Didn't understand a single word...but I get it
I've loved Eddie Vedder's voice since first hearing "Alive", and later "Into The Wild". His voice conveys pure, raw emotion, making it perfect for storytelling.
This album took me back to 90s old school hip hop. Great album from start to finish.
I went into this not knowing what to expect and was pleasantly surprised. I didn't understand the lyrics, but was impressed by the instrumentals and vocals.
I wanted to like this but the first couple of songs weren't for me. It started getting good from "You and Whose Army?" but not great. The album overall felt incomplete. I think a couple of songs will grow on me with time.
Just seconds into the first song, I knew immediately I would love this album. Loved the vibe and vocals. Very well done.
Beautiful vocals but the album didn't excite me until the last couple of songs. "Raised on Robbery" really woke the album up and was by far the best track.
I was expecting better. Some catchy hooks but mostly just noise at times.
Great, upbeat album. Loved the vocals and how well suited the different singing styles were to each song. Guitars and drums on this record were great
What a voice. What a performer. Wish I could've seen him live
I feel like this album will grow on me with time. There are some great songs on here, perfect for late night drives
Never heard of the band so I went into this not knowing what to expect. Wikipedia had the album listed as alternate dance, so I wasn't expecting to like it as much as I did. The singer has a unique voice and the music felt almost ethereal at times. They almost lost me at the first 7 minute (mostly instrumental) track ... Does any album really need two 7 minute long (again, mostly instrumental and repetitive) tracks?? Idk but I liked the second one better than the first for sure. Overall it was a great album
Feels like I've just entered the toilets at a fun African restaurant, and life is good
Voice like butter
Some really good songs on here. "Bombsite Boy" and "Gary Gilmore's Eyes" really stood out for me, and I'll likely revisit the album again for these songs. Some tracks felt like filler but maybe they'll grow on me
The first half of the album had me questioning why this record was chosen for this list. He saved in the second half.
Great live album. Great vocals.. I just don't think the 16 minute drum solo was needed though
I could listen to this all day
This album goes so hard
The music made for a chilled listening session, but the vocals were underwhelming at times, and didn't captivate my attention. "So Long, Marianne" was the best song on the album. I feel like I could've got more out of the album had I paid more attention to the lyrics, but for a first listen, I'd say 2/5.
Very chilled album. No fillers
The music itself was chill but it was hard to get past the lyrics which were mostly cringey. The vocals were boring at times which didn't help either
Nice, chilled, comforting sound, but didn't wow me
Instrumentals were great. "Are you ready eddy?" was a fun track to finish with
Unique sound and great debut. Some songs didn't connect with me but I think they'll grow on me with time
I loved every track on this record. It didn't disappoint. The guitar and drums were insane
Good lighthearted album. Really enjoyed some of the slower songs
Instruments were all insane. I just couldn't get past the vocals. Seemed annoying at times
The songs didn't resonate with me at first. Tracks like Cheree felt like they were on the verge of something great but didn't quite get there. The lyrics were odd, and seemed almost improvised. I decided to listen again to see if I was missing something. I preferred it the second time around and was more aware of the influences drawn from this record that were present in albums by other musicians. For that reason, I'll give it a 3
Classic synth pop at its finest. I feel like this would've been groundbreaking at the time of release
Great album. Loved the guitars. It's just a shame reading the reviews is how I found out Eric Clapton is/was a racist :/
Great album, full of energy, but the vocals came across exaggerated and pretentious at times
The guitars were sick. I loved every track. Technically an EP so it shouldn't be on this list but glad I was introduced to this record and band
My friend's a fan so I went into this expecting it to be good. I had only heard Our House prior to this and found the the other tracks were a fun listen, although borderline racist?
Music was good but felt like the songs dragged on here and there
Creating a song game made up of tape loops of studio recording errors is genius. The songs are great, very diverse and I'll definitely be listening again
Sounds like they were drunk when they recorded this haha I liked the first half
There were parts of songs that I liked, but as a whole felt too long and sounded quite repetitive
Smooth voice and a lot of heart
Some of the subject matter was questionable but I liked the overall vibe
Good album but the songs started sounding the same after a while
The singles are timeless. It's the first time I've heard the rest of the album and loved it
Not something I would normally listen to. Their vocals compliment each other very well, and there's some good songs on here but I wouldn't consider it an album you must listen to before you die
Some of the songs are fun, but the vocals aren't all there. I wouldn't consider it a "must listen"
Alright this took me on a whole ride Track 1 - music for drinking wine to Track 2 - Trippy music that feels like you're in a colourful trance Track 3 - it's giving "drinking out of a coconut with an umbrella in it" vibes Track 4 - Feels like you're running but not getting anywhere
This is the second R.E.M. album I've heard from this list now. Great vocals and will definitely be relistening in the future
A little odd at times lyrically. Decent vocals but got boring
Feels like I'm right there in the jazz club with them, sat at the bar
The album artwork has not been executed well. The spacing is annoying me but aside from that.. there are some classics on this album, and it's clear that it influenced music that followed. Feel like I'm driving around listening to the radio on GTA San Andreas
Some good songs here and there but got boring very quickly
Fantastic album. I always struggled to get into Springsteen but this album did it for me. I'll definitely be relistening to this
Starting an album with news reports of your shooting is iconic
The soundtrack is so good it makes me want to watch the film
I didn't expect to like this as much as I did. This would be great for long drives
Great voice. Great album. Had a melancholy vibe to it
The Kinks are always a fun time and this album was no exception. Great, upbeat songs
So chilled but can't see myself playing it again
Unique voice and good vibes, but the songs felt a bit too long
Nothing groundbreaking, but it's a good listen
The teenage angst in me will always love songs like these
Such a fun album
I just couldn't get into it. It was good at times but each song was too long
Good album but it started to sound the same a couple songs in. The last song was a nice change
Refreshing album that I know will grow on me with more listens
Love the wailing guitars on this record
Did I need to hear this album before I died? No. Did I like it anyway? Yes. This feels like perfect background music
The best song on the album was Psycho Killer. I didn't think the rest of the songs weren't as good unfortunately
Where has this album been all my life
Fun, feel good album
Not a record I would normally listen to, but I quite liked it
It doesn't matter how old or new a song is.. something about Anthony Kiedis' voice is just so nostalgic
Scottish reggae...something about this just works
There's definitely a couple songs on here that I see myself returning to. Really nailed that slow, chilled mood
I couldn't get into Zeppelin years ago so I've never really given them a chance until now. There's some great songs on this record that I'll be returning to for sure
Everything Brian Wilson touches turns to gold
Beautifully dark but feels repetitive at times as the songs start to sound the same
Very calming. I could listen to this guy sing the alphabet and not get bored
Started off well but track 3 came out of nowhere and changed the sound. I'm just not a fan of electronic music
I liked the guitars but not much else
Good, lighthearted album
First time listening to this album and something about it already feels so timeless. His voice sounds so smooth on this record and makes for easy listening
There's something very calming about this
Beautiful, captivating voice. Perfect for 60s music
Love the old skool flow
Music was alright, but the vocals felt amateur
This feels like if a villain Cartoon Network band made a halloween album
Not for me. Feels like I'm summoning a demon while listening to this
His voice was made for this kind of music
Good album but I feel like it's missing something that makes other 60s song special
Great album, great vocals. Really fun
Great, fun background music
I feel like this needs a second listen where I can take it all in properly. First thoughts though... Great, chilled vibe
This sounds like a bunch of guys coming together to make music for the first time, having fun and not taking themselves too seriously. I liked it
Sounds like the same song throughout. It was okay but I probably won't listen to it again
Some great songs on here. Love the closer
Great late night listening. I could've listened to another hour of this
Good album, just a little too long
Feels euphoric
Liked this more than I thought I would. Fun, upbeat album. The vocals are a bit whiny at times but the choruses save it
The guitars just rip through your soul on this one
Track 2 and 3 are perfect for moments when you just want to be sad and think
The guitars on this record are insane
I enjoyed it but some songs were a bit too odd for my liking
Good album, but it quickly becomes very repetitive. I think the overall sound would've made more of an impact had they shortened the album tracks
I just couldn't get into this. Some songs felt like a draft
Great album. I think I'd enjoy it even more after another listen
Great, chilled music, and nice harmonies
Good album but I can't see myself listening to it again
I already knew Hendrix was great, but listening to this has made me a fan
Timeless. I had to double check the date on this because it could've easily been made in recent years. The music sounds so modern. Great record
The studio tracks are great but this unplugged version adds a new layer of rawness to them
I really enjoyed this. The vocals were so different from track to track that it felt like a mix of styles that were meant for seperate records at times
I liked parts of songs here and there, but overall they were too long. I know that's typical with this genre but i just wasn't a fan
Not usually my type of music but the guitar was sick on this
Good album but i felt like it was missing some of that magic that makes an album worth "listening to before you die"
Nothing groundbreaking, but a fun record
This sounds like if Roger Daltrey had continued with the sound from The Who's My Generation album
Good but not great... I'm the wrong audience for this
Some songs are longer than necessary, but other than that it was pretty good
Such a chilled vibe and I'm looking forward to listening to it again some time
My initial impression was that the song titles were long and pretentious. I wasn't expecting to like this, but there's something so fun yet peaceful and calming about the songs on this record. I thought it would drag when I saw the length and number of songs, but it didn't feel like an hour at all. Its hard to think of songs that stood out after the first listen but I'm sure this will change over time
Oooooh shit. The guitar on this slaps. Am I a Sabbath fan now? I guess so
Looking forward to a second listen where I can listen to it more closely. Love the energy and rebellion on this record
Love the bluesy classic rock vibe. Didn't like certain parts where the tempo would change but overall a great album
I just know me 5 years ago would've loved this. The music (drums and vocals in particular) were so hard hitting
I feel like I just stepped back in time
Every song sounds the same but in a different font. Overall great album though
This is one of those albums I wish I heard when I was younger
I love how vocals sound so raw in country music. It really makes you believe the words being said. Overall this was a great album. The only thing I'd change is the length. I liked that the 2nd part was mostly instrumentals but again, it could've been shorter. It's impressive that the songs were all recorded in 1 or 2 takes
Great, easy listen
Love the similarly named song titles on side one. I liked the vibe of the album (very cowboy-esque) but it wasn't very interesting overall, which is a shame because the vocals were great and had potential
In The End still sounds as good as it did all those years ago
Great album, and I know it will only get better the more I play it
It all sounded the same after a while. Some good parts here and there but I just couldn't get into it
I didn't get it at first, but the more I listened the more fun it got I guess?
Surprised by how much I enjoyed this. Great, fun record
I went into this only knowing one or two songs but was quickly won over. This is a 5/5 record for sure
Loud, catchy and fun
Started off well but declined with every song. It had potential but it just wasn't interesting enough to me
This album embodies everything I love about blues/rock n roll. This was my first time listening and I can't wait to listen to more Stones albums
I'm not usually a fan of this genre, but I liked some parts here and there. I can't see myself listening to the album again in full but might return to a song or two in the future
Didn't understand a single word...but I get it
What a voice...the kind you could listen to sing the phone book and it would still sound great
Such an incredible/warm voice. I'll be listening to this again for sure
Great collection of songs, but at times it felt like they didn't flow well together
Good but each song just feels too long
The songs all sound the same, but hey it works. Normally that kind of thing would get boring but I'm not even mad. The guitar and vocals are sick
Some of these songs just drag onnn
Good but in a weird way
Great story behind the performance
Great album with some filler
Oddly.. refreshing?
This is one of those albums that instantly takes me back to the first time I heard it and how moving it was
Brian Eno wasn't wrong about this...
Great album overall, but I think this is the first time I've listened to it and noticed how out of place some songs are considering the album concept
I get the vision but it kinda falls flat because of the vocals. The music itself was great, but the vocals just werent
This seems like a couple of friends got together to make an album for fun and accidentally ended up on the "1001 albums to listen to before you die" list. It's great and a whole lot of nothing all at the same time. The lead singer has a great voice
