Great mix of musical styles; several radio favorites
I liked half of the album
One of REM’s finest
Pretty good overall; but don’t care for “Hello”
I like jazz, but this didn’t connect with me. Sorry, Miles.
“The Emperor’s New Clothes” is the best song on the album. “Nothing Compares” was killed by radio overplay. I can’t get through the last song, “I Do Not Want” … Her first album (The Lion and the Cobra) was a favorite; this, not so much.
I am so glad I got to hear this. Didn’t know about this artist. Good stuff. There are so many contemporary singers that have his style. Sad we lost him so young.
First time I’ve heard these songs; missed this when it came out, very raw and punky. Recognized some styles used in songs that followed.
This takes me back… I don’t like “Black Hole Sun,” but really enjoy “Spoonman.”
I’m disappointed that my local independent alternative radio station didn’t play this back in the day.
Heard this album a few years back and the story of how it came to be. Really enjoyed it. He’s a real “piano man”!
Fantastic. Love these songs.
What a rush! College days flash back. Love this album.
Hadn’t heard this before. Too bad, because I really liked it. So it’s a good thing… I will listen again!
Tracey has a great voice but the songs were just so-so for me. I prefer EBTG’s later album “Amplified Heart”.
Beck might not be for everyone, but I LIKED EVERY TRACK on this album! I will be listening to it again and again.
Maybe I just don’t get it, but this didn’t connect with me at all. Won’t listen again.
Good stuff! Even the spouse loved it.
Glad to have heard the songs they don’t play on the radio. Good stuff.
Different from her Til Tuesday music but I liked it, and the variety. She has a great voice.
The album wasn’t as bad as I expected; technically and musically it’s well-done. But Morrissey’s voice and lyrics don’t connect in any way with me. It’s not something I will listen to again.
I will always think of Baba O’Riley as the video game theme song. Great stuff.
Never listened to Metallica before. Now I have. That’s all I need. Never again. Sorry.
Been a fan of Supertramp since Breakfast in America but hadn’t listened to this in its entirety. Liked it a lot.
Legendary. Almost felt like a greatest hits compilation.
I’m not a fan of this kind of explicit music; and wouldn’t have listened to it otherwise. The language and messages are extremely offensive and violent. Wondering why it’s on the list.
Fun! Liked this.
Wow. This sounds so much like Soul Coughing. But not as good. Made me go back and listen to that band.
First I’ve heard of them; catchy! Enjoyed it.
Almost every song has been on the radio. Classic rock for sure.
Haven’t heard of this before; nice. Smooth jazz with some disco era influences.
Another album I missed when it came out. (I blame my local radios for not playing it.) Enjoyed it.
Fun! An important part of music history, but it got a little repetitive.
The only song on the album I liked was the last one, “Would.” But I remembered liking them before… lt made me look up their “Jar of Flies” EP, which was a favorite back in the day.
Ugh. Not my cup of tea, but I listened to it for the first time. Wasn’t as bad as I expected. Interesting part of music history.
Enjoyed this. Another example of radio failing me; should have heard these songs on the alternative station when it came out!
Had forgotten about this album. It was good to hear it again.
This album’s title and cover art doesn’t lead the listener very well to understand the music. I liked the songs but not the strange name and weird photo. “Don’t judge a book by its cover.”
It’s been awhile. They were definitely channeling the Beatles. And I had forgotten how much this album rocks!
Don’t hate ‘em, but don’t love ‘em either.
Legendary.
Three great singles that got radio airplay and put Blondie on the map. The rest of the album was just okay.
Never really could figure out this band. But it was a fun throwback.
Something for the super fans. (The spoken introductions were unique for the typical concert recording)
Kate made a perfect album. The more I listen, the more I love it. (And for the uninitiated who only know “Running up that hill,” you are in for a treat.)
I remember this band from before, but can’t find a song I liked on the album.
Heard of it before but hadn’t heard it. Interesting.
I’ve heard of this rapper but never listened before. The sad part is, the music is pretty good. But the lyrics are so obscene that most people will never hear it. (Here’s a thought, if you don’t want people using the N-word, don’t sing it.)
I wish my DuoLingo lessons had these words! I enjoyed the Latin music styles, even though I couldn’t understand the lyrics.
Heard of him, but never heard this. Interesting.
Ahh… lots of jazz records are on the list…
Stuff of legends. Hadn’t heard the whole thing before. Some better than the others but I enjoyed it
Never heard of these rappers, but enjoyed it. Reminds me of the Fresh Prince and MC 900 Ft Jesus.
Defined a decade. Takes me back. Got a little overplayed but still good stuff.
Hadn’t listened before. Interesting stuff. It’s not something for the background, you have to pay attention.
First thought was “ugh,” but I listened for the first time and it wasn’t as bad as I expected. But that cover art is UUUGGGLLY.
Funny to think this came out in the middle of the disco fad! Great stuff!
Full of hits. Didn’t realize it was a double album. Fun!
Better than I expected.
Just so-so for me.
Excellent. It was part of my record collection when it came out. Wonder what someone who heard it for the first time would think?
Ah, punk.
What an interesting mix.
Gotta love the “other Elvis!” Heard the singles on the radio; the rest of the album was entertaining.
Not bad, not bad at all. And perfect for “Weird Al” Yankovic to parody…
The only thing I didn’t really like was the cover art.
Love the hit single. Wish I loved the rest as much.
Missed this one; interesting mix.
Categorized as rock? Nah, maybe pop or adult alternative. Similar to Paula Cole, Sarah McLachlan or Sinead O’Connor. Enjoyed it.
Fun. Catchy. I heard styles that had influenced later music (i.e., TV theme songs).
The description in Apple Music made this sound like some amazing, groundbreaking work but I couldn’t say the same thing. It was a confusing mess. Makes me wonder what they were thinking when they recorded it…“Hey, let’s all play at the same time and out of tune and call it hip!”
Interesting, lovely voice, but I got bored with it. All the songs sounded the same. Sorry, Billie.
Haha… Black Sabbath on the Sabbath! Funny how this album has become commonplace in modern society. (Even my better half was enjoying it.)
Another good one from R.E.M.
I knew of Sparks from the ‘80s, but not this. Got the ‘70s sound.
What a fun concert recording, wrapped up with an epic drum solo!
Disco and UFOs? Of course!
Hmm. This was played on the local alternative station when it came out even though it was classified as “hard rock.” The singles got a lot of airplay, but I never bought the album.
Another perfect album from Kate. Listened twice yesterday. How can you not love it?
Good stuff; it’s when this alternative band became mainstream (but this is the third REM album that has come up for me in the list… wonder about the random-ness of the generator)
Another Neil Young album; didn’t connect with me this time. (Continue to wonder about the random generator, why it seems to repeat artists?)
Good variety. Classic.
So, he must have been going through his Dylan or Johnny Cash phase… but frankly, he should have skipped it. I thought it was pretty dull.
I know this is an important album but I didn’t like it much.
Never heard of this before. Interesting mix. Especially liked “Grey/Afro”
Great songs. Good to hear it again.
I like The Doors well enough, but this is the third time I’ve gotten one of their albums in the short time I’ve been listening… Not very random…
Heard of this group but never listened before. Interesting.
Wow. An album from during the pandemic? Very different from her other music. But another example of an ugly album cover.
Four of the 12 songs got airplay but the rest of the album was just so-so for me. An odd mix of styles.
Brilliant. Cool to hear Mr. Cash sing different songs. Loved it.
Even listening to the “clean version” was torture. Definitely not my style. Zero stars.
What an amazing voice. Listened twice. Loved it.
Loved half of the album; didn’t care for his ballads.
Knew of this band but hadn’t heard this album. Did they borrow from the Beatles or was it the other way around? Or was it just the sound of the British Invasion?
Wow. John Lennon didn’t believe in much…
Fun! I enjoyed it. Music from the future back in the past.
Yes, thanks to Jethro Tull for not releasing an album when this came out. Otherwise, we wouldn’t be talking about it… Anyway, it’s not my style of music, but there were a couple of songs that I liked.
Only one song could have been played on the radio… or maybe it was one of those records that were played when the DJs needed a smoke break (which is probably why I hadn’t heard of them). But I liked it…
He’s culturally significant, and mimicked, but not really my thing.
Didn’t hate it. But just so-so for me.
The singer made me think of “Punk Rock Girl” by The Dead Milkmen.
It’s not in my record collection, but I pretty much know the whole album from the radio.
Ahh. Punk rock at its punkiest. I remember “TV Party” was played on Dr Demento back in the 80s, but didn’t know anything else…
Another album/band that I’m sorry I missed when it came out. Really enjoyed it!
Knew two songs from back in the day but hadn’t heard the rest. Not bad.
This is in my music collection. Half of the songs are great.
I had heard of this band but hadn’t heard the music. Interesting.
It’s weird listening to this after so many years and knowing how she would grow up.
I never really understood the idea of comparing Kennedy and Stalin in “Cult of Personality,” but the song rocked. The rest of the album reminds me of Fishbone.
Remembered from back in the day… did the Fresh Prince borrow from them or was it the other way around?
I liked the music, but Nico’s monotone voice was not my thing.
Another example of my local independent alternative radio station failing me; they didn’t play this when it came out. Excellent stuff!
Heard some songs on the radio but not the whole album. A true godfather of ska.
Blues at its best.
Catchy. Got that funky pop style.
A forgotten time capsule of the sound of the ‘60s.
