to join a punk band? Stay up all night learning to play the bass, audition, and get it! Want to start making movie soundtracks? Make a soundtrack to a non-existent movie and then turn that into a new career. Both things that Barry Adamson did. The music is also pretty good and totally different than most of this list. It's fun to read the title tracks and imagine what is happening in each of the 4 tracks. Nice find 1001.
Liked the Rabbit song and liked the whole thing enough to listen to it 3 times.
Eh.. PS I'm upgrading the previous John Grant album to 5 stars
An all time classic 100/100
Turns out I don't really enjoy the Beastie Boys
Good old country with lots of stars
Papa was a rolling stone!
Some great song... The front half of the album slays with a slight let down on the back half but still great
Listened while walking around the airport, it was nice!
What a classic - great beats and lyrics. Ninjas for life!
I like the National but the song do run together a bit.
Maybe I need headphones and more weed - the listen in the car was a little interrupted.
Weird that I didn't get into this so much
Loved this one very unusual. Clow is such a great song.
Got to be 5/5 just for how many times I replayed it. Lots of fun songs, don't the wheel one so much.
Not sure so defaulting to 3
I enjoyed these songs. Neil Young is good and I like his voice.
Great! Lots of great bangers. Trip/acide house big beats.
Great songs very unique... Ween, Phish, 80s music, experimental. Dear God, Grass, and others were great.
5 stars just for Heart of Gold and Old Man but I wish more songs on this one grabbed me
Found this underwhelming but I love that the bass is so emphasized for a change instead of being a background instrument.
A lot better than my previous album, The Red Hot Chili Peppers. These guys blow them away. Pretty listenable and not worthy of the 1 star hate though all the funny reviews did make me laugh.
Great bit of musical history - I'm not surprised the critics focused on Bjork - of course they did! Guys voice annoyed.
As I drove in my hot car from Bend to Redmond I found this more and more annoying.
I would probably like more if 1) I could understand the lyrics 2) it wasn't so repetitive and Islamic prayer influenced sounding but 3) respect to him just not my thing
Do I really need to listen to 8-minute songs about divorce? Answer: No.
