Simply RedThis was a decent album. Had some catchy songs. It works well as background music, but for a dedicated listening session it wasn’t my vibe. Very groovy though.
This was a decent album. Had some catchy songs. It works well as background music, but for a dedicated listening session it wasn’t my vibe. Very groovy though.
This was a solid album. I liked Rock Box, and it’s cool to learn how it was such an influential song for the world of rap rock. I also think Run DMC probably was a big inspiration for the Beastie Boys, very similar vibes and the accented group shouts at the end of a sentence I’ll say 3.5, but bump it up to a 4 for its cultural impact
This was a cool album conceptually. Try to capture a number of certain feelings musically. Most notable driving on the autobahn. I’m not sure how well executed it was, as I don’t think some of the songs really inspired the right feelings. Especially Autobahn. Mitternacht and Morgenspaziergang I felt did very well. Probably not an album I’ll revisit, but I really like the concept
Honestly, can’t say I really cared for it. I mean there were some good guitar parts, and some good energy, but overall, meh. Something about the vocals I didn’t care for even though I usually like lots of vocal fry. Most notable, the songs were too damn long. There were many times I liked a song, and then it kept going. And going. And going. I think if each song was like cut in half, I could maybe give it another star
Very good album. Full of heartbreak, longing, unrequited love. I’ll go to this album if I get broken up with again. Her voice is so soulful and so full of emotion, giving the song such energy despite, or perhaps because of, the very simple instrumentals
I really wanted to like this album, but honestly it was kinda just okay. The jazzy background track is nice, but honestly most of them sounded the same to me and it got very repetitive. While I found myself enjoying some songs, I kinda got bored of the album overall. The flow and the rhyme was pretty good, and for some reason reminded me of a freestyle. While after reading up on the album and its influence, I understand its contributions to hip-hop, but I don’t think it’s for me. Perhaps if I paid more attention to the lyrics I would appreciate it more, as more the songs I did read the lyrics to I enjoyed more
It was alright. I liked the style of rapping, I found some of the beats a bit repetitive
I did not care for this at first pass through. But after relistening to some of the songs, and paying more attention to some of the songs. There were some songs on the album I just found plain dumb (Little Room) but I enjoyed it overall. I think I’ll definitely go back to a number of these songs
This album was really good. I enjoyed almost every song. The sound was dark and incredibly unique, the lyrics were cool (although often crude) and there was an overarching story across the album. My one main critique is I wish I could hear the lyrics better. I often felt like the vocals were drowning in the mix, almost impossible to hear at times. This sound, this industrial rock sound, was very cool and I liked it a lot
This was honestly not my jam. The music itself was a light piano based pop sound. Which I’m not opposed to but it didn’t really resonate with me. Also the lyrics were kinda all over the place. Sometimes I liked them, other times, didn’t care for them. I mean the cultural value is interesting, being described as the beginning of Bowie becoming Bowie but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
This was a decent album. Had some catchy songs. It works well as background music, but for a dedicated listening session it wasn’t my vibe. Very groovy though.
Made pleasant background noice while I was doing homework. Don’t have much else to say. Not really my thing
This was okay. You can hear the precursor to later rock and roll in his music. Very energetic. Was enjoyable to listen to in the car. Did not do a focused listening session
I loved this album. I need to listen to more muse. There was a good variety of music. I feel like lots of the previous albums have all kinds sounded the same, so this was a welcome change of pace
I quite enjoyed this. The Beatles are actually pretty good or something. My favorite sing I think was Eleanor Rigby. Definitely an interesting album
I’ve been telling myself I need to be harsher with my rating, and I think this’ll start that. This is a two for me. I just don’t click with it. Maybe 80s new wave isn’t my thing? Cause despite the impressive commercial and critical reception of this album, I just don’t care for it. I like the guitar solo in miss me blind. And I like a lot of the lyrics. But for listening to? I just don’t care for it at all
It was okay. There were a few good songs but overall not my thing. I admit I did give it a close listen, especially the second half of the album
A little bit of a front loaded album. Some good songs at the beginning, some pretty rock and roll, but overall kinda just okay
This was pretty good. I like Aretha Franklin. I didn’t listen closely to this album but I enjoyed it
This album felt pretty long. And I would say it was decent. I’m kinda torn between a three and a four for it. I like the Beastie Boys, but i found myself getting tired of their musical style pretty fast. Like good in small doses kind of thing. Too much of it was tiring. When I did pay attention to the lyrics I could usually appreciate the lyricism. Sometimes I thought they were kinda dumb but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
What an “okay” album. I like this genre of goth rock but I don’t care for this execution of it. It was very ambient and instrumental. I think I like one or two songs from it. I’m torn between a 2 and a 3. Half of the album sounds like background music. I wanna give it a 2.5
I didn’t hate it, I didn’t love it. At the beginning I was disliking it, but by the end I enjoyed it. I think the last song was my favorite
This was such a phenomenal album. Real coming of age vibes. I could see myself listening to it while on a nostalgic drive
This was a very forgettable album. I like the genre. I like classic rock. But there was nothing special. If I heard it on the radio I wouldn’t think twice about it, but I would look it up. 2.5 stars
So, in the interest of transparency, I did not finish this album. I think I have “Hear Me Lord” onwards to finish. In fairness, it’s over two hours long. Anyways. I generally like this. I wasn’t expecting to, but I actually enjoyed a number of songs. I think if I broke it up more I’d enjoy it a bit more, I did kinda get tired of it after a while. One song I liked was Art of Dying
This was a very enjoyable album. I don’t listen to a lot of country, but this was nice. The instrumentals were very basic, but the man’s a good story teller. Very easy listening, the album slowed by nicely
An incredibly underwhelming album. I often felt I was forcing myself to listen to it. There were a few good lines, but that’s it. I acknowledge its cultural relevance as Kanye’s first album and its influence on rap culture. Perhaps I would enjoy it more if I paid more attention to the lyrics
I’m thinking 3.5 starts for this one. Some solid songs in the album, some forgettable ones. No bad songs though.
This one was okay. I liked the singles on it. The rest of the stuff was okay. I don’t think I’m a big fan of the heavily sampled, lots of layers style of music. Also, the ego is as offensive as ever. Goddam is this man full of himself
It was good easy listening. No songs I felt like skipping. Didn’t pay much attention to the lyrics so I probably missed out there. Solid enjoyable album.
What a mediocre album. High hopes for this, was let down. The lyrics were usually nonsensical, occasionally charming. The music was… ambient. Background music. But for paying attention to, kinda trash honestly. I will say there were few times I actively wanted to skip, most of the album worked well as background noise while I did homework. Saves it a little I guess. 2.5 stars
I wish I have this album more attention. I listened to it while doing homework so it didn’t get much focus. But I liked it I think.
This was decent. Definitely plenty of bangers on this album. But a good amount meh songs. Good album overall. But his voice is kinda annoying. Like some of the lyrics were good but I couldn’t enjoy hearing them lol. 3.5
This one was decent. Can’t say it’s really my style of music, but it was enjoyable. I liked Good Golly Miss Molly. I think some songs are worth revisiting
Decent album. Not much else to say. The lyrics were mid. The instrumentals were nice. I like the genre. Honestly kinda forgettable
Solid album. I properly enjoyed this. Definitely some bangers on here (Kicks). Even the songs I didn’t enjoy all that much were pretty good. Definitely an upbeat vibe to the whole album
Meh. It was okay. The flow was solid. Production was good. But this just didn’t vibe with me. Couldn’t tell you why. Just not my thing
It was okay. Some good songs. Didn’t love it, didn’t hate it.
This album did not deserve to be as long as it was. The same is true of many songs on the album. There were some good parts, some amazing guitar solos, but generally, I got tired of the album and Metallica in general very fast
Aggressively English. Some good songs, mostly forgettable. An okay listen
Yikes. This album kinda sucked. I admit I didn’t finish it completely, but I was tired of listening to shitty British punk music. The worst part was the voice. The singers voice sucked. The instrumentals were fine, pretty standard.
I worked hard to understand this album. And I’m not sure I get it. There’s definitely some good. After hours was great. Candy Says was good. But a lot of the album didn’t click with me. I didn’t care for the lyrics, but maybe I didn’t give them enough thought/attention. I know lots of people praised the lyrics. I think a lot of this album would be good if I was in the right mood. Some good melancholy vibes. Not all the through of course. Murder Mystery was unique. A bit much (and too long), but it was neat. What Goes On is probably closest to my normal listening stuff. Overall 3.5 stars
I didn’t mind this. An interesting hip hop rock fusion. Worth a listen. 3.5 stars
This is was okay. Not really my genre. I will admit the guy is a good story teller. But other than that, not impressed. Basic instrumentals. His voice is… okay. The accent helps
It was interesting. Not really my kind of music, but I was able to appreciate the “world music” aspect to it. Very interesting culturally
This album was okay. Longer than it needed to be. Kinda groovy, but felt a bit repetitive after a while. Light on lyrics, both quantity and quality
Quite a bit I can say about this one. First, it was long. Also, it was varied. There was clearly a lot of varied musical influences here. Also the lyrics were pretty impactful. I didn’t find the lyric writing to be particularly good, but there was a variety of social and political commentary, as well as repeatededly using characters in the songs. Overall a pretty strong album. I kinda wanna try it again with good headphones to hear some of the small details. Low 4, maybe 3.5
This is an album I can appreciate for the production. I mean it’s a collection of classic Christmas songs, so it’s not really gonna be bad. No love no hate. But I did try to pay attention for the wall of sound and I can say it’s there. The layers of instruments, percussion and even backing vocals make a very full sound. It’s cool to hear how multiple instruments overlayed can create a unique sound. It lead my down a rabbit hole of researching the wall of sound technique. Probably worth a relisten with high quality headphones
This wasn’t bad. Fairly enjoyable. Admittedly, I didn’t pay too much attention to the lyrics but it was nice to listen to in the background. A good relaxing vibe
There were some solid songs on the album. The first song was very good; as were some others. I found the lyric writing to be decent, not amazing, not bad. Didn’t particularly resonate with me, but I didn’t mind it
I can only describe this as dull and a sludge to get through. There was only a single song I somewhat enjoyed, the others I waited for to be over. The genre was hard to place. A little jazzy, a little pop. A forgettable voice with forgettable lyrics
I felt very touched by this album. So many songs on love and longing. A strong voice and powerful lyrics. Definitely some songs I’ll have to come back to. 4 I really like the song A Million Years Ago. I feel like it has some tango undertones.
This album settles nicely into the background. It’s there if you listen to it, but it’s also easy to forget it’s there. It’s music to listen to while I do something else, but not what I would listen to if I wanted to listen to music. The kind of music I would listen to to do homework. I also feel like I would get more out of it if I could hear time signatures better, as the album is famous for its use of unconventional time signatures. Overall, a pleasant album, but one I would only listen to situationally. 3 in general, 4 for that kind of music
Oh boy I did not like this album. His voice is unique and often annoying. Especially when he goes high. It sounds like a pubescent boy voice cracks. Honestly was a slog to get through
You know, I’m not usually a big fan of hip hop but this was really good. Like, really good. The flow and the lyricism were impeccable. While I did get fatigued with the album eventually, it was still phenomenal. The beat was solid (if a bit repetitive) throughout the album. Very little negative to say. If I liked hip hop more this may be a 5
This was a unique album. Definitely lots of variety. From pretty good to pretty bad. Wail was alright, the voice reminded me of Elvis. Actually many of the songs early on in the album were pretty good. I think the albums biggest fault is it’s too long. And too many bad songs. They could cut the album in half and the album would be better off for it. I also can see how this would be a much better experience live. I could see people going crazy for it at the Crossroads. An interesting mix of emotions and feelings from this album.
Well this was pretty damn good for a debut album. Good for any album really. A bunch of iconic songs (More than a Feeling). And honestly a pretty good sound. I’ve kinda moved on a bit from liking this kind of music, but this album is a staple of classic rock. I think it deserves a 4
What a fun album. This is why I do this project. Never heard of the band nor album, but now I get to participate in listening to a historically notable band/album and I enjoyed it more than I expected to. I enjoyed this and may revisit a few songs even though it’s not what I usually listen to
This was a solid album. The first half is very good, last half is kinda eh. A good variety of music too. It doesn’t feel too repetitive. Although I will say the lyrics are pretty weak. A little all over the place in the scheme of the whole album, and even within each song the lyrics are kinda just okay at best. Also the first song sounds like sex b-bom. Remove the last third of the album you have a 4, but the whole album is a 3.5
Yeesh, what an unremarkable album. Synth pop to the max. Very few lyrics, and the lyrics are barely noticeable when there. Repetitive drums and melodies. The only interesting song was Asylum
What a phenomenal album. Loved it. Personal Jesus was my favorite song but there were many great songs. The lyrics were pretty good, not amazing, but good. One of my favorite albums from this project. Love the dark and almost moody mood of the whole album
Okay, so I acknowledge that this was a good album from an objective standpoint. But I do t think I’m a big funk guy. The lyrics were great, especially on the last song. But the singing just didn’t do it for me, plus funk is okay 3.5
This was a fun album. I kinda hated the last Iron Maiden album, but this one was alright. Much less excessively long songs. A lot more melodic, and of course some killer guitar solos. When I did pay attention to the lyrics I found they were okay, but still not bad. 3.5
This was actually a fairly enjoyable album. Many of the songs were long, too long, but they were good. Tom Sawyer is a banger. Witch Hunt is very good (in a different way). I appreciated the mix of instrumentals. I wasn’t thrilled by the singing, and the lyrics were mid. But over good. 3.5
This was a very interesting album. And it properly represents one of the reasons I’m doing this project, that is to be exposed to things I never would otherwise listen to. I appreciate how this album is an educational experience, with aspects of Indian music being explained before it is played. Although I wouldn’t say it makes me want to listen to more, I appreciate the album nonetheless
Other than the first songs, this has been a very enjoyable album. The drums, synth, guitar working together in harmony form a wonderful soundscape for most of the songs. There’s also some interesting range, with the ambience of Elegía to the synth heavy more dance pop sound most of the album has. This album feels distinctly 80s. Low 4
Not really a big fan of this album. Maybe I don’t like soul, or maybe I don’t like David Bowie doing soul. 3
Most of this album low key sounds like elevator music. Not necessarily bad, but not the most engaging listen. Works great for background music. Less great for an album to listen to and pay attention to
This was a solid album.
A lot of people said this album kinda sounds like good music. And those people are spot on. It’s not a bad album. But it definitely works more as background music. The first song was my favorite, the others were a bit bland. I was relieved when it was over
I’m sure if I liked The Beach Boys, I would really like this album. Unfortunately, I don’t care for the Beach Boy, and thus I don’t care for this album. Definitely had that distinct sound.
Having stuck with this project for a while now, there are a number of albums I wish I could go back and give a 5. But I think this one will be the first I properly give a 5. This is just a soulful album. So many songs I can feel his heart breaking. Some wonderful covers on here too. Hurt, Personal Jesus, and We’ll Meet Again were my favorites. It’s a very simple album too. Many songs were just the guitar and voice. So simple, yet so touching
Gotta say, not a big fan of Bruce Springsteen. I didn’t mind him prior to this album, but I gotta say I was finding myself waiting for it to be over. I mean it’s classic americana. Don’t know what else to say
This one wasn’t bad. I appreciate the exposure to the music of other cultures. I couldn’t understand the lyrics, so no comment there. It was definitely a style I’m unfamiliar with, but I annoyed it nonetheless
This was okay. The instrumentals were good, some solid riffs. But the singing. The singing was just not it for me. Also the lyrics, when in English, were fine
Finally a recent album. First of all I really resonated with the themes and lyrics of this album. Lots of talks of relationships, insecurities and such. It felt very emotional. What I didn’t like were any of the features and honestly SZA’s voice. Idk why but the way she sings doesn’t do it for me. Similarly, I didn’t really care for the instrumentals on this album. Basically, I liked the lyrics and themes, didn’t care for basically anything else. As far as songs go, I liked Supermodel, Drew Berrymore, and Pretty Little Birds. Both lyrically and overall. Prom was good lyrically, but I didn’t care for its sound.
This album was okay. There definitely some recognizable songs on there which were cool. But I found the faux live album thing to be odd
This was a very good album. I really enjoyed the subtle instrumentals with the focus on the voice. Speaking of voice, it’s the perfect amount of deep growl. Not too grating. The lyrics were also very good too. Not a particularly religious person, but I appreciate the themes anyways. And the lyrics often stand great on their own
This was a strong album, even if it’s not my genre. Very good singing voice, very smooth, powerful at times. Lyrics were mostly pretty good. A thoroughly emotional vibe throughout. The music as a whole was very… smooth? I don’t have a better word for it. 3.5, very close to a 4
This was actually a pretty good album. Liked it much better than hunky dory. I’ll admit, much more piano than I was expecting from a glam rock album. But not a bad thing. The lyrics I am a bit torn on. I initially thought they were okay, but after reading more about the album and the inspirations for each of the songs I now have a much deeper appreciation for them. I can definitely appreciate the themes, even if the actual lyrics don’t resonate strongly with me. Also, one of the most iconic musician pictures of all time
Yeah I just didn’t really care for this. I mean there were a couple songs ones here but mehhhhh. I didn’t care for this guys voice. The instrumentals felt subdued and basic. Maybe the lyrics had more going on
Not super impressed by this album. I’m noticing a pattern with Radiohead, that is the lyric writing is generally pretty weak. Like there are some good moments, but mostly they’re mediocre. Nor is Thom York a particularly good singer. Definitely detracts from the listening experience. All that said, Radiohead is very good at getting the vibes. The layered instrumentals probably help with that. A solid 3
I think this is the first prince I’ve listened to outside of Purple Rain (the song). Gotta say, it’s pretty good. Good singing, a fascinating mix of instrumentals. It’s incredible to know that he did everything himself. A very talented guy. And a very horny guy too. Not my usual listening, but maybe worth listening to more
This was a cool album conceptually.
This was a great album. The singing wasn’t great, but punk often had that problem. I didn’t pay as much attention to the lyrics as I’d like but I really enjoyed listening to the album. The horn pieces, which threw off some people, I felt added to the soundscape
I think Teenage Fanclub is an appropriate name, since this feels like a teen band. In a good way. Just the lyrics and the musical ability, kinda sounds like if I had musical ability in high school and tried to form a band. A very interesting combo of like 60s pop and elements of pop punk. Some songs I liked more than others. I could see myself listening to this more. There is a certain charm to it though. 3.5
This was strongly 80s. The synth was pervasive. This album is home to girls just wanna have fun. 3 I guess
Gotta say, good album. I don’t listen to a lot of this funk stuff, but it’s good. Some interesting percussion. Just generally a good vibe. And a touch of social commentary
This was an enjoyable album. It makes me want to learn to salsa dance. Not much else to say
This was kinda just a boring album. Not bad. Just boring. Okay lyrics, with okay singing, with okay instrumentals. Not part of it was bad, yet nothing to excite
I mean it was okay. I recognized the first song as the one sampled for Rappers Delight. It was pleasant in the background. Did really inspire any strong emotional reaction. 3.5
What an iconic album. A quite good one too. The flow is pretty insane. Arguably one of the most iconic rap albums of all time. I enjoyed it. It was really long however. 3.5
This one was interesting. I listened to it with earbuds, and I’m glad I did, I think I caught a lot of sonic details I otherwise would have missed. Again, this album suffers from Thom Yorks singing. I think the lyric writing was a bit better than the previous Radiohead albums, but it’s not amazing. Just decent. Despite this, there were some really enjoyable riffs (I Might Be Wrong). The whole album felt very experimental, and less like music and more of an experience. Like it was trying to convey specific emotion and a sense of going through something (Hunting Bears, Like Spinning Plates). I think the album name is spot on. Probably my favorite Radiohead album so far actually. 3.5
I mean this was a fine album. Not really my thing. The instrumentals were interesting enough. Singing wasn’t my thing. I think this just isn’t my genre. Cause I don’t have great criticism for it
Short and sweet. Very punk. Not much else to say really. It was good. I enjoyed it
What an incredible album. She has an incredible voice. One that spoke to me. Lyrics that told beautiful stories. Instrumentals that perfectly accented her voice. Not too much, not too little. Simple yet powerful. Logically I feel like this album is a four, yet my demands demands a 5. I love this album
This was fine? Each song was repeated twice which I found unnecessary. The live aspect was mildly interesting. Especially listening with headphones
This was a great album. I enjoyed almost every single song on this album, plus there were so many iconic songs on this album. I think this is Metallica at their peak. I do admit it is a bit of a front heavy album. Cutting a few songs from the album probably would’ve been beneficial, but it was an amazing album for what it was. 4.5
A interesting album. No lyrics throughout the album. Definitely a bit experimental. The first song was awful and does not deserve to be called music. The second was probably my favorite. Most of the rest of the album reminded me of lofi study beats. Lots of… nature sounds used throughout the album. Not bad, but the first song kinda ruined it for me
I have mixed reviews about this. I hated it at first but it grew on me. I liked the song with the French title. Lyrics were good across the album. Easily the best part. Her voice was… interesting. I mostly found it annoying. Sometimes it worked well. And the instrumentals were kinda hit or miss. I mostly found them boring and repetitive
I don’t have much to say against this album, other than it just really didn’t click with me. Like everything about it was okay. And honestly I was waiting for it to be over. 2.5
Great album. This was one I had mostly listened to before this project, so I was familiar. Great band
This is my first proper exposure to Jimi Hendrix. Gotta say, it’s interesting, but probably not my thing. Impressive guitar work, I mean it is what he is known for. Some catchy songs, but I felt I did do a lot of waiting for it to be over. There are probably some songs worth revisiting, and I admit this was a clearly influential sound
I don’t speak French. So i probably lost a lot here considering how this album is a story. That plus the fact a lot of it was told kinda spoken like a poem didn’t help. The instrumentals were fine, but I didn’t have the context or ability to enjoy this. I had to do research which helped me understand why it’s on the list
This is pretty good. A good mix of rock and roll, some folk rock, and certain something else I can’t place. The voice is interesting, I’m torn between liking it and it getting annoying after a while. A worthwhile use of my time. Gives me very classic rock vibes. 3.5
A little bit of mixed feelings here. I feel like the album started strong but couldn’t keep it up. Show Me Magic was a great, fun song. Probably my favorite on the album. But many of the songs right after that one sounded very superficially similar. Then there was a bit more musical variety. I would say it’s a good, but not special album. 3
Great album. One of my favorite rap albums I’ve heard. His storytelling is honestly incredible. Pretty good flow too
This was fun! Great guitar and vocals, good vibes all around. Not a single point that I felt like skipping, although I can’t say any single song jumped out at me
This wasn’t bad. I actually rather enjoyed it. I didn’t pay too much to the lyrics, but the overall vibes were both varied and quite nice. 3.5
This album felt like good vibes. Like the instrumentals kinda sounded like a group of good musicians just jamming with some direction from the singer. On my first listen I really enjoyed the album. Idk why, I generally don’t vibe with this style, but it worked for me.
This was decent. I appreciate the message behind the album even if most of the album wasn’t really my vibe.
I enjoyed this. I was a little unclear as to how to describe the genre, but it was still good. I probably won’t relisten to this album too much. I think there was some Cyndi Lauper inspiration here but maybe a bit more rock.
A very very good album. At no point did I ever feel like skipping a song. A beautiful voice complimented by the instrumentals. I wish I paid more attention to the lyrics, but when I did it was good. Not as rock as my usual music, but a solid listen
I really enjoyed this. Something to listen to again. Even though it felt very grunge to me, the Wikipedia noted this is a much more refined sound for them, so it may be interesting to go back and listen to some earlier stuff.
Well as my first intro to Sonic Youth it was interesting. Didn’t really enjoy it too much. The album as a whole was very long. I often found the mix to be very muddled, sounding more like a collections of sounds rather than a melodic cohesive piece. The lyrics were fine when I could pay attention to them but I often found them buried in the mix
Other than the occasional Bob Marley, this is my first introduction to Raggae. And I can say, it’s not really for me. It wasn’t bad, but I wouldn’t listen to it on my own. I can appreciate the message communicated in the lyrics but I didn’t particularly enjoy the music itself
This was a decent album; pretty front loaded IMO. By the last half or so I was getting tired of it. I might just have a lower tolerance for disco. Rock With You was my favorite song. Nothing crazy to say here
I have some mixed feelings about this album. On one hand there were some solid beats, some hip hop, some more electro. The lyrics were weak, and it got repetitive at times, but overall I enjoyed it
A wide variety in this album. The first few songs were kinda rock, then Business as Usual was a weird ambient, almost horror soundtrack like song. Next we moved into a smooth jazz thing. Then more experimental stuff. It felt like less of a cohesive album and more of a collection of disparate songs. Not a bad listen though
What a weird and delightful album. Lots of weird sounds, weird sound effects (or maybe weird instruments). Yet for some reason enjoyable. I didn’t pay as much attention to the lyrics as I’d like to, but it was good anyways. Definitely something to listen to more of
Side one is an excellent piece that represents what an album means to me. A cohesive piece flowing from one song to another, each a self contained story while being part of a bigger picture. It was painted with a gentle sadness that resonated deeply within me. An inspiring piece which if I ever make an album would be a guiding light. The story from youth to old age all with a gloomy background really touched me. The second side was also good, just different. Many enjoyable songs, A Hazy Shade of Winter was my favorite. It is simply not a cohesive piece the way the first side is. I’m giving this a 4 for the first side of the album, as it meant so much to me, and I don’t find the second side to be much of a detractor
So far my favorite songs are Welcome to the Working Week and Mystery Dance. Watching the Detectives was also good in a different way. The overall sound of the album clearly had a wide variety of influences, and lyrically had a pretty wide spread too. Some political, some about relationships , and usually cynical. Definitely gives me a new impression of Elvis Costello. 3.5
What an iconic album. Some good songs, definitely a notable moment in hip hop. A unique vocal style with punchy beats. Definitely a notable moment in music history. 3.5
Ah, what a delightful album. And I gave it a good listen too. I noticed that Lilac Wine stood out a bit compared to the songs around it, making sense that it’s a cover. Eternal life also stood out quite a bit as being a more hard rock sound. I quite enjoyed it. And of course the classic love songs. Lover you should’ve come over. So heartbreaking. His voice is so full of emotion. An album which seems to be there for me during heartbreak. Lyrically pleasant. Love it
Okay this was a pretty solid album. I liked his voice and the instrumentals were simple but quite enjoyable. The lyrics could be a bit funny, but often took a storytelling vibe. Honestly a 4 for the new style and overall enjoyableness
Not really enjoyable. The instruments were a bit annoying and the vocals were mid. Some okay story telling, I bet there’s probably some story behind this album if I do more research. But as is I didn’t care for it
This was simply a boring album. Santana is this legendary guitarist in my mind but… eh. There wasn’t anything special to me
I would say this was an enjoyable listening experience. Sabotage is good, I liked flute loop, Tough Guy was an odd punk song honesty. There was good musical variety. Like sabrosa, idk what to call that. World music? That being said, it was weird to have instrumentals with no vocals, even if the variety was nice. I also found the album to be a bit long. In short, good variety musically, classic hip hop, punk, world music , etc. even if the instrumental only songs were an odd inclusion. A bit long and not every song was good. 3.5
I did not care for most of the songs on this album. The whole album was very rough around the edges, the singing in particular I found to be mostly annoying. I was tired of the album around half way through it. It felt like there was a lot of potential but it didn’t work for me. I did enjoy the last song on the album though. 2.5
As far as Radiohead albums go this has been one of my favorites. I usually really don’t like Radiohead but I enjoyed this. Hard to say why. Maybe the singing has grown on me. It seemed more center stage in this one. Maybe the instrumentals were more defined. I distinctly remember the piano being a notable part of this. 4
Generally a good album. Not my usual style of music but I mostly enjoyed it. The lyrics were good. My favorite song was Video Girl. It’s probably nothing I’ll come back to, but I can appreciate it
An iconic album. And yet it felt a little dated. Which I suppose it is. I don’t know, I expected to enjoy this album more. There were good songs, but overall it was just aight
A weird amount of variety in this album. I would be hard pressed to pick a genre to describe this album as. It seemed to change every few songs. In a good way. The lyricals weren’t particularly impressive, nor particularly bad. Gotta give points for variety
Paper Planes is easily the best song on this album. Other than that it’s kinda just okay. Not bad. Not good. Some interesting beats. Some silly lyrics
I found this album to have a bit of a repetitive sound. Not a bad one, just repetitive. Which made listening to it a bit boring. Street Joy was a different, slower, a bit sadder sound. Overall the album was kinda just average
This album was not great. The only song I really enjoyed was the titular song, even though it was quite long. Had some very nice riffs in it. 2.5
I found this whole album to be rather calming. Relaxing. And she has such a beautiful. Worth listening to again. 4
This was honestly one of my favorite David Bowie albums. This one really clicked with me
This was fine. Female hip hop group. I thoughts the beats were okay. Some songs were a bit repetitive. Not really worth a relisten
This record was really good. Pretty much every beat was fire, the flow was solid and there was a rich social criticism throughout. Honestly it’s a 4
I found a neat inverse correlation between how much harmonica is in a song and how good it is. His songwriting is good don’t get me wrong, but lay off the harmonica.
I don’t know what to call this genre, orchestra, big band, whatever, but it’s not something I listen to. Not to say I didn’t like this, but it felt like something I would put on in the background
This wa as fine album. Pretty unique. Not exactly my thing but it was good. 3
Find this to be a pretty average rock album with some interesting variety of instruments and average lyrics
Very strong lyrics, very strong vocals. I like Cohens voice, very rich, very deep. And his lyrics are very well done, I may revisit some songs just to pay more attentions to the lyrics. But outside of that, this album was kinda average. The instrumentals and production was kinda just fine. 3.5
A couple thoughts on this album. Firstly, it has very pleasant melodies, many songs give the vibe of smiles in the sunshine. That being said, most of the vocals sound like Carl from that Jimmy Newton show. So not the most pleasant
This wasn’t bad. I really liked the beats/production. I didn’t pay enough attention to the lyrics. I would say I enjoyed it overall but got tired of it 2/3 way through. I appreciate the cultural impact and influence on hip hop. 3
One of the best things from this project is my appreciation for soul music. It really speaks to me. And Aretha Franklin has such an angelic voice. It’s just beautiful
This was good. At some points it felt more like noise rock, but it often had really good riffs. I think I may go for a 4 for this because even if I didn’t enjoy the whole thing, I really enjoyed what I did enjoy
This sounded like horror movie ambience. Not much to say. 1.5
Yeesh. It wasn’t bad per se, but it was super boring. Like most of it sounded like background music to a video game with uninspired vocals. I was waiting for it to be over
This was a decent album. I didn’t love a lot of the beats, but the flow was good and the lyrics were strong
Surprisingly far ahead of its time. A nice soft rock/post punk album. Not sure how to feel about the singing voice but it fits the genre. I like the guitar work, even if it gets repetitive over the course of the album. Some long songs, unnecessarily so in my opinion. 3.5
Very thrashy, but i actually really enjoyed it. It was really fast, adrenaline pumping. Hard guitar riffs and mad drums. I didn’t pay a lick of attention to the lyrics, but who cares. It was a bit repetitive throughout, the album very much had a sound, but I didn’t really get tired of it until the end
Great album! Wonderful voice filled with such desperation and emotion. Lyrics were good. Loved the hard rock, raspy nature of the album
A perfectly fine album. Some good songs, some meh songs. I didn’t love it, didn’t hate it. Some political lyrics that are from a time and place I don’t super connect to.
Okay this album kinda sucked. The concept is cool, and I can appreciate the uniqueness of the production, but the beats were generally just okay, and the whole album sound unfinished. No lyrics, plus most of the songs just being okay, plus some of the experimental stuff just didn’t sound good to me. Plus the album was way too long
Simple acoustic guitar and vocal accompaniment. Lyrics are short but have a poetic quality. Big themes of live and depression. 3.5
A strong start with Immigrant Song, but it doesn’t maintain that energy. It actually transitions to a much more acoustic heavy, almost folk rock. The lyrics are mostly pretty mediocre, but the singing itself is still powerful. An enjoyable experience
I wanted to enjoy this one more. I did enjoy it. But not a ton. I don’t really know why. I’ve listened to it twice. It’s very aggressive. Some good songs. Idk, not much to say
Classic. A very good albums, lots of great songs on it. Very boppy. Enjoyable
I didn’t like it as much as her first album but it was good. Lots of distorted guitars. I wish her vocals were more clear. They get lost in the mix. Makes it hard to hear the lyrics. But the aggression is there, enjoyable
This was an okay album. Fine for background, I got bored when trying to intensive listen. Not much to say
I feel like almost all the music I’ve heard from Stevie Wonder is just good vibes. Just upbeat tunes. And I love that. This album was no exception. While there were a few songs with different emotional elements, overall it was still upbeat. And some interesting musical variety too. And what a beautiful voice. 4
Good album, favorite songs were Black and Even Flow. Did get tired of the voice after a while but it’s cool. Good guitar. 3.5
I really enjoyed it. Had grunge sounds but more melodic almost? I really need to listen to more Pavement
What an amazing album. Some song more simple, others with more complex layers. I love this album a lot. Electric Feel into Kids is amazing.
Decent album. Good singing. Didn’t love it didn’t hate it
This was a great album. I only knew fast car beforehand, which is honestly still my favorite song, but the whole album has a similar vibe
Too fucking long, even though I admit it’s a double album. Good stuff. Sounds to me like 90s hip hop. Surprising that this is the origin of Hey Ya
I got some mixed feelings about this one. Very experimental. Very out there. I appreciated some bits. But overall experience I didn’t care for
I like this album. I like lots of the songs on it. I get why it may not be for everyone.
A pretty good album, although I did love the lyrics or the singing. The guitar work is good. 3.5
This was a great album. At times I felt like I was on the way to the ren faire. Other times were more introspective. I loved white winter hymnal
A generally enjoyable album. A wide range of quality on this. Many of the songs sound like musical doodles, or half baked ideas. Even the good ideas sometimes needed work. I did like the genre, and if half of the content was cut it would’ve been better 3.5
This was good. Kinda punk. Fun
Some sweet love songs
Looooong. Some good songs. Sir Duke is my favorite
I off saw this album described as ethereal and I think that’s a beautiful adjective. It sounds like a soundtrack to a movie
This was an enjoyable album. I never felt like I was waiting for it to be over. 3.5
This was a short album. I didn’t mind it mostly. Enjoyed it at first, but they have a distinctive sound that I got tired of. The last song, the titular song, was different, but I didn’t care for it either. 3
Lived this album. Big fan of the black keys. Favorite song was Howlin for you
I would say I enjoyed this album
Am album from 1988 with an old country vibe. I dig it. And it was short too
Honestly the first and last songs were my favorite. Everything else was okay. Good easy listening
This was good. I find myself increasingly enjoying Simon and Garfunkel. 3.5
Yeah this was good. Can say I’m a fan of Motörhead. Admittedly they have a distinctive sound but that’s not bad
I feel like this style of country is the cousin to Soul. I’m not sure which style, or at least what’s the name but. The themes of love and heartbreak, the composition strongly focuses on the singers voice with only complementary instrumental accompaniment. My personal enjoyment is a 3, but the lyrics and it being Dolly Parton makes it a 4
Didn’t love it, didn’t hate it. Made for good easy listening
Great album. Loved it. Appreciated the history behind the album
A little disappointed not gonna lie. Saw the genres indie and rock and got… not what I was expecting. Very soundscape-y, using lots of non instruments. Didn’t care for the vocals too much. 2.5
Well I’ve listened to 50s popular songs, but this exposed me to a lot more. I think I like it. He is certainly very… cocky? I guess. Not terrible. I like his voice
Honestly not really my thing. I don’t think the live aspect added much and I might just not be a The Who fan. There is some good guitar work, but I just don’t click with it
A shortie but a goodie. I appreciated the musical variety in this. I agree with the producer that the conversation snippets sound a bit gimmicky but that’s okay. Lots of experimental things, didn’t enjoy all of them. The vocals through the guitar amp was a little disappointing. But holistically, I think this is a 4
Meh. It was alright. Easy listening. Reminds me of old country for some weird reason
Mixed feelings. On one hand, the guitars and drums were hard. Great instrumentals. On the other, the vocals were annoying on most songs. 3.5
Mehhhh. I have yet to enjoy Bjork I think. I appreciate the experimentalism but that’s about it. I didn’t hate it at least
Another PJ Harvey album. Pretty good, not my favorite of hers. The anger has definitely been toned down which I think is a loss, but her vocals are emphasized a lot more which is nice. She’s a good singer
A very very good album. Beautiful lyrics through and through, although I did find Daylight to be very repetitive. Some nice variety of songs, overall good listening experience. Torn between a 4 and 5
Short and sweet. Not much to criticize, good singer, good music. Mid lyrics I guess. Not exactly my genre, but I can’t complain about much. So 3.5 or 4
Very punk. Got a bit repetitive with the guitar, but the album was short enough not to be a problem
This was pretty good. Some nice variety
Breaking the law was my favorite. Generally like this one
He says some crazy stuff, but the way he says it is great. Phenomenal flow, great beats. Some crazy lyrics
What a great album. Kinda pop, kinda rock, several bangers. Songs that just make you wanna sing along
Short album. Liked our house. Good variety. 3.5
Honestly didn’t finish this album. Probably did about 75 percent, but I did not like it. Too ambient. It’s background music at best. 2
I liked it. Mainly California dreaming
Mehhh. Generic post punk that got repetitive quick
Great story teller, some classic songs. The guitar gets a bit repetitive
It was a 70s rock album. Short, I appreciate that.
Actually a nice album. Very complex. I liked all the string instruments
Some old style country music I didn’t hate but didn’t like
Okay album. Didn’t live it didn’t hate it. Sounds like queen alright
Weiiiird. Very melancholy and ambient. Reminded me of Radiohead. I think with the right mood this would hit really hard
This album was just 50% shine on you crazy diamond. Good song I guesss. Nice guitar work.
One of the more notable things about this album was the story telling and the meaning behind the lyrics
Yeah this was not for me. I just don’t care for the reggae style sound
Can’t say I loved it. Felt lacking in bass lol
This sucked. Like it was bad. At one point it just felt like noise, not music
He has a unique guitar style, very arpeggiated, which is… something While I like the quality of his voice, the timbre and the depth, I don’t think he is a great singer
Some good jams I guess. Honestly after the weekend I’ve kinda forgotten most of the album sooo. Hard to handle is good
Not my favorite offspring album but it’s still good
Roundabout was a cool song. A meme song. The fish was cool despite the odd sound effects. Mood for a day was kinda relaxing in a weird way. Overall I kinda liked the album
Yeah I don’t get the appeal here. The guitar was weird (yet interesting), the singing was more like slam poetry, overall it was kinda just okay. Perhaps the novelty is why this album is held in such high regard but idk
This was a decent album. My opinion of smashin pumpkins is mostly unchanged; that is to say I like the guitars and general sound but I get tired of the vocals very quickly
I really enjoyed this album. And I think a key part of it was how I listened to it. AirPods in, in an unhappy mood. It was a perfect tone. A great mix of ambient and rock adjacent sounds. My favorite songs were Karma Police and Exit Music for a Film. I probably wouldn’t have enjoyed it if I was in a different mood, but for how I felt it was perfect
I normally don’t like live albums, but this is a notable exception. I feel like this one added a lot to the album. There was something amusing about the inmates cheering at the murder and drugs in Cash’s songs. The cheers added quite a bit to the album which I didn’t expect. And as far as the songs, there is Cash’s usual storytelling like songwriting. Guitar is good, if occasionally repetitive. And I like his voice
Wow. This was great. The bass, drums, guitar, lyrics. What an amazing album
This was a catchy album. But outside of that, kinda forgettable. I didn’t have any strong critiques. But I didn’t really love it either. I just wasn’t passionate about it
