Popular Reviews

Greetings From L.A. by Tim Buckley

"Like most of his other albums, Greetings from L.A. did not sell well" Wow. Hard to imagine.

Nixon by Lambchop

Vocalist Kurt Wagner has a song with Morcheeba called What New York Couples Fight About. If you like this, listen to that, too.

Dusty In Memphis by Dusty Springfield

Son of a Preacher Man is the Running Up That Hill revival of the 90s.

Bossanova by Pixies

This album makes me hate the Pixies

Pink Moon by Nick Drake
Feb 24 2026

Pink Moon th song, yes. Pink Moon the album, no. I just wanted it to end.

Tommy by The Who
Feb 26 2026

Too long. I live the musical and this isn't as compelling, but there's a lot of great stuff here. Definitely worth a listen and it's legend status

Aladdin Sane by David Bowie
Feb 27 2026

This sounds like the 70s in the worst ways. The piano on the second track made my ears cry.

Neon Bible by Arcade Fire
Mar 03 2026

More stomp, clamp, hey than I expected

Mar 04 2026

Bloated. I feel like Speakerboxx is better with age and The Love Below is worse. The idea that we let Andre 3000 get away with those abysmal lyrics!

Appetite For Destruction by Guns N' Roses
Mar 05 2026

The hits are bangers but the rest feels samey and, honestly, pretty immature. I thought this might blow my mind as an overlooked germ, but I think I paid it the right amount of attention at the time.

Violator by Depeche Mode
Mar 07 2026

This is great. Admittedly, it sounds dated in parts, but the non-singles don't feel like filler. I probably won't listen again, but I appreciate it

GREY Area by Little Simz
Mar 08 2026

This doesn't feel interesting or important.

Street Signs by Ozomatli
Mar 09 2026

Mexican hip.hop jazz fusion. Ok.

Hard Again by Muddy Waters
Mar 12 2026

Hoo boy. This sounds like high quality blues, but it didn't make me hate blues music any less. This probably deserves 5 stars for quality, but I really hate it

Mar 17 2026

If it want for motherfucker and motherfuckin' there would only be beats

Live! by Fela Kuti
Mar 18 2026

Cool, but too much jam band energy

Fever To Tell by Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Mar 20 2026

4 stars for Maps, but I have to agree with Angie's take on this: "It's screamy"

London Calling by The Clash
Mar 21 2026

I don't get the love for the Clash. Were they just the most pop punks at the time? I like some of the songs, but it's not for me overall.

Henry's Dream by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
Mar 22 2026

Like Elvis if he were bad

Seventh Tree by Goldfrapp
Mar 23 2026

I wish this was a different, better Goldfrapp album

Electric Warrior by T. Rex
Mar 24 2026

Better than I expected. I like the horns

Joan Baez by Joan Baez
Mar 26 2026

Beautiful voice, but terrible songs

Rattlesnakes by Lloyd Cole And The Commotions
Mar 30 2026

Nice 90s vibe, but top 1001? I'd listen again

Licensed To Ill by Beastie Boys
Mar 31 2026

I'm more of a Hello, Nasty fan

S&M by Metallica
Apr 01 2026

If Metallica had no haters, I'm dead

Ramones by Ramones
Apr 02 2026

It's the Ramones. At least it's short

White Light by Gene Clark
Apr 03 2026

A really solid surprise.

Beggars Banquet by The Rolling Stones
Apr 04 2026

This is a lot more honky tonk than I expected. Spotify Auto played some TRex after this was over and that was better, so I can only give this two stars - and those stars are all earned by Sympathy for the Devil.

War by U2
Apr 05 2026

Solid

The Sounds Of India by Ravi Shankar
Apr 09 2026

I appreciate that he was trying to teach me about the music.

Band On The Run by Paul McCartney and Wings
Apr 10 2026

At its best when it sounds less like the Beatles

GI by Germs
Apr 12 2026

Music expresses the range of human emotions. Sometimes the emotion is screaming.

Green River by Creedence Clearwater Revival
Apr 13 2026

Ok, but it all sounds like Bad Moon Rising

Apr 14 2026

I'm supposed to get high and listen to THIS while I watch the Wizard of Oz? Crazy

Smokers Delight by Nightmares On Wax
Apr 15 2026

Great Trip hop representation

Rust Never Sleeps by Neil Young & Crazy Horse
Apr 16 2026

It's a Neil Young album. No surprises here.

Brilliant Corners by Thelonious Monk
Apr 18 2026

Keeping high school jazz bands in business since 1957

The Message by Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five
Apr 19 2026

More interesting than I expected. I'm most familiar with The Message (the song) which feels pretty dated in 2026. It's easy to see how it's foundational, but I expected it all to feel as dated as The Message (the song). It isn't. With some exceptions. There's a lot to like here and not just in a nostalgic way.

Live At Leeds by The Who
Apr 21 2026

This is not a serious band. Now I'm older, I'm tattooed all over My wife is tattooed, too A-rooty-doot-toot, rooty-tooty-toot-toot Rooty-tootle-tootle tattoo, too

Rid Of Me by PJ Harvey
Apr 24 2026

PJ Harvey has better albums

Graceland by Paul Simon
Apr 25 2026

This album sounds great with headphones on

Floodland by Sisters Of Mercy
Apr 26 2026

The most dramatic new wave I've ever heard. This was a welcome surprise.

Hot Buttered Soul by Isaac Hayes
Apr 27 2026

Classic, but loses a star because each song is juuuuust a bit too long

Jazz Samba by Stan Getz
May 02 2026

Light and enjoyable

Bug by Dinosaur Jr.
May 04 2026

Started meh and just got worse until I turned it off. My first non-finish in my 1001 albums journey. I decided I don't have to listen to everything.

Vol. 4 by Black Sabbath
May 05 2026

I debated skipping this album. I have a bias against Black Sabbath based on who I think their audience is and certain expectations of what this would sound like. I'm glad I listened. This is much more musical and stylistically diverse than I was prepared for. This is a great album and well worth the time. More guitar heavy than I would prefer, but honestly an enjoyable surprise.

May 07 2026

...but if you can get past the misogyny, homophobia, and graphic violence...

Darkness on the Edge of Town by Bruce Springsteen
May 08 2026

"I've been working real hard tryin' to get my ass clean." - Bruce Springsteen in Prove it All Night as heard by me Turns out he's actually trying to get his HANDS clean. Good, because I was like it shouldn't be that hard, man.

Document by R.E.M.
May 09 2026

I'm more of a post-Automatic for the People guy, but R.E.M. is undeniable

Ágætis Byrjun by Sigur Rós
May 10 2026

The problem with Sigur Ros isn't that the music isn't good, it's that I don't know when I would listen to it. I don't think I live a down tempo electronic atmospheric life. Maybe I'm more of a sad trombone instrumental

White Light / White Heat by The Velvet Underground
May 11 2026

Purposefully ugly and unpleasant. An extra star for the undeniable influence on grunge.

Bad by Michael Jackson
May 12 2026

The first half of this album is literally bad The second half of figuratively bad. If it wasn't a single, it's yeah (also Bad).

Arular by M.I.A.
May 14 2026
Surf's Up by The Beach Boys
May 15 2026

This album confused me. I had to listen to it a few times, but I like it? The Beach Boy harmonies, but not the Beach Boy sound I've come to expect.

Surfer Rosa by Pixies
May 16 2026

I think this is too early in the Pixies discography for me. Too raw.

Talk Talk Talk by The Psychedelic Furs
May 17 2026

After the album finished, Spotify played better later-era Psychedelic Furs songs. I say, skip this one and start later in the discography.

Greetings From L.A. by Tim Buckley
May 18 2026

"Like most of his other albums, Greetings from L.A. did not sell well" Wow. Hard to imagine.

Talking Heads 77 by Talking Heads
May 19 2026

Not every album needs to be in this list. Speaking in Tongues, sure. Little Creatures, yes. Talking Heads 77, no, not really.

Funeral by Arcade Fire
May 20 2026

Meh

Sex Packets by Digital Underground
May 24 2026

Guaranteed this is the only album on the list with lyrics about having sex in a Burger King bathroom.

World Clique by Deee-Lite
May 29 2026

So many of the albums I've listened to from the list have been punk or some form of rock, maybe a little rap. This felt like a breathe of fresh air. Deee-Lite are amazing

Parklife by Blur
May 30 2026

My brit pop awakening

Guero by Beck
May 31 2026
Let Love Rule by Lenny Kravitz
Jun 01 2026

No single song is terrible, but listening to them all together highlights how empty they sound

The Gilded Palace Of Sin by The Flying Burrito Brothers
Jun 03 2026

Never heard of the Brothers, but this is great early 70s country rock

Hot Rats by Frank Zappa
Jun 05 2026

Hot trash

Melodrama by Lorde
Jun 06 2026

All of her albums are 5 stars - except Solar Power which is, of course, trash

Suede by Suede
Jun 08 2026
Under Construction by Missy Elliott
Jun 10 2026

Every song is a banger. Regnab a si gnos yreve

Nixon by Lambchop
Jun 11 2026

Vocalist Kurt Wagner has a song with Morcheeba called What New York Couples Fight About. If you like this, listen to that, too.

B-52's by The B-52's
Jun 12 2026

Timeless and so cool

Jun 14 2026

Boo to this screaming

Led Zeppelin by Led Zeppelin
Jun 15 2026

If I were w guitar guy, I guess this would be my Valhalla

First Band On The Moon by The Cardigans
Jun 16 2026

This is probably how Boomers feel when they see a Led Zeppelin album on the list.

Shake Your Money Maker by The Black Crowes
Jun 18 2026

Better than I thought it would be. Accessible southern blues rock sort of business

Nebraska by Bruce Springsteen
Jun 19 2026

The Boss is sad :-(

Deja Vu by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young
Jun 21 2026

Deja vu indeed

Highly Evolved by The Vines
Jun 22 2026

If you like white men screaming, then you're in luck! And this time they're from Australia!

Raising Hell by Run-D.M.C.
Jun 23 2026

Some high highs (It's Tricky) and some low lows (Dumb Girl)

Dusty In Memphis by Dusty Springfield
Jun 24 2026

Son of a Preacher Man is the Running Up That Hill revival of the 90s.

Hail To the Thief by Radiohead
Jun 25 2026

Wait... is Radiohead a good band? This is the first I'm hearing about this...I should tell people.

Felt Mountain by Goldfrapp
Jun 26 2026

This is the wrong Goldfrapp album

At Fillmore East by The Allman Brothers Band
Jun 27 2026

Another blues rock jam band from the '70s? Please, sir, I'd like some less

Peter Gabriel 3 by Peter Gabriel
Jun 28 2026

Obviously great, but I'm pretty basic. I just want to hear Sledgehammer.

Entertainment by Gang Of Four
Jun 29 2026

Punk without the screaming

The Stranger by Billy Joel
Jun 30 2026

Every other song is classic

Bossanova by Pixies
Jul 02 2026

This album makes me hate the Pixies

Viva Hate by Morrissey
Jul 03 2026

I'm waiting for you to be great

Songs In The Key Of Life by Stevie Wonder
Jul 04 2026

I think everyone loves this album, but it's just not for me. Sorry, Stevie

Maverick A Strike by Finley Quaye
Jul 05 2026

This is fine. I'm not sure I needed to hear it before I die, though.

Tusk by Fleetwood Mac
Jul 06 2026
Smash by The Offspring
Jul 07 2026

This album is great. Punk with enough alt rock influence to be listenable and enjoyable

Don't Stand Me Down by Dexys Midnight Runners
Jul 09 2026

This must be the album they added to get over 1,000.

Exodus by Bob Marley & The Wailers
Jul 11 2026
Black Monk Time by The Monks
Jul 12 2026

I watched a YouTube video on this band which explained the significance of the album and the band, but I still can't decide if it's any good. There's something here, but I mostly hear noodling on a psychedelic organ

Urban Hymns by The Verve
Jul 14 2026

So many great songs on this album

Kala by M.I.A.
Jul 16 2026

I don't know what MIA is up to these days, but she was producing bangers back on the day

Zombie by Fela Kuti
Jul 17 2026

Not for me

Frank by Amy Winehouse
Jul 23 2026

I get why this is here, but I mostly wish I was listening to Back in Black

Bitches Brew by Miles Davis
Jul 24 2026

Didn't make me like jazz

Marquee Moon by Television
Jul 28 2026

I hated everything about this

Californication by Red Hot Chili Peppers
Aug 02 2026

Back in 2020, Scott Aukerman and Adam Scott made one episode of a podcast to discuss RHCP's discography before switching to a different band. They chose Talking Heads, but really any band would do.

California by American Music Club
Aug 03 2026

Reminds me of emmet swimming. You should listen to emmet swimming.

The White Album by Beatles
Aug 04 2026

Edit this down to a single album and I think you've got something. There's too much nonsense to sift through here.

Achtung Baby by U2
Aug 05 2026

90s U2 is peak U2. Or maybe I'm just giving my age away. 5 stars either way

1984 by Van Halen
