The Dreaming by Kate Bush
May 29 2024

9/10. Completely bonkers. Haven't heard anything like it before, not even from Kate Bush herself. I love it. Great opening track which immediately got me excited followed by two more bangers. After that it sometimes becomes a bit too slow or weird but it's all just too charming to fault it for that. Highlights: Pull out the Pin There Goes a Tenner Sat in Your Lap Night of the Swallow Get out of My House All the Love Suspended in Gaffa

The United States Of America by The United States Of America
May 31 2024

Gorillaz by Gorillaz
Nov 03 2024

7.5/10 A large variety of good ideas, but turning these ideas into coherent songs is something Gorillaz did much better on the albums that were about to follow. Shame these aren't in the list :( Highlights: Sound Check Clint Eastwood 19-2000 M1A1 (should have been the opener) Tomorrow Comes Today

Nixon by Lambchop
Nov 04 2024

5.5/10 Feels like the kind of album I would hate, but I don't. It's pleasant enough and goes in all kinds of directions that aren't quite as boring as the mellow sounds and raspy vocals would suggest. Highlights: Petrified Florist Butcher Boy The Old Gold Shoe

Dire Straits by Dire Straits
Nov 05 2024

7/10 Really unfortunate Love over Gold and Making Movies aren't on the list. This is not the best Dire Straits album. Other than the two highlights the songs are just still kinda bland. Amazing guitar playing of course. Highlights: Sultans of Swing Down to the Waterline

Nov 06 2024

6/10 Different and not unpleasant to listen to, but very little emotional connection or meaning. Highlights: America is Waiting The Jezebel Spirit

Nov 28 2024

5.5/10 Highlights: Time With You

The Suburbs by Arcade Fire
Dec 02 2024

8/10 I guess they never heard the phrase less is more. The album is simply too long with too many songs being nice but non essential. Some great tracks near the beginning and end though. Highlights: We Used to Wait Sprawl II The Suburbs Ready to Start Modern Man Deep Blue Half Life I

At San Quentin by Johnny Cash
Dec 03 2024

7.5/10 Kinda hard to judge. As a collection of songs this wouldn't be worth four stars, but the interaction with the audience and Cash showing his skill as an entertainer elevate it to a different level. Highlights: A Boy Named Sue Peace in the Valley

Space Ritual by Hawkwind
Dec 04 2024

6/10 What is the point of a live album being on this list if you can barely notice it's live... Feels like a sneaky way to get a compilation album on here, so basically cheating. (Although nobody could accuse this of being a "greatest hits" album) A lot going on but it's too much to keep track of and I already forgot most of it. Really it's just waaaaay too long. I can imagine I might appreciate it more if I listened to it a couple times, but who has time for that?

Olympia 64 by Jacques Brel
Jan 02 2025

7/10 Highlights: Amsterdam Plat Pays

Murder Ballads by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
Jan 06 2025

7/10 Ridiculous album. Mostly its just a monotonous listing of various people being killed, often for no appararent reason, with occasional touches of sexual violence for extra shock value. At the same time there is something intriguing about the relentless commitment to the theme. The instrumentation is quite enjoyable despite being somewhat repetitive. Personally I suspect death actually is the end. Not sure if that makes this album better or worse. Highlights: Where the Wild Roses Grow Song of Joy Lovely Creature Death is not the End Crow Jane Henry Lee

4/10 I liked the first song and Im pretty sure theres some good lyricism on the album, but the songs are soo boring and the more it dragged on the more I wanted it to stop. No matter how good an album is in theory, if I spent half of it looking at the time wishing for it to end thats just not a good sign. Highlights: Coyote

7.5/10 Didn't quite like this as much as I thought it would, given I already knew it front to back. Maybe it's the production which can be quite ugly at times. Not sure. Either way, the first half has too many bangers to give 3 stars. Shame the best Killers song is the first song on the first album and then it all went downward from there. Highlights: Jenny Was a Friend of Mine Mr. Brightside Smile Like You Mean It Change Your Mind Somebody Told Me

8.5/10 I don't trust anyone who actively hates Coldplay. I get if you don't care for them, but hating them? I'm just gonna assume you're desperately trying to be cool. No integrity. Anyway, the album is very pretty. Well produced. Nice soundscapes. Especially love the guitar sound. Dec 14 2025

9/10 It's not the most coherent album. So many musical plot twists the plot sometimes gets lost. However it keeps you interested from beginning to end. The highs are very high, while the lows are still pretty good. Weird, but decent and engaging. There's so much energy and creativity here. Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness by The Smashing Pumpkins
Dec 17 2025

7.5/10 Difficult one. You need to have a lot to say to justify an album this long and while Smashing Pumpkins do have plenty to say, is it really enough? I don't know. I'm not entirely convinced. It did enjoy most of it though. Each half as a separate album would have gotten 4 stars and the first side would even lean towards 5. It's edgy but there are loads of beautiful melodies and the orchestration is top notch for a rock album. The voice I don't particularly mind. So a hesitant 4 stars from me, but I don't want to hear any more Smashing Pumpkins for at least a couple months. Highlights: Tonight, Tonight Bullet with Butterfly Wings Thru the Eyes of Ruby Galapogos Zero To Forgive Stumbleine Here is No Why Melon Collie and the Infinite Sadness 1979 Bodies

9/10 Controversial opinion, but I like this much, much more than Kid A. It's somehow both more adventurous and varied, and yet more accessible. Not as abstract maybe, but considerably more pleasant to listen to, while still being unique and interesting. Like every Radiohead album there's plenty of melancholy here, but it isn't quite as bleak and cold as Kid A. It's almost even kind of fun at some points. Permission to Land by The Darkness
Feb 01 2026

7/10 I somehow expected a band called the darkness to make music thats a bit eeh darker. I don't know what to make of this. The lyrics are very silly. Its fun and competent and I usually enjoy stuff thats a bit over the top, but the songs dont really do it for me. This album is not a breeze. Cause it blows hard. (Kidding, its alright. Just not very interesting.) 5/10

McCartney by Paul McCartney
Feb 08 2026

4.5/10 Disappointing. I dont usually mind shorter albums because they are often more focused, but then youre not supposed to fill them with intermezzos and unfinished ideas. Here its clear that, very surprisingly, McCartney just didnt have enough material for an album. Bold choice to release it anyway, since presumably after the Beatles youd want to come out of the gate swinging. There just isn't much here, which left me feeling empty.

Smile by Brian Wilson
Mar 09 2026

6/10 Some great songs (if not always in their best version), some nice compositions, but also a lot of pointless filler. Highlights: Surf's Up Good Vibrations Heroes and Villains/Roll Plymouth Rock

Mar 16 2026

7.5/10 As with previous Eno albums I still struggle to connect emotionally to the songs. However, other than that it does tick all the boxes for me. It's diverse, with the first half being quirky and exciting (the Talking Heads vibes are cool) and the second half atmospheric and feeling more like a journey through various musical landscapes. The production is amazing. Highlights: Backwater Spider and I King's Lead Hat Through Hollow Lands

Loveless by My Bloody Valentine
Mar 17 2026

7/10 Lots of hooks, but no songs. Highlights: Soon When You Sleep

Fishscale by Ghostface Killah
Mar 18 2026

6/10 The previous album by a wu tang clan member I got on this list still tops my list for the worst albusm so far (505 albums in), so I didn't have high expectations coming in. However, this one surprised me. It's not at all bad actually. It's still too long, the lyrics still contain a bit too much of the same hiphop cliches (and I care more for music than for lyrics anyway which is one of the reasons hiphop isnt generally my cup of tea), but the storytelling is better than most and the beats were fun and very listenable. Highlights: Shakey Dog Underwater

Mar 19 2026

5/10 Long and repetitive. Nice beats/production though. I don't mind violence/murder as a subject matter, but constantly glorifying and bragging about it does get kinda obnoxious real quick. Highlight: Patiently Waiting What Up Gangsta

Raw Power by The Stooges
Mar 20 2026

5.5/10 I'm all for separating the art from the artist (otherwise half of the albums on here would have to be 1/5), but knowing Mr. Pop was having sex with 13 year olds at the time does make some of these lyrics appear a lot more cringe.

Heaven Or Las Vegas by Cocteau Twins
Apr 25 2026

9/10 Most surprising 5 stars for me so far. I wasn't really familiar with Cocteau Twins before. The lyrics are unintelligible and the songs are hard to distinguish from each other, but I was blown away by the atmosphere, the production, the super bright and shiny vocals. Human voice is really used as an instrument here. It's mesmerising and addictive. Also super consistent, there aren't any skips. Highlights: Fifty-fifty Clown I Wear your Ring Iceblink Luck Heaven or Las Vegas Frou-frou Foxes in Midsummer Fires Wolf in the Breast Cherry-coloured Funk

7.5/10 It has the edge and rawness (and questionable singing skills) of punk, but with a lot more expanded sound and rich instrumentation. Its a bit spooky and a bit weird. The lyrics are witty. Ten by Pearl Jam
May 18 2026

9.5/10 Was tempted to let this be my first 10/10 (522 albums in), but really it should've just been called Nineandahalf No doubt Eddie Vedders singing style is an invitation for parody, but there's no denying the power of his voice, for example on a track like Why Go (I love the effect on the line "*SHE* seems to be stronger") and it really fits the music well. As others have mentioned the lyrical themes may be dark, but there is a certain warmth about the album, despite the bleak stories being told. It's not as cynical as Nirvana. Pearl Jam isn't too cool to add musical flourishes or write beautiful melodies (Black, Porch and Jeremy stand out in that regard). The album is dense and super tight. Every track is worth listening, even if the energy fades away a bit near the end. It's a near perfect heavy rock album. Highlights: Jeremy Why Go Black Alive Porch Once Even Flow Garden

8.5/10 A collection of great popsongs with a fascinating backstory. Absolute highlight is The Chain, with it's slow buildup and enormously satisfying release when the iconic bassline kicks in. The Colour Of Spring by Talk Talk
Jul 05 2026

9.5/10 Perfectly combines the energetic popsongs of their earlier albums with the experimentation and detailed layered soundscape of their later work. The simple but exciting grooves, the frequent use of organs and Hollis using his voice as an instrument all contribute to a very big sound that really appeals to me and creates so much atmosphere. The childrens choir on Happiness is Easy is probably the weakest bit of the album. I Don't Believe in You is a beautiful track with a lot of emotion from Hollis, but the album really picks up with Life's What You Make It, which turns a few piano notes into a big statement. April 5th and Chameleon Day are a bit slow but also very pretty and fragile sounding, but the real highlights of the album are the very energetic Living in Another World and the long, but very urgent closing track.. Highlights: Living in Another World Time It's Time Life's What You Make It Give It Up I Don't Believe in You April 5th
