The upbeat songs are good, the others are not so good.

I mean it’s a vibe. Represents an era. The songs are too similar to really enjoy - in many ways the entire album feels like 1 long song. I’d rather The Bee Gees or Earth Wind and Fire or something. Sorry not sorry. 2/5.

One or twl good songs that i liked the rest i could pass on

So chic, so chic, chic chic chic CHIC. I do not think I can look at the word chic normally ever again.

So Catchy!

Pre Listen: 2nd CHIC album, nice! Last one I got was Risque, and I quite enjoyed it. Higher expectations this time around, do your thing Chic. Notable Tracks: Le Freak | I Want Your Love - The two hit classics of this album. I prefer 'I Want Your Love' as I find it more funky. Those bells are great. Le Freak holds special memories to me too though, as my siblings and I used to sing it together at random cause we thought it was funny. Good Memories. At Last I Am Free - Least favorite track. This thing goes on for much too long, way too repetitive. Boring. Post Listen: Ehhhh, I didn't enjoy this one as much as 'Risque'. Got a little repetitive. I normally really like funky, groovy music like this. This was the first time I finally got the vibe when people say music like this is "Elevator Music". It was a little too slow. A little too repetitive. Well produced, professional, but somewhat bland. My favorite instrument was the bass, I love the heavy, louder bass in music like this, but it simply wasn't enough to make the songs excel. Good vibes music I guess, but I know I won't remember any song on here other than the big hits. Every song should've been like 3 minutes in length, but each is extended by repeating the same 3 measures of music 5 times over, with slight variation. C'est Boring. 3/5

Hoped for more - the first song repeats the word 'Chic' over a hundred times, which set the tone for the album having many songs which repeated 'grooves' and loops. 'Savoir Faire' was a nice instrumental song, 'Le Freak' is the well known song along with 'I want Your Love'. Overall, fine. Not bad, not great.

What do we expect other than a shedful of funky disco. So far it's been a shortish intro and then Le Freak. What can follow? Savoir Faire is an instrumental soul, with extended guitar jam/solo I didn't know I Want Your Love was on this album At Last I Am Free is far too long and goes nowhere. Sometimes You Win puts me in mind of Beegees or even Abba I'm really surprised how little there is here beyond the two big tracks. It's more soul and less straight disco than I hoped for. Best track - Chic Cheer 3 stars

Enjoyed it more than expected Standout songs: Savoir Faire Happy Man

Is it weird I liked the ballads better?

I knew Le Freak and I Want Your Love from being a human in the world, but I'd never heard the whole album. It oddly has some genre whiplash at moments but overall is solid

Great dance/disco album

THE ALBUM COVER. THE PRODUCTION. THE VOCALS. No notes. So dreamy. They really said you want disco??? I’ll give you disco. Me on coke would LOVE this let me tell you. Me driving to RDU at 5am still enjoyed Fav: Le Freak, Happy Man, at last I’m free, funny bone

hmmm. Okay, so. This is a 70s disco album, everyone knows le freak. The problem i had with this album is that every song was SO repetitive. Like 6 minute songs repeating the same line over and over. I understand maybe that was the style and you were just supposed to get caught in the groove and listen to the bassline and stuff. I totally get getting caught up in the vibe and going with it. It just was a little too much for me, I was like okay let’s keep it moving… Then the last song was basically just party sounds (laughing, screaming) over a groovy beat. I thought I was going into psychosis listening to it. The grooves were funky but I was a little bit disappointed by some aspects of the album.

Production: 4 - enjoying the production as a whole, little hidden instrumentals - House, disco grooves - Sounds finished Composition: 3.5 - good, repetitive and catchy melodies but didn’t find anything much profound yk whereas if I compare it to In Love by Prince, I find that to have a better composition - The lyrics that there are match the melodie and mood of the song and catchy Enjoyability: 4 - now this is more like my sort of jam, giving me renaissance, MJ, prince vibes - Who doesn’t love le freak? - Very groovy and joyful album Cohesion: 5 - each song is its own world within this body of work, but all follow the same concept in the sense of lovely groovy beats with little repetitive lyrics Songs liked: 4/8 - Can understand where they took influence from and kind of made it their own sound but also notice how they shaped future house/disco sound

there are some classics on here, but i wasn’t having a particularly disco kind of day. it was fine.

Disco is not my favorite genre but, Chic plays an elevated version of that flavor of R&B. The musicianship is stellar. I not into the slow jams though. There was one slow number that just grinds the whole album to a halt but, otherwise… it’s as good as far as disco goes. 4

"C’est Chic" is a finely crafted record, elevated primarily by its exceptional musicianship. The rhythm section of Bernard Edwards and Tony Thompson is world-class, providing a formidable foundation alongside Nile Rodgers’ crisp, inventive guitar work. Their collective tight interplay ensures the album shines even for listeners (like me) who typically bypass the genre, and the production quality remains impressively crisp decades on. While the momentum on side two tails off somewhat after the excellent 'I Want Your Love', the overall quality of writing and performance makes for a strong listen throughout. The visual presentation, however, leaves much to be desired: the cheap-looking white border and pasted-on track-listing give the album cover the distinct feel of a budget 1970s Woolworths compilation, severely undercutting the refined music inside. Four stars. Side one 1 "Chic Cheer" (4/5) 2 "Le Freak" (5/5) 3 "Savoir Faire" (4/5) 4 "Happy Man" (3/5) Side two 1 "I Want Your Love" (5/5) 2 "At Last I Am Free" (3/5) 3 "Sometimes You Win" (3/5) 4 "(Funny) Bone" (3/5) Total - 30 Average - 3.8 441/1001 234/441 albums reviewed were new to me.

Never cared much for Disco, but I'm pleasantly surprised by the quality here, mainly because of the instrumentation at play, which is great. Especially the bass, and as a bassist myself, I can appreciate the excellent musicianship. Just an incredibly solid Disco record.

The record that contains "Le Freak" — written in a burst of frustration after Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards were turned away from Studio 54 on New Year's Eve, the anger completely invisible in the finished product. That gap between origin and result is the whole Chic story: whatever was happening in the room, what came out was always the groove, precise and joyful and completely in service of the moment. "Le Freak" is the rhythm guitar chop that became Rodgers' signature move in its most concentrated form — the interlocking pattern so precisely right that it sold over four million copies as a single and still sounds like the only possible version of itself. "I Want Your Love" is the warmer counterweight, melodically generous in ways the title track doesn't need to be, arguably the better song for exactly that reason. The Chic formula is fully realized throughout — rhythm guitar and bass locked together, strings adding warmth without weight, vocals serving the groove rather than competing with it. The same observation that landed Risqué at four applies here: borderline five territory without quite the depth to clear the bar, the peaks excellent and the surrounding material excellent without either reaching irreplaceable. Two Chic records, two fours, two records where "Good Times" and "Le Freak" respectively make the strongest case and the albums around them deliver consistently without transcending. A four that the groove earns completely.

A bit boring.

Really great

honestly, pretty fire album 'Le Freak' is an all time banger - without a doubt. but this album actually incorporates a ton of different feels into it. some soul, funk, and disco all wrapped up in one. would listen again for sure

Not always the biggest disco fan but this was better than I was expecting. I enjoyed having my morning coffee while enjoying the dance hall vibes. Doesn’t hurt that Le Freak is one of the most recognizable songs of all time.

Damn good disco album with some funky guitar riffs in it as well.

This album, like a LOT of early Pop (and Disco) albums is a product of its time, in that it has two era defining hits and then a bunch of songs that I really do not care to ever hear again.

This is exactly the kind of album I wanted to find. It's a little disco but a bit more. Loved this

Maximum grooviness

- Like the other Chic album on this list, I enjoyed the grooves on this album, and the musicians are all good (especially the bass + some cool guitar moments). - This album has the two hits everyone knows. Overall, though, it's a bit uneven. There are definitely a few songs in the middle that didn't do it for me. - The lyrics are nothing much to write about...

I feel like I’m supposed to like Chic, and the opening tracks of this were appropriately groovy to give me hope, but the rest of fhe album was too shiny and smooth for my liking.

Disco will never be over. It will always live in our minds and hearts. Something like this that was this big, and this important, and this great, will never die. Oh for a few years, maybe many years it will be considered passé and ridiculous. It will be misrepresented, caricatured and sneered at, or worse, completely ignored. Those who didn't understand will never understand. Disco was much more, and much better than all that. Disco was too great and too much fun to be gone forever. It has got to come back someday. I just hope it will be in our own lifetimes...Sorry, I've got a job interview this afternoon and I was trying to get revved up, but - most of what I said I, uh, believe.

I would happily own this on vinyl. This is lovely background music

ta buenardo 3,5/5.

I love this album. It reminds me of a newer age band called Khruangbin. They definitely got some inspiration from this day and age of music. I love the disco background music and bangers like le freak!

It’s the 70’s version of Frank Sinatra’s Songs for Swingin’ Lovers. Great sounds, instrumentation and a beat that just keeps going from one to the next—keep on dancing sexy, sweaty Band Stand generation. Instant Luther Vandross recognition.

Slick and funky, some of the sleekest production I’ve heard from disco music. Almost too clean sometimes, but that didn’t stop me from enjoying the experience. Le Freak is a classic, and if this album was just Le Freak eight times in a row it would’ve been perfect.

Vibesssssssss!

Love the hit of course, but a bit slower than my usual fare!

Nice Funk. First two tracks were incredibly boring. The third track, Savoire Faire was amazing with the incredible guitar solo. The rest of the record was alright. Averages out to a 3/5 in my opinion. #199 (200 soon lets goo)

I could just copy and paste my last CHIC review, as it has the same pros and cons. Funky ass music from really talented musicians that would kill on the dancefloor, but the songs are too long and repetitive outside of it

Groovy, but not my style

it was like. ok. every song was very samey but decent enough background music fare.

yeah this is good

1076 - "Here's your juice box and orange slice. Thanks for coming."

At last i am free est trop trop bien.

One of my favourites. Nile and Bernard forever x

Didn’t think I’d heard of them, but I’ve heard much of their stuff. Truly a classic album!

4/10 I mean, Chic are overrated, obviously. It's all very well having great bass and guitar players, but when what they do is so repetitive or aimlessly noodly (with nowt in between), you can quite rightly be disappointed. And what is going on with such long songs? You said everything you were going to say in the first 60seconds! Why drag it out to 6+mins??

This is my favorite disco album of all time. From the first moments it feels groovy, soulful and lovely. The beat is gorgeous and everything in the mix plays so well together that you can feel the dance in your body while listening. It is emotional and joyful at the same time. The vocals sit perfectly on top of the rhythm section. The bass and drums lock in with that classic Chic precision, the guitars add sharp, clean lines, and nothing ever feels out of place. The whole record has a smooth confidence that makes it easy to stay with from start to finish. Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards produced it themselves, and the sound is clean, rich and beautifully balanced. Every part has space while still serving the groove. It is disco at its most elegant and most physical. C’est Chic remains a pure pleasure. Groovy, warm and endlessly listenable.

This is what dance music was meant to sound like. Just pure, bass-lead energy. I already gave this album a listen a couple years ago, and "Happy Man" is still my favorite. "I want your Love" and pretty much all of the songs have infectious, stink-face inducing bass lines. Slower songs like "Savior Fair" still groove and provide nice variety, but a couple of them do drag on for two long. Still, the strengths outweighs the weaknesses of this album enough for me to feel confident giving it a light 4. I mean, the bass playing is enough argument on its own. The bass is the best instrument

For most of the time since this album came out, I guess I mostly dismissed Chic (and most - pretty much all? - disco) as lightweight fluff. Back then, I think I saw Chic, and disco, as a step backward (or, anyway, a drop in quality) compared with a lot of the black r&b/funk/soul that I love(d) from the later 60s and early 70s. While I would still generally agree with that position, I would modify it in one important respect: listening now, I recognize the excellence of the guitar and bass work of (respectively) Niles Rodgers and Bernard Edwards. Largely because of that excellence, I give this album a solid 3 stars, rather than the 2 stars I probably would have given it at any time prior to the last few years or so. So, happy for the opportunity to belatedly correct this longstanding oversight.

a fascinating time capsule my favorite track is "Savoir Faire" it's almost too clean/polished to the point of being stiff. Repetitive vocals also contribute to the robotic feel. It's a strong 3 for me, because it feels like it's missing something. And most likely what it's missing is the dancefloor

Fun to listen to, but from a casual listening setting, most songs were not super memorable (though I did know Le Freak already). The biggest exception was Savoir Faire for me, Nile Rodgers's guitar solo was so fun to listen to!

CHIC have some great songs, most of which included on this album

Good, funky, vibey

I love me a classic

top funk

Lovely full length disco album. My ears have been tuned to Nile Rogers since about the summer of 2011 when I found out he was getting a signature model Stratocaster. If you're too daft to appreciate the boogie oogie, groovy woovies of disco then you're missing out. This is smooth and easy listening after the dance hits and tender love songs. Back two or three songs lost me. Savior faire pulls the whole album up a star. Absolutely timeless and classic adult contemporary melody woven with excellent r&b fusion. I love that song so very much.

Not for me

It was kinda catchy in parts, but was overall kinda repetitive. good background music but if its something you are listening to with focus it seems to get old rather quick.

It was fun. I can see that it will get people dancing. Kinda repetitive but a fun groove for sure.

C'est what? My first disco album from the list. Pretty groovy. Nice, funky instrumentals - the instrumentals are doing all the heavy lifting, truth be told. Lyrically, not earth shattering but disco really isn't all that earth shattering as a genre (it's fun and that's about it), so ¯\(°_o)/¯ Highish 3

Songs to get pregnant to: the album

Nice, fun, and groovy. Overall really great, well produced disco. I'm a big fan of great bass playing, which is all over this record.

Great bass lines. So tight and so funky. Really good album.

1. 4.5 2. 5 3. 4 4. 4.5 1. 4.5 2. 3.5 3. 3 4. 3.5

Standouts Le Freak Savior Faire

very very close to a 4/5 loses points due to the repetitive lyrics in some songs and the intro specifically is awful but granted its not a genre that i enjoy do ++ also the mosts treamed song is overrated slop

Bastante rítmico animado

Funky and fun. I really enjoyed this disco album. A little bit long but you get that from dance songs.

Really groovy but pretty repetitive.

After the previous day (90’s grunge) this late 70s funk was a relative pleasure. Lyrics too repetitive, however.

So smooth. So satisfying. Disco is so underrated.

Noen bangers: Le Freak og I want your love

Bedre når det er ballader enn når det er freaky. At Last I Am Free er sterke saker.

I mostly knew C'est Chic from a 90's chips commercial, but the whole album was funky and fun.

Savoir faire and happy man top, basso fighissimo, troppo anni 70 per me

This was not what I expected and I really enjoyed it. I would to totally listen again.

Funky & Soulful with a little pop of Disco. I dig it.

Nile Rodgers is obviously a genius, trailblazer, pioneer what-have-you, but this shit is pretty boring outside of 'Le Freak'.

Booooring

Nice.. paar goede nummers maar ook veel meuk

Very monotone

Some great songs, a few which go on too long

Feels like one long pretty boring song. I liked the first beat, but not so much after an hour

5 stars for the bass lines, but overall it didn’t have enough catchy songs for me.

Pretty funky shmunky

Funky all the way through, some better tracks than others, but fun and enjoyable
