Reviews (page 2 of 13)
One of faved funkadelic disco albums at the tender age of 10, I remember listening and being surprised how the repetitous sensation drove me to my thirst for that hypnotic full album listening.
Stunning.
Those who say "disco sucks" are listening to the wrong disco. This album is so cool, yet also so fun. It's also noteworthy for the chasm between the lameness of the album cover and the coolness of the music. I can't think of another album with such a huge dichotomy.
While not totally unaware of their existence, CHIC is to date my most favorite 1001 journey discoveries.
FIREE
Helllll yeah this is evergreen disco
I LOVED this album. It is so awesome. So many great songs
i loooove a good groovy album and by god this mf is groovy. Savoir Faire is such a gorg song. I Want Your Love is so so so groovy and… fluid?? idk how to describe it other than fluid. At Last I Am Free is so flowy, i feel like i need to have a long flowy dress that blows and flows in the wind
hell yeah. just true 70s disco funk classic
perfect for a rainy drive home
Este álbum es el verdadero blueprint, que alegría da escuchar como se creó la historia
type shi i would play to my nephew's or niece with glass of wine
great album
I really enjoyed listening to this album. I remember loving Le Freak and I Want Your Love but I wasn’t as familiar with some of the other songs. The whole album is great. The production quality, the fabulous vocals and great instrumentals make this album a joy to listen to. Chic Cheer is a fun opening track. It has the feeling of being at a concert and waiting for the band to start. Love the baseline. Le Freak was a monster hit in the 70’s and it has endured over the decades as a quintessential party song. Savior Faire, Happy Man and the classic I Want Your Love are all great. They really embodied the joyous sound and rhythm of disco music. For me, the only weak track is At Last I Am Free which is a bit boring and too long. This album is a winner.
Il Funky, adoro il Funky. Lo voglio, in vinile, e smattare
Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards were a great combo. This gets a from me despite "At Last I Am Free" lasting about 4 minutes more than it reasonably should have. The other songs have so much groove you don't really notice the length.
Legendary Sounds
Classic hits of the late funk/disco era
disco funk
Excellent album
Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers are two of my absolute musical heroes. Chic is so dialed in: debonair disco & freeing funk.
if you told me they invented disco id believe you
disco/funk genius incredibly, I'd only heard the 2 singles on this record - it is all great
Unreal
Awesome
Funky
I have to say, I really loved this album. Obviously Le Freak is an awesome song, but I loved that the album was entirely a club dance album. Not super lyric heavy, but basically designed for the clubs. You have some great dance jams, some slow jams for some romantic close dancing, just a great mix of songs that you can move to in that classic club setting. Chic Cheer was a great song and Savoir Faire had the legendary Nile Rogers KILLING IT on the guitar. It's a perfect encapsulation of the disco era. Music designed to show out in the club and on the dance floor. We don't really go to dance clubs to show off our dance moves anymore and disco went away along with the skate rink. Kind of too bad. It's just here representing an era and scene long gone.
GROOVYYY my god, early disco and R&B blending into smooth and exceptionally made grooves with phenomenal rhythm guitar and vocals. Fun, makes you happy. Killer base lines. I adore this kind of genre. Songs flow into one another for a clear and distinctive vibe and listening experience, not too long, it's meant to be hypnotic
Good funky fun! I enjoyed this one, had my head bopping. I like that the songs sat in the groove for a bit and didn't rush, great listen for my first 5/5 album.
The instruments sound so GOOD. A few absolute all timers on here and many classic riffs. The Robert Wyatt cover of “At last I am free” made me see the song in a whole new light. A classic.
This is my type of genre and I love it
incredible disco, amazing bass and guitar. Nile rodgers you are amazing. Top song: Savoir Faire.
Did not know most of these, nice to hear their range. Had completely forgotten about Chic Cheer and I Want Your Love. So good.
Savoir Faire is so good the rest of the album could have been trash and it still would be at least a 4.
158/1089 just iconic, I knew I Want Your Love, Le Freak and Chic Cheer already and the other tracks held up to that and created a really consistent, fun and timeless-sounding disco record I Want Your Love is a contender for one of the best songs ever imo, it’s just amazing. Other than the 3 mentioned, i also added Sometimes You Win, At Last I Am Free and (Funny) Bone 83/100
Just so fun
Le freak (funny) bone
Best boogie album. No notes.
Elite dance and groove album
Classic disco tracks done by the master of funk Niall Rodger’s top album which gets everyone dancing
C’est bops
banger opener with chic cheer. i love this funk sound with heavy/ groovy basslines not a lot in terms of lyrics on some of the songs. very simple and straightforward. it really leans heavily on the sound of the music
Praklausiau oer budėjimą minimus 8x, turiu dabar emocinį prisirišimą prie jo.
Inte en tråkig stund. Partiet en bit in i i want your love där bara Bernards bas och Niles gitarr hörs över trumkompet är värt en femma i sig. Luther Vanderos gör ju inte Chic sämre direkt.
Those bass licks are extra tasty. Vibes on vibes on vibes.
Best album on this list in a long time.
So good.
This one hit just right. Usually the slow jams on all these funk/disco albums of this era don’t hit quite right for me but even the ballads here were hitting the spot
I think my favorite part of this list so far is appreciating Chic on a deeper level. Chic all day works for me.
Stylish, and fancy!
Five disco balls, no question. Every track is drenched in style, confidence, and groove. “Le Freak” brings the party, “I Want Your Love” turns it romantic, and “Savoir Faire” is pure silk. I was born too late to rule the disco floor, but this album lets me pretend otherwise. 🪩✨
Had to get up and dance.
1. At first I didn't know who CHIC was, and then I heard Le Freak and immediately realized that it was "that" band 2. Damn apparently they are still touring? Or at least touring very recently 3. Seems like 2 of the 3 main members have had a hand in A LOT of popular music for decades 4. I'm sad that this is yet another "short" album, only 8 songs and 41 minutes. Why can't THIS be the 2 hour album?? 5. Nile Rodgers really knows how to get around the music business and I'd actually heard of his name before but never knew he was a member of this band 6. I definitely know a few of these songs, but also don't know a number of them as well 7. The guitar backings of Rodgers is top fucking tier (also very reminiscent of recent songs he's featured in, man's still got it) 8. Savoir Faire I quite like for the background music despite the lack of vocals 9. While not every song in this album is a certified banger, the overall vibe and quality is definitely the best I've heard so far in all the albums we've listened to (one that I'd assuredly say deserves the "1001 albums to listen to" title 10. At Last I Am Free is my least favorite due to the generally slow nature and less "dance" vibes 11. Of the songs I wasn't already familiar with, Savoir Faire was my favorite 12. Fun little language tidbit, but "chic" has the same etymological roots as "chicanery" despite them being almost entirely different words nowadays
Incroyable.
A classic. Danceable at any time. The guitar is incredible and drives every track. The blue print for a lot sounds I enjoy to this day.
This was a great time. I enjoyed this the whole way through. I think this is a soft 5/5 for me. The grooves were so good, great record
Amazing bass playing. This is definitely going into my regular rotation.
After a pile of steaming shit from Rod Stewart, I get one of the best albums ever. Inconsistent, much?
I listen to the song Le Freak when I vote
Legendarisch. Opeens was ik het album voor een 2e keer aan het luisteren
Funky, well-produced, timeless
Nada a acrescentar, 5 estrelas . Até as baladas R&B são ótimas !
keep the nile rodgers coming
Excellent album
free cow
Unreal album
Funky fun - gets slightly repetitive but to be honest it’s very enjoyable to just jam out to the vibe for a while.
This rips. Rogers/Edwards were an incredible team of songwriters and players. Rogers' effects on popular music cannot be understated (RIP Edwards). Sure, the album is a bit repetitive. But that's entirely the point. It's a dance record. A funky-as-hell, incredibly performed one at that. An easy 5/5.
te amo disco music. a guitarra do nile rodgers dá todo o toque especial e o album é muitissimo bem produzido.
I now fully appreciate how groovy this whole album is. Great bass playing. The strings are a really nice touch. The whole album just feels so familiar, like it was always playing from before I could retain memories
One of the greatest disco and pop records of the 1970s and an incredible showcase of talent from Nile Rogers and Bernard Edwards. I love the story behind Le Freak, a song written on NYE when Nile and Bernard were unable to get into Studio 54. The original words were "fuck off!"
Disco excelente, con un creador de hits instantáneos como Neil Rodgers
Fun! Matched my mood today so it gets a 5 over a 4
🕺🕺🕺
funk!
ОБОЖАЮ CHIC
I have no idea what to say right now but I highly recommend this album. Wait, I know what to say. Amazing bass, amazing feeling, just great vibes. Such great music.
Fire
Love chic so underrated
funky fresh, very relaxing and enjoyable, reminded me of daft punks random access memories
Loved it
Perhaps a slightly underwhelming opening track, but as soon as that bassline kicks in on Le Freak, you don't look back. Whilst it's the two singles that you hear wherever you go (and no doubt we will for the next 50 years and beyond, too) this is a great collection of tracks. Chic *are* disco, and Nile Rodgers has contributed to some of the very best pop music out there. I enjoyed the slower, more expansive tracks too - didn't Alfa Anderson have a beautiful voice? C'est Chic is iconic, shiny and fabulous; influential; funky and enjoyable as heck. And they could *really* play - let's all give thanks for Bernard - that incredible bass riffing on Happy Man being just one example of what a funky bass can do for a three-chord motif. He was the man.
Didn't know what to expect and genuinely loved this - such feel-good music that I'll come back to on grey days!
EVERYTHING!!
perfection. no need for comments
Amazing and timeless record, the songs, the vibes are immaculate, pure joy from start to finish, disco and soul in a package that transcends time. So good.
Even someone who doesn't like music has heard Le Freak at least once in their life. This song is embedded in pop culture and everyone's imagination. It's truly a legendary song, made by an equally legendary band, who's never released a bad song. Is it possible to give it more than 5 stars?
After the first song which I didn't enjoy I was skeptical, but it turned out really solid
What can I say. I love a dance album.
Rating this album lower than a 5 is Anti-Black btw
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA FREAK OUT
I enjoyed this album. The last few days have been difficult, and this upbeat album helped my mood.
Lovely stuff
Favorites: Le Freak, Savoir Faire, I Want Your Love “Remember, the whole world is a circus… Don’t be the clown!” Aw, man this is some fantastic disco. Incredible grooves and harmonies with some of the smoothest songs you’ll ever hear. I adore this record!
Slightly concerned I'm falling into the trap of "I know this, I like this, its a 5", but I'm once again finding Nile Rodgers providing an album with such strong singles they do prop up the whole album. I had fun start to finish, and I like French house so every 30 seconds is another sample recognised.
Nice pop.
Wow, hätte nicht gedacht, dass ein Disco Album mich so packt. Wäre sowas heute in Clubs würd ich da auch hingehen
My dad raised me on Disco so this was great for me. It is filled with wonderful, funkadelic vibes. What more could you want? I saved "Le Freak" "Savoir Faire" and "I Want Your Love".
gorgeous little album
Fuck, this slapped.
pure disco classic, what a record
LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS ALBUM! SO MUCH I HAVE IT ON VINYL! NEW YORK IN ANOTHER COMPLETE DIFFERENT WAY! DISCO! FREAKED OUT CUZ YOU COULDN'T GET INTO STUDIO 54! THE HEDONISM! THE 70S! NILE RODGERS PIONEERING HIS IMPACT ON EVERY SINGLE GENRE! BERNARD EDWARDS GIVING US THE MOST TIMELESS AND ICONIC BASSLINES E V E RRRRRRR. OH MY GOD! BLACK ARTISTRY AT ITS FINEST....... AUTOMATIC FIVES, NO ESSAY NEEDED. I WANT YOUR LOVE IS ONE OF THE GREATEST SONGS OF ALL TIME. MY GOATS WILL NEVER BE WASHED! REST IN PEACE BERNARD!
A stone cold classic
another nile rodgers project, not sure if anyone has more vocal presence than sister sledge but the songs and arrangements are just about equally wonderful!!! just incredibly decadent but not overfilling music yk yk...like honey or something. warm, spacious, very tightly wound, clearly made with tons of effort and consideration but Feels effortless and intuitive...pitch perfect disco p much , w/ some obviously classic tracks! has been cool to encounter this previously unfamiliar-to-me corner of music, good illustration of how even thru various waning moods and feelings ive rly never felt any drive at all to stop doing this whole project
slay
Otros discos del 78: The Man Machine de Kraftwerk, debuts de Kate Bush, Pere Ubu, Magazine, , Public Image Ltd., Dire Straits, Police, The Only Ones, Devo, The Cars y Siouxsie and the banshees, (también Chris Rea y Midnight Oil), así como discos esenciales: Plastic letters y Paralell Lines, Some Girls, This year´s model, Darkness on the Edge of Town, Incantations, Équinoxe, Ambient 1: Music for Airports, All mod cons, Some girls, One Nation Under A Groove, Outlandos d´amour los directos de Cheap Trick, Thin Lizzy, Bob Marley, AC-DC y The last waltz, e incluso Grease.
Absolutely bloody brilliant. So beautiful. At first I was confused as I thought their music was disco but it is more soul/rnb with wondrous vocals and production that includes guitar solos. Most importantly is the way this album made me feel - comforted and invigorated at the same time.
Good vibes and funky
Groovay
I've never listened to the whole album but the two big singles have become ever-present classics. That meant, that I'd never heard "Savoire Faire", which is astonishing. Yes, the tracks are probably a bit long but, on this occasion, I can overlook that.
Fantastic
So many classics
I friggin love disco man.
Fav: Le Freak; Sometimes You Win;
Great album and super fun to listen to. Some of the ideas seem a bit unfinished- savoir faire sounds like the vocals are about to enter but it’s just guitar solos. Nice Rodgers is great though and Bernard’s Edward’s bass lines are so good.
Love nile and bernard, grooves are sick and the love the strings/orchestration on i want your love. Tbh vocals are kinda mid and some of the songs feel a little unfinished but sick vibes
SENSACIONAL!
Very funky; loved the guitar and bass. Real good sampling material
The Sgt Pepper of disco/funk!
great
Очень хорошо!
All the middle-school feels.
Ziemlich lässige Mukke
Disco-dancing down the street like a freeak
Nile Rodgers and crew doing what they do best! Make bootys shake!!!
Disco increíble. Simplemente genial
Rogers and Edwards respective guitar and bass lines are fantastic.
Another influential classic
Hot stuff
Great album. Lots of songs to dance to. Fantastic guitar and instrumental.
Today's album is, "C'est Chic" (1978) by Chic. Here is what I want to say. Bernard Edwards as a bassist is upper echelon. Nile Rogers as a guitarist is upper echelon. AND ALSO...they are both upper echelon as writers and producers. AND AND ALSO...Nile went on to prove himself one of the greatest and most successful writers and producers ever. The rest of the production on this album? Superb. Vocals, all around? Sublime. (Shout out, Luther Vandross, rip) The arrangements and the larger band? Stellar. And the album is a perfect little piece of disco elegance and sophistication. Five Stars.
Insanely good, so many classics
Much like one can play seven degrees of separation with Kevin Bacon, the iconic guitar riffs of Nile Rodgers will always be seven degrees of separation from your favorite sample. Disco for the ages.
iconic disco greatness
I recognized the songs, and no idea where from
I had no idea I knew these songs… and some are used as samples by well known rappers!
Let’s get funky.
classic. sampled so many times
Nice. Soul and funk with some strong disco tendencies.
Yeah, Baby, yeah.
Loved it!
disco classic
I’m realizing that I’ve only given five star ratings to albums with which I’m already familiar. And while I know “Le Chic,” this album was otherwise new to me. I loved it. And I’m ready to trade in Daft Punk.
What a great record! I've always liked Le Freak but I had no idea how much I'd enjoy the rest of these songs. I think I'm a bigger fan of disco / funk than I ever realized. Another funky 5 star album in the books.
It's a fantastic album; I love the disco vibes.
Great stuff! I love Chic and Nile Rodgers and have seen them live twice. Great guitar work, excellent bass lines, love it
Brilliant blast from the past
I didn't love every song but those that I did were incredible!
Every single song Bangers all along No bad one in the batch This album such a catch Sweaty, swinging dancing Lovely loving romancing A full 5 star for me Glorious disco glee
An absolute stonking powerhouse of a record. Wall-to-wall funk, amazing musicianship, great production, just great. Favourite tracks: Chic Cheer (which I sadly only previously knew from Fatman Scoop's Be Faithful), Le Freak, Savoir Faire, I Want Your Love, At Last I Am Free, (Funny) Bone.
Not every track is great but still great, and amazing playing.
Sheer class. Anything that Nile Rogers is involved with has the midas touch. Superb
Disco at it's very finest. A while since I listened right through and even longer since I danced to it. Doesn't pretend to be anything it isn't. Just banging dance music. Rhythms hardwired into brains of people who have never heard it.
Performances are off the charts on this one.
before listening i honestly expected to hate this but it turned out to be really great
Cest chic
I obviously loved this. Thanks Chic. 4.5/5
10/10 album art C'est Chic endures because of its production and performances.
this really absolutely blew me away
4.7 - Yeah this was just great. No fluff and just really a tight album. Big tunes as well.
You can hear the influence this album has had on other artists.
This was the first album I purchased, I think I used money from my 12th birthday gifts.
70s groovin!
I really like this
Probably one of the best albums of a generation. Disco worms
I loved this. It was funky, groovy, and so joyful! Favourite track: I Want Your Love
Disco classic
i love this album nike rodger’s u are my hero
This is what you want to put on at a house party!
Love this album.
Hermoso disco. Derrama funk. Las voces impecables como también los músicos.
I love the bass tone of the first tune Chic Cheer (Osama ;). Awesome grooves and just feels good all around.
First listen. Oh I can tell I'm gonna like this when Chic Cher hit. Oh so THATS where that song came from??? That 15 second snippet "AwwwWW FREAK OUT!" THAT WAS IN EVERY COMEDY MOVIE ANFLD TRAILER IN THE 2000s?!? And it's 5 and A HALF minutes long???? Thank god the whole song is not just that snippet like Daft Punks Around the World is just "around the wOOorld". Really loving this album 3 songs in. SO FUNKY
Tanta roba
The grooviest of all time! Love me some Nile & Bernard. Timeless!
Classic Chic album. I like it just as much as Risque and an easy 5 stars.
C'est Chic, unique.
Очень мелодичная, ритмичная музыка. Сочные бас-партии, вкусная гитара. Яркий представитель жанра диско/R&B.
Un poco de todo. Me encantó.
This album fucking rules! The disco with the r&b added into really made for some catchy and entertaining songs. Bring this type of music back! 4.6 stars
So silky smooth.
Perfection.
Nile Rogers is the GOOOOAOTTTOTTOAOOT
I think Chic might be one of the coolest bands that ever existed. The bass lines written for every one of their tracks is simply perfect and getting bodies moving. The guitar playing compliments the funk of the bass excellently. The vocals don’t say all that much, but they don’t need to when the music says it all for them. This is frankly as good as music can get, in my own little stinky opinion.
Nice
Wonderful.
So funky. So good. That rhythm guitar is famous and those baselines make it impossible not to dance.
Filed under "albums that are just insanely fun".
Properly funky funk
a ROCK SOLID classic disco album. couldn’t ask for anything more
great soul/disk album that has many standout songs like le freak, and I want your love
Great bass lines!
💖 chic cheer 🗣️ 9️⃣
Unbelievable. A tight, shiny masterpiece. When session players make a chance and go Gonzo...
I’ve listened to this twice already. This album is such a fun vibe. The bass line is insane. How did I know about this?! It’s so funky
The rhythm section is so tight, and the bass parts especially are so good.
groovy tunes really good music 5/5
DISCO SUCKS! Just kidding. This shit fucks. Literally! You can’t watch a single tv show, movie or anything about the 70’s without a snippet off of this record. Everyone knows Le Freak of course but this is the soundtrack to cocaine fueled nightclub shenanigans, late night drives, chill nights with your boo, really anything that you want to capture a feeling that makes you feel GOOD. The music itself makes you want to boogie. Funky as fuck and will make your day rule. Nile Rogers can do no wrong and the history of the band is so cool. Each track has its own theme, its own sound, its own FEELING. Savoir Faire sounds like how it feels waking up with your new babe after a night out partying and having coffee in bed. The vibes on each song are so distinct and unique but the tracks all lead into the next one perfectly. If you need some fun tunes for a party this one’s a great start, makes you wanna get all freaky deaky. This record has gorgeous string and horn compositions and incredible vocalizations that were defined by this era. The fact that Rogers was hugely influenced by Brian Eno is also important because of the crossover influences of the time period. Honestly I wish this record was longer because it takes a hold of you and it’s just so CHILL. The track “At Last I am Free” isn’t a disco track but a perfect slow jam that is so beautiful I was surprised to be so moved. Listening to this album will put you in a better mood, I can guarantee.
Hell yes
A set of absolute bangers, immaculately performed and produced. Nile Rodgers' guitar and Bernard Edwards' bass particularly stand and there's enough variety in the style of songs to keep it interestjng
Glad I discovered this album, it feels representative of disco! I wonder if there will be more disco albums chosen or if none compare?
oOOh yeah I'm dancing
I was aware of Nile as a guitar player but never really listened to anything. Obviously have heard le freak and I really dig the rest. I’ve listened to this twice now, really groovy stuff
Classic
Played out and fairly sick of CHIC in general, but there's no denying some of these tunes. glorious stuff
Chic don’t flop
Lyrics: The lyrics on "C'est Chic" are primarily concerned with love, celebration, and the joy of life. Tracks like "Le Freak" and "I Want Your Love" are undeniably catchy, employing simple yet effective wordplay and repetition. However, Chic occasionally delves deeper, as in "Savoir Faire," where they explore themes of self-confidence and resilience. Notably, the record avoids excessive sentimentality, keeping the tone light and playful throughout. Music: The driving force behind "C'est Chic" is its music, a masterclass in crafting grooves that stay with you long after the needle lifts. Nile Rodgers' instantly recognizable rhythm guitar lays the foundation, complemented by Bernard Edwards' thunderous bass lines and Tony Thompson's crisp drumming. The arrangements incorporate elements of pop, funk, and jazz, adding depth and sophistication to the sound. The album also features the iconic "Chic strings," lush arrangements that add a touch of elegance and emotional resonance. Production: The production on "C'est Chic" is crisp and clean, emphasizing the clarity of each instrument. Rodgers' legendary production skills shine through, creating a space where every element contributes to the overall groove. The use of reverb and other effects is subtle, ensuring the music remains focused and danceable. Themes: While primarily a celebratory album, "C'est Chic" subtly explores themes beyond just dancing. "Savoir Faire" and "Sometimes You Win" offer messages of self-belief and perseverance. Even in the more playful tracks, there's a sense of sophistication and an underlying coolness that sets them apart from typical disco fare. Influence: "C'est Chic" became a landmark record, influencing countless artists across genres. Its infectious rhythm, tight songwriting, and innovative production laid the groundwork for the development of dance music in the decades to come. From artists like Madonna and Daft Punk to modern funk and dance music, the album's impact continues to be felt today. Pros: Unbeatable grooves: The music is instantly catchy and undeniably danceable. Sophisticated songwriting: The lyrics are clever, playful, and occasionally delve deeper, avoiding cliché. Impeccable production: The album sounds clean, crisp, and expertly mixed. Enduring influence: The record continues to inspire artists and shape the soundscape of dance music. Versatility: "C'est Chic" appeals to a broad audience seeking both a good time and musically sophisticated listening experience. Cons: Repetitive lyricism: While catchy, some lyrics can be seen as simple or repetitive. Limited thematic scope: Compared to other artists, Chic's thematic focus can appear narrower. Genre-specific appeal: While influential, the album's disco sound might not resonate with all listeners. Overall: "C'est Chic" is a timeless classic, a testament to Chic's ability to merge infectious grooves with sophisticated songwriting and production. It's a dance floor essential, yet sophisticated enough to be appreciated for its musical brilliance. While minor limitations exist in its lyrical simplicity and thematic scope, its strengths far outweigh them. "C'est Chic" remains a groundbreaking and influential album that continues to resonate with listeners generations after its release.
I never thought I would like disco
Fun funky album that makes you want to dance
Excellent album. "I want your love" is an absolutely fantastic song. Very funky but also sort of cerebral. I would definitely listen to this again and will probably own it eventually.
So fun!
Amazing!
elegant funk
Svine fed oplevelse!
I understand why disco was popular
There is no band like CHIC. C’est Chic will forever be one of the most iconic albums. The original straight outta disco. Fav songs: Le Freak & Sometimes you win.
A defining standard for disco. Excellent
Me gusto mucho!
Bangin. Nile Rogers created a new guitar vocabulary and the groove matched. Funky as hell and impossible to sit still to.
Great album
Easy five stars here. Anyone who can should watch the 3-part BBC series Disco, Sound of Revolution which has some truly amazing interviews and footage, with Nicky Siano as a breakout star. The instrumental prowess on this album is mind-blowing.
Sou suspeito pra falar, pq curto muito o som dos anos 80
Uma mistura muito boa de algo comercial e ainda sim rico, top!
Grooves & vibes
Disco fever. Classic.
Proper Disco Staple
NAO TERMINEI DE OUVIR NO DIA CERTO PQ FUI VER FILME MAS MUITO BOMMMM vou ouvir mais vezes com certeza
Classic 🕺
I immediately am ready to purchase the vinyl so I can have this playing every time I need an energy boost
Truly a great album from start to finish. Fantastic production, bass and guitar - possibly the quintessential disco album. If this doesn't get your body movin', you might need to see a doctor...
Gotta get my Gangsta boogie on.
If you know me you know I love a good lil funky groove. This album was such a great way to start my Friday morning. It’s the perfect balance between being repetitive enough to be catchy and interesting enough to keep you engaged. Music like this just makes ya feel good! Clearly, I need more funk and disco in my life.
Oh my god, it's the funky shit!
Super fun… positive vibes… love it. 5 of 5
Fantastic album, imitated by many but never bettered. The epitome of 70's cool.
Not bad for disco
A fun, funky time. Opening number I recognized, Fatman scoop must have sampled it, cool! Favourite tracks: le freak (duh!), happy man, I want your love, sometimes you win… pretty much all the songs with vocals. Least favourite track: at least I am free. The slow ballad is less of a vibe, but this was still an ear worm
Full of absolute bangers, start to finish. God I love me some disco! It was also surprisingly versatile - tracks like Savoir Faire and At Last I Am Free felt like such lush melancholy departures from the fun and upbeat stuff. This is for sure going into a regular rotation (and a bunch of tracks went onto my disco playlist I use when I clean the house, Scrub-a-dub Disco).
Good! Funky, Chic, very fun
Oldie and a groovin blast
A few weeks ago at work, I needed something to listen to, so I picked this off the list, but before that, I'd never intentionally listened to Chic (I'm sure a lot of people have heard "Le Freak" and "Good Times" to some degree in their lives). This album is a lot of fun, and I found myself nodding along to the beat with every song. Nile Rodgers' guitar playing is fantastic, Tony Thompson's drumming is clean and precise, and Bernard Edwards' bass playing is funky and fun. Disco is not something I gravitate towards, but this album was a treat for the ears. I loved the tracks that featured strings, and the bells on "I Want Your Love" were great too. Chic is so talented and influential, and this album definitely deserves its place on this list. I just learned that Nile Rodgers has an autobiography, and that's definitely going on my list of books to read.
Ik kende wat nummers hiervan, nooit het hele album gehoord! Gewdig album! Kan niks anders doen dan 5 sterren geven!
Liked it. Fun dancey vibes. Meaghan was about it too and knew one or two of the hits.
Muito bom!
5 stars for I Want Your Love and At Last I Am Free on their own. Contains plenty other intricately constructed widdly wee widdly woo. Stonewall classic
This one is very city pop, definitely a vibe. I would absolutely listen to this again
Cool funky album, recognized a few songs
super funky wunky
funky
I just saw Nile Rodgers and Chic live so naturally I love this music.
SO FUNKY SO FUN
Incredibly based
Le GROOVE man il était bon
I already own this, and it is exquisite. Both the guitar and bass wriggle about like they're trying to escape the songs and join in the party. Chic are just incredible.
Really liked the album
LOVE IT
Le freak is an ear worm of course. And let’s be honest Nile has milked the same style of guitar playing since at least this album. But it works. And Bernie’s bubbling bouncy bass is a global treasure. For me not an album to sit and listen to. It’s an album to dance to.
Enjoyable album to play again and again, plus if you use a streaming service, the algorithm will go on to provide an endless stream of groove based on this, as a tasteful follow-up. This albums is the kind of music that A) DJ Sarcastic Elbows plays at Cotton Mouth records B) cool seduction music to play in sunken lounges beside a lava lamp c) fun groovig beats to drive to. put youy in a GOOD mood. The warmth of a 70s hifi ... Only funky. 5
If you are following my reviews, you will note that I tend to like my music and bit raw and noisy, not too polished. But all that goes out the window with Chic, here at the height of their powers. I always keep a couple of Chic singles in my DJ crates, because they are guaranteed floor fillers. I was playing a party just last weekend, where there was a break for speeches and cutting the cake. I played Le Freak to get people back on the dance floor after the interruption. And it worked, because it is just impossible to resist. I confess that I've never listened to this whole album before, and it is a dead-set winner all the way through. It's disco, but funkier than a lot of disco. Check out the break in I Want Your Love at 4.30; it's 8 bars of Bernard Edwards, Nile Rogers and Tony Thompson in the pocket, with nothing else. And they are deep in the pocket, as for the whole album. Vocals by Alfa Anderson, Luci Martin, Luther Vandross and David Lasley are exceptional. The orchestrations are classy and compelling. The whole album is classy, cool, smooth and funky, almost irresistible on the dance floor. Daryl Easlee, reviewing for the BBC, says "C'est Chic isn't even Chic's best album (that was their next one, Risqué) but it is a bright, shining example of what mass-produced, intelligent dance music should be. Thirty-two years old at the time of writing, it remains irresistible." Le Freak is the monster single (the biggest selling single of all time on the Atlantic label, apparently), but you could spin any track from this record and people would dance, and that is awesome. Five stars.
Fantastic disco album from start to finish. Easily a 5/5. Favorite Tracks: Happy Man, Le Freak, Sometimes You Win, I Want Your Love.
Second 5* given. This album is funky front to back. Loved it.
This one was surprisingly bussin'
Absolute funky origins. Love the bass, love the musicianship through all the album. Simply amazing and should be always rated 5 stars except if there's more stars to give.
Groovy
With the disco boom flourishing, CHIC waste little to no time planting their flag in the ground with these all killer, no filler platform boot sweeping, body twirling bangers aided by gentle swoons on the side. Opulence was the meal of the day and the ever reliable hitmaker duo of Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers come through in spades, delivering classics that would surely outlast any backlash, any demolition night and any other living entity. Aw, freak out!
Super-fly and funky fresh
Nile & Bernard were badasses. I’m not a disco fan, but I’ll always listen to Chic!!
Rad
Riding the shimmering cosmic groove on a sea of funk. Disco perfection.
This is such a fun album. I didn’t realize how much of the music I grew up with used samples from C’est Chic. I don’t really know what I was expecting walking in, but I loved how varied the songs were. I think I figured it’d be very lyrical and vocal, but was surprised to find instrumental tracks. Even vocal heavy songs give a lot of room for instrumental expression.
Simple, deceptively easy. Great record.
Classic Jam!!
This album has so many bangers that it’s a shame everyone only puts Le Freak on repeat.
9/10 - really loved this there’s some really great disco stuff here
Disco tunes that got me a agroovin :)
Timeless album. It is purely filled with intimacy, love, happiness and tremendous groove. Whether you want to dance or make love - just pick this record and play it loud.
Ultimate party album to keep things moving in the right direction. Don't even mind some of the long track run times
Really cool. Made me stand up and dance on several occasions. Actually made me bake as well.
Disco funk purity!
GOD BLESS THIS IS FUNKY
Funky
Magic, bliss and loads of groove! Highlights: Le Freak, Savoir Faire, I Want Your Love, At Last I Am Free
Big groove, also most of these song were remixed in disco house songs and I love it. 4.5 / 5
C’est Chic was an absolute vibe, whole album is great. Favorite might be Happy Man.
Wauw Tres Chic
CHIC DEMAIS
Ah, delightful!
So much fun! So much dancing! Give me more!!
I love being able to identify a band by its bass player. This is good good fun. Danceable and soulful and a punch of nostalgia. Just great.
This has been a favorite of mine for a very, very long time. Still, it’s illuminating to listen to it with fresh ears today from start to finish. They didn’t have to ask for the favor in Chic Cheer: “If you don’t mind, would ya, please? Get up off of your seat and repeat Chic Chic Chic Chic Chic Chic…” I’m way ahead of you. When I put this on the headphones I floated away on disco clouds powered by groovy guitars, cool bass lines, glittering pianos and gorgeous vocal harmonies. C’est Chic is perfection. I could stay here all week.
Chic struck gold with their 2nd record. So groovy and funky and a great representation of the way music was moving at the time. Right at the peak of Disco but the record still has a lot of R&B and Funk, so much so that the genre title of disco seems to be a product of the year it was released. The whole record really makes you want to get up and dance along and at no point does it ever drag. Such a fun record. Favorite Track: Le Freak, I Want Your Love Least Favorite Track: Savoir Faire
meh
Was gonna go 4.5 and then listened to 'I Want Your Love' again in my car at top volume on my way to work. 5
A classic disco record
Amazing
this was my introduction to chic — i found it really fun! lots of great instrumentation, i didn’t really focus on the lyrics so i don’t know what those say.
amazing
Okay. So, apparently everything Nile Rodgers touches turns to gold. That guitar sound! Wow.
Had no idea this album was the origin of the disco anthem Le Freak. Some very strong guitar rhythm.
