Music From Big Pink
The BandI hear every genre in this lp. I also hear the influence this album had on so many bands since 1968. Wonderful and inspiring music.

I don't see what all the hype is about this guy
Eh, not my cup of ramen and I just don't get electronic music with a cockney accent repeating the 3 to 4 lines written for each song.
Was aware of John Coltrane and the A Love Supreme album due to my time working at Tower Records for 10 years, but this was my first listen. I liked the solos of each instrument and how the individual songs were just that - independent - but somehow blended together. I rate this a 4 out of 5.
Familiar with the album and a big fan of what the two lifelong friends became. Standout tracks are Scarborough Fair, Homeward Bound (my favorite) , 59th St. Bridge & Silent Night/7 o'clock news. Their first album as S&G and it shows. But talented enough.
Wow, what a nice surprise. Am aware of the Black Keys mostly the current stuph, but this album kicks. Just a guitar and drum duo amazes you how much quality sound they produce. The guitarist and vocalist Dan Auerbach is also a sometime DJ on Sirius XM radio
I'll admit it I love me some Chili's!! This was my favorite album until they released Stadium Arcadium, but only because SA was a double LP. Standout tracks are Scar Tissue, Otherside, Californication, Savior & Road tripping.
Wow! Nile Rodgers, Luther Vandross, Bernard Edwards & Tony Thompson just to name a few make this a top notch R&B/Disco releases of 1978.
Compared to Sabbath, Zep and Queen. I'm a big fan of the latter two and do not agree.
I give it a 1 because it has bagpipes - which is a good thing.
Pure Zep gold!
I bought this album 5 times, twice the lp (original release in 69 and again the Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab edition. On 8 track and the original CD and the 2014 remastered CD.
Great, just great!
Based on the title track this would earn 5 stars but due to the remainder os the songs being hot tub jazz, which is definitely not my cup of tea I have to score a 2
In 2014, the Los Angeles Times called it "the most important pop album of the last 40 years".[2] Yeah, I don't think so. It's good butthe most important?
Been listening to this band since their first EP Chronic Town (different meaning to chronic back then).
I know the Swifties are all about Shake it Off but for my money Clean is the stand out track
Popular at college radio but vocals are not deserving of attention.
"To summarise...this album and the genre it belongs too should be sealed in a large container and buried in a secret location...never to be found and/or opened again. 0 Stars!" Couldn't have said it better
Had this on an 8 track tape in 1977, nuff said
So sad
Scott 2 deserves a 2
I hear every genre in this lp. I also hear the influence this album had on so many bands since 1968. Wonderful and inspiring music.
Was aware of band but thought they were a jazz/new age category. So the electronic music surprised me and not a good one.
Great musicianship but just not my cup of tea.
Wow, color me surprised. Read the bio before listening and was not expecting Reggae from a gent born in Scotland.
I disliked this more than I thought I would
I didn't have the time to listen to this 15 minute album
Classic live album.
2 songs from this album were already on my main playlist which confirms I have excellent taste in music.
I'm way more confused than I was before listening to this album.
This was my favorite U2 album since Boy, and stayed that way until Actung Baby was released.
Who's idea was it to include this album?
One thing is for sure, Paul Weller is a huge Paul McCartney fan.
I believe the word Shite has been used frequently to describe this record. Not agreeing nor am I disagreeing.
Most definitely not their best effort.
It's alright but not gonna be included on my main playlist. 2.5/5
Enjoyable but haters gonna hate
Watching the biopic earlier this year helped me understand the thought process while composing their songs (Wailersl contributed equally)
C'mon, it's The Beatles White Album! 🥰💯❤️😍
The punk rock I've learned to respect was either political (The Clash) or tongue in cheek (Sex Pistols, Dead Kennedys). This band is neither, they do love to compose songs about sex or the lack of.
My Journalism teacher in high school introduced us to this album which introduced me to prog. Next thing you know Jethro Tull and Moody Blues are in heavy rotation on my turntable.
Yuck 0/5
As stated before by another member: " Too much Prog, not enough Rock. I'm more of an Adrian Belew Crimson fan than this stuff.
This album was fairly big during my time as a DJ and Music Director for a college radio station in the 80's. Unfortunately it hasn't aged as well as a lot of its contemporaries.
Was aware of the band but not the history they made. It's OK but not something I would listen to frequently. I did add 5 Man Army to my main playlist for it's Reggae sound. 3.5/5
Sounds way too much like Michael
One of my favorite records from that time and it was fun to listen to the whole thing instead of the occasional play on satellite radio.
The Jam delivered excellent rock records and The Style Council released excellent pop records. This is wonderful! The composition and recording are so damn good!
I don't get it. This lp has a ton of 5 reviews praising the funk. Quite frankly I hear nore funk in a Chili Peppers album or a Grand Funk Railroad lp. Don't get me wrong it is very good but it starts off with a 9 minute Rock solo guitar and ends with another 9 minute opus but this time it was an ode to the band War. In-between were some very good soul and blues tracks. I will be listening again.
According to 23andme I am 93% irish and yet this is not my jam
I challenge the fact that there are 2 Hole albums on this list!
I like some PJ but this one is not some.
Not my cup of tea nor what I appreciate coming out if my headphones.
Wow, Tim Buckley goes Prog
Not a fan of ABBA and this one didn't change my mind.
I liked this a lot. Very surprised I did.
One of my favorite Bowie albums. Nothing but a rating of 10/10 on every track.
No thanks
A really great album, especially a debut release. Loved it when it came out and it still holds up after almost 40 years.
Why oh why do we have to listen to more than one Megadeth album?
Impressive that Norah was only 21 when she released this debut. It's alright listening occasionally but not too occasional.
Eh, not my cup of ramen and I just don't get electronic music with a cockney accent repeating the 3 to 4 lines written for each song.
Wow, great host and great guests which should pop but it don't to me.
Another great album by Robert and gang. Loved this band since the first time I'd heard Boys Don't Cry on college radio. Fave songs: Pictures of you, fascination street, lovesong & lullaby
I disagree. Did not have to listen to this caca. 0/5
I really had to grow into this lp. All my friends were goo goo about it but I was not impressed. Well they say you get wiser as you grow older so now I'm a big fan.
The Monkees debuted on tv when I was 11 years old, and they were my jam. Several reviews applaud the Headquarters lp because the boys contributed more than vocals. But the first two albums were played by session hired guns and written by professionals. So they were my favorite. On their fourth they had the experience of writing and playing unlike Headquarters their rookie effort.
I've heard of them but never heard then. Unexpectedly impressed 3.5/5
A very good album. Released a year after I graduated high school, and I was all about Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and locally the Tubes. So I didn't pay much attention to Laurel Canyon music unless it was on the radio. But surprise, I enjoyed it very much
I just couldn't continue after 3 songs.
Way too folky
Sorry but I'm not religiovs
So many great songs (Suite Judy..., Teach your children, Marrakesh Express and a cover of Everybody's Talking) with arguably the best harmonies this side of the Beatles.
I'm at a loss as to why this is on this list.
Man o man did they lie. This not hardcore, at all. Just a major crush on Bowie with none of the talent.
Not the first time Paul has slipped in some tasty Afro beats
Very hip album. Enjoyed it a lot.
No thanks
Very cool music
Not my favorite Nirvana album.
I knew about them but didn't pay much attention to them. Now I know why. Obviously BIG fans of Prince, but more so on his guitar prowess and it's a nice quality to imitate but not enough to keep my interest.
It's okay
Mighty fine punk rock with a saxophone?!?
I don't see what all the hype is about this guy
The studio effects really shine on this album.
I hate to be cruel to the handicapped but Sir Wyatt is no Don Henley in the vocals category
Better than his sister's album.
Wow, their first 2 albums are masterpieces. I received both on my birthday from my gay cousin who knew his stuff about the category of music. I prefer the second one to the first but both are solid 5/5
Definitely their best album.
This is good, especially the 3 singles, but not as good as Meat is Murder, the lp before this one.
Wow, a who's who of talent participated on this lp, Hendrix, Clapton, Booker T, Ringo, Cass Elliot and Andy Johns in the engineer seat. No wonder it sounds as good as it does.
eh
Boo. Hiss
Reminds me of OMD which is not a bad thing at all.
Sounds like a great pub band playing California punk. Liked it a lot!
I heard more Boy George influence than Lou Reed. And I know I don't want to hear this again.
Eventually the artist formerly know as Prince is a bloody genius and Purple Rain is just another example of that.
Nice voice but lousy songs. Am not aware of Czars and after experiencing their leas singer I will not be researching them.
The band that gave us Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins has to be a 5/5!
Absolutely love the funk built into this. I agree with my fellow reviewer that this is a jazz album for rock fans.
I could've lived my life happy without listening to this. So no, not something I need to hear.
Sorry Tom, but I'm just not digging it.
I really liked "Do You Realize".
It's hard to believe that this band has 2 albums one must listen to. Actually I'm gobsmacked that they produced 1 lp that fit the criteria.
Big fan of the fish jut not so much of the band.
I agree with Wiki description, there is more rock on this album compared to the pop sound on her previous releases. Plus the contributions from Prince is a bonus.
Thought I was a fan of Kate Bush but this is the first time I listened to this album all the way through and color me impressed. Love the pop sensibilities of side one but totally enjoyed the prog of the '9th Wave' side.
Morrissey is talented but Marr is the star of this band.
This is ok but haven't heard anything better than West End Girls from them since its release.
Fuck Kanye
Heard it back in the day but thought another listen couldn't hurt. Again, I was wrong. Hasn't caused an appreciation whatsoever.
Noise annoys
I apologize for being prejudiced towards Bob Dylan (Robert Zimmerman). I think he's a genius!
Am a fan of the band, especially Jeff Tweedy. But not so much of this album. I find it too boring and nothing like their earlier work.
I've heard much better songs from this band and unfortunately none are on this album.
I like me some Afrobeat and I like this. Sorry to read about the consequences that resulted from the government not accepting the criticism.
How does Tim Walz say it? Oh yeah, "Weird"
Yeah, no
MTV would not have been as good without ZZ Top.
Was this a joke being played on us?
Full disclosure, I'm a big Bowie fan. As usual I love the pop rock songs but not so much the electronic instrumentals. Also, my least favorite of the Berlin Trilogy.
Every album released in 1972 should have been mandatory to be that band's cover/version of Vicious
