Reviews (page 8 of 8)

Still very blues infused but some really good songs on it

Good album.

Essential listening, because of what they became? A few of these covers stand out, I Just Want to..., Can I get a Witness, ...Make it if you try. Though even those I prefer the original on the first 2. You can tell which song is the Chuck Berry cover to the point where its kind of unnecessary. Funnily enough my favourite Stones cover of this era, Buddy Holly's 'Not Fade Away' isn't on this version. As good as the original. All that is judging it on listening now, I know this was all the rage in the early 60s and fair enough, but I'm listening now, so... And within 2 years we have Aftermath, which is an altogether different proposition, huge growth. Nowadays my main association with this record is that Chorlton record shop King Bee was named for one of these songs (although it was probably the original).

Pretty decent. I enjoyed much more than expected. Maybe it's just satisfaction I don't really enjoy as a stones song

Classic, old school rock. Didn't hear a song i disliked.

There is something insidious about this British Invasion boys becoming famous off of black music. That said this is fine/good

It was good, not bad but eh. The covers were nice it overall was a decent listen, just very bare bones

Historically significant because it launched their career, but it falls flat. I appreciate good covers, but these are mediocre covers. I have a friend who's been trying to get me to like the Stones for a long time (they're fine, but they stand out more to me for their longevity than anything) and even she agrees that this isn't a good gateway album. Ironically, the song I like most on the album is the one that Jagger/Richards actually wrote (Tell Me), so I guess there's hope. ;) I'm rating this a 3 because I love the blues, but honestly I'm not sure it's quite that good.

From the very beginning the Stones had a raw and decadent sound, the crude production adds rather subtracts. Sure it relies heavily on covers but that's just a reflection of those times. Easily the best of their early albums.

Dont get early rolling stones just covers man and not as good as orginals! They are kike the english elvis!

Good to hear the formative stuff before the band developed into the familiar, but a bit dull

I really enjoyed this album. Proper old school.

I can't help but think of that scene in Spinal Tap, as a skiffle band, The Thamesmen. Those slightly embarrassing early years. 2.5

Five British kids showing R&B some respect and ushering in multiple pop music movements in general. Whodathunkit!? I wish I didn't have to overlook Phil Spector's involvement to appreciate it.

It's a demo tape where they play R&B tunes from other folks. You can hear what they're going to be, but they're not breaking new ground yet. Best track: Walking the Dog

It's just weird that back in the 60s so many bands' first albums were just cover tunes. 3 stars.

that was easily the best rolling stones album we've had. which is weird because it's basically a covers album.

A blunt punch in the front bottom. The Rolling Stones are the only group of men I would let loose on my mother. She's gagging for it, the slag.

Episode 15: Scott meets up with Zeb in Thailand. The two of them go out hunting for lady boy fun.

Innecesario de escuchar. Nada destacable.

Rating: 7/10 Best songs: I just wanna make love to you, Can I get a witness

It's fun early 60's British Invasion R&B, but nothing really special.

This is very cool 60s debut from the Rolling Stones. It's packed with covers though aside from one original track, I don't love this but it was standard in the 60s. One thing I cannot understand is why they put Now I've Got a Witness before Can I Get a Witness??? Haha! Is it just to make people think about their album more? I Just Want to Make Love to You is obviously a banger to the max and I love their version of it in fact I now don't know if I even know a different/original version of that song. The instrumental moments are excellent it's so tight and crisp and I want to dance. Good fun!

Sometimes this albums thing is a matter of learning where songs I know come from, and also what music really really famous bands actually make. I thought the rolling stones did totally different music, but I did know one or two of the songs. Had a bit of a dance, enjoyed it!

An early classic - I kind of like the innocence of this album, its definitely more youthful than later stuff. A great array of originals and covers, bluesy and rocky numbers. Can imagine this was so exciting in 1964 when released!

I loved this. I don't think I've listened to their early stuff much to be honest and this was just really fun

Beginnings of a great bad

Eh, I'm not much on this album, but the blues tracks they cover are pretty dope.

Excellent

Vinilo.
