Not as good as their first album but dammit what is

This is... fine?

Good album, energetic, echoey vocals, los angeles mentioned a few times. Love it

Hell ya, this is my kind of angst. Anger at the man, encouraging petty theft, environmentalism, anti-racism, references to the Los Angeles area, and deep lyrics about addiction and loss. It's exactly my style.

If you’re going to commit, then commit! Do the whole thing in Spanish!

Loved this as a younger man! I thought I'd like it as much as a slightly less younger man.

There are some classic songs on here like 'Been Caught Stealing' and 'Stop' which are great songs, but I had never listened to the 2nd half of the album before it it's just great. It really shows the range of the band and the songs have a lot of emotional in them even though they're slower.

First half of the album really shines. But the second half really lacks. Heard this album a few times and my opinion on it hasn’t really changed at all. Been caught stealing is still overrated

Overall: 6/10 Honestly, I hate Perry Farrell's whiney ass voice and also everything else about him! Dave Navarro is cool and so are the other members who's names I don't know. This album is kind of bloated and I didn't really need multiple long ass Jane's Addiction songs. Fav Song: Stop!

I firstly want to call out how well this is recorded.  It's great sound isolation (love the drum sound) and compelled me to want to listen more despite being pretty unaware of the band.  I vaguely know some songs but 100% a first listen album wise. Now the music.  I like the sound but not the style (in the first half mainly).  The vocals and polished frenzy do sound a little childish somehow.  There is grit but the first half of the album is more high dose glamor. Second half things completely change for the better.  "Three days" puts the brakes on and has a heavy bassline and includes off key vocals.  Less youthful brat fest.  "Then she did..." - Like the eerie noises and darkness.  Lots of change of pace in the second half and more alternative off key sounds and instrument drop ins.  As a bridge between 80s glamor and 90s alternative, it's a pretty dense album covering a lot of bases. The first half is a very average 3.  Second half is a 4 and I will give it a 4 on weight of the great sound recording. Snuck it.

overstayed it's welcome for me. (2.5/5.0)

Been caught stealing is great. Quite enjoyable but a bit heavy for me these days.

Capturing the electricity of this bands live performances on a record was always the challenge. They certainly seemed to figure that out well but this, their second studio album.

I remember these from the 90s. Never really got into them but they were 'adjacent' to the bands I listened to. Unique definitely. OK for a party I suppose

Janes addiction? More like Janes Fartdiction

Lot of whinge bag reviews of this classic. Easy five star album. Saw them live and they didn't disappoint.

A couple of classics, but another band/album where I just canNOT vibe with the singer’s voice/delivery whatsoever.

I've been getting quite a bit of alternative rock/ 90s guitar stuff lately, and normally that would be fine as it's what I grew up listening to. It's interesting how much what you've listened to on this project recently influences how you respond to things, as at this point I would really like to be given some hip hop or soul just for a change of pace. If I had got this album without the recent steady diet of scratchy guitar I would probably have enjoyed this more. To begin with Perry's singing and Navarro's shredding really weren't doing anything for me and I was kind of wishing it would be over quicker. Then we get Been Caught Stealing which I can't deny is awesome and Three Days straight after which is a sprawling epic centrepiece to the album. The previous metal adjacent workouts are immediately forgiven. Overall, it's a 7 out of 10 for me because aside from w couple of great songs I didn't really enjoy it. If I hadn't had so much similar stuff recently it might make it up to a 4, but in my current mood it's a 3. Also, I was at primary school when this came out, so just a few years too early to be a Janes fan. It doesn't therefore hold a nostalgic thrill for me like, say, Weezer's Blue album or Laid by James.

Not what I was expecting at all. Pretty warm-to-lukewarm on this. Best Song: Been Caught Stealing Rating: 6/10 Stars: 3

2/5. I guess it’s a little interesting that this album (and the groups 1988 debut) were early to the alternative rock scene that would go on to blow up in the 90’s, but beyond that fact and the fun single “been caught stealing”, this album just doesn’t offer much of interest in my opinion. It works in two halves with the first five songs being more standard rock cuts which are fine I guess. and the back half being longer, more conceptually focused tracks. But the longer tracks don’t really develop in any interesting ways and don’t have strong enough lyricism to carry them on a story front so they really drag. I am personally not addicted to Jane’s Addiction.

Some interesting thing happening here but the vocals… they weren’t doing it for me.

Eh, OK but not great. 2/5

I really liked two songs on this album: Stop! And caught stealing I had heard before they are fun and unique , the rest of it felt too chaotic and the singers voice started to get to me. It feels strained, and out of tune.

grating to listen to. they're like Van Halen with David Lee Roth or Guns n' Roses but much much worse. at least Guns n' Roses is listenable

Been Caught Stealing

Well I find Perry Farrell to be narcasistic and annoying, I actually don't mind some janes addiction. While they are not really technically great at anything the lyrics, and songs come together to be more then the sum of the parts, which is a tricky thing.

Very few albums in history start off as strong as this one, with rippers "Stop!", "No One's Leaving", and one of the greatest songs ever "Ain't No Right". All the songwriting is very strong, and the album is arranged perfectly.

Day 53 We left sex and drugs in the hippie era, not sure if these guys got the memo Fav track: Then She Did

From what I can tell, Jane's Addiction managed one great song, the classic & superb 'Jane Says.' Beyond that, I guess I don't hear what all the fuss is 'bout. Ritual De Lo Habitual continues to combine the heavy hardness of Led Zeppelin w/ the apparent fun-loving-&-goof-off sentiments of another overvalued LA act, the talent-waste of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. B/c I've always loved Zeppelin & have considered the Chili Peppers to be annoying, Jane's Addiction is somewhere in the middle for me in terms of how I feel 'bout them, tho I do lean towards the negative. 'Been Caught Stealing' is a good single, tho it impresses less upon further listens. 'Then She Said' is the best track on the album. I'm yet still underwhelmed in the generalities.

pooooo

The problem with a rock band having a singer with a very distinctive voice is that no matter how much the band’s sound varies from song to song, the listener can still end up feeling like all the songs sound the same because they all prominently feature whiny high-pitched screeching. Jane’s Addiction was a pretty decent band - despite some late-80’s/early 90’s cliches (we’re going to get all quiet and menacing for a minute here in the middle of our hard rock song, isn’t that a surprising contrast, you’ll never guess what we’re about to do after that, it’ll blow your mind!) dating them - but Perry Farrell’s voice just doesn’t hit my ears right. It can work in small doses on their singles, but not too far into this album’s 51 minutes it has worn out its welcome.

Not really good

Nostalgic. Haven’t listened in a while and still a great album. 4.5.

nothing crazy, good vibes 2.5

Loved it!

I like the sound and energy.

Dull. Not for me.

Listened before? No Familiar with the artist? Not really, just know the name. Thoughts: - I didn't expect to like this as much as I did! I think I expected more generic rock. - The only song I'd heard before is Been Caught Stealing, and I do like that one, but the songs after it are much more interesting to me. Favorite track(s): Three Days

I usually appreciate a Jane's Addiction single like Stop or Been Caught Stealing, but I rarely listen beyond that. Musically, they're quite good at what they do. The guitar work and drums are great. The vocals get kind of whiny after a while when listening to the full thing. The first half of the album I really liked, the second half kind of dragged a little bit. Three Days is a solid song, but just too long. Everything after that was putting me to sleep. All in all it's a solid outing by them, if just a little too long in the tooth.

didn't really enjoy the whole thing and the second half of this album was a big miss, i think. their first studio album was way better

The drugs are strong with this one

Better than Coldplay

A bit RHCP, a bit Van Halen, a bit POTUS - i really cant decide if i like this or not.

Back to college. Good jams.

Pretty decent.

What's not to like (okay, I think Perry is a jerk and someone I would never want to meet. He's a pompous poof. That being said, this is a great album and certainly had a positive vibe for a generation. Certainly an iconic sound. A one-off, yes; but what a great wad to shoot! 5 "dancing in the aisles" stars.

There are some classics on here, and I really enjoyed them. But the rest just felt so-so. I am not sure there was enough good to outweigh the meh to push it to 4 star territory.

*1990. *I like this better than the early Jane's Addiction album. *Been Caught Stealing is the only song I knew. *California early 90s punk blended with a more rock/metal edge. *Listened a few times and didn't get bored of it, but also not much stood out. Just here for the vibes. RATING - 7/10

This album starts out strong with some interesting instrumentation but the sound is repetitions throughout the album. Some nice work on here though.

RATING: 9/10 HIGHLIGHT: Three Days LOWLIGHT: Obvious

Good start with a sleepy / confused second half

Wanted to like this more but it's carried by like 4 songs, been caught stealing is a banger though

Not really my thing, it feels a bit repetitive to me

Decent listen, but not something I’d return to.

Decent album. But Dave Navarro’s guitar playing can’t carry every track.

I mean it was ok then and ok now.

Pretty cool rock, not super my thing but there were some nice tracks

I like it when an album that I may have had preconceptions of takes me by surprise. First couple of songs I didn't enjoy too much - then all of a sudden there's a 5 song run between "Ain't No Right" and "Then She Did" that is incredible. I've heard a couple Jane's Addiction songs before but never given them a fair listen. The vocals can be a little off putting at times but some of the music is great. I wasn't expecting 10 minute and 8 minute songs and I loved them both. This is definitely a 4 star. Reasons it isn't a 5: Not all the songs landed Indifferent with the vocals

I’ve heard the album before, rather liked it. Especially Stop and Caucht Stealing. However, I’ve never really listened to it before now. And that made all the difference. Musicianship and songwriting on top, Farell’s divisive but brilliant vocals++. Three Days was the song that made the 5 for me

Pioneros, no cabe otra palabra.

There are some great ideas in this album, some pretty nice songs, and, still, I'm not in love with it. I feel there is a lot of inspiration in this record, just the delivery is not much of my taste. However, some great thing of this album is that it flows really well, so effortlessly natural. And it is pretty eclectic, to be honest, making it something particularly difficult in such a dense album. I must say I am impressed. I wasn't much into it from the first songs, but the second side of it is such a gem full of fantastic songs, fantastic sounds and ideas. And, as it evolves, it really goes somewhere, being much more than what it seems at first glance. The music is enigmatic and very catchy. It's really an album worth listening to.

I quite like this musically, it's a bit reminiscent of Faith No More's funk metal style on The Real Thing, maybe this is the sort of direction they might have gone in if they stuck to that. Dave Navarro is a pretty great guitar player, but I don't particularly like Perry Farrell's vocals. He sounds kind of weak and doesn't have enough power and often detracts more than it adds 3.5 Highlights: Three Days, Obvious

Great record. Knew some of their songs prior, but saved some new ones after listening to the whole album.

More fun, tuneful, and ambitious than their other album. Hard to get over how much the singer sounds like a sneering ten year old on a skateboard though.

A bit of a mess really. Not sure about this early stuff.

This was better than I expected from the couple of songs I knew before. Some interesting ideas.

This opens up like solid indie/grunge rock, and then meanders off towards the end. It's not bad, but I'm glad "Been Caught Stealing" is more than halfway through. The opening track, "Stop!" was unexpected, having only heard the hits from them. Good album, but not worth coming back for. My Rating: 3/5

3,5 stars

Nothing too interesting here. Plus, it's true that, as many say, the guy's voice is pretty annoying. Let's move on.

Heard a fair amount of modest mouse in this

I love JA. This album is good, but not nearly as good as Nothing’s Shocking.

3 out of 5. Good album for the most part, but some of the longer songs drag on.

++: Stop!, No One's Leaving, Obvious, Been Caught Stealing, Three Days, Of Course, Classic Girl +: Ain't No Right, Then She Did... 9,1/10

This is really a tale of two sides: with the first being short, catchy alt rock tracks that many know Jane's Addiction for, and the second being longer. more progressive rock-like tracks with some emotional subject matter. I can appreciate the songcraft, but JA has always been one of the oddball groups from this era of alt rock to me. Not the easiest to get into, I'll admit, but this is probably better than their debut album.

I dunno man, this isn't bad. They know what they're doing. I think it's me. I think I'm missing something. This makes sense to be successful, doesn't feel wildly commercial, must have mattered to a lot of people, and it's fine.

I can't find very much here. I heard the singles back when they were on the radio and remember them. They didn't do anything for me back then. Hearing the rest of the album now did almost less. The vocal stylings aren't for me. This is a fine album.

I so happen to be a big fan of Jane's Addiction, an owner since this albums release, and a ... I try to be objective of course but subjectively, in all honestly this is one of the best albums of it's era. it is alt-rock at its best and an absolute must hear. It is what one gets when a band is all totally nuts and totally into what they are doing at the same time. Fantastic!

Solid alternative rock album. I don't know how essential it was but definitely enjoyable.

#1047. His voice is very voicey, but it kind of works somehow, sort of. 3/5: good

Maybe its just the comedown but this is really discombobulating me

Grunge

Great album

Ritual is a nearly but not quite album, lacking the purpose of Nothing Shocking . Since they split a year after it’s release perhaps this was the band starting to pull in different directions and that’s made for a less cohesive effort. It has the ingredients to be great but falls short of it.

When I first began this record, I was incredibly skeptical about my enjoyment of it. I had heard good things about Jane's Addiction but I was prepared to give it a 2 and yet once we hit around the fourth song, I finally found myself enjoying it. Fun rock tunes with a decent groove. Nothing ground breaking but very fun. Fav Songs Been Caught Stealing Three Days Obvious Is it Top 1001 Worthy (is it essential)? Possibly, definitely feels like a semi precursor to the later 90's alt sound and a funky listen. Do so when you get the time I say

wish it didn't fall off so much at the end

Liked it. Didn't love it. Would listen to it again.

Excellent album that I used to love listening to in my youth, the subtle use of keyboards as well as the guitar being used in a way similiar to the way that The Edge adds textures to U2 create a very unique sound that is very creative.

I still don't think I'll wind up loving this band, but I liked this one a bit more than the other one. Still petered out at the end for me, but solid enough.

Pliis mitä nää 10 minuutin biisit on.
