Classic grunge, great debut album, though personally i find it hard to listen to it after a while
Not a classical or piano music listener at all, but this is was a nice experience, esp Part I. Loved hearing all the stomps, the vocalisations, just pure emotion flowing on the piano. While Part I felt very dynamic, Part II was a bit tiresome, as the underlying rhythm melody felt a little too repetitive. Overall, a good experience, def would think about grabbing this on vinyl if i saw one
I can appreciate this band and their influence on the music scene altogether but.... i guess this album is just not my cup of tea
Very energetic, very fun. A pretty short album although that's not a bad thing. Even though the album does have an older sound and style (the old r&b), i think it stands the test of time quite fine.
Very soulful, very groovy, i quite liked it, especially Runaway Child, Running Wild
very strange, dreamy and psychedelic, almost feels like i'm in a fever dream while listening to the album. the lyrics are imo pretty unremarkable and borderline childish though somehow, combined with the structure of the songs and melodies, it keeps you deep (maybe not that deep) in thought about the messages behind them all.
it's one of those albums where i will bob my head throughout and when the album's done i'll go "mm, good album!".. and that's honestly all i can say about this one, it's hard to find other words for it. it's good! i like it!
insanely strong middle, solid beginning and ending. paul mccartney tried to ruin it but i didn't mind him in that one song. great album!
hearing johnny's banter and the cheering of inmates definitely makes this album a much better experience than it would be if it was just a studio record. very fun listen
ahh what a classic. it just makes me wonder why i refused to listen to led zeppelin when i was younger, i feel like i should've and would've loved them
i always found the police to be one of the strangest bands out there. it doesn't make sense to me why were they so popular at one point. their albums confused me, i always thought they were all over the place stylistically, i struggled to listen to their albums to completion.
but now that i've finished synchronicity, it got me curious about the rest of their discography, i think i'll give their other LPs a listen too.
and my opinion hasn't changed at all, i am still confused by the police, the amount of musical genre influence in the album is a bit overwhelming and i find it to lack a some cohesion.
but honestly i don't mind all of that at all. i loved the album. it's strange and intriguing and... it just tickles my brain in a certain peculiar way and i like it.
great art piece! not a great music piece though
the first and the last song are bangers, but the rest of the album is kind of a drag
the album starts and ends in an aggresive and violent tone but in the middle it tones down (just a little), gets a little more repetitive. i kinda wish it kept the super high energy throughout the whole album. the lyrics are whatever.
nevertheless, the album is great, it's iconic. definitely not an album (or the band in general) that you just sit and listen to, you have to experience it, whether in a party, rave or a live show (which i did and it was amazing!)
i love david bowie but i really don't care about blue-eyed soul at all. the only songs i trully enjoyed are 'fascination' and 'fame'. and it's probably because they are more funk than soul.
i just seem to connect deeply with really depressed people and their music
great sound, alright lyrics, awful album cover. i liked it but it wasn't anything special
very cohesive and well put this album for the variety of different sounds and styles it has. this album exceeded each and every of my expectations.
minimalist and monotonous. riddled with numbingly repetitive riffs. though i wouldn't say the album was dry or boring, it was alright. it's just that they had better things done in their later years.
i'm not the biggest nirvana fan out there but this was a great live album. very raw, very intimate. did not miss any of their biggest songs, they were not needed here.
i've only heard bob dylan's most famous songs before, this is my first album of his that i've listen to.
every song on the album is 7 minutes of the most sickly and unenergetic singing on top of the most basic, boring and monotonous muddy guitar riffs. the 'lyrical genius' that so many people claim dylan to be is also nowhere to be seen in this album.
i know dylan has like 7 or 8 albums on this list. my only hope is that it gets better from here. i really hope his other albums redeem this disappointing experience.
wonderful album, captivating, groovy, powerful vocals and lyrics. a bit too long for my liking (probably because the ep is bundled together with disc 2 on streaming platforms) though not at all boring.
it kinda feels like this album doesn't really know what it wants to be. at times it's very angry and spooky, sometimes it goes from very heavy to an almost pop-ish sound, then it gets quite political, and then sometimes it's like i'm listening to a boy band trying to make metal music. it's just a little all over the place at times.
for the most part it's pretty cohesive, quite groovy in a way, very rhythmic. drums and guitars go pretty hard in this album, i like that. what i did not like is that the vocals at times felt a little too abrasive and the lyrics for the most part are pretty superficial and impactless.
as far as metal music goes, this is an okay album. not something i'd pick up to listen again though.
though this reggae latin pop rock genre thing is not for my taste, i thought the album was nice and vibey. chill music.
i wish i knew some spanish of french, i feel like i would've enjoyed the album a little bit more this way
i do not really care for american folky poetry songs but i'll take leonard cohen over bob dylan anytime
it all sounds... gritty and distracting
sometimes it's off-brand duran duran, sometimes it's toned down david bowie
very short, very forgettable. the only thing this album has going for them well is the instrumentation, the vocals and lyrics are whatever. the album feels fast but not really energetic.
very short and very forgettable. though it was nice to hear a totally different vibe and sound than the one on 'pet sounds', this one is a little more dark and wistful.
this is my first of six(?) elvis costello albums that are on this list. i've seen that he's considered one of the best songwriters of his time, grouped with bob dylan and such...
why is it that i keep finding these so called 'lyrical geniuses' to be the most insufferable musicians to listen to? i hate the structures/arrangements of the songs in this album, the general sound is also quite flat, vocal layering is grating, the instruments also sound like they're lacking depth. and just overall, it seems to me like this style/genre of music just doesn't really suit costello; his vocals don't really stick together with the rest of the band but that might just be the result of poor mixing of the album.
another thing that annoyed me personally is the way he sings the high notes in his songs... it sounds annoying, he's trying so hard, it does not work for him at all yet he does it so many times, ugh.
anyway, the album as a whole was boring, forgettable and a little too long. hated it, though can't wait to hear his other stuff!
a pleasant surprise though nothing spectacular
very soulful, full of raw emotion, authentic and creative. imo this is an instant classic. nothing but love for kiwanuka!
very grand and cinematic sound but as the album progresses, just like with very long movies, you kinda start wondering when is this gonna finally end (though i wouldn't say the album was boring at all).
the music is very rich and well crafted but, at the end of it all, i just don't really know which song is which, as they all just blend together sonically. this album really misses out on having at least one or two powerful singles that would stand out and give some energy and life to the whole thing.
i guess i can see this album and band being someones favourite but to me it sounds a bit like a step down compared with their influences (such as radiohead and peter gabriel)
loved the drums, loved the bass, the instumentation in this album slaps.
the only problem is i don't want to listen to this album anymore. once was enough. that does not slap.
started out great and groovy but got tiring and tedious halfway through and it stayed this way all the way till the end. don't get me wrong, the songs are good, it's just that to me this becomes background music very fast.
the second half of the album is missing one or two stronger tracks to really bring the whole album into one massive banger. but damn, i could listen to the first half of the album nonstop, it's perfect.
this album is an easy one to recommend if someone asks for some soul or just to fill the void in the room with some good vibes.
did not expect to hear ska today out of all kinds of music but this was pretty nice. though to me this album could be a 2 on one day and a 5 on another (pretty much like any other ska album tbh)
not a great fan of jazz but this was the most exciting listen i've had of this kind of music ever.
a tad snoozy. apart from 'the ocean', which was delivered without any power or passion, this album was just boring and tedious
listening to this feels a little like watching porn in the middle of the day while your family hangs around in the same room.
the melody was amazing, very funky and groovy. the vocals were smooth and sexy if not also a little creepy (or maybe even a lot creepy).
the concept of this album is... certaintly a choice. but i guess the album was pretty good, if glossing over the fact that it's a little pedo-ish and rapey.
the more i listen to the police, the more their sound is growing on me. i love this album. though i still don't understand how they managed to become one of the biggest bands of their time, they are everything but mainstream.
